Triunfo del Amor #45-46 3/4/11 A Triumph of Tedious Stupidity
I will begin with:
Part the First (In Which The Program Begins Almost 10 Minutes Late and Very Little Happens)
Miami: Glamour and Beaches.
Vic is talking to LindaHO, who is telling Vic that Sr. Sandoval has much to do and can't be bothered. Vic calls Gui, at Televisa who promptly throws under the bus. He says he has know idea where he is or why a woman would be answering his phone. Pedro of the bad wig and steel balls grabs the phone from Gui and begins damage control. He sent Osvaldo and a small crew to film some scenes at the beach. They will be gone all week-end. And the girl? Well, she could have been part of the crew...a make-up girl or something (could Pedro have been the one he called and asked him to cover for him?) Don't worry, everything is fine. There is some dialogue I didn't catch, but Pedro says he can't figure out why Gui sometimes does things that "damage" (perjudicar) Osvaldo. Gui takes offense. "You know he's my best friend." Gui says. "Well," Pedro responds "sometimes it doesn't seem that way."
Back to Miami: Beaches and a nauseous Ji/Xi-mena
María is in her room, Max is in his. He calls María's room. She can't get over how great her room is. She's never seen such luxury (lujo.) It's so cool! (padrísimo.) They plan to meet downstairs in half an hour. They declare their love and hang up.
Cut to Ji/Xi-mena throwing up again. (Ew! sound effects! We get it, ok?) As she washes up she says she needs to get Max to marry her ASAP (cuánto antes.)
Toni and Vic are talkng. Toni tells her she has enough things to worry about here and doesn't need to worry about something else. (Hmmm, the subject must be LindaHO.) Pedro is a serious guy, Toni advises. He would lie about why Osvaldo is at the beach. What really bothered Vic was the way that the woman answered the phone. She was very confident ...with "muchos derechos." (literally "many rights"...the implication is that this girl had dibs on Osvaldo...like he was hers.) Toni, (who probably totally knows what Os is up to) reminds Vic that when they are in the middle of putting on a desfile, they don't even have time to eat. Surely it's the same when you're working on a telenovela? It must be terrible. She even throws in a "poor Osvaldo!" (yeeaahhh, "poor" Osvaldo.)
Osvaldo and LindHo's butt on the beach. Running, Jet-ski, sharing drinks, slobbery kisses. I would FF>> if I were you...save your eyes from the horrors of the Butt Crack.
In Miami, Vic is apologizing to Fer for not saying goodbye. She left so early and didn't want to wake Fer up. Fer promises to behave herself, just like if Vic was there (yeeaahhh, right.) Vic thanks her and says she'll trust her (Uh, Vic: Rule of parenting #1 Never fully trust your kid, no matter how good they are.) Vic asks if Fer knows anything about her dad. Fer tells her mother that Micaela (the maid I misjudged) said he left Mexico City. Vic says she'll talk to him later. Fer and Vic say good-bye and Fer rejoices in having the whole week-end to herself alone and can do whatever she wants. Micaela looks on and reminds Fer what she just promised her mother. Fer says that no one can prohibit her from doing whatever she feels like (ni tú ni nadie me va a prohibir que haga lo que me de la gana.) Fer asks where her dad is. Micaela tells her at the beach...and adds that her dad is a very good actor. Fer says what's that supposed to mean. Micaela just says that he always convinces everyone...that is (o sea) his public. (This is one of those instances that is makes complete sense in Spanish, but we lose a little in translation.) Fer throws Micaela out and tosses a few pillows at her for good measure. She sits down to enjoy her seriously crunchy toast.
On to Veracruz and the clarinet (or maybe and oboe?) skankyho theme (I'll have to look at the credits to make sure they call it "skankyho." They probably aren't, but should.) More slobbery kisses. Rolling around in bed. FF>>
First commercial break.
As we return from commercial JuanHuh? is sitting in the living room watching TV. LindaHo's note is slipped under the door. He gets up and opens the door and there is Nati (wearing a bow tie? QTH?) He wonders what she's doing? What's up with the envelope? She explains that Linda asked her to deliver it. Linda is having to work in Veracruz to do the make-up for a Quinceañera. JuanHuh? wants to know why Linda didn't just tell him herself. Nati thinks quick and tells him that it was really late when Linda was contacted about the job and then she left really early. Nati leaves. JuanHuh? reads the letter (and looks a little miffed.) LindaHO's voice over explains that she had to abandon him to go work and make some money. She's sure she will be very bored working, but anyway (ni modo) necessity comes first.
Meanwhile, LindaHO and Os are basking in the afterglow of gross sex. LindaHo suggests a joint shower, delicious meal and shopping. The shower scene is next. Save yourselves! FF>>
Oh, the Parrish Crew. We haven't seen them in a while. They earned a lot of money today! They cheer they thank Lorena. (I guess she is their carpentry muse.) She says the thanks is for them because they accepted her and let her work there. Chipmunk guy (what is his name?) apologizes for being a twit (I didn't actually catch the word) and a kid says yeah, and a despeinado (unkempt...an obvious reference to his balding pate), too. The crowd makes friendly fun of his hair and JP looks on lovingly at his flock.
