I read through Julie's recap and this episode sounds hilarious. I can't wait to see it later today. We don't have any translations from Paula's page, however Pata came through again with an amazing series of screen shots to donate to the page. Thanks Pata!!

Thank you Pata and Sylvia - these two-hour episodes are filling up my machine an I have no time to watch - I may have to delete some before I have a chance to catch up. So it's very nice to at least have the pictures!

Sylvia, to answer your question yesterday, I didn't update the vocabulary in old recaps recently, but I did update a couple of things a couple of years ago when I was looking at recaps and watching the DVDs.

Basically, everything changed once I had captions and knew where to look up words. The fancy paper dictionary I had bought wasn't much help for the more exotic vocabulary, but I've gotten a TON of mileage out of the forums at wordreference.com. YOu look up a word, and if the definition there isn't sufficient (or if there's no definition at all), you scroll down a bit and there are links to forum discussions that can explain some of the folksier expressions.

One word that mystified me was "garnacha." I never understood why Alicia called Lety that so often. It would make sense if Lety were wearing purple, but there were plenty of times that she didn't wear purple!

Garnacha is actually a specific type of grape, aka grenache. I like the wine. But I still think it's an odd nickname for someone who isn't purple.

I posted comments on 79/80, and 81/82. Who knows when I'll get back to comment on 83/84?

There is a fabulous corresponding scene in BLF. After the party, when Fernando tries to escape, and Lety gets all sad that they can't go out. Maybe Marta can find the YouTube link. In LFMB there is the swollen tongue humor. But in BLF, it's a sensational moving scene. Every single word, every look, is packed with significance. Betty asserts her rights, which convicts Armando to treat her with the respect she deserves, and then when he says they'll go, she smiles so big she sprains both ears, and Armando is touched by how happy she is.

I just realized that Lety is wearing purple today. Maybe Alicia only calls her "garnacha" on purple days? I never noticed...

Julia I think what Alicia is calling Lety is ganache (not sure of the spelling) but on an episode of Law & Order there was an episode where the word was used by a woman who said it was a slang word from Argentina used to designate a low class peasant. It was used in a derogatory way which is exactly how Alicia uses it.

Anyway what a pair of episodes today but way too much curatel overload. I felt like my ears were bleeding by the end of that ghastly party. Do these women not know how to speak with out shrieking. Considering how touchy Erasmo is about Lety's behaviour in the neighbourhood you'd think he would have told them to pipe down a bit.

Poor Lety. All set for her romantic evening while she is now tipsy and Fern has a burned mouth.

Just finished watching these. Deciegirl, I agree about the caurtal. They are a bunch of magpies when they are all together!
I have always FF>> them when I watched the discs. I am having a really hard time trying not to cut them out now as I am taping these.

I loved Fernando and Lety's dad. So funny. And Fernandos response when Thomas showed up to seranade Lety.

I usually FF throughh the cuartel's scenes, mostly because they say the same things over and over again. And of course THEIR VOLUME!!!

Paula, I'm glad you are able to pop in and comment. I very much liked your analysis of how Fernando can neither control or fake-out Ed.

OK, I'm off to watch today's episodes...

The Merengue they were playing was Juan Luis Guerra! I love him and I'll bet he wins a Latin Grammy tomorrow.

Ay ay ay, Julie's title was spot-on, this party lasted forever.

If I'd seen the episode I might have titled the recap Spy vs Spy in honor of Alicia and Marcia. Alicia was a hoot. What a wonderful comedic actress she was in this episode.

Sylvia, great comparison to Spy v. Spy. This dragged on for me also with too much cuartel, but I loved Don Erasmo and Fernando. Jaime did a great job mumbling with the burnt lips and tongue. Hilarious. So glad you captured it with the screen shot. Also, it says something about how perhaps his social group does not eat typical "Mexican" food, so he's not used to the heat.

It's really been taking me a lot of time to keep up with these two-hour episodes. I've been fast forwarding through cuartel scenes, but tonight's episode didn't allow that because the stories intersected.

I loved the way Julieta gave Lety a knowing look as Lety departed for her date at the end.

Nina, I agree with you about the Lety and Julitta scene. It was so sweet. I love those two together. They are so real. You can tell they are really mother and Daughter!!

I was LOL'ing with the Erasmo dancing between Celso and Saimon while Lety and her mother were enjoying it... too funny, since Jose Jose is a ballad singer and he does not dance much as far as I can tell...
The fer burnt tongue scene was great. I was LOL'ing that one too.
I will look for the youtube link and post it for you guys.

and I totally agree with Paula that although the burnt tongue scenes were funny (I loved when Lety imitated Fernando's burnt tongue talking back to him... LOL), in BLF this was much more moving and heavy with emotion. I vividly remember when Betty gave Armando a touch kiss and he was left frozen but with a lovely facial expression while she went to her room to freshen up before they left.

I found a link to the corresponding scene from BLF. This is the link. Time hack 7:20. I can't verify it since I'm at the library. It's BLF episode 78.

Notice when Fern's tongue was burnt, Lety could understand him and no one else could? Like a toddle who only his mother understands? They are that close.

Correction on that BLF link. Here it is.

Here are a couple links to BLF same scenes...
After party at Betty’s house, Julia finally hauls Hermes away…
