Cuando Me Enamoro #69 Monday 7/25/11 Not All Storms End, Some Loves And At Least One Lover Are Still On The Rocks

Review: Augie tries to defend his “rich guys do-nothing attitude,” which isn’t making Renata’s breakfast go down any easier. Adriana advises Matias that he is the most optimistic person she knows of to be marrying someone he doesn’t love or even know well for the sake of a baby.

Chema and Cons plan by phone that they will meet to clarify a few things, Honorio comes in wanting to ask questions, He can’t sleep and not because his infidelity but because of his jealousy over Consta’s interest in another man. Go figure, hmmm?

Gonzo says it isn’t convenient for Balaaaaanca to stay until the end of the month and he has decided that she must go by the end of the month. She can’t believe they don’t Waaaant her for the rest of the month

Renata gets an earful about the valiant gestures by Jeronimo. Ezekiel has to tell Renata that the village all helped each other at the church and Jero was a true hero even though it is now too late for Renata to make up for ignoring the alarm bells and spending the night as Ms. RichBeach in Augie’s snug mansion. The crisis is now past.

Regina takes over Carlos' care and orders him to bed or she will strap him down. Matilde echos the command to cooperate or else. Jero has had a thump on the head and decides that Renata must have been telling the truth and he just can’t be without her. He doesn’t know why he didn’t believe her at first but now he needs to bath and go tell her.

Blanca calls Honorio a coward for letting Gonzo be the one to tell her that this is her last day. She can’t believe he didn’t defend her so she can stay. I can’t believe she is continuing with this loco line of thinking. She sure does a good ugly scowl.

Chema tells Consta that the photos of them greeting each other in the park were sent to Honorio by Roberta and Selene probably helped even though she denies all of it. Chema says he has no proof but is sure they did it to hurt her and Honorio and to pressure him.

The doctor tells Fina that Roberta glowers from the bed that Roberta is a bit better considering she lost so much blood. Fina menaces, “and the other (now would that would be DEAD BABY or ETERNAL STERILITY??). Let’s see, Doc picks the later and says she’s not sure yet. It’s not looking good however. Roberta, who by the way is looking so much more innocent without all the power-to-the-sluts makeup, (I’m just sayin’ here folks. Sorry, where was I) Roberta says it is all Fina’s fault that she may be sterile. Fina makes sure Roberta appreciates her genius that will deliver Roberta a rich husband and a life of luxury, only her, how about a little gratitude for super mom here, snotnose. . While Roberta acknowledges that she doesn’t want to forgo this pleasant future (lying out by the club pool, reapplying makeup, avoiding toil and thought) is so sad that she may never be able to be a mother. Fina who finally shows what great mothering is all about, says she is sorry. Roberta rejects her attempted maternal kiss.

Regina brings Carlos clean sheets (for bandages?) and they discuss that Jero has dashed off on a tear. Jero is indeed off on a tear and we see small parts of the river bank breaking off into the turbulent river while Renata and Augie drive and argue about having not helped the pueblo in the storm. (This has got to be some kind of foreshadowing of one of Renata’s future thought process). Renata tells Augie how the village now adores Jero for his kind offer of housing and help to all who were devastated by the storm. Claws gripping the steering wheel, Augie can’t believe she has any feelings for that rat Jero.

The big cars approach on opposite sides of the rivercreek and Jero tries to come down the river bank Augie is not going to stop the car but Renata insists. She get out. Jero screams that he loves her. As she listens to what he is screaming to her, they see a big waterfall, mudslide sweep Jero away. Augie’s only reaction is to keep Renata from rushing to Jero’s side. Renata tries to run down the slope to a quickly vanishing Jero but is stopped by Ezekiel and Augie both grabbing at her arms, idiots.

Dr. Drinkmuch surveys his swamp of an office with chagrin. He postures for nurse Elsa, We have to keep appointments and attend to the people. We’ll have to get a new clinic space. She says after last night there isn’t much of a practice. Jero and Regina were saving everyone so for his drunkenness the whole town will reject him. He argues in ever so slurred voice, what’s one night of a little drinking? It’s not only one night, further the rumor in town is that you operated on Rafael drunk and therefore he died. Elsa is ordered out. But, she says you can’t kick me out, I quit. He upturns the desk, flings papers and office supplies to further enhance the swamp decor. He sits down to drink a big swig from the bottomless hip flask.

