La Fea Más Bella #57-59A 10/22/10 One dream ends, one dream begins, one dream is both delightful and dreadful.

Read Kim's original recap, the section called “Missing Recap 39: Paradise Lost.” Then come back here to discuss it.

Capitulo 57

1. Marcia tells Ali that Fernando won’t let the cuartel in; he would never go against her orders. He lets them in and tells them to watch from the hall, but they go backstage. Lobo brings the kids because Jaimito has homework questions. Marcia harps on Fernando because he disobeyed her orders.

2. On the phone, Pop tells Lety he’ll pick her up in an hour. Lety begs Tom to go along and not let Pop enter the building – who knows what he could say?

3. Jaz dances in the show. Lola and Jaimito distract her and everyone trips. Felix and Saimon jump in with a hoofer routine. Lola and Paula laugh like hyenas. Luigi fires Jaz as a model.

4. Omar warns Fernando to keep Lety on his side and not let Marcia do damage..

5. Ariel arranges purchase of an apartment in Miami, but it will only be a temporary arrangement.

6. Ali and the cuartel face off. Ali threatens legal action if they don’t give her the results, because they ordered the test and released confidential information. Sara counters: only if she tells everyone she’s not pregnant.

7. Marcia tells the cuartel they entered the event to mock her (it’s always Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!). She stomps her little foot and tries to crush them under her heel, but Fernando intervenes and tells her they stay. He erases the shadow of Marcia by privately telling Lety how valuable she is.

8. Alicia mourns the loss of her dream, an apartment in South Beach or marriage to Omar. She says it’s all the cuartel’s fault. She tells Marcia and Marcia is suspicious. She tells Omar and he celebrates that he’s free of her. She tells Ariel and he keeps the results as evidence. He orders her to leave the country tomorrow. Those three are the closest thing Alicia has to friends.

9. Tomás tries to impress a group of dancers. The portero won’t let him enter without an invitation. Tomás says that he’s a partner in FI and novio of Lety.

Capitulo 58

Read Kim's original recap, the section called “Missing Recap 40:.In which everyone forgot their chill pill.” Then come back here to discuss it.

They cut the whole first half of this episode. Be grateful! It was almost all blither. I'll leave in my notes for the part that was not broadcast, but in blue. The part they left in was absolutly packed! That's why the scene notes are so long.

1. Jazmín and Paula play tug-of-war over Saimon. It sounds like Jaz promises the jackpot, but that pushes Paula's buttons and she turns on the heat. Saimon takes her to an antro, and she gives him a chance to charm his way back into her good graces. They leave there to find someplace more "intimate."

2. Fernando’s parents leave. Pop is satisfied that Conceptos is doing well; he only hopes they can recover what they lost (boy howdy!). Mama wants to see the lovebirds stop fighting.

3. While Lety says goodbye to Fernando, the portero brings her a message from Tomás Mora, partner of FI and her novio. Lety attempts damage control; she fails. Lety is mad at Tom. He jokes, “Is it going to make your boss jealous? Will I make you lose your romance with him?”

4. Fernando and Omar hunt for solutions. Lety’s novio could leave them on the street. Omar proposes three solutions, and Fernando shows why each one is unfeasible. Omar says the only viable and surefire solution is for Fern to enamorarla. Fern says he can’t – she’s like a squash with a mustache that pokes.

5. Erasmo doesn’t want Lety to be with that kind of people at that kind of event. That world is not right for her. Lety says it’s not her world, it’s her job.

6. Fernando tries to diffuse Marcia’s enmity against Lety because otherwise it will kill their relationship. He says that she helped gain tonight’s success and she deserved to enjoy it. She’s an important executive. If she were a man, Marcia wouldn’t have a problem with her. He thinks the rivalry is absurd, considering Marcia’s beauty and class. Marcia is offended that he thinks it’s feminine competition. Fernando pulls out his trump card. He says that she can keep fighting if she wants, but he’s going home. Marcia folds.

7. Lety tells her diary that she should’ve told Fernando about the partnership with Tomás from the beginning. She doesn’t want him to fear for his company or think she’s hiding things from him. What she really wanted was to tell him that she invented the Tomás story to hide her love for him, and he’s the man of her dreams. Fernando and Lety have similar dreams, but Fernando’s is a nightmare. Both dreams center on a kiss.

