Dinero #119 & #120, 5/28/10: Vicky Suffers Temporary Deafness and Rafa Suffers Possibly Terminal Jealousy

Quintana turns the charm on for Rosario, who melts for his kind words. He thinks he has Rosario in the palm of his hand.

Jaime gives his nightmare bride a heads up that Rafa is on his way to break up with her. In a burst of perfect timing, Rafa knocks on the door. Vicky refuses to answer it and clutches her ears like a child when Rafa tries to talk to her. “La, la, la! I can’t hear you!” She hides in her room to avoid him.

Rafa tells Don Gaston and the hermanos about Vicky’s misconduct involving Rafa’s job. “I work hard with several important clients. She calls nonstop! I have reached the limit. My boss could throw me out for this.” The hermanos want to rip Rafa’s head off regardless but Don Gaston sides with Rafa. Eavesdropping Vicky is horrified. Gaston understands Rafa’s frustration and tells Rafa he will handle Vicky. “She won’t bother you again.” Rafa is surprised how well this talk went, considering he is leaving without any knife wounds or significant appendages missing.

Rosario coxes a confession out of Ale: her relationship with Marco is over. Rosario immediately thinks it’s because of Rafa and hits the roof. A fiesta photo falls off the nightstand but Ale quickly stashes it away before Rosario can ask too many questions.

Marco is in a bad way when Chavez pays a visit. Ale dumped him and he’s been nursing the whisky ever since. Marco vows to kill Rafa. He cries that he loves Ale and can’t live without her. Chavez says it’s the whisky talking but Marco swears he does love Ale and can’t stand to lose her. Chavez rallies behind Marco to give him the courage to steal Ale back from Rafa.

Both Rafa and Ale fall asleep with images of tender kisses and heart monitors in their heads. Rafa calls the next morning but Ale hangs up and goes back to sleep. Rafa lays the law down for Julieta about the rules for her trip. Julieta promises to behave and asks how things went with VVV. He relays Vicky’s hysterics and has no doubt he did the right thing by breaking up with her.

Gaston and hermanos are angry Vicky is too busy moping around the house to make breakfast. Her padre lays into her. “Young lady, you have to learn to listen and to respect others.” Vicky refuses to believe she and Rafa broke up because “she never heard it”. VVV is sure her family is just making it up. Her pajarito would never break up with her, understand?! (The girl is steps away from needing a strait jacket.)

Trapito asks Doña Arcadia for the opportunity to become a salesman. She tells him to ask Beltran but he never takes Trapito seriously. She’ll think about putting a word in with Beltran for him. Trapito leaves happily but Arcadia is a bit frustrated with having to be a psychologist for all the employees.

Ale decides to skip breakfast in favor of going to the beauty salon. She needs to look her best for a business trip to Cocoyoc. Jorge doesn’t want her to go alone and demands Marco go with her. Rosario covers for Ale and promises to call him.

Meanwhile, Marco’s pity party is going fabulously. Chavez tells him to snap out of it so he can earn the hacienda and the woman back.

Rafa is concerned when Ale still hasn’t showed up for work but Susana assures him everything is fine. The Siglo is a pit of tension when Ramirez arrives late because of a doctor’s appointment to check out his eye. The daily business meeting kicks off without Ale; she is currently at a very regal estate in Estado de Morelos.

Ramirez promises to make up for his poor sales despite his handicap. Rosaura falls apart during the meeting because she has separated from her husband. She has no money and no place to live. Don Bebe comforts Rosaura and Rafa excuses her from the meeting. Rafa strikes up the Siglo anthem to boost everyone's morale.

Vicky stops by Rafa’s house to talk to Leonor, who VVV insists on calling ‘suegra’ (mother-in-law). Leonor is obviously uncomfortable but Vicky needs to pout to someone about her troubles. She takes off in a jealous snit when she finds out Jaime went on a trip with Julieta.

Unsuspecting Jaime and Julieta arrive at the cabin in the woods and get a key from the gatekeeper. Jaime asks when her classmates are arriving but Julieta admits no one else is coming. She wanted some privacy with her novio for once. Jaime is mortified what would happen if Rafa found out but Julieta just squeezes closer to him.

Marian gives the Siglo a call for Rafa. She wants to finish what they started the day before (and probably not just the business contract by the smirk on her face). Susana avoids telling Rafa why Ale won’t be at work but eventually lets him know Ale is in Cocoyoc. Rafa looks less than pleased by this news and Susana sees him sneak out of the office a little later.

