Un Gancho Wed Feb 24 - Wednesday Night's Alright for Fightin' ....Wednesday..Wednesday....
We open with the bro/ sis reconciliation scene and Nieves fanning herself with the coveted red sobre. Coni feigns ill and begs for air to get the envelope...when Nieves sends her outside for air she finally recovers and gets mad that she can't have the envelope. of course she manages to get it somehow eventually.
Estre and Aldo are together and she says she has to go pipi all the time now with the pregnancy. While she's gone, Aldo takes the opportunity to call Oscar about the wedding. He mentions to Oscar he went to the tudor to look for him. Oscar freaks. Aldo tells him nothing happened there.
Marc and Jacqui show up at Nieves' and Marc begs for forgiveness from the two kids for trying to separate them. Soon this degrades and Beto accuses his Ma of not keeping herself chaste. They get back around to the task at hand that the kids are in love and they need to get over all this crap. Pa begs his Coni to not give up on love like he did. She, with other tasks on her mind, says yeah, fine, Dad, another time now I have to run. She takes the sobre rojo with her and opens it in her car and we confirm they are photos of dead Sal with her bloody clothing. Her next clue is that the primate has something, so she thinks it's Mona and goes over there.
Aldo wonders to Oscar why Loriloca was there. Oscar tells him nevermind - just do what I say.
Oscar tells Aldo to zip it re the Loriloca sighting or he forgets about his wedding. Anvil.
Gabi admires Mona's strength and wishes she had the same to confront Oscar. Tere shows up with cookies and sweetens the mood.
Uh oh, Momia is tearing apart Mona's apartment. Ouch, that hurts to watch, but alas Mona discovers her and confronts her.
Outside, Ivan shows up muy triste after his fight over Luisa. Nothing better to fix that than Grandma and homemade cookies, that's for sure.
Mona challenges Momia to a fight over the sobre rojo. Rojo is the choice color for sobres, remember the red one in La Fea too? Think back, I'm sure there are others. OK- let's summarize this, they throw some venom at each other about their boxing skills and Mona knocks her out. Flat out.
Beto is cursing Coni. He was never important to her. The Pas say no way, she loved you and it's not too late. Jac swears that Coni loves Beto and that's what's important.
Ivan runs off upset.
Dani sighting. Luisa is crying over how she hurt two people who care about her alot. Dani begs her not to cry and that she should just ask them to forgive her. So sweet.
Marc swears he'll do what's needed to help because Beto is the love of his daughter's life - choke. Ma reminds that Beto decides.
Moni wonders what could be in this crazy envelope that she wants so bad. OH Open it for gosh sakes!!!!
Commercial...
Estre comes into the room before Mona can open the red envelope, doh...she sets it on the table. Estre sees the Momia and wonders what happened. She yells at Mona for disappearing.
Outside Pau and Cris continue their fight over the Momia makeout, Mona and Estre go out to see the chaos they hear. Everyone is shocked to hear Cris was with Momia.
Back to Jacqui telling Beto not to throw in the towel. Marcos throws in his cheer for the same. Beto thinks she doesn't love him.
Now Cris is surrounded by cackling women who wonder what the heck he was doing. Clear gender lines here. Aldo helps out his team by telling the story of the time that Momia did the same thing to him, showed up in a bathrobe.
Now Ma cheers for Beto that Coni loves him. She reminisces about the time in the hospital when Coni thought Beto dead. Jac begs him to try, that he is the only one who can save her daughter. Marcos lets out a "porfis" Ha!!
Paula breaks up with Cris despite him begging her not to. She'll find a man who will want to marry her. Cris doth protest.
Beto agrees to fight for the Momia. May God and all the saints help him! The p'rents are all pleased and pledge their support. Jac leaves but Marcos wants to stay and talk to Nieves. Jac insults him that Coni clearly came from him and that the "commoner" is still in him. He begs Beto to leave them alone. After a protracted argument, Beto finally agrees when his Ma tells him it will be ok.
Marcos reminds Nieves he never forgot her and it's never too late to fight for her love. Oh yes it is, says Cesar, who busts in and claims his woman!! Rah Cesar!!!
Beto comes out and tells the entire tenement about the love triangle between his Ma and Coni's Papas. They are all shocked.
Cesar wants to resolve things with Marcos the only way he knows how. A golpes. He spits some fighting words.
Pau and Cris continue arguing. This captures Beto's attention and he learns Cris was with Momia. Oh. WAIT, what???? Now he is going to get in on the bashing. Yikes, this doesn't go well and they start to come to blows. Moni wants to help but Pau tells her to butt out.
