Llena de Amor #65 Wed 11/10/10 Everything's Coming Up Roses....Not!

Okay. Seriously. Does Televisa sacrifice thousands of roses every time they do a love scene? Or do they just have a warehouse of fake rose petals somewhere? I hope it's the latter since every big romance has bedrooms (and tonight a restaurant) strewn with petals. The candle franchise is something else again.

But enough with the romance and roses. That's later. We start tonight's episode with one of those unfortunate scenes where someone gets the wrong idea, there's some useless babbling, and nobody listens to anybody. Emiliano interrupts the rehearsal with Netty and her nerdy lawyer. Thinks he's been duped. Doesn't listen to her attempts to explain. Tells her she's horrible and what's more, she ruined Gretel's life as well by supporting her romance with Oliver. Now Oliver's destroyed Gretel's life and Netty has ruined his. Stay away from me and our family forever! And exit Emiliano. Nice work.

Now another lovely scene. Lorenzo slinks back to his cell after learning of his baby son's alleged death, much to Orange Boy's amusement. However, Low looks so devastated, Orangey actually becomes concerned. From one cell to another, now we see Oliver. Trying to explain his actions to his boss. "I did it for love". Fine but you were "quebrando la ley" (breaking the law). We have to find Gretel so she can testify in your behalf that she wasn't kidnapped but went willingly. Oscar starts to dash off, intending to head out to Misery Manor and confront Fedra. But he's not going anywhere. Nopis. The Comisario slams the door shut and Oliver is locked in. Probably a good thing. That shoulder needs to heal.

Gretel, watched over anxiously by Nice Nurse, is still out and still strapped down on a stretcher. She comes to after Nice Nurse leaves though and quite lucidly realizes she's in an insane asylum. Get me out of here! she shrieks.

Our main shrieker, Netty, is beside herself. Lawyer Eugenio wants to fix it. He's her legal representative, and by golly he's going to make Emiliano learn the truth. Off they go to the big house.

Doris is already there, hanging out with Delicia and Paula and worrying about Mari's dondeabouts. Sassy little Delicia is hoping that she IS with Eman and that they're having a wonderful time!

And indeed they are. Our busy little Emanuel has reserved an entire restaurant just for him, Mari, some waiters and Luis Fonsi who's going to serenade them and wish them an eternal love. I'd be a bit more impressed if Fonsi hadn't just divorced his lovely wife of three years. Kind of ruins the sentiment of the song. But whatever. Serenade he does. Eman and Mari exchange some more soft-lipped kisses (Crankypants though I am, can't complain about the besos. Valentino Lanus is doing a great job.) and gooey schmarmy goshdarnit I'm in luv looks. Feeling slightly giddy and nauseated, we break for ads.

When we come back, we're at Misery Manor. Creepy theme music plays in the background. Creepy groveling by Emiliano in the foreground. It's all his fault but we can't leavel Gretel in that place. Oh yes we can, snaps Fedra. And mum's the word. Ditto for Kristel. Must keep up appearances, y'know. What are we going to say, that they're "on a trip" scoffs Emiliano. Not a bad idea. We'll say Switzerland. That's where all the "nenas popis" (posh young girls) go.

Brandon arrives. Ilitia close behind. Brandon wants to take Fedra and Bernardo down to the station to "assist the police in their inquiries" as the Brits say. Ilitia wants Emiliano to get her dad out of jail and lays her sweet head on his manly chest as she asks. Mientras tanto, Eman and Mari have arrived home. He's still keen on running away but she wants to face the music. We're strong and we love each other, she argues. So we can stand up to them.

Aaaaaaand...it hits the fan. Fedra, Axel and Ilitia are absolutely scandalized, horrified and sick sick sick that Eman spent the night with his fat cousin. Emanuel replies calmly that not only did they spend the night together, they're spending the rest of their lives together because......drum roll.....WE'RE MADLY IN LOVE.

Netty is having a hot flash. Fanning furiously. Fedra is fuming. It's all just too too much. We break for more ads.

We come back to a slew of insults. Ilitia calls Mari a fat fiancé stealer. Fedra dismisses her as a "conjunto de lipidos" (collection of fat). But that's not the worst of it. No, what worries Fedra is that Mari's going to end up with all their money if she marries Emanuel. And Axel is outraged that the fattie is destroying the family.

