Sortilegio, Tuesday, January 5--Ep #60: It's a boy!

Out in the waiting area, the family are all thrilled about the baby. Except for Bruno, as Fernando mutters under his breath. Felipa steps in and says that Bruno carried MJ because she couldn't walk. Too bad she didn't see WHY that ended up happening in the first place.

Alejandro and MaryJo are still all smoochy face and Hernán has to bust it up so MJ can get some rest, Pippi braids and all.

Paula goes to brag about the baby to Roberto, how he's 3k (6-ish pounds), so he's gonna be huge and he's gonna be the prettiest baby and she's the prettiest auntie or at least the happiest one cause she's just so happy. She's bouncing around on his bed and he's kind of groaning. Paula thinks being a parent must be sooooo super cool. Roberto supposes so. Paula wants him to hurry up and get better already.

Pedro gets a happy reception from the crew at the mercado. Chucho is shaking a rattle, for some reason. Pedro's just happy he finally got a boy, sort of. Meche bitches about Bruno, but then Pedro has to stick up for him. Gabriel grumbles about it. Chucho wants to quit talking about Bruno already. And what are they naming boy wonder? Who knows. Pedro thinks he'll be a mini-Alex.

At Lombardo Co, Mari congratulates Alex, who probably shouldn't be at work since all he can think about is the baby. He suddenly remembers he forgot to buy anything, so he calls Vicky. She tells him that MJ already took care of buying all the baby stuff (did he miss the part where she's been spending a lot of time sitting on that bench folding baby clothes?). Now he's bugging Fernando about babies, but Fer doesn't think he's getting married, ever. Um, yeah, and he's dating your mom, so QTH is that question about? Fer leaves and Alex calls Mari and tells her to get some big shot jeweler in to see him today. Well, diamonds are a girl's best friend, but then again Maura and Bruno dropped down a well are forever. Just saying, Alex, consider the possibilities.

Ulises is looking for Sandra, still. He's asking a woman about her and describes her as a bleached-blonde tramp. Nah, he says "estilo punk" (as in, she dresses punk, which I disagree with, "estilo trampy" would have been more accurate). The woman says she had a bad turn and they had to drag her into a hospital right over there.

Maura gets off the phone with Mari and is all upset that the baby has been born. "And to think! He could have been mine." She's still in love with Alex, blah, blah, blah. Lisette says there's nothing to be done, she did what she could and now she just needs to build a bridge and get over it.

Ulises asks at the hospital, and lady at the desk says they do happen to have a bleached blonde, punky, trampy druggie, but they didn't know her name. Now a doctor comes over and tells him she's had an overdose and is unconscious.

Ulises passes on the news to Elena. Elena tells her husband. He asks to speak to the doctor, so phones are passed over. The stepdad tells the doc that he's sending over an ambulance. The doctor doesn't really like it, but he'll do it. Elena's going to go sign off on it, as a family member, and stepdad tells Ulises not to leave Sandra's side for a moment. As stepdad puts it to Elena when she asks "what happened?", "she could have a heart attack or slip into a coma and it's all your fault." Nice guy. I can see why she married him. Elena blames him for not taking time off for them to go to Madrid and collect her. He tells her that if Sandra dies, they can forget the clinic and the money. He screams at her to get the ambulance, a doctor, and a nurse, and go collect their little overdosed meal ticket.

In the hospital, Paula fusses with MJ's covers and a nurse brings the baby in, but just for 20 minutes. Longer than that and they get overdone and kind of chewy. MJ coos at the baby about his little tiny hands and she'll always be his mommy and his eyes are so pretty. Alex comes in with a tiny little bouquet of flowers. Now he coos that the baby's so handsome. MJ's not going to feed the kid until later, cause that's what they told her to do. Alex thanks her and she thanks him and then Alex takes the handoff. The baby fusses. MJ finds her present in the bouquet. It looks like a big fat crystal on a chain, but I can't really see it. MJ says they've really got to start calling the baby by his name--Antonio, like they'd talked about before. The baby seems to approve. I mean, sorry, Antonio 2.0 seems to approve.

Elena signs the paperwork at the DF hospital, and the credit card receipt. The doc gripes some more about the danger in moving Sandra. She's wheeled out and Ulises tries to talk to her, but she's out cold.

Pedro and Chucho drink to Pedro's first grandchild. Chucho says a grandchild is always a blessing. The cops come in looking for Pedro, but Chucho says "I'm Pedro." The cop says he's accused of storing and distributing pirated goods. Pedro steps up and says he's really Pedro. No, I'm Pedro!

They get Sandra back to stepdaddy's clinic and the doctor who rode with them says they gave Sandra some benzos and she's out again. Stepdaddy huffs.

Pedro gets cuffed and perp walked out to the cop car. Pedro begs Chucho not to tell anyone, but Chucho's like "no way, dude!" Chucho gripes at the cops.

Gabriel is amazed to her that Pedro was into that stuff. Meche and Chucho gripe at Gabriel for thinking bad things about Pedro. Gabriel doesn't know how they're supposed to help him and keep it a secret at the same time. Meche says if his daughter finds out, her milk will dry up, so that's why she can't know. Chucho begs San Quilmas Petateo for illumination.

