Cuando Me Enamoro #28 Monday 5/30/11 Letting Many Cats Out of Many Bags But Still Hay Gatos Encerrados

Let’s jump right in, CME likes to replay so much of the night before. To review: Roberta with her “heart problem” and Fina dearest beat a hasty retreat from the tios casa. The tios assure Renata of their love and support for her with Adriana looking on with pleasure and wishing she had Honorio as a wonderful uncle. Back at the MonteRuinios, Fina scolds Gonzo again for not believing in Roberta who lies like a rug and then without missing a breath, she chews out Roberta for not being deceptive enough. You just can’t please this woman! Roberta and Fina finally agree that they both have to fool everyone in order to save their luxurious life.

Matias goes back to that same old bar to hear the bartender ask where is his hot novia and oh yes he remembers her being there with Jeronimo, her being there looking for Rafa and then withJeronimo again. What a hot babe. Matias takes it like a crying baby, he jerks the barkeep’s tie then then orders up a huge tequila. Gonna be a long night.

Jero and Renata send text messages, thankfully and slowly mouthed out loud, can’t wait to be with you. He pours fine wine, notice the refined choice compared to Matias' sippy cup of tequila.

In the garden that looks so like Las Mañanitas in Cuernavaca, Adriana and Renata talk about what Renata wants to do now that her life has been turned upside down.

Matias hears a song on his cell phone with a picture of happier times with Renata, then cries some more and slurps his tequila. Someone please clue this cute guy in that tequila running down your chin mixing with salty tears is not a turn on.

Augie is being pushy with the receptionist at Renata’s firm asking for Renata, she does tell him that she doesn’t work there anymore but she won’t give him the cell number, then he asks for Gonzo or Matias but has to hear that they aren’t in. Augie asks himself where could she be and what has she done with the business. Shades of Roberta seeing the dollars/pesos fall away?

Honorio comes in to cheer up a morose Gonzo who has had his calls held. After stating that he doesn’t really go out for drinks, this time he agrees it is a good idea to go out for a drink to talk over all the problems. Gonzo thanks him for his help and support of the family.

Matias does a great drunken stagger landing at the foot of the stairs but carefully not breaking the ornamental balls. Fina sees him and determines that he is indeed drunk as a skunk. She rushes up to tell Roberta that the time is ripe for trapping Matias. Roberta in her less than sexy sweats and ready for bed is less than excited but this just fell into place. Momma is taking no prisoners or rather she is taking only prisoners.

In the restaurant Gonzo says I have a daughter I don’t trust, I have a wife I don’t love and Matias and Renata make me sad I had such plans for them being together. Honorio says he is totally pro family and anti divorce but in this case it may make sense for Gonzo to escape. Kindly Gonzo insists he will always regard Renata and Roberta as his daughters, and would provide for Fina and them, what a gentleman you are, says Honorio who leaves to return home to Constanza.

Roberta comes into Matias’ bedroom in a house where no one feels the need to respect privacy. He wants to know what she is doing there, he really is in no mood for company. She assures him she is there to share his pain, he is marvelous and doesn’t deserve to be treated so badly. She unbuttons his shirt assuring him that Jero meant nothing to her, but she could love him for all of her life. They fall to the bed in misbegotten passion.

Alone at the table Gonzo taken off his ring and it falls to the floor as he sees Regina enter the restaurant. They join hands rescuing the ring and she notices something is going on with him. Even though they are to meet tomorrow morning, he thinks she should have a drink with him while she waits for whomever. She accepts with breathless smiles.

Back at Jero’s the wine is open, the roses laid at the table and abounding in beautiful bunches in the apartment. After they embrace she reports she is still overwhelmed (abrumada). As they talk excitedly about being together, she can’t believe the man who she fell to the floor with in the airport is totally changing her life. He gives her the stone back from that day and he agrees that everything is changing. She mentions poor Matias who suffers, and how hard it is to assimilate so many things and strong feelings in such a short time. He pours more fine wine while she recounts the meeting where they learned that Honorio discovered the trick that her rat sister perpetrated with the helicopter throwing the naughty pictures of her out to the crowd at Matias’ party. He says he is glad he didn’t have problems with his brother like that. Your brother????

Fina waits outside Matias’ bedroom listening for whatever while she dismisses the maid so she can stay and listen more.