At the hospital, Inez and Andrecito have cell phones to use as walky-talkies for a mother and child reunion through the observation glass sending kisses. Inez’ game face is much more cheerful now. Andrecito wants out he doesn’t want to be here, he is afraid. (maybe he smells Fina’s evil) Dad assures him he will be there but Adrecito repeats, no I want out of here. Mom says you have to stay here until the crisis is past. Don’t surrender and Dad repeats the family refrain, here no one surrenders. They look hopeful. I’m worried now.

Antonio with his bull face on is not looking so hopeful. He sits in his clothes but is still in his hospital room (what time is check out anyway) he and Doña Cata worry about having not heard from Regina after the storm. He worries that he sent her out of town to get her out of danger and yet has sent her into worse dangers perhaps. Doña Cata isn’t sure if the assassination threat is worse. Should we be worried that she calls him son all the time?

Back at the church, Kari has decided to look for room at the Alfonsina Inn and begs to be taken in while she figures out what to do. Dr. Drinky isn’t going to reform after all she concludes. Alfonsina worries about whether Augie will permit her to stay. Kari doesn’t want more rejection form Lazaro who is standing right next to them and seems to ignore the conversation. Alfonsina will ask Augie. She wants to be a better friend even though she hasn’t been a good one. In spite of everything she love her. Kari puzzles, in spite of what? Just as Kari probes for what Alfonsina means, a man arrives to announce that Jero has been swept away. End of confession hour at the church… Kari, Alfonsina, Lazaro and the Padre all surge out toward the missing Jero.

Augie and Ezek are busy holding Renata back, as they scream, she sees Jero, Augie is more concerned about controlling her (this isn’t a good precedent dude, trust me). Augie orders Ezek to go get a rope. Jero is on the rocks but above water. Augie just holds Renata back some more without even looking toward Jero much as he bobbles in the rushing water like a fishing lure.

Inez talks with the Doctor that Andrecito has to stay intent on his improvement and survival but is pressing to go home. The doctor agrees to examine him again. His improved determination is a good sign. And leaves Inez just as she sees Fina in the lobby looking for coffee. She casually asks a passing nurse, who is that woman, I know her but just can’t think of her name… The young nurse offers, she is Sra. Monterrubio. Oh yes, Inez has probably seen her in the society pages She then asks the nurse why is she here, is she sick, no her daughter lost a baby. Inez pumps for more but the nurse says excuse me I committed an indiscretion. Such a convenient one though, that Inez is so smooth suddenly.

Inez averts her face while Fina gathers her coffee and comes back into Roberta’s room saying everyone in the hospital has such tragic faces but not with a drop of kindness in her soul.

What are you telling Papa? Lets see, Fina dials Gonzo to surprise him with, Oh we are at a Spa so that our daughter can recuperate a little and will stay both stay here overnight to get spa treatments. It’s a package deal for brides with manicures, pedicures, and all. Gonzo says fine. He gives in to girly stuff with a shrug adding, spoil our dear daughter. Fina says sweetly, we will see you first thing tomorrow, all ready and precious for the big day. Spa special for brides, scoffs Roberta from her bed. Will papa swallow that we are in a spa for brides? Fina notes, better than him thinking you are recovering from a miscarriage in a hospital. He isn’t going to hear that.

Constanza shows up at the Monterubbio mansion to tell the maid to have Roberta call her immediately. The maid simply tells her that she isn’t home even though her car is, Roberta and Fina left the house really early.

The rescue continues with Lazaro rappelling down the bank while on the other side, Ezek comes finally with a rope. Lazaro reaches Jero first. While Kari, Alfonsina and the Padre help Augie hold Renata back. (Can you tell this annoys the snot out of me?) Renata yells, is Jero alive, is he alive? They all hurry along the bank and Lazaro swims to reach his master.