Fer is in her bedroom watching a flat screen TV (spoiled brat.) Micaela comes in and Fer is rude. Micaela tells her if you were my kid I'd set you straight. Fer gets snippy and says well I'm not your kid so get out. Micaela tells her she has visitors. It's your novio and his dad. RTSB has an overnight bag...guess he'll be staying a while. Fer runs and jumps in his arms. Puke. Oh ick, she turns around and calls Padilla her suegro (father-in-law) and hugs him. Seriously, I want to slap this little spoiled twit of a girl.
At the church Lorena is sanding. Enter JP. Lorena thanks him for helping her to find her way again. JP says he thinks God put Lorena in his path to help illumine one of the darkest times of his life. Lorena doesn't understand. JP just says "that no one has the right to humiliate you" (humillarte) and a few other platitudes. Lorena says if all priests were like him, the world would be a lot better. JP blesses her.
Fer and familia scuzbucket are poolside. Cruz trims the hedges in the background. Micaela asks if anyone needs anything. Papa orders a whisky, the two crazy kids ask for a beer. Micaela tries to tell them that they can't have alcohol, but papa and kids act like twits and send her on her way. Cruz just shakes his head.
In Miami María is looking for Max in the lobby. Joaquín turns on the charm and presents her with a rose. I believe he asks her to dinner. Max swoops in and tells Joaquín that he and María Desamparada (chug *hic*) have other plans. Ji/Xi-mena has also conveniently arrived and says a bunch of stuff I don't catch...I'm sure it's catty. Vic comes in and asks Max and Maria where there going. Max kind of stumbles. Vic tells him they aren't going anywhere. She needs to see Maria and Ji/Xi in five minutes to rehearse.
Second commercial break (and still, nothing has really happened.)
Models modeling. Pip coaching. Vic and Toni taking notes. Joaquín mackin' on María. Max giving the stink-eye to Joaquín.
Max asks Vic about Os. She says he still hasn't answered his cell.
Os and LindaHO continue to shop. They kiss behind a hat. (Now they want to be modest?)
More desfile rehearsal (which I find so comical. Does one *really* need to rehearse a catwalk...walk?) Joaquín stands and shouts "Bravo!" He thinks the desfile is going to be a big success. He would like to invite everyone to dinner, but he's pretty sure (dramatic pause) Max has other plans. "Yes" says Max "I have other plans...(dramatic pause) Joaquín." (ooo, I lerves me a good pissin' contest.) Vic tells Max his plans can wait and accepts Joaquín's invite.
Wow, another commercial break (and still we wait for something...anything...to happen.)
So we are back to Fer and RTSB at the pool. Papa is asleep and Fer and RTSB are a bit tipsy. Cruz looks on with disgust. Micaela is calling señor Fabian and she's urging him to come to the house to help with Fer (?) Papa Padilla wakes up and tells Cruz to go get him another whisky. Cruz says he's just the gardener. RTSB gets up and tries to start a fight with Cruz. Cruz dispatches him to the pool in quick order. Fer fusses at him. I have to say, Pablo Montero makes some very good "Clark Gable as Rhett Butler" facial expressions. I love it! Papa Padilla shows up with a gun and Fer actually laughs! (Twit.)
Ugh. More Os and LindaHO in Veracruz. Puke FF>>
Back at Casa Scandoval, Papa Padilla wants Cruz to get on his knees and apologize to RTSB. Cruz, of course, refuses to do so. Fabian (who is really guapo in my opinion) and the cops arrive. The police drag Papa away. Fab asks if Cruz and Fer are ok. She tells him to leave and snaps at him (literally snaps...like I do when my students are interrupting. Really it's quite rude now that I see Fer doing it...) Fabian lets Fer know that he's going to defend the house in her mother's absence (again, sounds melodramatic in English, but it totally works in Spanish.) Fer starts going off on Cruz and says everything is all his fault and says he's going to pay. Cruz seems unperturbed.
In Miami, the land of salsa, merengue and neon Ji/Xi-mena is trying to get into an ugly outfit and thoughtbubbling. Already it's too tight for her (further proof that the thing she's carrying is no human baby) and soon she won't be able to hide her pregnancy. There's only one way out and she's going to have to do it before they get back to Mexico. The only thing left for we the viewers to wonder is will it be drugs or alcohol that Max will be subjected to.
Max has arrived at María's room and he's channeling the fashion sense of Don Johnson and the 80's. He's determined to continue with their plans. María looks a little worried and says Vic is waiting for them. Max manages to convince her to come with him. He won't even let her get her purse.
In México D.F. Fer and RTSB are slinging back a few beers in the car (this doesn't look good.) Fer asks about Papa. RTSB hasn't forgotten having to sit in jail (remember that? After he and Fer trashed the CD store?) RTSB says dad can stay in jail and learn a lesson. Fer says why don't we try out this new car of yours. Oh this is not good.
Papa Padilla is in the jail cell....oh what a co-inky-dink, it's the same cell as Sr. Alacrán. Is this the beginning of a bee-yu-tee-ful friendship?