Renata wants to hear about the brother who Jero says died recently and he doesn’t want to talk about his bad feelings. She talks about how her mother and sister seem to hate her and she doesn’t feel like she has anyone He says at least you have me. They playfully compete in who loves who more and he loves her more than he could imagine. At least someone is happy.

Roberta comes back to her room where mama waits. What are you doing here? I’m here to take a bath so I can sleep. Matias is asleep and really drunk but she did what she was sent for. No, you aren’t done yet. The most important part is to come. Mama smiles her evil smile.

Adriana tells her mother what a terrific galan Honoroio is. Mom Agatha seems to misunderstand and insists that Honorio is married and old enough to be her father, oops Freudian moment? Adriana presses her mom that she doesn’t understand her what her mother has against Honorio who has been such a great boss. She wants to know what really happened between her mom and Honorio. She wants the truth.

Honorio and Conza discuss the family, Conza says she loves Ren but doesn’t want to hurt Matias either Honorio recounts how Renata made some mistakes but didn’t really mean to hurt Matias but she didn’t love him. Conza pipes in that was because she loved Jeronimo. they decide to call Renata to offer their home to her.

Renata and Jero are surprisingly still dressed and finishing a delicious meal that apparently Jero prepared. The phone rings and Conza tells Renata how much they love her and she can move in with them.

Regina and Gonzo talk about how one has a right to be happy he tells her his son never accepted Josefina as a step-mother so he stayed far away until recently. They are interrupted just before he tries to tell her he is leaving Fina. But at that moment, Antonio comes and takes Regina off to their table being nice and friendly to Gonzo this time but very definite.

Jero and Renata are loosening the clothes, massaging necks and then he launches his big plan: I may not be the rich guy you think I am. She swears she is an independent woman who can take care of herself and she swears that all she needs at her side is a man who is hardworking and loyal. Not at all like the fit Roberta threw last week when she feared Jero couldn’t even afford the luxury apartment. Let’s see, smiling Renata or carping Roberta, not a difficult decision now is it. Whew this is a busy episode bouncing between four conversations where the hot is so hot and the cold is so cold.

Antonio notices Regina is wearing the big shiny ring. She says it signifies her support and appreciation but does not signify dates and paperwork or specific wedding plans. He promises to protect her but he also thinks she may want to know that he has talked to an investigator who could help her find more about her missing daughter. He has a friend in the government who can find out what happened to Josefina Alvarez if not the baby girl lost so long ago. You know people that high in government, she seems amazed. If you are in agreement, we will proceed with searching for that woman. She thanks him profoundly. Suddenly, we see that Gonzo may not have a counter offer so grand as this.

Fina jumps on Gonzo again about offending Roberta then goes coyingly sweet talking to him that he should check on Matias. His poor little boy is so wretched about what evil has been done him too. He tells her that Renata has resigned from the firm. He hesitates and finally leaves her cussing under her breath, but he will wait until tomorrow morning to give Matias time to sober up and cool off.

Renata and Jero flirt like teenagers at Adriana’s door. She would like to go far away with him to begin a life all over again together. He says how about a hacienda “BONITA” with emphasis, she looks pleased and doesn’t blink at the adjective, but doesn’t recognize the name. She says if he really means it she would go tomorrow. Road trip soon???

Gonzo finally shows up in Matias room next morning where they talk casually about his hung over state when the blankets take on a life of their own and Roberta crawls out of the king covers to hear Gonzo deliver that most famous of telenovela lines: ¿Que Haces Aqui??? What are you doing here? She actually looks at him as though she has no idea.

Renata talks with Agatha who says she can stay with them or go with her aunt and uncle. Agatha asks if there isn’t some place for her at the business. Renata says yes but that is not the problem. Agatha launches off about peeling the jojohe or hokoke, is that some kind of fruit? Anyway the image is as Adriana explains Mom’s symbolism, that a new skin will develop to carry you on to the next stage and all your honor and dignity are worth everything. And if this person isn’t worthy of you get away adds Agatha, showing cracks in her suit of armor.

