Triunfo del Amor #19 1/27/11 Like Father Like Son: Two Men In The Mood For Makin' Whoopee

[Since there doesn't seem to be a regular recapper for Thursdays now, I threw this together.  Feel free to add whatever I left out and I'll add it in.  If the recap shows up I'll gladly take this one down. --Tks, for the assist Urban Anthropologist and Susanita!]

Osvaldo has just caught Oscar lending his shoulder to Victoria as her crying rag. He confronts Oscar and Antonieta gives him a load of sh!t for his misplaced chauvinism. Who’s he to talk? Oz tells Toni to stop beating around the bush and come out with it if there’s a problem. Pepino rushes in and pulls Toni out of the room before she gives the goods on seeing him with his high-class Ho-for-Hire. Oscar sees his chance and gets the heck out of there also before any more fur flies. Osvaldo and Vicki are back to apologizing for their mutually misdirected disses. They kiss and make up.

Linda says yes to Juanjo and can’t take her eyes of that diamond ring. Back in the apartment, Maria and Natty are disgusted with the whole set up. Linda says no biggy, anything can happen between now and some future wedding. Obviously, marriage isn’t in the plan, especially since Osvaldo is back in the picture.

Bernarda and Juan Pablo argue over his determination to look for his bastard child. Burnie, in a gusher full of pious histrionics, screams that it is a sacrilege for a priest to admit to having a bastard child. Afterwards, she decides that inventing a sham serious illness will prevent Her Son The Priest from his fool’s errand and later that day checks herself into the hospital.

JP visits her in the hospital room and she lies about how ill she is and blames his attitude and disrespect for making her so ill. Victoria has heard she’s in the hospital (dunno-maybe she’s got ESP) and makes a surprise visit that afternoon. They spit and hiss at each other over whether Vicki or JP was guiltier, i.e., who caused whom to lose their virginity back in the day when their little bundle of joy was conceived. Vicki is there to demand Burnie tell her if she knows where her daughter is. Burnie insists she has no idea, though she knows lots of other secrets. Vicki gives up and leaves. JP asks his mother during her histrionics with Victoria to tell him exactly what secrets she was talking about.

JP convinces Vicki later to take him to the place where Vicki was run over and little Maria was lost. Vicki tells him what she remembers about that time: Antonieta had dashed off ahead to start supper. Vicki crossed the street; a car sped at her and hit her; when she woke up in the hospital later nobody knew where Maria was. The two women went immediately back to the area but nobody there remembered seeing the little girl and they never saw her again. Plenty of guilt and tears over the lost hija-a-a-a!

Linda and Natty show Maria the morning papers at breakfast with a picture of Max and his supposed fiancée from Fernanda’s party.

Milagros and Juanjo have a houseguest, her nephew Cruz who has come to D.F. to seek his fortune. He seems the open, affable type who will clean up nicely.....Here's hoping [Pablo Montero] will shave this time; this guy should never have facial hair.

At the Casa de Modas Fern and Gabi show up for a playdate together at the design studio. Fer barges in on Max and Fabian first. Max gets on Fer’s case for faking the picture to the press because it could get him into trouble with various “associates”, aka, Maria D. Fabian makes the mistake of asking Fer if she liked his gift, a music box, and Brat-Baby tells him that she threw it away because it was a stupid gift. Fabian eats his sh!t sandwich, swallows, and licks his lips.

Fer joins her Mama during the runway rehearsal. Max shows up two minutes later to watch also. Vicki gives Maria some direction that Maria disagrees with. Vicki tells her she admires her gumption. Maria brings up the fiancée in the news. Vicki says it must be a mistake because Max doesn’t have either a girlfriend or a fiancée. Problem solved for Max and Maria.

Oz’s on-again-off-again conscience kicks in and he’s in the mood to revive the romance in his marriage. He invites Vicki out for dinner and she agrees. He’s got everything set up in a private hotel suite for the two of them when she arrives. Vicki’s enthralled. It’s just what Dr. Laura would have ordered.