There's a break where Brandon pulls Ilitia out of the room, reminding her that she cheated on Emanuel with him, just as Emanuel cheated on her with Mari. So where does she get off causing a scene? He's sworn to secrecy. And goes along with it.

Back to the main fight. Eman wants to know why the family is destroyed. You'd know if you'd been around, rather that rolling in a bed with that slab of meat, sneers Fedra.

More drama. Ilitia is wailing that it's all "too much"remembering to say that in his posh little English. Her dad's in prison...her best friend's in the hospital.....

Fedra shuts her up. Agrees to go with Brandon to the station because she's going to see that Oliver is shut up in prison for the rest of his life. Slurping up a big swallow of booze through a straw, she prepares to leave.....

But not before Emanuel puts in the last dagger thrust. We're in love, he shouts, holding on to Marianela. Yes, LOVE! I want to marry her!

Okay. Time for that little Father-Son talk. Emiliano draws him aside and explains that since they're "primos hermanos" and the same blood flows in their veins, marriage is out of the question. Eman reminds him that it's the 21st century and there are tests for inherited diseases. They can reduce the risk of harm to their children. And if he has to give up the Ruiz y de Teresa name to marry his cousin...well, then he will!

In another room, we're having a little Aunt-Niece talk. Netty can't support this union. For one thing, Eman is the Son of the Serpent. And Fedra will kill you. Doris chimes in at this point and says Your love is condemned like that of Gretel and Oliver. You don't know what happened yet but....Ugh. While we ponder that painful memory, we trudge through another bunch of ads.

The talk continues. Listen, if you weren't first cousins, I'd be fine with your marrying Marinela, concludes Dad. Don't care, don't care. I'm staying with her, sez Son. Today is the worst day of my life, wheezes Emiliano. And Ilitia peers in the door. Wow, Emanuel is in for another verbal beating.

But we don't get to hear it yet. First we have the Netty misunderstanding to sort out. She's crying on her lawyer's shoulder when Emiliano arrives again, ready to throw her lying behindrear out the door. Not until the lawyer explains! Which he does. And Emiliano listens. And asks forgiveness. And doesn't get it. Nopis. You didn't believe in me, whimpers Netty. You said things that hurt me deeply. You didn't believe that Gretel and Oliver were deeply in love. So forget me forever! And she flounces out.

Doris is still trying to talk reason to Marianela. Oliver is in jail. Who knows where Gretel is. But if that's what Fedra did to them, imagine what she'll do to you!

And Ilitia is trying to talk reason to Eman....her Reason anyway. I mean how could he sleep with that fattie!? How could he throw her over for that gross piece of meat!?(lonjas y carne) Surely you couldn't have seen her nude and not have been completely disgusted! Emanuel wants to remain friends. No way. Hopefully you'll die, crushed by that tub of fat, she concludes.

Having communicated clearly in that room, Ilitia heads for an additional showdown with Mari. Doesn't go quite as well. She calls Mari a "zorra" (bitch) Delicia opines that maybe Eman was tired of an airhead model and that's why he fell in love with Mari. Delicia is then dissed as an "igualada" (uppity servant-class bitch). Warming to her discourse, Ilitia suggests that Manny just slept with Mari out of pity. So noble he had to do you a favor. AND THAT'S IT. RESOUNDING SLAP. Mari's going for Slap II but Doris breaks it up. And we break for ads.

Poor Low is resting his head against his cell walls, thinking back to the day he bought balloons for his baby boy and dreamed of the happy day he and Muñeca would adopt him. Or the happy day he'd have some henchmen murder his young mistress. Take your pick. Whadda guy.

Of course, wee babe has landed safely at the orphanage where Muñeca's noble maid and chauffeur have been helping out. When they see the medal of the Virgen de Guadalupe around the little guy's neck, they know the Holy Mother has saved him.

Back to the girls. Delicia's applauding the slap and mocking Ilitia's way of saying "Bye". Dead on. Mari's happily gushing about making love to Emanuel and regretting nothing. Doris isn't quite sure if it's love or lust. Mari's so upset she gets nauseous again. Is it the poison or pregnancy? Poison I guess. Speaking of....Axel arrives. Nope, he's not here to harangue her about the night out. He just wants to know why she's telling everyone he's gay. When in fact he's very manly. And ready to show any of you! And not only that, he's going to try and do everything he can to get rid of Mari. The fight is on.

