Llena de Amor #123 (Mex. 128) Fri 2/4/11 No Soup For You!

It is a dark and stormy night...

Victoria finds herself alone with Emanuel at the remote hacienda of the Ruiz y de Teresa family. Now this is episode #128... 128 hours we've spent with this family (give or take a few commercial messages) and does anyone remember even once hearing this place mentioned? ... I thought not. Well, nevertheless here we are, alone with our main couple and Vicky was about to whip up a batch of Marianela's famous chicken soup...

Think about it for a moment, is there anything that is uniquely Victoria? She has Marianela's eyes, she smells like Marianela, she kisses like Marianela, she wheezes like Marianela, now it's Marianela's soup... oh, I forgot... there is that endearing Vicky lisp... nevermind.

Ouch! While we were distracted, she nicked her finger. You guessed it... she bleeds like Marianela... Sorry Emanuel, no soup for you. Just as well, a clap of thunder... lights go off... a startled Vicky clings to Manny... sipis, everything is right on schedule.

Back at the naco dorm, Gretel profusely thanks Netty for her successful intervention on behalf of Oliver. I doubt that Netty ever even entertained the prospect of any other outcome. Her concern at the moment is for Emiliano. She thinks that it's high time that Gretel reveal the truth to her dad. Gretel has one abiding fear in that regard... Fedra, who is ,

"...capable of doing the same to my father as he did to Uncle Luis Felipe."

Meintras tanto, like a feverish squirrel in search of that one special acorn, Lorenzo frantically ransacks the house in quest of the Lirio loot that Muñeca and Flor have stashed away.

Eman and Vicky are having a candlelit chat in the kitchen. He thinks she needs to eat something what with her being skinny and all.

"Are you trying to fatten me up?"

"Well a few extra grams wouldn't hurt."

"Well, I've never been fat and I never will be."

He reminds her that Marianela is fat and beautiful. I think it's time to change the subject, this conversation is not headed to a good place. Vicky leads in another direction. She doesn't want to talk of Marianela. That suits Manny just fine since now it's just the two of them here and certainly she must feel as he does, that there is something going on between the two of them and they are both adults. Now here we have the perfect opportunity for a major revelation as Vicky has difficulty keeping Marianela's childhood memories of this place separate from what she is saying. Eman's antenna goes up, but his pea brain is easily headed off at the pass and he ends up taking her to see the master bedroom.

If you recall, Brandon has paid a visit to Muñeca at her office and is poring over financial records in hope of establishing a case against el Lirio de Plato. Suddenly he discovers a fascinating fact that completely throws him off the scent.

"You adopted Ilitia?"

This was not information that Muñeca wanted to share with Brandon.

Aided by candlelight... does anyone think the power'll be restored tonight?... Manny and Vicky have found their way to the master bedroom.. Just one bed. There are other bedrooms but none have been prepared. Fancy that. Eman sees no problem. Lots of room. Vicky has a few impure thoughts as Manny explains sleeping arrangements. Back-to-back, even an intervening pillow if she wishes. No, she'll just... He assures her,

"Nothing will happen."

No. She's a restless sleeper. She'll make herself comfortable in the parlor. He asks,

"Are you really afraid to spend the night with me in the same bed?"

We'll let her think that over as we rejoin an increasingly nervous Gretel , flanked by a supportive Oliver, is trying to stammer out an explanation for her last utterance. An astute Netty already realizes that her fear stems from having witnessed Fedra's death of Mari's dad at the hands of Fedra. As Gretel melts down, Netty leaves the two alone and goes to make tea. Oliver croons soothing words to his frightened bunny, reassuring her that she was powerless to prevent Luis Felipe's murder.

Vicky cloaks herself in bravado.

"No way."

He asks her if she is afraid that he'll embrace her or perhaps even kiss her... but no, Manny is every inch the old-fashioned gentleman (caballero antaño) and decides to sleep in his little hammock with the chiminea to keep him warm. He'll be just fine. He reminds her to leave the door open to allow the heat from the chiminea to warm the room and then leaves. Our Vicky (or is it Marianela?) is feeling rather randy. After he's gone she mutters quietly,

"Emanuel, careful, it's more likely that I'll be the one to go out in the middle of the night to assault you... Marianela control yourself, por favor. Ay Dios mio, I won't be able to sleep. I'll spend the entire night thinking about him."

And with that, she lies down without even kicking off those high heels.

