La Verdad Oculta EP86 01/18/2011 – A depressed redhead, a funny carpenter, horny lovers and another cunning plan

* Carlos visits apparently very sick and tired Yolanda to talk about his ring and his daddy. In the meantime Mauricio and Juan José are dining in Hell with Sevilla and Zaida, and they are discussing their future seaside project. Sevilla is way too interested in JJ’s plans regarding the project and JJ confesses he’d love to manufacture furniture and an to own furniture shop. He loves carpentry which he mastered while he was imprisoned. The air freezes for a moment. Mauricio: headdesk. Zaida and Sevilla: oh, this guy has a wonderful sense of humor! Juan José: ???

* After her usual “I don’t know anything” speech Yolanda deigns to spill some beans to Carlos. She talks about her love for Mario, her friendship with Marta, the way she framed and warned Santiago and Mario’s love for Marta, but forgets to mention the dancer was Carlos’s mother and she was murdered by Adolfo. Her death was an accident. Carlos doesn’t believe Yolanda, surely Adolfo killed her! He won’t tell anyone what he learned from Yolanda and won’t go to the police either, but he keeps his mouth shut only for her sake and not for Adolfo. Does she have any idea how many years she’ll have to spend in jail if the police unveils the smuggling business? Yolanda cries and says she never smuggled anything, her job was to keep in touch with the jewelers. Ay, Yolanda, Yolanda! And what kind of relationship did Adolfo and Roberto have? She doesn’t know but suspect Roberto was working for him for a while. The hug each other and repeat how much they love each other.

*In the Genovés villa David and brooding Fausto talk about Mario and Gabriela. David confesses he feels like his father never died. However, he’s worried about Gabriela, who’s afraid they try to hide something horrible from her, something that’s worse than what happened to her mother. Does Fausto has any idea what kind of horror stories must be running through her mind? Fausto starts to cry. David tells him Gabriela has every right to learn the truth and he shouldn’t be worried: he’ll always be Gaby’s father… Like Mario will always be David’s father. All right, all right. Tomorrow he’ll tell her everything. Why tomorrow? Please, give him time to prepare.

* While having breakfast, Lionheart and his little Emma Woodhouse are planning to go to the cinema with Julieta. Back in the casa Genovés Alejandra seeks Fausto’s advice. What the hell should she do with Bertha and Juan José? She tells Fausto Roberto’s story and the kiss of death JJ and Zaida shared. What if Gaby was wrong, asks Fausto. Let him talk with JJ. No, no, no, she’s done with JJ, she came to talk about Bertha. How could she become Adolfo’s helpmate? Fausto somehow understands her motives and encourages Alejandra to talk with her. She’s the only person who could convince her to leave Adolfo. Alejandra smiles and leans on his shoulder. Everyone loves Daddy Fausto, and Fausto, who also loves his biological, adopted and countless foster children, tries to convince Alejandra to talk with Juan José.

* Dora, la Exploradora y Desesperada goes back to her friend in Michoacan. Leonardo visits Juan José and while curious Chicles is eavesdropping at the staircase he tells JJ Dora fled again. JJ explodes. However, Leonardo isn’t sure that Dora would’ve testified anyway… Their only hope is finding the letter. JJ thinks Garnica kept it in his briefcase. Yes, Chicles, you heard it well.

* At a hip beauty salon Zaida visits her favourite hairdresser… Ulises! I have a baaad feeling about this. While he’s designing a new hairstyle to his diva, his queen, his old friend, they talk about her plans and affairs. By the way, she’d love to rent one of Ulises’s flats. *Viewerville: no way!*

* David is very worried about the business but he found out how to solve the problem: next week he’s going to arrange a meeting where Gabriela will take over the leadership of the Campo Real hotel chain! *Gaby’s expression says: who are you and what did you do to my husband?* What? Has he gone mad? She’s just started to learn about the hotel business! Next week? She needs at least a year! Thanks for trusting her but please, don’t do anything stupid.

