La Verdad Oculta EP93 01/27/2011 – The stuff hit the fan. Twice.

*At AFI Leonardo wants to know every single detail about Juan José’s relationship with mysterious trio aka Garnica, Zaida and Sevilla. JJ obediently tells him everything and also mentions that Zaida lives in the same house as Elsa. Elsa who? Elsa Rivera, the sister of JJ’s cellmate! Hmm, qué interesante… Leo, the hound picks up the scent.

* In the Genovés villa Gabriela is diligently studying Business and Management 101 because she doesn’t want to depend on David and Mario every time she has to attend a business meeting. She also confesses to David she finds the book very interesting. Papa Blondie is proud, very proud. Kiss.

* Adolfo summons one of his goons to the condo and gives him an address and the names of two kids: Chewing Gum and Candy whom he’ll have to kidnap and bring hide at Yolanda’s flat.

* At JJ’s Asunción and Lucha scold Chicles for being a liar, and threaten him with sending him back to his daddy’s flat if he doesn’t behave well. Please, don’t do that, he doesn’t want to sell chewing gums again! He swears he’ll be a good boy which melts the adults’ hearts. Yeah. Five minutes later he tries to fish the letter again but he’s interrupted by Lucha.

* Leonardo visits Elsa to ask her about Zaida Castellanos and Dante Sevilla, but almost every single question of his is answered by curious and enthusiastic Ulises who tells the cop everything: of course, Zaida darling is his best friend, she found a job for Elsita who’s selling jewels nowadays! Leo admits that’s why he came there… jewels. The police suspects Sevilla is involved in the jewel smuggling business and now he has to arrest Elsa. Stuff meets fan, numero uno. While Leo is dragging her out of the flat, Elsa asks Ulises to call Juan José.

* Adolfo scolds idiot Zaida for mandhandling that kid in her own flat, and anyway, he’s sure she only wanted to use that letter against him. Braless feigns innocence and irritated Adolfo says okay, okay, but now she has to disappear for a while. In the middle of their conversation Zaida gets a phonecall from Leonardo who asks her about Sevilla. Who? She doesn’t remember any Sevilla. But you introduced him to Juan José Victoria. Of course now she remembers him. Look, Miss Castellanos, if she doesn’t want problems then take Leo’s advice and cooperate with the police. She gives him Dante’s address and Lionheart orders her not to leave town. When Adolfo finally learns she’s speaking with Faidella he almost starts to bang his head into the wall. Great! Now she can’t go to the seaside house and they’ll have to find another hideout.

* In the interrogation room Leonardo plays scenes from the procedural TV shows and tries to frighten Elsa (who’s already scared half to dead). Javier Garnica! Dante Sevilla! Zaida Castellanos! What does she know about them, what is she hiding from him, and is her jailbird brother connected with those people? Those guys robbed 10 million pesos from JJ.

* In the meantime worried Ulises tells the news to Juan José who immediately hurries to the AFI centre where Leo gives him and Elsa 10 minutes to talk privately. The crying girl and the worried pumpkinhead hug each other and JJ ensures Elsa he’ll get her out of prison. Just be strong and don’t worry, everything will be fine.

*In their bedroom David tells Gaby she has to attend in another meeting next day, and this time she’ll discuss the redesign of the hotels, but don’t worry, he spent the afternoon with figuring out what to say. Oh no, again? But she can’t learn everything in a single night… And anyway, she wanted to do something else that night, wink, wink.

* At home JJ tells Alejandra what happened to Elsa. And she really didn’t know the jewels were stolen, asks Ale sarcastically. Come on, her brother may be a criminal, but Elsa is innocent, says JJ and he remembers back to the good old days when she visited them in jail. Juan José’s worry for Elsa’s wellbeing makes Ale’s head fume.

* Next morning Adolfo’s henchman is spying on Asunción, Caramelo and Chicles who are going to school. The goon and his helpmate follow their taxi and try to catch them, but since they kids are late from work Limón begs the taxi driver to drive faster… and the bad boys lose their track. 1:0 to Asunción.

* When Yolanda wakes up in the hospital she sees this:

Muñeco! When he mentions the strange things she said while she was asleep (jewels, shoes, a dress, Marta, Santiago) she says they didn’t mean anything, she’s just becoming mad. She can’t bear more, she only wants to sleep… forever. She’s fed up with the tons of secrets, lies and infamies. And who obliged her to live that way? Adolfo?! No, Yolanda’s real problem is her own conscience that torments her and drives her crazy. Carlos doesn’t want to judge her since he loves her like a mother, but she must strengthen her heart and soul! But she doesn’t want to live anymore… Oh, Yolanda, no! He will help her… and to be honest, he also needs her support. That’s exactly what Yolanda needed to hear. Really? He needs her? Seriously? Of course! Then please forgive her! * Moustache, Yolanda and Viewerville cry*

*At the hotel FrancoDavid and Asunción set up the accessories for the next business meeting where the Fighting Genovéses do a stellar job.