Stepdaddy kicks everyone out of Sandra's room at the clinic. He whispers in Sandra's ear "stupid girl, you're going to cause my downfall."

Ulises, Elena, and stepdaddy go over how Ulises screwed up this whole thing. Stepdaddy accuses Ulises of being the one responsible for not stopping Sandra from getting into drugs in the first place. Then he gripes at Elena for not being specific enough with him about what was going on with Sandra. He calls her stupid and a bird brain. He says that Sandra is in a coma and they can't let grandpa know or they'll lose everything. He'll do what he can, but if she's not out of the coma in 2 months, she'll go into brain death. He's not God, after all. He kicks them out of his office.

Ulises tells Elena that he does feel responsible. She dittoes. They go over the details of Elena's second, er, marriage. It was fake, but grandpa doesn't know that and Ulises better not be thinking of blackmailing her with it. But he has other plans. He wonders how much longer the old guy will live. Elena estimates a couple of months. Ulises proposes they use MaryJo. Elena laughs, she doesn't think MJ would agree to pass for Sandra. Ulises thinks it's worth it to look into, but Elena is concerned that this would mean telling her husband the truth. Ulises leaves and says it's her decision.

Chucho comes to visit Pedro in jail. Pedro looks like he's doing ok. He says he's going to be sent to Saqui. He wants confirmation that MJ doesn't know. Pedro says he did make a mistake that he ought to pay for, but that doesn't mean MJ should pay. They guys are convinced that Bruno had something to do with this. Pedro repeats Bruno's threat that if MJ didn't vote Bruno for Prez, Bruno would get Pedro thrown in jail. That's Bruno for you, keeping his campaign promises. Pedro tells Chucho to lie if the girls ask and tell them that Pedro is out on a trip to buy merchandise for the store. Chucho thinks he can't keep that up for long, so Pedro tells him to wait a while and then tell everyone he's dead. Ay, that Pedro, again with the faking deaths. Chucho cries.

MJ, Alex, and little Tony come home. Everyone's out to welcome the baby and they all clap. Alex carries mama and baby up the stairs, keeping up a steady stream of baby talk to Tony2 the whole time. In the bedroom, there are a ton of balloons. Felipa lectures Cuco about staying out of the baby's bedroom. Cuco growls and Felipa says she'll have to get him a girlfriend. The baby gets cooed over. MJ thanks them for the decorations. Then she thanks Alex for being such a studly princely man. MJ asks about Pedro, but Paula assumes he's at work. They all argue over who's going to keep the balloons. They look at presents. Alex bought MJ a fancy watch so she doesn't feed the baby late. Alex, don't make me smack you. Mr. 5ft believes the baby needs to be LoJacked. He's convinced Bruno will try to kidnap the baby at some point. However, I believe Bruno wouldn't want to touch his little nephew with a ten foot pole, so he'd have to have someone else do the actual taking care of the kid. Mr. 5ft believes it wouldn't take a lot of convincing and Bruno could get Katia to do it, somehow. And if not her, then maybe not-dead-grandma Elena could do it. I think Mr. 5ft is too paranoid, but then again, kidnapping is a TN staple, so we'll see.

At the mercado, Meche and Chucho argue about Chucho lying to everyone. Gabriel thinks they should get some money together and get Pedro a good lawyer. Chucho says they really don't have any money. He hassles a customer "are you gonna buy that or not?" Then he decides he needs a beer to deal with the stress. Meche and Gabriel both agree that they're so wishy-washy that they certainly can't let Pedro down, but they also can't go against Chucho cause he's been so nice to them. Meche wrinkles her forehead while Gabriel breathes through his mouth. Spineless twerps.

Alex likes hanging out with MJ and the baby during feeding time. PSA about breast feeding. It's good for the baby's immune system. And if you breast feed your baby William Levy will come over and tell you how beautiful you are and spout poetry at you. Or maybe I misunderstood that part.

Vicky talks to Fer about how happy she is to have a baby in the house again. But it makes her think that Fer has a right to a "family"--wife, kids. Fer says he'd rather have her. She's the love of his life and he's not giving her up for anything. Alex busts them smooching and coughs really loudly. He tells them that he and MJ want them to be the godparents. They're both thrilled. They'll have the baptism in a couple of months.

Sandra is still out, no reaction. Elena and Ulises are worried. Ulises tries to talk to her. Elena calls her stupid, but sadly.

Paula coos over Tiny Tony and his little hands and little mouth. She just wants to eat him all up. MJ is wondering where Pedro is. Paula says she'll go check on him when she gets out of school. And BTW, she adds, you made a fabulously good looking baby--of course, it doesn't hurt that you've got a hunky husband…so why can't God send me one too, handsome and rich? Har, har. Paula sees Cuco hiding under the armoire right out side the door, whining because he's been exiled.

Ulises thinks that MJ is such a kind, decent person that if Elena just explains the situation, she'd be glad to help out. Elena thinks stepdaddy will get Sandra out of this coma. Ulises is going back to Merida for now. Elena tells him not to talk to MJ about anything. He says he won't.

