Eva Luna #23 Mon 12/6/10 Daniel Confesses His Love to Eva: Vicky Takes on Another Rival

[Apologies! My DVD didn't record properly so this is from memory. If I've left anything out let me know and I will add it in.]
Eva is taken to the hospital by Daniel. He pretends to be her husband in order to spend time watching over her since he feels guilty about causing her fall. He finds out she has a serious hit to the head and will be there overnight. She wakes up hearing the nurse refer to him as her husband. He tells her it’s no use telling them that or they’ll only think she’s got amnesia. She tells him she wants him to leave her alone. He tricks her into thinking he’s left and when she wonders where he’s gone he peeks back in and teases that he’ll be back in a bit.

The lunch from hell procedes as Jackie brings in the snails she’s spiced with a full jar of hot sauce. Francisco and Marisol’s mouths are on fire afterward. Then comes the lobster which I think had to be raw or else broiled to a crisp because neither of the two fake milionarios could stand to take a second bite.

Dano returns to the hospital room with gifts and pretends to be a delivery boy. He’s charming as all get out and Eva tries to hide her delight. He leaves her a basket of fresh fruit and an elegant matching nightgown and robe since she’s got to spend the night there. Marisol’s antennae go up as she hears Jacky tell Victoria on the phone that no, “Sr. Villanueva” isn’t there. Franc makes up some lie about who Sr. Villanueva is.

Daniel returns to the hospital room afterwards and Eva’s eaten some of the strawberries. He teases her again telling her that the delivery boy was head over heels about her and realized that he’d fallen in love with her. Eva grouses at him about getting married so why keep up the ruse. He says it’s true. She says if he’s still getting married so she can’t believe him. He asks what if he’d realized he was never in love with the other woman? They still are from two different worlds as far as she’s concerned and that’s that, no matter how much she’d like to believe him. Either way, she says, she doesn’t want to hear it because she doesn’t want to suffer because of him.
Franc calls a taxi for Marisol. Laurita and Jackie ask her why she doesn't drive a car of her own. Marisol's stumped and says because she has a thing for taxis. Marisol accidently breaks an expensive vase by the door on her way out to the taxi. Franc demands a lunch invitation to her mansion for the next day. Marisol tries to make some excuse but agrees in the end though she obviously doesn't know how she's going to manage to pull that one out of the hat. Dan makes a call home and checks in right after.

Ictoria tells Claudia that she still thinks she’s got a rival. Claw advises her she’d better have some proof before going off on Dan.

Dan spends the night watching over Eva. He tells her while she’s sleeping that he really wishes she would/could believe he really is in love with her.

Tony collects payments for Leonardo and delivers them to the casino office. Leo warns Tony about getting unnecessarily jealous over Alicia with him or he’ll be out of a job.

Carlos thinks he’s pulled off a major coup and that Alicia will love him for it.

The next morning Dan wakes up from the couch he slept on in the hospital room. Eva’s gone. The nurse is cleaning the room and tells him that “his wife” already left and told them not to wake him. He goes home to clean up. Ictoria burst in on him yelling about him being gone all night and immediately accuses him of being with another woman. Dan yells back that yes he was, but no he didn’t sleep with her. There was an accident and he hit her with his car (I think?). He doesn’t go into much detail because Icky is still screaming nasty insults at him. He says and yeah, she was the most beautiful woman he’s ever met! He goes in to shower and shave.

Icky goes into the kitchen and picks a fight with Laurita over eating cereal. Laurita gives as good as she gets. Icky tells her that after she’s married there will only be fruit for breakfast. Laurita says no way because she’s not going to end up a stick like Victoria and cereal is just fine. Laurita tells her she doesn’t like her and the feeling’s mutual. Back off! She gets off her stool and storms out to go to school. Vicky tells herself that she could care less because the only one she cares about is Dan anyway.

Alicia wakes up and sees that Eva didn’t come home last night. Eva walks in with her stuff from the hospital and explains the bandage on her head. She tells Alicia that Dan took her to the hospital and stayed with her. She wonders why Ali isn’t at school yet. Ali makes like she’s got to hurry. A bit later Eva remembers Dano telling her he’s not in love with the other woman and smiles to herself.

As Dan shaves he thinks about the time he spent with her in the hospital room also.

Ictoria goes to Dan’s office and snipes at Dan and Leo’s secretaries about gossiping over the fight at her engagement party. They weren’t though and try to tell her that. She interrupts them and tells them to get back to work. Leo’s secretary leaves. Icky gives the 3rd degree to Dan’s secretary over any other women he’s been involved with. Icky warns her not to lie to her or she’ll make sure she gets fired. The secretary tells her she’d still keep Dan’s confidence even if it cost her her job. She then tells Icky that there was only a new model named Sabrina who was there to see him about a shampoo commercial. When the secretary leaves, Vicky snoops and finds the envelope with Sabrina’s picture in it. She reads the note on the back that talks about it being especially for him. It doesn’t have anybody’s name on it though. This is the proof Icky wanted.

