Cuando Me Enamoro #111 Friday 9/23/11 A Depressing Diagnosis and Details On Doc's Defying Death

Buen fin de semana a todos! A good capitulo combined with a cup of hot cider made my weekend trip home absolutely worth it.

In the leftovers from yesterday, Jero swears that he will prosecute Agustin if he stole any cuttings from La Bonita. Carlos and Matilde plan on having a double wedding with Lazaro and Karina. Jero tells Padre that Doc Invincible is still alive. Augie reluctantly agrees to put off asking Gonzo for Nata's hand in marriage.

On to the main course! Berta fills Fina in on Constanza's condition; she is still alive but can't form any coherent words. Berta is a little put off by Fina's excitement over the news. Now they can move forward with their master plan to hoodwink Regina without interference.

Jero explains the Doc predicament to Padre. The night that oily skunk supposedly died, Jero got a call from the jail. On his not-quite-death-bed, Doc croaks to Jero for help because Augie put the hit out on him. Doc has lots of information about Augie that he could pass along to Jero. "Augie is pulling a dirty trick. He not only wants Nata, he wants everything you own. I have proof." Doc sputters and hopefully chokes on his own blood before their phone call is cut off.

Back in the present, Jero tells Padre that he and the jailhouse doctor faked Doc LousyBum's death to throw Augie's hit-man off the trail. Right now, Doc is the only proof they have of Augie's villainy. Padre promises to keep a lid on it. Given Padre's track record, the whole pueblo will know within hours.

Lazaro asks Ezequiel why he showed him the cuttings that Augie stole. Jero is going to blow his top; there's no way Lazaro can keep it a secret. Zeke's life will be on the line if Laz breathes a word of it to Jero.

Augie accompanies Nata back to Connie's place. Presumably it's no longer a crime scene. At any rate, Augie's possessive side comes out again and Nata almost cringes when he kisses her goodbye. Augie senses that Nata doubts him. He can't put his plans in danger. Augie thinks a fire on Jero's land would be the next best move for him to make but he can't afford to lose his cool yet.

Honorio and Adriana are doing a little better at trying to understand Connie. They make out the words "señora" and "mamá" but are perplexed as to what it might mean. Connie's inner monologue agonizes that no one understands her; their lives could be in danger too. Mercifully, Connie succumbs to sedatives and falls asleep before anyone else can stress her out. Adri convinces Anxious Honorio to leave Connie's side for a while.

Matias goes on the defensive when Chema shows up at the hospital. "Who are you here to see? Connie or Adriana?" Por Dios, Matias, stop making everything about you. Adri and Honorio join them in the waiting room and everyone shuffles their feet awkwardly.

Jero goes into depth about Operation: Doc Ain't Dead. When Karina was told Doc kicked the bucket, Jero went to the jail and found out that Doc was only in a coma. The Jailhouse Doc ends up backing Jero into a corner when he presents Jero with a cooked up death certificate. Jero is uncomfortable being an accomplice to fraud. The plan? If Doc wakes up, they'll give him a new name and transport him to another jail. If not, he dies. Either way, they spared Doc a long, painful death-by-hitman. (Where's the problem in that?)

Jero felt like his hands were tied and had to go along with the plan. He even agreed to help organize the funeral to make it seem legit. They buried a different deceased convict in Doc's place. Padre and Jero are at a loss for what to do next.

Karina asks Lazaro why he seems down in the dumps. He would rather talk about their impending wedding than his problems at the hacienda. Laz suggests they go shopping for wedding rings.

Matias and Honorio gripe about Chema's presence and his relationship with Adri. Hon tells Matias to go after Adriana if he loves her. Matias sulks. He definitely needs some decorations to spice up his pity party.

Adriana fills Chema in on Connie's condition. He cares for Connie as a good friend and realizes that he felt that way for quite a while. It isn't the same as what he feels for Adriana. She asks Chema to leave so they can have this conversation at better time. Chema never meant to intrude and leaves without causing a scene. Matias mean mugs them the whole time from across the room.

Nata steps into the shower and has a good long thought bubble about Jero. She can't forget the wonderful moments they shared but she also can't forget the terrible ones either. Nata remembers how helpful and supportive Augie was after her car accident. Her heart is torn between wanting to run to Jero's side and run away from him forever. Augie has been better to her than Jero ever was; he has been nothing but kind to her.