Blaanca packs spare sex toys or whatever while clueless Daniel tells her he is surprised that she is leaving early. She wants to stay to the end of the month but those Monterubbios are so volatile. He will miss her friendship and she says his friendship isn’t important, then catches herself saying now she will need his friendship more than ever and they will not lose contact because she needs him to agree to be her eyes and ears reporting EVERYTHING that goes on here. Still clueless, Daniel can’t understand why she would care what happens here after she goes. She offers him to become a prince with a huge bank account if he helps her. He loves Adriana and doesn’t want to trash the family of the woman he loves. She builds his confidence, telling him he better realize he will be an insignificant employee to Adriana so he’s better performing treachery with her. So he can at least be rich.

The rescue ensues, mouth to mouth and chest presses are applied by Renata and Lazaro so Jero finally spits water much to everyone’s relief (except Augie me thinks).

Madrina and Matilde talk in the kitchen. Madrina is hopeful there won’t be any more dead people. Matilde says yeah, but they were so close to sending poor Carlos to the other world. Madrina pumps her to admit that she is happy Carlos survived and she really loves him. Carlos listens in the door way so Madrina and Carlos signal and wink while Madrina does her magic, prompting Matilde to admit that what she felt for Jero was just admiration. She asks what she feels for Carlos she is stlll afraid of the curse on her and she doesn’t want anyth to happen to HER Carlos. She will love him forever but she can’t risk having him die from her bad karma.

They river crew argue over Jero’s slumped but breathing body that they should go to a hospital but that is too far, Augie suggest his place, and Lazaros says no way, but Regina is at the Bonita and will know how to care for him. Renata is surprise Regina is there.

Matias and Gonzo go another round about no news from Baja Napa and why Jero can’t come to the wedding. Gonzo says what is it, for once tell me what you have against Jero. Constanza come in at that moment and tells Matias it is time to spill the beans to Gonzo about why he is really mad at Jero. And why he is marrying Roberta.

Adriana writes an e-mail to Renata that she is worried so Renata is to write her or call as soon as she can. Daniel comes to the door. Adriana thinks he wants to discuss accounts but no he says this is about you and me.

Gonzo is bouncing off the walls, This is inconceivable, It can’t be! that Jero is papa to Roberta’s baby. You mean he did this with his wife’s own sister? Matias says I only want to protect Renata . Constanza chimes in that Matias has been more noble than Gonzo can imagine. Matias says he agreed with Roberta no one is to know, but Consta adds that Matias has prepared the prenuptial agreement is that no one will know and the arrangement is only for one year. (No one knows what Fina has done. The clock is ticking.) Gonzo can’t believe his so misjudged Jero and Matias rubs in a bit that he agreed not to interfere per Gonzos demands. When Matias leaves, Gonz wants to know what else Consta came for and she hesitates then says to hear about Regina. Gonzo has no news.

Daniele can’t believe that Adriana has no interest in him after all Matias is going to marry Roberta tomorrow. Clueless Daniel acts on the corollary to the Blanca argument that now Adriana is so big and important she has no interest him. Adriana reminds him ever so gently that she knows what it is to love someone and not have them love you back in the same way. She never intended anything romantic. But didn’t you love me? Only as friends. The fumes of treachery waft in the hallway. He leaves in a self inflicted huff.

Jero and his resucuers arrive noisily at La Bonita. Regina takes command telling Renata to get his clothes off and get his body warm while she goes to look for antibiotics. Fueling the “too many antibiotics argument here in telenovela land and lets review the mouth-to-mouth resusitation guidelines? Okay let’s not). Renata dutifully takes his clothes then takes off her own adds a terry robe then jumps into bed to warm his half drowned body the old fashioned way. She kisses his partial consciousness and he vows his love to Renata. They kiss with passion and foggy sweetness. Whew, we all needed that. Now on with la Guerra..

Next Time; we review the Jero’s coming to find Renata to forgive her, and Renata throws a fit to find out from Regina that Jero originally married her for vengeance She asks who poisoned Jero with lies about me? Regina takes the bull by the horns and says it was your MOTHER.

