Cuando Me Enamoro #67 Wednesday 7/20/11 AntiHero gets an ear full and STILL is in denyal... Storm hits and seems to make men dumber and women smarter...

AND... UNBELIEVABLE!!! who needs a mother like that???

(Recap by Marta)

review
gonzo insists with Fina and Rob that Nata has to be at the wedding... fina says lets let fate state whether nata make it... gonzo says have to talk to jero... gonzo says he is very confused about jero not telling them Rafa Gutierrez was his brother and that Rafa committed suicide (for the love of a woman, adds Matt). Berta faints... TIMMBBBEEEERRRRRRR!!!!

Nata on phone with Adri... Adri tells her what barman told her...that jero dated both women there and that Berta frequented the bar with Rafa. Nata tells her not to tell anyone, she wants to confront Berta herself.

Augie insists that they go inside cruz de amor before she leaves. Nata concerned about what Areli will think. Augie tells Nata Areli and him are over... she left for MC... he says it was better not to enlongate a relationship that was not going to work. Nata still uncomfortable, Augie say glad to do something for you. Nata says it was so hard to confront Jero... despite all the evidence, he did not have the humility to recognize he was wrong. Augie very gladly says it was not lack of humility, it was lack of love... Nata wants to change into clean clothes...

Areli with priest... Areli says she was so convinced Augie loved her. Noone loves him like she does. Father say that kind of love is not healthy... tells her she is confusing love with the need to have someone beside you... real love elevates you, makes you feel more worthy... says she is lost... she has to find herself before she finds another man. To love another you have to love yourself. Areli still asking how.. still upset. Father says take refuge in the Lord... trust him and she will find herself.

Connie on phone with Chema... he thought she was going to the Center... he insists he wants to be with her in this process. She says thank you but have to face this on my own, heal my wounds and start over again. He is sure there was something wrong already between her and her husband. He insists she has to tell Hono the truth. not fair that Hono believes she did what he REALLY did to her. She wants to just smile again some day. Chema says he will help her as long as she lets him stay around her. She says I dont feel for u what u feel for me. HE says that don't matter, just want to be near you in whatever way you will let me. She thanks him and hangs up, cries...

Once he hangs up the cell phone, Dona Cata meets with Chema... she could not help hearing the conversation. He tries to not reveal who the 'girl' was by speaking in third person. Cata says 'poor connie'... she is old but not blind. Chema does not want Coni to suffer. She says you won't be able to prevent that. He can't allow her husband to think she was unfaithful when she was... unlike him... Cata says dont ask for trouble... let me give you advise... play cleanly. Don't take advantage of Coni's weak/vulnerable moment. IF there is a chance for the two of you, time will tell.. Chema asks if she thinks so... she responds 'cuando te toca, aunque te quites, y cuando no te toca, aunque te pongas.' (if it is for you, even if you try to get out of the way, if it is not, even if you jump in the way)

Regina arrives at Ensenada... Carlos comes to pick her up. Gina immediately asks about Jero and Renata, Carlos say better go to hacienda and let Jero explain to you. She is worried already.

Augie tells Nata the flights are cancelled due to the bad weather... Nata is in a hurry to get to MC. he says she can't do anything. He says he could try to rent a private plane. We should be able to leave today. She is surprised he said 'we will leave'... she say she can go alone, he says no you can't. not in that state..

Jero drinking. remembers Nata shouting to him that the one wrong is him. Then remembers the proposal and giving her the ring, their weding night, the good times in the hacienda.. the wedding... all the happy moments and intimate moments together...

Mati and madrina keep arguing, Manuela says they love each other, Mati says it shows they DON'T, since they are not together.

Doctor checks out Roberta... says with her pregnancy the heart is very stressed... he injected a tranquilizer that will let her rest. Will expect her in his office tomorrow for more tests... Gonzo says lets let Roberta rest. She says don't worry about me. Gonzo and Mata decide to stay home from work today.

Augie comes to Nata says he could not get the plane... Nata is very anxious to get to MC. Have to unmask Berta. Can't let her keep lying to everyone and won't let her marry Matias even if she is pregnant with his baby. Augie says she wants to stop the wedding because she is interested in Matt. she says she does not want to let Berta marry Matt because she would be doing it under a lie... Augie changes strategy and now supports Nata to get to MC asap. She gets on a laptop and shows Augie a picture of Roberta. Augie remembers running into Roberta in MC at a hotel when she was asking him for Jero. He recalls Jero and Rob ate together at a restaurant where he and Nata were. Nata impactada.

She smartly concludes that Rob wanted Jero but Matias returned to MC and then Rob turned to Matias to try to marry him and get the MR fortune. Things will be very different (from what Rob plans) if she can help it.

Gina arrives at La Bonita and is trying to get Jero to open the door to his studio for her. Gina says you had told me you had forgot the vengeance, that you married Nata for love, and it turns out that is not true. What made you change your mind?

Matt is watching the weather and hears that the storm is right over Ensenada right now... and will move on north. Gonzo comes out from checking Rob... Matt tells him noone will answer phone at Ensenada or Gina... Gonzo says all they can do is pray that Gina and Nata are together and well.

Augie and Nata are more calm talking about the love of family, parents and siblings...Nata tells him Rob began hating her after they grew up. She would have loved to have a mother that loved her, like Adriana. Like Gina. Gina has never stopped looking for her daughter after she was stolen from her. She admires that unconditional unending love.

Gina asks Jero how much he knows Fina... She does not know her and does not have very good references of Fina. Nata's mom does not get along with any of the MRs. He is giving too much credit to her words... Jero says she is HER MOTHER and would never speak ill of her own daughter... Gina says mothers can make the wrong conclusions or get confused with the facts... Gina believes in the arguments of Nata... They are the arguments of a good woman, a woman in love. Not all evidences are good or accurate. In her opinion, it was Nata's mom who spoiled his soul... (YOU TELL HIM GINA!!!)

