Dinero #134 6/16/10: Anyone want to buy some old trucks??

We have some carry over from last night with Marco reassuring Chavez that no one would ever suspect his dealings with Carmela. Our no ones are at Siglo putting on their detective hats to figure out what Marco is up to, Who is the mystery women Jimenez saw Marco with and what does she do? Who can they get to help them figure this all out?

Zetina, our man with a million names, shows up just as the Hardy boys our finishing their little reunion. Rafa assures them that at some time they will have to figure out Marco’s weak point. Zetina, asks Rafa if he remembers him. Rafa says of course he does and gets the name wrong. Anyway Zetina wants to know if he has come up with any work for him. Not your lucky day Zetina. Rafa tells him to come back tomorrow there might be something. Poor Zetina says he hopes so because it isn’t cheap to come back and forth and he doesn’t have any money, as he stumbles off tripping over his briefcase.

Rafa enters Ale’s office. She tells him she has resigned. Rafa tries to tell her something and Ale interrupts and tells him he is in no condition to tell her what seems right or not. She tells him she is going to leave as soon as possible. Hopefully tomorrow. Rafa tells her he is not in any hurry to assume her position. She tells him she is in a hurry. She reminds him again about his monthly payments to her. She even warns him about trying to sell the house again. She also tells him she wants the rest of her money sooner than later. Rafa is surprised to hear this. She tells him she knows this wasn’t in his plans but she doesn’t want to have anything else to do with him and would like the money as soon as possible. Rafa tells her he wants nothing better than to pay her as soon as possible and has been trying to get a loan. She tells him good at least we are in agreement. Rafa tells her it is not because he wants to be done with her, but he is tired of dealing with her “novio.”.

Ale says “my fiancé? Did you forget that I ended it with him?” Rafa says whatever, that lawyer guy and tells her he will pay her as soon as he can. He leaves and asks Susana about his check. As she goes to get it for him, Pepito shows up and wants to know how it went with Ale. Rafa tells him she is leaving. Pepito tells him he knew this but Rafa says it still hurts. He tells him she doesn’t want to have anything to do with him and furthermore wants him to pay off his debt as soon as possible. Pepito wonders how he is going to manage that and Rafa informs him he will just have to hope he can get a loan. It is the only way he can get Marco off his back. Pepito wishes him good luck with that, after all it is really hard to get that kind of loan.

Don Gaston is trying to get Vicky to eat something. The only thing that will get her appetite back is to hear the voice of her Pajarito. The door bell rings and Don Gaston is off to see who it could be. Vicky sneaks out of the room wondering who might be calling as well. It is Lenora. Don Gaston is quite pleased to see her. He wants to know if his boys have been bugging her lately. She assures him they have been behaving. He invites her in and apologizes for not being able to offer her anything. After all his daughter has been very ill. He tells her he doesn’t know what to do for her. He has even thought about putting her in the hospital. But there are times when she is better. Especially when Rafa calls or visits. It is like “she comes back to life”. (funny how that works.)

Lenora tells him that it is because she cares for him so much. Don Gaston says, what a shame Rafa doesn’t feel the same. Lenora assures him Rafa still cares for her. They are just going through a little lovers crisis. Don Gaston agrees, telling her he is aware of her bugging him at work. He talked to her and put an end to it.

Vicky has snuck up even closer now as Lenora reminds Don Gaston about Rafa’s accident and the huge debt he has to pay back. Don Gaston says he knows about that and wants to know how it’s going. Lenora tells him he is working really hard, but the people he owes are being jerks. All that woman wants to do his humiliate him and scream at him all the time. Vicky silently but well hidden nods in agreement with Lenora. She tells Don G. if Rafa doesn’t make his payments they could put him in jail. Don G. tells her to “shush her mouth” (calle boca ) just think what that would do to his Vicky if Rafa ended up in Jail. (se fuera al bote). We see a distressed Vicky still lurking about.

Lenora tells him well that’s actually why she is there. He just doesn’t happen to have an extra 5 million laying around he could loan them? He gives an uncomfortable laugh and tells her that is a lot of money. (So here is every ones homework, what in the world does titipuchal mean? I am thinking it translates into something like “an obscene amount of money”. That is the word Don G said). He tells Lenora that he told Vicky that one just doesn’t loan that kind of money to just any one. Lenora tells him Rafa is not just anyone. He has known him since he was a child. He knows what a hard worker he is and that he finishes what he starts. Vicky again in the shadows is shaking her ahead in agreement to everything Lenora is saying. She goes on to say he is just not anyone, after all he is Vicky’s boyfriend. Don G is still not sold on the whole loan business.

