Gancho Wed Feb 17 - pending wedding, faked funeral, faked death twice over?

I missed recording the first bits here so here is where mine started.

Pau is giving Estrella the third degree about her decision to marry Aldo, he's a minor how is he even going to be able to even get married. Ah good point Pau. Nonetheless she promises to stand up at the wedding.

Gabi strolls up, it didn't go well with Lorenza. Mona is there too and wonders what the other two gals pau and Estrella were chatting about, she is watching them.

Katia is getting ready to leave and happily tells Aldo he won't have to see her anymore. Coni is whining to herself trying to get herself to not feel so bad. She decides she alone should not have to suffer, it's not fair.

Over at the tudor, Sal is in coma state while Loriloca is admiring the new digs. Oski shows up with nurse in tow who is supposed to follow exact instructions to administer shots to Sal. Jero shows up with the requested clothing for Sal and the crazy woman.

Moni is feeding her fish when the howling Momia shows up all manic. She wants to take Mona to see a woman and promises if Mona goes with, she will return the kids to Mau. Mona wants none of her tricks, but finally agrees to go. GIANT ANVIL!!!

Actually, she wants an explanation before she will go anywhere though. Coni won't tell, and says they are losing time. Mona is hedging, but Coni says fine then nevermind we'll forget everything...you take the risk....

Alicia is with Nieves and is bawling because she can't believe that Isabel could do this. They are trying to figure out how to find her and throw around the idea of Mau hiring a detective, then recall he lost all his money. Nieves wonders why Alicia didn't tell Mau anything about Marcos because he has a lot of money and therefore the means to help. Alicia wonders how coincidental it is that both he and Issy show up at the same time. Nieves thinks it's not at all, he hated Issy, but Ali isn't sure.

Cut to Marcos reflecting on Mau telling him about Mona thinking Issy dead. He is then getting a call from Issy and he too wonders where she ran off to and he wants to know why she pulled this trick. She is giving up nothing. He wants to get close to his daughter. She says nope, you turned your back on me, so now you'll have to give her up.

Now we cut to Oski and Jero painting up Sal to look dead. Really dead. With blood and everything. They are oh so official in their white lab coats. They take a photo of him holding the incriminating cell phone.

Pau and Estre talk again about the wedding. Aldo calls and says everything is almost ready and in a few days they will get married before she changed her mind. She swears she won't. Pau is still unsure, but promises not to abandon her buddy.

Mona is following Momia and getting in to her car. They drive off. We see Jaqui get out of a taxi and go into the vecinidad. Then Mau and Tano show up. It's great how the parking space stays available for all of these folks. Tere sees them and invites them in for some hot bread.

Ali and Nieves are in the apartment and get a knock, it's Jac. She wants to talk but Nieves isn't so sure. Jacqui tells Nieves she is the only one who can help their kids by telling them the truth. Nieves isn't sure what she can do. Jac tells her Marcos told them they are siblings, so they can't be together.

Flash to sibling Beto getting a lesson in monastery life from our favorite Tomas from La Fea. He tells him they awake at 5 am to watch the miracle of the sunrise, they eat breakfast of bread and water and then afterwards they flagellate themselves. Then, they can do their various callings to please God. Beto can get behind everything, even the flagellation, but he likes to get up around noon or eleven-thirty, so can he skip the early rising part? Oh and the robes, he wants his t-shirts and pants. He carries on about this, maybe he can wear them under, God would not see, but brother reminds him God sees and knows all. Ouch.

The ninnies continue bickering, Alicia finds out Marcos was Jac's hub and tries to meddle. After a few insults about how their kids deserve better than each other the gals come to agree that sadly those kids both still love each other.

Mona and Momia continue driving. Val complaining, then thinking this has something to do with Beto. She blasts Momia that all she wanted was to take advantage of Beto. This takes Momia's eyes off the road for quite a long while as she cries to Val that she really loved him but their love was something they shouldn't do. She doesn't want to talk about him.

Mau and Tano look for Mona and think it weird she's not home.

Now the girls are arguing about Mau. Val decides she's too mad and gets out of the car she's not going anywhere unless she hears what's up. Momia says fine, we are going to see your Ma. Of course impactada face from Mona closes the night for us.

Kris, a wonderful, spirited recap (as always). Thank you for including all of the great details and the humor you infused throughout.

I was quietly sipping my coffee but burst out laughing at our poor Beto's plight. Alas, flaggelation, drab apparel and and an early to bed, early to rise regimin pose a signtificant challenge. Further, how will he forsake his culinary cravings for bread and water? He may not be able to "cut the cloth" (so to speak), for a monastic life.

Isn't it enough that Isabel hates her own daughter? Now, she doesn't want Marcos to have any relationship with Moni either???
Blech.