Ditto for the General who's ordering Benigno to bring down the truant Marianela immediately. He's going to give her what for. But not until Paula sets him straight. Marianela and Emanuel love each other. And he's willing to defend his love. Unlike you, years ago, General! If you try and split them up, you'll be my Enemy. And I won't cook for my Enemy or cuddle him either. Okay. Serious threats here.

Serious promises elsewhere. The fatal kind you know. Always leads to Drama. Emanuel is vowing that Nothing Will Separate Us. I Love You. Anyone hear dun de dun dun's? Mari does. That's lovely but Fedra won't rest until she separates us, she replies. Hush darling, whispers Emanuel and covers her lips with his soft silky kisses. And on that tender note, we end.

Previews:
Emanuel vows to "luchar" for their love.
The General tells Emiliano he suspects that Emanuel is NOT his son.
Marianela is exultant at this news and tells Delicia.
Fedra's cookin' in the kitchen again, adding poison to food.

Vocabulary:

está desvariando = she's delirious (Nice Nurse talking about Gretel)
atribulada = anguished (nerdy lawyer worrying about Netty)
guardar aparencias = keep up appearances (Fedra's game plan)
las nenas popis = posh girls, upper class girls
tragar este cuento = swallow that story
primos hermanos = first cousins
revolcando = rolling in the hay, getting it on, getting busy (dismissive term for making love)
conjunto de lipidos = amalgam of fat (Fedra's insult)
tinaco de grasa = big tank of fat (Ilitia's insult)
tinaco = water tank
quebrando la ley = breaking the law

Dicho of the Day

Llegar al punto en que ya no tiene remedio To reach a point of no return
Have Emanuel and Marianela reached that point? Tune in Friday and find out. Tomorrow is the Latin Grammy Awards. Whoops..Maggie says Llena is on tonight. Well tune in and find out! So much the better.

Excellent recap Judy. I'm getting very tired of the fat jokes. We know Mari is chunky do we need to be reminded in every episode. Ugh. I was glad to see Mari and Eman hold their own against the onslaught of verbal insults we knew were coming. I saw that anvil hanging overhead when Eman said the dreaded words that nothing will tear them apart. From the looks on the previews for Friday's show, Fedra ups the ante by adding poison directly to Mari's food since the poisoned chocolates haven't done the trick. I'm also hoping Stepford Axel will bump his head again and lose the attitude toward Mari. I'm really not liking him right now. I hope Gretel can get out of the asylum soon too.

Thanks for the recap Judy. Though this episode may not have brought out your usually sunny disposition, you were hilarious (at least to me). Oliver shoulder does need to heal and your quip about Luis Fonsi was a giggle/gasp.

Seriously when is the real Axel coming back. He has to realize all the women in his new fake life (Fedra, Lorena, and Kristel) are horrible and help his poor imprisoned sister.

I like that Paula stood up to the General. Since he knows the pair aren't cousins, what gives? And yeah Netty for not letting Emil off that easy.

At least with Fedra's poison attempt on Mari at we know she won't die and I hope for our sakes Mari doesn't slip into a coma or get amnesia.

Thanks for the quick but very good recap!
I for one am annoyed with Eman's comments about being friends. It's one thing to have your recent ex be distraught, it's another to put up with the vicious name calling.I would have told her to knock it off. Every time she said something seriously disgusting that would be when I turned and walked away. Conversation over until she could keep a civil tongue in her head.
My belief is that Zorra is closer to slut than b*tch.M

Brilliant, brilliant recap. You are such a good writer. Very clever and HILARIOUS! I enjoyed it so much.

Oh the fat jokes are getting very old, but I guess they serve their purpose by reminding everyone (or acquainting new viewers) that these people deserve 0% on the sympathy meter. I agree that Eman should show Ilitia the door when she starts in with the vile fat comments. But it's a bit delicious to see how very upset she is right now and to savor how much she deserves it! LOL.

No cuddling for the General? Yeah, he'd better get himself together, those are fightin' words!

Loved Delicia's sarcastic "BYE" when Ilitia left. Delicia is awesome. That's all I have to say about her. Awesome!

