Eva Luna #45 Fri 1/7/11

Eva goes to the bank to cash in a check for Victoria.

Claudia goes to visit Marcella who plays fake nice and apologizes for asking her to get rid of the baby. Claudia falls for it and takes it that means Marcella is all for the baby coming. Of course I am, replies Marcella. And I will try to get my son to accept the baby also and apologize to you. Claudia the idiot hugs Marcella overjoyed. Marcella congratulates her on her cleverness in getting what she wants. I respect that adds Marcella. Let's have a toast. Marcella pours her a coffee and toasts for Claudia future and the grandchild's. Marcella watches her drink the coffee. Something tells me there is a little extra in that cup.

Justa goes to cemetery to find out from the lady their that there is no record of the baby that she had being buried. Justa wonders if the baby did not die then.

Leonardo overhears Maria (Daniel's secretary) that someone is getting married. Who is getting married he asks. Maria says some friends of hers. Leonardo is not buying it. Daniel comes in.

Justa tries to get more answers and believes her child is alive.

Leonardo apologizes to Daniel for his previous conduct. Daniel waves it off and says if doesn't matter anymore. Leonardo wonders if he's available for a meeting later today at 4, but Daniel says the part came in for his vehicle and he will not be able to make it.

Victoria tells Renata to send Eva up to her room immediately when she arrives. When Renata makes noises about Eva, Victoria tells her to shut it up.

Claudia and Marcella finish there little chit chat.

Justa firmly believes something is up. Her friend (don't know her name) wonders why someone would have lied to her about the baby.

Renata is worried about her encounter with Justa.

Marcella calls in her secretary to make a donation to the children's hospital in her name. Now with my conscience cleared, I can get to work says Marcella. Only thing left is you, Eva.

Eva brings the money to Victoria. She tells Eva not to tell anyone that she is leaving.

Justa tells her friend that she is going to confront her sister, Renata, and get some answers.

Leonardo tells Eva that she needs to come with him right away. He has something important to tell her. When she protests he says it's about your dad's death.

Carlos recalls his conversation with Alicia. Just then a jailer informs him he has a visitor.

Leonardo takes Eva to a location and tells her that she has to wait for it to appear.

Daniel is driving the car that struck Eva's dad that Leonardo was driving that fateful day.

Marcella asks Victoria where she put the money. In your dresser drawer replies Victoria. Perfect says Marcella. So what happens now asks Victoria. Send Eva to jail replies Marcella.

Claudia is at home when she feels gut wrenching pain.

Tony is the surprise visitor for Carlos. Tony threatens Carlos that it's best for him to stay in jail or otherwise he will make him regret being born. Carlos is like "I'm so scared." Yeah laugh, but you better take me seriously says Tony. Because of you, Alicia wants nothing to do with me. Well I'm glad replies Carlos. Shut up shouts Tony as he grabs Carlos by the front of the shirt. I will not forgive you for this.

Eva is getting inpatient and Leonardo just a couple more minutes. The time is arriving for you to find out the truth.

Claudia is looking for something in her bedroom when the gut wrenching pain returns. She looks for the phone.

Tony tells Carlos that if Alicia came to see him again not to receive her. If he finds out that he saw her again, he will pay. He has friends in jail that will do what he asks. And that includes killing him. Carlos agrees. When Tony thinks he's won and turns his back to Carlos, Carlos grabs Tony and puts a knife to his neck. Carlos tells Tony that the only one going to die in prison is him.

Marcella is on the phone asking to speak with the president of the bank.

Leonardo tells Eva to look over her shoulder at the car. Eva notices that it's the car that killed her father and sees Daniel getting out of it.

Marcella tells the president that there is $25,000.00 missing from her account. That someone robbed her and it needs to be reported to the police.

Eva can't believe it's Daniel. Leonardo says sorry, but it's true. He is the one that killed your father. Eva doesn't want to believe it. Leonardo says it's true.