M&M on the beach. "Oh god I love you so much!" Max says (in English!) Maria says don't talk to me like that, talk to me in Spanish. Max asks if she's happy. Maria thinks "feliz" is not enough to describe how she feels. Thanks to the waves I miss some dialogue Max says some thing about this man....cargar...I promise you (whatever it was he promised, he'll probably be breaking it very soon.) More "te amo's" and even another "I love you so much" ensue. Max picks up María, slings her around yells "Te amo!" and we see a heart shaped depression in the sand covered with rose petals (of course.) There's plenty of candlelight. María loves it. Let the lovin' (and FF>>) commence.
RTSB is speeding down the highway. Fer is hangin' out the window. We *all* know where this is headed, so you might as well FF until they run into the ditch.
And I'm thinking that at this point the kayak would have been cued.
Here endeth part the first.
Part the Second (I can name that tune in 3 notes.)
Ok, Hubby is hoggin' the TV and I can't get to the recorded second hour. Here are the most salient points from memory (Well, there is some filler. There are really only 2 salient points.) Please note these aren't necessarily in order of the actual show:
- Fer and RTSB are not killed in the accident. Oscar is doing damage control.
- At home Oscar tells Fer she has everything a girl could want, why does she act like an idiot. Fer cries that her mother doesn't spend enough time with her.
- Vic et al wait for M&M to come to dinner. Vic and Ji/Xi-mena are actually wearing pretty nice clothes and somewhat matching colors. Fuchsia is a very flattering color on Vic.
- Ji/Xi steals a brown wig and destroys a dress Maria is supposed to wear in the show.
- Max wins his boat race. He and Maria are all smoochy and Ji/Xi-mena is catty. And Vic seems fine with it.
- When destroyed dress is discovered there is brief panic, but Maria is able to fix it.
- Maria is a hit on the catwalk
- Joaquin presents Pipino with the Golden Thread Award (Hilo de Oro)
- Joaquin steals two kisses from Maria on the catwalk (really, they were innocent pecks on the cheek.)
- Later that evening Max is pouting, being jealous and gettin' drunk. When Maria comes to meet him, he gives her a hard time about Joaquin. Ji/Xi-mena has witnessed the whole scene.
- Later that night, Max stumbles into his room. Ji/Xi-sneaks in after him (wearing the brown wig she stole earlier.) To make double sure the deed is done, Ji/Xi-mena blindfolds him with his tie. We are reminded of STuD. This is salient point #1
- Now my memory is fuzzy. Maria Magdalena is still locked up at Burnie's. Eva and she have a conversation in which Maria Magdalena reveals some information that makes it clear that she is NOT the child of JP. This info is relayed to Burnie. Who immediately calls a lab and asks about a DNA (ADN) test. This salient point #2.
- Burnie collects hair from Maria Magdalena's brush and her own brush. She entrusts Fausto with carrying the samples to the lab.

"Sara: Thanks for another terrific snark bark. The title says mucho. If it weren't for the melodramatic rooftop scene I'd have started snoring along with the two cats.....
I'll be doing this Friday's recap from sunny FL this weekend. It'll be hard to sacrifice a few hours of weekend sun, but I'll try! Nieto numero uno here I come!
Thu Mar 03, 02:54:00 PM EST"
I know you volunteered to do this one, but here it sounds like Jardinera herself intends to write it. I would hate for either one of you to put in all the effort unnecessarily.
I'm posting this here in the hopes that Jardinera sees it and tells you what's up. (I don't have her email address, but maybe you do.)
Jar- if you see this, please don't think I am trying to step on your toes! Hope you are enjoying the grandbebeh!
Two hours? Could they Looneyvision be trying to FFWD--> thru this novela, too? Please, Uni, hurry up and get it over with.
Thank you. The work of the recappers is so much appreciated. It really helps keep me going as things seem to go south on this one. I so loved EPDA (I know it's not world-class, but one of my favorites anyway) which got me interested in this one and has me in a perpetual state of disappointment.
I think the two hour thing which seems to be continuing (see Univision website today) is partly about competing with Telemundo which is cleaning up (for Telemundo) at 10 with La Reina del Sur. The Univision site today calls Maite La Reina de la noche.
La Reina is very well produced; Kate fantastic. But many people object to narco theme, even with strong literary origins (I did love the book). Seems like a case where we should agree to disagree. Extreme realism versus novela rosa. Each to their own which leads to my personal conclusion that we don't need two hours a night of TDA!
Leggy LindaHo is not attractive, IMHO. Certainly not a classic beauty in any sense. So tired of aging Oscar and Guillermo and their younger amantes.
Eva and Fausto - my heroes. Cruz, Fabian and Don Napo the other characters that give me hope.
Thank you again. You put a smile on my face this a.m.
Re LindaHo's music: It's actually a bassoon and I rather like the theme for it PERFECTLY conveys who and what LindaHo really is! I've always loved the bassoon and don't mind that it is being used here for it does such a wonderful job!!
I just said this at the end of the comments for Thursday's capitulo, but this is really turning out to be, as La Paloma said, "Triumfo de Butt-Crack".
I was absolutely FED UP by the time this ended; FED UP. Two hours of NOTHING?! Two hours of LindaHO and Pimp Daddy Oz?! So Pimp Daddy is fed up with Victoria (I can grant him that), but his answer is to sleep with this HO ALL THE TIME professing he loves Victoria?!