8. In the morning, Julietta says that wakening with a good dream means that you’ll have a wonderful day. Marcia tells Fernando that telling his nightmare will keep it from coming true. If he doesn’t tell, he must want it to come true.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Up until now, the episodes have duplicated the original exactly. Today, they cut the first half of Cap 58, skipped most commercial breaks, and got 75% through Cap 59. Who knows what they'll do next? The part that is missing from my scene list - the part that should've broadcast on Monday - I won't be able to write that up until late tonight.

I have decided to keep the original episode numbers, so it's easier to match the new postings with the old recaps. So that means, for example, even though we only saw two hours of show today, I've labeled it as 57, 58, and 59A. We'll start Monday with 59B. I know that's going to be a little confusing. But if I reflected the new episode breaks, it would be even more confusing. Bear with me. -Paula

Capitulo 59-A

Read Kim's original recap, the section called “Missing Recap 41: The one where two guapos fight over Lety.” Note, that recap covers the entire episode. Friday's broadcast covered about 75% of the episode.

1. An unimportant scene but very funny. See transcript. Marcia tells Fernando that Alicia got a job offer in Miami. Paula and Saimon arrive together. Jazmín responds to the news nobly.

2. Ariel orders Alicia to resign. She can’t – she needs the job. She reads him her letter of resignation. It refers to his sexual blackmail, sabotaging Lety’s computer, and forcing her to report company secrets. Ariel’s beaten this time; he tells her not to resign.

3. Fernando gives a mountain of reasons he can’t enamorar Lety, and Omar has an answer for every one of them. See the list below. Omar demonstrates how differently Lety responds to Omar vs. Fern, to prove that the task is Fernando’s.

4. The triumvirate and Marcia have a production meeting. Fernando scopes out Lety, trying to imagine getting close to her. Lety says FI and Conceptos will have trouble making their loan payments.

5. Sanchez suggests to Tom that they finalize the embargo. I suspect that means to get a Judgment, and FI would become full owner of Conceptos. (Or maybe he asked whether to continue or retire the embargo.) Tom tells him not to. Sanchez wants to meet them tonight.

6. Fernando and Omar hear Lety arrange to see Tomas tonight. Omar says Tomas is moving fast. Fernando has to start his mission TONIGHT.

Fernando's Excuses

Fernando certainly is creative! In cap's 58-60, he comes up with no less than sixteen reasons he should not enamorar Lety. And Omar shoots down every single one of them! Here are the 16.

  1. I don’t know how to enamorar a fea. She’s like a squash with a moustache. O: with enough whisky, any woman looks beautiful.
  2. It should be you. O: No, I did my duty with Alicia and almost got a son.
  3. You should do it, Omar. A. You’re not her boss, B. you’re not about to get married, C. you have no scruples, and D. you’re the grand suductor. O: No, you started this mess. And that’s irrelevant. What matters is, who has the best chance of winning her? Before Tomas showed up, I would’ve sworn she was in love with you. Besides, if I flirted w/ her she’d suspect something fishy.
  4. I can’t do this to our Lety. I can’t play with her emotions like that. I can’t build up her hopes and then send her to the north pole. She doesn’t deserve that. It’s a canallada (rotten thing to do, detestably base) against someone who follows me unconditionally. How can I betray that? O:Would you rather betray your family by losing the co?
  5. How can I romance Lety, with Marcia so close all day? O: You do with models all the time. Lety’s right in your office. Do you really think Marcia will suspect Lety?
  6. Lety knows I’m engaged. She’d never go for it. O: Lety knows you love your car more than Mar. She knows your marriage is more of an obligation than a desire.
  7. No, no, no, no, no. NO!
  8. Lety has principles. She respects Marcia. She’d never get involved in a problem of this level. O: To a woman like Lety, poor, ugly, old maid; if a galan like you appears.. F: I just don’t think she’ll go for it. O: Then try it and find out. I say she will.
  9. What if I make a play for her and she rejects me? What if I’m not her type? The situation would get worse than now. O: No, it would be better. She’d know you like her.
  10. What if she accepts? O: Then you’ll have a little romance. The beauty & the beast.
  11. When your mission was Ali, she’s intolerable, but at least she is as God intended. Lety, I don’t even want to touch her hand. To kiss her? Blech! Her whiskers will poke me! O: Then you need desensitzing therapy.
  12. Okay, but I need to adapt to the idea. Like maybe a year. O: No, Tom is beating you to her. Today
  13. It’s a joke, right?
  14. If only she was just slightly pretty. O: But one of those wouldn’t be your loyal ally.
  15. How can I seduce a fea? O: Imagination.
  16. What if it gets to the point that I have to acostarla?