* FaustiCupido calls JJ to fix an appointment with him. Across the way cheerful David asks Abelardo about the masks and high-tech stuff Fausto uses. He’d like to talk with the man who made them. Why does he need them? For a madness… the same mad idea that has come into his father’s mind. No, no, no, no, no, David, don’t do that to Abelardo, he’s already worried sick because of Mario’s scam, no more crazy ideas, please. David says Mario did everything in order to save their assets, and he’s going to do the same. When poor Abelardo learns about Gabriela and the business meeting he always gets a heart attack but nothing can change David’s plans.

* JJ brings the kids back to Elsa’s flat. Caramelo invited Chicles to spend the night there, and Elsa doesn’t mind it, he may sleep on the couch. The children are over the moon and for a change the adults manage to act like two parents who don’t hate each other. After JJ leaves a daydreaming expression flashes through Elsa’s face.

*Alejandra and her big depressed aura go back to work and tell Mina about the kiss. A few minutes later Bertha show up at the studio to tell Ale she found a new luxurious home! Oh, great, says Ale sarcastically. And how is she going to pay the rent? Anyway, she doesn’t care, and she doesn’t want to see her stupid sister anymore. Why did she tell Adolfo Mario had a tumor?! One day she’ll end up in jail, for God’s sake! However, it’s not Alejandra’s problem, Bertha’s an adult, she may do whatever she wants. Good bye! At Elsa’s the kids are watching an exciting movie in the TV when Elsa sends them to bed. Oh no, please! Come on, kids, you have to sleep! Caramelo obeys but Chicles secretly stays awake and keeps watching the TV.

* Whiney Bertha complains about Alejandra to Carlos: she promised to help her but now she hates her and she kicked her out of her office! And why did she do that, asks Carlos. Well, because she told Adolfo Mario had brain tumor. Carlos is shocked, how could Bertha do that? Yes, yes, yes, she knows she’s an idiot. Fortunately Carlos likes that idiot much. At Leonardo’s his sister calls the Faidellas to talk about Paulita. It’s high time to go back to school and Leo agrees. Paula has to leave tomorrow. She doesn’t like the idea and Julieta also feels sorry for her, but Leo promises to his girlfriend they’ll live together later.

* In the Ávila condo Édgar and Adolfo have a conversation about what happened at Mario’s. Dolphie says it wasn’t Édgar’s fault and now he wants him to keep an eye on Zaida and a man called Dante Sevilla. Persuade Zaida to introduce him to Sevilla and work for him as an assistant. He gives him a thick envelope filled with cash which transforms Édgar into an enthusiastic employee. Yes, boss, he’ll do anything he wants!

* In the meantime Adolfo’s favourite blond protégée and his not so favourite son are doing the nasty. In the Genovés villa Gaby and David also get in the mood to make babies. No, Gaby, you shouldn’t worry, David doesn’t feel sick at all.

* Next morning at Elsa’s the girls are talking about their future while Chicles is sleeping. Doesn’t Caramelo love Elsa anymore? Of course, she does, but she can’t wait for the day when she, Elsa and Asunción will live together in a bigger house. No, unfortunately that’s impossible, says Elsa, and anyway, Limón prefers living with Juan José. If the social worker asked Caramelo with whom she wanted to live what would she answer? Poor kid doesn’t like the question, she wants to live with both of them. However, Elsa, who needs to know the answer, kindly asks her again, to which the girl shyly responds she’d choose her uncle.

* Carlos visits Yolanda again and learns from the maid that she’s in a very bad shape, she hardly eats and doesn’t leave her bedroom. She look exhausted which makes Carlos very worried. What happened to her, is she sick? No… she just lost her will to live. Muñeco hugs her. In the Genovés villa Abelardo and FaustiMario are laughing at David who’s chasing his wife. He’s obviously in better shape and he’ll tell the world who gave him so much strength. After blushing Gaby leaves Blondie tells Fausto he has a cunning plan that may solve their problem with the hotels. They’ll do what his father did and they’ll use high technology.

Thank you, Jeri!

For Floridia:
I love the music especially the theme song; I would like to revisit the kiss between JJ & Elsa. If you know the number of the episode, please advise.