Lenora tells him if he pays off his debt his worries will be alleviated and he will return to the old Rafa they all know and love, and Vicky will get the Rafa she fell in love with back. She tells him she is not asking for a gift, just tell her how he would like them to pay him back. Don Gaston has to think this over. After all this isn’t something you do without some deep thought. (more homework “echarle harto coco“ I know coco means to be smart or use your brain I just am not sure about that dicho.).

Don Gaston escorts her to the door telling her he will think about it. She thanks him for his time. He tells her he will think about it as he shuts the door. Don Gaston is overwhelmed with the thought of so much money. Vicky is hiding in the corner, praying that papa will come through with the money.

Like mother like son, we also have Rafa trying to get a loan. He is on the phone with the bank writing down all the things he has to have in order to apply for the loan. They are asking him what type of assets he has and Poor Rafa thinks they are asking him about furniture(“ immuebles” property or estates). Rafa wants to know how long it will take to approve his loan and is not happy with the answer.

Susana all business shows up with his check and goes to leave. Rafa stops her, asking for a favor. She reminds him she doesn’t do favors she just obeys orders as his secretary. (She had quite the snotty tone to her voice). He needs company records showing how much they make and other financial statements so he can apply for a loan. She agrees to get them for him and leaves. Rafa is quite pleased with his check. Too bad he has to give it all to Ale.

Jimenez is on the phone with the wife. Usual grind. “What do you want me to do rob a bank?" he asks her. Pepito asks him if he would really rob a bank. Jimenez thinks it might not be so bad if he got caught and had to go to jail. At least he wouldn’t have to put up with the Mrs. Jimenez is about to have worse problems than his wife. Remember the client a few weeks ago that gave Jimenez the cash to accessorize his new car?. Well that loan has come due!! He is back for his fully accessorized car. Unfortunately Jimenez pocketed the money to pay for his kids schooling, the light bills and the utilities. He begs Pepito to loan him 3500 pesos. That isn’t going to happen. He is able to buy himself a little time by telling the client the car got lost in the Philippines. There was a Tsunami or some such nonsense. He assures him it will be there tomorrow. The client warns him it better be. Hay dios Mio. Jimenez has 24 hours to come up with the money.

Rafa hands a personal check to Ale. His monthly payment. He tells her he has sufficient funds to cover the check and she could even call the bank to confirm this. Ale assures him she will call to confirm it. (We had a lot of snotty tones tonight.) She is surprised by the amount. It is more than he needs to pay her. She wants to know what the extra amount is for. He tells her it is for the loan she gave him when he first started to pay for family living expenses and for all the clothes she bought for him. Also for the clothes from Puerto Vallarta. The last part is her share of the commission from the Celeste deal. Ale tells him she had nothing to do with that sale. He assures her she was fundamental in this. She even accompanied him on the sale. She reminds him she did not accompany him. She went there acting crazy in front of that woman. He tells her without her help he would not have made the sale. She deserves her share. He tells her she can think what she wants to about him but he is gracious and just; especially with her.

We have a very intense moment of staring into one another’s eyes. The moment is over when Ale asks Rafa what kind of games he is playing with her. He tells her it is no game. He is just trying to pay her what he owes her. He pleadingly tells her he is not the thief that she thinks he is. He tells her if God willing he will soon be able to pay her what he owes her and goes to leave. Ale stops him and tells him she does not want the money from the Celeste deal and tells him to change the check. He tells her to do what she wants with the check. She tells him “okay well the only thing that interests you is money, and the only relationship that exists between us is money“ and writes out a check for him. She wants to settle things up (Finequittar/ settle ones account). She tells him it is his part of the commission from Cocoyok. Rafa tells her he had nothing to do with that. The only thing he did there was get thrown in jail. Ale quite outraged tells him “That’s the only thing you did in Cocoyoc? Nothing more?" Rafa looking totally broken attempts to leave. Ale screams at him and tells him he is not going anywhere. She continues screaming at him, telling him all she has left is her dignity and insists he take the money.