Back in the barrio, Max is waiting outside Maria’s building for her. She hops inside his little two-seater and they start the smooooching. Maria says Max is saved from a fate worse than death because his mama spoke the truth. Max and Maria are in luuuv. He says it’s time they prove it to each other by (as they used to say in the day) going all the way.

As you know, Jardinera, I'm not watching...but Lordy, you are a peach to jump in and do double duty in addition to helping out on Eva Luna. You get my vote as Top Recapper of the Year! (and now I'll be singing Makin' Whoopee the rest of the day.)

Double duty is right; kudos!

Milagros and Juanjo have a houseguest, her nephew Cruz who has come to D.F. to seek his fortune. He seems the open, affable type who will clean up nicely. True to Televisa superstition there was a reference to construction work from FELS. Here's hoping he will shave this time; this guy should never have facial hair. Makes me wonder whether Nathy (geek girl like Sarita) will get him in the end.

Bernarda's tirades are so excessive they are more in order with opera than verbal drama. Shrinks call this Histrionic Personality Disorder.

I'm waiting for JP to give her a reality check on sanctity. Aren't some of the most popular Catholic saints reformed sinners? And with bigger sins than one sin of the flesh? She must not know about the Renaissance popes and their bastard children. I wonder what she would say about Padre Alberto.

For that matter, if she was so concerned about her own sins were there no Magdalene Laundries she could have turned herself in to? She's in for a nasty surprise when she discovers that this girl she wants to be motherly to is the bastard child in question.

Jardinera, terrific title and great recap. Enjoyed so many lines but "crying rag" and "Brat-Baby" were my favorites.

I'm already tired of the constant bickering between Victoria and Os. Doi any of their reconciliations last any longer than a day or so?

I like Toni, Oscar and Fabian (so long as he's not drooling over the loathsome Fer)...More screen time for these interesting characters please!

Linda and Junjo - not so much. I was glad to see Pablo Montero and think he's infuse some badly needed positive energy here.

Diana

Jar: you are amazing, amiga! Mil gracias!!

Gads...just looking at St. Bernard and her UGLY (did I mention how ugly!?) hair makes me sick! I hate that hair...long or in that ridiculous get up...I HATE it!

LindaHO: she will pay for being such a user.

Oz and Victoria: How long will this last?

Desinformada: continues in same mode. For her to say that she 'immediately' felt so comfortable with the witch known as St. Bernard just defies believability.

Agree with Diana...give us more of Toni, Oscar, Fabian, Pip and LESS of Fony Fer and LESS of Victoria's tears.

On a positive note, looks like JP WASHED his hair. now...he could do with a little trim and he would be one very guapo JP.

Gracias, gracias, Jar!!!

Susanita

P.S. I liked it when JP asked his mother during her histrionics with Victoria to tell him exactly what secrets she was talking about!

JudyB: Thanks for poppin' in, amiga. Glad to get your day off to a "hum-dinger" of a start. ; ? )
=============

Urban: I'm thinking that maybe Linda-ho will fall for him and forget about money making the world go 'round since this guy hasn't got two sticks to rub together.
============

Diana: Vicki and Oz constantly gritching at each other is driving me batty too! Fabian slobbering all over himself and tripping over his manhood everytime Fer insults him is almost as bad.

Susanita: Thanks for reminding me about that question! I added that in also.

LindaHo will only fall for Cruz if he makes it big. I don't know whether Pablo has a new song, but I would be shocked if he weren't required to sing in this novela.

And it damn well better be ranchera. Nortena doesn't need what he has.

Linda is a user of people. She's not going to change without a serious incident of some kind. I don't see her falling in love for real.

Uban: Tks for reminding me about Cruz. I added that in also and made sure to give you both credit.

Thanks so much for stepping up, Jardinera -- you did a terrific job!

I lost my cable connection a couple of times last night. At one point when the station suddenly returned, I saw St Bernarda lying in a hospital bed, dressed in white with her arms crossed over her chest. At first, I thought she was in a straight jacket, and that JP must have taken her to the manicomio (which, in my opinion, is much better than she deserves). Then I realized she was just practicing her corpse posture!