Gonzo does a good yell at Roberta while Matias at least takes the adult role that it is all his fault. How could you Matias, I know this should never have happened and that he can understand his anger and desperation at loosing Renata. Matias says I am so sorry. Roberta slides in, It may not signify anything to you but for me it was unforgettable. Oh please… Fina uses this moment to come in and gives Roberta a great whallop. Then turns on Matias with her best stink eye.

Speaking of meddling mothers, Regina’s mama goes on about how lucky she is to have found someone like Antonio. I got something about Regina being pleased that she can have Roberto’s consultation room for another year. It’s a non sequitur in my book, but? An impressive vase, actually a big bucket of roses arrive and she reads the card from of course, Antonio Mama repeats that he came to change your life.

Constanza assures Renata that she is so welcomc to stay with her aunt and uncle and the room at Adriana’s may be complicated so she is preparing a room for her. She regards her almost as a daughter. Nice to see Renata soaking up the love.

Matias says he will leave, but Fina is on the alert and did something happen or not to her darling daughter she insinuates the worst. Gonzo with just a drop of irony opines that no one needs another loveless marriage, Fina sweeps her claws across the scene with a you’ll pay if anything did happen threat to Matias…

Next time: everyone and I mean everyone is about to find out that Rafa was Jero’s brother.

Awesome title! So clever amiga.

No way would any self-respecting bartender be such a blabbermouth. Nope. Wouldn't happen.

"Sippy cup of tequila", hee...way to smack him down.

"But carefully not breaking the ornamental balls", no pun intended, right?

Who knew Fina was such a hall monitor, snooping and listening outside the door? She's like the hall monitor pimp.

Oh man, that scene where Roberta crawled out from under the covers was creepy. "Blankets take on a life of there own", indeed. Well said.

"Fina sweeps her claws across the scene with a you’ll pay if anything did happen threat to Matias…". Dang, that was positively poetic. I'm impressed.

Thanks Cheryl. Didn't tonight seem like the mother of all set-up nights? I loved your superb recap and your way with words.

Yay, road trip!!! Let's go to the wine country!

Cheryl, thanks so much for lending your wonderful wit to another recap. On a holiday, no less! I was at a cookout with my family and missed this one.

Ay, Matias. If only you hadn't thrown back one too many "sippy cups of tequila" (lol). The pobre hombre is a decent dude, just awfully immature about the Renata situation. Now Robbie and Fina are going to use that against him. Boo, hiss!

"Fina waits outside Matias’ bedroom listening for whatever..." So. Freaking. Creepy. Not only is Fina a murderer and an all around evil-doer, she's also a voyeur. Ms. Inappropriate, hands down.

I'm happy that Renata got to "soak up the love" tonight too. After all the doom and gloom she's suffered recently, a little R&R is definitely in order. For the time being, Renata has Jero's love and affection and (hopefully for the remainder of the story) she has Constanza and Honorio's love and support as well.

Amy

"Fina sweeps her claws across the scene with a you’ll pay if anything did happen threat to Matias…".

I so agree with Sylvia-this was masterful. A+. I literally just see her claws scarping away the film...not a pretty site first thing in the a.m. :)

That whole drunken crying, slobber scene with Matias was almost funny. Again, get a grip...and was he really THAT drunk? To me that scene played out that he was "getting back" at Nata some way. He may have been suprised in the morning before he remembered, but I don' think he can plead total ignorance and "I don't remember".

As for Fina...crimey. What a mother. I can't even put words to how disgusting she was putting her own daughter into the situation. And those stink-eyes of her's - the stuff of nightmares.

Love Nata and Jero - need him to move to the hacienda so he can lose the tie!

Why am I continually creeped out by Antonio? Anyone else just not feeling the love with this character?

I like the pace now - things are playing along and now the whole "Rafa was my bro" is coming out.

Cheryl- The sippy cup of tequila and the image of Fina swiping her claws were also two of my favorite lines in an overall wonderful recap.

I agree that Mati partly went along with the moment to get back at Renata. I'm glad that he did remember in the morning. I always hate when the man (or woman) has NO memory of what supposedly happened, but still accept it as truth. In this case he did actually do the deed, he was a VERY willing participant, AND he remembers it. I feel less sympathy now for the trap he's fallen into, because the truth is that he COULD have impregnated Roberta (if she weren't already in that condition).

