Teresa Wed 4/20/11 #21-22 Teresa gets some puppets... like she needs any more

And I'll begin with the new stuff:
“And this?” “Look! My new compu!” Mariano’s pissed that she took another gift from el licenciado guapo. “Is it another gift from the professor? Yes or no? Answer me! Yes or no?!” No, she says, but clarifies that it is not a gift (not that it wasn’t from him.) She says it is “una herramienta mas de trabajo.” Another tool for work. I suppose she’ll use that excuse until it runs on, on anything she can make it work for. Mariano is not pleased. “Pero, eso es un equipo muy caro Teresa! Quien te lo dio?” (But this is a very expensive piece of equipment, Teresa! Who gave it to you?) Teresa evades the question, then switched tactics. Yes, it’s important but it’s good for both of them. If it is hers, he will have one, too. She makes sure to add in, “Mi amor, yo siempre pienso en ti. Quiero que tengas mi compu.” She wants to give him her old computer. Teresa wraps an arm around her mama Refu, and reiterates the point that she wants Mariano to have her old one, it would help him with his studies. Both Refu and Mariano look unhappy.

At the club, but the pool. Maira: “I don’t even want to think what my life would be like without Ruben!” Well RuBigote-less. And that’s a pretty good start. She starts to pontificate about him with another woman but stops herself. “No, he’s. my. husband. What’s more, could you imagine the scandal? What everyone would think of me?” Genoveva, who she’s talking to, says “This is why I told you not to go searching (for another woman.) Above all, if you’re happy with Ruben, then treat him as he treats you.” (I believe. I think she said: sobre todo, que tu eres feliz con ruben, a le como te trata.) Maira agrees, but then goes to say how he is never around when she goes looking for him or calls. Gen says he’s a busy guy! I can only imagine how much trimming and care his bigote takes. Genoveva has busy days, too! “No, this is different,” Maira says. “And if I can’t be sure, then I can’t be okay with him. Presiento que otra. (I sense another.) I have to do something.” Gen: “Yes, of course. But first, calm down.” Maira needs to know where he is all the time. Yes, Maira wants to follow him every second. And if he is puttin’ the horns on her, whoosh! She wants to meet her rival! Watch out Espe. She’s lookin kinda crazy. Meanwhile, Gen looks like she is wondering if it’s too early for a gin and tonic. Maybe a Bloody Mary.

Speaking of Espe. She’s in her uniform in Pab’s hospital room—we know this because there is an extremely loud rhythmic beeping over the dialogue—and Pab’s freakin out. He wants out of the hospital. Espe tries to comfort him. He’s afraid of the side affects of chemo. She reiterates that they’ve talked about it, and it’s only for un tiemp-it-it-ito. You’re so brave and you’ll get through this and more. He says he is scared and he wants Mariano to be there when he gets his chemo. (I hear that and think, Mariano’s never gonna make it to class.) Espe’s not sure if he can but mom will be there. He won’t be alone.

Vecindad. Teresa and Mariano are sitting with a grey and a black laptop in front of them. She thanks him for the flash drive, she’ll use it a lot. She kisses him on the cheek but he’s looking like a sad sack. “And what’s wrong, mi amor? You don’t like my surprise? Or you would prefer a new one?” He thinks she could easily work on that one. Even el Licenciado said that, she says. She goes on to trash the computer she just gave him as a gift—but then says she loves that computer and wants him to have it and take care of it and use it as he works toward his career. “But it’s not necessary,” he says. He can do just fine without one. But she hangs on him, drags out her vowels, and says porfa and kisses him. (She throws in there that she doesn’t want her boyfriend to be without a computer.) He says gracias and that he likes that she thinks of him and his future. She clarifies, nuestro futuro. Because when he is an big doctor, she’s gonna be at his side. They may have to do things they don’t like, but they’ll be able to look back at all these things they got over to salir adelante (succeed.) They talk about him being a very important doctor, she’s gonna give him the strength to tackle whatever comes at him. Smiles.

Refu and Juana la Madrina are talking. About Teresa. And her gifts. Namely the cell and compu. (That word’s gonna stick with me.) Juana repeats the Teresa party line: they’re for work. Ref says, but they’re so expensive! She doesn’t like Teresa having things that her family can’t give her. She doesn’t understand this man! “Oh please,” Juana says, “you’re doubting this guy, again??” Refu sits on that, then says. “Okay, the computer’s for work. But the other night, Teresa came home with another blouse! She said that hers was ripped. “And you don’t think it broke? Where did it go? I want to show you a sign that Tere isn’t lying. Oh there it is!” Refu is actually leaning on the blouse and sees that it is in fact ripped. “Ay, bueno. Menos mal que es cierto.” Except, she looks like she is upset that it was actually true. Juana basically tells her to trust Teresa. She knows the values that you taught her.

Mariano is in his place with his study buddies Dario and Magda. Dario says how excellent it is that he has the laptop. He says it was a gift from his novia. La blonde Magda is trying to find/resend the photos from the morgue and is typing like a madwoman on his new compu. Mariano offers some drinks, water or coffee. Dario says he wants a refresco, Mariano says he doesn’t have soda. So instead of just having water, he goes out to buy one. So, Mariano is fetching Magda’s water when Teresa walks in the front door. Jaws spots her, and rather than biting her head off immediately, she asks who she is. Magda, you? TERESA CHAVEZ, MARIANO’S GIRLFRIEND.  Magda gives her the up-down stink-face.