I am torn about Estrella and Aldo. I think they genuinely love each other but... Also, do we know Estrella is definitely pregnant?

If Coni and Beto are to end up together and if Coni is to be redeemed, Jac and Nieves are sure to be part of the equation if that occurs. Jac and Nieves as in laws? What a great sitcom that would be!

Diana

Good morning. Kris, bless you for getting this up quickly. I was so tired last night that I missed the very end. I think it's hilarious that you call Jacqui, Nieves and Alicia the ninnies, made me laugh out loud. I love seeing those three pros together. More scenes with them please.

Diana, I also keep questioning Estrella's pregnancy, but apparently she did take a drugstore test that came out positive. As Hombre pointed out, she and Aldo used protection but she still ended up pregnant so where's the moral lesson in all of this? I'm still hoping to wrap my mind around this unusual story line. As much as they love each other NOW it just doesn't seem prudent that they marry, does it?

Kris, I loved your turn of phrase that Oski and Jero looked "oh so professional" in their lab coats. Such silliness.

The scenes of Beto attempting to be "holy" are too, too funny.

Thanks Kris, awesome recap, very enjoyable!

Oh, and I notice Tano has arrived for a visit. Is it just in time to shake up the Aldo/Estrella pairing? Hmmm... Whatever, I liked how Mau and Tano were so very kind to Tere. They were probably in a good mood because of the perpetually available parking.

Kris, once again you nail it with your title.

Kris, excellent recap. Very snappy, very witty. Ninnies struck me, like Sylvia, as very funny and apt. Jaqui, Nieves, and Alicia could make a potent team if they stop bickering and sniping at one another.

Poor Aldo. If he didn't already have enough problems, now Mr. bland, Tano is sniffing around again. For some reason, this guy really grates on me. For me he drips insipid smugness. Why couldn't Oscar have kidnapped and drugged him instead? Now we as well as Estrella will have to endure his clucking judgmental disapproval couched as sympathetic concern.

Hope that Judy is OK. Her beloved OSU lost a heartbreaker to Purdue yesterday.

Poor Beto. The early rising and bread and water for breakfast may be a deal breaker for our aspiring holy man.

You have to love Coni's generosity wanting to share her misery with her sister.

Carlos

Oooh Carlos, I will have to remember "drips insipid smugness" to use if and when the occasion arises. Scathing snark. Perfect!

Diana

Thanks for another terrific recap, Kris. You really made it look like fun, whereas most of the episode was not positive.

Beto was funny when he asked Tomas about just who is this mysterious "Señor" who sees all? Yes, Beto apparently didn't even realize it was God.

Isabel's remarks to Marcos confirm what we had suspected - the only reason she agreed to return and help him meet with Moni was that she thought Marcos would take her back as a lover. Since he won't, she won't help him meet with Moni. But it looks as if Moni might meet her Ma, anyway.

I think Oscar said he got some of Sal's actual blood from the mental hospital, and that's what they were putting all over him, and all over Coni's clothes. Ick!

Alicia said Mau should hire a detective, and Nieves said he can't because he's totally broke from the divorce settlement. I guess she doesn't know about the money Xime lent him.

We need more Xime!

Hombre, I can't imagine why the mental hospital would have a unit of Sal's blood on hand, but then there's nothing at all conventional about what they've done to poor Sal. They must not have a utilization and review committee at the manicomio. I suspect the hospital is not approved by the Joint Commission either.

Carlos

Yes, Carlos, from what I've learned from watching telenovelas, there are three kinds of hospitals in Mexico. You have your Red Cross, which is for the everyday people (usually our heroes), and all the staff are nice, good, caring, etc. You have the rich people's hospital (I think, we rarely see these), and then you have the "private" hospital or mental hospital, usually run by some bad guy, who is more than happy to take money for any nefarious purpose. That's where they put Gramps in FELS, Lili in MEPS, and Sal in Tontas. Apparently things are a bit more "relaxed" in these latter institutions. :)

Please note, this is just based on telenovelas, and has no relationship whatever to reality!

Way to go, Kris.

Yes, we need more Ximena! And, shouldn't somebody check on little Dani? She's been 'asleep' for an awfully long time!

Hey folks, thanks, sorry I was away this 3 day weekend and I caught up a little late, but I did read everyones caps. I loved the lurking title, I loved Carlos' anvil line up and Judy's sominferous characterization also had me in stitches.

