Carlos, you always pick the most intriguing images!

Ditto what Julie said. This is the most artful photo yet. Are you a cameraman in your spare time (as if you had any!)

That is a mysterious picture image.

On one of the Bloopers, they have a scene where Victoria is looking out the door and La Poderosa is standing right behind her with a candle. Unknowingly, she gets the candle too close to her hair and starts it on fire. Luckily, it must have been a wig because the whole thing did not go up into flames.

Extra points to Carla Estrada for pairing two actresses who resemble wach other, as the mother/daughter pair. Before Alborada, I always catch the tail end of FELS, and I'm always struck by how DIFFERENT the three sisters look, as well as the three brothers.

Regarding Martín's burial, did anyone else think it strange that Aztec dancers in full regalia would be part of a Catholic ritual? Of course, many natives converted to Christianity. But I would think that the church of the time would closely associate the native ceremonial dress (feather headdresses, etc.) with pagan rituals.

While in Guanajuato, Mex, I went to
Cristo Rey

http://www.whatguanajuato.com/cristo-rey.html

It is a statue & a church, and they had Indians performing, dressed very similar. Very interesting.

Great shot Carlos.
I'm starting to think, which scene will Carlos use for todays episode?
I was wrong again, I thought it was going to be the funeral procession or the Indians.

I shed tears again, not so much for Martín but for Carmela & Felipe.
Carmela didn't want Marcos to leave.

I loved this episode, so many interesting things happened that are setups for actions to come.

Another superb screen shot. Thank you Carlos, you have a good eye.

Linda K, I just watched the bloopers and had to laugh at the wig-burning part. I seem to recall that we noticed this in the original airing of Alborada and commented that the actresses were very cool about it. Maybe because, as the blooper showed, they didn't realize Victoria's wig was on fire.

Francisco is such an ass, if he spent half the time trying to work as he does annoying and insulting people he would likely be in a better situation and not dependent on others.

I love how Hipolita always goes back to "we could work and earn our own money". She's willing to do what it takes, what a great work ethic.

Variopinta, that is an interesting link. Thank you. Your link reminded me when I was in Guanajuato a couple of years ago my hostess pointed out that most of the catholic churches included indigenous symbology in the decor. This is the only place in Mexico I have visited for a significant period of time so I can't compare it to anywhere else in the country.

Poor Carmela, clinging to Marcos like that.

Paula, thank you for posting this, the shot and the links.

Paula - I thought it was odd to have the Aztec dancers at Martin's burial, particularly when the Inquisition was going on and we saw people being paraded through the streets for heresy. Maybe the Church was ok with it since the funeral rites were Catholic.

I'm really mad that Martin died. Why couldn't he have survived, left Mexico to forget Hipolita and found a nice señorita in Spain? It's not fair! And his poor parents with no other children...really heartbreaking.

Esperanza with her mottled chest. Is that from sun exposure? She is so desperate and pathetic - I feel sorry for her.

Can't wait to see how Luis gets out of the doghouse with Hipo for being the mystery man in Panama.

@Anya, those look like freckles to me. But I agree, she is pathetic. And I don't know this actress at all, but she does a good characterization of hysterical, spurned, self-righteous, crazy.

Y'know, there are a whole lot of only children in this novela, especially since only children are somewhat uncommon in Mexico.

* Martin, of course.
* Luis is an only because his partents died at his baptism party.
* Diego is an only because his father died before he was born.
* Hipo is the only child of Ascuncion and and Agustin because he ditched her.
* Catarina is the only child of Asuncion and Francisco.
* Andres is the only child of Francisco and whoever.
* Rafael is the only child (thus far, anyway) of both Luis and Hipo, for all sorts of convoluted reasons.
* Marina's only "family" is her godmother, so she's probably an only.

That moment when Carmela clung to Marcos and wouldn't let him leave was a tear jerker moment for me too. So sad. I had visions of Marcos becoming like a true son to Carmela and giving her lots of "grandchildren" (although not from Perla, who in a way was the cause of Martin's death). What happened to Perla anyway? I wonder if we'll see her again and if there will be anything between her and Marcos. He seemed sweet on her.