It's in episode 23. This music has been used many times.

Another favourite of mine:

And from this episode:

Jeri, thanks for the links.

Really looking forward to reading this Aribeth. I love David and Gabi. How their relationship has matured and grown! The scene where he playfully chased her down the hall was so nice. I chuckled along with Fausto and Abelardo, loving every second of it.

Diana

Morning all! Aribeth, I can't wait for recap. This episode seems to be setting us up for a lot of events to happen. The announcer gave us a list of people, of whom he tells us one might die! And sorry, for those hoping, Elsa was not in the list. Yolanda looked like the most likely candidate, and given how depressed and tired she is of this life she has, I put her at the top of the list. Last night was the night for Carlos to comfort the women in Adolfo's life- Bertha and Yolanda. Anyone else notice that Carlos and Bertha's love making looked more like that, and less like two chickens pecking at each other (as one of you described it) or two animals in heat. Carlos still deserves better, but he is falling for her, and vice versa.

Diana- I too loved Gabi and David flirting and playing in the house. He kept making these not so subtle comments about "physical therapy" too, and Gabi was giving him the "behave yourself" stare from behind FasustiMario's back. It looks like sexual healing was just what the doctor ordered. Good for them. :)

Aribeth, thanks for the music links. Speaking of music, I was surpised that in this episode the
producers used the same music for the antics of Carlos and Bertha as the music associated with the romance of JJ & Ale. I thought each couple would have it own special music.

Adolfo has to die, so that takes care of that.

I adored Carlos in the love making scene. It was bittersweet, and he was lovely. I'm at the Bridge of Sighs over Adolfo possibly killing Carlos. I feel like they are headed for a showdown.

Elsa's not important enough to be on the list, I'm thinking. She will probably wind up with Caramelo and Asunción anyway.

Hello Everyone!

Floridia, I was thinking the same thing about the music with Bertha and Carlos - hey that's JJ and Ale's music! Wasn't the music they use for Gabi and David used during the scenes with Elsa and Mauricio? So maybe there is a "love" music theme and a "gettin' it on" music theme to underscore the difference in the relationships? I don't remember what music is used for Leo and Juli.

Wow. Poor Yolanda looked terrible. I think if "Mario" revealed who he really is to her she might crack and spill everything she knows. she's definitely on the edge.

I'm seriously worried for Yolanda, she's too depressed nowadays.

There are two or maybe softporn melodies they use for every sex scene. The music they used at the Gaby/David scene is the same we heard when Ale and JJ were in the jacuzzi.

There are two or maybe
I mean, "two or maybe three". :)

I give two or three months to Mauricio and Elsa. Have you seen that expression on her face when she met JJ? It's the same that "I'm Regina, I'm in love with Renato madly and I haven't met my soulmate yet" had in CS all the time.

Ah yes, there is a "let's get it on sexy sax" (soft porn) music that's played for hot love scenes in this tn.

Elsa still needs more time for Mau to really get into her heart and boot JJ out. Poor Mau. Well, we know a nice single girl who would love to have him....where are you Mina?

Should Mau kidnap Elsa and put her on a boat on the high seas for months on end to cure her of her feelings for JJ and make her fall in love with him? It worked for JJDD in CS. :)

I'd love that! :))
In my humble opinion a few passionate, healthy and exhausting Scarlett-and-Rhett-on-the-stairs scenes with mucho sexy sax music would solve Elsa's problem for good and all. Go back to the seaside without the kids, Garnica, Zaida, JJ and Ale and do what other fresh couples do when they are in a tropical paradise.

I guess I'm the only one who wants Elsa and JJ to end up together. I know Mau is a very nice guy, intelligent and good looking, but I am still hoping something might happen that will get JJ and Elsa together.

I know Mina would be very happy and I feel she and Mau would make a perfect couple. But I'm sure Ale would be very heartbroken. Maybe someone else will come upon the scene who would be more compatible. I think Elsa and JJ have a lot in common.

Oh, well, I can dream, can't I???

Looking forward to your recap Aribeth and thanks Jeri for the links.

