Dinero #159- 7/22/10: A War In Iraq! Who Knew?! or Blame It All On Chavez

Marian has arrived at Rafa’s house early in the morning to make him an offer. She can’t stop thinking about him. (She takes his hand.) She wants him. (Rafa starts to get uncomfortable and Marian starts to back off.) Errr…she wants him to come work for her. Rafa explains about the resume debacle and needing to stay at Siglo till the end of the month. Marian will wait. Rafa accepts the offer. He's all hers.

Marco and Rubi also have an early breakfast meeting at a restaurant. She is ticked that he and Chavez sent her to that awful place with bombs falling everywhere. Marco innocently claims he didn’t know there was a war in Iraq. “Who knew?” He places the blame on Chavez, since it was his idea. Whatever. Rubi wants to talk business, and specifically about the hacienda. She’s more interested in it than ever (uh oh). And she wants to live there with her Georgie. Marco tells her that’s impossible because Jorge doesn’t even have a house now, much less the hacienda. Rubi departs, but first lets Marco know that she’s going to check if his story is true. If not, he’ll find out what she’s capable of!

Marco’s soul mate Chavez (if either of them had a soul) has just landed in Mexico, disguised as a bearded, turbaned Arab to throw the po-po (that’s police for those not in the know) off his scent. He calls Marco up. “I’m here!” He tries out his fake Arab accent and gets five pesos from a passerby for his efforts. He tells Marco that he has to see him right away, he will meet him at Marco’s apartment , and hangs up before Marco can say anything to stop him. Marco rushes off to divert Chavez before he ruins things for him with Ale’s family.

As everyone arrives at Autos Siglo, Marino is assuring them that there’s a new boss in town and they’ll all know soon enough. He threatens Dandy that he’ll be the first one to get the boot. The sales team wants to know what Marino knows, but he tells them cockily to have patience. Just then Ale breezes in, looking very lovely and relaxed for someone who’s supposedly just gotten axed. Marino tells the team that she’s likely just there to pack up her stuff.

Ale greets Susana and finds out that Rafa is already there and wants to start the sales meeting as soon as Ale arrives. Susana goes to rally the troops to the sales meeting room. Marino insists that they don’t have to go to any meeting run by Rafa and Ale. Ale walks up just then and tells the whole sales team that Marino is right. They don’t HAVE to go anywhere, but she tells Susana to prepare the paperwork for disciplinary action for all of them. Everyone, except Marino, starts to make their way quickly to the sales room. Rafa comes out and wants to know what’s the hold-up. Ale tells him about Marino’s mutiny and Marino starts to get indignant and up in Rafa’s face. Rafa stands his ground and gets right back in Marino’s face. Soon both their jackets are off and they’re ready to rumble. The sales team holds them back and Ale tries to reason with them to stop.

The fight ends with them both putting their jackets back on and Marino putting everyone on notice that Rafa and Ale will be fired soon and he’ll be the boss. Ale tells him that she and Rafa are indeed the bosses. Marino walks off muttering, “We’ll see.” He runs into Beltran’s office whining like a five year old and annoying the heck out of Beltran. Beltran informs him that Rafa and Ale are leaving at the end of the month, giving him enough time to find reasonable replacements (sorry Marino, that means it’s not you). Beltran kicks him out of his office telling him to go do his job, meaning sell some cars and make Beltran some money, money, money.

Back at Marco’s place, he’s just managed to catch the still disguised Chavez before he enters the apartment where Rosario and Jorge are having breakfast. He hustles Chavez away just before Rosario and Jorge open the door. It seems that Rosario knows the voice of that slime Chavez and is sure she heard it. Jorge wonders if she’s starting to imagine things and has her hold up four fingers, which HE counts (lol!). He declares that she’s fine and they go back into the apartment. Marco and Chavez return to the hallway in front of the door and Chavez declares that his voice is distinctive like the late Pavarotti’s, and that’s why Rosario recognized it. Marco doesn’t buy that, and neither do we. They go elsewhere to talk. They head to their favorite bar where Marco explains all that has happened with Ale and her family, the house, and their moving in to his place. Oh, and Chavez has been fired as administrator of the hacienda and Marco’s taken over. Chavez quickly catches on that Marco has stabbed him in the back and laid all the blame for the mismanagement of the hacienda on him. He is not happy with his soul mate. Marco claims they have bigger problems right now. Both Quintana and Rubi want a cut of their depreciating resources. Marco needs Chavez help to solve these problems. Chavez pouts and wonders how he can be of any help, now that he’s been cut off from his ATM (the hacienda). Marco gives him some cash and tells him to get to work. He then calls Rubi after Chavez leaves.