We have a deja vu moment with Ale trying to stuff the money in Rafa’s pocket and him fighting her off. She tells him you will do what I say and Rafa tells her she is no longer his boss. This happened in the very beginning as well and they were interrupted by Beltran. This time the interruption is by a very confused Susana who sees Ale struggling to pin Rafa against the wall trying to stuff the money in his pocket. They quickly separate as Susana asks what is going on? Ale quickly says “nothing, this guy is just trying to humiliate me and won’t take the money“. He tells her he doesn’t want it. It is hers and that’s it. And curtly says goodbye.

Susana tells Rafa a car is waiting for him to take him to Groupo Celeste. Ale sarcasticly tells him to have a good trip and to say Hi to Marian for her. Equally sarcastically, Rafa tells her he will and leaves. Susana is still confused at what she just saw. Rafa the thief, the swindler, the delinquent and the source of all her headaches wouldn’t take her money. Ale tells her that’s right.

Ale is trying to explain everything to Susana. Susana doesn’t quite understand why he would pay her all this but try to swindle her out of the house. Susana wants to know if Ale threatened him to pay. She denies this. She tells her all she asked was not to have anything more to do with him or his family, and to pay the entire debt as soon as possible and fall off the map.

Susana is still confused why Rafa would do this. Ale says it is because Rafa doesn’t want her to believe he is the thief she thinks he is. Also that he told her his main objective is to pay off the rest of his debt. Susana tells Ale that she thinks he is really planning to do this, since he asked her to get information needed for his loan application. Ale flippantly says lets hope so (ojala). Susana still thinks there is something strange about all of this. (our little glimmer of hope here).

Tia Rosario is dressed to the nines and ready for her big date with Quintana. She is all worried about how Jorge is going to react. Ale encourages her to go even if she has to lie to Jorge. Quintana is at the bar discussing his date with Rosario with a drinking buddy. His buddy is surprised that he would be interested in someone like Rosario. After all his type is usually much younger. Quintana assures him it is worth it. After all once they are married he will have lots of money. He plans to ask her tonight. If Jorge doesn’t butt in. (Oh please butt in Jorge).

Quintana shows up for Rosario and they sneak out before Jorge gets wind of it. Rosario has enlisted the help of Azucena. She asks her to lie to Jorge if he asks where she is. Jorge comes downstairs looking for his sister and Azucena tells him she went to the market. Jorge seems very upset by this and wants to know why she didn’t tell him this. He asks if she didn’t just leave with Quintana by any chance. Azucena gets all nervous and excuses herself telling Jorge she’s got beans on the stove. ( frijoles en la lumbre/ fire). Jorge is left frustrated and trying to figure out why she would be cooking beans at this hour.

Susana wants to know why Rosario never married. Ale tells her it is because she was so selective and Jorge was always so tough as well. She will probably never get married as well. Ale asks Susana if Dandy told her anything about the meeting he had with Rafa. Not yet, (but lets hope he tells her everything). Then she asks her what Rafa would be up to going over to Groupo Celeste. The deal was closed. Susana suggests that maybe Ale should ask Rafa herself. Why would she do that. (Were Ale’s big brown eyes looking a little green with envy?)

Marian and Rafa are looking over the fleet of used trucks that Marian needs to get rid of. She is giving him all the details. She says they are still worth lots of money. Rafa agrees but says they are old and have lots of mileage on them and he really doesn’t know what condition they are in. Marian assures him that she has all the details and she is being honest with him showing him the papers. Rafa is still worried how he is going to find clients for all those Monster trucks. She reminds him that a good part of what they will be paying for the new trucks will come from the sales of the old trucks. They have to come up with a good sales strategy for this. Why not go back to the office and discuss this.

Rosario and Quintana have arrived at the birthday party. It looks like a happening spot. Not!!! We have some talk about the birthday boy not being surprised Jorge is not there since he has a hard time remembering which of his friends are still alive or not. We also have some Margret chick putting the moves on Quintana with a disapproving Rosario by his side. Oh but our Quintana only has eyes for Rosario (and her money if there is anything left after Marco and Chavez have “Milked” the hacienda dry). Quintana wants a bottle of champagne. After all he is waiting for the most important answer in his life as he shoots loving looks at Rosario.

Jorge is having a serious meltdown as he is pacing about checking his watch and worrying about Rosario. He asks Azucena where she could be at this hour looking at his wrist. She informs him he is looking at his blood pressure cuff. Well that doesn’t matter, it is still late. She is never out this late. Something happened to her. He then accuses her of lying to him. He wants Quintana’s number now!! Azucena manages to escape to make a call to Ale. Ale tells her to tell Jorge to calm down and she will call him later.

