El Clon #80, Tue, June 8. Everyone is horrified about something or other.

Abdul is horrified by the immorality of the neighbor - a woman running a business, alcohol, indecent clothing, and then she has the audacity to want to shake his hand - Haram! Mo tries to calm him down. When the coast is clear, Zamira helps Nariza sneak out.

Osvaldo gives Karla a temporary club pass and thinks that now she should do her part and drop charges. No way. She wants more money. He pays, and she tries to get Ozzie to set her up with Daniel.

Amina is at the mall waiting for Nariza. Latifa gets to her first. She tells Amina that when Prince Amin was born, Mohammed promised, in writing in front of a sheik, that he would not take a second wife. It seems that Nariza has misled Amina. Amina leaves and Nariza arrives. Latifa tells the Naz that Amina went to the bar to see Pablo, she’s in love with him, and she asked Latifa to help her get together with him. Nariza is horrified that Amina betrayed her that way. Sorry, friends, no hair pulling tonight. (Would that be considered trichotillomania by proxy? Trich. is an OCD characterized by obsessive pulling of one's own hair.)

Alej tells Naty that he thinks Marisa hates him so much that she’d do anything to keep them apart. Naty says that Mama is so miserable that she wants to spread misery around (good observation). But it doesn’t matter because Naty loves him. He also doesn’t want to accept the job from Leo because people will think he’s with Naty as a meal ticket. She convinces him to accept.

Jade tells Ali that everything is proceeding well, and soon she can be with Lucas. He tries to warn her of the dangers but she’s sure he’s mistaken. He also tells her that if she leaves Said to be with Lucas, he will have to break all ties with her. The way he says it is, “close the doors of my house to you.”

Marisa takes Lucia along to make her report to the police. She lists the various people who could’ve had access to her room, and why she thinks they are not guilty. And then, as if the thought just occurred to her, she remembers Alejandro as a possibility. Luisa at some level realizes what she’s doing and is horrified by the thought.

Osvaldo and Estela try to console Dora about Daniel. She says that he never let her get close, and that he’s packing right now to move to Albi’s. Ozzie gives Daniel a very touching speech about how he always wanted to be Danny’s father. Danny is polite but not touched. He is excited that he will finally get to know his father and know who he is. Take it from me, Tutz, you’d be better off with Osvaldo.

Albi barges in on Lucas and starts asking him strange questions. “Do you have an insatiable thirst for life?” (I think that’s called a leading question.) Lucas says that he’s not being his true self. He’s living in a mask that his father created. He says that when they were kids, Leo took them to see the movie The Prince and the Pauper. It was about identical twins, one with wealth and obligations and the other with poverty and liberty, and they swapped places. After that Lucas always dreamed of having a clone so he could swap places too. Albi concludes that Daniel is an exact duplicate of Lucas. Enrique comes in and tells Lucas that Marisa wants to milk him for everything she can get.

Estela asks Daniel why he’s in such a hurry to live with someone he doesn’t even know, when Dora loves him so much. He pipes up that it’s their fault that he doesn’t know Albi.

Luisa is showing Anita around the lab. The Chump steps up and gives Luisa flowers to thank her for what she did for Alicia, the job.. Luisa doesn’t let him finish because she doesn’t want Anita to hear. Then a scene in which Clara reminds us that she’s furious at The Chump.

Alej and Naty arrive at the house. He doesn’t want to go in, for fear of encountering Marisa. She insists, and they go inside. Immediately abandons him in the front room while she takes Rosa to help her change (at 18 you need that metiche to help you dress?) Of course Marisa walks in at that moment and spits her usual venom. Naty comes out in her own purple broccoli band dress, and Alej pretends nothing happened.

Amina tells Jadiya and Said that she wants to return to Morocco (Latifa’s plan seems to have worked). Jade enters and asks Said up to her room. Amina runs to tell the news to her sister, who assumes that Said is going back to Jade’s bed and she’ll never get to be First Wife. She begs her sister to stay to help her attract Said back.