Luisa and Arturo in his office. She is talking about Tere and the trouble that Rubigote-spawn is giving her. Art agrees and calls Aida spoiled. Luisa continues: It’s really sad to think that just cause she has the dough, she has a life of luck. Chicks like Tere get the shaft. That why Luisa is so happy that he’s helping Tere (cute little smile from el profe) and she wants to help Tere, too.  She hands Arturo a photo of her new car. He says it’s a good car. He’ll help her. Just trade in your car and he will pay the difference. “Pero… er… Arturo, estaba pensando y te juro me dan ganas regalar a mi coche de Teresa.” So wait, let me take a second and figure this out. She has a profe paying her way through the extra special university. She has an old bf giving her a new computer. She has a madrina who makes her completely unique and perfectly fitted clothes to wear. Her friend Aurura gave her a sweet house to house-sit. Her bf Mariano gave her jewelry, a flash-drive, and probably more I just can’t think of right now. And now, Luisa, who has already given her some clothes, wants to give her a car?!?! Esa hembra may be mala, but she knows how to work it. Arturo’s a little impactada, but thinking about it.

“Here’s your water” says Mariano. He says hi to Teresa, introduces her and Magda, again with the stink-I could care less-face. Teresa says she will go but Mariano asks her to stay. She offers to make him a sandwich while she waits. Mariano and Magda go back to their work. Mariano seems to be telling her that the cadaver had something wrong with his heart, and she says they were convinced he had asphyxiated—but I can’t hear very well because Teresa is murdering some tomatoes in the background. Dario comes back with his soda and Teresa is MUCH happier to see that there is someone else with them—namely a man. She’ll make an extra sandwich.

Back to Art y his hermana. He says no. There are other things more important for her. Luisa wants to share her wealth, she feels guilty having all she has, meanwhile people like Teresa—no, her el profe chimes in. You shouldn’t feel guilty for having money. Yes, she says, I should enjoy it, share it, and help others which is why I wanted to give my car to Teresa. Giving Teresa a car would cause more problems, says our oh-so-knowledgeable profe. Plus, car has its own expenses, namely gas, insurance, etc. Plus, it’s better to help people by giving them the ability to buy things like that for themselves. Luisa agrees. Too bad for Teresa, I bet she could have used the “it’s for work!” excuse on that one, too.

Ay, Maira and Gen again. They agree that Gen will follow Rubigote for Maira. Yeah. Sure she will.

Teresa is asking about Magda. Her parents live elsewhere, so Tere is asking if she lives alone. Mariano says no, she rents a room in a pension. Tere says “ella me cae muy bien” (she really liked her) and suggests they go out together the four of them. It’s time to say goodnight and Teresa makes a frowny-face. No me pongas esa cara! (Don’t give me the pouty-face!) says Mariano. Roughly translated. He kisses her and they go their separate ways. Before Tere gets very far she hears giggles and notices Cutberto and Juana talking. She spies.Cutberto goes in for the beso and Juana goes for it. Teresa is impactada! Madrina! Tere wants to know why she was kissing that filthy gossip. (pelador asqueroso. Gracias S for that clarification!) Teresa basically gets all up in Juana’s buiseness, calling Cutb a drunk good-for-nothing and saying Juana deserves to be with people with DINERO. The worse thing is that his drinking will suck all of Juana’s money away, which Tere says isn’t fair. By the end of the conversation, Juana is saying she hadn’t thought of all that and looking like she agrees with Teresa.

Aida and Yvonne walking around school. Aida says isn’t it interesting that Teresa has a new laptop the day after she made fun of her for her old one? Aida believes she knows who it came from…

Gen and Rubigote are talking in his office. Gen says she will keep her trap shut (Hah. Not likely.) She tries to find out about Espe and if he has an apartment with Espe. He denies. Then you’re free to be with me! She goes in for a kiss.

Cut to outside with his secretary. Mariano and his papa walk up. Mariano says this guy will be taking over the messenger service. He’s a great, trustworthy guy. I should know. He’s my papa! Secretary smiles.

Ruben says no to Gen. He wants a relationship without commitments. With her he couldn’t risk the truth coming out, he’d lose his marriage and he doesn’t want that. She promises that wouldn’t happen. He says think of the kids! If they found out, that’d be the end of their relationship. The second he brings up the kids, she backs off. She laughs, kisses his cheek, and just before she leaves says Ruben. "Nadie me quita de la cabeza que andas con alguien" "nobody will get it out of my head that you are with someone (ie sneaking around/cheating)." Corrected by S!
Class before Profe gets there. Teresa walks in and we see Ai-dumb has written something on the board.
“How brilliant is our Teresa,
Always getting what she wants
She brings a new computer!!
Did she get help from someone?
Why does she always know the answers to what is asked by
Profe Arturo de la Barerra?”
Big howling response from the class. Hah, Teresa will be the one laughing.

Secretary tells Rubigote that Mariano brought a new messenger. He cuts her off. Anythign else? Nopis.

Teresa asks Aida why she couldn’t just ask her directly. Paulo walks in just as Tere says, do you really wanna know who bought it for me? She’s just dying to tell Aida where the computer came from. Ay, duh, Aida. If you only knew it was from your very own boyfriend. Raul cuts Teresa off before she can spill. He tries the who cares approach. Aida says, no, please, go ahead. Teresa is about to when Paulo stands between them and looks at Tere like, pleeeeease don’t say anything! Just then Hot Prof walks in. He sees the board and decides it’s a learning opportunity. They make a mock court room. Teresa the accused. Aida the accuser. Teresa will defend herself. Prof can’t be the judge cause he’s accused, too. So they decide that will be Raul.