The General pulls Rosaura aside for a little girl talk. Pepeto boasts he is the reason Rosaura broke up with her husband and Bebe scolds him for being so shameless. Rosaura is embarrassed that a woman of her stature could have kissed a poor guy like Pepeto. She feels unfaithful and undependable and bemoans her lack of money. Rosaura calls her mother for help but she obviously offers no sympathy. “You are more a mother for Gabriel than your own daughter.”

Don Bebe admires Doña Aracdia’s office and gets along quite well with her. He regrets having to ask for a raise but he badly needs it. He wants 50% but leaves with only a 3% increase.

Ale gets a warm bear hug from an attractive guy named Guillermo ‘Memo’ Soler. They have lunch together and we find out he is a salesman from Pittsburgh. He was sent back to Mexico by his company for business. They flirt and chat lightheartedly. Ale tells him about her turbulent relationship with Marco and all the problems with the hacienda. Guillermo thinks the poor guy must be distraught without Ale. He asks if there is anyone else in her life. He claims to see it in her eyes. “Who is the victim?” Ale says she is the only victim in the relationship.

Ramriez is greeted by none other than Zetina, our human kickball. He is desperate for work and, under the impression that Marino is the boss, grovels to him for a job. Marino bites his head off but gets served a slice of humble pie when Ramirez says he is through handling all of Marino’s women and children. It’s his problem now.

Zetina turns to Susana for help because he wants to plead his case to Ale but she is, of course, out of town. Zetina can’t ever catch a break, pobre hombre.

If we thought Ale was demanding at work, she looks harmless compared to Carmela. She chews out an associate and shouts at her assistant. Chavez and Marco are next but Marco is hesitant. As soon as Carmela catches a glimpse of Marco, you can almost see the little valentine hearts floating above her head. She invites Marco to sit, slowly so she can admire the goods.

Carmela, who likes referring to herself in the third person, is already wise to Marco’s problem: the creditors won’t let him take over the hacienda and they have too much debt to fight it. Now they’ve come to Carmela to sort everything out. It’s a good thing the Alvarez del Castillo family doesn’t know what they’ve done or else they would be prisoners in a heartbeat. Carmela places Marco’s hand on her thigh while he looks terrified.

Later, Marco is outraged Carmela is asking for 10% as payment but she is shrewd as they come. “How much do you value your freedom and your prestige?” Carmela is thrilled to hear Marco is single and promises he will stay a free man as long as he does what she advises. She threatens to up the percentage to 15 and call the papers about the scam Chavez and Marco have been running if they don’t accept.

Carmela, however, gives them one other option. She makes Chavez leave the room and offers to lower her rate to 5%, if Marco will pay the difference in other ways. Cougar Carmela whispers in Marco’s ear. Whatever she said was dirty enough to nearly knock Marco off his feet.

Marian gives Rafa a call. “Is it just me or are you standing me up?” Rafa apologizes but he has some important business out of town. Marian, ever direct, asks if he is avoiding her proposition. “I thought you were a gentleman but now I see you aren’t. Should I cancel our proposition?” Of course Rafa doesn’t want that and promises to make a date with her soon to seal the deal.

Jaime and Julieta sit on the cabin porch and are interrupted by a call from Vicky. Jamie, ever the whipping boy, answers the call to Julieta’s frustration. Vicky lays the guilt on thick. “How could you disappear with Julieta and leave me and your child alone? Come back this minute. I need you. We need you.” *boo hoo, boo hoo* Julieta grabs the phone away from Jaime and forces him to hang up.

Rafa is overjoyed to find Ale’s car out front of the hotel. An employee stops him but Rafa talks his way inside. The first thing he sees is Ale sitting with Guillermo. Meanwhile, Guillermo has pulled more information out of Ale about Rafa. “He is a hard worker and has a nose for business.” Guillermo doesn’t seem very impressed when Ale starts listing some of Rafa's low class tastes. He invites Ale to stay the night in his room and she readily agrees. Rafa watches Ale hug Guillermo and finds out her luggage is being taken into the guy’s room.

Ale heads into the bathroom while Guillermo lounges on the bed. Rafa barges into the room, ready to clock Guillermo when Ale walks out. “Medina, qué hace aquí?!”

Avances: Marco seethes about Rafa and Ale. Rafa pushes Guillermo into the pool.

Flores, what a speedy and complete recap. I didn't see these episodes so am dependent on the kindness of our
recappers to fill me in. Hope to track down the scenes of Vicky ignoring Rafa trying to end it and also the ones of Rafa "stalking" Ale. Thanks again, glad I didn't miss a beso!

Excellent recap Flores. I abandoned ship after Rafa blew his business appointment with Marian Celeste. For gawdsakes, seal the business deal before you go wandering off in a jealous fugue, man!