Carlos tells Tony to yell for his friends. Tony acts like a sissy and begs him not to kill him. He'll get more jail time. Carlos thinks that getting rid of trash like him from this world would be worth it. Tony coughs and gasps for breath. He swears to Carlos that he will never bother him again. Carlos taunts him some more then sissy Tony yells for the jailers.

The president of the bank will start an investigation into the missing money. He sees a check was cashed only a few hours ago and he will look at the surveillance tape to see who did it. Victoria applauds Marcella when she gets off the phone for her acting.

Leonardo swears to Eva that he would have done anything to avoid seeing her hurt, but she had to see for herself. Eva tries to leave the car to talk to Daniel, but Leonardo stops her. He thinks it's not a good idea for Daniel to know that she knows.

Sissy Tony tells the jailer that Carlos was threatening him. The other jailer finds the knife on Carlos and takes him away.

Leonardo tells Eva that I know this must hurt a lot because you guys care for each other so much. But Daniel killed your dad. And no one can change that. What are you going to do? Eva gets out of the car and runs off. Leonardo goes after her.

Claudia is let out of her apartment building on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

Fernando asks Daniel how did it go? Daniel says the guy never showed up and he doesn't have his number to call. He asks if Eva has called. No replies Fernando. How strange says Daniel. She hasn't answered any of my calls either. But anyway I need you to go to a boutique and pick up a package and take it to her for me. Sure thing replies Fernando.

Doctor checks out Claudia.

Eva is crying on the beach. Leonardo finally finds her. He tells her he feels really bad for her. Eva says it could have been anyone else. Why him? Leonardo hugs her and tells her to cry it out.

Daniel is in his room, happy and packing. Laurita comes in and wonders what's up. Daniel tells her that he's marrying Eva.

Eva is still crying on the beach. Leonardo tells Eva that Daniel was drinking that day and when Daniel came to his house he acted all nervous. When I asked him what was up, he told me he ran over a guy. He confessed that he left him lying on the street. He left so that he wouldn't get in trouble with the law. I know this must be hard, but I know I had to tell you before you saw the car at Daniel's.

Claudia awakens in the hospital and asks about her baby. The nurse goes to get the doctor. She prays to God that the baby is okay.

Marisol tells the household minus Justa that she is getting married. Eva comes home and runs to her room.

Daniel and Laurita are hugging. Laurita wants to go and hold the rings. Daniel tells her that it's a secret and she can't tell anyone just yet. But when it's time, she can organize the party. Laurita tries to convince her dad to take her, but he says not this time.

Marcella and Victoria talk about Eva and their plan.

Claudia finds out from the doctor that she lost the baby.

Alicia tries to get into the bedroom to find out what's wrong with Eva. Alicia asks Tony to break down the door or something. He picks the lock and they rush in and are shocked at what they see.

Marcella tells Victoria the best thing is for Eva to leave this house and their lives. Leonardo interrupts and tells them that he has completed his promise. Daniel and Eva will not be together anymore. Just don't ask questions. They all toast.

Eva is on the floor in a fetal position. Alicia wonders what is going on. They lift her into the bed.

Victoria is happy that Eva will end up in jail. And that Daniel will be hers again.

Alicia brings Eva soup, but she doesn't respond. She asks questions, but still no response.

Renata asks Leonardo why did he give Eva the day off. She had a family matter. Renata is not happy.

Eva is still in shock and Alicia is trying to get answers.

Claudia is upset about losing the baby.

Marcella is happy about getting rid of Claudia, the baby and Eva. Renata comes in and informs her that Mr. Lombardi is here to see you. The day gets better and better replies Marcella.

Ricardo and Marisol are really worried about Eva.

He tells Marcella he feels neglected. He starts kissing on her and Don Julio sees it all.

Monday: Daniel gets ready for the wedding. Will Eva show up?