Cesar and Marcos fight over Nieves rolling her back and forth between the two of them like pretzel dough. I'm her past and future. I'm her present..... blah blah. Me thinks Nieves likes all the manly contact.
Momia finally wakes up, luckily Mona came back in time to get the envelope. Of course they fight over this again. Momi throws the Mami card out again. Mona says nope didn't ruin my life, made it better, thank you. She explained everything. Momi eats this up and starts laughing, swearing her Ma hates her..oh and she knows why, because you, Mona, are the product of her rape. Ouch.
Mona says that's not true, Momia drives home how it is, and how Mona is muy poca cosa.
Beto now has Cris in backhand lock. Pau still crying over him and Cris still swearing his love. Pau exits, but Cris tells Beto it was all Momia's fault. Cris wants to fight for Pau's love. Beto for Coni. Beto finally lets him up.
Mona puts her fighting hands up again, she doesn't want to hear the Momia anymore. This goes on again for a while. Oh crap, now she brings up Mau and how he hasn't been honest with her either. Mona swears she already talked to him and all is fine.
Back at the duel of old amors, both Cesar and Marcos swear their undying love to Nieves. She eventually kicks them both out, but then smiles at the prospect of two men fighting over her.
Back to the envelope fighting. Mona yells at her that what's in there must be something that she will hurt someone else with because that is all she knows how to do and she is now more alone than ever. She's destroyed Mau and now she goes home to noone. Ah, dear Momia starts to cry.
Aldo, Beto, Cris, and Cesar are sitting on the ground. Mau walks up and wonders what happened. All the guys start talking at once about their various ills. Ali and Tere walk up to distract him. Mau stops Ali to tell her that Issy has shown up.
OK now it's Momi's turn - she tells Moni that Mau would have told her the truth. Shortly thereafter said Mau shows up. Momia tells him he should really tell Mona the truth about how her Ma really does hate her. Mona begs him to tell if this stuff is true. Momia eggs him on. He says he'll talk to her, but alone. Ha - then he doesn't, he tells her right there in front of the Momia that it's true, her Ma isn't the person she thinks. What???? Smack to us and that's the end of the episode. Sheesh.

Plus, what are all of you guys thinking about Estrella and Aldo? I just can't get behind them getting married with Aldo only 16. And now that Also has seen Loriloca, what does Oscar intend to do about this? I don't want to think about Aldo being in further danger from Oscar.
I don't like Marcos any better when he is begging forgiveness than when he is gloating. I do not trust this man, my friends.
Elna June, you're a smarter lady than I am. As soon as Marcos started rooting for the love affair, I was smitten all over again. He seemed so ...well..avunculer. And my "mom, dad, please don't fight" complex led me to root for Jacqui and Marcos working together like parents again. Of course no one but the electrified, toddler-jammied Cesar will do for Nieves.
Oh and thanks for the shout out to Elton John, Kris. I've danced to that tune and now will be humming it all day. Great!
I think I'm past fretting about Aldo's age. The kid seems committed enough. I believe he told Oscar he's 17, does anyone else recall that? So maybe a touch closer to 18 and therefore more palatable? (Is that anything like being a little pregnant? I guess if you're under age you're under age.) Don't laugh, but I have a second cousin who was impregnated at age 16 by her 14 year old boyfriend. This was years ago. They have two full-grown, lovely daughters and are still happily married. True love is strong, just sayin'.
But yeah, I'm with EJ in my concern for Aldo as regards Oscar and Loriloca. Watch out cachorro.
It feels like were in merry-go-round phase of the telenovela, round and round with the same old same old. Thank goodness we have some stellar acting to keep us engaged.
Carlos, I apologize in advance, but I cheered when Moni FINALLY made la Momia cry. It's about time!
I always love your lively recaps Kris. Awesome job and thoroughly enjoyable!
Not sure if anyone is watching CS, but Coni (as another Constanza) showed up at the very end, pregnant. I think she is the one to have the twin girls. So if anyone (Carlos) wants to see her in another role, you probably have only 1 or 2 nights to catch her.
Thanks for the condolences Judy. I didn't watch it and didn't know who won until you mentioned it. :( :) Guess we had our chances.
Good job. I thought that yesterday's episode was great fun. The early scene of Coni and Beto kissing, although in the presence of Nieves, Jaqui, and Marcos, was never the less, quite steamy. The chemistry between those two is downright breathtaking. I hope that they get a room... and soon. Both must have a great deal of pent-up emotion to expend.
Beto's fight with Cristian was too funny. At a couple of points Beto lost his hold and Cristian obligingly helped him regain it.
Moni's KO of Coni, was very authentic. Clearly Coni is no match for our little Campeona Nacional, but is was also evident, as Moni noted, that Coni has been training. By the way, Constanza was radiant last night as who else? Constanza.