Muñeca tells Brandon the truth about Ilitia's roots. Unlike Eman, Brandon doesn't require a map. Muñeca pleads with him to keep her secret fo Ilitia's sake. Of course Brandon agrees and then realizes that this explains a lot. As he fondly enumerates Ilitia's character flaws, Muñeca has an epiphany of her own,

"You're in love with Ilitia, verdad?"

She asks, then adds,

"Just how far have you two gone?"

In the children's room, Lorenzo kneels at Cristian's bedside and touchingly addresses his sleeping son. He adores him and loves him dearly. He's sorry about the thing with his mom, but he'll make it up to him (resarcir). He kisses his forehead and then he has a sudden inspiration,

"Flora and Muñeca must have hidden the money here in the children's room."

He deduces that the brat (escuincle), Manzanita, would know.

Axel and Dee stroll into the kitchen arm in arm but quickly separate upon seeing a tearful Nereida cutting up an onion. He says,

"Buenas noches, Delicia. Thank you for this day, it was (here he turns and mouths maravillso) simple (sencillito), simple,"

and hurries off. Nereida notes that Dee looks quite happy and Delicia observes that Nereida looks bitter. They are joined by Paula who sees that Nereida is continuing to cry.

"Bernardo's still missing."

She's lost the love of her life. Dee offers that she should be jumping for joy then escapes. Paula agrees. Nereida seizes the opportunity to inquire about the size of the cellar and confirm that to enter its passages one must go through General Maximo's quarters. Well, we needn't have worried about poor Bernardo. Looks like the cavalry is on the way... wearing high-heeled shoes.

By refusing to answer her question, Brandon confirms Muñeca's worst fears. He tries to do damage control by telling her that it happened before she married Emanuel, but this is small consolation. She knows that he still has feelings for Ilitia then listens as he babbles incoherently about his mixed feelings toward her daughter. She indulges herself by smiling at the sweet sincerity of his protestations then shakes it off and sternly warns him that it must never happen again.

A voice booms out of the dark shadows,

"Manzanita, Manzanita niña bonita, wake up, por favor, Mañanita."

It's Lirio de Plata. Well, close enough. He needs to know were the money is hidden. She has doubts.

In trying to convince her of his authenticity, this Lirio manages to attract the attention of Flor who has no doubts,

"Ay, señor Lorenzo. Besides amusing your wife, now you put on this disguise in order to entertain the children?"

Manzanita rats him out telling her that he is looking for the money. He protests that he's just trying to protect Muñeca and threatens that by not helping him find it, Manzanita will be responsible for Muñeca going to jail. He calls Flora a metiche and stalks out. Flora reassures the little apple that Muñeca is not going to jail as she tucks her back in.

Spooky music and a creaking door accompany Nereida into Maximo's bunker. He is asleep, vocalizing his pleasant dreams of Fedra,

"Serpent of Evil, I'm going to dispose of you... rat from Hell."

She slips past him and enters the labyrinth. Some labyrinth. Oh well... Bernardo is giving himself a pep talk as he turns over his chair. Nereida rushes to his side and smothers him in kisses. Boy, is he ever glad to see her,

"Untie me!"

Not .
So.
Fast.

She wants to know what's in it for her.

Emiliano is in his cups. He stands at the bar but at least he is using a proper glass and not a straw. Benigno intrudes. He tells Emil that it's bedtime. Emiliano decides to unburden himself upon the nearest ear. Sorry Benny... you're it. He whines about how he's finally opened his eyes and come to the realization that Fedra has had a negative impact on his life and that of his children. Well hold the presses for that news flash. Have you ever wondered if Emiliano is always somehow reading from yesterday's (or the previous week's) script? A wise Benigno counsels that a bottle of whisky won't solve anything.

"Now finish your drink and go to bed, I'll be taking the bottle."

He leans on the bar and quietly calls out for Gretel.

"I miss you so much. Where are you?"

"Here I am, Papá."

It's a Festivus miracle!

Turns out that in exchange for setting him free, Nereida wants to be mistress of the keys once more and oh yeah... Mrs. Bernardo. What a coincidence, during his incarceration the only thing he could think about is how much he missed being in her arms and how much he wanted to marry her. No kidding? She hurries to untie him, he grabs her and kisses her and... oh my goodness, now he's stripping off her clothes, hmmm, black bra... black panties... yikes ! It looks as though they're going to consummate this thing right here in the cellar with the rats as witnesses.

He kisses her shoulder and tells her that everyone in this house will respect her as la señora Nereida Pérez de Izquierdo.

"Oh no."

"¿No?"

There's a pause in the action as she corrects him,

"la señora Nereida Pérez Y de Izquierdo."