Icky is in the bathroom and hides in a stall. She hears Sabrina come in discussing with a friend the wonderful night she spent with her new guy who already has a girlfriend. Sabrina doesn’t care, she tells her friend, because if the girlfriend really was anything special he wouldn’t be spending time with Sab. Vicki assumes Sab was talking about Dan and begins to strategize her vendetta against Sabrina.

Vicky tells Claw what she found out. She admits the photo didn’t have Dan’s name on the inscription, but that doesn’t seem to matter to her. She’s going after Sab.

Back in apple-picking country, the young foreman tells Eva’s aunt that somebody named Deborah sent a private investigator asking questions about Eva, Ali and their daddy. He told them they’d moved to the big city but he didn’t know anything more and hadn’t heard from them since. Eva’s aunt is glad he was discreet. Afterwards she’s worried about why Deb would want back into the girls’ lives.

At Arismendi Inc., Marcy gets a phone call from Deb in Paris. We find out she has some jewelry design business. Anyway, she called because she found out about the wedding between Dan and Icky. Marcy asks if she's attending. Of course, Deb says. She wouldn’t miss the wedding for anything!

Great recap. I can't believe you did all that from memory. You must be super sharp.

My favorite bits were Dan playing messenger and Laurita's conversations.

It was so funny when Daniel called the house.
Dan: How are you? What's going on?
Laurita: Fine! Really, fine! We did not break anything here!
Dan: Ummmmm...

She's such a terrible liar. I also loved her fight with Icky over breakfast. That Laurita is not taking any crap from anyone. Good for her. I wish Dan would overhear the way Vicky treats his daughter, but I guess we have to wait awhile for that to stretch things out.

Jardinera, I wish I had your memory. Great recap. You caught it all.

I really like that little Laurita. I thought the phone call with Daniel was funny too. "We didn't break anything." I thought for a minute there when Fran said he wanted to ask Marisol something he was going to ask for a lone for the vase. What a funny and unexpected little scene.

So now we have Eva and Alicia's mother coming back to town. I really like the actress who is playing Deborah.

The whole Daniel just happening to be there when Eva fell was so unlikely but I really did enjoy the time it gave them in the hospital. She was funny to watch when she hid the strawberries.

Thanks again Jardinera for the recap.

Great recap Jardinera,
Little Laurita vs Icky Viciky, ha!! Laurita just showed how child like Viciky really is. ( fighting over cereal for breakfast). Love the scene where Eva is eating some of the strawberry's from the fruit basket Dano bought in, and he comes in and says something about the fruit, she puts the strawberry's beside her in the bed trying to hide them. ( I was like oh no your going to ruin that beautiful night set he just bought)
Those hospital scenes are all the BEST; I love the playfulness of Daniel character with Eva.(hopefully she can see he really loves her) LOL when the nurse says you husband, and Eva says he's not my Husband. (I thought do be quiet Eva and be his wife for just now)
Who is the lady playing Deborah character?
I thought Fran and Marisol were eating snails and lobster? Good for Franciso asking Marisol to now return the favor of having him over to her home.(She shouldn't have asked to go to his home? IMO it was to soon). Was it me or did anyone else get from the phone call that Marcela and Deborah don't trust each other they where very FAKE like on the phone?

OH I forgot something else, what the heck are Tony and Leo's business?

Hum, Bruno likes older women, this was said to Marcela from her loving son Leo. wondering maybe I have a idea who sent Bruno now?

Why hasn't Eva or anyone else figure out, why Alicia doesn't go to school in the morning? what the heck is she doing all day long?

By the way I've never seen a emergency room look like the one Daniel had for Eva. He must have a lot of pull, at the Hospital b/c he sure doesn't at the advertising agency. Michele in PA

Thanks, guys! Yeah, it was snails, not muscles. I changed that. Also I'll change the steak to lobster. I didn't remember them mentioning langosta, so thanks again. I couldn't tell from the plates. (I'm sort of shocked I remembered it all, too! As for that vase, Franco and the others are gonna have some 'splainin' to do I bet!

Michelle,
The actress playing Deborah played Rosaura in Hasta Que Dinero. I think her name is Frances Ondiela (I looked it up, but could be wrong about the name).

Jardenera, I noticed this wasn't tagged. Do you want me to tag it for you?

Pata: oops! I did forget! It's posted now, thanks anyway, amiga!

Hmmm. Yes, it does seem now that Deb might have hired Bruno and that she and Marcy are fake friends. She seems to know Dan's family as well. So, question is how did she get control of a jewelry line and is she really in Paris or did she just tell the receptionist who answered that she was calling from Paris? Also, what kind of person is she to have abandoned her daughters and only now want back into their lives?