Lazaro IS Superman! He might not be the most graceful of heroes but ay papi, he gets the job done. Go Lazaro!

Looking forward to the recap Cheryl. Another exciting episode.

Sylvia, ITA. Lazaro IS Superman. He's svaed three people in as many episodes. His sidekick Zeke isn't so bad either.

I like how Lazaro and Zeke are teaming up. Ever since their "we were born here and should work together not against each other" discussion Zeke has been much more likable. He even stood up to Augustin last night.

I can't believe Alfie was going to tell Kari she slept with slime ball and then--the famous telenovela confession interruptus! Doh! Look forward to the cap, Cheryl!

Lila

Good morning all, I was too tired from my three day photo workshop in Santa Fe but the post is all done and up now.

Yes, Lazaro is hero of the week and perhaps is the most noble spirits of the whole telenovela. He is so cute about attention from Arely too, I wonder how long he will stay mad at Kari now that she seems to see the light. I bet not long, he is so tender hearted.

Good morning Cheryl. Thanks for posting the header so we could get some advance chat going on. The recap was definitely worth the wait.

Favorite lines:
"power-to-the-sluts makeup", LOL! Good one amiga. I also enjoyed the rejected "maternal" kiss. Roberta almost gave herself whiplash the way she whipped her head to the side to avoid Fina's beso.

"The fumes of treachery waft in the hallway." How very Shakespearean!

Oh my lord Blaaaanca is too batty for words. She really thinks Hon should have supported her continued employment? Nut job.

Good stunt, Jero (or stunt double) getting swept away by the flood. It looked very authentic.

Well Hallelujah, Inez recognized Fina. It's time to get with Isidro and start putting two and two together before Fina gets suspicious and starts murdering them all.

Cheryl, it sounds like you had another busy weekend. Thank you for getting your terrific recap posted. I thoroughly enjoyed your clever comments over my cup of morning tea.

Good stuff Cheryl:

Dr. Drinkmuch

Antonio with his "bull face" (Ugh, I find this man soooo unattractive)

Jeronimo "bobbles in the rushing water like a fishing lure" (so descriptive...and hilarious too.)

(Daniel) "he leaves in a self-inflicted huff" (great insight. I suspect most of our huffs are self-inflicted)

I think I dreamed of Lazaro last night. He was quite fetching in his water-soaked black t-shirt, rappelling to the rescue once again. The CPR technique was still totally off-kilter, but at least Lazaro was keeping his arms straight as he pressed, rather than bending them like previous actors have done.

We've discussed before how these characters are figuring out lies and deceits faster than in past telenovelas. I'm glad Chema used his noggin and clued Constanza in on who sent the pictures.

And Jeronimo has finally seen the light! Wonder what the next impediment to true love will be? Like you Cheryl, I was totally delighted that Renata hopped into bed to do some up close and personal warming. We need more of that!

Hi Sylvia and Judy, Yes, I want Isidro to recognize Fina but just as he is exiting the hospital to take Andrecito home so Fina can't get the little guy. She is going to be more volatile than Blanca when she realizes she has been id'd. Get the pie cart loaded, this is going to get better as it gets closer. I wonder whe she will take out on her way down though. That is always a problem.

Cheryl- Thanks so much for giving us this recap, despite your fabulous, adventured-filled life. :)

Poor little Adriancito. I don't think they will give him another health crisis. But I thought it was normal for a little boy to not want to be locked in a hospital room for weeks on end, not seeing his friends or mom. I thought it was a sweet scene.

As for Inez recognizing Fina, she never met Pepa like her hubby did. Maybe she is remembering those posters with the drawing of Pepa that they initially made up after Renata/Regina Jr. was stolen?

I think Dona Cata said that she preferred the dangers of Mother Nature, over the danger posed by a killer. Amen! Also, I think the pretty doc confirmed that although they got the infection and hemorraging under control, Berta was for sure sterile. Fina tried to point out that she was the one who stopped Berta from having an abortion in the first place. Berta responded that just because she didn't want THIS kid, doesn't mean that she NEVER wanted to have one.

