Dinero #141, Friday June 25, 2010

Hi, all! I'm sorry I won't be able to recap tonight. I am out of town and probably won't be back until late Sunday. I tried to give early warning but this trip kind of sprung up out of nowhere. Comment freely about the show and have a great weekend!

Well, we will miss your recap, but have a safe trip!!

Flores, don't worry. Have a great time and come back safely.

Thanks to the commenters, too, who are so valuable in helping me understand the conversations which seem to zip by at warp speed.

Hi Flores. Kudos to you for being able to set up a discussion spot long distance. Enjoy your trip and traveling mercies.

Have a good, safe trip Flores!

Ok, you guys are going to crack up over this video. A very young Ale (Itati) and Jaime (Bibi) in a telenovela from the early 90s (and loking very late 80s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhKsYST-MDY

Enjoy! Lol!

Haha Vivi what a great clip!! She's got awesome gravity-defying hair. The white eye-liner is absolutely heinous.

Yeah sylvia, isn't the makeup hilarious. And sorry, Jaime's name is Rodrigo Vidal. I thought the name Bibi in the title was referring to him, but it's an actress in the background. Notice Rodrigo from Corazon Salvage is also one of the church attendants. But Itati's look is the only one so over the top. :)

Ok very brief recap.
Rafa has his days counted: one month till his wedding with Vicky.
Chavez consults the case with a penal law attorney. His ride to Siglo isn't the smoothest. The taxi driver drives Rafa around nearly crashing into numerous vehicles until he zips through a red light. The car that the taxi driver cuts in front of passes the taxi and cuts off the taxi's path. Arcadia has CCTV in all of Siglo installed. The first victim of this new technology is Bebe. She catches him taking a snooze and calls his extension. Bebe is confused and searches everywhere for the hidden camera. (Don't you hate those types of bosses). Some men get out and when the taxi driver is in trouble he blames Rafa! Fortunately the cops arrive just in time. Rafa has the money and realizes that if he is caught with the money he is finished. So... of course he runs... (aqui corrio y no aqui murio). At the office Jimenez is leaving early for personal reasons. Turns out he is going to the doctor for one those male-only tests. Marino swears he will never be caught taking one of those tests. Rafa finally arrives at Siglo and shows the money to Ale. She is surprised that the money is in cash. Ale tells Rafa to put the money away until she can get the paperwork in. Ale callls Marco and since Chavez isn't back yet Marco stops Ale from taking the money just yet. He tells her to wait until he gets everything in line. Meanwhile Ale asks where Rafa got all the money. (he sold his soul to Vicky). A call from Marian comes in. Of course Ale hears and Rafa attempts to put the call on speaker. Ale steps out. Marian calls to know about the trucks. Rafa hasn't made much headway. Marian gives Rafa 24 hours to sell those trucks. Rafa tells Susana to tell Ale that the call is over. Ale's house is in trouble. The house is in foreclosure. Rafa overhears Ale's problem, but he is on his way to see Beltran. Rafa wants to leave the money in the office but Ale does not want to be responsible for it so she orders him to take it with him. Chavez returns and has some good news for Marco: Even if Rafa pays the whole amount off he is still in hot water. Chavez tells Marco to have a little "chat" with Medina. Rafa is in Beltran's office and tells him all about the trouble he is having selling Marian's trucks. He asks Beltran if they can fix up the trucks in Siglo and then make some money reselling them. Rafa estimates 150,000 are necessary to fix them up. Beltran is not impressed... until Rafa tells him the margin of profit. Eventually the Rafael Medina/ Autos Siglo partnership is born. Rafa can buy the trucks for 850,000 and Siglo fixes them up for whatever it takes. Rafa looks suspisciously at the bag with the 4.5 million...
Just then Marco gives him a call. Marco warns Rafa that the penal suit can still go forward. Marco humiliates Rafa again. Marco warns Rafa: pay and stay away. Marco and Chavez laugh at the intentions of Rafa. Jaime wants to know about Julieta. She is still feeling down. Jaime suggests a doctor and Julieta is worried. Julieta exits stage bathroom. Rafa calls Jaime and after the usual guilt ranting from Jaime Rafa finally gets a chance to ask Jaime to consult a penal law attorney about the case. Jaime promises to call Rafa back with that information. Jaime asks for a few minutes. Marco and Chavez are busy scheming. Ale calls and asks about the headway Marco is making with the paperwork she is worried that Rafa will lose it or that he will spend it on somethng else (trucks anybody). Ale reminds Marco that it is him and her family that wanted her out. Marco assures her that he is on top of it. Ale then drops the foreclosure bomb on Marco and tells him that starting tomorrow she will be there with or without authorization. Marco is left speechless.

Advance: Marian wants to get together with Rafa...