Juana is sewing. Cutberto is singing. She totally shuts him down.

Back in the mock trial class. The trial is whether Teresa and the profe have an intimate relationship and they are trading assets for.. erm, ass-ets. Where is the proof? Teresa says the “supuestas pruebas” (alleged evidence) are/is that she as a new laptop and she knows all the answers in class. Aida rolls her eyes. She begins with a nice opening: “En este plantea mente tan torpe e insostenible…” In this awkward and untenable mind… this person thinks that this is proof of intimate relations. [Addition/correction from S:
"En este planteamiento tan torpe e insostenible, se delata la autora aunque pretenda mantenerse anónima."
In this very inelegant/stupid and baseless/ unsustainable scenario/approach/exposition, the perpetrator/author (depending on which meaning of author Teresa was going for) gives herself away, although she attempts to remain anonymous.] Teresa says more lawyer-speak about the law and how the truth factors into all of this. “The accuser doubts my intellectual capacity. When the only way that I was able to go to school with you all, because I don’ have money, was based solely on my intellectual capacity.” Laughter in the classroom. The profe is grinning.

Cutberto: What happened Juanita? Why did you change your mind so quickly? I didn’t do anything bad. And we we’re getting on quite well. Juana: Yes. I made a mistake. Please keep your distance from me.

Med School: Aw, Mariano in a white coat. Presenting to the class. The prof stops and asks his name. She is pissed that he wasn’t at the morgue. Why is he presenting on a case that he didn’t see. No one does that in her class. Aw. Mariano is sad. How come Tere gets the hot prof and he gets a meanie?!

Tere in mock court: The accuser doesn’t even have one tiny shed of proof that the compu came from the profe. Even less proof that she has an intimate relationship with him! I ask you this: If I give you proof that it was someone else who bought me this computer (Paulo looks like he’s hanging on for dear life) would you change your accusation and stop bothering me?” Tere picks up Aida’s notebook and holds it up to the board. She has the same handwriting. Laughs from the class, Aida is embarrassed, Prof is proud, Tere is delighted.

Back to Mariano’s Mala Med Maestro: She’s still harping on him. His teammates stick up for him, saying he saw photos and he even convinced them they had the wrong diagnosis. She says that all docs could just look at pics and vacation in Cancun. Doesn’t change that he wasn’t in the practicum. Then tried to tell the students not to step in and save another student who is not meeting his responsibilities in class. Mariano is upset and she gives him a dirty look! Mean!

Profe Art: See ya’ll tomorrow! My class is for studying, and we won’t have any more of what happened today for the rest of the class. Aida and Teresa get into a shouting match about what went down, A: “Te sientes mucho, verdad?” T: “Haha. Yo soy.” Aida has to be held back while Teresa smiles. She leaves, sees the prof on his way out, just misses him and goes back inside.

Mar, Mar y Dar on their way out of class. Magda: It’s not fair! Mar: It’s my fault for missing the practicum. Dar: But you did work! We have to find a way to convince her. Mar feels bad that this is affecting them, too. They say not to worry. They will find a way to succeed.

Teresa sees Luisa from behind and begins the preparations for fake tears. Luisa asks what happened. Tere says she needs a favor. Sure, says Lu, but what happened? She cries, then says she won’t be working with her brother anymore, nor see him. She needs Lu to tell him for her.

Teresa tells Lu everything that happened. That Aida was the one who accused her. Lu tells her they will work everything out. Tere knows. She just wants to die from shame.  And, Lu asks, what did my bro say? He gave me the chance to prove my innocence, but still! Don’t cry, says Lu. Relax. Don’t worry. Tere says that it was Aurora that gave her the computer. Basically Lu says they will stick by her side and work it out. Tere says that if she keeps working for him, everyone will think that they are intimate and she will not let this hurt Arturo.

Paulo and Raul are talking about Tere and Aida. They get onto the subject of Tere and el profe. Paulo knows that Tere is not into anything with him. How do you know? Raul asks. I just know her, Paulo says. But he’s really rich, Raul says. ("tiene mucha lana" literally, he has a lot of wool.) Paulo knows, but he is sure she isn’t messing around with him. Then, Raul asks, who gave her the computadora? Paulo doesn’t know. Raul sees Aida and says, are you suuure? It wasn’t you? Paulo calls him loco. You think I would give her a computer after everything she did to me? He’s with Aida. She hears and runs to him all happy.

Profe is pensive and looking out the window. Luisa comes home. “Can we talk?” she asks. “Sure, what’s up?” “Teresa’s not coming.” He leaves the window. OMG, was he watching, waiting for her to come?! Luisa explains they talked at school and she won’t be working for him anymore [because of what happened.] Cara impactada de el profe guapo.

Teresa is opening a package of gifts from Aurora from Paris. She is barely listening to what Refu is saying. Hah, Aurora got Tere puppets (marionettes). How fitting. Mariano arrives. He is sad but Tere doesn’t notice, she tries to show off her gifts. Refu is the one who asks if he is okay. He says he is fine. Problem at school, but don’t worry. Teresa doesn’t seem to have noticed the conversation. She wants to show him more things from Paris.

Mariano is off to the hospital and Tere is going with him. Mom asks if she has to work. She says not today, he has a prior engagement with Paloma, his novia.

Prof and Luisa. L: What happens if the joke gets to the director? A: What would happen? Plus, he would make it clear. To the whole room it was clear that he wasn’t hanging that way with Tere. L: Good. You know who gave her the computer? Her friend, Aurora. A: I thought she was in Paris. L: Yeah but when she told her she didn’t have one, she made sure that Tere got hers. Something has to be done. It’s not fair. Their talk is interrupted by the arrival of Ruben. Luisa leaves. Oh, looks like Art called Rube to talk to him about the ish Aida pulled in class today.