Thanks so much Gloria for the recap. I didn't watch Friday (getting one son back to college), but after reading, I'm rather glad I didn't.
I'm sorry, but I just knew that Eva would go into stupid mode and immediately jump to the conclusion that Daniel killed her father.Watching all that teary-eyed anguish would have been detrimental to my TV.

First this is LA - that is the only red car of it's kind in a city of how many millions - for that matter the state of California? Second, she was ready to marry this man and knows his character - yeah he seems like a killer or someone who would leave the scene of an accident to me -NOT! And of course, she won't confront him...These kind of plot twists drives me crazy!!!

Claudia - another one going brain dead, maybe literally. One minute Marcella is threatening you and the next all nice - what's wrong with this picture woman?

Looks like it'll be beanie and aggravation time for awhile...need to keep away heavy objects so I don't throw anything but the pillows at the TV.

Great recap, I could not watch the episode, but I have to agree with daisynjay, all of a sudden a man Eva loves and at every turn has helped her and told her the truth, and she's going to walk away because of Leo. Just does not make sense for this novela. This novela was trying to be one step ahead of the rest, and now they are going to make everyone stupid? Incredible.

Gracias, Gloria!

The secondary story with Lollipop Boy is very frustrating. I suppose it ties in with the Evil Family given that Lollipop Boy seems to have some business with Leo, but this character adds no value to this TN.

Claudia walked right into Cruella Marcella's trap. Red flags everywhere, but her brain was in snooze mode.

How in the world Eva could believe a scumbucket like Leo is beyond me, but we are now in for at least several weeks of non-communication from the protagonists...or...perhaps...maybe not. This does seem to be a quicker moving TN than most, but Eva's dismay over Dano will soon end when she ends up in jail over something she did not do.

I'd like to get Cruella Marcella in a corner and rip off that glove!

Susanita

Bien hecho, Gloria.

Totally agree on this whole thing of Eva losing IQ points. How on earth could a guy who is a good father have left the scene of such an accident? Not to mention the number of red cars of that make and model that must be in L.A., which has almost 10 million people.

Leo is so sleazy I feel like taking a bath after every one of his scenes.

BTW, with regard to Bimbutt, I thought you would all find this little video amusing (apologies if you've already seen it):

Gloria: Thanks for getting what little action down and hitting all the high points so well. I always appreciate that talent! I hope Eva is using her zone-out to think things through and surprise us.

DaisynJay/Nellie: If you want to see the video for Friday without CC, you can stream it in total from Uni's site. Here's the link:

Susanita: "Cruella Marcela" LOL! Good one!

Poor Dano. His choice is between a vengeful, homicidal maniac or a stupid , naive sob sister who is willing to constantly believe the worst of him, based on slimebag Leo's lies.

Gloria,
Thanks for the great recap, I too was not going to watch this chapter of Eva Luna, b/c Eva through whatever brain cells she had out the window of Leo's car. But I ended up watching anyway. ITA about WTH was she thinking I understand gut recations, but sooner rather than later she's going to have to start thinking with her brains, that what Leo was telling her is not in character with who Daniel is. If I was Daniel I wouldn't be marrying her. She supposed to trust him, it seems to me that Daniel does all the trusting in this relationship. He's the one the try's to straighten out the messes and misunderstanding, and I guess he will try to fix this too. I bet her butt wont show up to the church. Do the writers of these TN think women behave this way, I'd like to give them " what for". Women are not stupid, but neither do they fall to pieces when things go wrong, come on give Eva a Little brain cells matter, for heavens sake. As for Carlos and Tony, good for Carlos for scarying the spit out of Tony; now Carols believes Alicia about her not going to NYC with Tony. Marcella, Vicky and Leo plans are going to crash and burn, b/c they implamented them at the same time. and as we know the real world doesn't work that soomth. Claw's going to figure out that Mean Marcella put something in the coffee which cause her to lose the baby, and all HELL'S going to break loose she's (Claw) going to start talking, it's the only thing she has left to hold over them. IMO that's how Daniels going to get EVA back. Julio's going to do something b/c he saw Bruno and Marcella getting cozey. But that's getting ahead of ourselves. Michele in PA

Gloria, great recap, thanks.

