Cuando Me Enamoro #109 Friday 9/23/11 'I see dead people'... Papa Gonz gives Fina a piece of his mind...AH to the rescue again with his wallet

... and tantrum man and tantrum boy have fits‏

Recap by Marta Ivett

Connie fights with Pepa, threatens she will prove Fina and Pepa are one and the same… they insult each other ‘fed up with you!’… Connie says won’t rest until Pepa is in jail for her crimes… Pepa laughs at her… then tries to choke her… Connie shakes herself off, but Pepa grabs the glass vase off the coffee table and smashes it on Connie’s head… then grabs metal statue and hits Connie with it too… Blood puddle below Connie’s head, that looks pretty bad… Pepa grabs her scarf and cleans her fingerprints off the statue and starts messing up the room/house to fake as if it was a common burglary… steals the jewelry from Connie’s bedroom drawer chest. (grabbing everything with the scarf so as to not to leave fingerprints.. but who knows if she slipped some.) When leaving, Pepa actually looks a bit startled/scared. (not knowing if Connie is alive or not.)

At La Bonita, Ezeq comes to see Lazaro and tells him about Melesio at ‘La Aurora’ ranch… Melesio has some sarmiento (vine bud) for Augie… very valuable. Ezeq tells Lazaro that he thinks that sarmiento is from La Bonita. Tells him about asking Augie about it and Augie saying the only extremely valuable bud around is the La Bonita one. Ezeq tells Lazaro his suspicion is that if Augie begins to plant the same sarmiento as La Bonita’s he will become Jero’s competition. Lazaro is very impactado/irritated.

Pepa arrives home very scared/startled… startles Berta… Pepa even manhandles Berta saying you will stay around… Berta asks what is going on, Pepa says have to leave for a few days… bring the luggage!! Had a huge confrontation with Connie and don’t know if that will have grave consequences for me. Berta whines about Pepa leaving her behind alone… Pepa needs her to keep an eye and ear for her… for EVERYTHING, heard me?? Berta does not want Pepa to just dissappear. Pepa is trying to run out, but Gonzo arrives and asks where they are going with that luggage.

We see Connie still unconscious.

Kari is worried about not finishing her wedding dress in time… The other girls offer to help her. Carlos startles Mati just as she is saying they miss Jero the hermoso. They all rush to use the dining room table to cut the material for Kari’s wedding gown before Jero gets back.

Gonzo says just want to know why you are leaving in such a hurry… Fina says need space. Gonzo says came to talk to you because I am reasonable, civilized…
F: After all you have done to me nothing surprises me.
G: After what I have done to you? What about what you have done to your daughter and to me? There are no words to tell you how much I despise you.
F: IF you only came to offend me, you better leave.
G: Don’t play the offended. IT doesn’t fit you after all the messes you have made.
F: If you would rather believe others, go ahead. After all you stopped trusting me and loving me long ago.
G: Love you? And you, Fina, did you ever love me?
F: What use would it do for me to tell you? You already judged me and condemned me. Of course, in the way that is most convenient for you.
G: Excuse me? What is most convenient for me?
F: OF course. You are convinced I never loved you. That I was with you only for your money. Just so you can clear up your conscience. And to feel at ease with your lover.
G: Enough! You know you are banned from speaking like that of Regina!
F: And I don’t let you come to MY house to speak to me that way. Or what? Did you come to tell me that this is no longer my house? That you will back up on your word?
G: I am a man of my word. Don’t worry that I will come through with it. But don’t count on my support. After all you and Roberta have done, enough, Fina. My relationship with you and Berta is over for good.
Fina whispers too bad your wishes won’t come true, Gonzo.

Petra the maid finds Connie on her floor… gets freaked out… then calls Honorio, who is at the office with Matias going over the great accomplishments of the company in last 48 hrs. Petra tells Hono that Connie looks as if she were dead. Hono runs out asking Matt to call for an ambulance for his house… Petra then runs out and gets Gonzo.

At the office, Matt has run into Renata and Adri. At the elevator they run into Augie who jumps on the bandwagon heading to the hospital.

Gonzo is asking Petra what happened. She already called Hono. She asks him if Sra Constanza will get well. He can’t respond anything.