Elna June,
I hope that you warm up to Marcos. Predictably, he is becoming a lovable scoundrel, the same part that he has played in every TN that I've seen him in.
Judy,
A good evening for both OSU and Baylor. As you noted (sorry Jeff), not so much for Minnesota.
Diana,
Report in. We are worried about you.

Looks like Coni is going to have to do a lot more training if she plans to take out Moni. Better defense. Just like Jero, has to protect that glass jaw.
Finally the snow has reached all the way up here to Syracuse. Beautiful trees this morning.
Coni not only showed some evidence of training but she was sporting quite a muscular pair of arms when she went into her stance.
EJ, I'm fond of Marcos. I hope you are wrong and that Carlos is right about his lovable rascal persona. I do like him together with Jacqui. So I'm rooting for a reunited family and more of our color coordinated elder nacos Cesar & Nieves. Yes, she did let that rolling back & forth go on long enough to enjoy herself, didn't she?
I'm still not comfortable with the idea of marriage between 16 or 17 year old Aldo & 30 year old Estrella. I was less put off when I thought she was maybe in her early 20s. I'm still rooting for Tano -- I know, I know, don't stone me.
G
Yes, the one episode of CS that I saw in Mexico featured Ivan as a young YDD.
I hope none of the red envelops fall into Gabi's hands, that would be horrible. Forgot to mention the other day how cute she was in the "sexy nightgown" scene when she said, "Why do I need this? I'm sleeping with Moni!" Really cute!
The thing about the marriage of Aldo and Estre, is that currently they seem to be going through the motions. Maybe that is what happens in those circumstances, a lot of shock and no time for the romance of it all. Aldo, despite his non-traditional childhood, is trying to do the right thing, I guess that counts for something.
Long ago, I thought to get her address and phone number just in case, so dug it out and voilá, back in contact.
But in the meantime, send her some prayers and Susanlynn-type good vibes))))) and hopefully she'll be back in the saddle and feeling in the pink tomorrow.
After people got over the shock, they'd laugh weakly and say, yes, well, er...thank you.
Aldo did say he's 17, but that's still far less than 30. However, I'm still rooting for Aldo and Estrella. Love has no age, right? Don't know if I'd agree with real people, but in a show like this, why not?
I felt sorry for Cris, but I love how the actor is playing him, so upstanding, with such innocent bravado. It's far different from how he's been in several other novelas, where he was an evil lowlife.
It was funny how Moni never opened up the envelope, but par for the course.
This episode seemed like an awful lot of fists being thrown around. Tough days in Gancholand. It is getting tedious, but like you say good acting and still very funny, so we go along for the ride.
I loved the four guys sitting on the ground and Mau, the one who perpetually has the problems seeming like the pillar of strength for a moment. That was a bit ironic. Hysterical when they all talked at once!!
Yep, I have had the EJ song in my head all night and today too...
Also hope poor Alley Cat is doing better too. We once put down a feral cat we found that had been hit or something and broke it's leg. The vet said it would be way to hard to care for a feral with a cast or what have you so it was better off to put it down. Poor thing was scared to death at the vet, but I guess in the end it was best to trap it and take it in, otherwise it would have suffered more. Sigh. Oh well. Glad to hear for other cats that doesn't have to be the scenario, so I'm routing for Alley to heal up soon!!
Thanks for the update on Diana. Oh, the flu can be wicked. Just ask Carlos! I bet you, Carlos, have seen some very ill people from various flus over the years.
Diana, I'll do a little puja (Buddhist prayer) for your healing and well being. I am so glad our kind amiga JudyB checked in on you.
Me, smarter than you? I DON'T think so. I am just not a romantic so I see Marcos' complex behaviors and manipulations (personal and business) and imagine that they do not bode well for our dear characters.
OK, all, I am ready to sit at the feet of ye telenovela masters; what is the deal with these extensions to TNs? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a beginning-middle-end story contained in single arc? Do they determine extensions from audience ratings alone? What about audience feedback, through the internet and other vehicles? When we "feel" these lags in the forward action of the plot, can we assume that there has been an extension? I guess the Mexican audience would know about the extension in (more or less) real time; I wonder if knowing this affects their viewing experience or makes it different from ours?
Don't get me wrong, I am delighted that Gancho was extended. I am curious about this phenomena as it is quite different from either the Hollywood model for films (Rambo 1 through 19) or for series made for American television.
Extensions are money-driven in the same way that sequels and remakes are. If a show is doing well (and Gancho was doing quite well in Mexico) then it gets extended... if director and writers are willing.
Clearly Carla Estrada has the clout to say NO, not gonna do it. Here are the episodes. Punto.