GET OVER YOURSELF OZ! Your tattoos do nothing for me, either.
Absolutely agree with you, Traveling Lady...LindaHo is not attractive. I almost said this yesterday, but didn't want anyone to think I was a total sour puss given how much I'd like to see JuanJo take a hike.
Initially, I thought, Ok, Dorismar is attractive, but the more of her body she continues to show and the manner in which she shows it, I find her most unattractive. I'm sure the men of the blog will disagree, but it's hard to look at her. Some would say that the disgust she provokes means she is accomplishing her goal as an actriz, but it's going to take a heck of a lot more for me to call this woman an actriz (given what I saw of her performance on Sal y Pimienta).
Am in total agreement with Traveleing Lady...my only heroes right now are Mr. Faustus/Eva and Cruz/Don Napo.
Quite frankly, I don't give a hoot anymore about Victoria and Oz.
As for that other skank, Xi/Ji-mena. Her ratty looking hair and her face that is in a perpetual stupor can also go take a hike. It was so unnecessary for her to call Desinformada "Basura" when they were watching the kayak races. Did you notice that Victoria said NOTHING to stop the language? I think that is where I finally got fed up with Victoria.
Now...I will just sit back and enjoy Victoria suffer through the mess that she herself has created.
As for the initial phone call that Pimp Daddy Oz made to someone, I actually thought he had called Gui, but perhaps, you are right and he called Pedro instead...corathon that he is.
Will comment on part the second when it is up so at not to break the no spoiler rule.
Gracias again, Sara!!
Susanita
HALLO?! Why isn't Blanca Soto getting the credit for this?
Susanita
I really did not need to see so much Lindo and Os time at the beach. I get it. They're having fun and getting it on. The only important part of their time together was at the end when she asked about his first wife. I wonder if they think because Maite is so covered up in her love scenes, they need to show us some hot steamy scenes. I just think that the middle aged directors/producers/writers are trying to live vicariously through our two middle aged characters Os and Gui. They have had way more getting it on scenes than the young guys. And they both have two women.
As for Maria and Max making love in the heart on the sand, I just felt it was a rip off of a recent much better beach/sand/heart love scene (where there was no love making) in Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe. That was a sigh worthy scene, with a beautiful serenade. Super romantic. The writers of M&M's dialogue are just not hitting the mark. Too many te amos, not enough substance. I did enjoy the green eyed monster making an appearance with Max and shaking things up. He was being an idiot, and of course there will be consequences. But it was funny.
Are we going to get two hours a night of TDA for awhile except for on Thrusday when Mujeres Asesinas is on?
Interesting that Reina is doing well since it started this week? Not into drug reference novelas and after watching El Clon and it's silly drug plot i'm so totally turned off to novelas like that. It seems that Telemundo produces a lot of novelas with that them in them also.
Traveling Lady ita i was concerned they were doing this remake too early for me it seemed like EPDA was on and it was on Telefutura last year and also overnight.
Susanita it took you that long to get fed up with Victoria and her act? She totally lost me altogether when she reamed out Maria D. for slapping Jimena and warning not to do anything with out her permission when they went to Miami. You not the only one waiting for her to be bought down and i am going to enjoy every minute of it too.
Vivi i can see why it wasn't doing so well in Mexico with a lousy boring start like this.I don't know what the heck Mejia was thinking by producing a novela like this by the time it picks up it will probably lose a lot of audience.
Please tell us there will be no extension for this novela.
Somehow, Xi/Ji-mena calling Maria D. 'basura' was worse than calling her something really foul. That Victoria sat there and agreed was the straw that broke the camel's back. If I were Maria D. and I found out that my mother had agreed with someone calling me 'basura', I'd be done with said mother in a flash.
Susanita...who is way too forgiving, except when it comes to JuanJO! LOL!
The fact is Maria D. is her long lost daughter but that's beside the point in her uppity wants it her way of thinking Maria D. isn't good enough for Max so anything and everything is allowable said towards Maria D. and done towards her. Ita Maria D. needs to get far away from Victoria her family life isn't as ideal as think a family life should be.
I still haven't heard from Jar, so I'm going to at least finish recapping the first hour. If I haven't heard from her by tonight I'll do a quick recap of the second tortuous hour.
I don't mind two hour episodes if something is actually happening. Friday I actually got cranky about the two hour length. I just kept thinking "is his ever going to end??"
Travelling Lady- I did notice on Univision.com that several folks were commenting that RdS was soo much better. I don't know if I can take an entire week of two hour episodes.
I checked the online TV Guide and it looks as if TdA is on for two hours Monday through Friday and then returns to its normal schedule the week of the 14th. They are even preempting MA on Thursday.

Sara: Oh no! I didn't think for a minute you didn't like the theme. Just wanted to identify the instrument. I like the little tune..rather like an Idee Fixe, don't you think as it ALWAYS identifies LindaHO!
Susanita
I think what is killing me right now is that there is really nothing happening that moves the plot forward.
If I still haven't heard from Jar by 7ish CST, I'll put up a quick bullet list of the main points of hour two (which sadly is about 4-5 bullets.)
