La Verdad Oculta #100: Red Herring in Elsa's fish bowl

At Mario's, jubilant Alejandra and Gabriela leave for the salon for Alejandra's wedding coif; but not before Gabriela disconcerts "Mario" over desiring an important conversation with him. Back in Édgar and Susana's room, he shocks her with news that during her coma not only was Roberto poisoned but that Garnica disappeared.

Édgar warns they shouldn't be seen together and he needs to allay suspicion by returning to Adolfo, whose orders to execute child hostages he disobeyed; thus Susana decides Édgar's basically a good person. At Adolfo's, enthused Dante is swooning over bringing high rolling Americans to their illicit archeological dig.

But Adolfo's subdued and presses to excavate more first, leading Dante to draw back and wonder at his tentativeness. Adolfo's sick and tired, so Dante offers him a pep talk recounting his meteoric rise to success and power. Still Adolfo feels all his bad deeds are coming home to roost and drag him under.

He's had success, but at a cost; and his sadness surprises Dante, who attempts to give misery company by acknowledging even though Dante repaid the jewel amount, he's still under investigation. And he's always admired Adolfo's strength to weather storms few others can. If they unite, they will emerge victorious.

Leonardo visits Yolanda who eventually simply explains what happened during the kidnapping. Though she never imagined Adolfo could do such a thing, Leonardo certainly did. And she reveals Chicles slipped the letter into the mattress of the missing maid, whose address Yolanda doesn't know. She agrees to ask Adolfo about it.

In Susana's room, her head still isn't working like it ought to; and suddenly she regrets confessing everything to Édgar. But he notes Susana also knows his secrets, which together can save their lives; so when Édgar requests she part with one of the diamonds to carry with him to Adolfo's, Susana agrees.

At the salon, Gabriela and Alejandra girl-talk, with Alejandra reassuring Gabriela no one is hiding things to hurt her -- right up until Gabriela asks whether someone has revealed things to Alejandra, and the stylist conveniently breaks in to change the subject.

In Mario's office, worried "Mario" discusses with Abelardo his intention to reveal only part of Márta's story during his inevitable meeting with Gabriela, leaving out Mario's paternity, her rightful heritage of millions, and that Julieta is only her half sister. Abelardo assures him little by little she will understand.

On their return, Gabriela enters Mario's office, while excited Alejandra rejoices with Abelardo on her upcoming marriage; he happily offers to plan their small celebration. Inside the office, "Mario" brings Gabriela up to date on part of Márta's story, including he was then married and she was murdered by Adolfo.

At Adolfo's condo, he just barely believes Édgar's failed execution story; but after considering the freak accident of Roberto's poisoning, decides he's just having a run of bad luck. Later Dante phones Adolfo with a plan to make Elsa a red herring to divert suspicion from them by framing Elsa for the jewel theft.

At Elsa's, Mauricio's counsels and soothes her that it's logical Caramelo would stay with the person who raised her; and surprises and delights her with the notion that a baby of their own could take her mind off this -- no, wait, how about FIVE babies? And this time she introduces the magic word, "marriage."

She takes a call from Caramelo with news of Juan José's wedding, and Elsa soberly explains she will return to "auntie" status. When Elsa confesses the sad thing is they are trying to take the child away, Mauricio thinks she's just confused and changes the subject by inviting her to dinner; and they share a warm embrace.

When Édgar makes a second apparently personal visit to Ulises to surreptitiously lift Elsa's apartment key again, Ulises gleans the understandably wrong impression and tries to make a little time with Édgar. He steals the key, and Ulises messes with Édgar's mind by not letting him exit without a kiss -- and then by kissing his hand instead.

Moments later upstairs, Édgar empties a small bag of clear gemstones into Elsa's fish bowl and exits. At Alejandra's architectural studio, she first teases Mina and then reveals with squeals that she's getting married the next day.

Adolfo visits Yolanda at home, and she claims she didn't report him, which so far appears the case to him. But she's incredulous he could be so sick as to execute children. They don't even have the infamous letter; what is he going to do, break into Juan José's house and check all the mirrors?