UA, that is one funny video, thanks for the link.

Everyone is brain dead, I hope they all recover before long. The only one I would like to see in a vegetative state is Tony and possibly Leo, those young men are on the road to damnation.

Leo is not going to be happy when he finds out Eva on is her way to jail.

Rosemary

Jar: Gracias! but it doesn't come close to all of your alliterative wonders!!! Your Spanish is pretty darn good, too!

Susanita

P.S. Can anyone imagine a TN where the heroine actually has a brain and USES it? It really does make one wonder why these writers think this way of women.

Rosemary, glad you enjoyed that. It was the winner for Best Comedy at HBO Latino's Short Film Competition. I screened it in my last office and everyone got a good laugh. I hope Hugo Perez gets to do more good stuff. He might have it in him to do a sitcom like Disenador Ambos Sexos.

Whew, Gloria. I thought you were lost. Will read asap. Thank you, it's been difficult not to be able to discuss this terrible episode. Maybe a little time was what we needed!
Una Nte-Am

Thanks so much, Gloria. Your recap hit all the major developments in this frustrating plot. I agree with everyone about Eva and Claw suddenly going brain dead. Well, in Eva's case, we've had other evidence of this problem, but Claw has been pretty savvy until now. Sigh. However, since Claw is still alive, she may well prove to be a key element in unraveling the schemes against Eva. After this, Claw will certainly have no reason to support Icky, Marcela, and Leo.

Though Friday's episode was frustrating, one thing I like about this TN is that schemes and misunderstandings get resolved much more quickly than in most TNs I've seen. So I'm hopeful that we're not in for months of angst. Then again, if we're not, how much longer can this TN plot continue?

Juanita: I'm glad Claw didn't die too. I have a feeling she'll cross over from the Dark Side and somehow help Dan see the light about Marcy and her wolfcubs.

Wolves are far more honorable. I'd call them hyenas.

Gloria,
Thanks for the recap. I have a sinking feeling that our cluless Claudia won't even figure out it was Marcella that cuased her miscarriage.

Loved the ending where Julio spies Marcella and Bruno. Iget the giggles every time I see those two together because they are such a bizarre disgusting pair. It's like a ham and blue cheese sandwitch.

And the Carlos and Tony jail scene was about the only time I enjoyed watching a Tony scene. Way to go Carlos!!

Gloria, finished reading. You left out nothing we needed to know!

Although I agree that Eva has gone brain dead, I don't agree that Claw has. The doctor told her that being in the first trimester of a first pregnancy it is quite common to miscarriage. She had all the outward symptoms of a miscarriage. There may not be any reason to suspect poison.

Now, if Claw, as distraught as she is, uses her head, she's the only one that knows she lost the baby. She could pull an Ivana, for the next few weeks anyway, and see what Marcela's reaction is to 1)seeing Claudia alive and well and 2)boasting that her baby is fine. Hmmm.

Eva is another case entirely. Leo was very astute not to let Eva out of the car--she was definitely not brain dead at that moment. In her dispair she was willing to go talk to Dan.

It was Leo's constant drumming into her that Dan's the one who killed her father with all the details, warned her that she couldn't say anything to him. That's when she began to turn all that torment inward. Once vengeance takes over, any rational conversation she might have had with Daniel is going to be impossible.

The Tony/Carlos thing was so implausible. First of all, maybe it's only in Mexico, but do we let casual visitors into jail cells? I thought only lawyers could have private visits and then in a room with guards outside.

Loved the look on DonJ's face when he saw Marcela getting nuzzled by Bruno. He needs Marcela's private detective now.

