Corazón Salvaje WED 2010-06-23: Diary of a Mad near-Housewife
Lightheaded from the revelation that Regina loved him, Renato turns rapidly to the front of her diary and earnestly reads from the start. Today she begins this diary to confess her biggest secret, she says. With book in hand, Renato rises from the bedside, eyes glued to the text.
She loves Renato with all of her heart! I've loved him since I was a girl, she admits. Our games, his patience and sweet disposition filled her with happiness, she says. Renato smiles, remembering. But that's why her father's decision that they study in Europe was so painful, she continues. Renato flips the page anxiously.
Regina knew she would miss Renato every moment; but one bright spot in all the sadness came when Renato gave the girls their medallions, to keep them safe while away -- and keep them thinking of each other. Renato looks up from the distant shared memory, melancholy, possibly noting that Aimee gave her medallion away.
Since that moment, Regina continues, she always carried the medal; we see a vision of her holding it now like the precious keepsake it is. She wanted to be wearing it when they returned one day, to show him that she never forgot him. Renato looks up again in wonder and pleasure, realizing that Regina truly loved him; how could he never have known?
Just then Clemencia knocks at the bedroom door, and she enters, concerned and offering to bring him something since he's been locked up there all day. Renato is kind to her but gently backs her out into the hall, insisting he doesn't want anything except to be left alone. He turns and locks the door, with Clemencia begging to be let in.
Back in town on the street, where Noel (looking very dashing) and Lulu have settled on a bench to talk, Noel asks her how her relationship is working out. She says it's going pretty well; that before Remigio left town, he stopped by to discuss their getting married upon his return!
Noel, surprised, asks guardedly if she doesn't intend to be frank with Remigio beforehand? But Lulu isn't sure; she's anxious that if she does, he'll never forgive her. Noel points out that she really shouldn't marry him without saying anything, though.
He counsels her pointedly: Truth above all, Lulu. He gestures with a book he's carrying and says he was just going to read something by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a very beautiful poem (Hombres necios) about men who judge and accuse women. Noel begins in his gruff whisper:
Silly, you men -- so very adept
at wrongly faulting womankind,
not seeing you're alone to blame
for faults you plant in woman's mind.
After you've won by urgent plea
the right to tarnish her good name,
you still expect her to behave -—
you, that coaxed her into shame.
Lulu pays rapt attention, and Noel continues reciting from memory, gazing into her eyes; but behind a pillar some distance away, Rodrigo peaks at the two of them in surprise and makes a nasty remark about Noel being with that slut. Back on the park bench, Lulu has been moved by the poem and thinks she should tell Remigio the truth. Noel tells Lulu that in his experience, feelings -- especially love -- need to be born in honesty in order to grow strong.
In the girls' bedroom, Renato continues reading Regina's diary. She tells him there that in all the years in school in Europe, she never stopped thinking about him and dreamed about returning. And she was sure he would be thinking about her, too, in the same way.
When Renato reads Regina say she couldn't marry anyone but him, he looks up and concludes sorrowfully in tears that he was her "secret love," for whom she endured scorn and sacrifice. Regina never worried about Rodrigo's shipboard plan to marry her off to Federico, she says; because she was sure when Renato and she were reunited, he would love her, too.
But instead he greeted her cooly, and for the first time she was afraid. Renato holds the diary at his side and paces the rug, rubbing his face, and whispers: She was afraid, because from the moment he saw Aimee, he only had eyes for her! Reading again, Renato is astonished to learn that despite their friendship, Regina could only bring herself to confess her secret to Clemencia. Clemencia? he asks himself. Clemencia knew!
Across the hall, Clemencia bursts into Leonarda's bedroom in alarm. Leonarda's very testy with a headache, until she hears Renato's locked himself in and won't budge. In the girls' room, Renato now is understanding what Clemencia said: he never really knew Regina! Outside in the hall, when Leonarda rattles the doorknob and pleads to no avail, the two women set off to find Aimee to see what she can do.
Back at the diary, Renato reads that awful passage where he breaks Regina's heart by confessing his ardor and love for Aimee -- and enlists her to help him! How she must have suffered, he says sorrowfully. But since she only wanted him to be happy, she agreed and kept silent, Regina says. Of all the women, it had to be her sister! Aimee...he repeats.
