Corazon Salvaje - Monday, April 5, 2010 - little birdies never lie

EPISODE #32 :
* At the convent office, Regina meets with Padre to discuss her inclusion into the convent. She is suffering from a horrible heartbreak and feels dead to the world but alive to God. He gives her the advice that she can’t enter the convent to hide, she has to go live in the real world and find out who she is and what she really wants to be first. She is hurting and crying about Renato loving Aimee and not her. Padre tells her that isn’t a reason to enter the convent and become a nun. He wants her to take off her habits. She can’t do that. He tells her to go ahead, start fresh and become a new and improved “Regina Montes de Oca”.

* Noel shows Rod the latest revenues from the ranch and the contracts turning over ownership to Renato. Rod is pleased with the statements and has no problem with Renato owning the ranch, after all it will stay in the family because of Renato’s wedding to Aimee. Noel mentions Regina’s feelings. Rod doesn’t really want to discuss her, cuts the conversation short and leaves.

* Dr. Pablo is on the street by the carriages. He overhears a conversation by two gentleman. They are discussing a mysterious stranger who sailed into port recently. He flashes back to treating Juan’s wounds in the cave; he is almost convinced that the conversation is about Juan. Dr. Pablo sees Regina and stops her. She is sad; he offers to help.

* Gabe is on the street. He talks with a man as he looks around for Dr. Pablo. Jimena is about 100 steps behind him. She hides her bag and sneaks up behind Gabe. Gabe thinks it’s Estrella but is disappointed when he sees it’s just Jimena. She’s sad by his lack of enthusiasm to see her. Of course, his mood changes drastically when she tells him that tonight at the casino he will see his Estrella. He is so excited by the thought of seeing his "Estrella" again.

* Federico is on the other side of the garden watching Gabe and Jimena, and thought bubbling to himself.

* Juan pratices his own form of jujitsu in his private cave. He sits down and feels his head. He has a fever. He drinks some water and screams. He lays on his grass mat and remembers his dad’s ‘death oath’. He rolls over and calls for his daddy. He mutters to himself as Clemencia enters the cave. She kneels down at his side. He is a scared little boy asking for his mommy. She isn’t his mommy but cares for him just the same. She blames Aimee for what Juan is going through right now.

* Aimee stares as Leona hands her the guest list for the wedding. Leona is illusioned to plan the wedding and hopes Renato and her will be happy together. She finally notices Aimee staring at her, with a frozen expression on her face. Aimee has to snap out of her frozen state to tell Leona that of course she will be happy with Renato then let’s it out that Regina was totally in love with Renato for all the years they were in Europe. Leona is stunned. Eloisa enters and Aimee says she’s there to help with the wedding planning. Aimee excuses herself, she feels faint.

* Regina comes back to the main house at the ranch. Renato won’t let her enter the house until she promises they will meet together later.

* Federico and Renato meet in the office to discuss Federico backing off and not pressuring Regina to marry him. Federico is courteous. Then Renato is curious about Federico’s business or other interests with someone else at the ranch. Federico hints at something with someone. Renato is curious who it is? perhaps Aimee? Federico is offended by the insinuation and leaves.

* Regina meanwhile is in her bedroom, thought bubbling to herself. She is thinking about her conversation with the Padre and his wise advice for her to take off the habits and cloak and reinvent herself (video magic - one minute she has on the habit; the next she is ‘all dolled up’ as a victorian lady and admiring her image in the mirror.)

* General, Admiral and soldiers are pestering and interrogating Pedro, Santos, and the crew on the beach about Juan and his boat. They continue to play clueless to the questions. The troops finally leave. Santos, Pedro and the boy laugh to selves about the secret.