"Of course!"

"Sounds better with the alcurnias (lineage)"

"With alcurnia, Y de Izquierda, mi vida."

He invites her to sit down for the ritual of love. She's game. Calling her his angel from Heaven, he kisses her arm, pulls it gently behind he back and begins to bind her wrists. I've never heard of this ritual of love. Must be a Mexican thing.

"What are you doing?"

Uh oh, this ritual of love has taken a nasty turn. He tells her that he is leaving her there. How dare she blackmail him? He ties the gag around her mouth and exhorts her to enjoy her honeymoon... with the rats.

In the dressing room of la Mala Noche, the Queen of the Night is despondent. The head pirate guesses that the Queen won't be dancing tonight, but he guesses wrong. It's the one thing that can lift her spirits.

"Bernardo warned me."

Drat that Lorenzo! Oh my, how she misses her Bernardo.

The reunion between Gretel and Emiliano is very touching. He asks about her health. Has she been taking her medicine? Gretel informs him that she has never been better and doesn't need no stinkin' medicine. She's with a man who loves her... proving that he up on current affairs he guesses,

"Oliver?"

He wants her to come home. Briefly put,

"No way. No how."

He weeps and pleads.

"You have to let me go, Papá, para siempre."

More lagrimas y por qués. Emiliano is a clueless boob, but he dearly loves his daughter.

Vicky is restless... and horny. It must be the rutting season for skinny Spaniards, We've never seen her quite like this. She sits up in bed and frets. She can't quit thinking about him,

"¿Por qué Dios mio, por qué, por qué?"

She asks the question that we've been asking for... well, the last two years.

"Why did I leave without giving him a chance to explain? It was all my fault. "

She gets up and goes into the room where he is sleeping in the hammock. She stands over him and debates with herself. She wants to wake him up, tell him the truth about Victoria de la Garza and then... She actually says out loud that she is dying for love of him. She turns to walk away but his hand snakes out and grabs her hand,

"You're not going anywhere."

At a motel somewhere on the road to the hacienda, Jorge, Andres, and Doris worry about Vicky and Manny. They needn't. Jorge has arranged for rooms,

"All we can do is wait here tonight and hope that the storm passes."

Andres knows the road and if this rain doesn't stop, no way they're going to be able to reach the hacienda,

"...see you guys in the bar."

Doris seems very worried about her friend having to spend the night alone with Emanuel,

"What a disaster."

After having boldly stepped forward, Vicky meekly tries to retreat. He asks why she was watching him.

"I was a little cold and wanted to be near the chiminea."

He offers her the hammock and even offers her a lesson in hammocking, lifting her and depositing her in the hammock.

Wow! It's warming up in here. Here tells her the truth is that she came in to be near him and that the mechanics of the hammock would facilitate closeness. She wants to be serious. He is. He tells her that he is bewitched,

"...loco, loco. I'd give anything to kiss you. ¿Sabes?"

Doris and Andres have changed clothes and he joins her in the bar where she is snacking on
cheese cubes and meatballs while sipping a drink.

"I'll have what she's having."

"It's a soft drink."

"Then I'll have a beer."

He has plans for the evening which include her. She does not share his enthusiasm and reminds him of Jacki. He informs her that he got bored with her and her jealousy. Doris calls him descarado (cheeky). He admits it,

"In fact, I'm so cheeky that ,my love, I came here tonight to ask you to spend the night with me. How about it?"

Wow! Bold and refreshing. No beating around the bush for this lad. Doris does not seem as impressed as I am. As he reaches to caress her face, she recoils in apparent disgust. Hey it was worth a shot.

Victoria (or is it Marianela?) and Emanuel warm themselves in front of the fire.

He leans in for a kiss. ¡GOLLLL!

Sadly, la Reina dances.... sadly.

Her fans love her.

Speaking of sad, our poor sad doofus Emiliano actually asks this,

"I want to know the reasons why you won't return to this house?"

I'm not kidding. Those are his exact words. Gretel tells him. Well, he wants the whole truth. She struggles internally then says,

"Fedra is perverse, Papá. A woman with no morals, without scruples. She's the world's worst liar."

Ummm, Gretel, honey, I think pretty much even your daddy already accepts those facts. She goes on,

"I was eight years old, when Uncle Luis Felipe died... "

as she is about to finally reveal the horrible secret she guards, up walks ... Bernardo, looking fresh as a daisy,

"¡Gretel!"

Maybe next time.

"No Emanuel, no, no, we shouldn't have done that. It wasn't right. It wasn't correct. You're married."