Chema has a dizzy spell right underneath the Emergency sign at the hospital. If that's not prophetic, I don't know what is. A nurse notices his wooziness and tries to have him admitted but Chema says it's just a migraine.

Berta pays Augie a visit. They must be soul-mates since they are color-coordinated in purple. He wants a little nookie before he heads back to Cruz de Amor. She teases him for not being able to get any from Nata. He criticizes her for not caring about Connie. Berta says that Connie means nothing to her even if she was a mother figure for Nata. Berta gets under Augie's skin by claiming that Nata is using Connie's accident as a pretext to avoid him. Then they fall into bed together anyway.

Padre hates to say it but Karina is still officially married to Doc in the eyes of the church. Jero says they either have to keep the secret or spoil Kari and Lazaro's happiness. Meanwhile, ignorance is bliss as Lazaro and Karina shop for rings. Kari picks one out while Laz tries to buy another one in secret as a surprise for Kari.

That darned Doc moans to the Jailhouse Doc about talking to Jero. Doc swears he is going to use his second chance to make Karina happy. By dying? 'Cause that's the only way to do it.

The oblivious couple run into Padre and Jero outside the church. Lazaro asks Jero to be the best man at the wedding. Jero waffles about having important things to do and Padre acts like an ass when Kari tries to get Jero to explain.

Fina pawns Connie's jewelery for some quick cash.

At the hospital, Connie's doctor finally has a diagnosis. Part of Connie's brain was seriously injured which has caused her to have no control over arms. She cannot hold things or write. Her ability to speak is also severely impaired. Connie cannot communicate using speech because the signal from her brain is not responding. The doctor is uncertain whether Connie's condition will be temporary or permanent. Everyone exchanges concerned and sad looks.

Nata joins the group as Honorio questions the doctor further. He has few encouraging things to say. Recovery time all depends on the patient. Connie will have to undergo both speech and physical therapies and will have to learn to talk again. It can take anywhere from weeks to months or years to reach functionality and there are some who never recover. Despite all this, Connie will get to leave the hospital the next day (that soon after brain surgery?). Nata comforts Honorio as a bumper of a healthier, happier Constanza leads us into the commercial break.

Over at the centro, Regina assures Ines that Connie will recover. Regi will help with Connie's physical therapy in any way she can. Fina calls to torture Regi. "You have less than 24 hours to deliver my money." Regi gives her word that she will meet Fina the next day. Fina teases that she might or might not show up. Ines wheedles it out of Regina that it was Fina who called. Regi admits that Jero loaned her the money to pay Fina. Regi is sure that she will be reunited with her daughter soon.

Hon, Nata, Matias, and Adri visit Connie and actually behave appropriately this time. Nata and Adri are going to stay in the casa to help Connie recover. Hon promises that everyone is going to be very patient in trying to understand when she speaks. Connie smiles and starts to cry from such a show of love.

Berta and Augie freshen up. She hints at knowing something about Nata that will benefit Augie when he finds out what it is. Later, Augie calls Nata and gushes about how much he loves her. Nata admits that she does not feel the same way. Augie has hope she will one day.

Jero checks in with Maritata. He apologizes for getting tied up. Mariana warns Jero that if she is not a priority in his life, they should break things off immediately. Jero missed his plane because of an emergency, not out of disinterest. He wants to begin a new life with her. Mari asks him to promise that if he cannot get over Nata, he has to tell her (Mari). Jero agrees and we end with a kiss.

Avances: Lots of clips of what's to come throughout next week. Honorio emphatically tells Gonzo that Pepa and Fina are the same person (!!!), Jero tells Nata that Fina killed Rafa, Marina asks Jero if he wants to get married, and Augie gets in Jero's face.

Thanks FlordeAmy, I love the alliteration of your telling title and thank you for the succinct and wryly humorous recap. You so describe the heart of each scene so well.

Gracias for such an indepth and quick recap. And the plots go on...and on... or as they say, the plot thickens. I guess the Doc's resurfacing will spell the end to the double wedding, unless Jero decides to join in with Maritata.