Carlos and Madrina were so cute in their little game to get Mati to confess to her true feelings. His WTF look on his face as he heard her reasoning for keeping her distance was hilarious.

So last night Gonzo found out the "truth" of Berta's baby and why Matias is marry her. Nata is back at the Bonita and in a half-dead Jero's bed and arms. The plot could go in so many different directions at this point.

I know that tns usually don't have a ton of money for special effects and stunts, but the last two water stunts were really well done-- Kari's body being overtaken by the rushing water in the doc's office, and Jero being swept away down the river bank.

Batty Blanca has a plan, and I don't think it has to do with Hon. After he rejected her yet again, she just shrugged and smiled as she walked off with her box. Like, it would have been nice had he wanted her, but she's got other plans too. And now the idiot Daniel will likely be her accomplice. How exactly does he plan on explaining to Adri how he's suddenly become so rich, while working at her dad's company? Idiot!

Fun stuff Cheryl! I really enjoyed last night's episode. It went so fast and I was sorry it was over.

Have to say, some of these actors are taking a beating in this TN. May have been a stunt double floating down the river, but Mr. boble-head was definitely Jero. That is tough to do to keep going under like that, even if it was edited with separate takes. Laz has been getting soaked and roughed up trying to resuce everyone, poor Kari got all that water thrown at her on the floor of the doctor's office, Jero alaready fell off a horse. Gees...there must have been a doc on set for this TN. But it makes it so much fun to see the actual actors going thru this versus poor editing shots of doubles.

And I bet the outtakes were hysterical. (I swear at one point when Nata is undressing Jero he looks like's he fighting a smile.)

Doc-of-the-bottle is now out of business. I wonder if this will result in Gina sticking around longer than expected. That would be awesome.

Not loving that now that Nata and Jero may be getting back things straightened out, Gonzo is believing the balderdash on the baby. Please Berta - fess up. Heck, it's not like she won't get a chunk of Gonzo's cash anyway and is living the "good life" in the meantime. Think girl...

So now Inez knows the truth on the baby - we need her on that phone to Gina ASAP with the gossip, some how some way.

Batty Blanca and Daft Daniel - these two need to ride out into the sunset and fast. I hope they aren't in this for the long haul but I have a bad feeling they are. Blech! We still don't know Blanca's background story line...not that I care to, but she has to be tied into someone or something that keeps her around besides Hon.

Such good stuff! The mind boggles that this TN is so long and we have so much to go. Seems like so much of the original plot lines are getting out in the open. There has to be some sort of realigning of relationships and new plots to keep this thing moving.

daisy, yes! To Gina sticking around I mean. Also to the actors and/or stunts taking a beating. This has been a very physical telenovela. Add to it all the horsemanship and it's no wonder they are (mostly) all in good shape. Even Lazaro looks like he might have dropped a couple of pounds, or maybe it was his black outfit.

Daft Daniel, I love it.

Cheryl great recap and thanks.

Wow i just can't believe how many secrets keep getting revealed so soon.

Ines looks like she did recognize Fina and but she needed to know her name which was confirmed by the nurse and now she knows about Roberta's miscarriage.

Consta learns from Chema that both Roberta and stalking Selene were in on sending those pictures to Hon.

Batty Blanca is let go and told by Gonzo you're outta here at the end of the day he can't risk her being there until the end of the month. But it seems she has already done some damage to the company.

She enlist Daft Daniel great name there Daisynjay to be her eyes and ears while she is not there. Daniel presses Adriana on why she doesn't love him? Aaaaaaaaaah becuase you never really told her how you felt and you seem to think a woman being nice and friendly towards means she is definitely in love with you. What a loser.

Auggie keeps showing Renata that he's not the rebound guy for her to get over Jero. I don't have any criticism towards him from holding back Renata. As strong as those currents looked that swept away Jerko what exactly was Renata going to accomplish going in after Jerko? Getting hurt herself or drowning?

Dr. Drinksalot practice is out of business his drunkenness on the night the whole town needed showed everyone he's not responsible or dependable at all. The towns people now believe he might have operated on Rafael in his constant state of drunkenness.