But everybody else seems to go along with the request. The most egregious example I've seen is the butchery done on Cuidado Con El Angel. The extensions were not only boring, they were ludicrous, outrageous, ridiculous and depressing. But what the heck, there was William Levy in his tight pants and we just had to make do.
Such a sad story about the feral cat. I, too, am grateful for animal and human healers. This vet surgeon did a great job on our Alley. Alley was one of a litter of 5 four-week old kittens that had been dumped by the side of one of our rural roads here in Sonoma County. My husband spotted the kittens while bicycling and called me to come get them. We fostered the kittens, found homes for two of them and kept three. So Alley has gone from being a plain gray side-of-the-road cat, free to us except for his shots and check-ups, to a pretty expensive fellow.
Carlos, can't believe you made a road trip to Columbus to see a basketball game (or was it football?). Wouldn't consider Baylor to be a David unless it was football. We do tend to be Goliath in that case (unless we're playing a team from Florida).
Within the last year we lost the old guy, mostly to age but probably stomach cancer or something, the Mom to vaccine site fibrosarcoma, and her daughter to the same thing last month. I went from 4 cats to 1, and the poor little brother is all alone now. He stopped getting the rabies vaccine when he had a bad reaction, so we hope that spared him the cancer.
It's all very sad so I am super overjoyed when I hear of animals getting care that can heal them and I wish them the best. My mamacat was so darn sweet and I miss her terribly.
Now I haven't seen today's episode yet, but I REALLY hope that Valentina has changed clothes. The red and yellow outfit was starting to look like well-aged sweats. Like well-aged sweats that are more than ready for a little spin in the washer. Yes, with soap.
How about a nice pair of Texas barn cats to fill the almost certainly empty spot in your heart? Guaranteed affectionate and good ratters to boot. My daughter has picked up where my mom left off in rescuing kittens and cats dumped off near their farm. She gets them fixed, but like my mom, she just can't say no when a new batch appears. The vet gives her a group discount. My mom relied on my brother who was a vet. Every so ofter he'd do a cat roundup, take them to his clinic and find homes for as many as he could. We all sure miss him. Shortly before she died I remember looking out the kitchen window and seeing my mom like an aging drum major leading a feline parade of cats of every race, color and creed.
Judy,
our road trip to Columbus was for a football game. We were in awe as we stood inside that massive stadium, feeling much as the early Christians did upon entering the Colloseum. I was already a big Woody Hayes fan, but it would have been fun to have the Bears under Grant Teaff hand him a loss. The next morning on the Woody Hayes Show on TV, he said, "Baylor has a nice little team." Thanks Woody.
Wasn't it heart-breaking to see that single unbidden tear roll down Coni's cheek? Everyone will love her before this is over.
Carlos
Kris,
Spandex is not kind to old Dr. Carlos, but I can see Mike and Hombre decked out in Spandex. I haven't seen Jeff, but I'll bet he can carry it off as well. Does the Men's Wearhouse carry suits like Cesar wears?
Carlos
Carlos.. if you want to see more Coni on CS, tonight might be it. commercials today mentioned nueva etapa on Friday for CS. Means we'll probably get our first EY and Aracely sightings, so assume that will be it for Coni.
Wait'll you see what we might put you in if you stop dropping by. I'm sure that Mike might have a Speedo that would fit you.
Carlos
Actually, if y'all don't mind towing the motorcycle on a trailer behind the Flower Power van, I'd be willing to sit on the bike and drink beer while wearing a copy of Mauricio's MF outfit.
Carlos, where'd you have lunch today? Goodson's or the oyster place?
On wardrobe for the road trip...Nix on spandex for me, but I am happy to see it on others, especially if properly accessorized with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots.
Me, if we travel in hot weather, to which I am poorly adapted, I'll be rocking a caftan and carrying a fan.
The way our road trip is shaping up 9in terms of costumes) we may just have to head to Burning Man.
Sadly, auto insurance for the Mini in Mexico is a fortune! Is this first Gancho road trip going to have to be in the US of A?
and all you other lovers of those with four feet, bless your hearts. Kris, I am so sorry for your loss this year. This is the second set of kittens that my husband's bicycle club has rescued in the last couple of years.
We have lots of agriculture here, mostly dairy farms and vineyards. So a few farm cats are always welcome, although growing up on a ranch, we PREFERRED to procure them ourselves. But according to our local SPCA, folks dump hundreds of litters of kittens a year in our rural ag areas.
Carlos, the image of your mom leading the parade of kitties will long live in my memory.
Stick around, you are hilarious.
Elna June,
Our little serial killer, Jack, never set foot outdoors during the first year of his life. He caught up fast. Blood tells.
Carlos