"Perdón, I was just demonstrating the kiss we have to give tomorrow in the filming. Sorry."

She asks him not to toy with her . He wants to know why suddenly she seems to have changed her attitude toward him. Before if he had tried to kiss her she would have taken his head off.

"This time you seemed to enjoy it."

They argue back and forth with a threat of a slap followed an angry defiance but I'm wearying of this incessant badinage and am wanting to post this recap. Clearly, just like the promise of soup, there seemed to be the promise of... well, suffice it to say there will be no nookie for you, at least in this episode, Emanuel.

Oh, Vicky did drop one final bomblet as they argued about Marianela,

"...she still loves you."

Carlos, great recap as always, thanks. Festivus miracle is LOL funny.

Yes, la Reina is really, really sad. I couldn't even get my husband to explain the attraction she has to her audience. The best he could come up with was that they must be putting something in the drinks.

I would really like to see Doris with Jorge.

Rosemary

Ay Carlos...of course you were in a hurry to post this. The Baylor game was coming on. And you won! In overtime! Congrats, amigo.

Now on to your wonderful recap beginning with the Soup Nazi's proclamation. Cute. Very cute.

"Lorenzo like a feverish squirrel"
Emanuel's "pea-brain, easily headed off at the pass"
Brandon "fondly enumerates Ilitia's character flaws"
and the winner:
Nereida..."the calvary is on its way wearing high-heeled shoes"

That was certainly a surprising scene. Miss Nereida has been hiding her bodacious attributes. Thought Bernardo demonstrated a lamentable lack of gratitude for the rescue, even with marital strings attached. He is definitely NOT a "caballero de antaño".

Your quip about Emiliano reading from an old script was so apt. Maybe he has short term memory issues. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU WONDER AT GRETEL NOT WANTING TO COME BACK TO LIVE IN THE HOUSE!!?? Plus, he always comes across so weak-kneed in his reliance on the bottle. I think Netty could do better. Although not sure with whom. Slim pickins for the middle-aged ladies in this one. Or in real life, come to think of it.

The Ruiz y de Teresa hacienda is the same hacienda used in Mi Pecado. Love the way Televisa recycles houses and even furniture. Bien hecho.

Just a delightful recap, Carlos. You certainly deserved a Baylor victory after this crisp, witty re-telling with a ton of pictures. Gracias, amigo.

Loved the recap and snark Carlos. I agree that MariVictoria is in major heat for some Eman loving. After all, it's been two years and all that pent up sexual tension is bursting at the seams. Those two will combust and soon me thinks.

Andre is putting the moves on Doris. She doesn't seem to be pleased about it. She's more worried about Mari and Eman spending an entire night together alone and what that could entail.

I was hoping Gretel would tell Emil what happened but alas Bernando shows up and nixes that.

I thought the dance from La Reina was improved but it still isn't something I would write home about LOL.

This was a really fun episode. Thanks for the great recap.

Audrey

Thanks Rosemary, Judy, and Pirate Babe.

Marivic and Eman almost wore me down with their incessant bickering. Both seemed in the mood, the setting was ideal, what was the hold up? Thank goodness for Bernardo and Lorenzo who saved this episode.

Rosemary, there is an earthy pungent vulnerable quality that Fedra has that tugs at some men's primitive genes. Alas, I am one of those. Plus the fact that she is a comic genius.

Judy, Baylor has struggled this season, but we have the tools to succeed, much as we had last year. We really miss Tweety Carter, he really sparked the team.

I slapped my forehead when Emiliano asked Gretel why she wouldn't come home. Just as Fedra is a broadly drawn slattern housewife, Emiliano is certainly a parody of an out-of-touch dad.

Pirate Babe, when Emil interrupted Gretel's narrative about Fedra to throw in his two cents, knew that it wasn't gonna happen. I was surprised when it turned out to be Bernardo, but I was not surprised that she didn't finish.

Carlos

I so loved this recap Carlos.
"Have you ever wondered if Emiliano is always somehow reading from yesterday's (or the previous week's) script?" Uh, yeah. I mean, I love Cesar dearly( that voice) and Emi is a sweet guy, but what they hey? He KNOWS that Gretel was kept in the cellar for two years by Fedra and still he asks why she won't come back to live? Oi!
Well for that matter, why is he still living there? He could have moved away from Fedra too... but that must be one special house.(Personally don't care for it.)

Rosemary, you took the words right out of my mouth. Andre may be cure and all, but he's a horrid player. I could definitely see Jorge with her - she deserves someone with some class, and I'm not sure Andres fits the bill. Even if they "redemm" him some how...they don't seem to fit well.