* Leo shows up at Mauricio to ask a few questions about Garnica, JJ and Elsa Rivera. Mau tells him she used to work for him and they were going to marry. And did he know she was working for Dante Sevilla? No, Mau is really surprised at the news. And does he believe in Elsa’s integrity? Of course, he does! *Viewerville: good boy* Well, architect, there’s a little problem… Elsa is accused with smuggling and she’s under arrest. In the meantime at JJ’s Alejandra tries to cheer Caramelo up who’s missing her mommy and starts to teach her how to use the computer.

* A furious, hot policeman shows up at the Ávila condo and asks amused and self-assured Adolfo about Dante Sevilla. Oh, Dante! He hasn’t seen him for ages. Leo thinks, he did meet him recently – thanks to Zaida Castellanos. Zaida who? Sorry, Adolfo doesn’t know any Zaida. Of course, he does, they met in a restaurant and she confirmed it. Basta ya! Adolfo’s fed up with Leonardo’s visits and his threatening. Next time he’ll have to talk with his lawyer first. Oh, is he talking about Javier Garnica? He is his lawyer, isn’t he? Adolfo’s ears start to fume.

*Alejandra and the kids spend a very pleasant afternoon in a shopping centre. This time the gangsters manage to follow them and while Ale and the children are having fun (and Ale is trying to keep Chicles from stealing toys), they damage the tires of the woman’s car. When they return to the car park Alejandra notices the destroyed tire and the genius decides to ask help in the mall. She asks the children to stay in the car and lock the doors while she’s away, but darling, you don’t know Chicles. As soon as she leaves, the little boy opens the door – and gives an opportunity to the goons who kidnap the helpless children. Stuff meets fan, numero dos.

Thank you for the links Jeri.

Aribeth, thank you in advance for your recap. Can't wait to read it. I am posting from Greece therefore time difference plays a role of when I read and can participate in this forum. So therefore, sometimes I don't get a chance to thank you for your recaps on that day.

That little kleptomaniac Chicles just can't keep his hands off anything. It was nice of Ale to take the two little ones shopping especially since Caramelo was missing her 'mother'. But it looks like she will regret it, since she knows what JJ's reaction will be when he finds out. I personally would never leave kids in the car on their own especially in such a big car park with so many people around, I would have taken them with me. Anyway, what had Ale forgotten? Didn't understand that part.

Adolfo has really stooped real low this time by kidnapping two kids just to get a letter.

Nice moment with JJ and Elsa, reminded me of the their good old days together. Why was Leo questioning Elsa, was it something that JJ said?

I had a tears in my eyes when Carlos and Yolanda were together. Very sad. At least she knows that Carlos will always be by her side.

Margaret

Thanks, Jeri!

Margaret, you're in Greece? That sounds great, I spent a fantastic holiday in Athens 10-11 years ago.

I almost feel sorry for the kidnappers, Chicles will drive them mad.

Okay, here are my two cents:
I was left in the car a few times and I'm still alive. However, I was at least two years older and I'm not Chicles who unlocks doors just for fun. I for one would have never left the kids in there, but she obviously doesn't know much about children, and the goons would've kidnapped them anyway.

It's interesting that in the world of so caring real and surrogate parents...
- JJ, Lucha and Asunción don't mind if the kids open the door.
- Lucha doesn't notice when Chicles disappears for a long time with a blonde Poison Ivy.
- Basically anyone can enter Elsa's flat and hurt the kids while she's in the next room. (And people wonder why I lock every door like a paranoid.)

Anyway, what had Ale forgotten?

You mean why she went back? The tires of the car have been pierced by the bad boys and she went back for help. Imho she could've just called JJ or someone else.

Thanks for the links Jeri!

Oh dear. I thought this was one of the saddest episodes to date. A sweet kiss between Gabi and David and a fun mini-shopping spree were the only light moments.

Margaret, I found myself tearing up a few times too, especially in the scene with Elsa and Juan. It was so touching. For a moment, they forgot the petty squabbling and became the friends they should have been all along. I am hoping this begins their reconciliation. There are many problems to be overcome but they're on the right track.