He's not going to be happy losing his practice and Kari at the same time.

Glad Alfosina did try to come clean to Kari about her affair but they were interrupted.

Finally the big reveal Consta tells Gonzo the big and noble sacrifice Matias is making in order to protect Renata.

Vivi good point on how this plot can go in so many different ways.

The commandante and now Ines have seen Fina and both suspect she is Pepa.

The miscarriage Roberta,Fina and now Ines now about this.

Why in the world is Matias marrying a woman he doesn't love? Well Matias,Roberta,Fina,Consta and now Gonzo know the reason why.Wished she had told Gonzo also about Roberta's latest and nasty little stunt with the pictures it would expose her even more to how nasty and so like her mother she is.

The lie about the father of Roberta's baby and who knows the truth. Roberta,Stalking Selene and Fina.

Renata finds out the truth concerning her marriage she learns the real reason why Jerko married her. I can't see her staying with him after she learns this despite his condition. Regina reveals all that the person who told Jerko these untruths about her is her very own mother. Which is the biggest lie of this whole novela.

You can see the hurt Renata has when she learns this truth but i feel it will embolden her to break free from wanting Fina's approval and maternal love and Roberta's sisterly love for once and for all.

Now the question will she get to the church on time to reveal all that she knows about both Fina and Roberta.Plus stop the marriage to Matias.

At the same time if she does show up she might learn the newest lie that Roberta baby's father is Jerko's. That will really end her feelings and marriage to the Jerk.

As for the Blanca storyline i can't figure out if she is really working for someone or her father or not. She is just a complete nut job she has got me totally confused on this?

Cheryl--You are amazing, doing double duty and seeming to enjoy it all.

Trouble in Paradise. Yes, Jero's new problem is to try to convince Nata he's not the baby-daddy to Berta's missing child. The shoe is on the other foot--dude. Take that!

I don't know that Ines recognized Fina as Pepa, but as she told the nurse, as some grande dame from the society pages. The critical piece of information she has is that she is a Monterrubio and she surely knows Renata from the short stay at the clinic. Yep, she's got some good gossip for Regina, once the phone lines are restored.

Meanwhile, it's up to Isidro, who's in quarantine to put the two and two together. That's still going to be tough.

Laz is the MAN!! Didn't like him at first, but if I can see him through a Superman filter, he fits the role.

Loved the rescue and the CPR, correct or not. It showed that Renata is hopelessly in love with Jeronimo and she's admitting it to herself. Too bad that the times they are going to be changin'.

Daisy--I watched almost all the matches and felt terrible when Uruguay had to play Mexico. Telefutura was also broadcasting some of the games.

Kelly--I like your idea of Kari, at least making a cajon for the doc and nudging it over a cliff.
NOK

Has anyone else noticed that Silvia N. rolls her 'r's a lot? Especially when she's mad/upset or wants to emphasize a point. All native Spanish speakers can roll the r. But most people only seem to do it when the word actually has a 'rr'. While others tend to have the same speach pattern as Silvia N. I noticed that Laisha W. (Gancho) does the same thing. Is it just something that people from certain parts of Mexico and other places in LatAm do, a regional mannerism? Or is it just the mannerism of certain individuals, like some English speakers who throw 'uhms' into their spoken sentences?

Thanks for the great recap, Cheryl. I wasn't able to watch last night's ep, as I was at my first MLB game. I'm not a sports person, but it was so much fun.

Red flag, clueless TN people, Rob told Mat that she was pregnant with Jero’s child. Rob, you know, the one who’s soooooooooooooooo trustworthy.

“Doc-of-the-bottle is now out of business. I wonder if this will result in Gina sticking around longer than expected. That would be awesome.” Is Gina a doctor?

Robey

I don't think Regina is a doctor, or even a nurse. But since there is only one hospital in the whole country and it's in Mexico City, she's the best they have. Luckily, they all know that to save a drowning man, you give him antibiotics and then shake. Or maybe they're just so confused, wondering where all these jungle-y trees and raging river came from, that they can't think straight. (I think the cannibals from La Espada y La Rose must have brought them up when they escaped the conquistadors down south).