Loved the Renata and Jero scenes. More please. :)

Looks like tonight Rob and Fina find out about Jero's link to Rafa. But will anyone tell Renata?

Fina was indeed creepy standing outside to make sure her daughter did her job. Pimp! And those icy glares she throws at people...yikes! I am starting to understand why she won for best villain (although most entertaining villain should have gone to Fedra).

Here's a pic of a very young Rocío Banquells (Fina), Victoria Ruffo and Guillermo Capetillo (Antonio): http://bit.ly/lPHlI8

Great job Cheryl. My favorite line:

"They fall to the bed in misbegotten passion."

Nicely understated and poignant.

Agatha was talking about jocoque which apparently is a Mexican sour cream, but for the life of me, I can't make sense of what she was saying.

I'm going to own up to thinking that Roberta is downright gorgeous. I saw her in the crowd at the awards show and she has the sweetest smile. She reminds me of someone I once dated. I think that her attractiveness is more complex and unique than what is typically considered beauty.

Thanks to Sylvia, I'm going to nominate Cristian as Mr. Inappropriate. Aren't bartenders like priests and Drs. as far as confidentiality is concerned?

Matis also gets a nod for his assault of the bartender... get a grip, man... and not of the innocent barkeep.

"Someone please clue this cute guy in that tequila running down your chin mixing with salty tears is not a turn on."

Yes, definitely not cool.

Maybe we should have equal opportunity as for as declaring the most inappropriate behavior. Certainly, so far, the ladies have been just as egregious.

I wonder if it would help if Antonio would mile more or perhaps grow a moustache? In MEPS he had a moustache in the flashbacks of his grandpa. I thought it looked very dashing.

Carlos

Carlos- In the pic link I posted he has a 'stache and looks quite handsome. Of course, he was in the full blush of youth too, but I do think a moustache would look good on him now.

Not only did the bartender have loose lips, but he also gave false information. He said Renata and Jero were sharing some passionate kisses the last time they were in his bar. From what I remember, Jero planted a rough and unwanted kiss on Renata, which earned him a slap.

Cheryl wow! Great word imagery!!! Boy do you have Fina pegged. Ornamental balls ROTFLOL!

I was lost with the jocoque stuff too, but did find out it was some type of cultured milk product, so the "skin" must refer to the skin that forms on heated milk, as this type of skin will grow back.

I think Agatha was trying to make the point to Renata not to make the new love relationship her be all and end all or else she might find herself totally empty if it ends. I'm sure she is recalling what happened for her when Honorio broke up.

I guessed that Fina would have Roberta take advantage of Matías when he got drunk on his sorrows, so when Matías started crying into his tequila sippy cups (LOL!) I thought—Here we go! But I had no idea he would just jump on Roberta like that with just a tiny encouragement. The guy is out of control! After all his tantrums and baby crying to be so ready to jump Robert's bones, he's getting what he deserves IMO. I wash my hands! Definitely my vote for Mr. I. As well as Mr. Pathetic.

Carlos - you just love las hembras malas, don't you! I wish I could see Roberta when she's not mean-faced, because to me so far her face is just too skull like to be pretty.

Audrey

great recap, cheryl!
loved..
Momma is taking no prisoners or rather she is taking only prisoners.

and 'then turns to Matias with her best stink eye'...

yeah 'careful not breaking the ornament balls'... good one!

My question is... how could Matias sip on his tequila but chug down a whole glass of brandy (i guess that is what it was, it was a round goblet so you usually dont serve tequila there)...

so Jeronimo's secret relation is not so secret anymore fron tonight on..

btw, 'Bonita' translates to pretty so when he said 'you wouldnt mind moving to a pretty hacienda' is a pretty general way to say it, so she would not have any reason to do any connection from the 'bonita' name to the adjective.

Audrey, you are right,
I am not that familiar with jocoque, but if it is like you said, the skin that forms when you let warm milk or warm cafe con leche stand around, it was a good analogy on Agatha.
She was warning Renata not to give ALL of herself to this love she is feeling, to save some of herself in case the relationship does not last or she is let down, to save some of herself so she will be able to recover and rebuild her life again, (like someone rips the skin that has formed at the top but the milk is still able to rebuild her skin/shell again, Agatha was really referring to her own history and relationship with Honorio, where she gave all of her self and she ended up not having any left in her to rebuild her life... )

Audrey, you are right on with the 'Mr. Pathetic' nickname...
we have mentioned the sippy cups so much that now I am picturing Matias on a high chair with one of those plastic sippy cups for toddlers having a tantrum and shooting his breakfast across the kitchen...