I will refrain from commenting on Fedra's dance scene....mother always said you don't have something nice to say....

Eman may have screw loose where the brain is trying to send the message that Vick is Mari, but I like watching his playfulness. I have a good feeling since said bridge to town is out, we'll have these two doing the tango for a couple days anyway. Should be good times.

Go Green Bay!

oops, meant to say Andre is cute and all...cat is trying to sleep on the laptop. Sorry

Carlos, delicious recap from soup to nuts. I mean that literally, of course, you covered the soup, the nuts, and everything in between in this episode in fine form.

Mari was clearly wanting something to happen...I mean, how hard is it to pull the dust covers off another bed and find some sheets and blankets? Now the only real block is that Eman is married to Ilitia. I think Mari would have given in by now, if not for that...even if she can't stand Ilitia, it's still not right, and she doesn't want to be the immoral other woman. Eman doesn't seem to care, which makes him less desirable in my view...I wouldn't want to be with a man who takes his marriage vows so casually. If he really doesn't care to be married to Ilitia and wants to pursue another woman, then he needs to tell Ilitia that and split with her, not just shop for fresh flesh behind her back.

I noticed that little look between Doris and Jorge in the motel lobby. I think something's going to happen there. Andre can just continue on his merry mujeriego way and leave Doris out of it.

Emiliano has got to be headed toward a storyline about dementia, right? How can he not remember from day to day how awful Fedra is? Why hasn't he ditched her yet? Such a great mystery. I'm hoping we'll get a good showdown between Gretel and Bernardo with Emil as a witness.

Thanks Audrey and daisynjay.

I watched a movie recently called Drogadicto on Cinelatino specifically because it starred Alexis Ayala (Lorenzo). It was very heavy-handed and almost certainly produced by a religious group. It wasn't a very good movie, but I mention it because Lorenzo's frantic search could have been lifted directly from that movie. There was a scene in which his wife, played by Ana-Patricia Rojo, had found and destroyed his marijuana stash and he ransacked his house searching for it.

daisynjay, I remembered how smitten Doris was over Andre when this show began and was so proud of the way she responded to him last night. Now watch her hop into bed with him on Monday. I prefer Jorge for her.

Carlos

Hey Carlos...even I miss Tweety Carter. Just watching him in those few games I saw last year...I fell in love with his chunky little torpedo self. Is he playing in the European ball clubs now? I figure he's too small for the NBA but I hope he gets a chance to play in Europe.

Daisynjay...I'm with you. Rootin' for Green Bay. Residuals from the time I lived in Wisconsin. Unthinkable to cheer for anybody else.

Julia..I agree Emanuel's behavior has been less than stellar. His argument has always been...hey, you're not engaged or anything, and we both have the yen so why not? Realistic...but hardly ennobling or endearing.

PS Thanks for filling in a major cultural gap...did not know about Festivus or Festivus Miracles. So relieved to now be in the know!

Thanks Julia.

I don't think this night will be over for quite awhile yet. I'm afraid that we're going to see a lot more talking before anything actually happens between these two. It would not surprise me at all if it happens on your night.

I'm intrigued by the possibility of a showdown between Gretel and Bernardo... or will she go fetal on us?

Carlos

I wish Emiliano were half as clever as Manzanita. That was smart of her, to ask "are you El Lirio de Plata or Todo Lo Contrario?" Wrong answer, stupid Lowrenzo. It was funny how Flora wasn't fooled for a second. I do wonder where she's got the money hidden that no one will find it. Bottom of the diaper pail?

Little Cristian was too funny pretending to be asleep; I liked how they kept cutting away to not show his face. Good job for such a tiny actor, though.

Carlos, poor Gretel. I was actually concerned to see how she still feared Fedra and Bernie so strongly - I guess I was hoping that her new-found confidence and strength would make her stand up and smack him one in front of Emi. She definitely needs out of that house, and I'm hoping that Oliver sticks to her like glue and Emi realizes she needs the troops to rally round her. I'm still in fear for her...

one thought...Max is bound to find Neri in all her finery at some point - is this another of Bernie's slip-ups - not realizing he just created a dangerous enemy leaving her like that?

Morning Carlos, thanks a million for your scathingly brilliant recap.

Ay Dios Mio I slapped my forehead and had to do a rewind when Emiliano asked Gretel why she would not return to the house. Pity poor papa's peabrain. I fear for Gretel's well-being when she's not in her Gman persona.

