Gancho recappers and fans: what about this time change?

Hi all,

First, let me apologize for not keeping up with your show. I am just overwhelmed in my real life, and by how HUGE Caray, Caray has become. I see you've all been doing well without me, though, paddling your own canoe. Thanks, so many thanks, to you great recappers. Sounds like this show is a hoot.

Now, we have a big problem. Your show is moving to the afternoon. Why, I wonder? but then it's hard to watch at that time, so the fans may dwindle, AND, what about the new 7 pm show? What do you think we should do? One thing that occurs to me is that we could put one or the other of the shows on "quick and dirty" - have one or two recappers who plan to watch the show anyway post bi-weekly reviews.

It's your call. What do you want to do?

Right now I want to sulk, shout and have a tantrum. Yes, I too wondered about doing a bi-weekly, sort of like what you did with your first telenovela. But the new show is on at 8 pm and besides, I'm just so mad, I don't want to do it at all. Maybe someone else will feel differently.

Some of us are going to download Gancho and I can watch it in the afternoon and do my recaps. So we're going to stick with it, and our fans who can't watch will try and keep up with the recaps. WE LOVE THIS SHOW. IT'S OUR FAVORITE OF ALL THE 7 PMERS WE'VE RECAPPED. WE ARE SO MAAAAAAD!!!!! Okay, feel better now.

Sigh. Please add my fervent agreement with Judy's sentiments.
I will not be able to watch or tape Gancho now. I've watched the show from the beginning and am now totally invested. I can only say (again) how dissappointed I am with this most unwelcome time change. Of course, I will keep up with the wonderful recaps but it's still frustrating not to be able to fully participate by seeing the shows.

As I don't speak Spanish or have captions, I rely solely on the fabulous recappers who explain and clarify so eloquently. I'm taking my annoyance out on the new show so if no one is able or wants to recap, that's fine with me. I won't watch it then as I can't make it through with the recaps.

Thanks for keeping with this Judy. Appreciate your making the extra effort to adjust your schedule to keep your sparkling recaps coming. You and all of the other marvelous Gancho recappers are the best!

Diana

I'm pretty sure that the Gancho team will stick to recapping Gancho at it's new time slot. It's clever, upbeat and refreshing; besides we recappers are really on a roll with it as you can see by Dr. Testosterone's maraviguau recap. (Sorry Carlos, I couldn't resist.) I am SO IRRITATED about the time change because now some of our readers won't be able to watch the show anymore.

Maybe there are some potential recappers lurking in the wings who are interested in taking on the new 8:00 p.m. show? If there are now is the time to take the recapping leap.

I plan on pouting for pretty much the rest of the day, maybe joining Judy later in a tantrum. This show is such a treasure that I can't believe tha they are doing this. Clearly Univision appears to be way out of touch with it's gringoid adherents. For me it has little effect. I certainly plan to continue watching and recapping, but it's tragic that loyal fans like Diana, Deb, and Julia will be cut off from watching this show. I think that the new show looks promising, but I expect that a large number of we fans are going to be very critical of a show that replaces a jewel like un Gancho. What were they thinking?

Carlos

I had not been keeping up with Gancho, but just heard about this nuttiness and wanted to express my sympathies to the Ganchoites. This bites!

I'm upset, too. However, I plan to keep recapping Gancho, even with the time change. We're up to about episode 150 of 220, so it'd be a shame to stop now. And the show is great.

I will try to tape Gancho or find places to download it when possible, and of course will continue to read the recaps each day. The recappers for Gancho are fabulous and funny, much like the show itself.

I will give the new show a chance as it comes between the other two shows which I watch, so why change the channel? I only recognize one of the actors in the HQEDNS previews from my past year of novela watching (Lorena's sister in QE), so there may be some new comedic gems to discover, just like Gancho. :)

The idea of becoming a recapper for HQEDNS is tempting, but not sure if I have the time or skill to commit to such a task. I haven't even created a real identity yet! Lol!

I don't watch Gancho, but I'm peeved that the show that I do watch, ENDA, will be put in that time slot. That means it will air at 6:00 p.m. here in the CST. Boo, hoo!

See, this messes everyone up! Thank you everyone for your sympathies and shared angst and irritation.

I'm in houston when will this happen,, this is the first I have heard of this? I love this show, and I look forward to seeing it every night. Also what is the new time slot?

reb

Rebecca, unless something changes again (unlikely), starting this coming Monday, January 18th, Gancho will be on at 3:00 P.M. Eastern time. En Nombre Del Amor will switch to 7:00 P.M., and a new show, Hasta que El Dinero Nos Separe will be on at 8:00.