Chucho tries to bring Pedro some tamales, but they don't want to let him in because visiting hours were in the morning. He gives the tamales to the guard and tells him to give them to Pedro and don't eat any…ok, well maybe one or two, but that's it. The guard takes a good look at the tamales.

Arturo walks Paula to school and says he'll see her back at the car after classes, since it's too difficult to park right out front. Gabriel comes up and Paula asks what's up with her dad. Gabriel tells her that he's in jail for something that happened in Saqui and doesn't want Alex or MaryJo to know about it.

Fernando tells Alex that Katia has now decided that she's depressed and wants to come back home, but she's not going to hook up with Bruno. Paula calls Alex and interrupts the conversation. She tells him Pedro has been detained, but she's not sure why. She tells him that Bruno had threatened MJ with this, but MJ didn't tell him because she thought Bruno was lying. Alex does what he always does and says he'll take care of it. He gets off the phone, then calls Mari and tells her to get Lic. Quinones and tell him they've got to go down to the police station. Alex is pissed that this is happening now and that Bruno made good on his threat. Fer tells him not to tell MJ and to make something up about why Pedro hasn't been to see his grandchild.

Back at the house, Paula gets out of the car, jumps over a puddle, and tries to beat the smack out of Bruno. She yells at him about her dad being in jail and smacks him. He throws her down and insists he doesn't know what she's talking about. Paula cries and Arturo tries to comfort her. Felipa saw and heard the whole thing.

Bruno goes running to mommy to tell her that mean girl Paula is accusing him of having her father thrown into jail. Vicky sighs.

Arturo tells Felipa about Gabriel showing up as Paula was on her way in to school and telling her what was going on. Felipa doubts it, but Arturo reminds her that Bruno's an ass. He tells her that Alex already knows and is surely going to take care of it.

Lic. Q tells Alex that Rufino named Pedro as an accomplice and he's going to be transported to Saqui. If he's convicted he could get anywhere from 6 months to 5 years. Of course, Q says if there aren't any witnesses or evidence, they could get Pedro out of this jam. They bend down and go through some weird little archway.

Pedro thanks Lic. Q and Alex, but he's not going to deny his actions. Q says Rufino's a slime and if Pedro just says he didn't do it, they'll believe him. Pedro has no intention of doing that.

Bruno cries to Mommy some more about that tacky family, how can she stand them, with the drunken criminal dad, and the daughter who resorted to trickery to snag Alex, and the other one ran some guy over. "Okay, fine," says Vic, "let's say that's all true. What about you? You exposed me to public ridicule!" Bruno says he had a right to, to get what was owed him. Vicky says there are a lot of dark dealings in his behavior and she's not going to start naming them all now. However, she does want to ask him, again, what he was doing in DR? He insists he went to find the judge so the judge could clear him of having been the one who got married to MJ. "Convenient, then, that the poor man disappeared." Bruno now says maybe Alex killed him. But why? Vicky actually dares ask him if he wasn't the one who killed the judge. Bruno just sticks out his jaw and doesn't answer.

MJ reports to Alex that the baby has been fed, changed, and is ready for bed. Alex slips his rosary in under the blankets. MJ says they've got to go to bed too, cause the kid's gonna want to eat in another 3 hours. I miss some banter as we cross into the next hour. They're still going with the "I love you, I love you more, you're so wonderful," etc. MJ says she really digs his bod and his smile, but she likes his soul best. Screw that, you can't put his soul on a calendar.

Tomorrow: Alex says the only way to deal with Bruno is to kill him; Ulises proposes that MJ get the inheritance in place of Sandra; Hernán tells Roberto it's time for him to talk to the cops; Pedro declares himself guilty when he gets to Saqui; Vicky tells Bruno that he's the son of the devil and Bruno brings up MJ's twin; Ulises proposes to Maura that they blackmail someone.

I'm glad the story's still moving at a decent pace. And that Gabriel located his spine.

Thanks 5ft another wonderful recap, and a great assist from Mr. 5ft. about the possibility of kidnapping baby Antonio.

Useless that scum is so not trustworthy, yeah he's going to convince MJ to act as her twin so Elena and her nasty Dr. of a husband can get the grandfather's money.

Yeah Useless just how will you go about doing that, Hey MJ how about acting as your twin for a couple of months to fool Sandra's grandfather.

He's going to die anyway give or take maybe six months or less. The same MJ who really didn't want to go along with Bruno and his harebrained scheme.

Vicki finally ask Bruno about the judge and what happened to him. I think she knows he's lying. She finally now accepted that he's the devil's incarnate.

The previews for tomorrow Useless is telling Maura about Sandra's condition.I think Maura will use this as a opportunity to separate MJ and Alex.

Alex telling El Mad Dog Bruno that they would be better off if he was killed.

Vicki telling her devil's spawn that his father isn't Antonio but Beezlebub himself aka Satan.

Bruno then ask Vicki about MJ's twin this not good folks not good at all.

Since we have team Mexitrash.

I think we should have a new club title the Liar's Club.

President Pedro, Vice-President Vicki, secretary Chucho regular worker Ferdumbo.Honorary membership Alex.

Thank you for the recap, 5ft. Mr. 5ft, I really hope the baby does not get kidnapped. I always want to stop watching when a plot that involves something bad happening to babies are added to telenov stories. It's just upsetting.