Pepa calls Regina to advance the due date of the money, two days… Gina says can’t get that money in 2 days. But Pepa threatens forget your daughter if you don’t have the money in 48 hrs. Pepa says things have changed, so she needs the money faster. Gina says all these years without my daugher have been like being dead alive (yada yada… heard this before… lets move on). Pepa says you messed with Antonio and then with Gonzo.. Gina surprised Pepa knows so much. Pepa says know every move of yours. So don’t dare tell anyone about it. Gina says will try to get as much as I can. Pepa says no, not ‘as much’, the whole amount I asked. Pepa hangs up. Gina calls the only source she knows of for that kind of money… She summons Jero to her office right away.

Gonzo tries to calm down Hono over phone. Go directly to the hospital and meet us there. Hono wants the truth, Gonzo says he can barely feel a pulse… it does not look good. But lets not lose the faith. My God!... lets not lose the faith… lets not lose it.

Fina is about to leave. She tells Berta that Gonzo came to argue about them, so he does not know about Connie yet. They are relieved. Fina tells Berta don’t get lost, we will have to advance our plans.

Padre visits Marina… she is about to buy some things and then to the airport to pick up Jero. Padre is outraged she is planning to go alone. She leaves and he says, ‘love, love’.

At hospital Gonzo meets up with Hono, Matias, Nata and Adri… Gonzo called the police captain to start the investigation. Everything was roughed up, as if someone had been looking for something. Hono is worried about losing her now that he finally got her back. Gonzo insists they have to have faith… Connie is having head surgery…

Hono is suspecting Blanca had to do with this attack on Connie. Gonzo is not so sure.
But he will tell the cop so they can explore all possibilities.

Jero arrives at Gina’s office. She is desperate. HE is very conforting. She needs a huge favor. Need a big amount of money. He asks for the center? No. But they told me not to tell anyone… but have to tell you because otherwise you won’t understand why I need so much money. What is it about? The rescue of my daughter. (Jero impactado)

At hotel, Fina is taking a good amount of pills… very anxious… takes another look at Connie’s jewelry… wonders what happened. If connie speaks, all her plans are ruined. No!! I won’t allow that!!

J: That woman had her all this time??
G: Yes! And she made her believe she was her mother!
J: Miserable..
G: Now you understand why I am so desperate?
J: Its understandable, Gina. But you can’t give her that amount of money without knowing for sure it is your daughter.
G: I know. I demanded a DNA test and she agreed. That is why I have no doubts she has her.
J: Then she has been watching you all this time. Otherwise she would not know so much about you and your life.
G: She confessed it to me. That is why you can’t tell anyone anything, please! Because if she finds out that you know, I don’t know what she will do to you and my daughter!
J: here here.. please.. please don’t worry, you know you can count on me and my discretion. But something is not adding up here. Something must have happened for her to change her mind about the time she gave you. Somehow it is not urgent for her to get that money from you.
G: I thought that too. It is not logical that she needs all that money overnight.
J: Could the police be after here, and she needs to leave the country and that is why she needs the money faster?
G: Perhaps, but I don’t care. Once she gives me my daughter, she can do whatever.
J: Aren’t you going to press charges against her?
G: What for?
J: What do you mean what for? To do justice!
G: The damage is done already, Jero. All the years I was away from my daughter… I wont’ get them back sending her to jail. Even if Pepa rotted in jail, that will do me no good.

Eventually Jero assures Gina he can get that money to her in time. She swears she will pay him. He says don’t worry. What is important is to recover your daughter. She cries very thankful. (Hey AH, can I borrow some money too?) The phone rings again. Gonzo calls her to tell her about Connie. Jero says he was just talking to Connie a while ago. Gina invites him to come along, Jero is not sure it is right for him to but he does tag along.

The maid Eulalia comes to ‘tell’ Berta what happened at Connie’s. Some ‘burglars’ hit your aunt on the head. Left a puddle of blood… Don’t know if she died… Berta gets nervous. Berta calls her mom, asks her what she did to Connie. Fina tells Berta she had to hit Connie because she was going to tell Gina that she stole her daughter.

Berta asks her if she really wanted to kill her, Fina says no I did not mean to, got panicked and all I could think of was to hit her so she would shut up. Berta stays anxious thinking it had to be an accident, that her mom could not intentionally do that. She does not want to be alone so she calls Selene. Sele is at a disco… Berta wants Sele to tell her where she is so she can catch up with her to have drinks. Sele won’t tell her where she is… Berta calls Sele ungrateful, Sele says and you are a bad friend. Sele fakes that she is with Diego. Berta says you better choose your friends better. Sele says that is what I am doing, that is why I am with him and not with you.