Loved your quip about Rafa escaping without "losing any significant appendages" and Zetina as our "human kickball". The latter is sooooo depressing.

The recap was way better than the episode. This one was quite a downer after our lovely hospital besos.

I quit watching at the same time, JudyB! This was certainly a letdown night. The previews for Monday don't sound all that hot, either.

Flores, thanks for your great recap. Did you get why Rosaura and her husband separated? Was it because she told him about Pepito and he kicked her out?

Thanks everyone for the caption suggestions. Our tv does have captions but you physically have to do something in the back before it will work, and you have to repeat that procedure to turn it off. It's a big pain in the neck so I just try to do without. Not too successfully, I might add, but thankfully I can read this website to find out what I've missed.

Mil in NC

Nil in NC...your tv sounds similar to mine. I have to push buttons in a little control panel (which at least is in the front of the set) but I don't mind having them on all the time because for basketball and football, I watch in the other room.

As I understood it, she didn't tell hubby about Pepeto, but talked in general about their marriage having run aground, gone adrift etc. Clearly though she's feeling very horrified about making out with a naco, soooo against her upper class principles. Presumeably she is another one of the folks who is going to have to grow up and lose her upper-caste snobbishness before finding True Happiness in Life.

Flores, Nice job. I have to agree with Judy, I wasn't paying much attention last night either so it was good to have such detailed descriptions. Loved your Zetina line "the human kickball". He is a bit of a sad sack.

I am not to keen on the whole Dona Arcadia scenes. But since Vivis nice insight the other day, I am trying to pay more attention.

I have to praise the actor who plays Marco. He was doing such a great job at "pretending to be in love with Ale." We all made comments to the fact that if we didn't know he was pretending we would swear he was in love with her. It was fun to see that he actually is in love with her. Although is little self awareness is a bit too late.

And the Carmela scene. We all thought he had his hands full with Karen. This should be quite fun.
That was the funniest scene last night. His squinched up face when she was telling him what she wanted was priceless.

I did a quick little calulation last night. We have been doing doubles since April 26 and we have covered 50 chapters.(It will be 52 when all is said and done on Monday). Wow. We have covered a lot of territory in such a short time. And we are all still here. Yea!!!

Mil in NC, That's too bad about your captions. At least I can change mine on my remote control. I actually pretty much leave them on all the time, even on the English channels. I am one of those people who comprehend better when I read something as opposed to hearing it. Never acquired very good listening skills.

I DID love the Carmela scenes, Pata. Nice to see a woman play a "heavy" and and man-eating tiger. Also funny to see Chavez' and Marcos' reactions to this scary lady. Will Marcos suffer a "fate worse than death"? We shall see. Turn about's fair play.

Thanks for great recap Flores. I wasn't too thrilled at how it ended. I don't really like to see our Rafa getting so physical. I agree with Judy, recap much better than the episodes. :)

I think Chavez might just have been willing to take Marco's place with Cougar Carmela. She is more than just a little scary. She liked Marco, that's for sure. I wonder how far he will end up going? Boy, everyone knows about Marco and Chavez now and are trying to get their little piece of the action.

I don't know if Vicky will be calmed down any or not. She never really got the talk for papa. She may just have to con Jaime into marrying her. :)
Don Gaston respects Rafa a lot more now that he is trying to work hard and is doing well. He listens to him now. Not so much at the beginning of the show.

Poor Jaime, all these women want is to take advantage of him. They want his body and not his mind.

Pata, still not sure how much Marco really loves Ale or how much just not getting what he wants. But then again, you can't help but love Ale.. unless you happen to work for her.

Count me in into the group who thinks the recap was better than the episodes. Thank you so much Flores. I was almost yelling "Go back to work Rafa!".

One thing I was happy about was Rosaura leaving her husband. From what I understood they had they differences for a while, but what drove her away at the end was guilt that she kissed another man.

Flores- Great recap of episodes that brought some cringe-worthy moments, but also some really funny ones. I was lol when Marco was given an indecent proposal by Carmela. This is going to be fun to watch.

Well, we all knew that there would have to be a reason why Ale and Rafa would be mad at each other for a while after our lovely kissing scenes, since now he knows she wasn't trying to kick his family out of their home, and she knows he didn't spread rumors about her. It's going to be Rafa's boorish jealousy fit- attacking her friend. Ale's going to be hopping mad. I don't think Rafa has anything to worry about with Guillermo though. My guess is that he's gay. I got that impression from how comfortable Ale was telling him all her secrets, the fact that they used to be roommates and she felt so comfortable taking a shower and staying in his room, the fact that he and his family are on the outs, and also a word that he said when he described the people in PA- discreet. That was a real red flag code word for me. I could be wrong though.