Jade asks to keep Jadiya, and he says, “No way!” She tries flattery, and he says he doesn’t want his daughter to turn out as badly as Jade. She says he’s more rotten than she is, and that she’ll get the witnesses so he’ll get his 80 lashes. He tells her she can do what she wants, but this time she will pay the price for what she’s done, the most expensive price, Jadiya. He goes to Rania’s room and she dances for him. Pretty boring in her shapeless smock and pants.

Leo and Amalia arrive in Miami, and she wants to accompany him to the hospital to see his sick uncle. Leo slithers out of her grasp; he vants to be aloooone, Darling.

Cristina and Vicky talk men. Cristina’s kiss with Pablo, and Vicky's time with Pedro at the gym. Cris says she hasn’t thought about Leo all day. What is it about this show, that they love matching names? As if the whole cast had twin names! Alicia & Amalia, Pablo and Pedro, Luisa & Lucia, Clara & Karla, Alejandro & Fernando. It’s driving me nuts! The only names that are different are Escobar and Raul, and they’re the same person!!!

This scene is funny. Leo asks Enrique about Cris. He asks why Leo doesn’t do his own dirty work. Leo says that if this whole thing (the suicide threat) is another of her tricks, Enrique should call the company accountant and tell him to stop paying her rent. Riq is stunned that Leo has been paying her rent. “Oh,” Leo adds, “and also stop paying her utilities, and her cell phone, and her credit cards, and he monthly cash payments.” Enrique is more stunned with every new revelation. Then Leo decides to tell her himself, and tell her there is no chance of them ever getting together again. Yeah, right, and the pope ain’t Catholic, Moses ain’t Jewish, and telenovelas ain’t stupid!

Fernando and Andrea are talking when Lucia comes home. She tries to call Roberto and is angry that his cell phone is turned off. Some of Fernando’s things fall on the floor, and Lucia sees his joint. Roll credits. Oh, I’m sure he was just carrying it for a friend.

Many thanks, Paula, for a terrific recap. Your snark is in fine form. "Take it from me, Tutz, you’d be better off with Osvaldo." "Yeah, right, and the pope ain’t Catholic, Moses ain’t Jewish, and telenovelas ain’t stupid!" And I, too, have been wondering what's up with all the similar names. I loved your comment that "The only names that are different are Escobar and Raul, and they’re the same person!!!" I guess there's no matching name/character for Albieri--he's clearly one of a kind!

I still don't see where the clone plot can go. The idea of Jade falling for Daniel is way beyond my beanie's ability to handle. Then again, if she can consistently think that she'll be able to have Jadiyah stay with her in spite of a zillion warnings from just about everyone, she could probably fall for Daniel. Blech!

Excellent recap, Paula, of a pretty boring episode.

Latifa finally used her brain instead of just whining and since characters in telenovelas always believe what other people tell them even when the tellers have an obvious ulterior motive, her plan has worked so far. Too bad Amina isn't levaving town but with Latifa's kids opposing a second wife and shadowing the Naz, hopefully they can keep Amina at bay.

When did Vicki kiss Pedro? The only time I can remember them together is when he brought her to Pablo and introduced them.

I thought the scene with Leo and Enrique was funny, too with Leo reluctantly admitting each of the ways that he has supported Cristina all these years.

Sorry, Jean, I had false parallel structure on that sentence and I corrected it. Chris kissed Pablo and Vicky was with Pedro at the gym.

Not that any reality should intrude under our beanies but just for yuks, I looked up immigration and citizenship information.

A citizen of Morocco has to get a visa to enter the US. It can take several days to get an appointment to apply for a visa and about 60 days to get one if there aren't any problems. So unless folks like Ali, Said, Abdul and the Naz already had a multiple entry visa to the US, there's no just hopping on a plane to Miami from Fez.

Presumably, Mohamed has some kind of legal status to live and run his business in the US.

Now citizenship. Anyone born in the US is a US citizen. That means of Jade's and Latifa's children, the only one that is definitely a US citizen is Amin. Jadiya and Zamira were born in Morocco.