Carlos and Lazaro are talking about the sarmiento that Ezeq told him about. Lazaro says Augie has always wanted to get his hands on the sarmiento of La Bonita. And you know his ways. Carlos agrees. Carlos comes up with the perfect excuse to go to Augie’s lands. Bring him more of the mix for the plague… via Ezequiel.

Ines/Isidro… she tells him about Connie… it went well for him. He seems distant. She asks him not to be mad at her. He doesn’t’ like it either. HE can’t understand so much resistance to the change/move. She says its been a very hard few months with Andresito’s illness.. thinking of one more change terrifies her. HE asks why didn’t she tell him that way before. He says this chance came unsolicited and at this late stage in his career… they share ‘proud of you, proud of you being so extraordinary’ compliments. He says if you don’t want to move, we won’t. She says she does not want that, so he gets irritated ‘then what do you want to do?’ She asks him for a couple of days to digest the idea and then they can talk about it again in a couple days.

Berta is in the company of a bottle of wine… she is definitely feeling lonely. At her hotel, Fina is mocking Connie’s cheap jewelry… she tells herself that maybe Berta is not as strong as she was because she has always enabled her. If connie does not die and goes after her, she will have to resort to faking being crazy… noone will think of it twice. Nata is already convinced that she was crazy and had to visit a psychiatrist. If she finds herself cornered, that will be her out. She will never put a foot in jail… never!

Gina and Jero arrive to the hospital. Everyone is glad and thankful for Gina to be there… Jero walks in after her. Augie walks to confront him right away. Hono and Gonzo thank Jero for coming. Gina explains Jero was with her when Gonzo called her.
The nurse summons Honorio to fill out the admission paperwork. Adri goes with him.

Gonzo is embracing Nata and Gina… Augie and Jero exchange daring stares…

Somewhere in airport, Marina is waiting for Jero…

Augie confronts Jero… (Tantrum man strikes again)
A: You can see Connie is well attended, it is not necessary that you stay.
J: You want me to leave?
A: There are too many people. And of all here, you are the one that needs to be here the least.
J: And just because you are engaged to Renata that gives you the right to order around?
Matt: What are you saying, Jero?? What do you mean Nata is engaged to Augie? (And why should you care, tantrum boy??)
J: (Nata came in with Matt) Forgive me, I did not realize you had not told your family that you are engaged TO MARRY with Dunant.

Previews: Jealousy confrontations … Jero tells Gina everything is lost, things went too far.
Augie kisses Nata.. (voiceover: Everything seems to indicate that Augie won the battle, BUT..)
Nata: I need for you to forgive me. Can you forgive me?
J: Anytime you need me, I will be there for you. (Nata kisses him on cheek, near lips.)

Wonderful Vivi and the dialog additions, fab!! I was sick with the aftermath of a migraine last night and could barely watch, so this is much appreciated.

Yes, I would like to join the Bank of Jero. Gees, I knew he was rich, but holy smoke...bails out a major company, now helping Gina and he doesn't bat an eye. I want in!!

Is Berta thinking twice about this whole scheme and what her mother is putting her in the middle of? We can only hope. As for Fina, ah my dear, you don't need to fake being a nutjob, you are one. I can see it now, she and BSC as roomies!

I know it wasn't cool, but honestly, so glad Jero spilled the beans about Auggie and Nata. Maybe her family can talk some sense into her...especially if they get whiff of his possessiveness. That kiss in the preview - what the heck is she apologizing for? But do like that they seem on the mend...

Matias - shut up!

Back to work - doing from home today since still not feeling wonderful. Can't wait to see everyone's comments. Have a good day all!!!

Marta, thank you so much! Ahhhh, another emotion-filled episode what with the replay of the assault on poor Connie! Fina did indeed look scared and almost regretful there as she looked at her sister-in-law lying in a pool of blood. Nobody seems to recognize what a homocidal, psychopathic maniac Fina is: when she came barging like a bull into Connie's house ranting and raving, that whipped Connie into a frenzy and she attacked Fina with the only thing she had, the truth about her dastardly deeds. As noted yesterday, you don't do this to a psychopath and Fina did indeed freak, the laughter being the first sign and then choking her to try to shut her up and, well the rest. Dramatic, shocking, unexpected. BUT it is good to see Fina and Berta unraveling. Berta is first among those who don't really know what an evil sicko her mother is but she's getting it and NO I don't feel a bit sorry for her!