At Alfonsina's Kari arrives. The storm is right over tem... Kari brings her something she had ordered. Kari asks Alfo what Lazaro was doing with Augie's girlfriend at church. Alfo does not know. Kari admits she felt jealous... ALfo says if the jealousy is for her, forget it. Areli would never notice Lazaro. Kari says she did see something in her eyes. Alfo asks her why she married ALvaro... She would have been so much happier with Lazaro. She insists so Kari tells her she married Lazaro for a promise she made to her father (FINALLY she told someone). She promised her dad that if he survived it was because of Alvaro's care, so she married him. Affo asks 'and Lazaro accepted it?' Kari says he did because he loved me... Alfo asks Kari and what does she feel? Kari admits she has only felt real love for Lazaro. (aawwwwww...)

Alvaro and Ezeq are at his office, Alvaro asks him about Alfo and the boy... Ezeq gives him the good news about Alfo... doctor asks him to send Alfo over so he can confirm it and congratulate them... WHen Ezeq leaves, Alvaro sits at his desk and gets really stressed... remembers another doctor telling Alvaro that he can' have any children (he is sterile... this is exactly like in La Mentira 98). Alvaro says the child of Alfo's will have to be known around as mine. Want Kari to feel guilty all her life for not having been able to give me a child.

Adri thanks Conni for letting her stay. They are getting along very well, even though Connie is so sad... Adri offers her help and anything she can do for her. She is a woman and can understand what Connie is going through.

Once Adri leaves, the bell rings again. She opens the door but there is no one there. An envelope is left under the door... it was Blanca and the envelope seems to have the pictures of the hotel prank...

Meanwhile Hono and Gonzo ... Gonzo tells Hono that Connie saw him kissing Blanca at a cafeteria. Hono confesses to Gonzo that he is terrified that he is losing her. Gonzo gets irritated at him because he is really losing her and it is because he is dumb for not really knowing the woman he married (not trusting Connie)

In her bedroom Connie looks at the pictures... blanca wrote a note 'maybe he betrayed you because you could never give him a child, but I can and that is why we will raise it together'... there is a DVD of the pictures of Blanca and Hono at the hotel. (so we are catching up with technology, not paper pictures but a DVD ... and of course the texting over cell phones constantly). Connie gets really upset.

Manuela and Lazaro, she says he did well to take Areli to the Padre. Lazaro says she was completely set on jumping in. Manuela says God put you in her way. Did you decide on the 'patron''s proposal of paying for his career? No... Not all bosses would pay for your career without asking for anything in exchange... HE says he knows that but it is difficult to make a decision (seems he does not want to leave La Bonita or leave Karina unprotected)... Manuela says if you don't you will regret it. Lazaro looks out the window and says this coming storm will be very strong.

At Cruz de amor, Augie and Nata seem to be having a better time now.. he brought cold cuts (meat cutlets?), grapes, cheese and wine... She thanks him... he says its a pleasure to care for you... We will enjoy tonight... want a drink?... She says i remember last time i got drunk and it was not good... (Good for you Renata, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me) he says dont want you to get drunk... but a glass of wine wakes up the senses... toast with me. She remembers the wine harvest party with her and Jero dancing together on top of the grapes... she gets really sad...

At La Bonita, Jero is remembering that same day, but later in their bedroom and shower (more steamy stuff)...

At La Bonita they hear the church bells, Lazaro says that is the signal from town that they need anyone that can come over to help... They ask if they should tell Jero but Carlos shouts that Jero is in no condition to help anyone.. so we will leave without him. They all run out. Mati is not happy they are leaving Jero behind.
In the town church, it seems everyone from town are coming in worried and the priest is taking refugees in... Some other farm guy comes wounded that he cut his leg when trying to get out. Priest worries... Areli volunteers to help out... it is a tragedy and want to help... Priest sends her to get Dr Alvaro... this is getting out of control. He prays for God's help.

Alfo, Kari and Ezeq arrive to help out... Padre sends Ezeq to move the benches to make space..

At MR manor, Berta says feel really bad, not faking it this time. Rob seems to have abortion pains... (folds over in pain exactly as Aimee did in CS) Cries.

Coni in her bedroom caresses the pillows on the bed... the phone rings... it is Honorio but she won't answer. She cries on the pillow... At Adri's Honorio is concerned.. Adri brings him coffee... He will stay with Adri. Connie always cared for his clothes... he comments that it is incredible how life can change for you at a moment's notice... Adri says mom used to say that everything we do in live has consequences... Adri says Blanca told me that... Hono gets startled... Gets mad when he finds out Blanca told Adri that he always leaves his women and does not make long term commitments, like with her mom and Coni. Angry Hono shouts that Blanca only wants him to lose everyone that he loves...

At Rob's room she walks out of the bathroom and dumps a puddle of blood under her... Fina comes in... Rob is very freaked out and in major pain. Fina insists she has not lost her baby... CAN"T lose your baby, and least of all right now!! Rob begs her to call a doctor, she already lost the baby.. Take me to a hospital... Fina says no way, Matias and your dad will find everything out... All our plans will come crumbling down... Rob begs her to take her to a hospital... Fina keeps caressing her and insisting that if she rests the bleeding will stop... Fina says we will do what I say and noone will find out..

Gonzo outside the door asks Rob how she is doing... Fina says shut up... Fina comes out and tells him that Rob is better (LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!!)... She is just a bit stressed and her heart is weak... but with some rest she will be perfect... Gonzo says hope so... Fina says one of the things that made her fall for him was the love he feels for her daughters... she will thank him forever... well, for whatever she has left to live... Gonzo is sort of indifferent to her... once he leaves she puts a doggie face... then runs back in and yells at Rob to take a shower... Rob keeps crying begging her mom to take her to a doctor... Fina yells we have to fix the problem between the two of us... IS THAT CLEAR??? (OMG!!! who could pack Fina on a plane or canoe and dump her right into that tribe of cannibals that we saw in (Zorro la espada y la rosa) so they can skin this woman inch by inch... that is the LEAST she deserves...)

previews:
time will play a key role... against wind and storm, Nata heads to confront Berta... we see Jero go after Nata on a jeep with Mati right under the storm... but because o the storm a tree falls on their jeep...