I'm really enjoying trying to select one picture to represent each day's episode. This is really challenging since this is so beautifully filmed. The colors, the lighting, the faces, the shadows offer so many opportunities and temptations. The cleavage alone presented in each episode beckons me every day.

I'm more than happy to share this experience with anyone else who wants to give it a shot. I feel a little guilty about appearing to have the monopoly on the photos. I'm not complaining, I just don't want to be or appear selfish.

I have to admit my amusement in the way the sins of our characters are viewed. Here in Alborada, Luis essentially committed a sexual assault and we all hope that he is ultimately forgiven and even united with his victim while in CME we were all utterly (and rightly) disgusted by one of the (likely) bad guys stealing a kiss from our sleeping heroine and I'm not seeing an eagerness to forgive over there.

I have to agree Carlos, Luis is cheating on his wife, wants to divorce her for not producing an heir. He's chasing after another woman. I wont fault him for the midnight ravishing, he was in a bind & just couldn't help himself.
In any other novela or if it wasn't FC, we would consider him a slimeball.

None of this was too unusual for the time. Well maybe the midnight boinking.

Now he will have to protect Esperanza from the inquisition & probably Hipolita too. Men could cheat, but it was a no,no for wives.

We will give our hero lots of slack though, it's FC after all .

Thanks, Carlos, for anothrr great photo ...Poderosa and The Pirate Queen. Well, I'm hoping the funeral is over. Poor Felipe and Carmela. My heart hurts for them. I'm glad Hip talked to Tia. Tia is Luis's biggest supporter , so she will plead his case with all her heart. Can't wait for the story to continue. Speaking of great stories, Hub and I saw ''Jersey Boys'' this weekend in NYC. It's the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and it's fantastic. If you get the chance to see it, do it.

I remember that blooper. The older actress was very surprised that she had set the other actress's wig on fire. Yikes !

"Luis essentially committed a sexual assault and we all hope that he is ultimately forgiven and even united with his victim"

Hey, it's all in the context! Of course it's deplorable. But as Ada pointed out, Hipo doesn't have a lot of options. Hipo can try to find work to support herself and Rafael, she (maybe) can return to Antonio or she can live with the man she really probably still loves and is the father of her child. Luis needs to do a lot of redemption--but heck yes!--I would have never watched this telenovela if I didn't believe Luis and Hipo would end up together!

And, as Vario said, it's FC after all.

When Tia talks with the official's wife, I know she doesn't give up Hipo's name, but what does Tia tell her about the rumor of Luis' " bastardo"?

Going from memory here, Barbara, I think Isabel said that Luis has a right to an heir, and Espy has had many miscarriages, implying that she is unable to carry to term.

Thanks, Paula. Something about Tia's body language made me think she was denying the rumor, at least in part. I guess she was just aggravated by the question.

Tia Isabel told her (the regidor's wife?) that the rumors were completely true but she couldn't reveal the mother's name at that time but when she could, of course she would be the first to learn it.

Carlos

That Tia. What a schmoozer! Loved the screen pic Carlos. You have a very sensitive eye for detail & composition.

and I'm with Vario. FC can do no wrong. I think they got the mystery boinking over with in the first episode so we'd all settle down and get over it. Otherwise, there would be no plot at all. But honestly, I can think of no galán more simpatico than Luís. And I don't think he's ever looked this good in any other role.

As much as I love Hipólyta, her hiccuppy sniffling drives me up the wall. I do love her vivacious and spontaneous smile, but she still seems like a gum-snapping teenybopper to me.

lxv~~~Amen. If you need a galan who can make viewers forgive a mystery boink, Fernando is the man. I think that he is as charming and gracious in real life. It's hard to fake that kind of charisma. Add those dark good looks ,and you can get away with a lot.

susanlynn: AND...he's great with kids. I remember seeing a YouTube years ago that someone had compiled showing segments of several novelas in which FC interacted with children. He was increible! You would have thought they were his own niños. I went looking the other day and couldn't find it. Perhaps was removed for copyright reasons (alas)

lxv~~~Amen again !!! Every novela that Fernando appears that features children shows the affection that he has for them and the bond they have formed. A goodlooking hombre is nothing without a kind nature, intelligence , and a good sense of humor. FC has it all. [Word ID ''hotin'' ...as in FC is a hotin. !]