Rubi just happens to be having a meal with Quintana, getting the real scoop on what’s been going on. They are both sure that they have Marco and Chavez just where they want them, in the palm of their hand. When Marco calls, he tells Rubi they need to talk business. Quintana immediately then receives a call from Chavez telling him that they need to talk business. Quintana and Rubi agree that they will make Chavez and Marco pay dearly for all they have done (especially sending Rubi off to that war zone).

When Quintana and Chavez meet, it appears that Chavez is hurt enough to switch sides. He tells Quintana that Marco is not to be trusted. Quintana is all ears. Marco’s and Rubi’s meeting is not so easy. She wants what she wants, and that’s Jorge and the hacienda. Marco distracts her by telling her what bad shape Jorge is in. A concerned Rubi wants to know what happened to her Goergie. “Que tiene? Has he said something? Has he asked for me?” Rubi wants to go see him right away at the apartment. Marco slows her down by reminding her that the ladies of the household won’t be so happy to see her. And they can’t meet at the hacienda either. It’s in as bad of shape as the bombed out houses in Iraq. Marco will take care of setting up a meeting with Jorge. “Trust me.” Rubi is not so keen to trust Marco again after what he did to her. “It’s not my fault. It was Chavez!”

Back at Siglo, Ramirez and the rest of the crew want to know if the rumors are true that Ale and Rafa were fired. Rafa, surprisingly, decides to tell the truth (at least part of it) to stop all the rumors before they get worse. He admits that there were untruths in his resume about his education and degrees, and that Ale is suffering the consequences since she hired him (he says nothing about her being the one to make up the resume), and they are both leaving at the end of the month. After the meeting Claudia gives them both a Judas kiss and tells them she will miss them both. Bebe’s same sentiments are actually real, and the General thinks they’ll all survive. Ale tells Rafa sarcastically that he better start searching for a new job, because she knows marrying Vicky Vicky Vicky won’t be cheap. Rafa one ups her by letting her know he’s already found another job, and walks off. Ale and Susana are left open mouth impactada.

Susana lets Ale know that she failed at her attempts to get Dandy to talk. Ale guesses that whatever Rafa’s group of amigos has going on is pretty serious. Susana doubts that Nelson (Dandy) could ever do anything to hurt her. Ale thinks they need to get the information out of Jimenez or Pepeto. Outside, the Four Amigos meet to discuss the latest plan (while Dandy keeps a steady pace on the revolving car pedestal). They remind Rafa that time is running out, and he’s still got to put a stop to his wedding and Ale’s wedding. And now he’s lost his job too. Rafa lets them know he’s already found another. And it’s with Marian Celeste. The boys are impressed, “Ay, mamacita!”

Rafa pleads with Dandy. He’s his only hope. “I’m in your hands.” Dandy doesn’t want to do anything that will hurt his relationship with his Nonicita. “If my Noni finds out, then we’re through.” Rafa assures him that he’ll cover for him. He hands him Carmela’s address.

When Dandy arrives at Carmela’s office, he finds her busy at work with her usual retinue of female assistants. All work stops though as soon as she catches sight of Dandy. Carmela likes what she sees and so do her assistants. “How can I serve you?”, she purrs. Dandy drops some lie about representing a company that will help her improve her archiving system. Carmela wants whatever he’s selling, unfortunately she’s just about to leave for a business trip. If he leaves his business card, she will definitely call him as soon as she gets back and they’ll check out that archive system together. “No business card? Well just lean over my desk here and write down your name and number.” One of the assistants takes this opportunity to squeeze Dandy’s Charmin. Carmela has Dandy make a very SLOW exit, while she and her assistants take time to appreciate the view. Carmela swears that she won’t let him escape her. When a not so guapo guy then comes into her office asking about the Hacienda Alejandra, he doesn’t get such a warm greeting. (Who is this guy and what’s going on with the hacienda now?)

Jaime has a chat with his buddy Jesus. It’s either sin (lying to Rafa and everyone), or death (at the hands of Rafa and Vicky’s brothers). “What do I do? Answer me!”