Great recap, creepy episode, but at least we learned a new word..."jocoque". Yay.

Loved the "Monteruinos" quip, and like everyone else the poetic "Fina sweeps her claws across the scene..."

I join Amy in giving her the Ms. Inappropriate award last night to Fina for hovering outside the door to hear evidence of carnal huffing and puffing. Impressed though that Matias could even function with that much booze in him. Hard to believe, actually.

Ready for a change of scene to the hacienda and some more sweet lovin' from our main couple.

As for Antonio, the Grecian Formula and those jowls just put me off. No way could I ever root for the guy but Regina seemed all aglow last night. The power of a sad story of lost family I guess.

Hope everybody had a great Memorial Day. Here in Ohio, for us Tressel fans, it was a bummer.

What a masterful recap. You have a way with words. I too was pleased to see some lovig between Jeronimo & Renata. Let's hope it lasts for a while before they get ripped apart by the TN Gods.

I liked the one ring off and one ring on imagery at rhe restaurant with Gonzo, Regina & Antonio.
Thanks again

Good morning all, what a fun episode for those of us who like the creepy side of life. Some good acting I think and at last we get some sweet romance in the mix. I think Jero and Renata are endearing and quickly forming a bond with great physical attracton and actually interesting repartee. They should make a good power couple. I love the way Jero is taken back by Renata's honest disinterest in his money and taking the adjective form of bonita rather than recoiling at the "Bonita". It makes him think that perhaps she doesn't know Rafa's beloved hacienda. How many ways is he going to test her though. Then there will be the fun of Augie chasing her through the vines. We might begin to see how one runs a vineyard properly though since Renata and Jero are both business aces.

I don't mean to be so hard on Matias who is a really good guy at heart but so annoying in the way he has intensified his feelings for Renata now turned to a martyr's sense of betrayal. HIs whole destiny with the loveless Roberta prompted by the vengeful Fina seems like way more punishment than he deserves for just being a crybaby.

Carlos, if you like those bad girls like Roberta and I remember how you were in reverie over Constanza last year, just wait until you get a line on Perla starting tonight. Or have you seen Alborada before? But I agree that Roberta is beautiful and doing a good job at annoying us.

Thanks for clearing up Agatha's use of the milk scum imagery and pointing out her strong woman advice to Renata about keeping your own power and self-worth in tact. Good counsel indeed from someone who learned it the hard lonely way.

I think Cristian the cute but loose lipped barkeep broke enough universal laws to get the nod for Mr. I. for not being a good confidante.

Is jessica Coch married to a big tn producer in Mexico? I was watching the TV y Novelas awards and when the guy won the award he thanked a 'Jessica' and they put her on camera. Is she his wife?
Roberto Gomez, I think he was, the son of Roberto Gomez Bolanos 'Chespirito'

Cheryl--the recap was hilarious yet appropriately restrained in other places, such as "Renata and Jero are surprisingly still dressed and finishing a delicious meal that apparently Jero prepared." The comments are capturing the highlights of the best of the best.

I got a big kick out of Renata's surprise when Jero admitted to having taken cooking classes for fun--and this is the man who's going to declare himself in financial ruin?

BTW--Cheryl--one tiny transposition you should think of making--for posterity since we know who Gonzo wanted to see Matias with--that would be Renata, not Roberta. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

Carlos et al--as to a Ms. Inappropriate--we'd need to exclude Fina, otherwise she would be voted for doing something inappropriate every night, thereby ruining others' chances for nomination.

I agree that the bartender was Mr. I last night. Matias, did get a clue, however, that Ren was asking around for Rafa with his picture.

But a close second was Matias for jumping into bed with Roberta with ittle "ahem.play"--definitely revenge, sour grapes, whatever, but not passion nor certainly love. Poor trapped beast. Fina's got his number.

Guera--good observation on the rings; hadn't thought about it that way. Nice touch.