Looking forward to Friday's episode!

Hah, great title Judy! And yes, what's up with all those roses?

In the past I have slammed Netty's lawyer but tonight I'm in his fan club. What a class act. He's got a major crush on Netty yet he volunteers to plead her case to his rival? Kudos to Eugenio.

Thank goodnes Delicia was back in the picture again. I don't like it when she's not in the episode. ITA Sweeney, awesome! Also not-liking, the supposed crazy chick in the manicomio. Free Gretel!!!

Whew! At least bebe Christian is OK. Of course we knew he would be but still.

Again with the fat insults. Sigh...

Judy, what a great recap! I'm very happy we're on the same recapping team again.

Good morning Everyone. Thanks for all the feedback.

@M...yes, absolutely "zorra" means slut. And the definition for "bitch" in Webster's is "a lewd or immoral woman. syn. Trollop. Slut" However, I get where you're coming from. Nowadays we use "bitch" to just mean an angry nasty woman. But the original meaning was "slut" Alas, we have many terms to diss women.... of any size.

"Zorra" also means the female fox as "bitch" means the female dog. I believe it's also used for ferrets and otters. Whew. An exhaustive discussion.

AND...your point is very well taken about Eman's mild reaction and "let's be friends" bit. Of course he should have taken her to task for her ugly epithets of his love. She's been doing this all along. Maybe he felt the loss of HIS love was punishment enough.

@Pirate Babe...Yesssss, we seem to get a barrage of Fat Insults in every episode. And since most of us are in this to learn Spanish, it's vocabulary of no use whatsoever. Ditto for all your thoughts...anvils and Axel...ugh. And it's time to resurrect Carlos' MEPS refrain....FREE GRETELLLLLL!!!!!

Hello Prof. Karen. Other than Delicia's wonderful "Byeeee", the scene with Paula and the General was my favorite. And maybe it was a red herring. He's insisting that Marianela be brought down...but who knows?...maybe all along he was going to tell her Emanuel is not her primo hermano. But he got sidetracked by Paula's well-deserved rousting. I loved every little minute of that scene.

PS and puhleeeze...no Coma. No Amnesia for Marianela. No no no.

Is it time to start playing telenovela bingo like they do on Eva.

So far we have Kidnapped Baby. Star-crossed Lovers. Kidnapped Baby Boy. Rose-strewn Bed. Rose-strewn Restaurant. Poison. False Identities. A death or two...or three. False imprisonment of innocent girl in insane asylum. Corrupt doctor. any more?

@Sweeney32...good point about the insults justifying our loathing of the bad guys. Somehow Ilitia will have to do a heap of redemption work in order for us to root for her romance with Brandon. In the meantime, we can watch her humiliation with a sort of dispassionate Karma approach.

Somehow I wasn't able to do that with the equally loathsome Kristel. Maybe because I suffered a miscarriage myself and it was emotionally devastating. I already had that baby grown up, put through college and happily married when I lost her.

@Sylvia...thanks for reminding me that nerdy lawyer is called Eugenio. He DOES deserved to be named because he acted nobly last night. Hoping both he and the equally nerdy doc who patched up Oliver will find true love at the end. They're both deserving guys. Emiliano is still iffy in my opinion. He's been duped again by Fedra. He turned on Netty without waiting for an explanation. But...oh wait...there's that voice....
That warm, purring, growling, goose-bumpy seductive voice...Yep. Okay. I'm on board with Emiliano. He kisses pretty well also.

Judy, don't forget the corrupt lawyer. There is always at least one of those, usually more. We don't have many office scenes in this TN but when we do there is usually an HR professional who sexually harasses the employees.

morning Judy. This was brilliant. Made my headache so much better just laughing and enjoying your delicious detail.

Speaking of Delicious, "Delicia's applauding the slap and mocking Ilitia's way of saying "Bye".BEST MOMENT of the Episode. I hope she gets more air time and some plots of her own as this TN proceeds. She's priceless.