Espe is at home and looks really worried. She drops a dish. She says she is worried about  Pablito. Big brother runs to his room and pulls out a wrestlers mask and says to give it to Pab. It’s the mask of the bravest wrestler in México and it will make him brave, too.

Ruben is apologizing for Aida. He wants Teresa to feel comfortable. Yes, of course, Profe says, but what Aida did could have very bad consequences. And you think this could affect you? A: Probably. And if so, I am not going to defend her.

Aida with Yvonne. Aida is about to go out with Pau and Raul but her papa calls her and asks if she’s in the house. She says yes and he tells her not to move. He’s coming home. Ruben promises that he will set Aida straight and leaves. Art calls Teresa. He gets a message saying her phone is off or out of service. He is going to go look for her—uh oh. At her house?

Pablito and his mama at the hospital. The doc comes in and says he needs her to sign some things. She leaves. Then, woah. Paloma comes in. Que the hell? She looks all official. Oh yea, didn’t she say she was going to start a charity or something?

El Profe is at the vecindad and Juana sees him. She introduces herself and he asks if Tere is home. Nope, at the hospital, she says. Double uh oh. He asks which hospital. She tells him which and he is on his way.

Johnny can’t forget Rosita. Espe says she knows how he feels. How do you know? he asks. She knows how he feels because he is her brother. (Really?) He will remember Rosita always and she will be with him always. He gets up to go to work (Chamba –slang.) Espe is looking for a present that she misplaced, which is why she is so stressed. She remembers where it is. The way she reacts, I would guess it is at the apartment that Ruben has.

Raul and Yvonne are dancing and Aida and Paulo are laughing and watching. Rube busts in and asks if they are all in the same class. They are. Then they will all listen to him.

Paloma is reading a story to Pablito. He enjoyed it. He asks if she has a kid. No, she says. Too bad, he says, she would make a great mama. Nope, she doesn’t have a boyfriend either. Why not, little Pab asks, you’re really pretty. Then she decides to tell some strangers kid the history of her almost marrying the prof—without getting into specifics. Teresa and Mariano are making their way through the hospital, Pablito asks her to read him another story. Mariano thanks Tere for coming with her. She puts her hand on the hospital door and pushes it open just a bit.

Part 2:

Lucky for Tere, before she can open the door Mariano sees the mean doc prof and runs to talk to her. Hah I think her name is Dr. Limon. She is sour! Though I’m almost positive she’s going to be fair with him by the end of this telenovela, possibly this episode. He’s trying to get another chance, she ian’t having it. But Dr. Ledesma comes up and mentions Pablito and his chemo and she looks a little thoughtful. Mariano would never say he missed it because he was helping a kid with cancer, but that’s probably why he missed class! Dr. Ledesma needs Mariano to calm down Pablito’s mother for him.

Paloma wishes Pablito good luck with his chemo and kisses his little head. Tere walks in. Face off!

Rubigote is lecturing the kiddies on what happened with Lic. Short version: Idiots. By going after Tere you went after Lic. One of the most influential people in this TN, er I mean, of all the lawyers in the country! It could not just affect you little twerps, but us, your parents as well! He talks to Aida alone. Rube is SO pissed because he needs Arturo on his side when he goes for the president of the colleague of notaries, he’s not gonna miss out on it for a stupid action of Aidumb! “Estas advertida!” You’ve been warned. She’s fuming. “Todo por la maldita Teresa!” is her response, once her dad leaves.

Teresa: What are you doing here? Paloma: I’m working! What are YOU doing here? T: You work in the hospital? P: Yes, I just started a little while ago. I volunteer. Is Pabllilto your family? Tere closes the door. T: Yes. And I don’t want you comin' round her no more! What a coincidence (Que casualidad!) that you started just when he came. Paloma swears she didn’t know and that he is just part of her rotation! But not to worry, she won’t come back here. Teresa begins to threaten her but she swears she had no idea and skedaddles, just as Pablito’s actual family shows up. Well, his mom and Mariano. Mom (what is that lady’s name???) asks who the woman was that just here? Tere says she is a volunteer who reads to patients and she was reading to him (in a very happy voice.) Mar says this is good.

Paloma, still in the building, runs into Arturo.

Tere talks to Ledesma about Pab’s chemo and Mariano’s help while he is there.

Profe asks if Paloma has a family member in the hospital. She says no. Then? I work here. I’m volunteering. Work for her future foundation. He is glad to hear that, glad she is doing that. He says he can help her if there are any problems. Thanks, but it’s all good, she says. She should go. She was glad to see him/say hi to him. (Me gusta saludarte.)

Espe calls Ruben and tells him she left a gift for her mother in the apartment. He says, great I’ll meet you there. She says nope. Gonna get my thing and go.