Dicho of the Day:
Cuando te toca, aunque te quites, y cuando no te toca, aunque te pongas = if it is for you, even if you try to get out of the way; if it is not, even if you jump in the way

OMG- I'm watching my recording right now and am absolutely horrified watching Berta pale, sweating, crying, and kneeling in the pool of blood of her lost baby, while begging Fina to take her to the hospital. Yikes! What a heartbreaking and cringe-inducing scene.

I'm still waiting for the futbol game to end so I can watch, GAH!!!!

I can't help but think of Mommie Dearest when I see the scenes with Rob and Fina. How truly evil and vile to allow her daughter to go through a painful at home miscarriage. I guess once she jumps in the shower and soaps herself off she will feel much better and get on with own evil ways.

As for Jero I just want to take off my chancla and bash his cabeza with it.

Marta, thank you for such a fabulous recap of such an upsetting episode. I am still waiting too Sylvia for the copa game to be over an now they are just in post discussion phaze so I may have to go to Daily Motion but I read Marta's thorough recap so I know how awful the night is.

Thanks for fixing the posting Sylvia, how curious.

Fina is now in line for major pie carts. See you later, here comes the episdoe 40 minutes late.

Yep, talk to y'all in an hour or so.

Marta, thanks for getting the recap up so early tonight. I know you are traveling and super busy so we really appreciate it.

Now that my horror at the Fina/Berta scene has subsided a bit, I can fully comment on the recap and episode.

Thank you so much Marta for the quick and thorough recap! Two characters who have given some bad advice in the past, Padre and Cata, gave some great advice to lovelorn Arely and Chema. And Gina gave great advice to Jero. Will he listen and wise up?

Looks like the storm is going to cause all kinds of havoc- the poor people of the town left vulnerable, accidents on the road, and Nata trapped in wine country trying to get back to D.F. in time to unmask Berta. I'm glad Gina at least made it in just ahead of the storm. Her presence and good sense were needed.

Well, now we all know that the Doc was shooting blanks. But he is going to make it look like Alfie's baby is his, for his own twisted purposes. Things are about to get pretty awful for Alfie it seems.

Thank you, dear Marta for doing this super recap for all of us during your holiday! Really, really super recap!!

It was truly upsetting watching Roberta begging that despicable and wretched Fina to take her to hospital. It was sickening...absolutely sickening. I really do wonder, though, if Roberta will wake up and see the light. She is so weak of heart, mind, and soul. Will this miscarriage change things?

As for Dr. Death, our own Dr. Carlos called it. Oh my word...this man is just as sickening as Fina. He just oozes slime out of all of his pores.

Things are moving and the storm will precipitate major changes!!

Gracias, Marta!!

Susanita

P.S. Ms. Sylvia 'The Destroyer' Sharkbait!!! Love it!!!

Aha! We KNEW the doc was the one who couldn't conceive! He's so full of it, all this time making poor Kari feel she was to "blame" for not being able to have kids, that's just mean cruel and spiteful.

Constanza, can't you see that Honorio looks drugged in all those pictures? If only he had told her everything at the very beginning maybe those pictures would have supported his claim of being abused instead of incriminating him.

Oh NOOOOO...I was so hoping that the little Rafa baby would be born. This sucks.

Gosh it was hard to watch Roberta doubled over in pain, begging her mama to help and Fina refusing. How could Fina be so pragmatic while her daughter was suffering? At that moment it seemed as if Fina felt as little for Roberta as she does for Renata.

Susanita, good question. Will this episode help Roberta to see the light about Fina? I hope so.

How frustrating that Regina arrived at La Bonita just after Renata left. Damn, they just cannot seem to be able to spend time together.

Ay Yi Yi! That is one episode I never want to watch again. I may not exactly love Roberta at this point, but it was beyond understanding how cruelly she was treated by Fina. Now we know that woman is not capable of any love - for her own twisted purposes she puts her daughter thru that suffereing and no medical care. Unreal. Maybe a wake up call for Berta?

So being she's supposed to be a few months along on the pregnancy front, I guess Fina wants to jjst hurry the wedding and then deal with the consequences of Matias realizing there's no bambino. That will definitely endear Gonzo to her--stupido. Fina does not work with all cylinders running - she never thinks of repercussions.

Glad the Doc is not the father - but we know his Snakiness won't let it stop him. Man, this guy makes my skin crawl.

Thank goodness the voice of reason has arrived and Jeers what the doufus should have realized himself. I mean the light bulb has got to go on so the arduous task of winning Nata back can begin.

Bummer - no episode tonight.

Marta, this was superb! Razor sharp wit and commentary "(Good for you Renata, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me)..." and "once he leaves she puts a doggie face" were my favorites. This was such an eventful episode, you clarified all of the scenes perfectly.

Vivi and Sylvia, I agree that Roberta was heart wrenching. Fina is a monster beyond belief.

Nata was a blaze of fury, finally fueled by Jero's flames of deceit and treachery. Ack.

I'm in my own little world where I am completely discarding who Auggie really is. I loathe Jero and I think Nata and Auggie have real chemistry. I know it's the wrong match but Jero past the point of redemption with me long ago.

Diana

I’m really starting to worry about the heart conditions of the girls. It seems that as they were growing up they didn’t have cardiac incidents, but both have started having them now that they are in their 20s. And it seems Berta’s pregnancy has put more strain on her heart. Will getting pregnant do the same to Nata? Stress (and heartache) seem to be the triggers. Will the fact that Nata (since she grew up not knowing she had a heart condition) has always been more physically active help or hurt her in the long run? I think it will help her. While Berta has never done anything but lay around having people do everything for her. Her heart, like her personality, is weaker.