I thought Leonardo was unduly harsh with Elsa. He's grilled a murderer (Adolfo) not only less intensely, but I don't recall him hauling him down to prison and interrogating him there.

I smiled grimly when the kidnappers were thwarted by the very cool cab driver, but knew successful evasion was near its end.

Burlap sacks? Ack. I found the scene very upsetting and never really got back to sleep.

Aribeth, loved your keen observations about the parents. Spot on. Can't wait to read the recap.

Diana

I agree that the kidnappers are in for a handful with Chicles. :)

Diana- I agree that Leo was too harsh with Elsa, but he has been mad at her since she lied about seeing her brother post prison break and then avoiding him. And she always seems to somehow be connected to these shady characters- Roberto, his dad, Carlos, her brother, Zaida, and Dante. Of course, no one ever tells her anything, so she's totally clueless about all the intrigue. She's more in the dark than Gabi was!

And Leo has hauled Adolfo down to AFI before, and harshly. Remember the evening he got the fake ring from the jeweler in his office? Leo's also been up in his face, accusing with him too.

Looking forward to the recap later!

I usually go to sleep too early to watch LVO when it first airs, but for someone reason I woke up and turned on the TV at the point where the car was tailing the kids and Asuncion in the taxi. Seeing Chicles and Caramelo snatched and wrapped in blankets like that was very disturbing. I had trouble getting back to sleep when the episode ended. I feel so bad for poor Ale too. When I was coming up, my parents sometimes left me with my brother and sister in the car briefly for quick runs in the dry cleaners and such, but today is different. I once had to walk away from my goddaughter for a few minutes in public but I kept my eyes on her the whole time. I'm still PO'ed at Chicles though for unlocking the door.

On the plus, I think Chicles still has the cellphone Juan threw on the floor, Caramelo will remember Juan told her to contact him whenever anyone bothers her, and of course, Leo is experienced at rescue ops.

Aribeth, so glad that you enjoyed Athens. Greece is a great place for a holiday.

Aribeth, so it was help for the tyre that she wanted. Totally forgot that. I agree with you couldn't she ring someone for help, even, eg., Roadside Assistance.

I agree with everyone, the kidnappers don't know what they are in for with Chicles, lol. He will find some way to escape with Caramelo. He is a very resourceful kid.

Adolfo is realling digging himself in deeper with this caper. Just for a letter, couldn't he just break into JJ's home. I feel that JJ is going to go beserk over this, then heaven help Adolfo.

Margaret

This was a tough episode.

My mother would leave all of us three girls in the car with the windows rolled down back in the '50s.  It was hot in Douglasville, Georgia in the summer. Not only that,  people would stop and offer candy or chewing gum and we'd take it. The last time I was in Copenhagen, a couple years ago, mothers were still leaving children in strollers outside stores. Our culture is different.

Dianna, I too thought Leo was unduly mean to Elsa, she is obviously a victim, not a perp.   I have had experience with police officers too, teenagers and fireworks  They can be very hateful even when you give them respect and cooperation. Our whole family and neighboring boys were "scared straight!".

More later....

Good afternoon todos. Airbeth--we all wait for your recap.

In the meantime, about Leo's hauling in Elsa to the station and giving her the third degree--she was accused of being involved with contraband jewelry, a pretty serious crime. Leo is still trying to make connections between Marcos, Elsa and the jewel smugglers.

Leo handcuffed Adolfo in his own apartment and had him taken down to the station on a fishing expedition, but Ado knows about asking for lawyers.

I don't think Leo really believes Elsa is involved up to her eyelashes, but maybe by scaring her, sh'll come up with a few details he's lacking.

And he was very polite to JJ when he showed up, even though he is not a lawyer.

Leo is beginning to put the lines linking Zaida, Garnica, Dante and JJ as to who knew whom first, after talking to Mau. Mau recognized that it was all over between him and Elsa. I wonder if that little flame has gone completely out or if there are some hot coals left to re-ignite.

The Chicles/Caramelo kidnapping was a shocker. There was no build up from one episode to the other as per usual. Bam! It all happened in one. First, I can't believe that in a busy shopping center, even in the parking garage there was NO BODY around to see this car pull up and leave it in the middle of the lane, two men jump out with burlap bags and snatch two screaming kids--AND leave the car doors open.

Poor Ale, I'm sure she is going to think they ran off at first. JJ is going to blow his stack. Yes, she should have called JJ first.

Good thinking, Niecie--I hope they got the cell phone to work again.
Newbie-O

Hi everyone!