I do wonder if both Nata and he will marry again. (Not each other). It could happen. Renata did say she married for love, and look how that turned out. She has a point there.

Thanks again. These recaps are the glue that keeps it all going strong.

Wonderful foggy Saturday morning all! Thanks for the great recap. I liked how they spelled out the whole deal with Dr. Don'tTheyOwna NightShirt and explained how Jero got pulled in. I take it he doesn't know everything that the slime knows yet, so that may still be an eye-opener for Jero.

It does mean there is someone beside Zeke who knows all the dirty on Auggie, but hate what it's doing to Laz and Karina. Laz was so adorable in the jewelry store. Forget the ring (which looked larger than the chip that Nata got!), I'll just take one of Laz to go.

JayGee, I wouldn't be surprised that we see both a "hook up" with Jero and Mariana and heaven help us, a marriage between Nata and Auggie. Seems she would be convinced to take the entire leap for some reason - and I still don't get her reasoning he's been nothing but nice. Why does she ignore those moments of anger and possessiveness? GRRRR! Seems we always get these sub-relationships in TN's before the two major characters finally come back together.

Those previews were nuts. If all that happens next week-my head will be spinning.

Hi Amy. Always love your sass. "Doc Invincible" and "Matias mean mugs..." were a couple of my favorites, plus of course THE BIG D title.

I always shut my eyes during the Alvaro Nesme scenes, but even then, the gagging pretty much made me leave the room! Hope he spills the goods on Augie and then meets his Maker, but alas, he's looking awfully healthy at the moment.

Now Go Bucks! Columbusites have been pretty depressed since last week and the weather today isn't helping.

Thanks Amy. Great recap -- Succinct and witty. I'm grateful for the vocab. I tried to look a couple of those words up in the online dictonary but they were eaither not there or had a vague meaning.

How can Nata not recognize her own revulsion when Auggie kisses or touches her? She couldn't wriggle free fast enough from that good-bye kiss.

You were so on target as usual Amy. I loved your comment about the futility of asking the padre to keep the secret.

I also laughed out loud at your treatment of Matias
-Por Dios, Matias, stop making everything about you.
-He definitely needs some decorations to spice up his pity party.
-Matias mean mugs them the whole time from across the room.
LOL

I'm also glad that they showed how Jero was pressured into keeping the secret about Alvaro. I thought it was in order to get the goods on Auggie. Now we see that it was also pressure from the cops to get Alvaro into some sort of witness protection. The cops seem pretty sure that someone is out to kill him. Do they know for sure or have any proof that it is Auggie?

Is Fina Crazy? Well, yes, she is, What is she thinking pawning Coni's jewelry? That should be easy to trace doncha think???

Looks like a lot of fireworks coming up soon.

Loved your recap, very witty and hit all the highlights.

Ah, Renata finally changed out of the mustard turtleneck and pirate jacket! After 5 episodes! I would like the name of her waterproof make up, it's great.
Lazaro was really cute when buying the rings.
Too bad we have to put up with Dr. upchuck again.
Poor Kari he still loves her.
Poor Connie, almost lost her life and lost all her jewelry.
I think Matias is completely unnecessary in this TN? His only purpose seems to be to irritate me. Actually quite a few people irritate me in the is TN, Augie, Berta, Inez, etc.
Regina irritates me too. I think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.
Well I got a lot off my chest.

Finally, even though Jero was quite a jerk initially, he's so cute, looks so good in a suit and has such a nice haircut that I forgive him. If I was Renata I would run all the way to Ensenada to be with him be fore the Dr gets her Tatas in him.

Great recap Amy. Nicely done. My favorite line:

"Either way, they spared Doc a long, painful death-by-hitman. (Where's the problem in that?)"

My sentiment exactly.

Sylvia put it well yesterday:

"Get a witness, sign a paper, give it to Jero, die."

I wonder what Alvaro did for the prison doctor that makes him feel beholden to him?

Since the Padre didn't know that Alvaro is still alive, why in the heck did Jerry feel obligated to tell him. Couldn't that little detail just have slipped his mind... much like forgetting to tell Marina that he missed his plane?

He didn't object when Marina compromised her medical ethics to help him out... so now he's Mr. Completehonesty?