Susana’s also wrestling with doubts. She remembers Ale’s words about Rafa and his amigos and their “perversions” with women (toying with them). She goes into Rafa’s office wanting to know Dandy’s whereabouts, since he has an appointment with a client. Rafa is a terrible liar, and tells her that Dandy is with another client, Ortiz. When Susana calls the supposed client Ortiz, she quickly finds out that this is a lie. Susana immediately goes to Ale with her doubts. Ale of course fuels the fire, detailing Rafa’s and his friends’ perversions. Susana tearfully says that if it’s true, she’ll NEVER forgive Nelson (uh oh).

Susana later confronts Rafa about the truth about Dandy. Rafa explains that they are not up to no good, but Susana is done listening if he’s not going to give her a real explanation. When Dandy arrives she gets more upset and heads to Ale’s office, leaving a perplexed Dandy and an exasperated Rafa. When Rafa explains to Dandy what happened, Dandy is panicked. He does not want to lose Susana and sees the only way to avoid that being to tell Susana the whole truth. Rafa stops him and asks for more time, but Dandy draws a line in the sand. Either Rafa tells Ale the whole truth right now, or Dandy tells Susana!

Tomorrow: Marco arranges a meeting between Rubi and Jorge, who look very happy to see each other. Rafa blurts out some hard truths about Marco to an impactada Ale.

I really enjoyed tonight's episode! And what a great recap Vivi! So tonight we have three people who don't trust Marco... that simply cannot bode well for him.
The one concern I have is that Susana and Dandy are going nowhere fast!
Rafa really couldn't cover up for Dandy any better?
Looks like Dandy finally got some guts to force Rafa to tell Ale the truth. I don't think Ale is going to but it though. She'll probably demand hard proof.
And one important detail that I found pretty interesting. I think we all forgot that Rosario mailed Urdiales an invitation to the wedding. Will she find out that Urdiales doesn't kknow Marco at all?
Well more thoughts in the morning.
Signing off... Private 057

What a great rundown of tonight's events. It was as riveting and fun as the show. I was able to enjoy it twice.

War in Iraq? Who knew? LOL!
Squeezing Dandy's Charmin. Double LOL!
Marian with Rafa-how uncomfortable. I felt bad for her.
The guy after Dandy at Carmela's.....who's that?
Jaime, when will you do what's right?
Rafa couldn't do better covering Dandy's back? Tsk tsk
Finally -- the truth will come out! Maybe.
But with no proof, bet Ale won't believe it--at first.
Hope it will be good enough for Susana though.
Looking very forward to our next episode!

Pata- I'm sorry I didn't get to comment on your recap earlier today (it was as funny as the episode). I had a super busy day today. And I'll be on the road tomorrow morning/afternoon driving to Jersey for a conference, so I won't get to read these comments until late tomorrow night. :( I have to say, I have loved all the Dandy time we have been getting. His facial expressions just crack me up. How does he roll/twirl his eyes like that? And Rubi is back and causing trouble again. Yay! It's funny how ruthless she is, but at the same time has such a soft spot for her Georgie.

I am still perplexed about the Vicky pregnancy, but kudos to the writers for keeping us guessing. I think they have a surprise up their sleeve for us on that issue. The indications of pregnancy we have had so far looked like Vicky was faking them for Rafa's and her family's attention. We never saw them do the deed. And we know that Vicky is bat shit crazy and capable of doing anything to get Rafa, including faking a pregnancy to force Jaime to help her. But she has never wavered in her story to Jaime, and now she has those test results (but we never saw her take the test). Hmmm..... It's a head scratcher for me.

Hi Vivi. We DID miss you yesterday...always enjoy your comments.

And of course your recaps.

Like Barbara I loved your "squeeze the Charmin". And come to think of it, the fellow who used to squeeze it reminds me of our pompous Marino-flunkey at Auto Siglo.

My other favorite line was "soul-mate" (if either of them had a soul)" and Claudia planting a "Judas kiss." Excellent description.

Last night WAS fun. It's good to have Rubi back, good to watch Marcos squirm frantically and I love Chavez in sheik disguise. Thought he was quite fetching with his head wrap and sunglasses. The dashing mystery man. Think Carmela might go for THAT!?