"Less than secure" seems to have been the theme of this TN. Nothing has ever been really secure - Mario's house was easy to infiltrate even with a security staff, Garnica's "security" briefcase took a fast trip with Chicles and later his safe was taken from his home, it was easy to get the key for Elsa's flat, and then there's the tunnel house - which, as we all know, was secure as a sieve. The only place that seems to be safe is the crack behind the mirror. I now have to wonder how "safe" Adolfo's safe is going to be?

I noticed Ale was quick to jump on JJ for seeing Elsa until she found out Elsa was in trouble. I think Mauricio and Elsa will get back together soon.

I just knew as soon as Zaida moved in across from Elsa there was going to be a kidnapping. I just didn't think it would involve both kids.

Looking forward to the recap. So much happened in this episode. The kids were kidnapped in a scary scene. That reminded me of a time a child went missing at a department store where I worked. The stored called a Code Adam and locked every door until the child was thankfully located.

You know Alex is going to hear it big time since it happened on her watch. Although she may not have meant in harm in leavin the children, Alex will now learn the hard way that you never leave children unattended. Not even for a second. My heart was racing when the thugs grabbed the children. Ugh.

Then, Elsa is taken to the station for questioning about those hot jewels she sold. At least JJ came to see about her and I was glad to see them being affectionate with each other even for a brief moment.

Leo is putting the squeeze on Adolfo too.

Wow, what an episode. Eagerly awaiting your recap Aribeth. I still can't believe Adolfo stooped this low to kidnapping children. Perhaps this will be the mistake the starts his inevitable downfall.

Uh-oh.
Sorry, ladies, I arrived at home an hour ago and I had a very busy day! Once again I need one more night - tomorrow morning the recap will be ready. (There will be a recap, the sketch is done already, I'm just very sleepy now.)

***

It was so bittersweet when crying and smiling Elsa said to JJ they would've never guessed that one day HE would visit HER in jail.

Maybe this is the time when the boys should team up to help her. I can imagine that Elsa and Mau will get together again, too. He obviously wants her back and now she knows that JJ and Ale are dating again.

I loved how bored Chicles was when Ale was dressing up Cara, and how uninterested Cara was when she was dressing up Chicles.

Xlnt:
The only place that seems to be safe is the crack behind the mirror.

:)))))

Aribeth- No worries about the delay, as my recap was going to be delayed until Sunday anyway. I also have a busy weekend-- not fun, just finishing some work docs.

Just watched the episode, and the hospital scene between Yolanda and Carlos gave me tears of joy. So touching.

Carlos needs her help: really? she asks. Please forgive her. Very sweet. :-) I adore Carlos. Nothing bad better happen to him or I'll never rewatch this show! LOL

Tsk, tsk. Alejandra dropped the ball all the way around. In fact, the kidnapper only tampered with the valve and let the air out of her tire.

And were she resourceful she could have changed the spare herself. She can run auto CAD, a business and a construction site -- but not a jack and tire iron?

Leaving kids unattended in the car in the D.F. was gross negligence. At the time of filming in 2006, Mexico was literally the kidnapping capital of the world.

The first kidnapper is pretty hunky; beautiful hair. And did anyone note that the second kidnapper was Tony Vela -- El Coyote, from FELS? I liked Coyote.

Yes, I noticed Cayote, most recently the hunky and stupid police detective in STUD (he was no Leo). He had hair!

One of the funniest moments in last night's episode (aside from the taxi and shopping scenes) was when Adolfo was telling his henchman the names of the kids. He said their silly candy/gum names with such disdain. I could just hear him tsk tsking in his head about the things people name their kids these days! LOL!

Xlnt, this novela's lack of security features does drive me up a wall as I am still ticked off over the louvered windows in the second Genoves house. As lax as Ale was, Chicles again caused a problem when he defied her authority and unlocked the door. Yes, he will probably somehow use that scheming brain to foil the kidnappers eventually.

I am glad Carlos revived Yolanda's will to live by stating he needed her support. Very touching, as that's all they really have is each other. Adolfo, not so much, as he will always think of himself first.

Well, Ale might have to lower herself from that high horse when she admits to J J she did something not too bright. However, she did pretty well in taking care of the kids which was a big job to me until...they were kidnapped.

What is Adolfo planning to do with these kids in the end? Send them back home, I hope. But kidnapping seems like a pretty severe crime to commit. But then again, Adolfo doesn't plan to get caught. How ever his track records stinks.

GinCA

Hi to all; arrived home late. The episode was indeed tense. It was a beautiful sight to see Yolanda's face transform from despair to surprise and hope and a desire to begin life anew.