Kalum--I never thought about Dan having such a poor choice in spouses. Good one. He doesn't have a very good BFF either. Francisco and Jacky seem to be the only ones 100%loyal. Oh, and Aurelia, bless her heart.

Maybe Justa will step up to the plate and reason with Eva--she's turning into a good little detective and likes Dano.
Una Nte-Am

Gloria-

Thanks so much for the recap. I did not watch because I knew it would be a wretched episode, and I was not wrong. When have so many evil plots been unleashed at exactly the same time, and all worked? I like my evil in small doses.

Susanita- Re a heroine with brains-- Fernanda in MEPS was whip smart, that's why we loved her so much.

Thanks for the recap Gloria. Like others I could bear to watch Eva get duped by awful Leo. Hopefully she will see the light but it might be from a jail cell.

Argh, it just makes me want to scream! Why do telenovela main characters always have to believe lying, shady schemers they know are bad news, rather than the people who have always been good and loving to them?

The recap, however, I appreciate.

Oh my...there sure were a lot of us collectively ducking on this episode on Friday.

Anon, I really like your point about making the women "heroines" in most TN have these totally unbelievable moments of going stupid and naive. One of the aspects of STUD that drove me off the edge. I would have loved to have seen Eva instead get all into Daniel's face.Even if she would walk away from the marriage, bot wanting any more drama for a portion of the show, that would make more sense than curling into a fetal position.

Betcha, and man I so don't want to see this, she's going to go even further off the charts and start cuddling up to Leo, like he's the only one who has told the truth.

Ya know, there might not be that much mystery as to why these TN's are written with these flaws. (Passive heroines, predictable and familiar plots). It is the same in American TV-there are tried and true formulas that they keep using because they make money.
We probably can't blame the actors for the roles they are given, and maybe not even the writers, who are likely told they have to stay within some pre-established genre guidelines.
I am really enjoying the recapper's versions more than the show itself, THANKS TO YOU ALL, and thank you to the bloggers for keeping it lively!

Who's into romance novels? They have a lot in common with telenovelas.

Until I realized that I was completely unqualified to write them, I wanted to write these books. They go through fads, however, and some of the writers capitulate to them rather than remain unpublished for more than a year. A Harlequin author told me in 1998 that she was told "We want cowboys and/or babies" and she wrote a cowboy-hero story because she felt that babies are the biggest killers of romance.

In the romance fiction world there are only a few hero types who never go out of style: Swashbucklers, soldiers, cowboys, Indian chiefs (or their sons), knights, and guys in expensive suits and expensive cars (if contemporary). Each of these has a list of stereotypical behaviors. At least contemporary heroines don't have to be virgins anymore.

Thank you, Gloria, for a very comforting recap. I had to turn off the volume when Leo was telling his story to Eva and just read the captions, because not only can I not stand to look at him, but I HATE his voice, the way he finises his sentences so breathy. I mean, Rosendo was mean, but I loved listening to him talk and watching him. But Leo never changes his intonation or the way he talks. He is so annoying!

Once I hollered at the TV when Valentina was acting stupid, and on Friday I hollered at Eva that she shouldn´t believe Leo: I was so disgusted! I don´t understand how she can stand to get near him, let alone allow him to hold her hand. I can´t wait till all those slimey characters get caught with their hands in the cookie jar...BY DON JULIO! And I hope the writers don´t forget to snag Vicky for what she did to Sabrina.
I´d love to see Claudia visit Marcella, pretending she is still pregnant. And maybe Marcella will walk in on Vicky and Bruno. The episode made me sick to my stomach. Nonetheless, I am still anxious to see tonight´s episode, and I am SSOS!!!!!

Vivi: You are absolutely right about Fernanda in MEPS! How could I forget?! It just seems that heroines who use their brains are few and far between. Thank you for the reminder! I was always pulling for her in MEPS. The Fernanda character never once me me feel like I wanted to put my hand in the telly and slap the heroine silly (i.e., Valentina in STuD)
