Anybody in for blogging Eva Luna?
So far we have only ONE volunteer for Eva Luna - Elvira! But she can't do Eva Luna alone. Any other takers? If not, you'll be getting one recap per week. (Thank you Elvira!)
Labels: eva, recappers-needed
It looks like Eva Luna is going to be on between Llena de Amor and Soy tu Dueña. (8 pm, 7 central). Unless they change the times or something.
I'm sort of looking forward to Eva Luna because I've never seen Guy Ecker in anything and I've heard he's good, but I'm pretty attached to recapping LldA. I hope we get some volunteers, even people who want to try it once or twice but not commit long-term. It makes the shows so much more fun.
I am interested in Eva Luna because, like you, I've heard of Guy Ecker but never seen him in anything. I keep on hearing how great he is. I think it's interesting that he's actually an American who broke into the TN market.
Dona Felipa
I'd be very intrigued by Eva Luna if I had Univision.
Jarocha
I am fascinated with the idea of Eva Luna, in part because Ecker is a gringo, and in part because like Jarocha points out, this is a first production for Univision. Probably they will really work to make it the best that they can. (I live in hope, anyway!) It looks very slick from the trailers and previews. Also, I've never seen a telenovela set in the USA.
I wish there wasn't the confusion over the name Eva Luna, though. Even Wikipedia thinks that Guy Ecker is starring in an adaptation to the Allende version, since they link to a page about Allende's "Eva Luna."
Usually, in what I've seen, when a network starts their first novela they tend to put as much quality in the story, actors, sets, etc., as they can because they want to make the audience interested in future productions. It's only when a network has done alot of telenovelas that they get lazy (like Televisa).
As far as I know Te amaré en silencio was the first Univision telenovela (in 2003), and to be honest, it was waaaay far from high quality... :) Hopefully Eva Luna will be better.
It looks like Unvision is promoting this as its first "primetime" telenovela. I guess that is the distinction.
"As far as I know Te amaré en silencio was the first Univision telenovela (in 2003), and to be honest, it was waaaay far from high quality... :) Hopefully Eva Luna will be better."
I can only remember that EY was in that one. I thought it was produced by Telemundo. I got the impression that Univision was touting Eva Luna as their first production, my mistake. Oh well, who knows now.
Jarocha
Maybe you could ask her Jardinera? I believe she comments regularly on Dueña.
She helped out a lot on Mi Pecado when recappers were out of town or snowed under. Sometimes doing two recaps a week. Really a trooper.
And if viewers like the show there'll be recappers. It's a romantic-dramatic primetime telenovela with Guy Handsome Ecker after all. The whole La Mentira Para Siempre Fanclub will watch it.
I keep on hearing about the wonderfulness of Guy Ecker, and this only fuels my anticipation to see this telenovela! LOL.
Perhaps a discussion of the show the first week might be a good way to kick things off if not enough recappers sign up right away.
I just want to give a disclaimer here—I'm looking forward to recapping, but I don't want to overstate my skills here. Some days are pretty decent, other days it seems like I miss quite a bit.
(I do think my comprehension can depend on the environment present when I'm watching. If someone is in the room, asking me to tell them what's going on, distracting me, my comprehension goes way down. Needless to say, when I'm writing a recap, I'll make sure no one else is around! LOL.)
So anyway, as long as everyone knows what to expect from me, then I'm raring to go! Just please everybody, fill in the blanks that I miss. I'll be relying on you all!
Bring on November 1!
I knew that when I saw the Eva Luna promotions and wondered what they meant. I was thinking it could have been a different production company, like for Marielena and Guadalupe in the 1990's.
But the IMDb definitely shows Univision as the production company for TAES. The location for Marielana and Guadalupe (1993) are Miami, but TAES was made in SoCal.
IIRC, Bambi was blacklisted by Televisa for a number of years after making Guadalupe. All three of these telenovelas star EY.
The production companies for the earlier two are: Capitalvision International Corp., Televisión Española (TVE)
"...Real friends and colleagues were not the only people who helped me in the writing process – so did my imaginary friends. It so happened that December 15, 2003, the day I began to write this book, was also the day of the world premiere of the first Spanish-language telenovela produced and filmed in the United States, Te amaré en silencio. From then on, every weekday at nine the incomparable Eduardo Yañez and Ana Carolina da Fonseca accompanied me on my journey to the world of emotions in a language not my own..."
I remember Jardinera said she and her husband watched TAES, so I'm thinking it was at 9 p.m.
La Paloma
btw, if anyone recognized them, the lady who plays matilde, Eva's aunt, is an older actress from Puerto Rico, her name is Sonya Noemi Gonzalez (shows Sonia Noemi as her name in the credits) and Don Julio (Jorge Lavat) I remember from way back in 'Los hermanos Coraje', he played one of the 3 brothers. Did they say in El gordo y la flaca that the house they are using is actually his property or were they referring to it being his in the novela story?