* Noel, Rod, Renato, Aimee and Leona have lunch together. The men start talking about business and about the mysterious boat and captain that sailed into port recently. Aimee is scared. Leona agrees with Rod that the pirates need to be dealt with as such. Aimee thinks they are the enemy. Rod agrees with her. Noel looks around and asks where Regina is? Rosie says she’s in her room. Aimee makes a comment about Regina sinking further and further into craziness. Rod believes it is true. Regina appears and apologizes for being late. Noel and Renato are delighted to see her. Rod wonders about her change in clothes - no habit, does this mean she has reconsidered the marriage proposal? Regina says no, not really. They ask her to help with Aimee and Renato’s wedding plans. Leona and Rod comment.

* Pedro, Santos and the crew visit Juan and Clemencia at the cave. They tell him the news about the soldiers searching for him. Juan takes it under advisement. Gabe enters and says he couldn’t find the doctor in town. Juan says he doesn’t need a doctor anymore. Clemencia asks Gabe for his name - he tells her - she smiles and mentions she knows about “Estrella”. Gabe wonders who told her. She says ‘a little birdie told her.’

* Jimena meanwhile is with Lulu, Fifi and Brigette. The threesome have a plan for Jimena and Gabriel to be together tonight.

* Federico visits Eloisa at the house. They flirt and then kiss briefly before they hear the echoes of Fulgencio’s voice in the hallway. They break it off and separate to different sides of the room. Fulgencio enters the room and tells Eloise to leave so the men can talk business. She leaves. Fulgencio tells Federico that he doesn’t like his wife to be alone with any other men. Federico informs him about observing Gabriel with a gypsy girl in the streets today. Fulgenio is intrigued.

* At the casino, Gabe arrives alone. He is eagerly looking around the room. He finds Marlene. She is happy to see him. She takes him over to a painting at tells her it’s Estrella. He’s confused. She tells him to look closely at the painting and find the mystery in it. He looks up at the eyes and starts talking to it. Estrella’s voice replies back to him. Marlene’s assistant is on stage introducing the main show -- the three ladies (Fifi, Lulu and Brigette) are belly dancing tonight. Rod, Noel and guys are watching intently. Marlene comes over to welcome them and talk. Rod mentions that he won’t lift a finger to help her if there’s any trouble. Raul, Noel and Federico laugh and make jokes about the mysterious captain and ship. Rod isn’t amused and calls the man a coward for not showing his face in town.

* Juan is in his cave - still driving himself crazy with memories of Aimee. He prays for help and salvation - he wants to be able to continue on with his life and his plans and to forget about her. He can’t deceive himself, who he is and what he is.

* Federico, Fulgencio and Noel continue to discuss the ship that sailed into port. Rod makes a comment and then leaves. Raul follows him and has a private conversation - Raul understands Rod’s point of view completely. Brigette (?) has a polite conversation with Rod and walks away. Rod and Raul comment on the beautiful girls. In another part of the room, Federico talks with Fifi (?) and they plan to meet later in a private room. Lulu walks towards Noel - Noel is nervous and stutters - they agree to sit and talk for awhile.

* As Noel holds the chair for Lulu, Fulgencio and Federico excuse themselves for the evening and leave.

* Outside at the carriage, Fulgencio wants to discuss with Federico how to get some money.

* At the cave, Federico and Fulgencio look around and are amazed; they can’t find anyone there. Juan is hiding in a dark tunnel, watching the men, and wondering how they found the cave - he thought it was a secret.

* Renato and Remiglio are out on horseback late at night. They find the shacks but no one around. They decide to call off the search for the night.

* As Renato rides close to the river rapids, he squints through the darkness and sees a man (our Tarzan) on the other side of the river, teetering on the rocks and falling into the river. The man floats downstream.

ADVANCE: The tension, intrigue and risks mount up for Juan and the Montes de Oca family. Clemencia predicts a huge catastrophe may occur that will completely destroy the family.

Buenos dias! Much belated thanks to Connine & Jardinera for last week's recaps and an on-time gracias to Capt. Jody for today's. As always, the recaps help clear the muddy waters of Vercruz & the happenings of our hapless cast & crew. Oof, what a bunch, eh?