I'll still be recording and watching Gancho, but I plan to keep recapping ENDA in its new time slot. I also record Sortilegio to watch on weekends or whenever I get to it (I usually don't have time to watch it all and just FF to the highlights).

I will NOT give up Gancho; it is one of my very favorite shows EVER. So I really don't have time to watch another show and certainly not to recap it, though I'll record at least the first week or two and if it seems good and people like it I'll keep recording until some time when I have loads of free time to watch.

Reports from Mexico say that HQEDNS is good, so it would be nice if some people who plan to watch it anyway could do even quickie recaps and we could see if it catches on.

I am so annoyed at Univision right now.

Hi everyone! First let me say how sorry I am about Gancho's time being changed, and thank you so much for being willing to continue recapping. It's often been mentioned that the group of Gancho commenters is small and there are concerns that the group may become smaller because of the time change, but I'm sure that there are many more people like me lurking than you think. Due to my recapping duties on ENDA and a heavy work schedule, I'm usually two or three days behind watching Gancho and reading the recaps, so that makes it hard to comment. But I think all of your recaps are AMAZING, and I think Gancho is one of the best novelas I've seen, so thank you for hanging in there!

Hi guys, just checking in after a busy day. Thanks for the concern and support. Pasofino, sorry your favorite show was moved up an hour. That happened once before, I believe. But never have they moved up a show FOUR HOURS!!!!! I am still in shock. And angry as Hell. I will NOT watch the new show. Evah. I am that angry.

I think quick recaps would be good for Dinero. I'm a casual viewer of that show and while I don't put it in the same category as gancho they do have some good parts, their lead couple is really good and the actors have great chemistry. Their interactions made the show and the success of the novela us due to them.

But the rest of the cast drags the show for me, that's the difference with Gancho. Every single character in Un Gancho Al Corazón is delicious and they make you feel for them, you know all the actors are doing their best and they are having a blast with their scenes.

The way this show has been mantaining its quality is by rotating the airtime for the characteres and letting each of them have the time to shine and become endearing to the audience. You just end up loving them all and caring for them so you WANT to watch them.

The show is funny, witty, smart and sexy, what's not to like?

Hopefully those viewers who now can't watch the show at 3pm will find a way to find it online.

Meanwhile I'leave a little trailer for HQEDNS to see if anybody is interested in that show. When it airs. I really think Univision has made a mistake with those changes, HQEDNS could have had a better expectative and Gancho viewers would be happier had they not made that decision.

Jarocha

Jarocha, I just watched the trailer and I'll be watching this show. I feel like I'm selling out but it looks to be a charming show and I'm a sucker for Ranchera and Mariachi. Also, I find women in cervical collars oddly appealing. I'm guessing that once over her little snit , Judy will take a peek as well. Like me, I think she has a short attention span when it comes to anger and hurt.

Carlos

Carlos, dang it, I could just whip you because I know it's true. I get REALLY ANGRY, but then I can't maintain it. You already have me all figured out, don't you, amigo.

Judy, I know you wouldn't blame a child for what its parents do, nor would you blame a telenovela for what darn Univision does.

By the way, Kris is still super busy but she will hang in there for the change, so it's unanimous.

YAY! I'm so happy that we'll get to keep all of our fantastic recappers!

Jarocha

I'm not happy about it moving to daytime. This show has such humor in it and the recaps are a hoot! Except for the evil mistress, who I would like to see her slapped silly just one time, you really can cheer for the characters. Can someone just record the afternoon version and translate it later? My Spanish is lousy, which is why I started watching, anyway.

Carlos your recap was just what the doctor ordered. I can't stop laughing.Your recap reads like a novel.I am sorry you still love Connie,we all forgive you. All you re-capers, with no exception are just incredibly talented writers. The services performed for Univision is priceless. That is why it makes me so angry and also makes no sense, when without any thought or consideration for their viewers they yank a show from 7 pm and throw it into the 3 pm slot. What is so special about this new show that it can't wait till Gancho ends. Do they realize or care that they are going to loose a lot of viewers this way? This is unheard of and I am with you Judy,I am furious Grrrrr.

Hanna-Md

Thanks again y'all for the support.

BJM, one way or another, we will continue to recap Gancho. Several of us download it from other sources, others tivo it, and I, Neanderthal that I am, will arrange to be home at 3 pm to watch and write. We're happy you love the show as much as we do and we will continue to provide the recaps.

Hannan and BJM, we always love hearing from you and other viewers. Just to hear your take on things, so please chime in whenever, along with the rest of the gang.