It was funny when Alex did not want Vicky to kiss him (as her way of thanking him after he told them they wanted them to be godparents) because she had just been kissing Fer.

Thanks,
J.

"Screw that, you can't put his soul on a calendar". Oh my, Kat, that phrase alone makes you Queen of the Recappers, m'dear. I tip my hat to you. Great read. As always.

You rock. Love your recap. Mr 5Ft, sadly I am with you. Babies in telenovelas exist only to be (1) switched in the cradle or (2) kidnapped.

Thanks Kat for another snarkilicious recap. :)

I am really loving all the tender scenes with the baby, even with all the baby talk. JB and WL are doing a great job of portraying the joy of being first time parents (especially ones who have just faced a lot of challenges). He really is a cute baby, and seems to be liking all the attention from the cast- it looked like he smiled at MJ/JB as she cooed to him in the hospital and later at the end when MJ and Alex tucked him in. So cute! I really hope they are not setting up anything bad to happen to him. But the only way I can see forcing MJ to impersonate Sandra is by holding her baby hostage as collateral.

Really liked the little scene at the end when MJ makes Alex blush! "I love your body, your face, your smile..." Our shy country girl has come a long way. She's a woman now, able to express her loves, needs and desires. ;)

I missed some of the banter in that conversation too. When MJ said that in another 3 hours Toni was going to need to eat again, Alex said what a demanding little boy, and then makes some flirty comment after that that made MJ laugh- perhaps comparing their demanding little boy to himself?

I think that breast feeding scene was the best PSA I have seen so far in a novela. Really well done (it looked like MJ/JB was really breast feeding in that scene), very relevant and needed, and very sweet.

Allow me a second to rant at the US Censors once again: Why oh why is a baby breast feeding so offensive that its mouth attaching to the breast must be blurred? What is wrong with you people?! You are just sick minded?! OK. I'm done.

-Vivi in DC

Oh, and Alex told Fer and Vicky that he and MJ are getting married in a month, and Tony with be baptized in two months. Jenny- I also thought that scene was so funny when Alex walks in on them smooching and then jokingly tries to prevent Vicky from kissing him with the same mouth she was just kissing Fer with. :)

Loved, loved the recap Kat! What an episode.

Maura and Bruno down a well--now that is the gift that just keeps on giving!

When Paula was babbling to Roberto I kept expecting him to reach out and smack her. She gave me a headache. Although she redeemed herself when she launced herself at Bruno. Good for her. What an asshat.

Does anyone really like Gabriel? I hate his snarly lip thing he does when he's talking. He always looks pissed off. But that's impossible because he doesn't have a spine. He must have had a spinectomy when he had his leg worked on! :P

If MJ wants to convince me she was breast feeding I want to see her jump when Tiny Tony first latches on! If you've ever breast fed you know what I'm talking about...

We are supposed to get 5 more inches of snow today! It will take forever to get home.

Thank you for the recap, Kat.

My telenovela beanie hat has frozen solid from this bitter cold weather, cracked, and fallen off my head. Therefore, I pose the questions:
1)WHY hasn’t MJ told anyone that Bruno kicked her???
2)WHY do I watch this !@#$? Oh, right. This is my CSLE (Continuing Spanish Language Education).

Did anyone ever look at Jane Doe OD patient to verify that was Sandra, before they signed her out?

Kat - LOL about your breast feeding commentary. ;o)
BTW, I'm with Mr. 5ft. That baby is just waiting to be kidnapped by Bruno.

Connie – I cannot stand Gabriel. Loser city. You are not alone. I hope you survive the snow. We're supposed to get some tomorrow. Grocery stores will be a circus today with everyone buying milk, bread & toilet paper.... three things one does not want to go without when it snows. LOL

In that last scene when Uli & Elena were talking, and he said something like 'I have another idea', it sounded to me like she said, "What?" I rewound 3x and sounded the same to me. Did anyone else hear that?

Hola, Amigos!

Haven’t had a chance to judge Tuesday’s (1/5) CC yet, but Monday’s (1/4) was awful. It drove me nuts.

It vacillated between being way-way behind, just a little behind, just right, or completely absent. Geez!

After suffering through it, I switched over to a tele on Telemundo. The CC was perfecto, right on the heels of the spoken words.

And you can choose your CC in Spanish or English. How about that! Plus, get this. It’s in high definition.

Wikipedia, says on January 11, a new tele, "Perro Amor," will start on Telemundo, at the 9 eastern, 8 central slot. It’s a tale of young cousins practicing free love; but committing never to enamorarse. I’m going to record the series.

And when Sortiliegio comes to an end in February, from then on it’s Telemundo for me.

Estoy harto de Univisión’s lousy CC and no HD.

Thanks for the great recap. Needed the detail having a lousy headache starting last night. I like to look at snow, but commuting in it is another matter. Argh

I agree with you Connie about Paula and Roberto. Wow, I know she was excited, but honestly girl, the man just came back from the brink of death and you're screeching at him. And he has a wife who is pregnant and who knows how that poor thing will turn out. If it was me, I would have just asked to her to SHUT IT as politely as possible.