As someone mentioned several episodes back--Antonio is still Anibal from MEPS--and I can't get my head wrapped around any other image. Such a wimp. At least here Tony isn't an incompetent wimp and (based on having had a wife and child) not averse to marital relations.

Vivi--me, too. More lovin' from Jero and Ren. It has to be at the Hacienda that they first do cositas. How is Jer going to hide the fact that this is his brother's place--or is that what's coming out tonight.

P.S. Carlos--at to our Roberta--Jessica had to be nasty in Mi Pecado and she seems to do it by tightening her face, grimacing and opening her mouth up wide. You only have to look at the beginning credits when they are playing in the grapes to see she is very attractive--I mentioned it then.

It seems to follow that once you are typed as a villana, directors and casting agents keep coming back to you because they know you can do it well. I hope Jessica gets an opportunity to do something else soon. Funny how Gaby Spanic went the other way. From heroina to villana.

For LVA additcts, I did not recognize Galilea Montijo on stage at the premios, even after they introduced her. She's quite changed, poised, more mature, but still beautiful.
NOK

Cheryl, I did see Alborada before, but I'm looking forward to watching again, this time with the Caray Caray gang and CCs (I hadn't discovered them the first time around and had to rewind a lot).

I fondly remember Perla, not as a bad person... more as a sad, beautiful, naughty girl. I'll probably feel compelled to comment on her from time to time as the show moves forward.

Carlos

I'll go with those voting for Matias as Mr. I. Don't care how crappy you' THINK you've been treated - you were drunk dude -and there are rules either way on that stuff. He should have told Roberta "NO" - I mean just the day or so before she was railing how much in love with Jero she was - so a few brain cells should have remembered that.

The bartender was a jerk - but unfortunately I've met a few of those types of "I think I'm cool" type bar-keeps who LOVE to gossip, so I wasn't surprised to have him spill the beans.

Fabulous recap Cheryl. Thank you.

Actually, Gonzo DOES have a counter-offer to Antonio possibly being able to find out what happened to Regina's daughter. That would be Regina's daughter herself who lived in Gonzo's house for many years. The bonding between Regina and Renata has already happened, and I expect it to get much deeper as the novela progresses.

I too find Antonio (Guillermo Capetillo) exceedingly creepy, and I find him creepy in every role I've seen him play. Either he's a poor actor, or he just has that kind of weird vibe. In either case, he should go back to bull fighting. No, on second thought, I hate bull fighting, so maybe he should become a fencing instructor.

Hey thanks Newbie for catching the Roberta for Renata error. I fixed it in the text which as always is full of mistakes but when we pour these out to get them posted fast, we need sharp eyes like yours to catch the big blunders. I always appreciate people's corrections.

To me part of what gives me the creeps with Antonio is that with the small eyes and fleshy face, he has a strongly porcine appearance. And he's not overweight either! Ugh - he is just SO unattractive and comes across as pathetic. Was the guy really a matador? He doesn't look like one at all!

Audrey

Audrey- Check out the picture link I included in my first comment.

Wow! That was long ago! Can we say 80s? Especially based on the ladies hairstyles. Ruffo and especially "Fina" look so different. No way I would have recognized the Antonio actor. What happened? - poor guy!

Audrey

Vivi, Wow, thanks for the link. I didn't believe he could have looked that good until you showed us. Maybe a fan letter campaign is in order: BRING BACK THE 'STACHE...

that was a few yrs after his debut... check out what he adn Edith Gonzalez looked like as teenagers in Los ricos tambien lloran.

Those pics are a scream. Thanks for posting.

Thank you, Cheryl! Great recap, great episode. Well, of course, Matias is the sap, just a flight of fancy yesterday suggesting Jero might be tapped. Like father, like son, trapped in a loveless marriage with a scheming harpie and another man's kid(s).

Oh Jero, Jero, Jero, don't you get it, you've got the bullseye on the wrong girl! But then again, we wouldn't have a story if he fessed up about Rafa and asked some direct questions.

Anybody know what story Adrianna's Mother told her about her Dad? She's a smart girl, she oughtta figure it out.

Loved how Gonzo essentially threw that wedding band down when he saw Regina. Gonzo didn't seem to pick up on Antonio's curt courtesy when he wisked Regina away -- Gonzo is so gone! Should be another great episode tonight. Thanks again, now on to what looks like a ton of great comments.