Meanwhile, Leonarda and Clemencia try to drag some answers out of Aimee in her room, but she's at a loss. Leonarda's sure she's at fault and insists she find out what's wrong with Renato. He's up to the part where Regina explains her resistance to marrying anyone who is not him and preference to become a nun rather than marry without love.
Renato ponders the awful truth that he was the reason Regina went to the convent and sits weeping for her suffering. The diary tells him that her solitude there only made her focus on her misery. Rising, Renato stumbles around, cursing himself for an idiot, remembering she tried to tell him she loved him -- and he said nothing! His love for Aimee made him blind -- blind and crazy! he laments wearily.
Outside the door, all three women are knocking; and when he hears Aimee, he orders angrily that she go to their chamber and not move a muscle! They have some serious talking to do. Leonarda turns to her and grimly accuses that whatever she's done, it'd better not be serious.
Before Renato leaves the room, he reads where no matter how she tried, Regina could not forget him -- and how Aimee knew and taunted her cruelly. Renato muses regretfully how Aimee was always capricious and tyrannical. He learns his own father knew Regina's secret, having been her confidant when in disgrace, and is distraught to learn she only planned to marry Federico due to Rodrigo's insistence.
At Fulgencio's, Servando tries desperately to convince him no one knows what happened to Jimena or where she is; but Fulgencio doesn't believe him and won't take no for an answer. If Servando doesn't want to wind up dead, he'd better produce the girl. Branko meets Gabriel on the beach, both having no luck. Gabriel insists Griselda is at the bottom of Jimena's disappearance and says Branko better believe him and deal with her.
On the Luzbel, Regina and Juan are on deck, with Juan at the wheel. When she asks for Remigio, she learns Remigio is off duty and that they all take their turns around there. Everybody's equal; but Regina teases Juan a little, saying it looks more like everybody jumps at Juan's whims and desires. Juan gets her back, pointing out very infrequently does his will change the whims of other people.
It sails over Regina's head, though; and she thinks he's trying to confuse her, who knows little about boats and sailing. Juan takes the opportunity to show her, in that case, and makes her take the wheel. Regina seems to be enjoying Juan's tender tutelage, as he takes her chin and draws her eyes to the sails, where she must pay attention, he says. They depend on the sails.
Soon they will come to a pretty island with a peninsula and lagoon, Juan says temptingly. When Regina observes that Juan knows the Caribbean very well, he smiles broadly and agrees, like the palm of my hand! At that, Regina reaches down and takes his hand, noting how strong they are. Juan looks slightly dazed and speechless as Regina observes his hands look like working hands. His is big and tanned against her tiny white one. Juan is taken aback when Regina admits that she's beginning to understand him.
Back at the finca, Aimee waits fearfully in their rooms for Renato, who presently enters, carrying something. Aimee is no doubt horrified to hear it's Regina's diary and quickly offers to keep it in case Regina comes back. But Renato's having none of that; the book is practically his -- his name is written on every page, he tells her. And he wants her to confirm something: Regina was in love with him? Aimee does not even fake surprise.
Below decks in the Luzbel, the boyz play a raucous game of cards, except for Remigio who lies front and center, brooding and missing "Malu." She's the prettiest, sweetest and most decent girl in port, he says. When the boyz learn what ails him, they lampoon him all over again for being in love and take the deck of cards and shower them over his head as if they were scented rose petals, having a big time. No rest for the lonely.
Meanwhile, at the casino, Lulu has borrowed Noel's volume of poetry and is reading to the girls and Philip more of the poem heard earlier:
Or which is more to be blamed—
though both will have cause for chagrin:
the woman who sins for money
or the man who pays money to sin?
So why are you men all so stunned
at the thought you're all guilty alike?
Either like them for what you've made them
or make of them what you can like.
Fifi moves to stand by Lulu and notes that Sor Juana understands their suffering very well; Lulu says it seems like every day just confirms more and more how kind Don Noel is. And she thinks he's completely right to insist she should tell Remigio the truth. Philip groans behind her; but she continues, saying the next time she will tell Remigio who she really is. Brigitte hopes doubtfully that he will understand and forgive her.