I just want to add my name to list of those outraged about this change. While I think Uni has other novelas in the 3 pm slot that were probably prime time in Mexico or elsewhere, all of those started and stayed at 3 pm. I wonder if Uni even looked at the numbers b/c I thought Gancho was doing well? I'm also sorry that Diana and Deb can't watch any more. Booo Uni.

Debbie, Hanna, and BJM, thanks for your solidarity and thanks for joining us. Please don't be shy about joining in the conversations. We'll survive this schedule change but it certainly smarts right now.

Carlos

Yeah this time change seems pretty strange. I've only watched for a few years, but not sure if I remember any other show going from the evening to the afternoon.
Besides the regular evening Gancho viewers not being able to watch, I have to wonder how many of the normal afternoon watchers watch Gancho in the evening. Seems like it will be a little hard for regular afternooners to get into a story that is already over two thirds done.

Oh, and a warning for the Gancho viewers. Not sure how many people are familiar with the afternoon TNs. They are on over a 3 hour slot, usually 3, but sometimes only 2. A word of warning, it is possible that besides moving Gancho to the afternoon, in the future, they may start showing it for 2 hours instead of 1 hour. We'll want to keep a watch out for that as well. :)

Hannah-MD, if it's any consolation Monita did knock Coni's front teeth out once. Sometimes I like to recall that just to make myself happy, especially when Conster the Monster is torturing kiddies and the elderly.

Jeff, two hours? Ouch, we'll keep an eye out for that.

Thanks Jeff. 2 hrs.? The news just gets better'nd better.

Carlos

Another lurker checking in here. I'll stick with the novela after the time change. If some commenters leave maybe I will have to de-lurk and start contributing. I just emailed a contact I have at Univision and asked for an explanation. I'll let you know if I get an answer.
AmyK

Deb here. (Hi Debbie! I have found it rare over the years to be in any group where there is not at least one other Debra/Debbie/Deb!)

ITA with JudyB, Diana, Sylvia, Carlos, etc. I'm mad, frustrated, sad--every negative emotion! Why would they do this to us 2/3 of the way through the show, and how do they think they are going to pick up new vewers at the new time when the show is in its últimos meses? I have faithfully watched this show from Day 1 and rarely missed an episode. Waahhhh.....

Does anyone know how to get it online or some other way? We've tried and tried with our old VCR and are not able to ever record anything, so I know that's not an option.

Thank you recappers for all the wonderful, rich recaps, comments, memorably funny lines, and interesting vocabulary...oh, and your willingness to stick with us, your readers, in the much-disliked new time slot!

AmyK, good to hear from you. Actually we do still have quite a few positions open for commenters here, or should I say there? at Club Gancho. For me the reward is to see what kind of vigorous conversation I can kick off when I'm recapping (hope you caught my recap today), so the more opinions and comments, the merrier. I really will be interested to hear what your contact has to say. I think the decision was shear madness.

Carlos

Hey Deb, good to hear from you. I didn't realize that we have so many watching this delightful show. Judy told me that we do, but I didn't believe her. I think we can keep our Debs and Debbies straight. Heck we can even take on a few anons. As I told AmyK, we have lots of positions open for commenters and each will be treated with the love and affection he/she deserves.

I checked next Mon.'s menu on DirecTV and... sipis, there at 2:00pm CST was... un Gancho al Corazón. My TIVO has already taken the initiative to set it for recording, so last night was my last prime time recap.

Carlos

Carlos.. not saying it will be going to 2 hours, but it might at some time. I think the odds of that happening may be high. Since they are moving it, I would think part of the reason would be to finish it off, so they might start running 2 hours sometime to finish it off sooner. Maybe... Man, that will would be taxing. Watching 2 hours of Gancho and 3 hours in the evening. ;)

Oops, last post was by JeffMN.

I'm not really following Un Gancho or En Nombre del Amor too much but I do feel your pain with the time schedule changes. I wonder why Univision didn't just start "Hasta Dinero" in the afternoons instead of these drastic primetime schedule changes? Now I can't even occasionally check in with either one - Un Gancho will be airing opposite "Amor Real" in the afternoons (AR will be on Telefutura) and En Nombre will be opposite my local news/weather/sports.

FYI: Tormenta en el Paraiso is currently airing for 2 hours on Univision afternoons. When Un Gancho joins the afternoon line-up, I suppose Tormenta will go down to 1 hour and Un Gancho will be plugged into the hour between Tormenta and El Gordo y La Flaca.

Jody :)

Hi Jody, I hadn't realized Gancho will be against Amor Real. That bums me out mightily. I have never seen Amor Real in its entirety, only the edited version on DVD. Now I'm even MORE irritated. Do you know when Amor Real begins?