Yolanda recounts her story of their escape -- with the important difference that Édgar told them to run and left the keys. She confirms the thugs attacking him as they left, but Adolfo can't believe he'd be so stupid. Yolanda asks about maid Juanita's belongings, but he impatiently denies knowing and exits quickly.

Back at the architectural studio, Mina is just toasting Alejandra's upcoming "Mrs." -hood, when Juan José enters and calms his bride's wedding plan jitters with reassurances. At first Alejandra refuses to invite Bertha, when Juan José asks; but then she agrees to think about it at his noting Bertha's her only sister.

Adolfo makes Édgar sorry he returned by viciously jumping him with a revolver at the back of his neck the moment he appears at the condo. Adolfo's unhappy with the lame coverup of Édgar's disobedience. But Édgar thinks fast and bargains information about the diamonds for his life.

He's just about to spill the story when he pulls the single diamond given him by Susana out of his pocket, amazing Adolfo.

Thank you, Jeri!

Édgar empties a small bag of clear gemstones into Elsa's fish bowl

My beloved Psycho Eddie, I thought you deserved a better ending than Roberto but now I hope you'll get chocked and you'll suffer. Another jewel smuggling trap for a female character?

Thanks so much Jeri!

Okay now I am confused - are the jewels that Edgar put in the fishbowl the real deal (from Susana) or are they fakes?

Aribeth, I saw promos for Para Volver a Amar during this episode. Isn't that the TN you talked about in yesterday's comments? Is that what's coming on after LVO?

For some reason Psycho Eddie moved the fishbowl to the other side of the table and didn't return it to its prior spot. Will Elsa notice the moved fishbowl?

Xlnt, the diamonds poured into the fish bowl were smaller and more numerous than those in Susana's shoes. Adolfo must keep a extra stash of diamonds for just such emergencies.

LOL, Edgar was willing to receive a beso from Ulises. I guess he really is frightened of Adolfo
And with good reason, as Adolfo was just about to shoot poor Psycho Eddie with that gun with huge silencer. But wisely, Eddie planned ahead and had Susana's diamond to bargain his life. Will Eddie sacrifice Susana?

Want to see how Abelardo whips up a wedding in one day.

Jeri. I laughed at your title and I really enjoyed your terrific recap. Dante is an optimist with his big smile as he is "swooning over bringing high rolling Americans"...a great description. Thanks for the recap and links and great photo of the sparkly fishbowl.

GinCA

Jeri, your title and picture never fail to delight. Witty as always. Of course I laughed at your comment "something fishy going on there". Sometimes the greatest humor is what's stated simply.

I so enjoy your word choice and descriptive phrases including: "enthused Dante is swooning over bringing high rolling Americans to their illicit archeological dig" and "Mrs." -hood". Stellar recap.

I'm surprised Yolanda told Adolfo the truth about their escape but thankfully, Edgar had a dazzling diamond back up plan. Aribeth, I was also disappointed that he planted the diamonds at Elsa's, but he is a hardened criminal and murderer. He has standards - will not rape women or harm children but framing anyone is certainly not beneath him. GinCA, good point about him moving the fish bowl. Let's hope Elsa notices. We don't want anything else to go wrong for her.

Speaking of going wrong, I'm assuming the nuptuals planned for tonight don't occur...

It will be interesting to see how Bonnie and Clyde (Edgar and Susana) end up. Right now, they are the most interesting plot in this storyline.

Thanks again Jeri.

Diana

Jeri- This was simply perfect from beginning to end. I loved the title. :)

I am also hoping that the move of the fish bowl will make Elsa suspicious. The other thing I thought is that she may take the fish to Caramelo if she brings Caramelo's things to JJ. That would be fantastic and foil Adolfo once again.

I loved the bad guy pep talk. So funny.