Susana is intrigued about the call and Ale tells her that Jorge is hysterical. She manages to bring the conversation around to Rafa as she says to Susana “what about that Medina?’ He hasn’t returned yet. Susana says, do you need him for something? Do you want me to call him.? Ale feigning disinterest says “nah forget about him, let him enjoy himself with that beautiful women.”

Our last scene is with Rafa and “the beautiful woman” Marian in her office. They are working out the final details of how to unload all those trucks. She teases him a little bit about being so exact and Rafa whips out his calculator. He thinks it might cost about 100,000 pesos to fix up the trucks. She tells him they aren’t in her office to discuss these details. That’s his job. He asks her what she suggests he do. There was a lot of business talk that just went over my head. At one point Marian told Rafa that the whole problem resulted because he wouldn’t allow her to use the trucks as trade ins. Now she is stuck with them and needs to sell them separately. She warns him teasingly not to take advantage of the affection she has for him. I think if he can sell them at a certain price he ends up with a pretty good commission.

Anyway now that the business is settled, what about kicking back and having a few drinks. Rafa appears a bit nervous and is checking his watch. Marian wants to know if has another commitment. He assures her he doesn’t and downs his drink. She asks him if he will find a client for the trucks or buy them himself. He looks at her and says with what money. She tells him he could get a loan. He tells her that’s what he is trying to do, but not for the trucks. It is for an old debt he has. Oh well drink up and we end up with her saying “fondo banco hombre”. (Bottoms up? Not certain what that meant, more homework anyone?)

Hi Pata. Another great recap... and this episode was much less painful. I could actually watch the whole thing!

It had some of my favorite juicy words in it....titipuchal, coco and finiquitar. Love 'em all. You certainly were able to figure everything out from context. "titipuchal" means a load of something. It's Mexican slang. Ditto for "coco" which means head, brain, noggin. Even though Don Gaston "really had to think about it", sounds like he's got the dough. Another contrast with the rich family of Ale....they've mismanaged their money and wasted their assets whereas hard-working Don Gaston has earned and saved every possible penny.

Clever transition when you wrote "like mother like son". I'm always impressed with how recappers can link up the kaleidoscope of scenes with phrases like that. Bien hecho Pata!

Actually looked forward to reading your deft recap this morning because I enjoyed last night...even with Ay Dios Mio Ramiro on the brink of big trouble. The close intense encounters between Rafa and Ale were certainly hopeful! Let's at least look forward to more chest to chest struggles over paychecks!

Glad the business talk was as confusing for you as it was for me (I'm equally confused in English) but clearly Marian is driving a hard bargain and Rafa is going to have to do some fancy stepping to find a buyer for all those old broken down trucks.

Morning Judy, thanks for the kinds words. I found this episode to be alot less painful as well.

The Rafa/ Ale interactions were quite interesting. As much as I would have rather seen them getting along I was glad to see them interacting together again. Even their angry accusational scenes are fun to see. There was alot of electrical chemistry flying.

I also am finding the Rafa/Marian scenes quite fun. It has to be a nice change for him after dealing with tricky Vicky and angry Ale.

Oh and Paula if you are reading this thanks for post yesterday with feeding instructions for recappers. I tried to post but kept loosing my comments.

Pata, Thanks for another one of your stellar and marvelously detailed recaps. I love them. I haven't seen the show yet-- I am going to have to try and exercise some self-control and not skip right to the Ale and Rafa scenes.

Zetina, our man with a million names--LOL. Why does Rafa keep telling him to come back one day later? I know Rafa feels bad for him but really this is not helping Zetina at all. I wonder where they are going with this story? Maybe they are just keeping him around to use if the writers need it.

Great recap. Just to clarify, Marian said " Fondo blanco hombre". You were right. It does mean bottoms up. It implies to leave el fondo, The bottom, en blanco, clear.

Thanks for the clarification Charolette Mommy. I thought that is what she said at first, but when I went to read the CC.s it said banco so I got a little confused. I couldn't figure out why she would be talking about banks. except they were talking about loans so I thought she was injecting a little word play. There were a lot of new words and dichos last night.

And Barbra, I always look forward to your comments as well. I can tell you love this show as much as I do.