Ann-NYC

Ann:
Aside from the fact I like JJ and Ale, I think the big problem with JJ and Elsa is that something went seriously wrong between them and their relationship may never heal. When I rewatched the kiss scene my heart broke a little bit because they were great friends and both were much likeable... Now they are bitter and hostile towards each other.

I loved, loved, loved the Fausto scenes in this episode! He's such a caring father figure/uncle.
David also became very likeable, playful and calm. His scene with Gaby and Abelardo were hilarious. Poor Abe, he has so many problems with the Genovéses. :)

I wish Bertha grew a brain. Both for her and Carlos's sake.

Jeri: "I'm at the Bridge of Sighs over Adolfo possibly killing Carlos". Oh dear. Beautifully stated though.

Aribeth: I totally agree. Unfortunately, Elsa is "just not that into" Mauricio. I think she wants to be but her heart isn't hearing what her head is saying...

I love Mau and Mina Vivi! So much in common. Ann, I wish someone else would show up for Ale too. I just don't think she and JJ share the same philosophies regarding family, etc. I think it was a relationship built on physcial attraction that has faltered. I agree though that while I might have wanted JJ and Elsa together initially, too much has happened and the wounds won't heal.

I had thought Elsa and Carlos might end up together. He's too good for Bertha! (I write as I sniff imperiously) :)

Diana

I always seem to be down on Ale. I don't dislike her but I can't say I like her either. I'm ambivalent which is probably not how I should feel about the main heroine. Hot or cold -yes but probably not lukewarm.

In all fairness, maybe I just don't like her and JJ together. They just seem to bring out the worst, and never the best, in each other. Their beliefs and attitudes are on opposite ends of the spectrum with no similarities to bind them.

Geez, I should be working but I can't stay away. Always such great comments.

Diana

For me snobby but intelligent, proud but good-hearted, experienced but not whorish Alejandra is like fresh air and I find her chemistry with JJ good enough to root for them. :) I also can feel with her fear against having an 8 years old child and her uncle when she and JJ know each other for 6 months only - though I wouldn't mind raising adopted kids.
But I can see why you don't like her much.

Wow, I just learned a new information: LVO is a mix of El camino secreto AND Al final del arco iris, a novela produced by Ernesto Alonso in 1982. It was written by María Zarattini and José Rendón.

Here's the story:
link

Magda Guzmán played Bertha and Ana Patricia Rojo was Caramelo! LOL!

And Martín Cortés, who played Juan José in Al final del arco iris, was Juan del Diablo in the 1977 version of Corazón salvaje.

Btw, in Al final del arco iris Elsa and Juan José were the protagonists, Alejandra and JJ have never been lovers and Alejandra got strangled in the middle of the telenovela. I highly doubt it will happen here.

Thanks Aribeth. I wondered where the whole JJ, Ale, Asuncion, Elsa, Caramelo story line came from since it didn't seem to be a part of the Camino Secreto clips you shared. They did a good job blending elements of the Al Final del Arco Iris (interesting considering my Wizard of Oz comparison), with the main story of Camino Secreto. I also don't think our Ale will meet the same fate, but it sure does make the custody issue simpler. LOL at Ana Patricia Rojo playing little Caramelo.

I thought the Ale/JJ/Gregorio/Elsa/Asunción/Mauricio character were completely new but obviously I was too naive. :) And wow, it's an Alonso telenovela! :)

No matter what others say, I love telenovela mixtures. I found CS09's story very intriguing, too. It's a shame that the characters weren't layered enough.

Al Final del Arco Iris (interesting considering my Wizard of Oz comparison)

Yes, it's interesting indeed. :)))

I was wrong, Magda Guzmán didn't play Bertha, she was Alejandra's aunt. Bertha is a character from El camino secreto.

Aribeth, ITA on Ale and JJ. JJ looked so lost talking about his love of carpentry during the business meeting. Ale would’ve understood this and always showed softness in trying to help him with his problems. Sex is big in their relationship (hey, why not?) but so is the after-pillowtalk.