I love seeing Victoria and María together. Whatever weird stuff is happening around them, they project a connection that I find real and touching.

Urban, if Romo's portrayal were more naturalistic and less operatic, I don't think I could bear to watch. As it is, her nutso outbursts often make me giggle.

Oz and Max sure know how to smooch well on camera.

More of Oz and his understated acting. Super guapo!!

I'd love to see a catfight between Linda-Ho & Fer to balance out all the piety and innocence of everyone else
in this poorly written TN.

Thanks to all the recappers of the telenovelas especially for the two I watch Eva Luna and Triunfo del Amor, your dedicated work to keep us all updated and your added juicy/ funny comments which I love. Just to let you know how much I appreciate what you do, love you all. Nery D.

Muchas gracias to Jardinera, Urban Antho, and Susanita! =)

I am kinda disgusted with Fab's crush on Fer. She's an immature beyotch. Just get over her already. It's so freakin annoying!

Thanks for the credit!

Oh, I forgot to mention that Fer's spoiled brat treatment of Fabian's gift is not excusable. She is more than old enough to know that.

"Practicing her corpse posture" -- brilliant! While I'd normally say she's too young to worry about that she should definitely worry about Purgatory and Hellfire. Both are rolling out the red carpet for her.

Thanks comadre, Jardinera! Trying to keep this one on is tough. The recappers are what keep me tuned in. You're fantastic...
jb

NovelaMaven: "Corpse posture"!! LOL! Bring on the shroud!
==========
Nery D: Welcome! We appreciate you also!
=========
Cielo: "Just get over her already." ITSA! Such a whipped puppy. I've lost all respect for this guy. I'd like to see this relationship turn into a bit of the Taming of the Shrew.
==============
Comadre jb! Definitely glad we've got something to keep you in the manicomio with the rest of us!

Thanks for the recap and great work by the subs coming off the bench! I posted this yesterday, but so late at night I'm reposting:
Oscar, the comforter of Vicki, looked familiar and I realized that he played Felipe the sometimes silly casino manager in Corazon Salvaje. He also comforted the women he worked with there.
I have to enjoy the craziness here, since my feelings are lukewarm for the romance of it.
But I still love to exclaim "sweetwilliamlevyinakayak!"
La Paloma

Thanks for the recap Jardinera and UA and Susanita.

Still am on the fence about this TN but so love the closing sentiment of Billy in his little boat!

Fer and Linda in a death match (and both need to fall into a coma) would be great. And poor Fabian needs to stop letting her walk all over him.

Jardinera, thanks for giving us this and even taking the time to add that signature Jardinera flair. And of course, thanks to Urban Anthropologist and Susanita for pitching in.

Also belated thanks to Cielo de Levy and Kat for their recaps. I simply didn't get around to commenting Wed. and Thur. Both recaps sparkled.

NovelaMaven:

"Then I realized she was just practicing her corpse posture!"

Excellent!

Bless his heart, our Max seems to have a one track mind. Well, at least he's sincere about at least one thing.

Carlos

Due to uncontrollable snoozing, I missed all but the end. I didn't see Pablo.
Pablo Montero, cute, but nix the whiskers, I'm sick of 5 o'clock shadow, clean or pirate beard, in pirate TN's that is. Pls no Ave María, PLS, PLS. I guess he does always get the girl with the glasses.

Sí, Carlos, WL is playing himself, that cute little rascal.

We AAAll know where this is leading & the aftermath, preggers, but we also know they can't live happily ever after, not until Mejia gets finished with them.

Carlos: Max is just doin' what comes naturally. My advice is for Maria to get the rock on her finger first.

I adore Pablo and fortunately when I met him he was clean-shaven and wearing black (see photo on my posts)!

They should have had him rerecord "Ave Maria"; there is no good reason he couldn't have done it better. All his ranchera albums are beautiful.

I also hate that they often cut his hair so short when he's in novelas. He has such beautiful, thick hair.