I am stunned that there will be all of these nights that have 2 hour episodes. At the rate they are going, what in the world are they going to show us? More filler of the little and big orphans with Random HO who is probably Maria M Ho's mother?
No, wait...we will get to see LindaHO model ALL of those lovely clothes Pimp Daddy Oz bought for her and we'll get some type of 'artsy' verion of the Butt-Crack closeup. yes...I'm sure that is what we will see.
Susanita...who is also hanging on to the music...I'd love to have Luis Miguel or Pablo sing to me!!
Fony Fer deserves a major smack down for what she has done...and to call that horrible Padilla 'suegro'. PUH-LEEZE!
I was looking at Variopinta's link to Sweet William on "People en Espanol". I went through all of those fotos and came across one with Levy and this Dominika person. I am SURE all of you have already mentioned it, but sometimes, I am slow on these little details.
I saw that Levy and this Dominika are in the remake of "Cuna (spelling?) de Lobos". NO PUEDE SER!
The woman cannot act!
Susanita
I lucked out with the 2 hour deal. I set my recorder & fell asleep, it just kept taping until the tape ran out. I watched last night, thinking will this never end?
Pretty sure la policia on Miami Beach would frown upon sex on the beach.
I noticed that Osvaldo threw his sunglasses on the beach towel before he ran into the water, but there he is complete with sunglasses in the water.
I am just a little jealous of Linda's nalgas.
I must admit Pablo sounds pretty good singing that song to Fernanda.
No way. That is desperate and pitiful on the parat of Looneyvision. She's an average actress and easy on the eyes, but reina-de-a-noche? Gah!
Sara and other recappers, may I suggest the short form of recaps:
Vic lines. Os lines. MariaD lines. Max lines. Chipmunk scenes. etc., etc., etc.
should about cover it.
The online Comcast schedule says 1-hour this week for TdA, which is 61 minutes too much.
Rosemary
to miss some bare lindabutt. Oh well,I got a glimpse Thursday. Hate that I missed Padilla pulling a gun on Cruz. Surely Fer didn't approve of that.
My DirecTV schedule also shows 2hr episodes of TdA next week. It's been pretty accurate, even making last minute changes.
Carlos
Carlos
On another note, I HATE Fer, and she does not deserve el jardinero.
Sadly i think your new name for this novela is the one that should have been given to it from the start. The Triumph of Torture bought to us by the master of such crap Mehjia. Oi vey!:(
Much as I would love to take credit for that, Sara originally called it "Triumph of Butt Cheeks" and Doris liked "Triumfo de Butt Crack." I do endorse the alternate title, however.
Thanks for the brilliant recap, Sara. I don't know which is more appalling--two hour episodes, which will speed up this mess, or one-hour episodes to drag out the torture. I didn't see the earlier EPDA, but just looking at a few bits online, it seems a much better production.
La Paloma
I definitely am tired of seeing LindaHo's bare butt. And how stupidly hypocritical is it to censor bare male butts when LindaHo's is shown?
Censorship of language on this network is also driving me batshit crazy.
Add me to the list of those who call hypocrite on Victoria not addressing Ximena's trashing of Maria. It doesn't matter that Victoria doesn't yet know that Maria D is her daughter; her insistence that Ximena is well-bred and moral shows she's in heavy denial.
Speaking of Maria D, she performed a miracle on that dress which I also bet was an improvement on Pipino's work.
Fer's gleeful expression when Padilla pulled out the gun was disturbing. That would have shocked the hell out of both her parents and Max.
Bernarda will not like the test results. And we all know that Ximena will point to Max as being responsible for her pregnancy.
Maybe there could be a new plot line along the lines of: when X-lady tells Max she's pregnant by him, he says: "no way, let's do a blood test." IF hair DNA testing works for Ms. Bernarda -who seems to be hip to the 21st century, maybe Max could do the same. Then ther might be the beginnings of a plot.
I turned on "the Sur" show and was excited to see a woman actually alive and in control of her life instead of on automatic pilot. "Narco story line is okay with me. It's real compared to this Boring, boring "Im pregnant. I was drunk. I don't remember
storyline
as for the beach conversation of Max and Maria on the beach, i only understood Max saying "God, i love u so much" coz ofc, its in english...i hope he will speak english all throughout..hahhaha...
yh, the conversation uses a lot of te amo's!..it's making it annoying...
WE NEED SOMEONE WHO IS CREATIVE IN WRITIING DIALOGUES!!..PLS TELL MEJA!..HAHHAHA

Most of the comments on Uni hilarious "Maite is the Reina de la Noche" promo spoke very highly of Reina del Sur. Many were disappointed by the two hour episodes because they were watching both programs TdA and RdS. When forced to choose, I bet most will go for RdS. Kate is a great actriz and while I really don't like the narco theme, it is fresh and original when you compare it to TdA.
I FFWD--> thru to see the TdBC,,, and OMG x 10. Surely the director Meh-jia had some control over that, maybe it was his idea, but LindaWho had no tan lines, for sure.
I need to remember to set my DVR for PVAA and RdS, in case I have time to watch, and give them a try.......