Speaking of dual personas, I think MarVicky is becoming increasingly confused about being Vicky. In other words, Vicky seems to be fading and Mari seems to be making a comeback. I would add that Eman is also a bit confused about her dual dueling personas but since he always has a WTF look on his face it's hard to tell.

Bernardo is a cad! And stupid too, what in the heck is is plan for Nereida? Maybe Beni will think she's some sort of gift left by the rat gods.

I've got to believe that Alexis Ayala absolutely loves prancing about in his leather suit. It's funny how he fooled his wife but everyone else immediately knows he's a fraud.

Just when I was beginning to like Andres he goes and backslides into his sneaky ways. I'm not a huge fan of Jorge but I'm ready for Doris to kill her infatuation for Andres and start exploring other opportunities; Jorge will do.

Thanks Carlos, and congratulations on your Baylor win.

I'm worried that Bernardo plans to get rid of Max and Benigno and possibly more people. But to prevent Nereida being found, he'd have to do in so many it would be hard for him to escape suspicion. Maybe he just figures Nereida is too insignificant to be a threat to him, even when she's found and released. Or, maybe Bernie plans to actually leave now. It's not worth staying with Fedra's abuse and everyone else now gunning for him, and he knows enough about Fedra's finances he could surely take plenty of her money if he escapes.

Thanks for your recap Carlos. It is interesting this new luxurious house has never been mentioned but I found the flashback an amusing way to try to cover this slip.

Like daisynjay, I'm concerned for Gretel. I hope Bernardo get a beat down from Emil and she can return to Netty's w/o being followed. Poor Emil, the writers have decided to make him one of the dimmest dad's ever.

I hope this unfortunate turn of events makes Nereida drop her stupid fantasies about Bernie. It would be interesting to see her constantly working against him.

Good point Karen. Bern and Nereida's relationship has been icky at best. I think they would be much more interesting as mortal enemies. Added bonus, if Nereida is concentrating on Bernardo maybe she will leave Delicia alone.

Thanks Sylvia and Karen.

Sylvia, you are right about MarVicky. She really was having difficulty keeping Marianela's memories off of Vicky's tongue. Too bad Eman didn't have little Manzanita along to interpret for him. She would have spotted those lapses and would have zeroed in on Marianela in a flash. Even Brandon is closing in fast on Marianela.

This would be the perfect time for Mari to reveal herself and begin repairing the rift between her and Manny. I'm really worried that Eman will seduce Vicky and then Mari will have yet another rival, more formidable, to contend with... yes,I realize how nonsensical that sounds.

Karen, I really hope this will turn out to be an eye-opening experience for Nereida. Except for very bad judgment and petty thievery, she hasn't seemed all that bad a person. Maybe she'll join the good guys. Of course Bernardo could flash that irresistible smile and all will be forgiven.

Julia, it won't surprise me if Bernie shows up at la Mala Noche for a tearful reunion with his Reina.

I hope that we're treated to the look on Max's face when he pops in to check on his captive. Or even better, have Benigno find her and have her be so grateful that the two of them become lovers.

Carlos

Bernardo? Irresistible smile? That's an oxymoron.

Sylvia, perhaps irresistible was not quite the adjective I was groping for. Certainly you will concede that it is unforgettable?

Carlos

"It's a Festivus Miracle!" LOL Carlos. Many thanks for the funny recap and pics. I just watched my recording, so couldn't comment before. I also had to slap my forhead when Emil asked Gretel why she wouldn't come back to the house. Say what?! Thank goodness he has that sexy smokey voice, because this guy has nothing else going for him. At least the dim dad in MEPS was on a steady diet of sleepy time milk. Fedra hasn't used her sleepy time drops on him in years, and his brain cells still aren't firing. Now I see how she conned her way into his life in the first place.

Oh Nerieda. Silly girl! Will she come out of this a better person? I doubt it. :)

Don't you just love it when galans try to convince the heroine that it's ok to get it on, even if he is married? They always get annoyed with the heroine when she resists. And at some point she does stop resisting...

Low is having way too much fun with that costume. Good for Manzanita for using her secret code with Eman to figure out Low was the fake Lirio. I'm even more impressed with Flora who knew the second she lay eyes on him that it was Low.

Benigno is way too good for Nereida. Nereida is one of those super-frustrating people...she's not so bad that you think there's no hope for her, but she just doesn't seem to see how much she has going for her, and how much better off she would be if she would just stop being such a jerk. The world is full of people like her.