I hope I caught most of the events... I was typing furiously as the show was on. Signing out... Private 057

Vivi: The whole scene is hilarious. You can watch it here at the moment 0:51 :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vReWgugel0E

That novela was a big trainwreck but kept everybody watching it since it was never boring.
(In the end it shows a funny clip of Lucero acting the Part of Maria Paula from "Lazos de Amor" during the Heraldo awards from 1996)

Biby Gaytán is the lead from "Dos Mujeres Un Camino". She was HUGE beack then (like Thalía kind of huge), that's why there's lots of things about her in Youtube, she retired after her marriage to Eduardo Capetillo (Hornacio from STuD) and has only appeared in a couple of roles as his love interest since then. Her fans are still mad at him.

Thanks for the recap Private O57. Nice job getting all the action! It's always nice when that jerk Marco is left speechless.

Way to step up to the plate Private 057. And a very nice thorough job. Thank you.

My recording was interupted by a severe wheather announcement, torenado warnings so missed the whole taxi ride. We still have warnings in the state but none close to where I am.

I am certainly confused by the whole Jullette thing. Not certain what is going on there.

Rafa just go put that money in the bank!!!!
And thanks again Private 057

Vivi, that clip was so funny. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Oh and Flores have a great trip!!

Wow Private 057. Where have you been? Muchas gracias. Muy bien hecho. I was getting so nervous during the taxi ride I just had to turn it off. Glad you hung in there and got everything "mystery man or woman".

Great job Private 057! Please join us more often, if you haven't already done so as an Anon.

Judy- I would have been nervous during the taxi scene too, if I hadn't seen in the preview last night that he makes it to Ale's desk with the money. So I was free to chuckle during that whole scene, especially when Rafa took off running clutching his bag of cash with the cops and angry men from the other car hot on his tail. Now, who knows what will happen in the next many hours before Marco finally comes with the paperwork!

I am really worried about Julieta. Jaime decided to buy a pregnancy test, even though he said to the pharmacy guy that they didn't do anything (cositas). He thought that perhaps it was one of those university guys- suspecting Julieta was perhaps seduced by one of them. But that seemed to be a passing thought, and then when he was at the house with Julieta he began to really worry that it was something other than pregnancy and wanted her to go to the doc, but she refuses. And when she ran off to the bathroom she looked like she was in pain, not just nauseous. I fear something is really wrong.

Thank you, Private 057, for the recap and it was up so quickly. Thanks for clarifying that the taxi driver was blaming Rafa. I completely missed that.

That was the taxi driver from Hell. Brings back memories. I have a friend who used to turn around to talk to me as she was driving. And I was sitting in the back seat.

So Julieta isn't pregnant as I had speculated but it could be something like an appendix problem. Just speculating...I don't want it to be anything too serious for Julieta.

Thanks for the clip, Vivi. My, a lot of familiar faces there, some looking better and some not. Itati...not...with that funnel thing on her head, shades of Marge Simpson. Yikes.

Thanks for the recap Pvt. 057! Haven't seen the show yet but I got home and was eager for details and thanks to you, there they were!

I'm impressed this show has kept us guessing about sex and its consequences for both Vicky and Julieta. It has been a lot of fun that we have been kept in the dark.

So sad when I can't even spell my own name.

But I love Barbar! Reminds me of those children's books my kids loved. It could be your new on-line moniker, Barbara.

Judy, are you thinking of Babar (the elephant)? I don't remember any of the storylines, but the illustrations were charming.

Thanks, Private 057! So much of that went over my head. I was very nervous during the taxi ride scene. Wish I had known that everything turned out OK so I could have enjoyed the humor a little more. I'm going to have to pay more attention to the previews!

Can hardly wait to see the clip of the old telenovela. Thanks, Vivi.

Private 057, thanks for stepping up with this nifty recap. Good job. How thoughtful and generous of you. Have you been with us long? You are clearly very familiar with the show and the characters.

I think we may have had that same cab driver years ago, but at that time he was working in Puerta Vallarta. He hasn't changed a bit.

Yesterday I was convinced that Julieta was pregnant. Today? Obviously she needs to get to a Dr. and right away. I'm still leaning toward pregnancy, but if that's the case or not, clearly something is wrong.

As for that cash, looks like it could be useful on several fronts. Will it end up being over-committed? This looks like a job for Hombre.

Carlos

Yes Barbara...that's the one. I loved the illustrations too. Fond memories of reading to the children ooooo so long ago.

Mil in NC...glad you were as antsy as I was during the taxi ride. I don't do anxiety well, even manufactured anxiety.

Carlos...let's get both Vicky and Julieta to the doctor and then bring back Ruby!!!!

Private 057 here again. Glad to mknow evryone is happy. I've mostly flown under the radar as an anon. But hey I thought I'd give myself a name this time. I was typing as the action was going on. Thanks for pointing out the pharmacy scene. Guess I just forgot to go back and recap that part. Signing off... Private 057

Well welcome aboard, Private 057....you sure were a big help. Hope you'll keep flying above the radar from now on and help us out when we're baffled by the Spanish. You clearly understand the language very well.

Thanks a lot Private 057. Weather knocked out my satellite and missed most of the show. Thanks for filling it in. Looks like I missed a very entertaining one.

Thanks for the recap Private 057. It was a fun episode, especially all of the craziness Rafa had to go through to get that money to Auto Siglo.