Jardinera - thanks for the recap and setting us up for discussion. I actually watched this while I was sewing, so caught a good bit of it today.

Here's hoping the nephew "Cruz" doesn't try to sing Ave Maria!

Wasn't Pepino the butler in ADCLG?

Victoria's crying . . . ugh . . . please send her up here; we're in a drought right now.

The pay-off. I found the scene last night with Victoria crying copious tears while hugging Maria D. to be very moving. This may or may not make it worth putting up with the rest of it.

I'm beginning to wonder why I liked EPDA so much! It can't all be Mejia.

Always hopeful and the arrival of Cruz may be just what the doctor ordered for the strange Milagros- Juanjo household.

Jardinera and all- thanks for filling in and giving us a recap. I missed most of the show because two homicide detectives came to my door just as the show started. Yeah, really! A man died in the vestibule of my condo building on Sunday, and as the VP of the condo board, I'm their main point of contact as they try to figure out what he was doing in our building, who he was here to see, and how he died. I'm living my very own CSI episode.

Anyway, I turned the volume down really low, and I saw one of the detectives sneak a peek at my tv (Linda must have been on screen), but I was of course concentrating on what they were asking.

Hey, Manana es Para Siempre is on my tv right now. Lucero really played a great bitchy villain. All of the servants are terrified of her, and you can see why! And she totally is able to turn on the sweetness and light for the family- and she's believable! Once again impressed with Sylvia Navarro's screen presence, and the character's intelligence (despite being in the dark about her stepmom, fiancé, and family secrets), optimism, and realness. She and FC have good chemistry too (they just had their first encounter as adults). It's a shame they were kept apart, with her in the dark about his identity, for so much of the novela.

Thanks, Jardinera, Urban A., and Susanita, for coming to the rescue. I am surfing between this show and Herederos on Telemundo. I can't believe Os putting on the big romantic show in the hotel room after bedding that wiggly trollop. Guilty conscience, Os ?? I rather have a sandwich and loyalty than a candlelit dinner and adultery. Shame on you, Big Guy.

About JuanJo- the "actor" may be a fantastic and popular soccer player, but he is a lousy actor. I hope his presence upped their male audience, or whatever they decided to cast him for, because otherwise some deserving actor was shafted for no reason. In the scene with Milagros, the cousin and JuanJo at the table, you could see the other two actors, you know, act. But JuanJo looked like he was just waiting to say his lines, and his face looked blank the rest of the time.

Every time Max does something that I think is morally questionable, I FEEL GUILTY because I forgive him just because he's Max/WL. It's much like what I do for Enrique Iglesia. Lol! If anyone else is singing what he sings, I don't listen, but just for Enrique, I blast it while driving! Haha lol

Cielo, I feel you there on the Enrique. It's kind of embarrassing when you're in the car with your boss, and one of his songs comes on, and your boss starts changing the station, and you're like, "NOOOO! Leave it! It's Enrique!"

Ummm, not that I'd know.

Vivi! That's scary. Hope all goes well.

Holy moly, Vivi! Someone died in your vestibule?! Do they really think he was murdered, or is this just routine follow-up for an unexpected death? Scary.

He was a 36 year old fireman. So young and healthy. The only injury- a bump on his head that bled just a bit. He froze to death. The vestibule is really cold. What I got out of the detectives is that his mistress lives in my building, and he has a wife at home in MD. So there is no proof of murder, but it's very suspicious. At the very least he somehow bumped his head, passed out and died in the wee hours in our freezing vestibule. At the worst, the mistress or wife, or an unknown third party has something to do with it. It wasn't a robbery. He had his wallet, keys and cell phone on him. It's very mysterious.

HAHAHA! Julia, that's hilarious. That hasn't happened to me yet. Lol, when I'm driving home, it always happens where Enrique's on the radio RIGHT when I reach my house, so I back just keep driving until his song's over! Some times, it's him back-to-back so it takes like 10-15 minutes to get home from home! ;)

You're in my prayers, Vivi. That's quite a lot to digest having something so serious occur so close to home. Take care.