Aribeth: TVyNovelas was on Uni last night? How in the world did I miss that?! I am still a tad stunned that the theme song to STuD was not even nominated. I loved that song. Why in the world was it not nominated? Looks like STuD was shut out in every category it was nominated except three. Would that be correct?
UA: I am so glad you brought up Fer's behaviour wrt Padilla putting a gun to Cruz' head. That scene was a bit of a shocker for me. Fony Fer was actually happy it was happening. I don't know how much she had had to drink at that point, but I was amazed.
Cruz...wake up...this selfish, self centered spoiled girl (GIRL) is not for you. You can do MUCH better.
I think Fony Fer is going to meet some huge tragedy as long as she hangs around with her so called 'suegro' and his scum-bucket son. That Oscar could even offer to give Fer support and help shows me that he does not know this girl very well. He is only trying to get into Victoria's good graces.
As for the sickening scene of Xi/Ji-mena seducing Max...what can we say that we haven't already said?! This little trick is old, stupid, and sickening. Now we have to watch this unfold as we already know it is going to unfold.
Maybe this Joaquin will bring some much needed action to this TN.
The whole thing just seems so fractured at this point...why not concentrate on a few good plot lines and DEVELOP them?
Susanita
BTW, most don't skip commercials. They use DVRs and TiVos for convenience.
This will be a rough week with 2-hour episodes of TDA, as I watch all three of TM's current novelas.
I was writing as you posted. I just remembered that Fer would be 16 at most and Cruz would have to be about 30. What are they thinking?
I’m not thrilled with this double episode strategy to keep us from switching to Reina del Sur (which, by the way, is amazing. Check it out on Telemundo’s own website, if you’re curious.)
With all the negative comments on this page, it becomes harder and harder to say that you’re enjoying this novela. Well. Let me say it: I continue to enjoy this novela. I like it. At times I love it. It’s a big, old-fashioned, melodramatic warhorse chockful of tragedy and mawkishness and silliness and clichés with fabulous incidental music and rich visual detail. It’s exactly what I signed on for.
There are a couple of non-actors who are in over their heads, but most of the cast is terrific. In particular, I think Victoria Ruffo is doing a splendid job portraying a largely – but not totally – unsympathetic character.
Of course there is a lot to poke fun at. But boring? Uneventful? Not hardly! (If that’s what I thought, I wouldn’t be watching or writing about this show.)
P.S. Susanita, Thanks for chiming in (sorry!) with your impressive musical knowledge!
NovelaMaven - I'm glad you enjoy the show. Currently I'm trying to juggle too many TNs and this is the least satisfying of them all. It doesn't help that I was a fan of the other version with Helen, Cesar, Rene and Bambi. However, it's clear from your work you enjoy viewing b/c your recaps are excellent!
Susanita - ITA w/you on having no patience with JuanJo. While I can appreciate the concept of an athlete trying to branch out, he needs a bit more training. And the fact that his character says things about Nathi that even the really handsome ones would never say makes me disgusted with this role.
UA - Yes, if we must be tormented with Linda's behind, how dare the censor the men.
Your points are well taken. For myself, given the large amount of establish actors on this TN, I guess I was expecting something 'more'.
Where we agree:
Beautiful clothes
Great scenery (Acapulco). I LOVE it when we get to see so much of the country...a country that I would dearly love to visit. I do appreciate that aspect.
Excellent Music: Not just Luis Miguel's opening theme song, but the incidentals. That LindaHO Idee Fixe was composed with a definite purpose. I can appreciate that and actually love the theme! St. Bernard's theme is also good...both themes clearly describe the character's they represent.
Where it falls short for me is that with so many excellent actors, why not give them time to develop their characters more?
It's just that sometimes, in a TN such as this, it seems too packed with so many good actors, that things seem diluted somehow. Almost as if they are all canceling each other out. Am I making sense?
Relative to Eva Luna, I think this TN is much slower, but your point is well taken..TdA is not EL nor was EL intended to be a TN like TdA.
It's just hard for me to watch some of my favourite actors not have better written parts. The whole relationship between Oz and Vic sometimes seems as if the light switch just goes off and on with emotions from one extreme to the next.
Maybe I just want some more 'in between' and maybe I just have to get it through my thick skull that this is what a "Grande TN" is all about. I need to accept the genre for what it is and not for what I think it should be or should become.
UA: Re age difference between Cruz and Fony Fer...I know!!!
Susanita
I believe the writers for this novela Delia Fiallo and Liliana Abud are both veteran writers and is the best that they can do? Surprising enough i looked it up Delia Fiallo wrote Cristal the original and Liliana work on EPDA,Amarte es Mi Pecado and La Otra. So i beleive the criticism is well deserved coupled with the veteran actors that they have but i guess it's not the actors fault for the most part they only read the lines of what's written.
So now this looks like Meh-jia second straight bomb CS2010 and this one.
Susanita ita the writing does seem fractured and all over the place. As i mentioned it made no sense in the scene Victoria had with Max getting his loving support as a son to go down stairs and tell the woman he doesn't want to be with go after him no matter what it takes. I'm in it for the long haul because there's nothing on the Telemundo schedule that entices me to watch that channel now. I just want TDA to improve hopefully having these 2 hour episodes will get us to the improved part of this novela at least we hope so.