Thank goodness Gina told Jero the truth. Jero will certainly put the pieces together and suspect Fina of the attempted murder of Connie.

Lastly, Auggie! Man! That was a great sulk! Go back and look at his face when Jero outed the engagement, I was cracking up! Auggie did this fantastic sulk and I swear his face even darkened! Hilarious. Lovin' the show! Thanks again, Marta, always love the precise dialogue!

Lila

Feel better daisynjay! It was Marta who provided her usual stellar recap with great dialogue. Thanks Marta!

Yeah, Berta seems to draw the line at murder, but what did she think Fina meant about her confrontation with Coni?

I agree, Matias needs to shut up and butt out.

I would also like to sign up to be a friend of Jero. I've got a few grad school loans that still need paying...

Sorry, forgot about that Vivi. Thanks Marta!!!! The best!

Buenos dias, Marta! Thanks for writing such a lovely recap for us to enjoy.

Jero is supposed to be one of the richest men in Spain, so he must have millions to throw around. I totally want in on that too. Jero could help me out with my dreaded school loans.

Speaking of Jero, I think he is going to be the key in figuring out that what happened to Constanza was no robbery. She had just given him information that could incriminate Fina and suddenly Connie ends up with a serious head injury. Hopefully Jero will notice how suspicious that is.

daisynjay, I think Fina just might earn herself a straightjacket in the manicomo with Blanca once all is said and done. She and Blanca as roommates would be a contest at who could out-loca the other. That would be pretty entertaining!

Berta might not have crossed entirely over to the dark side. She was awfully disturbed by the thought that Fina attempted to kill Connie in cold blood. Deep down, she knew her mother was capable of it but kept telling herself that it was "an accident". Berta is in denial so she doesn't have to face the truth about her role model mother. I wonder what Berta will think when the rest of Fina's bad deed come to light.

Amy

Yes. Thanks Marta. I always appreciate your word for word dialogue. This was quite an episode.

Honorio thinks that Blanca was behind this -- and she did make that phone call the other day. Maybe she does have some guard wrapped around her finger. If she gets loose than the suspicion for the attack AND for the blackmail of Regina may fall on her instead of on Fina. That could extend things a bit. Honorio and the cops may go off on a wild goose chase.

I'm so glad that Regina told Jeronimo everything. He's already speculating that something drastic must have happened to push Pepa to ask for the money immediately. He at least is going to link the attack on Coni to the blackmail. Now the only piece of info that he doesn't have yet is that Isidro & Coni think that Fina is Pepa. He's likely to solve the whole thing -- but no one will listen to him because Mati & Auggie will keep chasing him away. Those two are really bugging me. I love your subtitle.

Güera

Amy our post crossed & so I didn't see that you had already noted that Jero was going to be the key.

I agree that Berta is showing some signs of humanity here. I still think she will be reformed. Once she finds out that Fina killed Rafa and forged the two letters her world will be turned upside down. She may turn away from the dark (in which Fina is always dressed.)

Güera

Marta! Our dialogue specialist! You NEVER fail! Thank you so much.

Best part of the evening for me was Jero 'outing' the so called engagement of Augie and Nata. Oh my yes, thank you, Jero!!!

Susanita

MartaIvett, I love your title, so perfect. I am trying to get ready to host book club this afternoon and my house is like the Augean Stables we talked about last week. Much to do and Willa just wants her usual walk by El Rio Grande. Hasta pronto.

Is it a telenovela rule that a injured character must be cried over for the same length of time as a wake before medical help is summoned!? Connie/numerous characters on floor in pool of blood/heart attack/or etc. and medical help is not called immediately. No.ooo.oo. Let's call hubby's office receptionist. Let's call the neighbor. Let's call the woman/man down.
As I remember in Sortilegio, the lead galan was unconcious for 3 days before waking and telling the man who took him to his hovel to call an abulance.
Makes me question are the writer's required to follow a telenovela rule or their imaginations of a 'tear-jerker' is limited to have actor cry over woman/man down.

Marta--you rock. The dialog is always appreciated (when watching without subtitiles).

There was just too much going on last night. Great comments. I'm glad Jero spilled the beans, too. Nata is going to have to fish or cut bait. She looked horrified to be outed that way.

I think the avances for tonight with Jero and Nata are another fleeting teaser. Maybe Nata is asking to be forgiven for the way she treated Jero on the phone--lighting into him the way she did.