Elsa is a sensitive person. The way she’s handled Caramelo’s feelings and the very difficult custody situation has been stellar. She needs a sensitive, thoughtful man like Mauricio. She never took flight with JJ so she keeps looking back wondering what might have been, but she needs to look at the possibilities of what she has before her. I agree Mauricio should whisk her away for some one on one. I’ve always liked Mauricio but he turned me on for the first time at the meeting with Garnica at the beach, when he quietly but angrily told him Elsa was with him and not to presume to ask her to take notes. He showed passion in that moment and she needs to tap into it.

Did anyone else see a smidgen of paternal pride or protectiveness in Adolfo when he corrected Dante Sevilla to point out that it wasn’t his son but the other guy who killed the maid? Or am I grasping at straws?

ITA on David, the wheelchair, and Gabi.

Ok, recap is up! Thank you, Aribeth. :-)

Thank you, Jeri! :)

Vivi:
but it sure does make the custody issue simpler

I'm not sure about it. In Arco iris Elsa and JJ were in love, of course they adopted the little girl.
In LVO there are two women: JJ's lover who doesn't want Caramelo and JJ's friend who wants her. But JJ is The Father Figure in both stories. There are three possible endings:
a) Elsa, Mauricio and Caramelo (JJ & Asunción visits them)
b) Elsa, Asunción and Caramelo (JJ visits them)
c) JJ, Alejandra, Asunción and Caramelo (Elsa visits them)
I root for the third version and I think everyone has a destiny in this telenovela - and the proud Alejandra's destiny is to become less snobby, learn humility, accept Asunción and fall in love with Caramelo. I may be wrong but I'd love this scenario.

The scene in which JJ was talking about carpentry was somehow heartwarming, it reminded me of his old, bearded jailbird self. Maybe this is his destiny, going back to the roots, forget this stupid hotel/tourist paradise business and his nouveau riche manners, and do what he loves the most. He has enough money to open his own IKEAs. :)

***
I just had an epiphany! We never understood JJ's hostile attitude towards Mauricio... But in Arco iris Mauricio was in love with Elsa, the protagonist and JJ was jealous because he finally realized he was in love with, her, too... This explains everything! They must've used the old scenes from Arco iris where JJ was mad at Elsa (his future wife) and suffered from jealousy, but they completely forgot this won't work perfectly in a story where JJ is in love with Alejandra. I knew it was bad writing.
Aside from this storyline, which ruined Elsa for me and made JJ look like a complete ass, it's a great telenovela.

Aribeth- That's what I meant. The Arco de Iris scenario made the custody issue much simpler. Dead Ale; JJ and Elsa in love. Bingo. The LVO situation is much more complex. But I like how we have NO idea how this custody thing will end. Keeps us on our toes for any little shift in the situation and the characters' attitudes.

Oops, I misunderstood your post. :) I thought you were refering at the Elsa-Caramelo or the Ale-JJ-Caramelo versions.

Loved the recap Jeri. So what does David have in mind? Obviously it has to do with a disguise. I'm curious to see how this plays out.

I'm thinking Elsa is still in love with JJ. At least they acted more civil with each other. Poor Caramelo feeling stuck in the middle between her beloved uncle and Elsa. This tug of war for her is to true to life, I'm wondering how it will be resolved.

Carlos and David both got their groove on with their significant others. Wonder how will Adolfo feel when he finds out his sugar plum is getting it on with his son.

Oops I did it again. Thanks for the recap Aribeth and the links Jeri.

No problem, Pirate Babe. :) Here's a hint:

- very well written recaps with 1-3 pictures = Jeri
- very well written, very long recaps = Vivi
- recaps with grammar errors and 10-12 photoshopped pictures = Aribeth
;)

"Everyone loves Daddy Fausto, and Fausto, who also loves his biological, adopted and countless foster children, tries to convince Alejandra to talk with Juan José."

I loved this line and the pics of Ale and Fausto. He is a gruff, but he has such a big heart and affection for the "kids". I wonder how much longer he will stall that talk he's supposed to have with Gabi "tomorrow"? I bet it won't happen soon. He's going to keep avoiding it, like Dora keeps avoiding testifying about the murder.