Tere opens the door and our hot prof is standing there. -Prof, what are you doing here? -I was told I could find you here. How’s your neighbor? –Better. But I don’t understand why you’re here. –I hope it’s not imprudent, but Luisa told me what’s up. We need to talk. –I know I should have told you face to face, but after what happened at school—you don’t know how hard it was for me not to cry in front of the class. –I’m sorry I thought it was the best way to handle the situation. –I’m more worried about you being accused of something so serious! She turns to (fake) cry, he almost puts a hand on her shoulder but takes it back. –Listen, I took care of it. Don’t worry. About me or you. –You should have seen the way they all looked at me, like the really believe there was something between you and me. –Eh, the most important thing is that you don’t let rumors affect your life. And that you don’t leave your job and the “confianza” between us, all because Aida said something on a whim. (Tere’s eyes are shooting back and forth cause Mariano must be close and coming back soon.) He says they’ll believe it is true if she gives it all up. She slyly checks out the door. –Yes, Lic, you’re right. Thanks to your words, I wont give up work and school. –Good. I’ll see you tomorrow in class and later in my office (despacho) like always. –Okay. See you tomorrow, like always. He almost leaves but she stops him to tell him she saw Paloma working in the hospital. He knows he saw her earlier. She still thinks I’m your mujer and carrying your baby. Why is that?

Gen sees Rubigote run into the apartment building. She knew he wouldn’t let go of this place. She wants to see who he is with.

Prof: Paloma will continue to think what she wants. T: It doesn’t bother you that she still believes the lie I told her? P: No. She’s not part of my life and neither is what she thinks. But if it’s important for you… T: No, no, no professor! It’s nothing. I said it for you, and so you wouldn’t suffer for this woman anymore.

Nighttime: Dr, Pab’s mama, and Mariano are talking about the effects of Pab’s chemo. They go to find Teresa.

Cutberto looks longingly at Madrina Juana’s window then runs into Armando. He’s in a pinch and needs money. He says he doesn’t have money, and hollering about Juana and leaves Armando looking worried.

Dr. Limon talks to Dr. Ledesma about Mariano. She wants to know his opinion. He raves about Mariano, she tells him the situation about the school project. He asks to see his works, which she admits she didn’t look at.

Espe and Ruben talking about how much they love each other. She is saying she loves him and kissing him and putting his tie back on and talking about marriage… grr argh.

Back to Mariano’s work and the two docs when Mariano enters. Woo! It is before the end of this ep that she makes an exception for him. Only because he was with Ledesma when he missed it. Smiles all around.

Back to Gen watching Rube. Oh it’s not Teresa! Who is it? She wonders and snaps a camera phone a few times, triumphant.

Teresa wants to celebrate the good news about his med teacher. (Aren’t those people so annoying? The ones who want nothing to do with you when you’re struggling but are the first to celebrate with you when it works out? Maybe that’s just me.) How will we celebrate? He suggests Cuernavaca. Saturday? Done. Kisses. I missed the end part of this conversation. Something about him giving her some gift in Cuernavaca? I could guess but I figured I’d ask. OH, duh. He goes into his room and pulls out the ring. That must be what they were talking about. She was saying she didn’t know if he wanted her to have it, but he said he did and would give it to her then.

Loan shark confronts Armando at his shop about the money, Johnny overhears. She gives him two days. Arm swears Johnny to secrecy.

Teresa puts on a dress from Paris that Aurora sent her and her padre walks in. She’ll dress like this all the time one day, she looks beautiful, the usual. She cant wait to see how Aida reacts when she sees her in that dress.

Mariano asks Johnny what’s up, what’s wrong. Johnny says he knows someone is in trouble with money, Mariano says then we have to help them! He spills it is Armando.

Aida saying she hates Teresa more every day. Teresa walks up and says “hola las dos!” and saying no hard feelings about yesterday. Aida asks about her outfit. She thinks it is fake or something. Tere’s all you don’t recognize un Jean Bonsoir original? (That might not be the right name! It sounded like she said Sean… dunno!) It’s the latest fashion in Paris. So now you’re gonna tell everyone Profe gave it to me, right?? Aida says no, then spills her coffee on her dress, on purpose. Oh, I would slap that perra! She doesn’t though. Aida spouts it was an accident, hah, and everyone will know she is a hypocrite, walking away.

Mariano shows up at the loan sharks store and begs for more time. She has bills to pay. Nope. So he shows her the ring and sees if he can pay with that. She nods.

Tere is telling Espe about Aida and changing clothes. Espe notices her name is Aida and thinks about that…She changes the topic to Mariano and Tere says they will be going to Cuernavaca again. He’s gonna give me something very special. An ring! And you, she asks, you’re not back with the married guy, right? She lies.

Back to Mariano and the evil shop owner. She will take the ring as collateral. If he’s not paid in a week, then the ring and everything in his house will be hers.

Gen shows up at Rube’s office. He doesn’t want any problems while he is going for the position of prez of the notarios. Not to worry, she’s his amiga! She shows him the photos. She is Esperanza, right? He tries to get the phone and she won’t give. He asks if she would show his wife, she says she only took them out of curiosity. (Sure.) And notes it is the apartment he bought for their affair. She tells him not to worry about the photos, they are safe with her, just like he is. I believe she then tries to black mail him.

Johnny approaches Armando and offers him money. He says Rosita is worried about Armando. He says Johnny needs to get on with his life.

Mariano tells Teresa they have to postpone Cuernavaca. Tere wants to know why. He says he needs to do extra credit for Dra. Limon. Tere isn’t happy. He explains more and she says okay. They plan to go out to eat tomorrow bc Profe has somewhere else to be.

Aida swears to papa that spilling the coffee was an accident. She says fine. I only did it bc Tere said she would go after you. He looks like he trying to hide his satisfaction at that. She say if he ever cheats on her mama—he stops her and says don’t be ridiculous. And don’t repeat this to mama she is way too jealous already.

Tere asks how the dumping of Cutb went excitedly. She explains, and Tere tells her not to be sad. Juana says he filled part of her life that was empty, hollow (vacía.) Tere says no way, you’re not empty in any way. She will marry someone waaaay better!