Does anyone think that just maybe that if MJ doesn't agree with Useless and mommy dearest on their plan, they'll perhaps they'll try "force" to convince her. That whole idea makes me a little nervous.

love the baby scenes, but even my son commented how "fresh as a daisy" MJ looked after just having labor the day before. And on top of that already getting sexy sexy with Alex. Don't know about anyone else, but I felt like crap for a good week and the thought of anything but sleep and taking care of the little ones didn't cross my mind.

I think Maura is moving back to the dark side. Maura and Bruno sitting in a tree maybe????

Kat thanks for the great recap. Your assessment of the PSA for breast feeding was hilarious.

While I hate kidnappings, I think it's inevitable. The CHF said it best - babies exist in novelas to be kidnapped or switched.

Connie - Your comment about breast feeding and jumping made me jump. Why is it you learn so much about some of the challenges of child birth late?

Since Alex can't kill Bruno (based on novela rules), my guess is that Maura could do the deed or possibly Useless.

Daisynjay, I agree about MJ looking fresh. I looked like a sumo wrestler for a while after I had my kids with my gut hanging down. Ack!

I guess what struck me as unrealistic was how comfortably MJ was traipsing around. I had 36 hours of labor the first time and was walking on eggshells...ouch, ouch, ouch. Plus I think once I'd gotten up those stairs, I would have looked at the presents from the comfort of my bed!

Another great recap Kat. I am afraid that Mr.5 ft. is not paranoid. Seems the only way to force MJ to leave her beautiful life and hot hubby is to take the baby from her. So don't want to see that happen.

Has anyone seen a new mom breastfeeding with such serenity and not an ouch in sight? I was waiting for the blue birds to land on her shoulder and chip a beautiful lullaby while the fawn nuzzled MJ and batted it's eyes at little Tony. Oh, and maybe a little wink for hottie hubby.

Oh, call me a bit nuts but I know how annoying little Paula is and I was thinking that Roberto was showing some feeling for her auntie enthusiasm. Well, as much feeling as you can show laying there with a few good stab wounds. Almost like "This little crazy girl would be a better mom than my murderous, adultress, baby-hating wife." Just a thought.

Ho hum, another absolutely fantastic, wonderful, marvellous recap from Kat. So what else is new?

Seriously, Kat, I loved it, as I do every time you recap.

I wish, though, that you were right about breastfeeding. I breast fed my son for nine months, and not once did William Levy appear to tell me how gorgeous I was. (Hmmm...then again, William Levy probably hadn't even been born when I breast fed my son. Oh well....)

Breast feeding is highly overrated!

I would have thought it could be just a bit more realistic to have her look a little less made up, hair not so perfectly quaffed (sp)_ and maybe just a tad bit more Exhausted. It was like she stopped at the hairdresser on the way home.
Connie, I do have to agree on the breast feeding. I couldn't do it having had twins, been anemic and had to go back to work 5 weeks after the boys were born, and they turned out healthy, tall and athletic. 18 and going strong.

I couldn't nurse my son because he was allergic to a hormone in my milk. I had to go cold turkey. That's the only time in my life I had cleavage! My daughter could nurse with no problem.

I wonder if MJ will breast-feed in public? Where is her nun? I think she got gyped if she doesn't get one.

Great recap, Kat!

Karen, you're right that since Alex can't kill Bruno, it could be Maura or Ulises. But I'm thinking it could be Erik. Come to think of it, it could be Katia, too. Or Roberto, or even Raquel. Or Cuco. Or....

Another brilliant recap Kat!!! Many thanks. ITA with Judy re. "Screw that, you can't put his soul on a calendar" -- one of the all-time great lines!!!
CubsFan

Thanks, Kat, for another ever-excellent recap. What is up with Elena's husband? What a nasty piece of work. He called Sandra "estupida" more than once. I understand the frustration of dealing with an addict but enough already! The girl is in a coma.

Re: Sortilegio...I enjoy Wm Levy (understatement) but I do not understand why we must have so many objectionable characters in this TN. Dr. Dastardly was such an a$$hat last night that in contrast, I was liking Ulises. Now that is frightening.

thanks for another great recap.

I dont think MJ feeding Tony at the house was the first feeding so, it possible that while in the hospital she did jump during his first meal.

I also dont think the MJ was up to making love so soon I think MJ and Alex just extremely happy and want to be near each other. Alex does like to nap with MJ in his arms.

I also think Tony may be looking at a future kidmapping but maybe by Maura. She's really going to flip when she finds out that MJ and Alex are going to remarry.

Do any think that Sandra stepdad gave her something to put her in a coma? b/c the first doctor said she was unconscious but later her stepdad claimed she was in a coma after he was in the room with her alone. Its a good way for her to become drug free minus the withdrawl syptoms.

Pedro has lied about everything else now he wants to tell the truth and go to jail.

I cant see Bruno spending money to get Rufino out of jail since he didnt get to be the president.
Maybe Rufino will be to one to get rid of Bruno.

Loved all the baby scenes and MJ and Alex as the doting parents were priceless

Elna June after about the first month of this novela i have been saying that myself.

It's one thing to have villains but when the so-called good guys are unsympathetic and annoying.

They make you want to scream and take a hard drink to deal with their scenes then we have a problem.