Federico meets Servando at the camp to discuss business. Servando is going to have to bring Griselda to Fulgencio's house to vouch for Jimena's whereabouts or lack thereof. Servando insists they're going to have to get rid of the weapons and that Federico has more connections along those lines than he. If Fulgencio starts investigating and finds out they betrayed him, it will go very badly for them, he says.
In Renato and Aimee's apartments, Renato presses Aimee for an answer. She admits Regina was obsessed with Renato -- thinking, talking, about only him. She always thought she'd marry him; but when Renato wanted Aimee, Regina went into the convent. So, it's true, Renato says. She went into the convent for love of him. Aimee wonders if he doesn't remember Regina's change of demeanor and attitude toward him?
Well, truth is, Regina was always pretty starchy; shipboard she monitored me constantly, Aimee says. In fact, so much, that one day I got so tired of all that...that... What!? Renato demands. You did WHAT?! Aimee backs off, claiming nothing but silly girl stuff. They two were not even a couple then. But...anyway, Juan...sort of began following her around and looking her up. But of course, she was never interested in him.
So he got interested in Regina. And Aimee sort of...encouraged it. Like when she wrote the note in Regina's name. Aimee insists that was her only transgression -- she toyed with the affections of both. Later when Juan found out the truth, he wanted revenge. Renato is wiping his brow in thorough confusion and waves off the details. You mean that Regina was never in love with him -- nor was his lover?! Aimee swears, Never! That's why she was so worried and upset (!), Aimee declares, when Renato forced them to get married!
Aimee says she confessed the truth to Regina and was terrified that Renato would murder her. So Regina accepted! She accepted the sacrifice. Aimee knows she's a bad sister, but it's her one and only sin, she swears. Aimee's positive Regina will never forgive her, she says weeping crocodile tears. And on bended knee, Aimee "begs" Renato to forgive her. Renato looks almost stone-faced, except for a modicum of perplexity mixed in.
Finally, on the Luzbel, with Regina and Juan still at the wheel together, when Regina remarks what a tranquil night it is, Juan tells her it's she who has brought a measure of tranquility and that he feels more relaxed with her around. And if she wants to know, he thinks his life has taken a turn for the better now.
Regina is very pleased, and when she starts to ask him about it, Juan says he doesn't really want to answer questions at the moment -- much less about the past. He'd just like to concentrate on how she's feeling right now. And how is she feeling? he asks. I don't know what to call it, she ventures; it seems most like happiness. Grab the rudder, he reminds her, as he hangs back, pondering her seriously. Then he can't help a grin breaking out on his face.

Neighbors are picking up roofing shingles all around; we have a couple in our yard, too, I see.
Behind us one of the trees is broken and on the ground. I can hear the village tree trimmer whirring away down the block already.
But luckily we still have power and internet. :-)
Except for Clemencias nagging Renie almost to death I enjoyed this episode very much.
This episode was and eye opener for some. Renie finding out about Reggie's love for him. Reggie and Juan accepting that something is going on between them...
Clemencia can be really annoying. Hes being in his room all day long without eating or drinking anything Pleeeease, Hes a ground a$$ man and hes not going to starve. And either Renie is a very slow reader or Clemencia was lying because he was talking to her before he started reading the dairy and had only read couple of page when she started nagging him. Aimee is a quick thinker and a very good liar. Finally, Juan and Reggie are paying more attention to each other. When he touched her chin I felt he was touching mine.
A quick comment about when Juans went to bed on Tuesdays episode. When he went to bed he wasnt wearing a shirt, he took off one boot only and he was wearing black pants. The next morning hes not wearing shirt, but it is tied at his wais, no boots and brown pants. I dont know how Rosie is going to know which medicine is which. They are all in the same type of bottle and no labels at all. The doctorcito has a very good memory or knowledge, maybe by the looks of it he knows the different medicines.
Secrets were revealed and hurt and anguish ensued: "Renato muses regretfully how Aimee was always capricious" and tyrannical" and "Renato looks almost stone-faced, except for a modicum of perplexity mixed in". He was blinded by Aimee. He himself summarized the situation perfectly: "imbecile".