Mariano tells Armando he talked to Gemma. Armando explains he borrowed it to get Tere whats he needed for school, he didn’t want her taking any more from the profe. Mar agrees and says he will work all Saturday and give the money to Arm.

Tere shows up at Rube’s office. He wants to know if she just said she would be in a relationship with him just to get Aida mad or if she would really do it. She says Aida says all kinds of thing about Tere, like the supposed affair with the profe. Do you believe her? No way, says Rubigote. Arturo would never have an inappropriate relationship. He then says how everyone knows she is beautiful, Arturo is no exception. Then he says something about him taking care of her, supporting her, she just has to decide what she wants and it can change her life. She says the prof already does that for her. He says, “pero no esta bien, poner todo los huevos en la misma canasta.” It’s not good to put all your eggs in one basket. In life, you always need a plan B, he says. Little does he know she’s reaching for letters from the Cyrillic alphabet to keep track of all her plans. He offers to help her, counsel her, he even has time tonight. Tell him what time and he’s all hers. She likes the idea of Rubigote helping her but she will tall Lic. She doesn’t want to deceive him in any way.

Paloma is sad that she can’t go back to see Pablito. She liked him, such a sweet kid. But alas, she can’t. He’s Teresa’s family. And she says she saw the prof. Did you ask him? Her prima asks. No, what’s the point? Teresa told me again not to come near them. Paloma says she has the right. That’s her husband! (I feel like I should like Paloma, and want her to reconcile with the prof, but I can’t. Not yet anyway.) She’s thinking of not returning to that hospital. –You can’t live you life just by what that woman says! –But I don’t want problems with Arturo. We’re actually in peace. Plus, she says, she liked what he said to her.

Teresa calls Aida and says why don’t we meet up to talk about you buying me a new dress. Aida says heeeeck no.

Cutb sees Juana and comments on her dress. She keeps giving him the cold shoulder and goes back to her house.

Pab’s mom is crying. She can’t watch him keep throwing up. Espe tries to calm her. She will go in and be with Pab for a while, she can try to calm down. Remember what Mar said. We have to be strong for Pab!

Johnny is trying to reason with Armando. Let him help. Johnny wants Armando to see him like he sees Mariano, like part of the family. He tells him to fetch something, and Johnny is thrilled he’s letting him help.

Tere meets with Rubigote who is waiting at a table. She gets right to it and pulls out the work she needs help with. Aida and Paulo are at the same place. Tere has told Aida to meet her there—she knows nothing good. That’s why she asked Paulo along. She sees them at the table. “She’s with my dad?!”

And there we end for today my friends! Woo, the double episodes produce looong recaps, hope they aren’t too drawn out for you guys... tried to make the second one shorter by paraphrasing but that produced less vocab. I'll find a happy medium soon, I promise!

Teresa is. just murdering Aide in all these tit for tat encounters with her and she's awesome in them very smart.

The mock trial was hysterical when el profe asked the class who would be the defendants lawyer when Teresa said "yo puedo defenderme sola" you just knew she was gonna massacre Ai-dumb as she did and she was great Teresa is gonna make an excellent lawyer one day.

I found it very interesting that Teresa basically tells Aida "I'm keeping count of all of these offenses and when you least expect it I will get my revenge"(me voy a vengar!!!)

Why? what for as far as I know Aida once clowned her in front of a bunch of high school students exposing her as a fake wannabe rich girl who really is poor ONCE at a party and that was it meanwhile Teresa is just having victory after victory including public ones like a class full of University students and always getting serious payback every single time.

Funny when Teresa tells Aida to preoccupy her self to her studies because every time she provokes her she is only exposing her lack of brains lol that was soooo good and simply friendly advise get a life Aide don't worry about me.

Aida:Te cres muy Teresa: "Lo soy" (I am)LOVE THAT it was a that's right in your face
Biotch I am the $h(t and you know it!!!

And to finish off her Victory over Aida as Aidumb loses her cool and wants to lunge at Tere she simply yells I know how to control my self "No como tu Aida" and just walks out like the lady she is and finishes off the Victory in style.

As cool as Teresa really is she is a total bitch poor Cutberto dude let your madrina have someone in her life but no she completely brings him down in her madrinas eyes not cool.

BTW very funny recap.

Anon- I loved that scene and Teresa's put down of Aida's intellectual capacity too. ITA with your comment.

I also love the way Arturo handled the situation in the class, and later when he called Ruben over. "Control your brat, because if you don't and she continues to put my reputation on the line, I will destroy her." But said in the nice, polite, restrained manner of Hot Prof.

Wonderful recap so far Samantha. I'm looking forward to part 2.

Samantha: This was outstanding. I laughed out loud at the title. Your noting and translating bits of conversation was inspired - and very much appreciated.

I thought your insights were great: "I suppose she’ll use that excuse until it runs on, on anything she can make it work for" and my favorite line was: "Meanwhile, Gen looks like she is wondering if it’s too early for a gin and tonic". :)

Teresa toys with her prey (Aida), then devours her. There's nothing I despise more than a bully, and Aida is the perfect example. I cheer loudly at each successive victory Teresa has.

Conversely, she was cold hearted in her advice to Juanita. It's amazing how influential her words are to everyone - friend and foe alike. Anon, I am totally with you there.

I kept waiting for Mariano to catch Teresa with Arturo at the hospital. Split second timing also averted a disaster of Mariano meeting Paloma. Lady luck is on Teresa's side - at least for the moment.

Very funny recap. Love the bit about her getting more puppets.

