La Verdad Oculta EP41 11/10/2010 - I can hear the bells

* Juan José and Caramelo pay Elsa a visit and they ask her to take care of the cutest little telenovela girl ever while the big guy and Asunción have a business meeting. These two still act like a telenovela couple after the divorce and now they practice the passive-aggressive child custody part with shameless manipulation and pure bitchiness.

* In a luxurious bridal salon the Guillén sisters examine the wedding dress of Gaby who looks gorgeous. And thanks to David's generosity and deep wallet at last the humble kids can pick for a pretty dress for Julieta, too.

* In Sagitario Sir Leonardo, the knight in a shining armor (who's not only a cop but a lawyer, too) starts to bother a very displeased Carlos to discuss why he fired Julieta. He has witnesses who can testify Carlos treated her badly and it's obvious he discriminates against her, so be careful, next time he'll return as a cop. Oh, and give him back Juli's bag. Right. Now.

* Susana tells Marcos she met Carlos and he may help him.

* Caramelo is excited about her first school day though she isn't enthusiastic about going to be early. After she and Asunción leave JJ tries again to make peace with Elsa but they still can't or doesn't want to understand what her problem is. He doesn't want to give up his revenge plans either and can't enjoy his new, free, rich life either because he can't sleep peacefully until he gets back at those people who robbed so many years from his life. And he's confused, freedom is new for him. Elsa gets tired with the conversation and she says okay, that's it, she'll give him the freedom he loves so much.

* At home Gaby and Julieta talk about the wedding and the members of the Genovés household. Dora and Abelardo are very nice to her, Alejandra is lovely, but Bertha... eh, she's is intolerable. Doorbell. Carlos came to congratulate her and to give her a little gift. Don't worry, he doesn't intend to harm her, he'd like her to forget everything that happened. Gaby feels very uncomfortable but politely accepts the gift. Thanks, I have to go now... Moustache grabs her hand and pulls his best Clark Gable face: he wants her to be happy... and he would do anything to make her happy. Okay, thank you, BYE. Inside she opens the box and quickly hides the pretty ring Carlos gave to her.

Julieta tells Fausto she quit her job which makes Daddy very content. Doorbell again, David came for his wife again. This time Fausto welcomes him in a much friendlier way and outside the building the young couple rejoice over that at last he has accepted David. They share a sweet kiss... just when poor Leonardo arrives at home. The poor knight visits Fausto to deliver a wedding present for Gabriela, and to give Julieta her bag back. Daddy invites him to the wedding which he politely accepts. Julieta is very happy, then he may be her companion at the party!

* In the Genovés villa David and Gaby invite Dora to the wedding. She's important for David and he wants her to be with them at the ceremony. Dora melts.

* Marcos continues organizing his future transportation business. And when will he sell the diamonds, asks Susana. Tomorrow. Sue is curious about where the secret tunnel leads and suggests him to explore it.

* On her first working day Elsa talks to Mina on phone. She feels so strange, she's an awful receptionist, she doesn't know how to solve her tasks. Mina calms the panicking girl: don't worry, she'll do it fine! But anyway, she called her because needs to know where Sr. Ocampo lives. Inside the architect studio Mina gives Ale the address who can't hide her enthusiasm.

* At dawn Roberto shows up in the Ávila condo and admits Adolfo he got cold feet. He can't kill Mario, it's impossible! But the trap is set, and Adolfo will help him in every possible way. This is the opportunity of his life and he'll give him mucho, mucho dinero... 5 million pesos. Yolanda arrives and whines about the wedding. She doesn't want to attend it, but can't persuade Adolfo.

* Elsa picks up Caramelo at school and they spend the afternoon together.

* JJ, Asunción and Abelardo are in the hotel that JJ, I mean, Asunción bought and talk with the hotel's manager. All of them are very content about the successful transaction. Especially the boys who act like they were two enthusiastic ten years old boys. Abe has to leave, today is the wedding of David Genovés. Oh, really? JJ and Asunción would love to be present at the ceremony!

* The doorbell of the luxurious hotel apartment rings. Caramelo opens the door and she meets Alejandra who came to visit JJ. But instead of a dim hunk she gets an unfriendly and clever Elsa 2.0 who doesn't forget to mention that she lives there with JJ and no, she's not his secretary but his friend. Really, friends? That's interesting because the last time they met in her architect studio they didn't even recognize each other. Anyway. Then please tell your "friend" that I need to talk with him. Adios.

* Julieta dresses up the excited bride. Fausto is enchanted by his daughter and he is very proud of her but unfortunately he can't attend the wedding because he doesn't feel well. He asks Leonardo, who's also amazed at Gabriela's beauty, to accompany her in the church. After the girls leave Fausto starts to cry like a child.