Good Morning Cap'n. and Amigos! Thank you so much, I haven't read it yet, I know it and the episode were excellent, I've only seen half my tape. It's a kinder, gentler Lila this morning, thus begins my efforts to redeem our galan myself. I know he and Renata will be together. So, taking a page from Robey's book in her straightforward and sensible defense of Connie: Jeronimo had a Sainted Mother. I recall the scene where he and Rafa wailed inconsolably at her death, she was the salt of the earth. He has absolutely no psychological or emotional schema which allows him to conceive of a "mother" as cynical, calculating, ruthless, murderous and hateful as Fina. Not only is she guilty of all the aforementioned nefarious nastiness but she is a total child abuser. Jero (notice I didn't call him Jerko) just (as we used to say back in the day) CAN'T GET TO THAT! So. I'm not there yet in liking, Gina is trying to talk some sense into him and I'm trying to understand: Motherhood as the fountainhead of character and the emotional center of the family is an important theme in this story. Adri and Jero had such a Mother, Gina has one and longs to be such a Mother for her stolen hija, and of course Renata longs for such a Mother. Fina is so perverse but craftily hides behind the mask of Mother and the trust it bestows to manipulate and even murder to get her way. Jero just can't conceive of this.

Phew! Okay. I'll watch the rest of the episode and see if I can maintain this new 'tude towards our dude, Jeronimo.

Lila

Lila, I used to be a moderator on a (children of) toxic parents forum because I had a toxic mother myself. It was interesting -- but not surprising -- to note that most of the members had best friends and significant others who had toxic parents. The few who didn't all reported that their SOs Just Didn't Get It.

One discussion topic I therefore initiated was to identify famous fictional toxic parents. The Mother thread was three times the length of the Father thread. This was meant to provide illustrations for people who were involved with those lucky enough to have normal parents as in "My mother was exactly like Amanda in The Glass Menagerie" or whatever.

Nobody on that forum was Hispanic and I was the only novela viewer. I did recommend that anyone who studied Spanish in school start viewing them, though.

Marta, what a great job you've done with such a difficult episode.

Up until last night, I considered Fina an inept bumbling lightweight. I even felt a bit of sympathy for her situation. I was so wrong. This lady pretty well pegged the evilmometer lat night. I can't recall a more hideous monster in a TN. Even the most unfeeling stranger would have reacted the way she did.

What is most sad is that Roberta still trusts her. Why didn't she cry out when Gonzo came to the door? Why didn't Gonzo burst in?

Bless your heart Lila... you have really taken on a daunting task. My client (Matilde) is spoiled and unpopular... yours (Jerónimo) is a raving lunatic... good luck.

What... oh what... could Alfie have ever seen in this miserable tangle of defective genetic strands?

How cozy... Renata and Augie are curling up with a nice bottle of wine, fresh fruit, selected cheeses, and cold cuts, while the rest of Hooterville battles the storm.

Meanwhile, Jerry pouts and Matilde frets?

Lila, we've got our work cut out for us.

Carlos

Love the title and really appreciate you giving us another wonderful recap, Marta, while on vacation. AND THE DICHO IS GREAT! Will write it down and hopefully use it one day when I'm less tongue-tied.

Horrified at last night's scene. I've had a miscarriage and it's very painful (at least mine was). Just like labor, but with no happy ending. And there needs to be a D & C and medical attention to make sure there is no hemorrhaging (sp?)

At this point, I'm actually fearing for Roberta's life. As overly dramatic as that sounds, the ominous music and Fina's attitude seem so foreboding.

Carlos...if something went wrong, could she actually lose too much blood and...with heart condition...die?

On a more trivial note, I was horrified that Fina had her sit down on that white couch while bleeding. That stain will NEVER come out. (sorry, having a housewife moment here.)

Judy,

In a word... yes.

I can't stop laughing about your last paragraph.

Carlos

Tuesday’s ep:

Thanks everyone for the kind words from Monday ep’s comments. I’m wondering if when we get on this site and comment/analyze character motivations to the degree that we do, it might just help us understand/deal with people in the real world. Of course, it’s always easier to look in from the outside than to be in the midst of a situation.

Kelly: So agree with you here: “Alf. is being punished for being a bratty Gardenia in MEPS. Novela-karma.” :)

Catching up on past recaps and thought this was appropriate for any ep. “the music has a fit about it.”

Wednesday’s ep:

You know how we were saying that Fina was kind of a bleh villain. After what that MONSTER did to her own daughter, I don’t think that we can say that anymore. I thought she loved her daughter somewhat. I thought there was a moment in one of the earlier eps when Renanta was talking to her that she showed a little bit like she was affected. She must have just had gas. This woman loves no one. She is empty. Spooky, supernatural, freaky deaky empty. Ugh!!!!

Is Dirtbag Doc’s revenge because he knows Kari loves Laz and only married him because of her promise to her father?

In the previews, it looks like Rob does contract a fever.

Lila, thanks for the shout out re: Coni, but I don't know that I feel that way about Jero--unless, and I can't recall--the info he has about Fina's treatment of Renata is something she told him (and he'd think she was lying). If he's seen Fina in action, it's hard for me to believe that he can completely discount what Ren is telling him.

Robey

They sure didn't shy away from blood and gore re the miscarriage!

Yep, Fina doesn't love Roberta either!

Audrey

There's a woman for Antonio, since he ain't dead yet! Arely formerly known as Spare Girl. Just the ticket! A nice healing love.
Enjoying the Recaps and Comments so much. Thank you all.
And yep, I clutched hand to chest at blood in a room with white setee?!

I hated the Rob/Fina scene; invoked too many bad memories. Great acting by both Roberta and Fina...really hate Fina!

My favorite scene was when Lazaro told Areli that if she jumped off the cliff, he would have to jump after her; and then he made that priceless face like "what did I just say?"

I wonder how long Renata is going to be stuck at Augie's. I hope they don't end up in a private plane during the hurricane because we know where that will lead.

Marta thank you for a wonderful recap of a difficult episode.

Wow so we laern Dr. Rapey can't have children but he's still going to not only torture Karina but Alfosina about her pregnancy. seems like he forgot the Ezeke factor and how a husband reacts when he learns his wife has cheated on him huh?

Fina we learn is truly a monster to just stand there and tell her own flesh and blood not to reveal she is losing her baby because it will ruin her plans. This woman really is horrible.Very disturbing scene of Roberta having her miscarriage.

Batty Blanca trying to come onto Hon in his office was not only creepy to watch but frightening that her girls might pop out as she tried to lean over him making her moves. Gag! What a awful image.