I was also chuckling as Ulises came on to Eddie and then played with his head. I was wondering how far Eddie would go for his job. Now I know. Macho man Eddie was willing to be kissed by a man. What dedication. :)

I am also interested to see how explains having the shoe diamond (which ar way bigger and more valuable than the tiny ones they planted at Elsa's). Will he throw Susana under the bus, or find some other way of explaining things?

Man, I really felt Gabi's frustration when she figured out that Ale obviously knows about the things that are being hidden from her, and then acted like she didn't even remember what they were talking about. Does Fausto think dribbling little bits of info to Gabi is really going to lessen the impact when the big secret comes out that Mario was her bio dad? Come on Fausto. Out with it already.

I am sure Abelardo will whip up a beautiful wedding in one day. This is Abelardo we're talking about. :)

Good morning, noveleras. Thanks for the many kind words. :-) Yes, xlnt, I saw a post at Telenovela World this morning about a promo of Para Volver Amar (with Alejandra Barros) during our show.

The poster seemed to think that meant it was going to also be in the Insomniacs' Club time slot.

The whole fish bowl caper was kind of obscure, since they had no scene with Adolfo and Édgar about it. So I just described what I saw, not knowing if they were diamonds or what.

Certainly seemed like the location of the fish bowl will come into it at some point.

I think when Susana told Édgar he was basically a good guy, she was partly hoping it was true to calm her nerves.

I couldn't wholeheartedly agree with him when he admitted he was a killer but not despicable.

When Dante came to Elsa's the other day, though, I thought it was setting something up. I feel sorry for her.

The news that Para Volver Amar is starting soon is big. I know Aribeth was really excited for it, but didn't think Uni would ever show it in the States. Jarocha has given it really good reviews, it has a stellar cast, and it only recently ended in Mexico. I am surprised that they are putting such a gem on at the midnight hour, but then again, that's what they did to LVO (and 4 years later)! I wonder if it's advertised on Caray Caray that we'll get any volunteers to recap it. I will set my dvr. The announcement I found from Uni said that it will start in March, which makes sense since this is the last weeks of LVO (20 episodes=4 weeks).

Aribeth and I have LVO figured to end on Monday, March 7 -- so I'll have the last recap.

From what I hear this show is realistic like LVO and another show which was very popular and from which PVAA also takes some cast: Alma de Hierro.

Univision also did not run Alma de Hierro prime time, even though it was hugely popular -- and in fact wound up with top awards last year.

They first put it on Telefutura -- and then later ran it on Univision at non-prime time hour, IIRC.

Hey guys, yesterday was a free day due to "day of the flag" and I went out at night and ate my first burrito (my second actually, but my fist one was a Canadian one). It was really odd how they put lettuce in it but it was pretty tasty. Heh, there's nothing like the taste of street food.

I'm surprised Uni has decided to run Para Volver A Amar, even at the midnight hour. It seems to me that Univision has stronger guidelines about its novelas on prime time. They seem to be more restrictive than even Televisa on showing stronger themes.

Jarocha

Loved the recap Jeri. I'm thinking Susana will regret putting her trust in Édgar since it seems he's about to throw her under the bus.

Now Elsa has been set up to take the fall for the stolen diamonds. Right when she and Mau are getting back on track and she's accepting her tia status with Caramelo as well as JJ and Alex's upcoming nuptials realizing that it is just a mechanism to take Caramelo from her. It seems she can't catch a break.

OT. Aribeth, I think someone from Uni must be reading this blog. I saw a promo for Para Volver a Amar that is coming muy pronto. I wonder will this be replacing LVO when it is finished.

I noticed Edgar moved the fishbowl too, but I didn't think that it might be Caramelo's fish. Too funny if it is. Will we now have the "gallivanting goldfish" as well as the "letter with legs"?

My hubby got home early and started watching just as Edgar went to Ulises place. I told him I thought Ulises was hot to rub Eddie's manly shoulders. Then, whadda ya know? He does! We both had a good laugh at Psycho Eddie's discomfort. Adolfo can't fault Edgar for not being dedicated.