Great one Pata!
I know that Leonor was just trying to help Rafa, but I hate that she went to Gaston and we all know why. I don't think that Rafa will be pleased either.
It is just my opinion, but maybe Marian will lend Rafa the money. Personally I hope that no one does, because then Ale will have her money and leave Siglo and there will be no more loving couple or not so loving couple right now, but we know that there is hope. Loved the look that Ale gave Rafa last night.

Remember the other night when Rafa was telling the whole story to the guys and he asked the question "Who can we get to do this job?", well in case you didn't notice that was the EXACT moment Zetina came onto the scene.
There just may be a job for him yet, lol.

Kat,I was thinking the same thing about Zetina and the timing of his entrance. I don't know if that would be wise though as he is so bumbley, but yet again the guy is so "invisable and forgettable" to everyone he would be the perfect spy. No one would notice him.

Thanks Pata for a great recap.

There was lots to like in this episode -- the glimmer of hope in Susanna's questions -- the interplay with Ale & Rafa and with Rafa & Marian -- the hint that Zetina may become useful after all.

But I had one problem with one storyline. I hate the agism of this show. I have learned to enjoy Jorge's forgetfulness because I think of it as a specific character trait rather than making fun of senility. I had no problem with the portrayal of the party of older folks as a less than jumping affair -- or with the divorcee trying to jump the bones of the first new blood in the door. But much of that scene was tasteless and insensitive IMHO.

But all in all a much more fun episode than some we've had to deal with lately -- and very enjoyably recapped.

Güera (in a snit) from Syracuse

Thanks for another complete and fun recap, Pata. I agree with Kat and you that maybe they can enlist Zetina to spy on Marcos, since he's so invisible.

About the various money transactions. 5 Million pesos is $400,000.00, so Don Gaston would really be lending a huge sum. The watch they gave Dandy was worth only about $200.00, which is still not chicken feed, but Rosaura said her friends have $4000 watches.

Jimenez owes about $250.00 for the accessories. For him and Pepeto, that's a lot of money, not something they have lying around.

The repairs to the trucks would be $8,000.00. Marian doesn't want to spend it. And she originally wanted $100,000 for the trucks. But she then came up with the idea that if Rafa pays her $70,000, he can keep the difference. So he can gradually sell the trucks for whatever he wants. This helps her keep him close to her, because it's going to take a long time, and they'll be tied together by this deal. She definitely knows what she's doing.

Guera, Hi there. I had some problems with the steriotyping of the party as well. That is kind of why I breezed over it. There were some important aspects, like Quintana's intent to propse marriage and but I did find it a bit tasteless. I still believe though that Jorge's portrait of being a bit senile and forgetful is important to our story line. Last night I felt he was actually honestly having problems remembering his lines. Or he was just doing such a phenomenal acting job. I really do adore his character. He is so worried about his sister, as well he should be.

Hombre, I love how your mind works with all those figures and numbers. Did you whip out the calulator like Rafa does? I was lost at that point so I just decided to go with the flow and enjoy someone actually being sweet to Rafa. Even though she may have alterior motives. That might not be so bad so just a little while.

Thanks Pata, great recap! You helped me understand the scene with the trucks and Rafa and Marian. He talks so fast sometimes I can hardly follow it. I was able to watch this episode after taking a break, it didn't seem quite so bleak.

I,too, was wondering about Zetina, so that's a good theory, Kat. At least Susana is noticing that there is something inconsistent in what Rafa is doing.

The Hardy boys - LOL! I'm glad, too, that Rafa has a posse (love that word).

Another job well done this week, Pata. I've been spending so much time outside that I missed most of the last few episodes. Recaps are the best way to catch up!

Any interaction between Ale and Rafa that doesn't involve tears is a step in the right direction. There's still hope, especially since Ale is still jealous of Rafa's involvement with Marian.

I also thought Marian might lend Rafa the money but it could cause problems for their business relationship. Though Marian clearly wants more than a business relationship out of Rafa...

Points to Susana for questioning why Rafa would make a monthly payment with interest if he was trying to swindle Ale the whole time. Let's plant that seed of doubt and watch it grow!

Pata, I've always liked math. I think I mentioned this before, but the quick way to estimate pesos is to drop 2 zeroes and multiply times 8. So if you have 3000 pesos, that's 30*8=$240. If you have 1 million pesos, that's $80,000. I try to convert them while the characters are talking. I may have gotten some of them a little off, but hopefully, it's close.

