La Verdad Oculta #028: Dora drops the tea tray

At Juan José's, Asunción tries to convince an irritated Carlos that they're digging for water -- in the kitchen. Carlos is mostly interested in how Matos's trap went awry, though, and gets the old man to explain about the prospective buyer interrupting it.

Medina has Juan José reluctantly sign an agreement to sell his house for $3 million pesos, with an eye to completing the details the next day -- and Medina's other eye on Elsa. He's interested and hopes to see her again.

At the club, Julieta is still peeved with Gabriela, who continues along this line by ticking Carlos off, too. She suddenly won't go out with him again, period, frustrating him. At Juan José's, he disappoints Asunción with news of the house sale; but Asunción succeeds in convincing him to keep digging till the last minute.

Roberto encounters the angry Carlos abusing a vendor on his office phone and relieves him of the need to fire Gabriela with the news the sisters are moving to Baja California. They both decide to get their hands on the girls before they leave; and Carlos will secure a certain wristwatch Roberto desires, if he helps him with a plan.

Carlos relates Matos's intention to put Juan José back in prison for another eight years -- and something weird he encountered visiting Asunción: finding them digging in the kitchen, supposedly for water.

At the tunnel house, Marcos and Susana accidentally tear open the black shoes while breaking in again -- and to their gleeful astonishment find diamonds inside! They know they must be stolen, but think it's ok since they're from L.A.

At Mario's, Bertha irritates Alejandra, haranguing her about Mario possibly dying without a will and leaving them destitute. Alejandra insists David wouldn't let that happen. Later Roberto visits with Bertha and when asked explains David's and Carlos's interest in Gabriela stems from their rivalry, with David's not being sincere. He claims Carlos really has a case on her, though.

Bertha wants to meet Carlos. When Alejandra enters and explains she's going to work, Roberto assumes privately that at that hour she's meeting someone instead. At his office, Carlos phones and furiously berates Matos about the frame-up snafu and wants results.

Medina comes by Juan José's as promised; and while Asunción answers the door, in the kitchen pit, Juan José finally hits pay dirt. His head is swimming with visions of golden sugar plums, as he hyperventilates and bellows up the shaft for Limón. He can be heard from the front door to repeat "We found it!" over and over.

Asunción rushes to the kitchen to celebrate, and then they sheepishly exit to greet a perplexed Medina, both of them grinning and cackling like monkeys. When Juan José happily throws it in Medina's face that he won't sell him the house, the architect leaves, understandably incensed and sorry he ever helped Juan José.

Matos phones the scum bag from his office and rakes him over the coals, just as Carlos visits to discuss their further plan. Matos says but for the accident of the architect overhearing the morons discuss their procedure on the street, it would have worked. Matos promises to think of a foolproof method this time.

The bewigged Marcos appears at a jewelers to fence one of the diamonds, and he's glad to get $10K pesos for it and exits. The jeweler turns right around and phones a faithful customer to come see.

In a visit to Alejandra's office, Medina relates the fiasco with Elsa and Juan José, and she explains the same thing happened to her with them -- and to someone else she knows. Just then Elsa enters to see Mina, but instead gets an invitation to a serious discussion over coffee with Medina.

Back at the jeweler's, the faithful customer is no other than Yolanda. He shows her the exquisite stone he just acquired, which he says is surely stolen -- and offers it to her at the great bargain of $150K pesos. Meanwhile, over a messy table full of food somewhere, Marcos and Susana squabble over how to proceed next.

Asunción and Juan José labor and dream over their treasure pit and pile up 200 bars of bullion, amounting to about 1000 kilos of gold, they decide. Juan José wishes Piedád could share it and remembers he'll buy her gravestone.

Over coffee, Medina explains the house-sale breach of contract; and when he wonders if Elsa's in love with Juan José, she denies it. Despite that, he doubts Juan José is really what she thinks he is. If she wants him to back out of the contract, Medina says, Elsa is going to have to explain the whole story of Juan José to him. She's unsure how much to say, because Alejandra's family is involved in it, which surprises Medina.

David and Gabriela meet in the park, where she stubbornly turns down every option he can pose to keep her in town. He pulls her close, asking in a husky whisper whether she means to just abandon him.

At Mario's, Bertha and Dora have a power struggle over cleaning his office; only Abelardo is allowed in there, Dora insists. Bertha orders her to bring tea, and she exits as Alejandra enters and explains the embarrassment of getting Medina involved in the house-buying fiasco.

After a moment Mario enters, followed by Dora; and when he asks who the owner of the house is, as Juan José Victoria's name is pronounced, Dora's jaw drops open and she lets the entire silver tea service crash to the floor.

Good morning Jeri.

Thank you for getting this posted so early and of course, for the links.

Your attention to detail, your ability to describe the characters and their situations with both insight and humor is truly impressive: "...an eye to completing the details...and Medina's other eye on Elsa", "His head is swimming with visions of golden sugar plums..." and my favorite, "both of them grinning and cackling like monkeys". Excellent!

While thrilled Juan "hit pay dirt", I was sorry Medina got hurt and even more so, that Elsa once again seems to bear the brunt of others' suspicion and frustration.

I shudder to think what "They both decide to get their hands on the girls before they leave" will mean. Suffice it to say Carlos has definite anger managment issues and cannot take no for an answer.

I chuckled at "Bertha wants to meet Carlos". Now, there's a match made in hell...:)

What a small world that Yolanda has been summoned to see the diamonds. I have to give her credit - she was fairly expressionless and did not appear overly anxious when examining the diamonds (no need to loupe those!).

So, are Gabi and Juli ever actually going to leave town?

Will Medina consent to pull out of the deal?

So many questions - so many possibilities.