The word is "asqueroso/asquerosa" which is filthy, gross, etc. "¡Que asco!"

Now I think Teresa dresses inappropriately for going to school a lot of the time, but yesterday was the kicker. That dress was so over the top and kind of makes her being poor stand out. It's the person with no money who doesn't know how to dress for the occasion and just puts on the most expensive thing she has.

"Nadie me quita de la cabeza que andas con alguien":
"nobody will get it out of my head that you are with someone (ie sneaking around/cheating)."

Refugio says "menos mal que es cierto."

I did love that this is one of the few telenovelas where they actually point out the virtue that is being intelligent. Most telenovelas, the heroine is awesome because she is beautiful and because she "es tan buena y todos la quieren". You hardly ever hear how much smarter the heroine is. So it is nice to have Teresa being smarter, and not just with her scheming, but in school. Yes, she manipulates, but she also does the work.

Teresa thinks her marina is too good for a poor, uneducated man like Cutberto, but she also wants her marina for herself. As it stands, her madrina spends money on her making her clothes. If she needed money she knows she could fall back on her madrina who has savings. She can go live there if she has another snit with her mother. These things wouldn't quite be the same if she ended up with Cutberto. Unless Juana were to find herself a rich man, in which case she would be of more use to Teresa, she's just not going to let her be happy.

Armando is an idiot. He should have taken Johnny's money. Pay that hag and then you can pay back your friends who won't threaten to take everything you have. And Johnny, just do like Mariano and go directly to her instead of trying to convince Armando to take the money.

Ay, silly phone auto-corrected madrina to marina!

great recap! i love how you put in lots of vocab. looking forward to the 2nd half. i am totally in love with teresa (the girl, i mean) for her butt-kicking ways. it is nice to have a devious and very bright heroine. it seems like the writers want us to think that she is selfish for warning Juana off Cutberto, but as my husband pointed out, she made some very valid points about him. and she has given Espe consistently good advice too (bigotes is never gonna leave his wife, get your own job, etc). she may be a bit on the mala side, but a lot of it is just cold-hard realism (not a telenovela forte).

slightly O/T: ELVIRA: please email me to set up our schedule. i will plan on doing tonight's recap, but would like to touch base with you just the same.

Thank you everyone for the corrections! For the quite la cabeza part I had a translation similar to what you corrected it as, but then I thought that Gen already knew about Espe so I changed it! Should've gone with my instincts.
Asquerosa is actually a word I have seen written and heard before but never put two and two together! Ah! Thanks S!
Anon at 7:17 thanks for the translations of some of her insults!
Okay, getting started on part 2!

Glad to help. Just a couple other things:

In the mock trial, what Teresa says is:

"En este planteamiento tan torpe e insostenible, se delata la autora aunque pretenda mantenerse anónima."

In this very inelegant/stupid and baseless/ unsustainable scenario/approach/exposition, the perpetrator/author (depending on which meaning of author Teresa was going for) gives herself away, although she attempts to remain anonymous.

It's some nice, spiffy vocabulary, so it's perfectly understandable that you didn't pick up the right words!

Also, caro means expensive not important.

Samantha, your recap and Spanish lessons are so good. I mean, in what Spanish class will you learn about the word, asquerosa? (Are you really doing this without Spanish CCs? I am amazed!) I really appreciate the frases, this is the reason I am watching the story in the first place, I have learned more from the recaps of Teresa due to the kind teaching of the recappers.
I love your funny observations. "Stink face" very good. HOW incredibly accurate, in your title, "puppets".
Now, I know everyone seems so in admiration of Teresa, but I ask you all, if she was dating your son how would you feel? I don't think this TN is saying that intelligent women can have virtue. This TN still has the premise that the truly good are naive. We admire Teresa because she stands up for herself, but she is incredibly dishonest, manipulative and selfish-look how she doesn't care if Juana is happy and doesn't notice when Mariano is sad.

And...Mariano can't blow off autopsy rounds if he wants to keep being a medical student.

I don't think the good people are shown as being naive or dumb. Think of all the good intelligent people in this: The Professor, Mariano, Esperanza, Aurora, Dr. Ledesma and his brother, Aurora's dad, Luisa and her boyfriend. None of them are stupid. In fact, all of them are quite good at what they do, are intelligent, AND kind. It's not their fault that Teresa is a predator- preying on their kindness. I am sure they will all wise up to her and her game at some point.

Teresa has some hard life lessons to learn. She is far from perfect, and I don't think anyone of us would want her as a friend or family member. But I'm not sure I would want any of those doormat weakling tn heroines for a friend or relative either. Teresa is much more entertaining to watch succeed, and to watch fail. Because her failures will be all her fault, and not because of fate or bad people trying to do bad things to her.

OK, perhaps we are just glad Teresa verbally slapped Aida down. It will be fascinating to see what happens when Teresa's lies are exposed.

And, I agree with Vivi-the characters are intelligent and the story is fascinating. I think the professor is naive about a girl like Teresa, as well as Aurora. I hope Teresa does learn those lessons so she can stop making life miserable for those around her.

Sam, loved the way you pointed out that Teresa has a hot profe and poor Mariano has a "meanie". Could she just have let Mariano explain? The habits and cultural responsibilities of a vecindad are hard to break, I think Mariano has learned his lesson. Sam, thanks for your fun, double duty recap.