Carlos

Fl/Am--Can't believe another week has gone by and here I am expressing my undying gratitude for your recap--first class, as always.

Carlos--I didn't hear all the dialog, but I caught something about Prison Doc already having filled out the death certificate; so maybe that has something to do with it. Apparently Nesme came back to life after a couple of cranks on the hot paddles.

As to Dr. Alavaro Nesme's nicknames--I went through the last few episodes (111-105) and here is the list (so far):

Dr. Nasty
Dr. Doofus
Dr. WhyIsHeNotDeadYet

Thank goodness he's absent for a lot of the episodes prior to these. I got tired of typing (they didn't all copy and paste)
NOK

Thanks Amy! Wonderful recap and NOK, what a hilarious list! Love it! Catch up with comments later!

Lila (word verification: eatingly. . .just weird, that's all)

Muchas gracias; great title and great recap. I really laughed at "He definitely needs some decorations to spice up his pity party." Gah, I am so tired of Matias. He's too one-note to even make an interesting minor chord.

Renata is getting a little frustrating, too. Poor tormented lady. She keeps reminding herself that Augie has never hurt her but how can she not realize that she does not like him?

Can't Jero and Padre just surreptitiously get Kari and Dr. Abracadaver a church annulment? Padre has already established there are grounds. Doc is legally dead. Then Kari and Laz could get married in the church, no problem

Great title Amy, and comical detailed recap as usual!

I am usually a silent reader...

I agree with Jaygee "These recaps are the glue that keeps it all going strong".

Loved the Dr List list from Nok...too funny! I was so GRATEFUL that he finally had a gown on covering up his gross tufts of fur.

I am both sad and angry at Regina, I know "she wants her daughter back" but she seems to forget that her baby is now 25 years old ! Not like she is a little girl going to live with her again. Yikes what if she was married with 5 kids living in Des Moines! What would she do then after paying all that money. Sad that she can never get all those years back. She needs to tell Gonzo what's going on.

Also what woman would not want to see what their novio's X wife looks like? Even my beenie is stetched to the limits on that !

Silvia doesn't seem to have good luck in the wardrobe dept. I think she was wearing some strange outfits in MEPS too!
She was on HOY Thursday morning and looked beautiful !

Why did Jero the snitch have to tell Padre that the Dr. is alive?? He really is a nicely dressed idiot! Did he inherit all his money? Because I think he is too dense to have made it all on his own.

Another super recap, Amy!!! Gracias!

Why has Nata suddenly turned into someone who doesn't listen to her own logical thinking?! This is REALLY bothering me.

I also did not like Jero dumping that ice cold bucket of water on Laz and Kari. So what if he knows "The Big Secret". He didn't even bother to act happy at their announcement. That upset me as well, but I think it upset me even more when we saw Jero telling Tatas that he wants to start a new life with her. Then, we get the avances with Tatas talking MARRIAGE.

Honestly, I think I had more disappointment that anything last night as to where some of the characters are headed.

I just hate the thought of Kari going back into that dark and dreary mode of feeling obligated to a jerk who is a drunker abuser.

Is this fair to either Laz or Kari?! NO, IT IS NOT!

This might be the new 'etapa' for this TN, but I certainly didn't feel to happy about it last night.

Thank you again, Amy for your super recap!

Susanita

Julia: Dr. Abracadaver! SUPERB!!!!

NOK: That is one hilarious list!!!

Susanita

Thank you Amy for the great recap and alliterative title. Doc Icky being alive is only going to cause hurt and pain.

ITA w/Susanita in that quite a few characters are headed in really wrong directions.

NOK - your list was hilarious!

Ditto about the list NOK...and now you must add Julia's Dr. Abracadaver!

It's not my list--it's yours, everybody. Reading it myself afterwards, it is pretty good.

Going backwards now it's almost an anti-climax, but I'll persevere.

Please, please don't tell me the new etapa is going to bring Jero and Marina together. I suffered through the Eva Luna - Leonardo (a real slime-bucket) pairing, I don't want to have to go through anything like that again.
NOK

Not much to add. I spent the whole weekend taking part in Peace Corps 50th anniversary activites, hanging out with Haiti Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who are a fun, crazy bunch, and hosting some of said crazy people at my house. I am exhausted! But it was a great weekend.