Regina, the part time nun, will blossom into the boobalicious beauty we see in the opening credits. I'm expecting some truly horrific outfits between the 2 hermanas, though Aimee (if she's feeling a little faint & slightly preggers) may have to give up the cinched waist look & borrow Regina's sheets to cover up her indiscretions.

OK, the eyeballs behind the painting was just plain freaky. Reminded me of a bad Vincent Price horror movie.

Belly dancing at the casino, eh? Totally adds to the story & is in no way, shape, or form an instance of gratuitous, half-clad sexy stuff. So when do the female viewers get a little undressed Renato or Gabe, gyrating in the fields? C'mon...equal time!!!!!

I know there's more than a few EY fans out there & I don't mean to dis those who love him but this role is truly awful. EY should take a vow to NEVER play another character named Juan ever again. Nunca mas!

Maggarita
:-/

Thank you, Jody!

Maggarita: don't worry we'll get half-naked Renato and Gabe later.

"but this role is truly awful"

I have to agree that his cave/fever scenes were unbearably ridiculous. However, after the change of directors the acting will get better and there will be less embarassing scenes.

These Juans... FELS Juan was dumb as a doorknob, but he was very loyal, patient and kind to his nina and brothers. This Juan's more intelligent and foxy, but he's a selfish, stubborn macho and in spite of his education he insists to be Tarzan, Sandokan and Fabio at the same time.
Nevertheless, I like this character. He's got great moments, especially when he's with Gabe or Jimena and acts like a father figure. It's a shame that he's written being so incoherent.

Doctorcito's so sweet. Regi, you should choose him.

Santa Regina's new outfit is pretty. The family members' faces were priceless.

Thanks for the recap Jody. I don't care if Juan just stands there. I thin he's awesome. I think it is the smile. Haven't had a chance to watch this episode yet. Can't wait to see Regina without that terrible bedsheet.

Thanks for the recap, Jody; I will enjoy it.

I was just going say that I enjoyed Juan's cave scene last night. It's true it's come to be stereotypical of EY lately, unfortunately.

But I looked beyond that and saw the Juan who was beset by fever and pain of both physical and emotional kinds.

I thought Lalo did a good job and that it was a chance to act. He hasn't had many scenes at all recently, which I find a bit frustrating.

Frankly, I had been wondering why he wasn't dead sick and laid out with infection, after that knife point was broken off in his leg.

The wound was bad enough in the first place, not to mention tetanus.

"He hasn't had many scenes at all recently, which I find a bit frustrating."

Yes, I don't like this tendency either.

Background informations (without spoilers):
The ratings were low in the first months, and the creators were very worried about it. They realized that the viewers liked Jime and Gabe, and decided to give them more screentime.
This didn't help much though, the ratings started to rise only when the story of Juan and Regina became more interesting.

Aribeth, that is interesting. Well, I am looking forward to the story of Juan and Regina; I love the way Juan looks at Regina in the flashback and segue screens. Whoo. I want that to happen.

I much appreciated your recap!

I would like to know just who were Renato and Remiglio looking for? I totally didn't get that part. Also i enjoyed the way Regina was "manning up" at the lunch table - returning Aimee's look for look! Finally Juan and Renato reunite. I am expecting fireworks as a result of this!

Thanks for an excellent recap, Capitana Jody!

Federico really has it pretty good. He has something going with 3 blondes. Rod's trying to fix him up with Regina, which would mean lots of money. He's had a dalliance with Fifi (whom he knows as Josefina), the working girl with the low, sultry voice, and she's ready for more. And he also has something going with Eloisa, Fulgencio's wife. For a guy with no money, and (to me) isn't even that good-looking, he's doing great. Unfortunately for him, he could get in trouble with Fulgencio, Rodrigo, and a few other guys if his secrets came out.

Gabe remarked that Jimena's hands were identical to "Estrella's". One would think he'd also recognize the eyes, and put two and two together, but I guess not.