I'm not sure what's up, but it appears my DVD gets out of whack with time maybe when the power goes out or something. We blow fuses frequently in my "older' home. Anyway I missed like the first 10 minutes of the show. I know some was the repeat, but I'm guessing there was more that I missed. Anyway, hope you all are well, and thanks again. I'm torn about Estre and Aldo too, I believe in love keeping folks together despite challenges, but it would be tough for poor Aldo. I don't see him as the fickle type though, if he accepts that resposibility, I don't see him giving up on her in 10 years. Anyway, I hope they make it work out somehow. maybe Marcos can adopt them or fund them somehow!! :)

Don't know what happened to the comment I thought I posted an hour ago. Something may be wrong with my link somehow. This recap never showed up here until past noon -- though I could see that others were on line as early as 8am.

Enough complaining-- I was just wondering again about Estrella & the pregnancy. We know that she and Aldo used protection and that the drugstore test was positive. But what about Tano? How long a time was there between Tano nd Aldo? How does she know it's not Tano who is the father?

Lots of stuf to love in this episode and you captured it all, Kris. Loved the two "suegras" swallowing their distaste for each other and for the love objects of their offspring because they know Beto & Coni are mad for each other. Loved Beto in the monastery bargaining for better terms. Loved Oscar & Jero in their white coats and sterile gloves.

Go SU! Need to get back on that winning streak!

Güera from Syracuse

Gotta love your "drips insipid smugness", Carlos. I do not agree that it applies to Tano, but it's a great turn of phrase.

Hmm... this monastic self-flagellation is rather like the albino dude in "The DaVinci Code" or else Shi'a Muslims at Ashura. Whatever. Just so long as they're over 18 and volunteers and clean up after themselves.

Thanks, Kris, for the recap!

Hi Kris...thanks for getting this out bright and early. Wouldn't you know this was the one day I was in a speed race from 5 am till now (almost 2 pm). However I realize that's the schedule and worse for most of you.

Add me to the list of those who loved "ninnies". Plus I think your "Issy" for Isabel is great...because it's so close to "ICKY", and alas, she is.

Also like the transition from "sibling" previous paragraph to "flash to sibling" in the next paragraph. One of the chronic conundrums of recappers...how to make those paragraph transitions when the actual episode jumps around so much.

Yes, Carlos...heartbroken about the Purdue-OSU loss. We came out cold and out of rhythm and allowed them to jump to a 7-0 lead and it just kept getting worse. Surprised we came as close to tying it at end (if only that 3-pointer by Diebler had gone in...) But...oh well.

Güera--also hope Syracuse gets back on a winning streak. I really like your coach. Always have. Classy guy. Sort of a John Wooden type, only taller.

Aldo...Tano...Estrella...don't know where that will lead. Let's go back to Ximena! And Lalu. They're more fun.

Was listening to sports radio the other day (you know, blah blah blah about contracts, who's the better quarterback etc.) but this one fellow had good advice. If your team loses, you have exactly ONE HOUR to get over it. No sulking for the rest of the evening or day. LOVE YOUR TEAM. Focus on that, not the loss. I rather liked that advice.

I'd like to see a whole spinoff telenovela featuring Ximena, Rolu, Arnie, and Lalu. Valentina can show up when someone needs a pounding. Can some producer get on that?

Kris, thanks for a recap that brightened up a fairly dim episode. Thank goodness for Beto's being Beto.

Oscar is so creepy. I'm really starting to look forward to his downfall, even if he is pretty entertaining, as villains go.

Speaking of the flagellation -- did it seem to you all that Beto rather liked the idea of self-flagellation?

And yes, oh yes, where is our Ximena? We need a dose of Xime every day/\.

Güera

Guera, et al, yes, we need our dose of Vitamin X(ime) every day!

Yes, Güera, Beto seemed to find the idea of self-flagellation er...um...stimulating. No doubt imagining some sort of bondage-punishment fantasy. Clearly not what sanctimonious Hermano Thomas was envisaging. (as far as I know)

Thank you so much for your wonderful recap Gancho! I had written a comment earlier but apparently is gone! Maybe I never really posted it? I don't know what happened.

I think Brother Beto is going to leave an impression on the monastery. I wonder how much he will last there.

Isabel is so horrible. She is the only character I don't care about at all. I even care for the other villains (Oscar, Jero, Coni, Marcos?) but she is just ughh.

Lets see what Oscar has planned for Coni. To think that alone Jero would not be able to do anything.

Jarocha

Jarocha,
Interesting that you also tried to post a comment and had it disappear. Something wrong with the site perhaps? Or are we having joint memory loss & forgetting to hit all the buttons????

Güera

I wrote a comment this morning and when I pushed the button to publish, I just got error messages, and then I couldn't get back to the recap page, just more error messages.

When I did eventually get back on the page, though, my comment was there. Blogger was having a seizure, I think.

Maybe because the Sortilegio finale there are more people checking the site. I've seen sometimes that when a site gets flooded with visits some things stop working well.