Three cheers for our girl Renata who has had enough with Jerko and his lies.It looks like what i said is coming true the race to stop Roberta from marrying Matias.Loved her when she told him off and packed her stuff and moved out and threw his rings at him. What was even better seeing Auggie outside waiting to pick her up. So in your face jerk. If he had any brains regardless how he thinks all mother should be they aren't. He would look into how Fina has raised and treated Renata.

So glad she had her sidekick follow up and find out that Roberta was seeing Rafael behind everyone's back. Jerko's actions and his deception during their marriage is going to comeback to haunt him. Once Renata finds out about Roberta supposedly being pregnant by Jerko. How can she trust and believe in him again?

Marta, I apologize for not thanking you earlier. Thank you so much my Dear. Just read your wonderful and detailed cap and finished my tape.

Oh. My. Gosh! What a psycho-sociopathic, narcissistic wretch is Fina! I can't think of anything worse to call her without cussin' like a sailor! It takes a lot to feel sorry for Roberta but like so many of you, I did! My word! What a miserable bitch Fina is!

Urban, your description of your work with families of toxic Mothers was very insightful, thanks for helping me in this (beyond dauting Carlos!) task of trying to clean up Jero's image! Several of you, including me, said he would not believe Renata even when the tree was presented. Jeronimo(she swallowed hard, accustomed as she was to verbally assaulting him at every opportunity) truly cannot be expected to fathom the depths of evil that inspires Renata's "mother." But a seed of doubt has been planted and will indeed soon bear fruit. (Sounds a little namby-pamby doesn't it, but I'm trying Robey).

Now. Someone may have said this, I've only quickly glanced at comments and plan to read them in detail later. Now. What if Renata gets to D.F., finds Roberta sick as a dog on deaths door, intervenes to save her and Roberta becomes her ally in unmasking the vicious, vile Fina?

I must say, I did not expect her to lose the baby. Let's keep talking guys, there's no show tonight and this is getting good!

Lila

Lila- I'll buy into your premise that Jero just has no framework to begin to fathom a mother who could hate her daughter so much. The thing is, even if he can't explain to himself why Fina would lie (or have been so mistaken), he should have faith in Nata. Having faith means believing unconditionally in something despite other evidence that might not jive. Having been emotionally and physically intimate with Nata, he should know by now her true character and nature. Despite not understanding Fina's motives, he should have faith in the Nata he knows.

I know that I will probably end up liking Jero a lot by the end, and I don't loathe him like some do. But boy, I really wanted to slap him silly in the last episode as he kept denying every piece of evidence Nata brought foward and kept dragging her around the house trying to get her to confess. I am so glad our heroine isn't some wilting wimp, but got all up in his face telling him off. I so loved when she flung those rings at him and marched off with her suitcases and head held high.

Vivi, you're right, this was exactly my argument a few days ago: how could a man share the most intimate moments possible with a woman and then be so uncertain of the level of her integrity? Thus my penchant for tossing smirks and curses at him - but I'm trying to rehab my man. It's really tough, Vivi, because his treatment of his last girlfriend was evidence of a total lack of empathy and a chilling ability to turn his emotions off like a light switch!

Ditto your last paragraph Vivi!! I feel ya, I really feel ya. I just hope they don't do this to a galan again. I know they need new devices to keep the leading lovers apart, to build up longing and dramatic sexual tension: Leading Lady as Virgin til the wedding at the end. . .we know that doesn't work anymore; they've tried impotence; marriage to other women, so now the device is they are kept apart by misunderstandings, even "hatred" -- no me gusta!! Jero IS a piece of work. Gina's words are a start and maybe we can turn Fina loose on his arse. . .then he'll see the light!

Lila

Vivi, I agree that Jero should know Nata well enough by now. I know some others commented on why Jero was stubborn about it--how it might be that he was too "macho" to admit he could be so (horribly) wrong. And that may be it. If he's wrong, he's treated the woman he loves abominably and how does he make that right.

Lila, seems like a lot of seeds have been planted and he keeps digging them up and destroying them. Mr. Denial to the Nth Degree. Someday I hope he'll deserve our Nata.

Robey

My dear Dr. Carlos, in all sincerity, what did you find in Fina/Pepa that generated sympathy? She has been so abhorrent to me from the beginning.

You are an astute reader of character. I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

Susanita

Lila- I'm just glad they gave us a good heroine we can really root for.

Last few heroines:
Valentina in STUD: Too volatile (literally starting fires) and did not use her brain to reason most times.
Maria D in TDA: Just kind of blah.
Mari in Llena: Combination of last two (blah and incapable of reasoning).
Teresa in Teresa: Love her, but she is a bitchy anti-heroine. In the end, I want karma to get her.
Ale in Dinero: Loved her, she was smart, fun and funny, but she could also be an unreasonable bitch at times.
Lu in Mi Pecado: I liked her, but she didn't have a ton of personality (maybe this is just a Maite P. thing), and I wanted her to stand up for herself more.

Thank you Marta for your great detailed recap. Wow! I previously suspected that Fina left the factory early; but now I know she left before her heart could be installed. I think that she got pregnant with Roberta soley to use her as a pawn to achieve and maintain wealth. Consequently, nothing will stop her from maintaing that goal not even a "small thing" like her grandchild's life. Still on Jero's side(thanks Lila for a very gracious defense)He put a lot of effort into planning this revenge and just can't accept that he could be wrong. Remember, he also fell for "la bonita" even though he knew what she did to his brother, compound that with the professional smear job that Fina did on Renata. I can see why he would be reluctant to believe Renata because if she is la bonita then she's very good at manipulating men. Kudos to all who nailed Dr. RS as shooting blanks.
Tasha

Yah, I hope this new trend toward more "modern" plot lines is not going to leave us with the kind of wreckage in Leading Ladies Vivi mentions above and Galans like our Jeronimo here where one or two people flail fiercely, their backs against the wall, at the (justifiably) torch-carrying lynch mob of fellow Caray fans ready to rip him limb from limb! Can't be good for the digestive tract at dinner time either, dern it!