Comments:
What is wrong with the cuartel?! They need to think! Let Alicia continue her ruse, then Alicia gets taken care of and stops whining, Ariel gets cheated, and the company is rid of Alicia. Win/win/win!

Beware. I think the board is eating posts today. Be sure to save a copy before you hit "post," in case your post gets lost.

Paula & Saimon in the antro. She says she wants to go to heaven, but Saimon says he's broke. Huh? He lives alone, so they don’t need a hotel. Any ideas?

When Fern and Omar are at the bar searching for solutions, Arana (Omar) steals Camil’s line, then he sits there looking lost. Fernando waves the business card in his face, saying “Can you see it? Can you see it?”

Marta, help me. At Marcia’s apt, Fernando says, “Lety no es una más del cuartel. Es una ejecutiva más importante de Conceptos, como Omar, Luigi, etc.” I know it means, “She’s an executive that is more important to Conceptos, LIKE Omar, Luigi, etc.” But can the wording also mean, “She is more important THAN Omar, Luigi, etc.”? As a double meaning?

I will have to go watch it tonight, will post the answer tonight or tomorrow morn at latest with the spanish lesson. Will try to get a spanish lesson too for the part of 59 viewed today.

this is what he said in YSBLF at that moment...
Arm: ... She is an important executive at EcoModa! As important as is Mario, as Hugo, as are you!

Marta, if you're willing to do part of 59 TOO (!!!), I'd love to have the scene when Fernando, Marcia, and Lety step off the elevator, near the beginning of the cap. Nothing significant, but it's a delightfully funny scene - Camil is firing on all cylinders. I'll e-mail you the details.

is this stepping off the elevator at beginning of the day after the 'show'?

As I’ve said, Lety and Alicia are equal and opposite. We got a mega-dose of that today. Alicia’s dream ends (Miami or marriage). Lety’s dream begins (you have to enamorarla). Alicia is loudly rejected by her two lovers. Lety has two of the three important men in her life talking about having a relationship with her.

Ah, the genius of Gaitán! Here's another example of it. When Lety talks to Tomas after the event and she’s so angry, he teases, “Are you afraid you’ll lose your chance at romance with your boss?” Of course, he’s precisely right. And strangely enough, it is that moment, when Tomas is defined as her boyfriend, that GIVES Lety the chance at romance with her boss. Her brain has been working overtime, even her dreams have been searching, as the song says, “I must think of a way Into your heart.” Little does she know, when Tomás presented himself as her novio, that was the way she has been searching for.

Yes Marta, exactly.
Start: Fern: Mira. Mira que bonita.
Stop: Fern: Miami? Sri Lanka would be better.

equal and opposite... or predictor phrases..
Omar has been testing Fernando's 'faith' in Lety by saying things like 'a fea would be willing to sell her soul to the devil in order to get someone like you to marry her'... and what has she been doing? basically selling her soul to the devil. first by lying and lately by doing things that she knows are 'wrong' if not illegal altogether... all to stay by the side of the man she loves. And all since Juana's prediction set her hopes high and gave her a 'ray of hope' about her and Fernando.

Between night an morning, look at all the parallels between Fernando and Lety!! Their paths are converging. They are becoming more connected to each other.

1a. Before bed, Lety says, "I wish I could tell him he’s the man of my dreams."
1b. Meanwhile Fernando recalls Omar saying, "You have to enamorarla."

2. The two of them have virtually the same dream, but for Fernando it's a nightmare. The focus of both dreams is a kiss.

3a. MamaJ says that wakening with a good dream means that you’ll have a wonderful day.
3b. Marcia tells Fernando that if he doesn't tell his nightmare, it will come true.
I think it's reasonable to assume that both MamaJ's and Marcia's predictions will be fulfilled, in the same event.

4. In the elevator in the morning, both Fernando and Lety pucker up, remembering their dreams from last night.

Kim just sent me a screenshot and I added it to the page. Thank you, Kim!

Marta, you're so right! Sell her soul to the devil. We can't post spoilers here on Caray, but we certainly can point to the foreshadows after they are fulfilled!

In the same vein, I have two more, both from Cap 1.
1. Humberto & Teresita are standing in front of a large painting, The Fall of Troy, just before his retirement. The Spanish phrase, “Troy is burning,” means that a great catastrophe is unfolding.