"Doc swears he is going to use his second chance to make Karina happy. By dying? 'Cause that's the only way to do it."

Amy- This line made me LOL! I also loved the line about Matias' pity party. :) Great recap. Thank you.

Those previews were crazy! I can't believe all that is going to happen this week. Bring it on!

I am not liking seeing Jero smooch on Doc Tatas and talk about a "future" with her. He's so darn happy about it. I know it makes no sense that Nata is insisting on carrying on with this farce with Augie when she has no romantic feelings for him. But honestly, I'm more bothered that Jero DOES have romantic feelings for Marina and is smooching on her, when he should ONLY be thinking about our heroine. Once Jero and Nata eventually get back together, it will be quite easy for them to brush off this craziness of her and Augie getting engaged because it was done out of anger and she never really felt anything for the guy. But how will Jero explain away getting in deep with the good Doc Marina, and enjoying it, and how will he be able to dump her? I would be majorly bothered if I were Nata.

Poor Connie! Great plot device. Glad to see everyone calmed down enough so that they weren't aggitating her.

I also felt really bad for Chema. Here he was just trying to check in on a friend in the hospital, and he gets met by Matias' and Hon's stink eye. And he even helped Hon out the last time he saw him by telling him the truth. Every time this poor guy does the right thing, he gets punished for it. And now he's got this mystery illness, that I am sure will be irriversable by the time he finally sees a doctor about it.

Thanks so much for the list of Doc Alvaro names NOK!

NOK, thanks so much for pulling that list together. A sleazy character brings out the creativity in all of us!

Amy

Amy, what a great way to start my week, your recap and a strong cup of hot tea. You have so many clever comments, starting with your alliterative title, I'm not sure I have a favorite. OK, I think "that darned doc" might be it as well as him dying being the only way to help Kari out.

Kudos to you for translating and unraveling the convoluted plot, such as it is, behind Doc Invincible's pretend death.

So funny how Lazaro kept giving the raised eyebrow to the jewelry store clerk and she's all "huh?".

NOK, what a hilarious list of nicknames!! I'm totally LMAO right now. We have to add Doc Abracadaver to it of course.

Vivi, it sure sounds like you had an exciting weekend. How on earth do you pack all your activities into your life?

Amy, thanks again for your most excellent recap. NOK, you're fantastic for putting our list of brilliant nicknames together, thanks.

Oh no! Juan Soler involved in another "nueva etapa"!! Yikes! The last time that happened (at least for me) it was the beginning of a great novela really circling the bowl (as in toilet bowl)! Are the writers going for a "which leading lady do you think should get the galan?" kinda tease with this story line? I hope not!

". . .well dressed idiot. . ." That's hilarious, elle!

Lila

OK, I'm a commie pig, but I'd still like to see a one-in-a-million outcome with Jeronimo and Marina having the Boda Grande and Renata - you know, cold hard truth is that I don't care about her.

That said, Marina needs to go back to being a grown up instead of the adolescent version we've seen in the last couple of episodes.

I have no idea how the Dr Abracadaver (Bravo! Julia! Es perfecto!) and Kari thing will be resolved. Weird. Though I wish Jero would not have been so troubled by his conscience. Hey, the paperwork's done, right? So the guy's like dead, right? Says so right here on this gummint-issued certificate. Anyway.

Amy, many thanks - as always!

Word verification is "foxyloo" and I ain't gonna go there.

Mike, you got it right: one in a million! Would that a writer, director or whoever calls the shots would have the nerve to do something like that. I, however, would not like the outcome for Renata. . .unlesssss, they want to bring yet another guy into this new etapa!

Lila

How about bring in that lawyer from "Soy Tu Duena"? hee..hee.hee

When are Carlos's brothers and cousins going to show up?! If they're anything like Carlos, Renata and Adriana are set.

But I'm sure we have a need for that handsome rancher/architect/lawyer/whatevertheheckelse from STuD, too :).

OK, ladies, you win. I vote they write in the one, the only, TBLMOE! himself to sweep Renata off her feet.

How's that?

Works for me. He absolutely blows away the competition.

Amen, Sister!

Lila