I must confess I was guilty of leaving my children in the car many years ago in the quiet suburbs of Boston, but there were 4or 5 of them close in age and they were guarded by 2 large dogs. However, I would never do it today.

I am in full agreement with all those who thought Leo was too harsh with Elsa. It was his gruff manner which we don't see too often. With Elsa, I believe
it was definitely overkill. He obviously needed to take her down to headquarters, but that itself was scary enough. He could have demonstrated more of a calm, professional demeanor and still have gotten the job done.

In an earlier post, I mentioned The Ransom of Red Chief by O Henry.
If you don't know the story....
2 kidnappers took a young boy who was an absolute menace. When the father received the ransom note,he turned the tables. The kidnappers had to pay the father to take the kid off their hands. They gladly paid the money to ditch the kid and get out of Dodge. We'll see how Chicles handles this one. Even though his mother is aware of his wily ways, she still does not keep on top of him enough. He always slips through the cracks.

Really enjoyed all the comments.
Aribeth, no te procupes; will enjoy the recap whenever you have
time to post.

Floridia, totally forgot about that hilarious story; thanks for the reminder.

Thing is, the kids' benefactor (and Alejandra's fiancé) is a mega-millionaire who has already suffered a blackmail plot -- to which she is completely privy.

He's an ideal target for ransom, even if Adolfo weren't at the bottom of it.

Ok, recap is up. Thanks again, Aribeth!

I've posted a space for Friday's episode. Recap will be up later.

Aribeth- Many thianks for this recap and the lovely pics. I liked the one of Yolanda's first sight upon waking- Carlos. That was a sweet scene.

Aribeth, thanks so much for the recap. Now I understand better why Adolfo was angry with Zaida. I really thought Zaida was trying to get the letter for Adolfo, and not to use it against him. But double-crossing abounds in Adolfo’s world so I can see him doubting her. My favorite line: "Braless feigns innocence."

I thought Ale's steam over JJ seeing Elsa went out of her when JJ chastised her by saying something like "for pete's sake Ale, of course Elsa didn't know the jewels were stolen." Chicles is more than a handful. Ale deserved a medal for the way she watched over him in the department store. Too bad she missed big time in the parking lot. I once drove with my nephew sitting in the front seat when as it turned out legally he was too young to sit in front. Now he knew better but enjoyed front-seat freedom and putting one over on me. Even though later his mom tried to make me feel better by pointing out that my nephew is tall for his age, I still felt bad. The fact is folks like me who don't care for kids on a regular basis just aren't as adept at this things as custodial parents. I'm on pins and needles wondering whether the kids or Elsa will be free first.

Thanks Aribeth,

Everything great about this recap -wonderful details, great pictures.

Jeri, thanks for the links.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU EVERY DAY !

A very funny and helpful recap, Aribeth. Thanks galore because we know you are very busy person.

Ay, Chicles!

I think I like the Toledo character from FELS and the cop from STuD without the hair especially since it's a reddish color. Don't know if he was wearing a hair piece. He looks much more interesting bald.

Jeri, thanks for the links.

GinCA

Oops, Coyote fro FELS and Toledo from STuD, I think.

GinCA

Aribeth, thanks for the fabulous, fantastic and FUNNY recap. Just a few of my favorites:

“Chewing Gum and Candy”----Did the writers plan it this way?

“Braless feigns innocence”----If you are braless, can you feign innocence? Just asking!!!

“The crying girl and the worried pumpkinhead”---I had to give it to pumpkinhead, he came through for Elsa this time!!!

“And anyway, she wanted to do something else that night, wink, wink.” ----Finally viewerville gets a little romance, just a LITTLE mind you!

“* Moustache, Yolanda and Viewerville cry*”---Yes, that was a three hanky moment!

Aribeth, your recaps are delightful, thanks so very much!!!!

Aribeth: Wonderful! So many great lines and the pictures were marvelous! Loved the one of Carlos especially...

Favorites included "Leo, the hound picks up the scent" and "Papa Blondie". This was terrific.

"He swears he’ll be a good boy which melts the adults’ hearts." Ack. Who would have thought the children's plight would rest on the wily Chicles' shoulders? I have complete faith he will rescue them.

Aribeth, thank you for noting that Elsa mentioned to JJ who would have thought he'd be visiting her in jail. Repeating these interesting conversations and statements is very important to those of us who rely almost totally on these wonderful recaps.

My heart goes out to Elsa as well as Caramelo and Chicles. Hope these storylines end quickly.

Diana