I was reading everyone's take on Eman's reaction to Ilitia and frankly, all the comments. from the very beginning of this TN, Eman seems to have role in the family ( and bless him I recognize it since it was mine in our family) of the peace-maker. While everyone was losing their minds, or arguing, he was the one who tried to calm everyone and try to get everyone to play nice. He speaks up when needed, but there's a reluctance to get down and dirty with people just for the sake of argument. he'd rather just diffuse the snipes or arguments with the opposite, so I think it was natural for him to just try to diffuse Ilitia with the "friends" comment and not get into a shouting match.

of course we wouldn't have the TN we have, but if I was Mari before they walked into that house and Eman suggested they just take off, I would have asked for the keys and offered to drive myself. the minute they walked back into that house they were doomed.

Too bad, I so like watching Valentino laying on those kisses and sweet nothings.

Oh, Bingo! I'd add inept police, though this TN they aren't quite as bad, the bitchy bratty rich girl who wants the hero, forged or fake documents and a character or two that must be at death's door for a few episodes.

And I'll second that giving Emi a break. I love how they made him appear so frazzled and disheveled(lord that made him look so sexy to this old braud). Even when he's mad, that voice curls my toes. He'll come out on the good guy's side, but he's got some "growing up" to do.

Good morning Dr. Crankypants. Thanks for this excellent recap. I enjoy it when you're in the crankypants mode. Sorta gives an impatient edginess to your recap, making you a little less tolerant of bad behavior.

I must have been dozing last night because I totally missed the return of little Cristian. Now how long will it take for someone to start worrying about what could have happened to Begoña?

Isn't Delicia just the most precious and refreshing little thing. I love how she, uninvited, hopped up on the bed and joined in the girl talk with Mari and Doris (I keep wanting to call her Paula) and her mocking of Ilitia was... well... delicious.

Add corrupt judges to our list of TN cliches.

Ilitia is on her way to redemption...

"Her dad's in prison...her best friend's in the hospital....."

... showing concern for what's happening to someone other than her own spectacular self.

The one thing I'm really struggling with is what's happening to Gretel. This just makes me squirm in my chair...

FREE GRETEL! NOW!

Carlos

Okay...I'm going to have to start making a major list: corrupt lawyers, bungling police (I'm sure we'll see a little bungling here and there), bitchy rich girl wanting galan who actually wants humble sweet girl, someone at death's door (or in a coma or with amnesia), corrupt judges...ay yi yi. such a list.

Agree with all who think Delicia is delicious and needs more air-time. She has a wonderful spontaneity and is...just...well, we've already said it.

So...Daisynjay..You were the peacemaker in the family...So was I. Middle child between two high-strung volatile siblings, plus a high-strung volatile mama. Dad and I were the peacemakers...or tried to be.

Now...well, Dr. Crankypants signing off....

Most superb, Judy. I don't mind the crankiness at all; it's a rather fun read when you're snappish.

Aside from everything Delicia (any scene with her is magic, even if she's just in the background reacting), my favorite part of this episode was Brandon looking askance at Fedra as she sucked booze through a straw straight from the decanter. Fedra, you are such a cretin.

Why does Oliver get summarily chucked in jail over flimsy debatable charges, while Fedra and Bernardo are casually invited to amble along to the station at their leisure?

I don't mind how Emanuel reacted to Ilitia. It's in his nature to just let things go, plus I think he realizes that he's not going to change her. Also I think he's flying high enough right now that her tired old insults weren't even felt.

Ah yes, the generosity of those freshly in love. It is magnanimous. Emanuel would no doubt forgive any number of things. Marianela, on the other hand, can still deliver a crack whip slap. And was ready for a second.

As for Oliver in jail. Well, he's a plebe and a policeman. Fedra and her evil minion Bernardo are rich. I guess that's the difference...which is always being hammered home in these stories. The rich WILL get away with murder, so to speak, until the very last horrific chickens come home to roost.

The straw-sucking scene. Have to say, as much as I loathe Fedra, they do have the character doing some goofy funny things. Her mispronunciation of the alleged fashion designer's moniker, they "hyster-wha'" of the hospital scene, and her greedy reliance on booze during any crisis is quite funny. Not at the level of Delicia's youthful charm, but delightful in its own twisted way.

JudyB – I loved every morsel of your recap. Brilliantly written! Favorite bit: “dun de dun duns.” Good one! Oh, and Slap II. Har!

Also, super duper vocab list!