I don't understand why Carla did it this way and i guess most of them will do something near the end ala Roberto to redeem themselves.

But really did we have to suffer like this to put up being annoyed so much by them we wanted to reach into our tv's and smack them.

Anon 2:22...you crack me up. "Reach into our TV's and smack them". LOL

Do you really think Dr. Dastardly PUT Sandra in a coma? How awful! What does he get our of SANDRA being rich? He obviously can't stand the woman. Has Elena promised to give him Sandra's money? If so, how does she plan on managing that? This whole plotline has left me VERY confused.

Kat, I haven't been able to watch this lately but I had to read your recap, It was (as always) right on the mark and highly entertaining. I love your observations and wry wit.

Diana

Mrs. 5ft.. How do you do it, just hilarious again! My favorite line is "Well, diamonds are a girl's best friend, but then again Maura and Bruno dropped down a well are forever." Too much!! Glad to have Mr. 5 ft back.

Elna June: "Dr. Dastardly was such an a$$hat last night that in contrast, I was liking Ulises." I so agree, Ulises even looked a little better in a nice sweater, albeit kinda hot pink. Obviously, his funky US (?) t-shirts were stolen to use in the bull rings of Mexico City to REALLY anger the bulls. Another topic, what a beautiful garden at Elena's place. The landscape framing of the conversation between Ulises and Elena made our weather seem even grayer and colder.

Paula is one of the MOST annoying chatter boxes in the universe. Also, she is a constant ward robe malfunction waiting to happen. Her blouses make even me nervous. Can you imagine sharing a small office space with her!!! We should all count our blessings that we visit with her only fictitiously on Sorti. She was so funny when, in her anger at seeing Bruno, she was still careful to look down to avoid the puddle....had to protect those wedgies!!!

Elna i thought the doctor at the clinic first said she was unconscious but might slip into a coma.

It seems Elena's third husband is dependent on the money from Elena's second husband father.
As for getting the money through Sandra i would think because she a addict they could easily trick her into signing the control of managing her money to them.

Elna be honest tell me you didn't have the urge to do that with Pedro, Vicki, Ferdumbo, Katia Paula Raqhell,Chucho and even MJ at one time or another.

Sandy i got a kick out of that scene too how she delicately cross over the puddle.

When she starts her screching and chipmunk fast talk i hit either the mute button or volume control.

I really don't have much of a problem with the good guys. Vicky and Fer have redeemed themselves, now that Vicky's eyes are open about Bruno and Fer doesn't believe his buddy Alex is being conned by MJ and her fam. Alex and MJ are on track now too, and have been for a while. Felipa and Zeke tell it like it is, but are loyal and almost always share what they know with the good guys. Paula, although annoying at times, has a good heart and can also be counted on to tell it like it is. Roberto has been redeemed and gave Alex all the info about Sandra.

Pedro, Chucho, Meche and Gabe are pretty typical to me of how country folk/poor folk are depicted in novelas- victimized, distrustful of authority, slow to pass information on. Very annoying, but not unusual.

So the bad guys are: Bruno, Maura, Useless, Katia, Raquel, Erik and now the possibility of Elena and her husband from hell.

Secondary bad guys: Lisette, Mateo

Secondary good guys: entire Lombardo household staff, Mari, Fer’s uncle

Anon:
Sigh. You are so right. Honesty compels me to admit that I have wanted to reach through my TV and make all of those in the Liar's Club chew on some soap before dinner.

And Sandy, Oh my! How you made me cringe at the idea of sharing a small office with Paula. (Shudder) Even at this time of year I would rather be chewing on ice, barefoot, in a garbage dump in Manitoba than share any kind of dwelling with Paula.

But I still feel compassion for her.

Anon: 3:07 You're not the only one that thinks that there are way too many annoying and down right awful characters in this novela. I have begun sampling some of the day time novelas to watch as my next CSLE (thanks Doris!) the sound in them is better anyway!!

This program makes Mad Men look like Handy Manny.

Elna LOL at that image is Paula really that bad, i suggest ear plugs why should you suffer.

Anonymous: Wed Jan 06, 03:07:00 "As for getting the money through Sandra i would think because she a addict they could easily trick her into signing the control of managing her money to them."

My understanding is that Sandra has to show her face to grandpa or he's not going to leave her anything. That's why they were trying to find her. But, once done, if she's not in a coma, Elena and Dastardly might be able to get her to sign everything over to them.

I think they're going to kidnap the baby to get MJ to cooperate. I dread seeing her cry rivers when Tony 2.0 disappears.

Ebony- I also don't think Alex and MJ were moving towards having nookie in that last scene either. Just being flirty and cuddly. They may be stretching reality with MJ looking so lovely, bright eyed and spry after just having a baby, but they can't stretch reality THAT far! ;)

Sandy yesterday you mentioned how since we are getting near the end so let's discuss the acting on this novela.

William is truly the star hands down.

I give Ana Brenda second best acting as Maura she is just so perfectly playing her role, well at least to me and she is having a good time doing it.

Marcelo Cordoba as Roberto we didn't know which way his character would go, definitely shocked and put off by the rape scene. His expressions and being on the fence good solid performance.

