La Fea Más Bella #87-88 11/12/10 Did you?
Paula asked me to post this link to dialog translations for these episodes.
Capitulo 88.
Read Julie’s original recap which covers Cap’s 87 to 89. Then come back here to discuss it.

Lety went from hurt to angry (when she asked Marcia if they had slept well). But as soon as Fernando started to castigate Celso (I think as a way to cover his embarrassment), Lety started to laugh at his antics and was no longer in a bad humor. Then there was some jockeying for who should go first --the boss or the girlfriend. Fern then gave her a look that said "Don't discuss it here." After her guilt fantasy and Marcia's "win" and the cuartel being on Marcia's side in the fantasy, it was strange to me that she seemed so calm when Fernando wanted to speak to her. I didn't sense that she thought he was going to break up with her. After his explanation, she says something about understanding the conditions of his and Marcia's relationship.
Is her being so understanding a symptom of her guilt for sleeping with Marcia's fiance? Naivete? Or belief in his feelings for her? (Of course, she is thrilled when he explains that he has not been with Marcia, and believes him. She goes into her office and says, "He's mine.)Lety is interesting as a character. Although she is insecure about her looks, she is a person who has been very loved by her parents. She might not feel sexually desirable, but I think she feels that she is lovable. So she trusts her belief that Fern loves her. She knows he loves her by the way he looked at her, carresed her, kissed her, etc. Or as an inexperienced woman, is that part of her dreaming that his love is real?
I also noticed that Fern's wooden figure had its left arm outstretched pointing directly to Lety's office. Significant?
Sorry if this is too much after the fact, but i've always been interested in this scene.
I thought the scene where Lugi walked in on them was pretty funny.
I also liked the parralell discusions where both Lety and Fernando are describing the night as very sweet. You could tell he was very jealous of Thomas when he walked in on Lety and Paula.
His reactions when Lety would touch him or kiss him today were quite amusing. I think he is having a hard time trying to figure out what his feelings are. It doesn't seem like repulsion, more like confusion.
NJ Sue, I always thought that scene where Lety runs out to meet Fernando and he is with Marcia very interesting. To me it seems like Fernando is, again very confused about his feelings for Lety and just doesn't know what to do. We don't get any of his repulsed faces, just his confused ones. They are cute to watch as they both walk in together but not together.
Multiple people have told me that they didn't find the cuartel as annoying in BLF as they do in LFMB. I didn't see enough of BLF to really have an opinion, but in a lot of LFMP's cuartel scenes it seems like they're just reading their lines and going through the motions and not really feeling it. Especially in the scenes that Lety's not in, and any scenes where they're all standing in a row taking turns making comments that are pretty much interchangeable among the characters.
How interesting that both Lety and Fernando described their lovemaking in identical terms, sweet (dulce). I think this shows that they are on the same page and quite in tune with each other.
Cutest scene: after Fernando got the ad job he and Lety start to hug for joy, then pause (due to the change in their relationship), then hug, then act like a couple of payasos, and then she kisses him. It was awesome!
Yesterday was kind of a let down from the previous day but I'm a writer so I can tell you it is called scene and sequel. It is intended to build up to something important and then back down to reflect on what happened. In all the best novelas you will see it often and LFMB is very much in that pattern.
I loved the scene with Omar and Fern when Omar would get up to leave and Fern would mutter something about what happened and Omar would have to pump him for more information and the final time when he was at the door and Fern was taking about how sweet it was Omar looked very worried. I suspect he thinks Fern may have real feelings for Lety and if he does he might not continue to go along with the plan. Omar is not as dumb as he sometimes acts and I think he understands what is happening with Fern much better then Fern does himself and it worries him.
I would really enjoy this program much more if they got rid of the cuartel or at least inflicted them all with a severe case of laryngitis and also get rid of the head licking Olarte who totally creeped me out when he was hitting on Caro,
Decie girl - I agree with your comments completely - about Paula Marie, and about Omar. I also think Omar is not as stupid as he seems and understands Fernando only too well. Also,I always find it funny how Omar understands what women like and want (especially Lety), without ever having had direct experience --as Fernando
points out. It's almost as though he's a teacher in the fine art of wooing a novia, without ever having done so.For him, it's all a game and he knows all the moves even if he doesn't make them. But I still think he is motivated not only by the amusement he finds in the situation, but also by the necessity of keeping Concepetos afloat and by his friendship for Fernando.I also think Augustin Aranas is wonderful in this part; he is believable and funny, and resists overacting in his comedic scenes...which Jaime and Angelica are often guilty of.
I came into this show late the first time and had some problems with Omar without having seen how things came to be. We know very little about him other than the fact that he and Fern go back to childhood and that Omar doesn't believe in love, just in the chase. I think that give him a kind of tragic personae although he doesn't realize it anymore than Fern realizes he is developing real feeling for his right hand girl.
One of the real pluses for me in LFMB is that many of the characters are multidimensional and complex. There is no cardboard perfect virginal heroine and the brave hero. In fact there were times while watching this that I didn't care for Fern and actively despised Lety. Let's face it how many novelas have a protagonist who is knowing sleeping with another woman's fiance, cheating in business and lying all over the place and yet we find her endearing.