I was annoyed during Luis Fonsi’s scene where they were both saying how they loved to hear him sing, but rudely talked over a good chunk of his performance. Also, why did they cheap on the fog machine? It looked like it came from somebody offstage smoking a cigar.

I loved Fedra’s straw-sipping too, and admired the actress using a raspy voice just after, like she hadn’t quite swallowed.

My previews said coming Thursday, and my TV schedule shows Lllena being on before the big special.

You were saying yesterday that you dislike Netty, so I was thinking about her. I do get a kick out of her romantic and spunky character, but what really delights me is watching Laura Flores have a blast. I’ve only seen her in serious roles and am really enjoying her comedy turns.

Maggie, I thought the same thing about the serenade. If you're the only two people in the audience, don't talk through the performance! Rude! Getting up to dance is perfectly acceptable, however...they could have showed how lovey-dovey they are that way.

I think I would have enjoyed Luis Fonsi's appearance much more if he had done a different song...the trouble with the theme song is that we've heard it a gazillion times already, and seen him singing it in the credits, so it wasn't that special for the viewer. There was no special bonus extra something in that performance.

Thanks for reminding me about the talking, Maggie. That bugged me and it certainly should have bugged Fonsi. I remember thinking the smoke was weird too. But those thoughts move through my head and just keep on going. There must be a draft in there.

Nice call on seeing Laura Flores enjoy her part. The first thing I ever saw her in (and only watched a few times) was as a bedraggled abused wife in Piel de Otoño. Just starting to learn Spanish and really bugged by Autumn Skin. What the H... did that mean!? Seems like the next few things she did were also bedraggled, neglected and unloved long-suffering heroines. Poor Baby. I'll try and cut her shrieking some slack.

As for the song, I agree with Julia. It's too familiar. And it's no Besame en la Boca. That one (from Fea Más Bella) can still melt me. And ditto for Rosario from Betty la Fea. Two incredible, heart-pinching songs.

PS Added the correction about tonight's viewing. My Time-Warner guide always seems to be blissfully unaware of any changes.

Judy... you and I must be cosmic sisters. In my case it was being sandwiched betwwen the type A, volatile, brilliant older sister and the late in life younger brother who got a bit spoiled by the adoring mother. Mothers - you and I were blessed with the same (and mine unfortunately had a bi-polar issue to boot). So Dad and I just did a lot of placating and refereeing and shoulder-shrugging.

Interesting, Daisynjay. Yes, my sister was very bright and volatile. And the younger sib was a brother, also volatile and funny as H.... But he wasn't spoiled. He and my Mom clashed like two Mac Trucks all thoughout his childhood. And he could even drive my father into a thunderous fury. But he was the one who stayed in town and helped them out during the tough growing old and dying years. And I would drive over each weekend to help out as well. My sister was too far away and too estranged from my Mom to visit much.

Have no idea if my Mom was bipolar or not. She loved us but she could go from affection to fury in a split second. In my day, they called it being "high-strung". Less pharmacology in those days. I still walk very carefully around Anger these days. That early experience stays with you.

LOL - Oh, that term brings back the memories "high-strung". Yes, there was no bi-polar back in those days and only when she was MUCH older did that diagnosis come about.
My sis has always lived away, but did stay connected and having the first of the grandchildren endeared her back in to mom's good graces. I had a spell raising my brother during an illness my mom had and he laughs to this day that "I saved him". I mainly took care of my folks in their elder years (they are both hobe now), but being my mother was all about "the son" he was good and stepped up when needed to get her to do things and listen to doctors.

I always say the middle child makes the best managers.

should have said "gone" now...do not type as a cat is settling in on your keyboard.

What is it about cats and keyboards? Ours is always on ours as well.

Yep. Middle children become managers or work in care ministries etc. There's definitely a place for those life skills.

Strange that in the Ruiz y de Teresa family though, Emanuel functions like the middle child. In real life he'd be a lot bossier.

No Llena on here by the way. It's the lead-in to the Grammy awards.

I thought the talking was rude too! I mean really, they were the only two in the room and they talked during the performance? Silly.

I don't see Llena listed at all in my area. The "Noche de Estrellas" or the red carpet starts at 7:00 pm and the Grammys start at 8:00, so no telenovelas until La Verdad Oculta at midnight.

Hey JudyB, Great recap, although I don't watch this I enjoy your story telling!!!