Lila (Hmmm. . word verification "trashan")

Vivi: I've only watched two other TNs: MEPS and STuD I have to agree re: Valentina. In MEPS, I really liked Fernanda (and like SN in this one, too). And wasn't Lu a great villain in MEPS.

Robey

I got to see only 15 minutes of last night's episode because my machine didn't understand that there was a futbol game going on at 7:00. Que pena! So I was REALLY glad to have the resumen of last night's episode. Muchas gracias!

Marta, thanks for the excellent recap. Loved the title.

This episode was so hard to watch. I too felt so awful for Roberta. And Judy, Mike and I also cringed when Fina made her sit on the white sofa. Whassa matter with these people? Well, servants for one. If you don't have to clean anything (and you're Fina) what difference does a huge mess make?

I agree with the comments about Jero - he's an idiot but at least he has met his match in Renata.

Dr. Death, go out in the storm, look up and open your mouth. Drown, please, now!

Oh Vivi, good call on Roberta "her heart, like her personality are weaker" And doesn't she lie around in her jammies so much. Even just lies around at the club looking fetching but ultimately useless. Nothing there to really grab onto in her personality and Fina has made her so misguided about her own worth and entitlement. But Fina is really losing it more each day as she tuirns on the only person she supposedly cares for by denying her emergency care. One wonders if she will force Rob to go through with the wedding actually sick. Let's hope Renata can get through on the phone if nothing else to put Matias on guard until the real truth about the baby's age comes out.

Judy, I can't stop laughing about your white couch moment either, but you are SO right. Oh and thank you for your very kind ocmments on my Monday recap. Such words coming from you especially mean so much. I am having so much fun with this round in CME and am I ever grateful that I did not get this 67th episode. I've had a miscarriage too and I can't imagine not being rushed to the hospital to be sure some kind of sepsis or too much blood loss didn't make it critical. They are really trying to get our attention by the scary drama of itall, no?

Robey I agree with your insights about fictional drama's in general. We can look at arms length about things we have felt or at least seen and examine the possibilities and outcomes as sthe emotions, actions and character developments are elevated and universalized for us.

I don't know about you guys but I have been worrying about Roberta all day. Is she going to be OK?!?!?!??? I don't peek ahead so please don't tell me but I can't believe I have to wait until Friday night (well Sat morning actually) to watch the next episode. I simply cannot imagine any mother ignoring her daughter's pleas. And I'm still pithed off about Rafito; there goes my theory about the Rafa's progeny inheriting the hacienda. Darn it.

Judy, you killed me with your white couch comment. You're too funny amiga.

Why is Blanca still creeping around work and why doesn't Honorio show her texts to HR? This is blatant sexual harassment.

Sylvia, I think like you that Honorio is being unbelievably naive, what the hay with letting her run riot until the end of the month. They don't do that here because of all the real postal events but I can't believe in modern day Mexico in a sophisticated empressa they woudl tolerate Blanca's behavior. And doesn't anyone in Honorio's house or office have locks. Here's an idea: Blanca should go start visiting Fina who would zap her pronto. We could tie up two monsters with one piece of rope so to speak.

The one thing that still has me puzzled is this: Who IS Batty Blanca and why was Honorio her 'mark'? Maybe we have discussed this and I have missed something in the discussion or in the TN itself, but this woman ( who is looking more and more androgynous to me by the minute) shows up and sets her sights on Hon...WHY?

Susanita

P.S. I am SO tempted to watch ahead on Daily Motion...but...I won't...I won't...I won't.

Yes WHY? We don't know Blanca's motives except that she's BATTY. I swear I would watch ahead except I have so many other things to do. (Ahem...like watching today's episode of Alborada for example.)

Cheryl, I love your idea about trapping the two gatas in one bag. Let them scratch their way out of that one. I still half expected Fina to end up being responsible for Batty's appearance but she didn't give anything away when she heard about Hons and Cons. So we are left still wondering...

Ok Cap'n...good to know that I haven't missed something in the interim.

Honestly, her face is looking creepier and darker by the moment. I don't even want to look at her face! I also worry for Con's safety. She'd better start locking her doors. I don't think she is safe in that house. I also think that the Batty one has no qualms about using force on Con.

Susanita

Wouldn't that be a crazy twist if Blanca turned out to be a HE? She does kind of look kind of transgender. I suppose they would have discovered it during the background check. You're right Susanita, Batty has already pushed Coni around and even acted like she was going to strangle her that one time.

Cap'n Sylvia: Yes...it would be huge if she were a man! Of course, it doesn't look that way, but her face is becoming less and less feminine. She was downright scary when she was standing in front of Con's house.

Why is 'Stanza leaving the door unlocked!? Wonder if she will start locking her doors now.

Susanita

It just occurred to me that the reason this Rocio person won the Premio for the best antagonist actor had to be on the basis of this miscarriage scene alone. Helmet Head (am blanking on her name!) from STuD was one actriz up for the award, but she never did anything on STuD that even came close to this horrible scene.

This was truly a horribly sickening scene.

What will the payback be for UGLY Fina?

Susanita

Susanita- Yes, I am starting to see why Rocio won best villainess over Jacqueline A. (STUD) and Azela R. (Llena). I was actually quite scared for Nata the other day when Fina looked at the photo of her and Berta and told Nata's image that she will crush her if she gets in the way of her plans for her real daughter. Given that Nata is trying to get back to DF to stop the wedding and unmask Berta, she might be put at the top of Fina's murder list, ahead of target #1 Gina.

Good Morning, Y'all! Fina is truly a sociopath, I have no doubt she would kill anyone, especially Renata if she got in her way. Even though it wasn't the same actress, the scene when she first kidnapped Renata was chilling for me: She gave Roberta a bottle of milk and left Renata on the floor with a bottle of water. If not that the baby looked unfazed and even a little happy it would have been worse. But I thought in her own sick way she loved Roberta but remember she told Roberta that pregnancy was a great way to manipulate a man. Roberta has never been anything but a tool. If she were to die, I'm sure Fina would immediately figure a way to turn a buck with her death, make herself the victim and everyone else sick with guilt!