Wishing you safe travels today, an air-conditioner that works, and a restful evening tonight. Thanks, Vivi.

Thanks Judy. :)

I forgot to include in the recap that Marino backs out of his three car deal with Claudia because he didn't get the results HE wanted. Serves her right (you lie down with dogs...), but Marino is such a jerk.

At least he's consistent! (can't think of anything else positive to say about him)

Hi Vivi, thanks for the great recap, and I loved the title. I hope you have a safe trip today.
It will be interesting to see what happens tonight after those promos.

Thanks Vivi, great job, of course!

I don't think that Claudia is really bad, I know that she helped Marino, but it really looked like she didn't want to, just needed the sales. Last night she looked sincere (to me) when she pecked the guys and told them that she would miss them. She looked full of regret, but what do I know? But she was really pissed with Marino for taking back his sales and I think that he will pay dearly for that little trick.

Love Rafa, but loved the way that Dandy stood his ground and said that he wants to help Rafa, but not at the expense of losing the love of this life, so sweet!

Hopefully, if Ale doesn't whole hearted believe Rafa (and we all know that she won't), at least some doubt will be planted, and maybe she will start putting 2 & 2 together. ;)

Thanks Vivi. Great job. Your title cracked me up. Very funny recap as well.

Barbara, I'm pretty sure that other guy who wanted to see Carmela was Quintana's friend and confidant with whom he hangs out with at the Oasis. He may even be a business associate. I think that he may be snooping around on behalf of Quintana, or perhaps eve his on purposes.

On Wed., I noticed that the TV at Rafa's place had on a Pedro Infante movie, which I'm pretty sure was Los Tres Huastecos. I guess they never turn the TV off.

Carlos

Thanks for a great recap, Vivi! I missed the first half of the show, but you hilariously highlighted all the hijinks. Thanks!

Kat, I agree with you. Even if Ale doesn't get convinced by what Rafa says about Marco, there will be some doubt. So far, although she's no longer attracted to Marco, she completely trusts him, as do Jorge and Rosario. A little doubt will be good.

What a fun episode and another clever recap. Loved the soul mate remark.

The Rafa/ Marino fight was fun. Rubi is fun to watch and she's going to shake things up quite a bit. I enjoyed the little bit at Marc's apartment when Rosario thought she heard Chavez' voice. It was so cute when Jorge told Rosario that she was imagining things & to prove her sanity asked her to hold up 4 fingers which he carefully counted & declared her OK.

I feel bad for Dandy & Susana but I hope that the preview really means that Rafa will have to come clean with Ale-- even if, as you have all noted, she won't buy it right away.

That guy that showed up at Carmela's office was sent there by Quintana. They met at the usual bar with the perpetual drunk (who looks a lot like this dude, I think.) Do you think that the innocuous drunk will one day be important. He's been in the background for all of the conspiratorial conversations in that bar.

Güera

Thank you for the recap Vivi. Your title is the funniest I've ever seen on this site so far. Lol.

I agree Guera, I think that the drunk will come into play at some point, and probably won't even realize it, lol.

Thanks for the fantastic recap Vivi! What a fun episode! There were so many great scenes - everything with Rubi, Dandy in Carmela's office, Dandy forcing Rafa to tell Ale what's going on, Rafa's fight with Marino. And I don't know why I thought it was so funny, but I was cracking up at Dandy walking on the revolving pedestal. Looks like tonight's episode will be another good one! If Ale doesn't believe Rafa, I hope at least Susana will be brought into the posse.

Tracie, that is brilliant, I don't know why they haven't thought about that. I know that Carmela loves men, but she gets along better with women, Susanna may be just the player that they need.

Thanks for this recap Vivi. I haven't been watching this but now that the bad guys are squirming I might have to catch an episode now and then.

I think Susana would be a great help to them. Kat, I love your idea that Susana could get info out of Carmela! I hadn't thought of that - I was just thinking that she could help convince Ale not to marry Marco. Rafa and Dandy need to talk to Susana asap and put her to work! And Zetina's been doing a lot of spying, but he needs to get some solid evidence.

Tracie Kat.....you are both brilliant. Get Susana in there. The man thing isn't working. Maybe she could get Carmela interestd in the Inverted Lotus Venus position or whatever the heck it was, and while she was holding it, she could rifle through the files.

That is hilarious Judy! Love it!

i missed Friday. no recAp?