I'll be on vacation all next week and won't be able to comment, but I'll be back after the 4th to get caught up.

gracias para todos

Vivi, Just looked at the YouTube clip of Itati. That was fun. Definitely cannot figure out what is going on with that hair. There must be a Marge Simpson hairdo beneath. I forgot you said Jaime was in this clip as well. I kept looking at the groom thinking who is that? I know I know him--LOL.

Can anyone be more specific about the details of the used truck deal? (Hombre?) It seems like Beltran was saying that Auto Siglo was not in the used truck business and weren't interested in the trucks. But then they are interested in repairing them for Rafa ? That doesn't seem logical. I know logic is unnecessary in a telenovela but I like knowing what I am supposed to believe.

Yes, Barb, Beltran was saying he wasn't in the used truck business and wasn't going to fork over any money for them. But when Rafa explained the money that could be made by fixing them up and reselling them (as Private 057 explained) Beltran saw the "money money money" that could be made by repairing them in Auto Siglo workshops and then reselling.

BUT Beltran's still not going to fund the buying of the used trucks from Marian. Rafa will have to find the money elsewhere. That knowledge, followed up by Marcos' phone call that paying off the loan to Ale still won't get Rafa's mom out of potential legal trouble is making Rafa hesitate. Should he use Papa La Parra's money to buy the trucks rather than pay off Ale?..dunde dun dun.

Hombre's on vacation or he could probably explain this better. But sum total, as usual, Rafa's between a rock and a hard place. It never ends!

Great recap, Private 057! I missed the show because I was on vacation (a relaxing family reunion in West Virginia), so your recap was terrific. Thank you so much for jumping in.

Judy, I think you explained the truck situation just right. Although Beltran may go along with fixing the trucks and having Rafa sell them on company time, in return for sharing the profits, he's not going to help Rafa buy the trucks. I think the repairs were in the neighborhood of $8,000, where the purchase price is $750,000 pesos, or about $60,000.00.

I think Rafa has about $400,000 in the bag, so he could easily buy the trucks, but then he couldn't pay Ale in full. Could he buy the trucks and then get a bank loan with the trucks as security? It's unlikely anything will work out that neatly. Usually, there's always something that goes wrong, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

For example, Julieta, instead of being pregnant, could need an expensive operation.

Having missed a day, I can't wait to see Monday night's show.

Thanks Judy for your explanations and Hombre for you affirming and adding to this scenario.

I got it now though I'm aggravated by the lack of details. I know I am over-thinking this thing and need to let it go. But Rafa needs money so badly that the laissez-faire attitude that he has entering into this deal seems just too dangerous. Auto Siglo is not willing to help buy the trucks but they are willing to become a car repair shop for Rafa. Is Rafa paying normal customer cost for these repairs? Is he giving a percentage of his profit for these repairs? What is that percentage? What if the repair is very significant? Will these trucks come in one by one or would they overwhelm the service section of Auto Siglo? Where are these trucks going to be stored until sold? My guess would be that Rafa knows or could find someone to repair these trucks cheaper than a dealer. If Auto Siglo is not helping with a cash investment, why should Rafa bother with them? Sorry all, I know this really is not important, I need to go with the flow--but it bugs me.

Thanks Private 057, you did a really nice job!

Barbara, don't worry, I am in the boat with you! I too tend to overthink these situations. I am always asking my boyfriend, why doesn't he just do this or why didn't he do that and he looks at me like, "Look woman, why are you getting so upset, it is a NOVELA!" but then he smiles and just says, "No Se". Gotta love him.

Interesting isn't it?...how we get so involved in these novelas. I'm always horrified when I find myself thinking about "them" during the day (or night) and trying to work out in my mind their best course of action.

Barbara, may I ask a little about your career. Sounds like you handle the financial end of something!? Those are very good questions and one I would never think to ask. I tend to overthink the emotional/relational aspects and bemoan the fact that people aren't "active-listening" or listening empathetically...or shoot, just plain listening at all!

You're all correct that the details of the deal aren't really what's important -- but one more comment. I think that part of Beltran's hesitation is that their franchise doesn't allow the sale of the used trucks. He said something about the rules not forbidding him to use the shop to fix them.

Thanks again Private 057 for stepping into the breach. Good job!!!

I just noticed one more thing. Private 057 pointed out that Marian gave Rafa "24 hours to sell those trucks". So all that fixing and dealing and commissions might be out the window. We may have completely new deals after tonight.

For the male audience members, the previews seem to show Marian in that bikini again. Now THAT's important! :)

Private 057
Rafa has 24 hours to sell the trucks. He has 4.5 million in cash. My guess is that he himself will buy those trucks and then have Siglo fix them up. However, this means that Rafa and Ale will be stuck together for a little while more thanks to the debt. Another thing that hasn't gotten much attention is the fact that Arcadia got CCTV intalled everywhere. Just another guess but I think its another setup for Arcadia getting to know her employees just bit more. It also helps for useless scennes though...
Can't wait for tonight's episode.