TVyNovelas was on Uni last night? How in the world did I miss that?!
Don't worry, you didn't miss it! :)) It was in Mexico, on Canal de las estrellas. I'm sure Uni will show it in a few weeks.
I am still a tad stunned that the theme song to STuD was not even nominated.
Actually, it was nominated. The awarding process of TVyNovelas has three levels.
1. The magazine nominates 7-8 people/shows in each category.
2. The readers/fans vote on internet. It depends on the number of votes which telenovela will be in the final four.
3. The jury (producers, journalists, writers, critics) decides.
The song of STD was nominated but the other 4 songs got more votes.
WL did well in Sortilegio because they had good writers.
Mejia's next ruination is Cuna de lobos, I didn't see the original but I heard it was good. I think pobre WL in in that one too.
I do enjoy Bernarda, Fausto & Eva.
Love the full face of Bernanrda in the intros, she does look evil.
I'm disappointed in Guillermo García Cantú, he was so good in FELS
Are Llena de amor y Eva luna about to end?
Blusam: ITA re your observation about the Max/Victoria scene. It didn't make Victoria believable as a character. I WANT to believe in the protagonista!
This is going to be an interesting week no matter what. I am really curious as what tonight will bring.
Susanita
WL did well in Sortilegio because they had good writers.
I think it was the director, Mónica Miguel. She's the one who directed Amor real, Alborada and Pasión, too. She made a wonderful job with Colunga, who was unbelieveabyly wooden before, and recently she transformed Sebastián Rullí, one of the protagonists of Teresa into a great actor.
Mejía doesn't hire good directors, therefore the actors have to work on their own. This is when it turns out who's very talented/experienced and who's not. I respect those actors much who manage to act decently in a Mejía telenovela. One of the reasons why I adore the cast of Corazón salvaje.
Susanita:
You're welcome! :))
Was my man Colunga there to receive his award? Was he as guapo as ever?
No, he wasn't there, he's taking acting classes in the United States. He sent a video message.
How fantastic that my man Colunga is taking acting lessons! I have often wondered if the TN actors continue to take lessons, etc.
Gracias, Aribeth!!!
Susanita
Aribeth it does seem like the some of the actors are working on their own in some of their scene. That scene on the beach between Max and Maria looked exactly what you're describing.
Susanita
It looks like the only three people who have Fer's number are Micaela, Pipino and Cruz (interestingly, all three are servants/employees).
If they told Victoria or Oz the truth about Fer neither parent would believe it, and in the cases of Cruz and Micaela, they could very well lose their jobs. And Fer knows it.
Fer's doing this stuff to get her parents' attention. Oz is off with Linda's buttcrack on the beach, Max is off with Maria D or Fabian and Victoria's always off at the style house. Victoria has actually shown more fire and brimstone with Burnie for her antics with Maria Magdaho than she's shown with Rudy & Scuzzy over Fer.
It seems the only time Fer's parents pay attention to her is when she does something wrong. When she draws a picture or just wants to spend time with them, they brush her off.
Anon, if you're looking for some well enunciated Spanish coupled with reliable captions and if you get Telefutura, take a look at India. It has the added pluses of spectacular locations, beautiful fresh (for us anyway) faces and interesting (if cliched) plots.
The drawback is that the dialogue is dubbed, but I'm sure that's why it is so easy to listen to and understand.
I would've loved to see Srgio Goyri win, but it's good to know that Juan Carlos Barreto was deserving.
I really am disappointed in Fer for not being outraged that Padilla would draw a gun on HER jardinero by HER pool. Sounds like Cruz wasn't all that intimidated.
Carlos
Sara, thanks so much. I love your recaps.
Also, there was a huge continuity error in the flashback of Victoria playing with baby Max. Max is 25 years old (he said so a few episodes ago).
Carlos: Yes, dear...you missed LindaHO in all her glory! LOL! Agree. Cruz was not in the least be worried Suegro Padilla and his gun. That Cruz/Pablo...such a galan!! And what are you going to do now that India is it its 'ultimas semanas'?
Susanita
Carlos
Glad to hear about your Yvonne! I know that TN life has been 'hard' since losing Ivana. :)))
Susanita
"Carlos- PVaA starts on Uni tomorrow night at midnight. The last night of La Verdad Oculta is tonight and PVaA replaces it. Yes, Televisa's best novela of the year is being put on the graveyard shift. My dvr is cued up."
I'll be there.
Yvonne is quite a bit more sophisticated than Ivanna... movin' on up.
Carlos
UrbanA- I have stopped trying to reconcile the ages. The Maria/Max age difference actually makes sense. But Fer's age does not. She shouldn't be more than 15.
As for the novela as a whole. I can always find some pleasure in even the worst novela. Beautiful people/fun clothes/great locations/new vocab, etc. I don't mind the cliches- otherwise what am I watching a tn for? I appreciate originality when it comes along (LVO is an example), but I'm not expecting it. The problem here is that they aren't even doing the stereotypes well. Give me some romance with my romance. Make me feel the pain of the llorona. Make me hate the villainess, not be bored by her. Keep the pace going. Don't give me more filler than the main storyline. Give me some juicy dialogue. TdA has the all the ingredients for a juicy novela all laid out. The cooks (director, producer, writers, editors) just aren't using the right proportions.