I always thought that anyone who had a parent that was a US citizen became a US citizen automatically but it is not that simple. If the child of a US citizen is born abroad (after 1986), the citizen parent has to have lived in the US for at least 5 years 2 years of which were when the person was over 14. Weird, eh? So Jadiya could claim US citizenship based on Jade's living in the US until she was 18 or so. Poor Zamira, who probably wants to be a US citizen more than anyone else would have to apply to be naturalized.

Thanks for another fine recap, Paula! Trichotillomania by proxy, indeed!

I'm not usually one to challenge the writers -- I kind of feel for them trying to churn out a chorro of episodes in what I imagine is a very short time. But Lucas's waxing nostalgic to Albieri about how he used to imagine he had a clone...puh-leeez! He already had an identical twin!
---------
I was all set to go to the Miami airport to wave goodbye to Amina -- lástima that Rania persuaded her to stay!
----
So if it's haram for Tío Abdul to shake Gloria's hand, what is it for Said to shake Marisa's ... um ... whatever?

Thanks, Paula. That was a very well written recap. Loved all the snark.

I'm starting to lose hope about Jade and Lucas. Ali is usually the calm voice of reason, and if he keeps telling her it won't work out with Lucas, he makes me believe him. If Jade doesn't end up with Lucas, I'm going to be extremely disillusioned.

If I were Rania I wouldn't be best pleased with the stony face Said showed during her dance.

Frankenalbi looked the craziest he ever has while questioning Lucas about his proclivities. Can't see where this is going either. He's going to have to "fess up" to Luisa before Daniel arrives.

Could we get a city bus to run over Abdul? The idiot is outraged because people in Miami behave according to their culture, not his 10th century principles.

I want a huge anvil to fall on Karla. Ozzie has made a complete character turnaround and is now a very positive figure. The greedy witch needs to be stopped.

Speaking of greedy witches, I'd like to see Marisa in the hands of Doña Bárbara, perhaps having made a play for Santos Luzardo. Dipping her in the lake full of piranhas would do the trick nicely.

Jade is sure that given a choice, Jadiya would pick her. But what if her daddy told her, "Darling, I will let you pick. But if you go with mama, you have to give your gold back because I gave that to you, not mama. And mama won't be able to get you any gold, since she has no money, no job, no skills, etc. And by the way, my dear, mama won't be able to find you a young, rich husband either. If you're raised by a woman with her history, you'll be lucky if you get ANY husband, even a 60 year old goat herder."

With that lesson in economics and sociology, who do you think Jadiya would pick?

Interesting point, Paula. Jadiya, our Stepford Wife In Training, Moroccan Style, has always bothered me with her talk about gold and rich, handsome husbands. I'm not sure which would be worse:

a) To have Jadiya calculatingly reject Jade, deciding to follow the money and the future rich husband

b) To have a wailing, heartbroken Jadiya wrenched out of Jade's arms by an grimly implacable Said.

Since there's no way Said is going to give Jadiya to Jade, the only alternative I see is:

c) To have Jade flee with Jadiya and find a really good lawyer, NOT Enrique!

Paula, thanks as always.

Jean, my mother was born in Maine but went with her parents to South Africa when she was a teenager. I applied for a green card and got it very quickly. I know of other deserving candidates who wait for years.

There isn't much about soccer (football??) on US TV but Latin America is crazy about soccer. So I'm amused to see the coverage of the World Cup Soccer in South Africa that starts on Friday.

Actually soccer isn't so big in SA either - its mainly rugby and cricket! The Brits took their favorite pasttimes with them throughout the British Empire. The USA escaped long before the other colonies.

Lynne

Loved the recap and all the comments. ITA! to all of it!

As for Karla, I keep thinking that maybe Osvaldo needs to find a lawyer and explain his situation to him then see if Karla couldn't be accused of extortion and then we could come to some conclusion maybe a standoff with this garbage. A storefront lawyer --any lawyer-- would be a heck of a lot cheaper than paying that trashy b!tch every month!