The actor who plays Pedro you don't know how many times i wanted to slap Papa Smurf senseless with his lying it's not even funny. Then his other favorite expression it's all my fault AAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh just thinking about it riles me up. So i have to say well cast and truly very good performance.

Mari under used but she has bought credible performance as Alex's executive secretary who he can rely on to keep his office running smoothly.Just her being saddle with the like of Katia may us all identify with her. The day Chucho came to the office and flirted with her. Her expressions were classic.

The actor playing Chucho is also doing a good job too becaues has annoyed me with his lying also.

David Zepeda i never knew that the guy who acted so wooden in Accoralda had it in him to perform like this. Tsk,tsk sound with his tongue makes me want to reach into the tv and tie his tongue in a knot.

The expression on his face when Vicki calls him on his B.S. perfect.

The actor playing Hernan a good veteran actor good role for him.

The actress playing Elen Azela Robinson when she made the comment that she could care less about Pedro and the daughters she left behind. That was cold and she came off as a cold unfeeling mother too.

These are my favorites actors in this novela so far.

Anon- Thanks for the reminder about Hernan. He goes on my good guy list above, with Alex's lawyer on the secondary good guy list- that guys can be counted on for anything.

I'm just not seeing it folks. Aside from the liars club of Chucho, Pedro, Gabe, and Meche I don't get the high level of annoyance with the good guys in this novela (any more so than any other novel). Someone's going to have to convince me of what exactly the problem is. Maybe I'm thinking about this too logically? :)

OK Anon...Interesting list...I have a deadline today, and believe it or not, my hubby and I are going out tonight, in the middle on the week! (ITA Doris with your previous "rest stop" comment!) I'm going to think about this and have MY list ready tomorrow. On first blush, YES, YES, YES William Levy is "truly the star" .

Now for my least favorite acting Wendy Gonzales playing Paula too much screeching and over the top acting. It's the screeching that makes it hard to understand what the heck is she talking about. She was probably directed this way to come across as bratty.

Sometimes i just wanted to put a muzzle on her.

Chantal Andere her bitchy social status upper crust i am better than role as Raqhell would have come across better if she wasn't yelling so often and also over acting her part.

Once again i blame the directing because i guess this how they wanted the actors to portray these roles.

Gabriel Soto i LOl at some of the comments concerning his acting and then i started noticing myself.

His role called him to be in love with his best friends mother and he didn't pull it off, although lately he has tried to warm it up a little bit. His dear in the head lights expression someone had commented on.

Has left a lasting impression for me about his acting.

Daniela Romo definitely coming on as Vicki is enlighten to how truly awful her son Bruno is.

Her romantic parts with Soto leave a lot to be desired, she just does not seem comfortable at all with the older woman and younger man storyline and she is not pulling it off.

Disappointed that a veteran actress like herself couldn't do a better job with this part of her role.

The actor who plays Gabriel just takes up scenery his acting is bleah!

Same for the actress who plays Meche.

Felipa looks serene and i could definitely imagine her as someone's companion.

Ezeke good portrayal as a loyal servant and a bit gossipy too.

The actor playing Eric very good acting you can see him seething with resentment and hatred for Bruno.

Cuco his Lassie moment and being jealous of the new baby in the house classic lovable endearing doggie moments.

Sandy have a good time with the hubby i'll be waiting for your list.

Here's the spanish trailer for Ana Brenda's episode of Mujeres Asesinas 2 if anyone is interested.

Frankie3: I utterly agree with you on the CCs. Univision sucks!!! to think that WL is making them all this money (CCEA did so well around the world; pretty sure Sortilegio will do even better), and they can't spring for decent CC. WL's the only reason I'm watching anything on that network. same goes for T-mundo's HD - great!!

Ok I have two questions...

I've heard that both Corazon Salvaje and Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe will follow after Sorti is over. Which one is it going to be?? The latter looks HORRIBLE in my opinion!

Also, can someone PLEASE explain Felipa's cananganangangas thing that she does to the dog and now Tony? (That's my approximation of what she's saying of course). Someone might have already explained this, but I missed it sorry!

I loved this episode, especially the scenes with Tony/MJ/Ale. But, Chucho and Pedro just irritate me now, I end up wanting to fast forward through their scenes.

Boy, Frankie, chalk me up too as in your camp. I could not agree with you more. The closed captioning on Sortilegio stinks. And it also was for the birds on MEPS.

If I didn’t love Sortilegio, the story, the actors, I’d get out now.

I had recorded three chapters of Más Sabe El Diablo on Telemundo. But up to now I had not watched them. But after reading your post, I checked then out. Frankie, you’re spot on, the CC is terrific. I like so much that when I’m really thrown for a loss about something that was said, I can go back and turn on the English CC.

Also, in October we got a new HD TV. So, being able to see a telenovela in HD is super!

Like you, when Sortilegio ends I’m out of here.

It’s Telemundo for me. That new soap you mentioned, Perro Amor, sounds good.