But I'm not giving up on it since there is always some fun to be had, and the recappers and commentors are great! Also, Jarocha in Mexico has told us that it does get better.
Carlos: re Ivaca...you are so funny!
Susanita
I wonder if my telenovio is trying to perfect his English. Any idea where these acting classes are? If it's Miami I might become a stalker. Probably LA though.
Usually i don't comment but i have to say after reading the care and feed the recapper section. I can understand why some people don't feel like commenting when you have people trying to lecture others on what they should write. Kind defeats the purpose of asking people to join in the conversation.
I am relatively new to the TN. NovelaMaven's comments are appreciated by me even if we might differ as she allows me to see an aspect of the TN through her eyes and provides me with another view.
You're right. I have criticised this TN, but I can't criticise if I don't watch it...and I watch it regularly!
Aribeth gave us some insight into the 'ways of Mehjia' which helps to explain a lot of things.
In any event, not that NovelaMaven needs defending, but wanted to reiterate that I do appreciate her POV.
Gracias!
Susanita
I've been keeping up with this via my phone all day (everything is blocked at work.)
I'll adress NovelaMaven's comment. I admit, I have been a bit negative of late, but just this morning I thought to myself that I really should list all the things I like about this novela. Obviously, there are enough things because 1)I offered to replace a recapper 2)I'm still here and 3)I really do look forward to it every evening during the week.
Things I like
1. Luis Miguel's theme
2. M&M's song (A partir de hoy) LOVE.IT.
3. Fer and Cruz's theme (which really needs to be at the top of my list.)
4. All the incidental music. Especially the LindaHo Theme.
5. Milagros. I love Carmen Salinas...even if I have trouble understanding her.
6. All the recaps
7. Victoria Ruffo (not her character.) I especially love how flattering her costuming is.
8. Livia Brito (not her character.) She is drop-dead gorgeous to me.
9. Maite Perroni's hair.
10. Toni
11. Pipino
12. Fabian
13. The snark factor. I hope it makes sense when I say that sometimes it's so bad...it's good.
14. The possibilities (Fab and Nati; Fer and Cruz; Toni and Oscar; Fasuto/Eva/Burnie to name a few)
What bothers me is the fact that the writers have thrown so many possibilities at us and haven't gone anywhere with them.
I will stay with this one, though. Right now might be a rough patch, but the characters have captured my attention enough that I really want to find out what happens to them. I just wish I could root for them more. I can't remember who said it, but it was mentioned a while back that most of them are flawed in some way. I'm just adjusting to that. Val and JM didn't seem as flawed as Vic and Os.
I also admit that there is no real Ivana-like character that I just really love to hate. And that bothers me. Burnie is more on the scary side. Not that manipulative hate-ful Ivana villianess type. I guess LindaHO was supposed to be that, but I find her more annoying. Ji/Xi is getting there, but the actress just has that glazed over look.
I've got the DVR ready for PVaA. I'm going to see if I can manage to watch it and TdA.
Buuut I feel that we can love & criticize at the same time. I've also noticed that those that criticize the bloggers are always ANONYMOUS.
Are there any plans for recapping PVaA? I found a good site that introduces the main characters, but it's in Spanish:
http://www.americatv.com.pe/portal/programas/entretenimiento/telenovela/para-volver-amar/personajes
Looks really good. Less fairy tale romance and more real life themes.
Sara - I like your list! But the other night, DH said that Milagros sounded like Speedy Gonzalez. He has no interest in learning spanish, but he's picking it up all the same.
My favorite couple is Cruz & Ferbeast!
I'm very glad that they changed Maria Desamparada's hair. Those two braids down the part, just didn't work.
I was able to watch several TdA episodes online, on dailymotion.com The trouble is there is no closed captioning, but I missed the first few weeks so this helped me catch up.
If I can figure out what they mean by url, I'd be happy to use another name for identity.
I hate Ji/Xi! And Vic is dead to me.
We had almost every TN rule covered tonight.
Finally some plot movement i just don't get why Maria accepted Victoria's abuse like that. No way would i have stood there and let that smug SB act that way with me. Who in the heck does she think she is telling her she can't go anywhere without her permission. Then telling her if she doesn't do what she wants she'll leave her in Miami go and tell Max. Really at this point i'm looking forward to what Burnie has in store for her.
It was some 2 hours, wasn't it?!
As for the guy playing the bugle (I didn't look closely to see if it was a trumpet or a cornet, but (I think it was a bugle)I was wondering what Que the h....was he playing?! It wasn't anything really identifiable. I was doing some paperwork during this part and was paying close attention.
Susanita
I meant to say that I was not paying attention to the guy playing the bugle at the funeral.
Blusam: So agree...FINALLY...some plot movement! ITA...Victoria had absolutely no right to speak to Maria E. that way. Maria E was probably too stunned to tell Victoria to go jump.
Susanita
What was with the empty chair at the news desk and the papers lying around it? During the commercial break?
What is up with making the priest's caretaker speak really fast? Is that common for TN's?