As always, you got every important detail Jardinera. Some really funny moments last night.

Daniel was beyond cute in his LA cap, doing the delivery schtick. And seeing the Incredible Edibles box just made me want to go down the street and get a bouquet for myself. I love their fruit pieces! Lucky Eva.

I have to say, Laurita is fast becoming my hero in this TN. Man, she is a fesity one. But she needs to start giving Daddy-O some details on what Icky says. (I had so wanted Dan to walk in on that kitchen conversation- but at least Jacqui heard it.)

Speaking of Icky - she's starting to get that deranged look in her eye that not-so-nice characters get as they do their evil deeds. We know fake momma is the uptimate villian, but I think Icky is going to start going down that path of craziness that gets worse and worse as move on.

My goodness, Jardinera, you are some kind of prodigy to do all this from memory! Bien hecho!

Like anon 8:43, I found myself distracted by the idea of strawberry stains on that beautiful nightie! Maybe the drama wasn't all that compelling, huh? But still, sweet.

I was delighted by the little farce played out by Marisol, Francisco, Laurita and Jackie. It was as if these 4 normally rather nice people were trying to be jerks but every now and then, their essential niceness betrayed them and they actually interacted like human beings. (This is kind of the opposite of the way many of the snooty characters are acting: jerky people pretending to be nice but every now and then their jerkiness peeks out and betrays them.)

Anyway, you were definitely hanging out at a better party than I was last night:-)

Thanks so much, Jardinera, for this very impressive recap. Like so many others, I'm in awe of your fantastic memory. I wish you could bottle and sell it--I'd buy the entire stock!

Julia, as soon as I read your comment, I decided I'd just say "Ditto."

Things are getting more and more interesting. Can't wait for tonight's episode.

Pata
Thanks for the infor. on the actress playing Deb. Jardinera654 as to your ? about what kind of person Deb is, I thinking IMO that she might be a lot worse the Mad Marcela (** A chill just went down my back thinking that someone could be worse than Marcela**). We'll just have to wait and see. Another ? why hasn't anyone seen that Vicky needs to seek medical attention for her behavior I mean her BFF claw said she was obsessed, Daniel said she obsessed, even her own father says she's obsessed with Daniel.( HELLO BIG RED FLAG HERE PEOPLE)help this poor crazy girl. Michele in PA

Thanks Amiga! thats about the only Spanish word i know! I don't speak or understand Spanish, but i love novelas, i die for them. I always watch Eva Luna, then wait for you to recap them in english for me. Thanks.

Thank you for a wonderful recap!

I thought this was a fun episode. I especially enjoyed the bit where both Francisco and Marisol are too insecure to call foul on the foul food, and so choke it down and pretend that it's sooo good! I hadn't anticipated that it would go that way, but it made sense.

Things are moving along quickly! Now we see the evil missing mother of Eva and Alicia! This is going to get interesting.

Charming stuff with Daniel and Eva in the hospital. Very cute.

I would feel more sorry for Sabrina (who as I suspected, is being mistakenly targeted by Ictoria as "the other woman") but after hearing her talk in the restroom and her obvious casual disregard of the girlfriend of whoever the guy is that she's seeing . . . well, I don't feel too sorry. Well, maybe I'll change my mind when we discover what Ictoria has in mind for her. But Sabrina does not seem like a nice person.

Now, I need to go back and re-watch this scene, but when Danny Boy was having his argument with Ictoria at the end of the ep and he says that the woman he was "the most beautiful he'd ever seen" (or however he said it) does he think that Ictoria is taking him seriously? We know that Ictoria is in crazy paranoid mode, but does Daniel know that she thinks he's stepping out on her? (Which of course he sort of is, but . . .)

And the other big question and my main gripe—when is Daniel going to grow a pair and just BREAK. UP. WITH. HER. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, dude, just get it over with.

Great scene with Laurita talking back to Ictoria about eating fruit for breakfast. Actually, I don't think a just-fruit breakfast is all that healthy. Would anyone (especially a young growing girl) need something more substantial, with maybe a little protein (like the milk in the cereal)? Well, yay to Laurita for sticking up for herself.

If only Danny will see how Ictoria really treats little Laurita, maybe that would be the impetus he needs to throw Ictoria out on her extra padded behind, you know!

Again thank you for the recap and I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.

Anonymous at 12:18:00 PM: Do you have a newer TV with the Closed Caption 3 option (or do you have HDTV service)? Eva Luna has English closed captions on CC3 and while they're not super great, they give you a pretty good idea of what's going on!

lol every time you guys say whiskey tango foxtrot, I laugh because I recall Guy saying at some point that he used to be an instructor at Arthur Murray among his jobs before getting into novela acting.