Great recap, Foresazul. I am disappointed in Rafa. At times he seems to have matured so much as a professional person. And he has almost straightened out his life with V V V. At least, he made the attempt. But now, he lets jealousy over ride his role as head of sales. He didn't need to go and spy on Ale. As Judy said, close the deal with Marian first.

However, everything looks pretty suspicious to Rafa. He over reacts and Ale will breakup for awhile due this misunderstanding as Vivi has mentioned. Back to square one, I guess.

GinCA

Vivi, I had the same idea about Guillermo. It just seemed unlike Ale to agree to spend the night in a man's room when she had such a fit about sharing a room with Rafa. She must know there isn't any temptation for him.

I was upset with Rafa too. He completely blew off his responsibility with Marian to go play the jealous brute. It isn't going to win him any friends, that's for sure.

I so want Rafa to give Zetina a job. The poor guy deserves a chance to learn how to stand up for himself. Maybe Doña Arcadia can help him grow a spine.

Thanks for the great recap Flores! I agree that these episodes were a let-down after the fabulous hospital kisses. But I did find it very amusing how terrified Marco was of Carmela. And Vicky's craziness is always hilarious!

Vivi, Flores...good for you. I didn't pick up the gay vibe at all, but you have to be right. That explains everything. Guess I'm so used to gay being played in such a non PC flouncing manner on these telenovelas that I didn't pick up on it.

Great recap, thank you so much!

There is one point that I may have misunderstood. I thought that Susana told Medina that Ale had broken up with Marco -- and that's why Rafa took off for Cocoyoc: because Ale was now free and he could woo her! Is that right or did I misinterpret?

Yes, Bathos...you're right. Susana did tell Rafa that. So it could have been amorous excitement rather than jealousy (until he spotted her with that fellow). Whatever.... my Protestant work ethic went into overdrive and I kept saying, seal the business deal with Marian first, you doofus!

Bathos, I want to agree with you completely. This makes our Rafa less of a jerk. I think that when Rafa heard that Ale had broken up with Marco after he thinks he has broken up with Vicky, his desire to see Ale after the hospital kisses was overwhelming. Even though he was supposed to be giving Ale some space to think, I believe it was his ardor he couldn't restrain, not his jealousy.

That was my impression -- the poor guy thought "Now we're both single, I'm going to go get her!" and then was confronted with Ale and Guillermo.

I enjoy this site very much. Props to all recappers -- thanks for your service!

Flores, what a wonderful recap! I really enjoyed it, not only did you boil everything down to its essence, you put in all sorts of funny observations, about Vicky, about Carmela, etc. You have a sharp eye for details and a sharp wit to comment on them. Thanks for making it all come to life.

One minor detail is that Carmela started with 10%, raised to 15%, then said she'd settle for 12.5% if Marco gave her what she craved. She's man hungry, but not enough to go down to 5%!

Vivi, you're a genius for spotting that Guillermo must be gay. If you're right, isn't Rafa gonna have egg on his face when he finds out!

If Trapito gets a job as a salesman, he's going to have to change his name. Trapito comes from trapo, which is a rag or cloth. So he'll have to call himself Vendadito!

I agree, I too think that Ale's friend is gay, and Rafa is going to feel really stupid when he finds out.
Who knows, it could be that Rafa & Ale get some ALONE time that they very much need.
I don't think that VVV is steps away from a streight jacket, she needs it NOW!!
Have a Great Memorial Day All!!
Great recap!

Flores thanks for the recap. I have to echo others comments about the recap being much better than the episode. Thanks to you, Vivi, and Kat suggesting Memo was gay as I picked up on it also.

Everyone have a wonderful Memorial Day!

yikes, isn't there any safe place to watch these online? I'm home now and wanting to catch up but they don't seem to be on youtube, egads! Ideas?

Melinama...Hombre and Carlos have both watched episodes of Gancho on iReel. I don't know if that's still operational. I have never used it. But it's worth a try. It's so unfortunate that Televis is wiping out these youtube episodes as soon as they're up.

Floresdeazul,

Excellent recap. Well-crafted, humorous, and nicely detailed. I'm still seeing new (for me) funny stuff. I'd not heard the Siglo hymn before, so was surprised by that. Very funny, though I can't imagine a car dealership having employees sing an anthem.

I also suspected that G'mo is gay. I could not imagine Ale agreeing to share a room with zero hesitation, otherwise. Also, he just didn't seem as though he had any interest in romance with her.

Poor Marco. Carmela is just what he needs on top of all his other problems. I wonder if he'll be needing those green pills? That'd be fun.

Melinama,

I've not been able to find a source on line for this show.

Carlos