I liked when Federico questioned Renato, what were you doing down by the caves? Renato shot back, what were YOU doing there. Feddy didn't answer, and Renato probably finds this suspicious.

I think Fulgencio told Feddy another shipment of arms was coming in (or maybe money for the arms they've been stashing).

Juan's fiebre from FELS has returned.

The big guy has a temper

http://www.peopleenespanol.com/pespanol/articles/0,22490,1978098,00.html

I guess it's going to be deleted, but one short response: I always said that he's not a nice guy. He definitely has a bad temper. But being a celebrity isn't easy: no matter how nastily fans, journalists or paparazzis act, if a celeb strikes back literally or orally, he/she'll be condemned for the rest of his/her life.
Plus he must've been fustrated after the 8 months of trashing and hate he received for accepting this role. Which was obviously an unwise decision, and we might say he asked for it, but the cruel crusade against the actors of this production was sickening.

From what he said the other day, I think that Noel is buying Rodrigo out of the farm. Those sacks of money would be Noel's payment for Renato's worker housing project. And IIRC, that money was also at least part of Noel's share in the gentlemen's association. If Noel's out of the association, that might be important; and it might be a factor later on that Rodrigo is bought out of the farm, if the families are at odds.

We still have to see the repercussions of Aimee telling Leonarda about Regina's love for Renato; that should be interesting. They just left that hanging, and I can't figure what motivated Aimee to blurt that out. At any rate, now Leonarda knows -- and would she be the one to reveal it to her son? Leonarda doesn't like Regina, so she'd probably keep it from Renato. And now Leonarda's worried Aimee will be a problem for him, too. Nobody good enough for her boy.

Wow, I think Fulgencio might be the one to do away with Federico, if something unfortunate ever happens to Federico. His wife, Eloísa, looks to be trouble. Later on, Federico is not too quick on his feet; he couldn't figure out when he braced Renato with having seen him on the beach, that Renato was going to ask him what he himself was doing there. And what a lame excuse Federico dredged up, that he was going to meet someone. Renato wouldn't forget that, should it come up again.

So, Clemencia is blaming all Juan's distress on Aimee, saying she has no heart. I wonder how that feeling will come into play later on.

Finally they show a good family lunch together; in some novelas they are eating all the time -- but not this one, unfortunately. Anyway, Rodrigo pretends he doesn't know a ship was attacked, so it seems his losses on that venture are indeed secret. He doesn't want anyone to know he lost a lot of money. Noel says no one would reveal the name of the owner or what the cargo was.

Earlier at the club, Rodrigo told the boyz that they should maybe start having escorts for their shipments. This could make life a lot harder for our pirate friends. They've been lucky up till now; but they could have some gigantic failure that lands them in prison. There's always prison in telenovelas. Also Raúl did know about the shipment being lost and consoled Rodrigo as a confident aside from the others. Rodrigo trusts him.

When Rodrigo warns Marlene about who she lets into her place of business (i.e., Juan) -- and when Raúl sticks up for Rodrigo -- Fulgencio gets suspicious why Raúl would care so much that their enemy might have left the country. So, that could be the first nail in Raúl's coffin as a spy. Fulgencio could be one of those characters that winds up killing a lot of people off. Rodrigo once again calls Juan a coward for running off; I have a feeling Rodrigo's going to underestimate Juan much to his own detriment.

Ha! Rodrigo's take on women is pretty good. Better to handle them slowly or they'll own you; he says he's never letting that happen again. This piques Raúl's interest as to what woman would have done that to Rodrigo, but Rodrigo's mum on that topic. I'm interested to hear what Lulu and Noel have to talk about.

Yeah, Fulgencio does tell Federico there's going to be another arms shipment -- and I think he said it's the ideal time to move money, too. When the two of them head out to the caves, Juan finds out someone else is using them and escapes out the back way, where Renato can rescue him from the raging cataract. I think Renato and Remigio were inspecting the hut construction to make sure it was good enough to withstand the storm.