Also, that Deborah came out of nowhere! so Marcela and Deborah are not one person... but still there is room for who's Eva's real mom between them. I also sensed a lack of trust between them, especially from Marcela toward Deborah... maybe Marcela has some secret on Deborah or maybe Deborah thinks things happened one way but Marcela did something different... who knows...

So Matilde (the aunt) knows Deborah must be looking for her daughters and we heard Deborah talk to herself in the room in Paris about maybe now she will finally get together with her daughters... so could it be that, at least in Deborah's mind, Eva and Alicia are her daughters?

Guy Ecker used to be a dance instructor? Awesome. Actually you can sort of see it; he tends to move pretty gracefully and walks up on the balls of his feet a lot. I think this is part of what makes him look younger than he is.

Thank goodness for all the recappers. Mil gracias for you're brilliant writing and interpretations--including all the snarky stuff.

I haven't watched the episode yet. I had to tape a couple of episodes and it seems my clock didn't match Univision's and some of the action was left out, Grrr.

V-Icky is certainly a complex character, but IMHO, not to the point of needing professional help for obsessive behavior.

To her credit, she has been "patiently" waiting for Dan to pop the question for 5 years. She obviously saw something about him that has been worthwhile waiting for--regardless of her mother's machinations--and besides being quite a hunk and successful to boot, he's been supportive to her modeling career.

Marcella probably had Dan's wife done away with to leave the way open for Vicky (thinking ahead that it would be a match good for business) and pushed her towards him and kept persuading her to stick with him.

For poor Vicky, it may not be so much obsession as desperation. Here is a woman who is not yet married and living in a fast-paced society while her cultural background still requires a woman to be married and settled by a certain age. In her conversations with Claudia, yes, she's obsessed, but I think she's obsessed with the marriage game--no rivals permitted.

Since she's been focused on Dan, she hasn't let her gaze stray elsewhere--until Bruno, who has now peeked her interest.

Hmm. I thought the story and interconnected characters were complicated enough already and now we have a new major character about to enter the scene.

I can't wait to watch the hospital scene. Despite spending so much time discussing Vicky, I'd rather watch Dan and Eva interact. See you all manana.
Una Norteamericana

Don't these TN kind of go by a form, bad woman, bad guy, good woman, and good guy etc..... So we haven't had a baby being switched yet. I'll hold out that maybe the aunt switched the babies somehow, b/c Don Julio told Renata that Eva reminded him of Justa (with her careing ways),( this is just IMO). I can't stand to think that Eva came from either Marcela or Deb those two women are pure evil. Michele in PA

julia, back in '99 some of our [La Mentira USA] telenovela-world forum friends actually got to dance with him when he did the Cristina show after La Mentira finished... I think that is when I heard him say it. But yes, you can tell by the way he moves around.

Fun comments, everyone! This tn is getting better all the time. I loved the interaction between Eva and Dano last night. He grabs the screen and you can see why GE makes the big bucks! Ms. Soto is still in need of acting lessons by comparison.

Okay, okay! My guess is that Leo is stepping out on Claw with Sabrina.

Thank you for the wonderful recap of a very cute episode.

I'm excited to see "Rosaura" from Dinero. She was a snooty, gossipy, U.S. name dropper in Dinero, but still a good person. Looks like she gets to be evil here. She was once Miss Spain many many years ago, I believe. So a former Miss Spain is playing the mother of a former Miss Mexico (Soto). Seems appropriate. :)

Now I know why niether she nor Harry G. (Francisco) weren't at the novela awards with the rest of the Dinero cast. They were both busy filming this in Miami.

I loved Laurita giving as good as she got from Vicky. I can only imagine that a labotomy would allow Dan to send Laurita away, as Vicky plans.

Jardinera, thanks for another great recap, what a memory for detail you have.

This TN has a lot of really beautiful people.

I didn't care for the advances for tonight where MadMarce thought bubbles that she can blame Eva for the death of Julio - what a bruja.

I love little Laurita. She needs to have a long talk with her Dad.

Rosemary

Jardinera we are on the same page with the man Sabrina was to meet, I thought the same thing Leo, it seems like something he would do.

Michele in pa

I see lots of wishes for Daniel to "grow a pair" in the comments. But I'm afraid that this novela might be 100 episodes before he finally does. And we get to experience a long suffering Eva during the long wait while she is victim of 100 cheap tricks and humiliations. Maybe I'm too pessimistic, but I don't really see what else this novela is about.

Unless after 60 episodes Eva all of a sudden inherits millions, and then enjoys 60 episodes of giving it all back to the meanies, and poor Daniel gets to suffer again, but in a different way.

I really enjoy reading the recaps and comments, regardless.

Audrey

Eva Luna is a great novela. blanca soto is a great actress.