2. Ariel said, "What if Conceptos ended up in the hands of a woman? Bankrupt for sure."

Paula and everyone, thanks for the guidance and comments. If they start condensing, that's both good and bad. I hope I can start watching on a regular basis.
La Paloma

Paula,I for one was glad they cut alot of the cartel out today. It seemed like in the first run there was this really long boring part at the launch. All the important parts seemed intact.

The dream scenes are very funny. One persons dream is anothers nightmare for sure.

I agree with Julia. The cuartel are much busy bodys. They should have left well enough alone. Weren't they the ones that started the pregnancy runor anyway?

Thanks again Paula.

Had to miss today, so I need to catch up and get back. Thanks Paula and Kim.

Interesting to see how things are falling into place to almost force Fernando to pursue Lety romantically.

More than anything though, I am touched by her father's protectiveness and her mother's tender lovingkindness. I know we're supposed to see them as "over-protective" but I find it sweet. Up till now, the one positive constant in her life, amidst all the cruelty and ridicule over her appearance, is her family's unwavering love.

Paula, you're right, they do throw the word 'mas' in that line and it could definitely be interpreted both ways 'Lety is MORE than Omar, Lopez... even you and me' (and when Fer said 'as you or as me' he almost whispered it since he knew Marcia would have a fit if he compared Lety with either of them. And Omar kept on imitating la india maria, at the end of the ep we saw friday he did it again and Fernando just smirked/smiled at him as if he was trying to hold back the laughter because he did not expect the 'accent'.

Thank you so much, Marta! I just love when I discover a double entendre! They're hard to catch with my limited Spanish.

As for Fern's reaction to Omar's India Maria, I think that helps answer what Sylvia asked on Thur's post. Was the cast able to improvise much? I think so, considering how often an actor is obviously surprised by a line. I think Sergio and Avila (Luigi and Tomas) improvised a lot of their banter. Camil improvised a lot as well, and also he had to think fast to recover a scene when Arana (Omar) blew a line. You can always tell when that happens - Arana sits there with a dumb look, waiting for someone to rescue him. In one horribly botched scene, the one where Camil almost broke his hand (for reals!), Arana actually pointed to the teleprompter and said, "Where are we?"

The other evidence for improvisation - foreshadows and double entendres must be said precisely. Often when Fern is sitting at his desk and he states a foreshadow, you'll see him glimpse to his left, either to the director or the teleprompter, to confirm that he said it right. Which means that the rest of the time when he DOESN'T check to the left, he's following the script loosely. Does that make sense?

I thought the parallel dream scenes were hysterical. In Letty's Omar is standing behind the couch with this sappy isn't this romantic look on his face and in Fern's dream Tomas was standing their sniveling. In reality the two of them should have been in the opposite dream especially since fern has not yet met Tomas.

As for the cuartel thinking - they don't know how., There entire existence is full of eating and gossiping. As has been pointed out they were the ones who got the whole pregnancy thing rolling in the first place.

As for the ad libing. LFMB is full of it. All actors who get training in good schools do a lot of improv work which keeps them on their toes. Omar was a tad off his game in the beginning but does pick up speed. One of the real charms of this novela is the by play between the two men. It reminds me of the old Carol Burnett show and how Tim Conway consistently broke up the rest of the cast who fought heroically not to laugh out loud or blow their own lines. Anyone else remember those?

Oh yeah, Decie Girl, I remember Harvey Korman being a basket case half the time because he couldn't stop laughing!

Ah - you know what, whenever Fern glances sideways after stating a foreshadow, I always think it's the character's way of silently adding "knock on wood" or "heaven forbid." But yeah, Camil was probably trying to confirm that it was a good take!

Arana was often awful with his lines (or maybe just confused by Camil's ad-libbing), but I found it bearable because of his dimples. In the small about of BLF that I saw, I couldn't stand Omar's counterpart at all. (Didn't like Armando much, either.)

And really, these long conversations with Omar exist mainly to give us a chance to hear Fernando's thoughts. That's where most of the action is, in terms of his ever-evolving feelings towards Lety. So Omar's lines are often little more than prompts for Fern's feedback, and it doesn't matter all that much if he screws 'em up. :)

When PM tells Saimon she wants to go to heaven and he says he's broke, could they have been referring to a swanky nightclub?

Or maybe by "broke" he meant too tired? Because I can't believe how late these people stay out and then go to work early the next day. (Maybe I was that young once too; I don't remember!)