It's a great summary (again), Jeri. :) I enjoy reading them.

Loved the recap Jody. I too am looking forward to Juan and Regina's story. I loved the looks Juan gives her too. She intrigues him and she's spunky. I'm watching this show purely for entertainment although there are moments of unintentional humor, I still love watching this show and EY and his adorable smile.

Thanks for the link Variopinta. Does anyone think a subscription to People in espanol (or something similar) would be helpful to learn more Spanish?

I wonder if Rodrigo's "wife" in Europe will come into play?

Connie: imho it'd surely be helpful. I often read Mexican forums (about telenovelas and movies), even they helped me to learn.

Jeri, Pirate Babe: the same here. I never understood people who said there's no chemistry between J and R. I thought: are we watching the same telenovela? :)

Jody, thank you for the fabulous recap. Your all encompassing details are truly appreciated. I loved your synopsis of Regina's conversation with her priest and the fact he encouraged her to "become a new and improved “Regina Montes de Oca”.
Excellent!

I like the subtle blossoming of Regina's character. She's getting more assertive and although her protests come out as more of a squeek than a roar, at least she isn't suffering in silence too much (except of course for her suffering (except of course for her unrequited love for Renato).

I can only imagine being the recipient of an EY smile or stare. He seems to look at his leading ladies as though they are the only thing that exists, that he is blind to everyone and everything else going on around him. Sigh. I think he and Regina will be combustible once they get together.

Jeri, loved your comments (as always). You always bring such perception.

Diana

Thanks for the great recap, Jody! :)

I hope they don't make Renato into a "bad" character. I sense there will be some conflict between Renato and Juan but don't think he will truly turn to the dark side. We've sure got quite a few cuties in this show but the line forms behind EY. 8(:P

Aribeth and Diane, you're welcome. :-) I always enjoy looking for clues of how things will work out.

Connie, regarding Rodrigo's paramour in Spain -- did he promise her he'd bring her to Mexico one day? How many years ago was that?

Gracias, Jody, and a belated Gracias to Jardinera, Cheryl, and Connie. I've been several days behind in keeping up with the recaps, but thankfully, the snark, though preservative-free, keeps well.

I hadn't heard from anyone on subbing for tonight, so Mr. 5ft has volunteered to be my backup. Or I might get home early enough from rehearsal and audition, who knows! Either way, I'm looking forward to something actually happening, although I know how the promo monkeys like to mess with me.

Thank you for the recap Captain Jodie.

Aribeth I think the biggest mistake this show had was the extention of episodes. The love story is the reason people watch, that's why the highest peaks in audience in the first episodes were Jimena and Gabriel, but they are not the main couple so there wasn't much more they could do. I think they extended the part with Juan's involvement with Aimée because of how insanely popular Aimée from '93 was but what works the most in this version is the Regina character while the Aimée one was very onedimentional and her relationship with Juan has no emotional resonance with the audience.

The internet has been more vicious with the actors than any other media. The one who has gotten the biggest negative reaction was Yañez. People seem to adore Christian De La Fuente and they still follow and cheer for La Chule (Aracely Arámbula), Angelique Boyer and Sebastián Zurita are always well talk about so I think those actors will come unscathed from all this strong rejection against the novela and all the more seasoned actors will keep getting jobs.

Jarocha

Jarocha: I didn't want to talk about the extension because it'd lead to spreading spoilers, but I totally agree with you. I've never seen before a telenovela so slow like this one.
However, the last three months were worth waiting for.

As I said before, I understand the anger and the disappointment of the fans, I can sympathize with their protective behaviour over their beloved telenovela and its memorable cast, and I agree with many criticisms. But this endless war was depressing, and many fans' behaviour was unnecessary impolite towards not only the actors but the TN's viewers, too.