* Mario calls Faustiago and the two weeping fathers - the heartbroken fugitive and the dying multi-millionaire have a touching conversation. Mario is sad about that Faustiago can't accompany their kid and tells him after the party he'll leave forever. He hopes one day Fausto will find out who murdered Marta.

* In the hotel room Asunción and JJ who are dressed up awesomely elegantly tell Elsa they are going to a... business meeting. JJ says the girls goodbye but his attempt to give Elsa a goodbye kiss on the cheek fails. So to infuriate her he kisses Caramelo loudly again, again and again. Come on, man, try to act like an adult.

* And here comes the wedding. The participant have arrived, JJ and Asunción meet Mario and David, Dora notices JJ and freaks out again, Mario is enthusiastic, Blondie is nervous like a little boy... And the bride is so lovely and beautiful that JJ can't take his eyes off of her.

Thanks, the recap will be up around 12.

Confession time: I'm completely fed up with the new Elsa. Yes, it's good that she doesn't want to let people boss her around anymore. Yes, JJ acts like a jealous brother and he doesn't understand anything. But her tendency to act like a cheated spouse, a martyr, an ex-wife is getting on my nerves.
Either tell JJ clearly what you want from him or send him to hell for good and all and hook up with Medina but stop pulling that sour face. Sick.

Aribeth-

Can't wait for the recap, but I will be a busy day and I won't get to check in till late in the day.

At first I was so mad at Faustiago for missing his daughter's wedding, but then I realized that the reason he can't go is because Adolfo will be there! Then I just felt so sad for him and Gabi. He won't get to walk his eldest girl down the isle. And if Adolfo is at the reception, he won't be coming there either. Gabi will probably cry again. :(

But Leo to the rescue once more. And what a face Adolfo will pull when he sees Leo walking her down the isle. Lol! Can't wait.

I was also happy to see David go to the church in the car with Mario and Dora. His mom and dad! And he was so caring the way he helped them both into the car before he got in. Dora looked lovely, and was beaming with happiness. At least until she saw JJ and panicked. You know, I'm annoyed that he's there at the wedding. He has no place there and should have politely declined the generous invitation.

As for him and Elsa, I agree Aribeth that Elsa needs to stop with the sour face. She's messing us her new glamorous look with that cranky pants cara. But JJ needs to stop treating her like an ex spouse and babysitter. Did he not think that maybe she had plans that evening before he saddled her with Caramelo so that he and Limon could go out and play. He didn't even ask her if she would be free and willing to stay. He just assumed and left her there. Same thing when he just showed up at her place with Caramelo the day before- already making promises to the little girl that Elsa was coming with them. He purposely did those things knowing Elsa could not say no to Caramelo. Bad, bad JJ! He's the one that's not letting her be free. She already told him where to stick his friendship, that she's setting him free. So the only thing I fault her for is the sour attitude (especially to Ale at the door). But I say that everything else going babdly between her and JJ, is JJ's fault.

Got to fly. Looking forward to the recap and the comments later.

Woo, just got up; haven't even had coffee! How am I talking. Looking forward to your recap, Aribeth! :-)

Yeah...as distraught as Santiago was for missing the wedding, it had to be for nothing less than life or death.

They made a special point of David telling "Mario" why the Ávilas had to be at the wedding, so we'd understand Santiago's reasoning.

Elsa can't help her resentment, even though I think she should; and she was trying to leave Juan José out of it, but the big dope just doesn't get it. He keeps dragging her back for more punishment.

Just a quick comment concerning the 'new' Elsa.

"Hell has no fury like a woman scorned".

I can see where Elsa is coming from. She has had a crush on JJ for years. She tries to help him get out of jail, then JJ gives her a hot kiss but tells her he sees her only as a sister. Then she sees him flirting with Ale and she feels hurt, and now the final insult to her, JJ is interfering in her life and bossing her around about who she can associate with and he is also taking her for granted thinking that she will always be there for him under his command always.

Margaret

Can't wait to read the recap Aribeth!

Yep, I totally understand Elsa too. She's not JJ's sister and she's not the nanny either, though he is certainly using her as one! At this point I don't even think JJ sees her as a woman. And *that's* the whole problem.

Looking forward to the recap Aribeth. I can understand where Elsa is coming from. JJ has made it clear that he only loves her as a sister and then he disrespects her by trying to boss her around of who she can hang out with then just drops Caramelo on her without bothering to ask. I would be ticked off too.

However, I thought she was rude to Alex. I think Elsa and JJ need time apart because for now they just won't get along. The Dave Mason song, "We Just Disgree" comes to mind when I think of those two.