She doesn't need to kiss him--but isn't she wearing the same outfit as the hospital scene--so maybe she's trying to let everyone know that the Auggie thing isn't as serious as it looks. But, she still has his RING, doggone it. She needs to give it back until she's sure about what she really wants.

Did anyone feel just a little bit sorry for Dr. Marina de las Tatas waiting in vain for Jeronimo? It has happened to me and it's not fun. (I went to the airport a day early for an international flight with the same flight number as the one the next day. We laugh about it now...)

I wonder if Jero will think to call Marina or will she call him at an inopportune time.

OT: Vivi--do you attend any of the GALA theater productions? Ay Carmela is very good--funny and poignant.
NOK

It IS maddening, isn't it Bonnie! I was screaming at the TV: CALL THE AMBULANCE!! My gosh, that was such a pool of blood, that would be THE FIRST call! I've just been thankful this novela at least recognizes technology and that people aren't riding horses instead of driving and refusing to use even corded phones! Yes, Jero will put the puzzle together as I noted above, but did he ask Connie to get samples of Fina's hand writing? He suspects Fina of murdering his brother, why would he ask Connie to do such a thing (if he did)? I know the show would be over much too quickly, but reinvolvement of Police would be a good idea, too! (yes, I know, Fina can even break the long arm of the law!)

Lila

Jero has the letter that Fina wrote to Rafael faking it being from Berta. So he wants to cross handwriting traces (an expert would be able to do that even if Fina tried to fake the handwriting when she wrote the letter to Rafa).

I understand the need for handwriting analysis, but he sent Connie into the den of the psycho. . .not sure how but there must've been a less dangerous way to get a sample, like Gonzo could've easily gotten something with her writing on it. Ah well, anyway, prayers for our dear Connie!

Lila

Good point about Jero asking Coni to get the handwriting samples. BUT he couldn't really go to Gonzalo since he'd have to explain why -- and Coni already was on his team, also suspecting Fina of being the one who wrote the letters. Jero has the samples - Coni already turned them over - so he should soon have proof in hand that it was Fina who wrote the letter found with Rafa's body

Thanks, Marta! Such a great recap and thanks for detailing the important conversations.

Finally Regina has told someone slightly smarter about the blackmail scheme. At least Jero pointed out that she needs some proof Pepa has her daughter. Now he needs to point out that they also need a strategy to make sure the daughter, the RIGHT daughter, is handed over, and Pepa doesn't just take the money and run without keeping her part of the bargain. Of course, they should also be strategizing to capture Pepa and thus keep the money AND have the daughter returned.

I wish Regina would put on her R necklace so Jero or Renata would see it. Or Regina would see a picture of Fina.

I'm really enjoying watching Renata get increasingly annoyed by Augie's controlling possessiveness. I've known a few people like him in real life and it's going to be very satisfying to see him not get his way. He'll probably never understand why everyone won't just do what he wants.

Thanks for your recap Marta. The dialogues were great.

Hi everyone...just getting home after a long day starting at 6 am.

"I see dead people..." Love it, Marta. Yes, trying to eat dinner while the camera focused on Connie's pool of blood and an hysterical maid poking the body rather than calling the squad...AWFUL! However, in most TN's prolonged hysteria seems to be called for before any rational action is taken.

Rather enjoying seeing the cool and collected Fina get rattled. And yes, as others have noted, she actually DID look somewhat regretful after bashing in Connie's skull.

I'm in desperate need of some tender moments twixt Renata and Jeronimo tonight. And like others, felt QUITE sorry for poor Dr. Tata at the airport. Especially since Padre Tio kept emphasizing how dangerous the carretera was to airport. Will something dreadful happen to our doctora on her lonely way home...without Jeronimo?

Ugh...too many awful things happening in this novela right now. But your recap was excellent as always, Marta. Gracias.

I just wish Renata would dress nicer and Matias would stop wearing those shiny suits. Renata is so beautiful, whu do they dress her like a jester?

Is this one of the rules in our Telenovela Rule Book? It should be.

TN Rule about the heroine's clothes:

TN heroines must always have a unique "look" that is memorable or makes her stand out, either because of it's excessive frumpiness, sexiness, strangeness, or unique signature pieces. Like the change in hairstyle, a change in clothing stlye/"look" often signifies a tunring point for the heroine.

I think the director/costume designer wants to make the heroine stand out and be memorable, even if we don't like the clothes.