I loved how Brandon kept his naco gentleman promise and wouldn't talk about his rendezvous with Ilitia, even under direct questioning. Of course from his refusing to answer, Muñeca got the idea pretty clearly, but the most he would say was, "whatever happened, it was a long time before she married Emanuel."

I don't think Emanuel is going to be able to keep names straight one things REALLY get hot and heavy. Should be interesting......

LOL!

Audrey

Hi Vivi, After watching Max (William Levy) in action on TdA, Eman is beginning to truly seem like an old-fashioned gentleman. Of course as Julie points out, Brandon is our real gentleman, if you let that little thing with Consuelo slide. Actually, I'm not certain that he's not a victim in that intrigue.

Audrey, it may not even matter since MariVicky can't seem to keep her identities separate some of the time.

Is there a way we can forgive Lorenzo for that little matter involving Begoña? No... I know we can't, He's such a sleaze and a murderer for good measure, but that guy has a way of making himself so lovable. I like his Lirio de Plata version the best.

Carlos

Love the recap Carlos as usual. Festivus Miracle with Dad & Gretel indeed until the Grinch Benardo showed up.

Getting bored with Fedra & her dancing, if that is what it is called, there must be a lot of caffeine in those drinks for anyone to applaud, I would be bored to tears or laughing at the comedy routine.

I am enjoying the play between Mari/Vicky & Eman. thought the bedroom scene was going to play out like It happened one night wiht the a pillow between them like the walls of Jericho. The wall is coming down sooner than later.

Happy that your Baylor won Carlos. Even happier Green Bay won over the Steelers & Brady got MVP(Pats fan I am). Even happier that the roof is intact & the snow is melting in Boston!!

Maureen, thanks. I'm so glad your roof held up and the snow is melting. We had ice everywhere Fri so Houston was pretty well shut down. Today it's already warmed up a bit and the sun is shining brightly.

The reaction of the crowd to Fedra's dancing seems all out of proportion to the actual performance. Those guys watching seem almost out of control. For some reason she always cracks me up as la Reina.

Carlos

Carlos, La Reina's theme music doesn't help much. It's almost comical. I sure wish I could get it out of my head.

We were talking earlier about recycled sets and props. You know those horrible Big Face things in Malicio's place, weren't they in Ximena and Jero's house in Gancho? Good lord they are hideous whatever they are.

Carlos, I want to thank you for the recap. This is the first time that I have left a comment and would like to say that I really like this telenovela. Right now I'm learning how to speak Spanish and watching the show since late Novemeber is a great way to pick up the language. I start watching the show while channel surfing and after seeing Lorena Enriquez and the two maids, Delicia and Nereida, I wanted to watch every episiode.

After watching Friday's episode, I felt bad for Nereida for getting tied up and left in the basement, but at the same time, seeing her stripped down in her black bra and panties, WOW!

Carlos, keep up the wonderful work with the recap and the pictures that goes along with it. Have a great day.

Scott

Welcome Scott! Wow Carlos, you managed to pull in another guy. :)

Welcome Scott! I hope you comment again. It's fantastic to have the male perspective.

I love playing "Spot the Recycling." That face vase was definitely in Xime's and Jero's apartment in Gancho. There's a similar piece that's flat and round and hangs on the wall that has made a few appearances.

The thing that's currently standing out to me the most is the exterior of the Sandoval house in TdA. It was the outside of Santiago's house in Tontas.

The exterior of the RydT house is the exterior of the main house (Genoves) in La Verdad Oculta, I'm pretty sure.

Welcome, Scott!

When Nereida's scene was on, I was wondering whether Ferro watches at all anymore...he would have appreciated that, too.

Blech. It's a vase? Good lord whatever compelled someone to purchase that thing in the first place? You'd think with all the fighting in Mau's place it would have broken by now. Unless it's plastic in which case double blech.

I will have to tune in to TdA just to spot that set. I wonder if the pear bathrobe will make an appearance in Llena?

Vivi, I have seen the RydT house too, but since I don't watch LVO I'm not sure where I've seen it.

I'm thinking Ferro didn't see Friday's episode as he probably would have said something. On the other hand he has bionic babe radar so maybe...

The pear robe has already made an appearance in Llena. Kristel wore it when she'd been snoozling with Mau and Fedra came knocking on the door and Mau jumped over the balcony and Kristel pretended she'd been in the shower.

Bionic babe radar! Love it. That describes Ferro to a T.

Welcome Scott. Carlos will be so glad to have some masculine company on this one. Mike is on furlough and so is Ferro. So you are especially welcome! (Not that you wouldn't be anyway.) And I'm sure the actress playing Nereida appreciates your enthusiasm. Makes that plastic surgery well worth it.