Yes, CDLF, Boyer and Zurita gained many fans and much recognition, because they acted well and their characters were well written. I'm very happy for them, they deserve the praising.
I wasn't an Aracely fan before, but I fell in love with her. However, imho she is almost as hated for this novela as EY.

As for EY: I like his acting - except the octopus killing, diaper wearing, shouting, I am Juan del Diablo, venganzaaaaaaa!!! scenes. :)) I enjoy watching his participation in this novela (yep, fangirl), but he shouldn't have accepted this role, because it almost killed his career. I say almost, because he'll probably get important roles later. He should accustom himself to the antagonist/best friend/daddy roles.

Why is everyone so upset with Juan? I think he's doing ok. I like his character even if he is just a little silly.

Jeri, you know Rod's love will have to show up and make trouble sooner or later. That does seem like ages ago though.

Connie, now that you mention it, I can't think of any reason they would have inserted her in there if she weren't going to show up again.

After EY winning best actor in 2007 and 2008, I would personally be surprised if after this hiccup he would be relegated to side roles suddenly.

He actually is quite a good actor; and as we mentioned before, I don't see any reason he couldn't star in stories like César Évora in La Madrastra or Amor/Odio.

Connie:
They're upset because Eduardo Palomo's acting in CS93 was so memorable that he became a pop culture icon. Like Mr. Darcy. :)

I'm not a huge fan of CS93's love story, but I acknowledge that his JDD is one of the best telenovela protagonists ever. He wasn't the handsomest guy ever, when I first saw his pictures I didn't understand why women loved him so much. But when I watched CS I understood it - his JDD was fierce, tempestuous, elegant, noble, kind, feminine but strong, witty... Awesome. Unreplaceable.

And he died tragically young in 2004, so there's some Heath Ledgerism in the picture, too.

Then Mejía decided to give this role to an overaged man. Who looks younger than his age, and isn't a bad actor at all, but this casting choice made the Hell break loose. The fans of the '93 version were raging.
The unnecessary hair extensions, the diapers and the exaggerated fever/venganzaaa scenes didn't helped either.
The only sad thing is that after a while no matter what the character did or how EY acted, he was trashed.

Thank you Jeri for filling in the important details of the conversations. I truly appreciate it.

Jody :)

Unreplaceable -> irreplaceable
(And I guess there're are many other grammar mistakes in my comment. :-))

Jeri:
"he couldn't star in stories like César Évora in La Madrastra or Amor/Odio"

I agree. Or like René Stickler in Piel de otono. Or Andrés Garcia in El privilegio de amar.
But no more Mejías, por favor. I want to see him in an Estrada, Carlos Moreno or Nicandro Díaz again. Or in a Cuaohtémoc Blanco-novela like Mi pecado (Francisco Gattorno), Canaveral de pasiones (Leonardo Daniel) and El manantial.

People en español is easy reading, a subscription is cheap & you always learn some new words. Plus you see some of our favorites.

Jody, you're welcome; I like to look for clues. One of the great things about Caray is no spoilers, which are clue killers. Some people think novelas have no dramatic structure, but they do; so it can be done.

I see, so again they were comparing him to the first Juan. I wish people wouldn't do that and just accept it for what it is.

I think I'll get a subscription to People then. I think it would be fun reading.

I don't really think Aracely has gotten it as bad as EY. In forums like the Univision one and youtube yes but with the people in real life and tv shows I don't see the same attitude they have with EY. Here in Veracruz especially, there's a a big curiosity to meet "La Chule", even my best friend who is a male and doesn't watch many novelas was all crazy about getting to see her during location. She is easily the most popular between the poeple here since according to my friend she is "just incredibly gorgeous" in person.

I've liked her since I saw her in Cañaveral de Pasiones. I thought she would get far and I was right, now she just needs to find better projects for her image.

Jarocha

Aribeth: Did you know apparently there's been some talks to remake Cañaveral? Various producers have shown interest. That's my own personal CS. My classic. In Jaqueline Bracamontes's words: "Tengo miedo".