Totally right about the protagonista's clothing rule, Vivi. I think the best example was in Gancho, where Monita would actually talk about wanting to change "mi looks." In the beginning she'd turn up for job interviews and such in totally inappropriate cocktail dresses, because that was the only dressed-up stuff she thought of/could get her hands on. Then when she had some money to spend, she adopted a new office style of short flouncy skirts with shorts underneath. Still hadn't quite grasped appropriateness; still very colorful. Then when she quit working in the office she went back to her gym clothes...but she always had a distinct look.

You've got something there Vivi. Remember poor Maite and those blasted corset vests in Mi Pecado. Thought I'd scream if I saw one more of those.

I just wish they would look for Nata to have a more sophisticated look. I know she's supposed to be fun-loving and a bit impetuous, but does she have to look like she shops in Jr. Miss? She started this TN wearing short sexy dresses. Now it's all shorts, tights, boots, she's so covered up most days you would think this takes place in Montana, in the Fall!

Thanks Marta. Great recap with great translations once more. You spoil us with those excellent interpretations of key conversations.

Matias is supposed to be one of the good guys but I find his tantrums infinitely more annoying than Augie's. Augie may be evil, but he's entertaining. You just know that at any moment he could boil over and what fun it'll be when he finally does.

Watching Matias is like having that unpleasant child in your home that you'd probably have pitched in to help with a sitter if given the opportunity.

Didn't Jerry simply guarantee loans made to the company? Boy, how sinister is that? Grow up Matias.

Was Jerry too busy to call Marina and tell her of his change of plans? Jerk.

Every time that Gonzo tries to get Fina to display some manners I have to smile. Good luck with that.

Vivi, thanks for pitching in yesterday. Good job. I was completely taken by surprise with Fina's assault of Coni. Now my money's on a coma followed by a touch of amnesia.

Carlos

Marta, a million thanks for your fantastic recap and stupendous dialogue. You are the queen for sure. Love the title.

Oho, just after I commented about Nata not wanting to admit she is engaged to Augustin and in this episode Jero spills the beans. Boy I sure did not have to wait long for that to get resolved, LOL!! Whoever said that Augi demonstrated a world class pout yesterday was right on. I re-watched and howled with laughter.

JudyB, I'm worried about Doc Tata too. The road between Tijuana and Ensenada can be dangerous as there have been cases of ambushes and carjackings. Oh dear. Jero didn't ask her to pick him up, did he?

So much is happening now what with Regina seeing Pepa but not knowing she is Fina, Cons and Jero being so close to the truth but Cons being out of the picture now, hopefully not permanently.

I must say I enjoyed the phone call between Berta and Sele. We can tell Sele really irritated Berta because Berta called Sele 'estupida'. She always does that when she's frustrated, heh.

Thanks again Marta. What an episode!!

Vivi, thanks for posting.

I don't get the crabbiness about Jero guaranteeing the loan, either, or the "take that!" way they snarl at him that they're going to repay every centavo. Of course he's expecting it to be repaid. It was a loan, not a gift. Why act like it was some attempt at ingratiation on Jero's part? He tried to keep it anonymous so it's obvious he was just trying to be kind and helpful.

Can someone who knows more about viticulture explain about the special vine? Does La Bonita only have the special one in the cage, and Augie has a little cutting he took? How long does it take to get from that to enough vines to be profitable? Are special varieties really so carefully guarded that Augie couldn't just buy his own starters of whatever Rafa got?

Julia, the 'top secret cutting' doesn't make much sense to me either. It seems to me it would take years for one cutting to grow big enough to be able to graft new cuttings of it onto existing root stock. So why does Augustin have to steal the cutting instead of purchasing his own? One answer might be that Rafa kept the varietal a secret so Augi doesn't actually know which type it is. I don't remember if Augi knows the varietal or not. Another reason could be that Rafa was forward-thinking and enough of a risk taker to go to the time and expense of getting the cuttings through customs, so he beat Augi to the punch. It can take a while for plants to go through quarantine and Augi is the impatient sort. Here is an article about the subject:Wine Country's Dirty Secret

Wow..interesting article on suitcase smuggling, Sylvia. Reminds me of that fun movie years ago ("French Kiss"-- Kevin Kline, Meg Ryan) only in that one, the fellow was smuggling a vine cutting from Canada back to France.

JudyB I was thinking the same thing. In fact I am listening to the French Kiss soundtrack right now. It has many great songs on it.