I love Paloma. She is on the volunteer front lines in hospitals reading to sick children which can be HEARTBREAKING. I'm going to make an excuse for her, back in the day, parents had much more control over their children, they could determine careers and marriages. I think she was a victim of a more successful Refugio! If Paloma could have just come back a month earlier, she might have gotten her profe back! But our profe is completely caught in the "spider web" of Teresa. Remember when Mammy told Scarlett that she was "just like a spider?" Ha!

S, I agree with with you on the fact that they are really letting Teresa have a brain, instead of her being the typical "Adela Noriega" type personality. I actually like a good, loving woman, but it is fun to have a little role reversal for a change. Drats! Why did they have to make her such a liar!

I'm not sold on Cuthberto either. Why would you take a woman to a fancy restaurant if you didn't have the money to pay for it? I think Teresa's reasons are more his "station" though, as well as material. Her "Mariachi" slur was priceless, except that I love Mariachis!

S, thanks for all your in depth translations!

Oh yes,

On the gift of the car, that "Teach them to fish," lecture from Arturo to Luisa was pretty good and excellent advice as well. Yes, to have a car you need gas, insurance and maintenance cash, too tough for Teresa to handle right now.

Thank you everyone for helping. Yes I watch without captions, so I really appreciate the help! Plus, when I make a mistake and am corrected, I am more likely to remember that for future recaps and life experiences, so thank you S and others for helping! I wanted so badly to finish that sentence (in the mock trial) but I couldn't make it out and I knew I would have butchered it! Gracias for sharing, I knew one of you guys would help with that!
As for Tere being smart and manipulative. I agree that there are other good people in the show who are smart, but not our Tere. She is heading for a big fall, I think, and then she'll be on redemption road--though that's hard to imagine right now! I think it's showing all sides of intelligence and how to use it. Look at how Mariano uses his intelligence vs. Teresa. There is definitely a lesson in there. He ended up being given an extension from his professor, right? Though it was done by others, not his own manipulations.

Samantha: "Esa hembra may be mala, but she knows how to work it." LOL! Great line! Terrific P.1 and I can't wait to read your P.2.

Can't believe you did this without CC's, either! Good on you, amiga!

Hilarious recap of the conversation between Rubigote and his little brat!

And this is gold:
"Little does he know she’s reaching for letters from the Cyrillic alphabet to keep track of all her plans."

Great job!

Fantastic recao Frances! You are great and you did wonderful without captions. Let me commend you on your excellent use of the genre in words. I know that's pretty difficult for English speakers when they use Spanish.

I also enjoyed the trial, I love how Teresa knows how to get to Aída without even needing to bat an eye. And I loved how Arturo was so proud of her, sigh. Mariano may have gotten a mean professor but he is training to be a doctor, that's a big responsability and teachers tend to be hard on them because of it.

Jarocha

Rocking recap Samantha. Fitting the the puppet master Teresa was given puppets as a gift.

The mock trial reminded me of a mock trial I took part in in college. I was the defense attorney and it got pretty heated during the argument. My classmate acting as the judge hit the gavel and said, "order in the court. Please respect the b*tch." The whole classroom erupted in laughter. She meant to say bench but it was so funny. Anyway, back to the recap. I was disappointed that Esp that caught in Ruben's web again.

I'm thinking when Teresa does get her revenge on Aída, it will be spectacular. One small complaint though. I'm tired of all the kissy kissy coo scenes with Teresa and Mariano LOL. Give me some Teresa and Arturo scenes and I'm all good.

Tonight's show should be good with Teresa setting the groundwork for revenge against Aída by using her father.

Piratebabe--I know! In the back of my head I thought, coincidence or does Aurora know more than she lets on?? Hilarious story from college. That reminded me of one class when we were going over some of Shakespeare's poetry and scansion, and one girl had to break the words and lines up by syllable and she ended up saying "but face." Everyone heard 'buttface' and erupted into laughter.
Jarocha--You mistook me for Frances! I'm going to take that as a compliment as well as your kind words. THANK YOU!!

And yes, duh on me caro=expensive. Sometimes my typing fingers get away from me! Thanks for catching that.

Great part 2 Samantha. I love the detail that you gave us.

I hate, hate, hate that Espe gave in to Ruben! I see that damn key she wears around her neck as her chain and shackle. She was so close to getting rid of it and Ruben.

Samantha, great recap, thanks.

What has made Aida so mean spirited? She is almost irrational when it comes to Teresa. It is a good thing Teresa has learned to defend herself and not be bullied by people like Aida.

I don't blame Teresa one bit for being against the Juana/Cuthberto relationship. If he has a drinking problem, she is better off without him and all of the grief that he could cause.

Rosemary

Samantha, I haven't been able to find the time to watch this show as much as I would like--so I truly appreciate all the time you have spent doing double recaps and adding vocabulary. Without you and all the other hard-working recappers I couldn't begin to keep up and would have to totally blow this show off.

I just have to add that your title just made me smile with its cleverness. Good one! And, like Anon, your Plan A to Cyrillic Z comment was too funny.

Thanks!

Many people giving Cutberto a hard time the guy is a good man with some character flaws he's annoying at times gossipy nosy but I've never seen him piss drunk falling down why the assumption he's a drunk.

Juana clearly likes him he's serious about her they would make a good couple and they were heading in the right direction before good ole Teresa planted the seed of doubt in her madrinas head.

Thank you so much for this great recap! I had to rush through this episode today, as I missed it last night and watch the recording.

That hembra is mala but you're right, she sure does know how to work it! I LOLed at that line!

Rosemary, I think that Aida feels threatened. Teresa gets the top grades and she is much prettier. Aida can't stand not being the alpha female in the group. That Teresa comes from poverty is a double whammy.