So enjoying the way the Juan and Regina's romance is slowly blossoming: ""Regina seems to be enjoying Juan's tender tutelage". And well she should.
The title was perfect and the picture? Sigh...
Many of us had thought Noel would end up with Lulu. Although I love Remigio, she definitely has more chemistry with Noel. As usual, he is giving good, compaasionate and caring council.
Diana
I'm very happy you are fine. Is you property ok? the most important thing was you didn't lose electricity or internet connectivity.
what state do you in? I'm Northeastern PA and we are having a heat weave. They said is going to continue for the reminder of the week.
Sue, Clemencia was nagging! The interruptions were extremely annoying - couldn't wait to hear what Renato would read next. Aimee's heart must have lurched when she saw Renato had the diary, wondering if Regina had written of Aimme and Juan's dalliances.
Diana
Yeah it was a strong episode and my anger against Univision can not go away for changing the time...
I loved the scene between Huan and Regina and especially when in the same episode ( through Renato's reading the diary) is compared with her love for renato. the producers have used an interesting element and are a doing a good job by camparing her two loves...
MariaN
Diana, you are so right about Noel and Lulu. Noel totally missed out on young love; and while I don't normally approve of the young girl with and old goat pairing, a young woman is just what Noel needs to fill in what he missed.
In addition, Noel is no old goat; he's sexy as everything. Plus, he has what Lulu needs, too: tolerance.
You are right about the chemistry: those two have always communicated like a couple of magpies.
Sue and everyone, thanks; we live in the Prairie State of Illinois, in the far west Chicago suburbs, out on the Grand Prairie.
Maria, I am so with you on the time change! It was the stupidest; they should have moved it to an early slot instead of the late one, at least.
Probably they did what they could do, though. Dinero did boost their prime-time ratings, unfortunately.
We're kind of lucky to get the show an hour earlier than eastern, here in the central time zone. 11 p.m. is late enough, though. I almost never watch it then.
Connie, I need you to get caught up. ;-) I miss your salient comments, woman!
Mad Bess, you're on to me. I am a big romance fan; in fact, at one time I belonged to RWA -- Romance Writers of America, just for fun.
They are a great bunch of folks. I am not really a novelist type, though; I like the interpreting aspect.
I am a big hands fan, too. I love them, and I have done screen caps just of Eduardo's hands in the past. Here is one from Destilando Amor. EY truly has killa hands.
MB, Fulgencio does not believe that Jimena can really read palms; as I surmised the day it happened, Fulgencio suspects that Servando has been running off at the mouth to her and possibly others and betrayed Fulgencio's confidence.
Why does Renato continue to ask Aimee questions? In his heart he knows something is amiss and now, having read the diary, his knows Aimee is not the good person his nether regions had hoped she was.
Rod's observation about Noel & Lulu demonstrates what a hypocrite he is and how he & Leo are perfect for one another.
Sue & Diana - yes, Clem is annoying and the sad thing is she's trying to be helpful.
Yeah you are right he saved her from the vipers in her family
Thank you for the translation to the poem.
So, after reading Reggie's diary, Renato has now discovered just how big of a jerk he has been, especially with Reggie. Now if he could find a way to get Aimee to stop with the relentless twisting of stories and lies to suit herself. (personally, I don't think she will change; she's acting too much like her Godmother Auntie Leona right now to learn anything).
Jody :)
They say that tremors travel much further in the eastern part of the continent, because the bedrock is all of one, strong piece -- I guess because of the glaciation. They say it's like hitting a piece of sheet metal with a hammer.
And I agree about Renato's cluelessness; but even with all the diary drama, I think he is still in love with his wife.
He's disappointed in her and himself, but he's still attracted to her -- and not Regina.
He comes by it honestly; Noel married unwisely and continued to love his wife, even though deeply disappointed in her.
Jody, you're right; Aimee and Leonarda are excellent liars. I don't know how they do it.
Karen, that business about Rodrigo snearing at Noel and Lulu: I think they put that in there to demonstrate just who the poet was talking about. He was doing just the thing while Noel was reading it.

Viewerville: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Clemencia is a real busy body but I guess she thinks she is entitled since she literally raised the brats. God forbid if Leo did anything the least bit motherly.