Welcome Scott. This is a great place to learn Spanish and have fun.

Welcome Scott, I'm so glad that you've joined in on the study group here. It' sounds like you and I have similar interests. I have had a special fondness for Doris (Lorena Enríquez) ever since she was Paula on un Gancho al Corazón.

I hope you'll join us often here for our discussions of this delightful show. Also, if you're learning Spanish, let me remind you of the closed captions which, when they are working optimally, can be a great help, especially during the rapid-fire discussions. Unfortunately not all the actors speak with the clarity of Emiliano and Netty.

For fans of recycling and Gancho, the evil Bernarda in TdA has inherited those huge tusks from Oscar's Pleasure Palace. Unfortunately she isn't using them as effectively in her little Home of Horrors.

Carlos

Carlos, this was brilliant, with tons of excellent lines. I loved “rutting season for skinny Spaniards.”

And Sylvia, I have to mention your “gift left by the rat gods.” Too funny.

Welcome, Scott! It’s great to have you join us.

So many questions: Why didn’t Gretel call her dad and meet him someplace outside that dangerous house? Why are Doris and the fellows freezing, while Eman and Vicky, not too far away, are barely dressed, but not a goosebump in sight? Why are there fresh vegetables and a fresh chicken in a house were nobody’s been for ages? Why doesn’t Max lock his bedroom door at night?

Was that a big scar on Nereida’s chest? The captions (terrible, by the way) covered it most of the time. Carlos, I don’t share your optimistic view of her. She’s been mean and snakey, particularly when she got promoted.

I get a big kick of our Lorenzo’s poses when he’s dressed up as the Lirio.

Maggie-

I don't have all of the answers to your questions, but I do have some:

Food at the house: Eman said to Vicky that the servants had gone to some festival in town and were likely stuck they because of the storm of the century.

Scar on Nereida: The actress has that scar on her chest and one on her arm. I noticed it when she appeared in Corazon Salvage. But I have no idea how she got them. Maybe I'll do some reserach on this actress. The cuts must have been deep to cause that kind of scarring. I like that she isn't afraid to show them. It reminds my of Padma Lakshmi (Top Chef) who isn't afraid to show her scars.

Doh! That's right!! Dang, you've got a good memory. I remember now that we even talked about it at the time.

Thanks, Maggie. You sure ask a lot of questions...

Actually, I asked myself many of the same questions. Only one bed made in the whole house, not another person in sight, and yet a freshly stocked pantry in the kitchen?

Maybe Max leaves the door unlocked for Paula, but you would think that she has a key.

I puzzled over Nereida's scar. It's perfectly horizontal and midline and directly over her sternum. I'm guessing that possibly a small tumor was removed and a keloid formed in the scar. It could also be a tracheostomy scar from infancy even though it seems quite low for that.

Carlos

Thanks Vivi, I flat missed that part about the servants, though I vaguely remember that they were expected back soon.

Carlos

Carlos, thank you for the scar explanation. I was wondering about that myself.

Vivi, I hope you find out more about the actress who plays Nereida. I like her very much and she is stunningly beautiful. It's interesting that she's not reluctant to show her scars.

Maggie, you do ask good questions!

The servants in that house have a pretty sweet job. They must have money at their disposal to stock the house, and also get their salaries. But the family NEVER goes there. They basically are getting paid to live in a huge house, with no work to do. They don't even make sure all the beds are made! Sign me up.

Thank you Vivi, for explaining about the servants. I didn't know that. Bad captions? Bad brain? Probably the latter!

And thank you Carlos for your input on the scar. It did seem to be in an odd spot. With the one on her arm too, I wondered if she'd been in an accident..

Maggie, the thing is, I've seen that exact same scar on the chest of a patient from Mexico (no, I think I would remember Nereida), but for the life of me I can't remember with certainty what she said was the origin.

Carlos

Vivi, may I join you as part of the staff? I can do a little dusting and weeding to live on that beautiful hacienda. With grocery money provided, I wouldn't even require a salary beyond that...it would give me lots of time to do some writing or something.

We don't actually know that none of the other bedrooms were in usable condition...it was Emanuel who said so, and he's not above a little scheming. MariVicky didn't seem to check.

Maggie, would you be cold, hanging out with Emanuel, who's lounging in front of a fire looking sexy? I think I'd find it plenty warm ;).

Wow. Fun discussion today. Sign me up for the hacienda too....if you all will be there.

I will be there. It's always been my dream to cook in a magically stocked kitchen. The possibilities are endless!