And BattyBlaaaaanca I think lives in her own parallel universe where she can sexually possess and dominate any man she chooses. She's enjoying the threat factor as well, I'm sure she'd move on if Hon broke up with Con for good and wanted to be with her. And yes, that would be uber bold, creative AND a shock if BattyBootyBlanca was a man!

Lila

Susanita, it's not that I ever liked Pepa/Fina. From the beginning she did some pretty bad stuff, although the deaths of both Roberto and Rafa were not intended and largely accidental. I felt that Gonzo treated her unfairly. After all, he must have had some idea of her character when he married her and then decided that since he wasn't in love anymore and had met Regina, that he would just dump her. At that time (and even now) he didn't realize (as we do) what a treacherous woman she really is.

Carlos

Vivi: ITA re the scene you describe. Fina's naked hatred (for that is what it is) of Nata in that scene was very disturbing.

Lila: The scene you describe and the cutting of Nata's braids was so much for me, that I walked away from CME for almost a month. Those were very real and upsetting scenes of child abuse. It was simply too hard for me to watch. I told myself I would 'come back' when the girls were adults.

Dr. Carlos: Ah yes...I definitely see your excellent point. In fact, I have found myself wondering what Gonzo saw in Fina to make him want to marry her.

Has Gonzo always been in somewhat of a fog about Fina? Matias left his home to go to Spain to get away from her. He has made no secret of his feelings about Fina. Has Gonzo never acknowledged that?

So, Fina's initial plan in visiting Rafa was to threaten him only? Was it just to tell him to stay the heck away? Was this because Fina had set her mind on marrying Roberta off to Matias all along?

It amazes me that Fina thinks she is just going to 'wish away' Roberta's symptoms with this miscarriage. Let's start with the practical stuff: how will she explain the blood in the bathroom. Obviously, from the way Fina looked at that pool of blood, there was no way she would dirty her hands by cleaning it up.

Then, there is the matter of that white couch! OY! Like all of you, I nearly went crackers when Roberta sat on that couch! Interesting that there was so much 'white' in that scene. Roberta's white lingerie; white floor, and the WHITE couch! Oh my...these writers are good...very good, indeed. So much white in the presence of Fina's evil Blackness.

So much to ponder...so much.

Susanita

Your'e right, there was a lot of white in that scence. I think the writers/director wanted it that way. The image of that scene gets burned into the brain, doesn't it?

Speaking of colors, I've noticed that a few of the characters have signature colors.

Berta is often in bright purple or fuchia. Fina tends to be in dark purple, dark blue, black or grey. Connie is always in pink, or beige/cream. Selene is always in baby blue or aquamarine blue. Gina tends to be in earth tones, same as Nata. But Nata sometimes has pops of red or orange when she is feeling her best.

I had wondered how Gonzo for all his years with Fina had managed to ignore or downplay Fina's negative treatment of Renata. Especially when his own son left because she mistreated him. Other than treating the girls equally he should have been protecting Renata because she needed protection.
But maybe Gonzo was very self involved. I think he is a selfish man in many of the same ways as Jero.

Very interesting comments, especially having to do with the Gonzo and Fina relationship.

Bonney, I wouldn't be surprised if Gonzo used work as his escape. It is a very successful business and he probably spent as much time as he could there. He is closer to Renata than anyone else in the immediate family, except Matias of course, and Renata is the one who chose to work with him. Fina and Roberta, on the other hand, chose not to work, therefore know little of the business, didn't see as much of Gonzo and seem to be on their own team.

Honorio is also much closer to Renata; he worked with her, has seen her work ethic and success in the company. Both he and Constanza have seen the girls grow, one is a hard worker and dotes on her daddy, the other is a slacker who, like mom, acts like the world owes her.

Both Gonzo and Jero are extremely successful businessmen. That kind of success often takes a certain amount of self-involvement and focus.

Vivi: yes...that white was burned into my brain. Also agree with your colour schemes that represent each character. There is so much to this TN. I have not seen this in some time. I wish TdA could have been written like this. To think what some of those actors could have done!

Ms. Sylvia Sharkbait: ITA re your thoughts on the business focus of both Gonzo and Jero. These are the types of men who are so involved in their work lives that they miss the obvious at home. It seems that it often takes an earth shattering event to get the obvious through their heads.

Susanita

Aaahhh yes Gonzo's world. I think I see why Gonzo does not see the hypocracy of giving Matias fatherly advice that Renata is 'not for him forget about her' while he himself pursues a woman engaged to another man. And telling Matias to honor his duty while he himself is a married man wooing another woman.
I'm hoping something shows him the light.

But Jero's self centering world had the makings of an cruel abuser. He seems unable to forgive his previous woman and now Renata. His 'love instinct' says I'll bring her horse and then she will come back to me/ stay and I can continue to destroy her. Now that's an abuser if I ever heard of one! Substitute any word for horse and it is the same old tv news story.
I'm hoping Renata comes to the conclusion that she does not even know this man. And then Jero can begin to examine himself and prove himself.

Been following the great recaps and insightful comments while I had company, especially the whys regarding Gonzo still being with Fina.

Poor Gonzo. A bit of a wimp in his early days.

Even Fina has remarked that it was his care and interest in the girls that made her "fall in love" with him (to her advantage, of course). Even today, a young, attractive (remember it was Margarita Maganez who played the young Fina), single woman with children has a harder time finding a suitable mate. With Fina on her best behavior, it wasn't hard to see why Gonzo would fall for her.

Gonzo had the money and the social position she craved and hadn't gotten from Roberto. After marriage, Fina had to make sure that nothing rocked her floating bank boat.

Renata, knowing no other treatment, considered Fina's parenting as normal while she was very small. Like many abusers, the victim is made to feel like she is at fault and mustn't tell anyone about it.

Adri, Hon and Connie and Gonzo all showed her a side of nurturing friend and adults she'd never had.

We saw in the run up to Ren's wedding that she and Gonzo were especially tight--another reason for Fina and Rob to hate her.

All this time, Fina has been thinking about Roberto's inheritance. I agree that she went to LaBonita to threaten Rafa, without premeditated murder in mind because she wanted Rob to marry Mat.