Susanlynn: Victoria and a dollop of trollop for dessert? We're supposed to forgive him because his male ego's been bruised? Not in my book!

============
ViviDC: CSI-DC! Weird! Your own murder mystery!

I thought you'd seen MEPS with the rest of us. We had a lot of fun with that one. It moves along, and I liked finally getting to see Lucero as a villana. I like her better as one, I think, though she was great as the heroine in Alborada.
==============
Traveling Lady, if you can place the scene for me? I thought that was the night before. Maybe it happened again and I just didn't remember it. I'm happy to add it.
==========
Cielo/Julia: I know the papa's work only but sonny boy is much better looking. ; > )

Jardinera - It might have been the night before. Disculpas.
I'm discombobulated by the State of the Union -- not the content, only that half of TDA didn't show up on my DVR! Priorities straight or what?

Thanks for putting something together for last night. It was well done.

Jar- I did see MEPS before. It was just nice to see it again after having just seen FC and Lucero in STUD. Lucero was way better as the baddie in MEPS than as the bipolar good girl in STUD. And fater now having a few more novelas under my belt, it was nice to re-confirm that there was a reason why I liked the Fernanda character as a heroine and Sylvia as an actress. Sometimes you just don't know if you like something because it was your first, or because it/the person really merits it.

Cielo...if "No me digas que no" or "Mamacita" comes on the radio, I have to listen to the whole thing, even if I've already listened to it on repeat half the day at work.

Aw schucks, ma'am (Susanita says as she shuffles her feet!) weren't nuttin.

Just really glad that I am getting so much more of the sometimes subtle comments and that I was actually of some help! :))

The actor who plays JP also has a nice voice. He's not an Evora or Aleman, but a very nice voice indeed.

Vivi: How absolutely scary...so very scary. Are you ever scared walking in and out of that vestibule?

Nothing would make me happier than to cut off St. Bernard's hair. Ha! What would happen to her then, eh?

I still have no clue as to why Victoria popped into St. Bernard's hospital room and how she even knew she was in hospital. That whole scene was one huge disconnect.

Susanita

She could have called the house and spoken to Tomasa, who by this time is probably waiting for Victoria to give Bernarda what for.

Great recap as usual! Thanks!

Does anyone know what novela [if any] Captaon Sylvia is watching ? ''Bailando por un Sueno : Segundo Campeonalo Mundial de Baile'' is on at 2 pm eastern today [Saturday]. She and I both enjoyed the Bailando show a few years ago that featured many novela stars [Angelique Boyer, Susana Gonzales, Iran Castillo, Jackis Garcia et al and Edith Gonzalos as one of the judges].

Vivi...YIKES. How terrible. Sounds like something out of a novela. [Os...beware.] The son of one of my best friends is a police officer in D.C. He is 6' 5'' and about 250 pounds. She says he enjoys chasing down the bad guys. He has lots of stories.

Vivi in DC - I'll bet the detectives were struggling to NOT concentrate on Linda-onscreen instead of what they were asking. What a fright for your building. Does sound suspicious . . . You have your own CLUE/telenovela plot right under your nose. !Vaya!

I have to admit that this telenovela is boring to me (I force myself to watch, hoping I'll get hooked), and I have more fun watching FELS on Telefutila, if I'm home at lunch hour.

OT: I thoroughly enjoyed Bailando back in the day. I wish they were still doing it.

I also am rewatching FELS at 1PM (as I am still unemployed) and thinking about the semi-withdrawal I expect when I do go back to work. I'm also watching La Otra, which just got moved to 9AM.

There is a Brazilian miniseries now on Late called Siete Mujeres in the former time slot of the Argentine MA. I'm going to give it a try, so I hope the dubbing is better than the other Brazilian programs on that network.

just found this site, very funny. moving right along, can anyone tell me the # of the "capitulo" where Max stands outside of MD's bldg. in the like a soaked cat, waiting for her to come down & soothe his sorrows & guilt, Thks. so much