Poor Fausto. I teared up watching his anguish in not being able to walk his daughter down the aisle. Loved Leo stepping in though even though it's painful for him as well.

Dora did look beautiful didn't she. I'm still worried about Roberto offing Mario. I hope the plan gets foiled somehow.

That's We Just Disagree" for the Dave Mason song.

Ok, summary posted; thank you, Aribeth!!!

Pirate Babe, I also thought Elsa was rude to Alejandra. That was just unnecessary; like I said, she can't seem to help herself. Like Carlos.

Wow, Carlos's ring Gabriela hid away in her purse is going to be trouble. :-(

Tsk! Gabriela hiding things again! Foot-stomping bad.

Thanks so much Aribeth for the great recap.

Why doesn't Carlos just get the message and stop harassing Gabi. As soon as Gabi saw the shape of the gift she should have refused it. You could see that it was some sort of jewlery and not a sheet set. Then she hides it in her handbag. Dumb move. I can see trouble down the line with David and his jealousy.

Yep, Leo is a real knight in shining armour. He is a real hero. I am glad that Juli didn't have to go back to the bar to get her things.

I can't believe that JJ and Asuncion went to the wedding and lied to Elsa about it. He is really treating her like dirt and taking her for granted. Why coudn't Asuncion stay behind with Caramelo and Elsa could have gone to the wedding. That would have been a nice treat for her.

Margaret

Forgot to mention.

Loved the antics of JJ, Asuncion and the hair piece when they were running up the stairs. That was a funny scene. I wonder if it was ad lib or in the script.

Margaret

"Loved the antics of JJ, Asuncion and the hair piece when they were running up the stairs. That was a funny scene. I wonder if it was ad lib or in the script." That was hilarious Margaret. I too wondered if that was an unscripted moment.

Okay, Elsa.

The way JJ treats her is unacceptable. He's not her father, neither her brother, he has no right to tell this grown up woman whom to befriend, where to live or what to do. He can tell her his thoughts about Carlos, Medina and the others, but he must respect her decisions. He bosses her around, he doesn't want to see her feelings, he flirts with Alejandra openly. Yeah, he acts very wrongly. I can see why she is so ticked off with JJ.

However, her relationship with JJ is one thing. My problem with her lies much deeper: I don't like her type. Goody-two-shoes, nice, humble, kind, naive, loyal, hard-working, boring, simple Plain Jane who's cute but when she decides to stand up for herself she becomes an unbearable whining shrew. She has no idea how to do it.

It seems the sole reasons of her existense were JJ and her atonement for what happened to Marcos (he murdered their stepdad to protect her and she did everything help him). Then she realized that 1. she got into too much trouble for Marcos and JJ, 2. JJ is not prince charming, and she got fed up with everything. she sucks at being a strong woman. She has nothing but a very kind but broken heart, a mediocre brain and disappointment in JJ, so instead of being a fierce bitch I could love she's just a negative, sniveling bitch. Yeah, she kicked Salomón's ass. Of course, she was very brave with the help of JJ's money (which he didn't have to give her since 1. he didn't ask for her help, 2. the lawyer she hired did nothing for him while he was in the prison).

Can you imagine Alejandra, the glamorous lady or Gabriela, the poor waitress letting a man they love treat them that way? Never. Those women have fire, personality, strength while all Elsa is able to do is to obey, then quarrel, make scornful remarks, then obey again, pull the sour face and bitch around. Pirate Babe is right, they should say goodbye to each other for a while because they bring the worst out of each other. JJ is becoming a bigger ass every day and Elsa is... Pfff.

The wounds are fresh and right now she's depressed. She can recover later, the bitterness will fade away. I also give her credits for trying, she dates with Medina, has a new job, new hair, outfit, and meets new people. However, since she's one of the dozen side characters I highly doubt she'll get a well developed storyline. I bet she will pine for JJ for another 80 episodes and I can imagine her screwing up her chance with Medina.

Thanks for the recap and pics, Aribeth....much appreciated.

Things are getting messy and we know the anvils will be hoisting up for awhile:
...Gabi adds another secret to her Keep from David list. Add Carlos' inappropriate gift of the ring to her secret coffee klatch with J J. And she lied so seamlessly to her Dad about who came to the door (not Carlos but someone else.)
...The J J and Elsa relationship has turned toxic in that she is is jealous, resentful and bitter so she decides to manipulate J J and Ale's relationship given the opportunity. And J J continues to antagonize Elsa with his less than sensitive behavior and seeing her as little sister to boss around and as a convenient babysitter.

I think Susana was frightened away from Carlos when she realized he wasn't J J but I am not certain why. Can someone help me with my less than stellar Spanish comprehension? Thanks.

And Caramelo is the cutest and I love how she vaulted herself into J J's arms to kiss him goodbye or goodnight. Wish I could do that but I'm a tad heavier.