What bothers me most about the cuartel is their schadenfreude. How they gleefully cackle when Alicia or Jaz suffers. And you're right, the cuartel started the pregnancy thing. Alicia tried to clarify to both Marcia and Omar that she was not pregnant, but nobody had time to listen to her. When she saw she might snag Omar, she ran with it.

At the antro, Paula: Let's leave here. Saimon: Where do you want to go? Paula: to cielo!!! Saimon: No tengo dinero! But they obviously spent the night together.

Julie, good point about Arana's botched lines. In fact, I notice it mostly when he steals Camil's line because those are harder for Camil to recover. I just realized Fernando often says a nonsequiter to Omar. It's probably that Arana botched the line and Camil is answering what Arana SHOULD HAVE said. But you're also right, those dimples can cover a multitude of sins!

IMPORTANT!!! Don't miss Monday's show!
I just realized, with the condensed show Friday, we'll see at least part of #61 Monday. You don't want to miss it. Trust me.

Thanks for the heads up about Monday, Paula.

GinCA

Yes, thanks for the heads up about Monday. I'll be sure to watch it carefully.

I really enjoyed this episode. Even though Fernando acts like he is repulsed by Lety it seems he is also somehow irresistably drawn to her. Omar has now put the idea into Fernando's head that he should seduce Lety. Sometimes once an idea gets in your head it's stuck there for good; and, positive or negative, he sure is thinking about it a lot.

EXCELLENT point, Sylvia - sometimes when the most seemingly horrid idea is planted, you can't stop obsessing over how awful it is. Next thing you know, it's taken root and grown on you!

Marcia: I was very clear with you all when I said you could not come! What are you all after? make fun of me or what??
Juana: Ay no, Dona Marcia, don’t you say something so horrible …
Marcia: nothing!! There is no valid excuse! You all would have never dared come without your support, Leticia… if it was not for the support of this one (pointing to Betty).
Bet: Eh … forgive me, Dona Marcia, if you let me I will explain …
Marcia: They never were as daring until you arrived to the company! But now they feel they have support… I don’t think it is overkill saying it because HERE I give the orders! She might be Fernando’s assistant but she is just another employee! (to Lety) And if you are going to declare war on me then I would like to know that already, because I will have to show you who is Marcia Villaroel. And if this will get to the point of one of us leaving… guess who would that be.
Let: Dona Marcia, I don’t want to dare you…
Marcia: Then? And what are you all here for?
Sara: We came to give you some news, Dona Marcia.
Fernando appears
Fer: (immediately stands between Marcia and Lety to serve as shield too) Lets see, what is the problem?
Marcia: The usual one. (to the cuartel and Lety) They are leaving the event. I don’t want to see them here.
Fer: (Lety, and I guess the cuartel as well, were looking down and sad at this time) Marcia, Lety and the girls are going to stay and enjoy the event. (immediately after he says this Lety looks up and has a smirk smile and looks at her friends as in celebration) … and we don’t have to argue about this.
(Alicia arrives at that moment and tells Marcia that she needs to speak to her, Marcia objects, Alicia pulls her aside and tells her that she is no longer pregnant, and they need to talk … As they are doing this we see Lety whisper to Fer what was going on and his reaction of disapproval for what Marcia had been doing…)
Let: Ay Don Fernando, I fee so ashamed, I think we better go.
Fer: I think you should not go, I think you should stay and enjoy the event. You all are an important part of Conceptos and you should be here. So enjoy! (the cuartel expresses their appreciation… then he looks at Lety again leading her away) Lets you and I go over there to clarify something, ok?
Fer: Lety, you don’t have to feel like an intruder here. If anyone deserves to be here, it is Leticia Padilla Solis! (with accent).
Let: Ay, thank you, Doctor.
Fer: Yes! If it were not for your effort, for your dedication and your persistence, that work would not have been done! Furthermore, you are the soul of this party, Lety, so you understand me!
Let: Don Fernando, how nice (que barbaro!), thank you very much!! But I wish Dona Marcia would feel the same way …
Fer: And what do you care about? What Marcia says or what I say?
Let: What you say!
Fer: That’s it
(Caro comes to pull Fernando away to deal with some clients…)
Fer: (turns to Lety almost with urgency) Stay!
Let: Yes, Don Fernando!... (when he’s gone) … ay, he is so divine!!
(after Armando and Cata leave, Bertha approaches Betty and pokes her…)
Lola: Ay, just what we needed, that Don Fernando would end up reprimending Lety!
PM: No, I did not see that he was mad at all (Lety comes back and Marta charges and grabs her arm)
Marta: What did he tell you, sis?
Let: That we can stay!! (they all celebrate) That I am very important for this launch! And that I deserved to be here with you all!!
Juana is elated, says ‘that’s it, Lety! That is power! That is why you (or did she say he?) is my rooster (mi gallo)… (a gallo in spanish countries is a sign of power and ‘guts’ LOL!)
Sara: I knew that Don Fernando would not let you down… he is always so divine with you!
(the whole cuartel agrees)
Lety: Yes, Don Fernando is ... but the one that declared war on me was Dona Marcia!
Lola: Ay, and do you think she will get you fired?
Betty: Well, I don’t think she will be able to, but I will have a great enemy.
Sara: Ay Lety, don’t worry. You have always had that!