I’m in your debt, Frankie.

i think the telemundo soaps are better ive been trying to get into sorti but its too ridiculous and it would help if they had englsih captions. mas sabe el diabloall the way for me. and ten my general hospital same day repeats later that night

Great recap, Kat! Busy week so I'm super behind on comments, but just wanted to say hi to everyone. Hopefully, I'll get time later to catch up. :)

I gave up on the CCs a year ago, during FELS, I think, when they got so awful. I'm surprised Looneyvision is allowed to get away with that.

I won't get hooked on a Telemundo show because of the two TVs that get T'mundo, one is the family room DVR (not convenient) and the other can't record digital to VCR since it comes in over air wave signals, or somesuch technical blather and doesn't havae enough jacks in the back to .... oh never mind. It's complicated and irritating. It was hard enough trying to watch BLF that way on T'futila. And I'm too cheap to shell out another $20+surcharges&taxes/month to Comcast for 2nd DVR. Unfortunately, I am not employed and can not write off my CSLE as a business expense. ;o)

MrsImgallego also include the sound quality sometimes the music drowns out the talking or the background noise it's very frustrating to listen too sometimes.

Allie it looks right now it will be Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe while i don't think i'll be staying around to see that.

It's all about ratings and it seems the new version of Corazon Salvage is a big flop in Mexico.

I have read and others have commented about how badly it's doing right now in Mexico good ratings and big ratings equals lots of advertisements and big dollars.

I didn't think by what i was hearing that they would put it into a primetime spot like 9:00 at night.

It will be interesting what they will decide to do with it and when to show it.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens with it.

I love Carlos Ponce his eyes, body and rasy voice just does it for me.

I wish it was on at 9:00 then when Sorti ends i could switch over to watch it.

I have to finish up ENDA.

The new Corazón Salvaje is flopping worse than Pasión ever did. Pasión was on during a very bad time for Televisa, as all their novelas were tanking and Pasión with its very low ratings was the one with the biggest audience even if they were all bad. Corazón Salvaje is on after Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe wich is a ratings success at 8pm (almost as good as MEPS, better than Sortilegio) and it's still tanking. Plus, the critics liked Pasión and they hate Corazón Salvaje.

Still, the choice for HQEDNS after Sorti is odd, since it's a "comedy" and they are airing Un Gancho Al Corazón right now. Mi Pecado would have been a better choice, since it's a drama, it did well on ratings and was well liked by critics, plus Maité Perroni seems to have a following in the USA.

Jarocha

Wow! Another success ala 5ft.! Just a note to the rest of the Sort recapping gang that you've been my lifeline. I've had to do weekend marathons and get by with recaps in between to take the edge off my Caray addiction. The recaps and comments have been so great I don't feel like I've missed much at all! --When the cable company performs a fuster-cluck, it's usually a major one and they have not disappointed in that regard! Doesn't make it any better knowing ahead of time what would happen, but my recap may be posted on Sunday probably this time. I really hope Telerisa gets coal in their stocking next year after what they did to our YouTube backups. GRRRRS!!

Liars Club Sergeant at Arms: Felipa

Jarocha expect Mi Pecado, Maite Perroni's new novela to replace ENDA it seems the type of drama to fit in that spot.

When you say the critics like CS are you talking about in Mexico? It seems Hasta is pretty popular down in Mexico.

I guess it's the ratings that's why they're putting it on at 9:00.

This Hasta show will be on for 11 months so are they hoping for by the time it ends the american audince will forget what we heard about CS?

Another novela to look out for is called Camaleones. Starring Edith Gonzalez,Guillermo Garcia Cantu,Sherlyn, Alfonso Herrera.

This one last about six months, i believe from what i have read is also popular.

yes, I did mention in the past, as well as others, about sound quality - horrible!

As for Carlos Ponce, he was even more gorgeous almost 10years ago. After watching WL and his luscious, full, kissable lips, whenever I see other guys with thin, villainous lip, I'm not as attracted anymore. but that's just me.

MrsImgallego don't forget Williams bedroom eyes i could just drown in them they so sexy.

Yes i remember Carlos from 10 years ago.

Anon Wed Jan 06, 07:25:00 PM EST -
oh I'm not forgetting about his eyes; it's so unfair that a man could have such long eyelashes. he's just got too many beautiful physical qualities to enumerate. They say there's no such thing as perfection, but I bet he comes real close to it. When I stare at him, the word 'caramel' comes to mind, by way of his color (eyes, hair, skin).... yummy!

LOL Anon and Mrs. Imgallego, I love to return to Caray and read about how hot William Levy is. On the same line, I am ROFL at Kat's "MJ says she really digs his bod and his smile, but she likes his soul best. Screw that, you can't put his soul on a calendar."

I also loved how Alex reacted when he caught Victoria and Fernando kissing. Too cute and funny.

I'm liking that Pedro is gonna accept his part in his crime.

Yes a hot Caramel BonBon love it.Cielo de Levy the guys do it all the time over their SI swimsuit models i say why can't we over our novela novio's.

amen

I wouldn't recommend Camaleones, It's a little weird. It started with good ratings but flopped later. It's a teen novela.

HQEDNS is doing great in most Latin America, not just in México so I guess that's why the Univision people decided to go with it.

Jarocha

Camaleones will probably be shown in the afternoon when it gets here then.

I think i read there's a novela with Mario Cimmarro starring in it. He starred in a lot of novelas for Telemundo.