So JJ had to convince Ale to invite her own sister to their wedding. Does Ale even know where Bertha is?

Pirate Babe, we've been discussing PVAA; see above...

xlnt, LOL! I had to laugh, but I sure hope there is no gallivanting goldfish.

Probably Bertha carries her cell and Alejandra can reach her.

Xlnt, Pirate Babe: thank you, ladies, what a wonderful information! Every critic and most viewers were singing praises of that show, they say the acting is stellar, the writing is good, the story is believeable and realist, et cetera. It's about 6 marriage couples who struggle with different problems. Which marriage will last, who will break up?
As long as I know Alejandra Barros has a serious domestic violence storyline. (No spoiler, it's from the very first promos of the show.)

You can watch the fantastic entrada here:

And the marvelous René Strickler plays Rebecca Jones's husband! Yummy. :)

And the promos of three couples (the first is Barros's):

Oh, it'd be lovely if Uni read this blog. :) However, PVAA and it's future has been discussed many times on different forums. For a long time it seemed it'll never be shown at Uni since it isn't a typical telenovela... Midnight isn't the best timeslot, but it's definitely better than nothing.

Vivi:
Yeah, recaps would be great, but it depends on our blog mom and the number of volunteers. I wouldn't mind recapping it but only once in a week. (And to be honest, every second week would be like Paradise.)

Oh, if I was Gaby I would've grabbed a pair scissors and would've threatened her cousin with it: "Ale, if you don't tell me thruth, everything you know about my dad, Don Mario and Adolfo, I'll cut your hair! And you'll be bald at your wedding! Understood?!"

Uh-oh. Since Bertha betrayed the family many times it'll lead to a very interesting situation if she accepts the invitation.

I watched the 4th episode of Rafaela, and guess who showed up there? Silvia Ramírez! And in the next scene Arturo Carmona was lying in a bed in a hospital. Ayyy, bomboncito.

Jeri, thanks as always for the Super Speedy recap loaded with details and beautifully written.

I think Edgar moved the fishbowl so that he could face the door alerted to a possible interruption and discovery of his presence; Rule#1 with Mobsters: Never turn your back to the door! Love the idea of the "galivanting gold fish."

I enjoyed the scene with Ulises. apparently he got the vibe that he
needed to proceed more slowly. He had to be satisfied with a few
moments of intimacy - massaging shoulders, gentle hands on Edgar's knee and a kiss to the hand.
Do you remember the song, "I want a man with a slow touch." Ulises is biding his time, but I doubt
that there will be many more
opportunities. Still, that key does need to be returned. I see
Edgar's acquiescense not so much
as dedication to the job as FEAR
and a passionate desire to remain alive.

Thanks to all those who gave info on Para Volver a Amar. I am familiar with only 2 actors:
Renee Strickler and Magda Gusman in addition to A. Barros. I like both of them very much although
I did not care for RS in Cuidado.

Adolfo was inded convincingly dispirited.

Oh, I had posted this question late on Fridays's blog. How much
of a waiting period is needed to marry in Mexico after obtaining a marriage license? In Florida, it is 3 days.

Not sure Floridia. Over on Triunfo, the galan just did the same thing-- decided within one day to marry the heroine and went down to the courthouse to make it happen. However, being a pure Catholic girl raised by nuns, she refused. It will be a church wedding for her. :)

Alejandra and Juan José are getting hitched civil at home; I was kind of wondering if they will get a church wedding later on, with 20 episodes left.

Jeri, thanks for another stellar recap and the links, I used them both today.

Adolfo's plan of illegally selling Mexican antiquities to Americans is really dumb. Mexico takes it's art patrimony and historic artifacts very seriously. Adolfo and Dante will have more than Leo on their case, they will have two GOVERNMENTS after them. Good, they deserve it!

Jeri, gracias for the recap. I'm still awed by how smoothly you move through all the machinations. My favorite line: "coming home to roost and drag him under" and "upcoming "Mrs."-hood." And viva la "high rolling Americans."