When Fernando brings them into the event, they all fall behind Fernando as dominoes when he stops... toward the end of that, right before he leaves them... he is trying to keep them quiet, they are very excited to get to see the show... he goes 'SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!'
Let: Mi Maestro Longaniza! Jijijijiji… (stating Fer is acting like the character Profesor Jirafales in the mexican sitcom 'El Chavo del Ocho', this must be an ad-lib on Angelica's part, you can tell Jaime is working hard at stopping himself from cracking up laughing)
Fer: Ay you are so funny, really!...

Once upstairs, Fernando sends Lety forward to get him something, he notices Alicia is not there yet.
Fer: Look! How cute! Your friend, whom I don’t know what nickname to use for anymore, has not arrived!
Marcia: Ay, please, don’t start, Fernando.
Fer: No, don’t worry, noone will mess with your untouchable chess piece! Don’t worry! Look!
Marcia: Don’t suffer for her anymore! Perhaps today she will leave Conceptos!
Fer: (frozen, then a sigh of happiness) whaaattt?? Don’t tell me… (changing his demeanor, thinking perhaps Marcia is just telling a joke) Don’t do this to me, Marcia! You can’t give me that wonderful news and then it turns out it is not true! It can cause me some brain damage. Then I might end up burned, embittered, … or as your sister, crazy because… (oopsie Fer!)
Marcia: Hey…
Fer: what a family you have, you are the only one ‘sane’, it can’t be…
Marcia: She got an offer to go work in Miami.
Fer: To Miami? How sweet! Couldn’t she go even farther away? Won’t they have an office in Africa? … hey, just between us… who was the embezzle who hired her? … don’t get offended, my love, on the contrary. I would like to send flowers to him and even write the best recommendation letter for her… even if tomorrow the guy will sue me for fraud… , but it doesn’t matter! I will do it! She deserves it! A profound gratefulness from my heart to that individual.
Marcia: … goodbye…
Fer: What did I say??... Miami!... wish she would go to Sri Lanka better!

Downstairs at reception, Alicia returns the ‘joke’ to PM and Saimon of having come in smelling to the small pink soaps (hotel soaps)… PM rebutes with the issue of trying to hold on to a lover with a false pregnancy gossip.

sorry, i copied right out of my BLF script adjusting to the wording they used in LFMB, and sliped up a couple of BLF names here and there... Armando=Fernando, Bertha = Marta

I second Paula's suggestion, don't miss monday's show! it is MUST SEE LFMB TV!!

I was LOL when I saw in Lety's dream that Omar was holding a sign that said 'SAY NO TO MARRIAGE'... too funny.

As to those who say they can't stand Armando or Omar's counterpart in BLF, even if I don't agree (it is like comparing apples to oranges, BLF is not meant to be a comedy, it is a novela with some humorous punchlines so it is meant to be darker and at times more cruel in the relationships/interactions), I can understand why some folks absolutely prefer Fernando and Omar.

Marta, thank you so much for the Spanish Lessons. That scene coming out of the elevator is such classic Camil. And thank you for the info about Maestro Longaniza. I couldn't figure out why Lety was talking about sausages. I've seen El Chavo as I'm channel surfing, but I've never watched it.

yes, the character's name is Prof Jirafales, he is head over heels with Kiki's mom on the show... but Kiko, Chavo and la chilindrina all refer to him as 'el Maestro Longaniza' because the guy is really tall, taller than Jaime, and the kids, esp Chavo and la Chilindrina, are very short.

one of the search listings on yahoo says the following on the title...
Ruben Aguirre:
Height 6' 5¼" (1.96 m)
Trivia: His most famous character was "Profesor Jirafales", also hilariously known as "Maestro Longaniza", due to his height.