Thanks again for the help with the math, Hombre. When I'm trying to get a quick idea of the size of an amount they mention i just drop a zero. It's not accurate but it's in the area.

Hombre, how do you keep up with that? Seems like the amount of a dollor/peso is constantly changing. Like right now I was under the impression that 1 dollar is about 12 pesos or something like that. When my boyfriend sends money to his mom in Mexico, if he sends $100 it is like $1,283 pesos or close to that amount.

You are right, Zetina is so forgettable that he would be a perfect spy. Maybe that is what the writter were trying to tell us by constantly having EVERYONE forget his name all of the time, lol.

Pata, thank you for another excellent recap.

I've been living on a new schedule now and it will continue throughout the summer. I barely get a chance to look at the site during the day (kids at home) and even if I do, it's not for more than 5 minutes- not quite enough to read the whole recap through. I'm sorry if I'm not "feeding" you dear recappers. But please know, that even if I'm not there I appreciate your always stellar work. I will be back in September on the regular basis, but until then I hope the recaps will continue, and I will check in whenever I can :)

Thanks for the recap. I was channel surfing last night and checked in on parts of Dinero. Thank you for the rest.

• I laughed when you said Hephzibah had eyes in the back of her head thanks to too many facelifts.

Just shuffling my feet! Thank you for your wonderful recap.-Thankful Lurker since 2007

That's it, Thankful Lurker! That's what we're looking for! Read it and shuffle. Me basta (that's good enough for me).

Lurker since 2007, what a great sense of humour you have. I thank you for shuffling your feet. Hi Paula thanks for stopping by.

Pata: I'll echo what everyone's already written. This was a wonderful recap. I only saw a few brief scenes last night, one of them being where Susana walked in on Ale and Rafa and couldn't figure out what they were doing. Neither could I so thank you for explaining it.

The other scene I saw was Don Gaston trying to get VVV to eat. Such a coddled spoiled princess! He does dote on her, doesn't he?

Very interesting and informative!

Diana

Kat, you're right, the peso keeps changing, and there's about 12 to the dollar. It's actually closer to 12.5. So if you multiply 12.5*8, you get 100. That's why I drop two zeroes, and multiple times 8.

But Guera's method of just dropping one zero (which is dividing by 10) is a lot quicker. It's actually a little less than dividing by ten, but it gets you in the ballpark. Thanks for the suggestion, Guera.

Wow, when anyone talks math my brain just freezes. I'll stick with it's a "titipuchal" of money. Works for me. But Hombre, Guera and Kat, I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Thank God I don't have to earn my living in finance.

My original comment, which was so witty and informative, didn't post for some reason. Anyway, thanks for the funny recap, and I'm looking forward to more developments tonight (shuffle, shuffle).

Mil in NC

Pata- So sorry for chiming in late. Your recap was wonderful and I loved the dichos. Everyone else has already pointed out the best part of last night's episode and your recap.

Hombre- I love it when you talk math. :)

Judy, I am with you on the math "brain freezes". I am so grateful for calulators.

Mil in NC, I have lost comments before as well. Don't know where they go. Perhaps they are hanging out with all the socks I loose in the dryer.

The previews looked fun for tonight Vivi so I can't wait for your recap.

And again thanks everyone who shuffled on by to offer nourishment. It was like eating at a 4 star restaurant.

Thanks for the great recap Pata. I glad you were able to work out all of the homework assignments for me. :)

That would be a lot of money for Don Gaston to come up with, $400,000? Man, who sets up weddings like that? If I was him, nope, no loan from me. Find a bank.

And Ale, Que? Pay me sooner than we agreed, but when I try to pay you, you don't want the money? I guess if she doesn't want a Celeste cut, take the money back and give it to her as a loan pay out.

Kat and Pata, great idea to have Santana... er, Zetina to the spying.

Hey Jeff. I always look forward to your witty comments. I actually thought about posting a vocab list at the bottome of my recap and was going to make everyone find the definitions, but it was getting so late and I started late. Maybe next time I will have a pop quiz.

Thanks for the wonderful recap Pata! Sorry I'm commenting so late - I didn't have computer access at work today. I enjoyed last night's episode. I'm glad there's not quite so much tension. I thought it was really cute the way Ale tried to put the check in Rafa's pocket. And I'm glad Susana is realizing that Rafa's behavior is strange. I'll echo a bunch of you and say that I'd also like Zetina to join the posse!