Fina will become more evil and dangerous as she loses control over her long-range plan. This is what we saw in her late night visit to Jero to poison his mind, her unoperable tumor, her continued verbal abuse of Renata over the phone and her devious plan to pin the nasty on Mati--all to insure her position and wealth. (I'm surprised she didn't poison Gitana before she was transferred to LaBonia.)

I think Gonzo's eyes straying to Regina upped the ante. If it had been anyone else, she probably would have been happy with a huge settlement, but because it was Regina, of all people, she must quash it--this time with murder on her mind.

Someone here said she acts first and then tries to clean up any consequences that come back at her. So far she's done a good job, but the treatment of Roberta's miscarriage was about as low as anyone can sink.
NOK

Ay dios mio! I miss a night and all infierno breaks loose!

Fina has crossed the line twice. Not only was she a vindictive attempted murderer but now she's putting her daughter's life at risk solely for selfish gain. Fina's plan won't work without the baby but HOW does she expect it to work if Roberta dies? Despicable.

Blanca finally strikes with those pictures of hers. Now both Hon and Coni have "incriminating" pictures of the other. Hopefully the ones Blanca took can be used as evidence of date rape because Hon looks zonked in every one of them. Poor Coni already had reason to fear the worst, so of course she didn't notice.

Lila, I love your analysis of Jero and Blanca. You're probably right about why Jero never doubts Fina. I don't think he has ever seen Fina's cruelty in action; he only has Nata's word on it. And whatever hazy motivations Blanca has, I bet you're right that if Honorio were a free agent the fun would be over for Blanca. She seems to delight in torturing Coni just as much as she delights in slobbering all over Hon.

Vivi, I've noticed a few of those color schemes too! I like the creativity of it. Each color reflects individual personality of the characters. Regi and Nata tend to be very "down to earth", Berta and Fina have dark sides to their shiny exteriors, and Coni is light and sweet though maybe a tad naive. Compliments to the writers/designers for that one!

Amy

Amy- These writers are the same ones that were on En Nombre de Amor, and many of those characters, especially the villain, had signature colors too. It's effective; it does make a subtle impact on the viewer. It took me a long time to just see purple as purple after Tia Carlota.

Here's a nice video compilation of the significant loving (and not so loving) moments of our couple so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_Gz5xZSgac&feature=related

Bonney: "I'm hoping Renata comes to the conclusion that she does not even know this man. And then Jero can begin to examine himself and prove himself." I would really like it to go that direction.

NOK: loved your insights.

Will Roberta fake being pregnant (a la Nicole in DAYS)? Not so feasible in real life, but not so out there for a soap or TN.

Robey

Robey,

"Will Roberta fake being pregnant (a la Nicole in DAYS)?"

I'm afraid that following Fina's misguided instructions, Roberta may have her hands full simply staying alive.

Carlos

So aside from the problem Fina will have collecting an inheritance if her daughter (the one she actually LIKES) dies, how would faking a pregnancy help? I mean, wouldn't that be pretty good grounds for annulment, and then making the (altered) prenup invalid? And if someone is checking on these legal issues, see what kind of case Honorio has against Blanca.

Op, just realized. Roberta, if she lives, will fake a miscarriage after the wedding. Still should be grounds for annulment.

NOK, Amy and everyone who has commented today, what thoughtful, piercingly insightful comments, WOW! I can't wait for tonight's show, the cap and more fun and focused comments! Bonnie, your analysis of Jero is right on and really is demonstrative of the feelings he awakens in viewers. His hypocrisy and self-righteous insistence on "his women" living according to HIS truth is indeed the source of the dark cruelty he showed Renata. Only a deep SELF-analysis (because he would never accept the word of the OBJECT of his love) can lead him to see the errors of his ways. Not a loveable or even likeable galan but we've got a lot of episodes for him to try to get his act together.

Lila

Carlos: “I'm afraid that following Fina's misguided instructions, Roberta may have her hands full simply staying alive.” Good point!!!

Kelly: Duh on me. Does seem more likely that she would fake a miscarriage afterwards. Agree it’s grounds for an annulment, but probably wouldn’t see that happen until the ultimos semanas. However, this TN does give us some big reveals on a regular basis.

Lila: “Not a loveable or even likeable galan but we've got a lot of episodes for him to try to get his act together.” So true.

Robey

Really running late on viewing this. I am just sick about Roberta. When I very first started watching the show and reading your re-caps one of the guys posted that he thought Roberta was actually very pretty when she smiled. My thought at the time was Estas loco? I just despised her. But now.... I feel so bad I can't intervene and run her to the E.R. I no longer dislike Roberta. I truly pity her having that horrendous Fina for a mom. I do hope she see's Fina for who she is and is the one to surmise that Fina killed Rafael.
I am so glad I was running behind in watching. How were you all able to stand missing the next episode last night?
-Rosemary la Otra

By forming a support and psycho-social analysis group, Rosemary La Otra, which I, personally, have quite enjoyed! I tried to cheat on episode this episode, but only found parts 1 and 2 out of 4. Serves me right for trying to cheat!

Lila

Ah my Lila...I too was tempted to cheat but when Sylvia said she wasn't going to watch, I decided I would hang tough too. But I agree that the extended analysis of the characters and their motivations has been a great way to wait together for the next episode. Very interesting and thoughtful observations on the part of all.

thanks for all the comments on the recap. believe it or not i typed it all (almost except for the snark) real time while watching at my brothers.
Linda, ITA agree on Lazaro's faces while he was saving Areli from jumping in...esp when he told her she could not jump in because if she did he would have to jump right after her, and then he looked down at the water down there and made a gesture like 'oh sh___ what did I just say?'

Judy, LOVED your white sofa catch... ITA on all the comments regarding that 'white' scene and Fina being a villain out of this world esp as a mother... not sure why Rocio B won the award over Azela R, I thought Azela deserved it... but if Rocio earned it it must have been thanks to this scene... NASTY!!!.
at least things are moving along pretty fast...
will post again when I get home. right now at a motel in Gulfport Mississippi.