Thanks commenters for figuring out why Faustiago wouldn't be attending the wedding/reception. Whizzed by me.

GinCA

My word veriif. is "pannico" which is what Roberto, the would be assassin, is feeling right now.

Diana, yeah, that was weird with Susana.

She told Marcos that she ran off when she found out "Juan José" didn't know Marcos was out of jail.

It was like she still thought he was Juan José, though -- not that he would be someone posing as Juan José.

So not sure why that would spook her.

Loved your recap, Aribeth!!!

Boy, did you disect Elsa!!! You made a lot of good points but if having very little importance to the story as you state, I wonder why she is in it at all.

Most of the commenters share your feelings, but somehow I seem to feel that her slow transformation will grow and she will become important to the story.

Who knows what will develop???

Ann-NYC

No, she's an important character, she's on the level of Leonardo. If she was the protagonist she'd get over this downhill quickly and would blossom into a kickass, great heroine, but in this telenovela Ale, David, Gaby, JJ, Faustiago, Carlos, Roberto and Adolfo are much more important characters so I guess the emphasis will be on their storylines. But you're right, who knows? :)

Wow Aribeth,I guess it's safe to say Elsa is not your favorite person right now.She is just been a woman scorned. Her behavior is just beyond her control. She was so certain JJ was hers, his mother even approved of it.Mama JJ even went as far as moving in with her, what's a girl to think??? Ale has become the game changer. She can't yell at JJ all the time so been rude to Ale is the next best thing. As for JJ, his behavior is typical of an older brother. How many of your brothers ask permission before dumping chores on you. Not many and age doesn't matter either. The fact that she craves a different kind of a relationship is irrelevant. She is his sister and that's all that matters to him. That fact is firmly established in his mind.He was even ready to protect her from Marcos and he is blood.Gabi looked lovely. Poor Leo, the look on his face was just priceless. Escorting the bride was not what he had in mind.He much rather be the groom.Fausto is breaking my heart, missing your daughter's wedding because of a creep like Adolfo. Can someone please tell me what Carlos, the demon seed, hopes to gain by that truly tacky present? We'll let Gabi off the hook because it's her wedding day,but she better get a clue quickly or her marriage will be over before it begins.
Thanks a million Aribeth and Jeri for the recap and the tube links.

Hanna

Thanks, Jeri, I guess Marcos didn't relay to Susana that he ran into J J at Elsa's before and, therefore, J J should know he's out of the slammer. And Marcos didn't ask Susana to describe the man who identified himself as J J so I guess he doesn't question it was J J.

GinCA

Jeri, nevermind, I'm confusing myself.

GinCA

Well, it is confusing. I thought for sure in the last ep that Susana ran off because Marcos's gaff tipped her off he was an imposter. But then in this ep, it didn't seem like she thought that.

Lots of discussion about Elsa today! I also feel like she is important and has gotten way more story and back story than other supporting characters tend to in other novelas. We know about her tragic past, where she worked, he sibling, her interaction with her boss and neighbors, her love life, her interaction with Caramelo. She's connected to JJ, Marcos, JJ's mom, Ale and Mina, Salomon and Roberto, Carlos, Limon and Caramelo, and Medina, even Leo. The only people she's not directly connected to are the Guillens and David and Bertha. For such a huge enseble cast, that's a lot. She's not some tangent character like Susana (who will probably become more important now that she's hidden away some of the diamonds).

I thought whe Susana was speaking with Carlos pretending to be JJ, and he said he would help to get Carlos out of jail, that she immediately knew it wasn't JJ (since Marcos had mentioned seeing JJ at Elsa's) and that's why she took off. But then she told Marcos that she spoke to JJ and that made no sense. But these two are so dim, that they don't add 1 and 1 and get 2. Her instinct probably told her to get out of there, but her intellect couldn't piece together why. Marcos and Susana survive on instinct and luck.

By the way, wonderful pictures and great recap Aribeth!

In defense of Elsa,
I love the character of Elsa;
she seems very real to me in contrast to some of the other females. She is honest and hardworking, and she uses her wits
unlike Gaby who seems to make one
dumb move after another. What impressed me most about her was the way she persisted in locating
and visiting Medina in order to prevent JJ's return to prison.
When she is with Caramelo, she is
kind and nurturing. There was, however, no excuse to be rude to Ale especially since Ale contacted
Medina for her. But as others have
said, she is hurting right now;
her world took an uphill turn and
then a downhill slide. JJ is
socially immature and unsophisticated as a result of his
confinement at a young age. Asuncion seems to have an innate
aptitude for common sense although
no he's acting like a dandy.
Great recap! Thanks.