Thanks for bringing up the rrrrrrrr question, Vivi. I've noticed certain singers do it as well, even when it's not a double "r". Like Marco Antonio Solis.

And the fellow on the Latino radio station here rolls his "r's" in a very flamboyant way when announcing something, even though a double r is not in the word.

So maybe it's just an aspect of colorful language. Some folks really juice up their speech and others don't. But perhaps we can get Jarocha to weigh in on this.

Jarocha...are you out there?

I seem to remember at some point early on when Regina was talking about setting up the center in D.F. that she she mentions having some sort of medical training, but she is not a doctor.

I presume the antibiotics were because Jeronimo swallowed a lot of water when the dam broke and swept him away and the water could have unfiltered sewage in it.

So wow that was a ton of action last night!! I'm excited or tonight, but sorry I didn't get to re-cap the exciting ones they go by faster. Tonight will be a lot of drama!!

Cheryl, wonderful re-cap your wonderful!! I agree that Lazaro is the Hero he is a hunky hero too! I am also beginning to like Zeke he is gettting better. I am curious to see how far Auggie goes at this point he is merely a slimy jerk, but will he go full blown bad guy?

I was wondering how long Renata and Jero would last, after the rescue and sweet moments, but I guess not even a whole espisode, unless she realizes her mom was to blame and she forgives Jero and they team up to get Mom!!

W.O.W.S.E.R.S.!!!! Fantastic capitulo with a FANTASTIC recap, Cheryl!!!

"Power to the sluts makeup" I LOVE this one! This is a keeper!!!

Nothing else to add except that I am enjoying every little minute of this TN!!

Susanita

It's funny, I don't really notice the emphasis of the "r" as much. Silvia's soft r still sounds like a soft r to me. But she does have a very clear enunciation (even if she speaks so fast) so maybe she has strong consonants and thats why the r sounds so strong. She must spend a little more time with the tip of the tongue in the roof of her mouth than the rest but it's still not enough to create the rr sound. My guess is that with a strong use of consonants the r might sound stronger to non natives but it is not as noticeable to native Spanish speakers.

As a side note: One way to recognize a Mexican-American with perfect Spanish pronunciation from a Mexican is the soft r, because it always sounds much softer than it should be and that changes the whole perception of the speach.

For what is worth, both Silvia Navarro and Laisha Wilkins have a background as presenters for tv shows so maybe they got used to a strong enunciation there.

Jarocha

I can't see Renata teeming up with Jerko after she learns that it was her mother's lie that made Jerko believe that she was La Bonita.

Jerko had plenty of time to ask her if this is true what her mother said about her? Plus it's been mentioned all that he has seen concerning Renata it did not add up to what Fina told him and he knew that Renata did not have the best loving relationship that she wanted with her mother.

Jerko was too stupid and lazy going on just hearsay even if it was her mother. One would question why is this woman mother bad mouthing her own daughter like this. if anything he should have checked into see what was going with Renata's relationship with her own mother. Then he might have been skeptical of everything Fina told him.

Renata how can she easily forgive a person who set out to make her life a living hell through mental torture because he wanted her to confess to being the person who drove his brother to suicide. He's been the one who has lied once he found out Renata's true name. he set out to get his revenge upon her so how can she even think or believe there's a bit of truth or honesty about him if he says he loves her.

I agree, carried away in my excitement at Dial a Doc being exposed to the town, that I don't think Gina is a full-fledged Doctor, but she has some smarts somehow on setting up clinic( and I think she already alluded to that?). knowing the townsfolks have no one now, she could put her organizational skills to use and set something up and she could stick around and run the show. We just need a nice handsome doctor to ride into town to be recruited to help.

Great recap, Cheryl. I also especially cracked up at:

"Roberta, who by the way is looking so much more innocent without all the power-to-the-sluts makeup..."

Though she's not very likeable, it's still impossible not to have sympathy for her. I think that she has much more potential than Selene.