Thanks again for the marvelous recap Jeri.

We have such a wonderful group here - fabulous recappers and always interesting comments.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Hi, Diana! :-) Thank you and I hope you have a good weekend, too!

I think the girlz are never leaving town, so I never spend much time on those side plots.

However, it does make for some good drama. I always swoon when David declares his love for Gabriela and gets her in his arms. Woo. The park scene was short but very sweet. Got the shivers again.

Who is Dora to Juan Jose? She said she has been working at the house for 11 anos and that the amount of time JJ was in jail so, i wonder if she is a relative of his.

Thank you for the summary and the links, Jeri!

They found the gold, found the gold, found the gold! At last! :) EY's shouting was a bit frightening, but their joy was contagious.

However, Medina has a very bad opinion of JJ now, and he's right. I also would've thought he was an untrustworthy, ungrateful jerk.

Wow, Dora slowly transforms from an obscure maid (who's may be David's mom) to an intriguing character who knows much more than we would've guessed.

ebony, I was a bit surprised at Dora's figure of 11 years, too; so it made me also wonder. Now that she dropped the tray at his name, I don't know what to think.

She's not from Veracruz; she's from somewhere else. She said in an ep I recapped; I could look it up, but it will come up again if it's important.

This is such a good TN and Jeri and Aribeth are tops in their recaps, which accounts for my continuing to tape and watch it before STuD despite all the cambios in scheduling.

Everything that happens in LVO could actually happen without having to suspend belief. We're not regularly readjusting our beanies to fit the whims of the writers and directors.

I still don't understand why the network kept this under wraps for so many years. So far, there's been nothing risque or excessively violent.

All the acting is spot on terrific. I've enjoyed the contrast in the actors playing such different characters as Fabian aka Flippy on STuD and as Roberto; Harry as What-is-name on Dinero, as Ives on Amor Real and here as Leo. Unfortunately for me, because I adooore him, Gabriel Soto has been exactly the same in all three venues I've watched--Querida Enemiga, Sorti and LVO, a little on the wooden side.

Dora's reaction to Juan Jose is going to be fun to watch, hopefully tonight or very soon. I ike the way LVO doesn't drag out the stories from people's past the way other TNs do. I hope it's the same with Dora.

Ebony and Jeri: Excellent point about Dora. Given the timeframe of her employment, how does she know or know of Juan?

Anon: What a good eye you have!
I saw parts of Amor Real (loved what I saw) but never made the connection that Leo was Ives (and what a role it was!). It's fun to share info on other roles the actors played. Thanks.

Diana

Thanks so much Jeri for the great recap and links.

I really adore little Caramelo. Poor darling she was upset that her new dress got dirty.

Even I was so excited when JJ found the gold. I was grinning and laughing right along with Asuncion and JJ. What a great scene when they were trying to act normal to face Medina when what they really wanted to do was jump up and down and scream and laugh. Medina was looking at them as if they were crazy.

Here's hoping that Marco will buy a better wig now that he has all that money.

I don't think Carlos loves Gabi after that spoiled brat tantrum that he threw. He just wants her coz David does. I was sympathetic to his character up until now. He is showing another side that is a bit scary.

I was so happy to see David and Gabi together (again). Let's hope that they don't lose their tempers again, lol.

Who is Dora and what does she know.
Is she maybe the dead girl's mother? Just speculating, don't really know. She reacted strangely when she saw Roberto and now when she heard JJ's name.

Jeri, your wonderful recaps enhance this very entertaining novela and of course, my comprehension.

Each episode seems to end with some sort of cliffhanger. Now how are JJ and Dora connected?

I loved the "Me encontro" "Me encontro" and delirious joy of Juan finding the gold. We had the obligatory caveman yelling and hopefully that will fill the quota for this novela, please. Anyway, I enjoyed the giggling duo scenes with a super annoyed and puzzled Medina.

I am surprised the diamonds appeared so soon and as stated, isn't it nice to not be strung along for an entire novela to see some resolution. I can't see Marcos being knocked off but if Yolanda shows Adolfo the diamond, Marcos is in deep cow pucks. That is also not the way to eat Chinese food.

I am enjoying all the acting and Gabriel Soto is playing his role so well. And you can really feel the attraction that the two characters, David and Gabi, feel for each other.

I really don't know how they are going to fence gold bullion. Marcos is going to have enough trouble with diamonds, which are easier. Seems like gold bars are going to be a can of worms.

Jeri-

I loved this recap and the episode. Everyone struck gold (or diaminds). But I did feel sorry for Elsa, once again her integrity is put in doubt through someone else's actions. But I liked that Medina's "punishment" of her was to take her out for coffee. I'll take that kind of punishment any day. :)

Here's my theory on Dora. She worked in Mario's hotels 11+ years ago as a way to stay close to the family with which she had left her child. At the time of the murder she was one of many maids on staff of the hotel, so she knew JJ, the dead maid, and the young Carlos and Roberto who she saw around the hotel. That's why they all are familiar to her. Soon after she managed to get a job in Mario's house to get even closer to David. That's not a spoiler. Just my guess for what makes the most sense.

Jeri: Thank you for the recap.

I also felt sorry for Elsa looking bad to Medina and Alejandra. I'm glad that Medina was still nice to her at their coffee date.

I also suffered from seconhand embarrasement when Juan José and Asunción were grinning and acting like idiots in front of Medina. I understood why they were behaving like that but I almost couldn't watch.

I thought it was a nice touch that the bullion had a little dent where the had presumably hit it. Nice attention to detail there.

I did laugh at Marcos claiming that the diamond was an old jewel of his aunt's. I loved the constrast between him and Yolanda.

sorry, I meant where the shovel hit it.