Rosemary
Aribeth LOL!!
I think she did say "pelicula," film or movie, but they didn't have those yet then, so that was a slip, anachronism.
Poor Renato, but I think you may be right he still is attracted to Aimee and not Regina. I thought because he'd been such a sheltered boy though, that he was just overcome with lust but didn't have any experience to be able to see what kind of heifer Aimee is.
ITA that Noel and Lulu make a better couple, but they don't seem to be pushing that.
Very sweet the way Juan and Regi are getting to know each other and falling in love.
I had the same thought about Clemencia and Leo, too, he's a grown man, leave him alone. He must be an extremely slow reader, though.
Gosh, I'm glad that you weren't attacked by a tornado. I can hardly imagine these kind of natural disasters, my country is quite calm, no earthquakes or awful storms. But we have water, mucho water, rivers and small lakes. And floods. It has been raining for months, many people lost their houses and the crops are also destroyed. (I hate this disgusting weather, it's almost July but we wear warm clothes.)
As for the conversation of Juan and Reggie: she said that she didn't know exactly how she was feeling but it resembled happiness the most - lo más parecido a la felicidad. :)
Karen:
"his knows Aimee is not the good person his nether regions had hoped she was."
:DDDDD
This is priceless. :))
And I had that written on my first draft. But it was muffled, and since it was the cliffhanger, I wanted to check.
This morning when I got the episode off my TiVo, the sub-titles definitely said, "pelicula."
So movie it was. I can change it back.
"Juan le pregunta a Regina qué es lo que siente en ese momento y ella le responde que no sabe cómo se llama lo que siente, pero que es lo más parecido a la felicidad." (10 February 2010)
So you heard it well. :)
Are TV subtitles made by humans or softwares? Pelicula and felicidad have the same rhythm, but they're quite different words.
I should have just made my own mistake -- or not! :D
Aribeth, that "diary" was too funny! I couldn't believe that those 3 women couldn't leave Renato alone. What did they think he was doing, playing with matches? He should have just yelled "Go away. I'm masturbating." I think that would have done it. Clemencia would have run to pray for his soul, Leo would have run to find Noel and tell him what a perv HIS son was, and Aimee would have gone to her room to think about Juan.
I'm wonder if the writers are setting this up so that Noel will be there for Lulu when she tells Remi the truth and he dumps her?
God help me, but I think I kind of like Lulu's strawberry-cupcake dress. I'm really hoping maybe theirs will be the one relationship where the girl owns up to the lie with an apology and the reasons why, and the guy manages to understand and forgive. Compared to some of the others going around, hers is almost tame. If she tells Remi she made the story up because he's such a good man she was embarassed for him to know what she really does, and that she doesn't really want to be doing it, maybe he'll play white knight and take her away from it.
Noel can read poetry to me anytime. Also: Rod, I'd like you to meet my friend the kettle. Why, yes; he is very like you...
I almost felt sorry for Renato tonight (then I had that same, "Well, you made your bed, HA ha," reaction I did with Aimee during Regina's wedding).
Regina looked so content and unstressed while she was up on deck with Juan. I like the way they're actually devloping a relationship instead of just jumping into each other.
He should have just yelled "Go away. I'm masturbating."
...I would PAY to see that. XD
I don't even feel I need Aribeth's video today (although I love them!) because you expressed the mood of Juan and Regina's time together so beautifully. You are really skilled. Thank you.
Aribeth, your Regina diary was hilarious!!
Regarding Ren, I think he thinks he loves Aimee but in reality it's lust. I have to say this b/c what is there to Aimee? She's not nice, completely self-centered and had none of his interest. He found all her flaws charming as long as he believed she only had eyes for him (very conditional caring at best). Now that he is becoming aware of who she really is, he's beginning to dislike her. And the thing that attracted him to her, will the thing he despises most about her as the TN continues.
The poem was wonderful and most apt for the situation. Thanks so much for the translation.
Aribeth, your version of Regi's diary was soooo funny. My favorites were these two passages:
Day 3029. Today I fled the second floor with my tears and one of the servants asked me if I was related to Adela Noriega or Victoria Ruffo. I didn't understand the question.