Fina said something that Roberta didn't pick up on and I don't think has been mentioned here today. She said something to the effect that what has happened to Roberta has foreclosed any chance for her to have a grandchild who actually carries her blood...

I wonder if Roberta will remember this and wonder what she means by that. This is not the first time that she has hinted to Roberta that she is not actually Renata's mom.

Do you guys realize that no one here has taken any shots at Matilde in a couple of days? I'm starting to feel the love...

Carlos

Carlos- I picked up on that when Fina said it, but Berta did not. I think you're right that she'll file it away in her memory bank to be used later, maybe when she's redeemed and has turned against Fina.

As for your girl Mati...she's cute when she's expending her energy fussing over Carlos and not being bratty to Nata or mooning over Jero. No complaint from me over behavior the last few episodes.

Jarocha- Thanks for the answer. It probably is more evident to a non-native speaker. But the fact that both SN and LW have tv announcer backgrounds may be the key.

I've been watching MEPS in the afternoon and noticed especially when Silvia and Fernando are talking to each other, they both have that soft 'r' almost like a French 'r' from the back of their mouths, at the end of their words. I'll have to listen for the hard rolled 'rr's' in other dialog. This has been interesting.

I got a big kick out of Fernando Fiore, the sports announcer on Univision. His parents were from Uruguay, but he was born and brought up in Argentina. During the Copa America, he was using a strong River Plate accent, but when he's back in the States, he loses his River Plate accent and sounds more like the tv announcer's standard Spanish.
NOK

Thanks Cheryl for a splendid recap. It all makes more sense now. Sometimes I spend so much time reading the closed captions that I miss all the wonderful expressions. So, I try to divide between reading and understanding...

NOK- Good catch on Silvia and Fernando C. I think he does the same thing with the soft r too. It's quite nice to the ear actually. I like it. I just wonder why some people seem to natually do it, and others don't.

Carlos, I;m glad you brought up Fina's quip about blood offspring, I too think Roberta will play back that scene over and over later. I am glad that she is getting more sympathetic and so is Matilde who hasn't been annoying for two and a half episodes at least! I love how the characters are developing and shifting before our eyes. In addition to all the revelations of secrets. This telenovela really does rock.

Jarocha and Vivi and others on the accent and enunciation issues. I find that if I relax and just listen to the flow of Sylvia's words, she really is clear and easy to understand. She shows her professional announcer training.

NewbieOK: I love Fernando Fiore, too! I have also noticed the changes in his speech as you mention below. He also does quite well in English, too as evidence by his super announcing duties on the Copa de Oro.

Love, love Sylvia's accent. :))

Carlos: In your dreams, mister! Feel the love. Right. I'm just glad your Matilde child is not such a nuisance for now. Personally, I think Adri is a better match for Carlos. Anyway, I'm a long way from feeling any love for Matilde.

Susanita

You go, Susanita, I favor Carlos with the more intelligent less spelled Adriana. They have been seen with lots of chemistry but thre was nothing at stake so its probably all in my head.

Sorry, a little late for the train on this one...I thought Regina was a doctor. Wasn't she medically trained and then she opened the Regina Center? Maybe she started her medical training and never finished it. Or maybe she got her license and just treats people at the center and we never see her? Whatever, she would be a great doctor. Maybe she and Lazaro can carpool to school together, he for engineering and she for medicine.

Sylvia- You are remembering what I remembered. Gina has medical training related to the work she started doing at her center, but I don't think she actually became a doctor. I'd have to go back to the early episodes to find the reference, but I'm glad someone else remembers it too.

Manuela is the Queen of the r rollers! She's a sweet lady - love her character. But her diction drives me up the wall!

Audrey

Hi

I've been reading for about a week or two...and love it! I DV-R CMO and for the past couple weeks the tn has been pre-empted by a soccer game. So this really helps me keep up!

Regina is a physical therapist. I believe she said she did her training after Pepa/Fina took her baby, so they never showed her doing her training, it was only mentioned in passing.

Anyhow, LOVE this! Thank you so much for taking the time to post these detailed recaps!