Hi Tracie. There is no such thing as a late comment. I have posted much later than that. I have all for Zetina joing the "possee" but I think he might have to leave his breifcase behind. He is always tripping over it.

I usually open up a new window to enter comments. I then wait for the comments to show up before I close it. In the window where I enter the comments, if I go back to the previous page, my comments are still there and I can copy them and paste into another attempt or retry.
I have been having problems where the first time I try to enter a comment for the day, I put in the word verification and hit publish. What then happens is that the comment page comes back with my comment, but the word verification section is missing and my comment was not added. I cannot use the window to add the comment because the word verification section is not there. I then have to open up a new comment attempt and copy and paste my comment into it. I have found out that if I purposely don't put in the right word, it prompts me for the correct word and then my comment gets added. I don't get that intermediate window with no word verification section. The weird situation usually only happens with the first comment I try to do during the day. Any later comments usually work. Strange stuff.
I use an older powerpc Mac with Safari browser.

I meant that to say I am all for Zetina joining the "posse".

I started watching Dinero when Salvaje moved, and I think I understand what's going on except, why on earth does Rafa owe Ale money? It seems to be a very important part of the plot.

Thanks recappers !!

Anon-Rafa accidentally ran Ale off the road at the beginning of the show. This was due to his impatience at being behind her slow moving car, and her distracted driving. But Rafa got all the blame and was accused of drunk driving because there was liquor in his car (he wasn't drinking). This happened just days before Ale and Marco's HUGE, expensive fancy wedding. And the day before Ale was due to sign a contract on a new fancy apartment for her and Marco, to which she had already put down a large deposit. Because she was then hospitalized, she lost her money on the apartment and the realtor sold it to someone else. The wedding had to be cancelled but everything (including the fancy food and booze) had already been paid for. Rafa was thrown in jail for the accident and in order to gain his freedom, he had to make a deal with Ale, via Marco- he had to agree to pay Ale back for the cost of the wedding, apartment, hospital stay, surgery and therapy, etc. That's how this whole mess started and that's why the amount is so great.

Hi anon. I will try and make this brief. The first couple of episodes, Ale was getting ready to marry Marco and it was going to be an expensive wedding. She also had this great deal lined up where she would back lots of money. On top of all that she put a huge nonrefundable down payment towards an apartment for her and Marco if she didn't contact them by a certain time.
Rafa was a jack of all trades type salemen mostly selling out of the back of his car. He had a bunch of whiskey he was trying to sell as well in his car.

On the dy before the wedding Ale was on her way to close her very profitable deal which would help pay for the apartment as well as wedding costs.

Rafa was having all sorts of finacial problems as well that day.
They were both heading towards the same spot both very stressed and distracted. Can't remember the exact details of the actual accident but to avoid hitting a truck, Rafa swerved and it caused Ale to go flying in the ditch.

Rafa stopped and actually got Ale out of the ditch and took her to the hospital in his car. That is where all his problems started. He naturally got blamed for everything and since Ale had lost her sale, lost the money from the Apartment, had tons on medical expenses, Rafa got stuck with the 5 million peso bill. Marco was the lawyer who handled everything. He also had to put up his mother's house as colateral.

Hope that helps.

Anon- It was also quite obvious that Ale was living well above her (already privileged) means and was heavily in debt because of it; while Rafa was working hard just to make ends meet (supporting his mom and sis, his sister's tuition, utilities, groceries, etc.) and was in debt because of it.

Another important beginning piece is in order for Rafa to make his monthly payments to Ale, he started working at Siglo partly because he couldn't find anything else and partly because their was an opening. Rafa had fallen in love with Ale the moment he carried her out of the ditch. It took Ale a little while to fall in love with Rafa, but the ride was great fun for all of us viewers.

Just to add a little, I did watch this show at the very beginning, and I think the wedding itself was about $225,000.00, which if course is VERY expensive (although my wife told me about some wedding on TV which was $1 million!). With everything else, it came to $400,000 (5 million pesos). And really, most of this would not really be Rafa's "fault" in a court of law, if you ask me. But they threatened him with jail, and he also decided to be a man about it, and not question the specifics, rather he just agreed to pay it ALL, so they could have no way to question his honor.

Sorry for the late post but I wanted to thank you for your recap and vocab Pata!

Karen, never to late to comment. I think I was wrong about Ale's big deal. I think the client was backing out and she was all distracted over this because she owed so much money and was counting on the comission.