Day 3216. Houston, we have a problem! Tomorrow I'll have to marry with that neanderthal thing. Brrrrr. I'd rather kiss a wookie but I'll obey to Renato's order because I want to spare his feelings. Because I... wait for it... LOVE HIM. Para siempre.
I enjoyed seeing our pretty boy read the diary, although it shouldn't have taken him from early morning through night to read it. We can only speculate what took him so long. The way he rejected interference from his beloved Nana, his mother, and his wife was entertaining.
Juan and Regi in their slow dance of attraction and developing affection are delightful to see.
La Paloma
Day 3011. Today he almost asked me to be his wife. Then I realized that he said "Aimee" after the words "I love". Holy moly!
LOL! You're a freaking genius. :D
Ren, you made your bed and now you have to sleep in it...with Aimee, not Reggie. Ha, ha. The passion didn't last long without a true connection.
My Spanish is not the best and i am confused by the captions with unfamiliar words appear, but I know enough Spanish to realize that they were running STuD subtitles instead of C S subtitles for awhile. I said "Horacio" who? He's the new character on STuD. Sheesh.
GinCA
This is marvelous. Thanks. Your storm sounded hair-raising. I'm so glad that it just brushed you. I still need to watch this episode, however, your recap is so vivid, I feel as though I've seen it already. The poem by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz has personal significance for me. Not long after I started my tutoring sessions with mi profa Adriana (about the third meeting), she had me read it out loud and then tell her (in Spanish of course) what it said. Sometime later we studied her life in depth, read several more poems as well as la Respuesta and the Archbishop's letter that prompted it. What an amazing, fascinating (and apparently very beautiful and captivating) woman. Good for the writers for culturizing us a bit. You also said that you are a member of Romance Writers of America. I know zero about the organization, but it has an office right next to my dentist in the burbs North of Houston. I've always been curious about it.
Aribeth,
The diary... hilarious... and likely very much like the original, which is why it's so darned funny. Thanks.
This show is so much fun. Thanks to you recappers for sticking with it. I just wish I could stay awake to watch it at the time it's shown so I could make better-informed comments.
Carlos
Carlos, once upon a long time ago I was in an RWA group; probably 20 years ago in Arizona.
I had come across Sor Juana before, and I think it could have been in a telenovela, too. Not sure.
Carlos, I hope you are still around; what's your take on Renato and Aimee? Can lust be love for a man?
I have no idea how this pans out; but I think he still would not love Regina and that even if she had told him she loved him, nothing would have been different.
Barbara, glad you like the picture. :-) Also, busy hands are happy hands. LOL
Though I vehemently disapproved of Renato's selection of Aimee... I fully understood it. I've known several Aimee's during my lifetime and I must admit, whether one is young and inexperienced or older and wiser (ostensibly), they are very difficult to resist. They appeal to all five senses and seem to emit an invisible substance that inhibits reason and good judgement.
Carlos
Well, Carlos, thank you; that is interesting, and I'll remember that. My observations of men lead me to think that sex is very important to them -- and I mean emotionally.
I would easily believe that a man could love a woman for sexual reasons. People denigrate that, but it seems as though sex is very seriously integral to men.
Females have children, but males must do the deed. And the woman that makes him feel most like that is someone he would seek very seriously.
Aribeth, I was laughing out loud so hard in front of my computer while reading your take on Regina's diary that my cat looked up from his perch and meowed at me! Funny stuff.
I enjoy this blog so much - thanks everyone.

Susanlynn/Mad Awesome Bess:
I love your version of the modal auxiliares. :)
"Regina : I should have brought my camera along so that I could capture some candid shots of this guy swimming in the buff to add to my diary. Hmmm...By the way, where IS my diary ???? "
YES! Dammit, Regina, where's your camera when it is needed?! :)))
Vivi:
"Reggie's diary proved that she's a Montes de Loca"
True. Good observation.
Jeri:
Thank you for the screenshot of Big Ed's hand!
BarbaraM:
"The problem I see is that Renato will think that Regina has to still love him and never consider that she could be falling in love with Juan."
Exactly, and don't forget that he's just as obsessive as his family members.
Thank you all, I'm glad you liked the diary. :) The "I fled the second floor" line is "I flooded the second floor", I screwed it up.