Niecie- I also caught the hint of pride/protectivness/? in Adolfo's voice as he assured Dante it wasn't his son who actually killed the girl, but another guy. Adolfo is a complex man. There could have been all kinds of motivations for him wanting to make that clear to Dante. It could have just been that he wanted to minimize anything Dante could use to play dirty.

Aribeth, loved "Mauricio: headdesk" and the photo of Mauricio giving JJ that look. Thanks for the facts on what Yolanda did and didn't confess to Carlos. Someone really needs to stay with Yolanda day and night. She's too depressed to be alone.

Chicles, now that you know the letter you stole is important to JJ, what are you going to do? Chicles drives me crazy and Caramelo breaks my heart. Yep, they're like real kids.

ANN - NYC

I'm in your corner re JJ & Elsa.
Here's one way to look at it: If JJ had been with Elsa right away, he would not have had a chance to sow his pent-up wild oats which was "sorely" needed. He still loves random kissing and flirting,so he may not be ready for commitment.

Elsa needed an opportunity to take on more challenging career opportunities instead of just living for and idolizing JJ. She has shown herself to be a great mother who truly loves Caramelo and vice versa. She can easily combine a career and motherhood.

Now that I have learned about the ending of the previous novela(s), I will hold out some hope for
JJ & Elsa. True love will heal the hurts.

What about Ale & Mauricio together?

I agree that Adolfo was proud to indicate to Dante that his son was not a chip off the old block.

I agree with those who think that
JJ has been out of place with the proposed projects. Ironically, as el diablo Dante seemed to indicate, he should do something that really interests him...expand upon his talents and take ownership.

I think Maria Sorte is beautiful.
Yolanda has become a tragic figure
in this novela. I was afraid she had already taken her own life
when Carlos arrived the second time.

Is Magda Guzman the actress who
played the confidante in Sortilegio? I adored her in that role.

Aribeth, thanks for the great recap. I was listening carefully to the first conversation between Carlos and Yolanda. I heard everything correctly, but I thought I had missed the part where Yolanda revealed that Marta was his mother (which she did not do). Thanks for making it crystal clear.

I envision a big graveyard scene near the end where Juli, Carlos,
and Gabi honor their mother's rebuilt tomb.

CORRECTION:Previous post by
Floridia.

Jeri, thanks for the links since that is all I have along with a phone to view LVO.

Diana, glad you made it back home from the ice. I so agree with your comment on JJ and Ale, "They just seem to bring out the worst, and never the best, in each other." YES!  At this point, I'm not emotionally invested in either Ale or Elsa for JJ, sadly, the only person that he has been really enthusiastic for is Gabi and she is married ( well kinda married!). You know, you have to admire someone who talks about their prison  "shop" experiences in a meeting about a multi-million dollar development in PV! Keep it real JJ!

Gabi and David have wonderful chemistry, a joy to watch!

Aribeth  "FaustoCupido"  to funny! Your photos were so aptly chosen as usual, thanks!

Aribeth, in your third senario, c) JJ, Alejandra, Asunción and Caramelo (Elsa visits them) that would make Caramelo have to bond with a second mom in one novela,  a third if you count early Limon!

All in fun!!!!!

Aribeth, great funny recap and great pics and so many interesting comments.

They were teasing us with the letter, now they are teasing us with Chicles and whether he will mention anything to J J or anyone about his having the LETTER. Good thing Chicles has a strict mom because he thinks like a delinquent and doesn't seem motivated yet to tell J j since he wants the letter. But I hope he will tell him soon.

Elsa is definitely hung up on J J but she has no hope with him as far as I can tell.

Wonder who or what will be recreated in high tech. I'd create a Marta so Adolfo would be shocked into talking....But I killed you. However, Gabi doesn't know yet how Marta fits into everything since Fausto keeps thinking manana is fine to tell her about everything.

Will Edgar turn out to be a traitor to Adolfo like Roberto was off and on? Ha, that would be great if he, Zaida and Dante put an end to him so the heroes would not be responsible for his death. No spoiler just guessing.
