Cuando Me Enamoro #135 Thursday 10/27/11 Where sits our sulky, sullen dame, gathering her brows like gathering storm, nursing her wrath to keep it warm.*

*Robert Burns

Today’s title and Dicho of the Day are dedicated to Roberta Monterrubio. Also, not only do we have flashbacks from this novela but we also have flashbacks from another one. Try to keep them straight.

Redux: Jero gets the Ecclesiastical Annulment paper, bummer. Chema’s father Benjamin (David Ostrosky) arrives. Jero and Renata visit the Bishop who is a crossover character from ENDA which I never watched. (I tried to read the plot on Wikipedia and it was very confusing! Apparently one crazy dame kills nearly every other cast member.) He understands all to well that perfidious and homicidal family members can really mess up one’s love life.

Bishop CB tells them that the love of his life was tormented by her own sister for her whole life up to her death. “Her death?” ominously queries Jero. “It’s a long story,” continues the Bishop, “Wanna hear it?”

Bishop CB explains that he was in love with Macarena, a person not the dance. But Big Sis Carlota was in love with him. She couldn’t stand that he only loved Macarena and had a daughter with her. (Yes, I was tempted to say he did the Macarena but I controlled myself.) He was both Padre and Papa, jokes Renata. Then we have a flashback to ENDA when Padre CB explains to Paloma that he is her daddy. Renata says she totally gets it because she has a half sister who hates her guts, oh and so does her own mother. Bishop CB gives his condolences. Jero confirms that Nata has been the victim of her mother’s deep hatred. Bishop CB wants to speak to both of them separately. Nata first.

He wants Nata’s honest reassurance that nobody is forcibly persuading her to take back the annulment. (I like this guy.) She assures not. He says he wants to hear her story, take all the time in the world.

The Doc tells Chema’s dad, Coni and Adri that Chema’s tumor is inoperable, nor is there any other treatment they can do to dissolve it. Also, his blackouts (lagunas mentales) will continue to get worse. To wit, his days are numbered. Coni and Adri weep and dad cries “My son!”.

Fina approaches Blanca and says she’s reconsidered. She’ll need Blanca’s help to get out of there and if they work together they can be out of the joint soon. They verbally dance a weird minuet, both threatening the other in case of betrayal, but eventually agree to become evil cohorts when Blanca assures “Finita” they want the same things, to get out of jail and wreak vengeance on the Monterrubios. Fina says she has a plan but won’t reveal it. However very soon she’ll be on the other side of the bars wearing a snappy little number just like Blanca’s.

The doc recommends that Chema’s dad and friends make his last days the best of his life. No stress or anxiety. He doesn’t know how much time Chema has left, a few weeks or maybe 3-4 months. Adri wants to tell Chema the truth but dad begs them not to. The ladies agree to stand by dad’s decision. (Chema wouldn’t remember anyway and they would just have to keep telling him over and over. Nobody wants that.) The doc plays show and tell with Chema’s X-rays.

Gonzo’s doc tells Matias it’s incredible how Gonzo has improved. He says they are hoping that his reflexes and actions indicate that his body and mind are connected. They’ll have to wait to see how the bullet that’s lodged (alojada) in his head affects him.

Renata has been telling Bishop CB her story. We get flashbacks of Nata and Jero getting married. She says then things changed when they moved to the hacienda; cut to ugly flashbacks of Jero being mean, then a flashback of the harpy in the headband Matilde blaming Nata for Rafa’s suicide. Nata eventually discovered that Jero really hated her. But then Jero got proof that Rafa was murdered by Nata’s mom! Bishop CB advises her that the fight between good and evil exists on earth. Nata cries it’s hard to reconcile that the woman who gave her birth could do such evil. Bishop CB says he can see she has a good soul and she is responsible for her own actions but not the actions of her mother. She knows this but it still hurts.

Renata insists that she is certain Jero is a good person and truly repentant. He was very mad but now she has no doubt of his love. She knows he loves her, just like Mr. Bishop loved...Macarena? Bishop CB softens and explains more about his story, that Carlota pushed Macarena out a window which killed her, but he had enough time to say goodbye to her on her deathbed. Flashback to Macarena’s death scene, Mac asks CB to take care of “her” (Paloma?) forever...flat-line. Renata thanks him for helping her realize she’s not the only one with a truly screwed up family and love life.

Matias flashbacks to his mother’s funeral. Gonzo was there to offer condolences and to tell his son he regrets they have lived apart so many years. But in spite of this they are father and son, both Monterrubios. Blah blah blah. Gonzo thanks God for having a son like Matias. After the flashbacks Matias tells his dad he must recover (recuperar). He wants Gonzo to know his grandkids. Please don’t go papa, stay with me!

Jero is back in the Bishop’s office and Bishop CB asserts he has no doubt that Renata has been the victim in this story. Damn straight! (Oops, sorry Mr. Obispo) Bishop CB tells Jero he looks forward to hearing his side of the story tomorrow. Renata gives Padre Papa (her nickname for him) one of her famous hugs as they Adios. After they leave Padre Papa tells his big crucifix “You’re awesome!”

Berta helps Regina pack for her discharge. Berta offers to drive but Regi says she’ll take a taxi, that way Berta can stick around for dad. Berta admits it’s hard to see her strong papa in such a state. Regi says she’s sure Gonzo is fighting for his recovery. She tells Berta she hopes one day Berta can love her as much as she loves her papa. They hug and I can’t translate Berta’s expression, although sinister music plays.

Nasty Nesme’s spy approaches Carlos and Laz and asks for a job. He claims the world says the bosses at La Bonita are the best and help everyone. Carlos chuckles and says he’s not the boss and unfortunately they don’t need anyone. Laz seems to know the guy, Leon I think, and says normally they hire extras just for the harvest season and it’s over. Spy Guy says he’ll work for free, just food and lodging because he has nowhere to live. He’ll do anything, he’s an orphan and has nobody in the world, please don’t throw him into the street. Laz and Carlos talk while Leon pleads. Carlos relents at last, and he and Laz figure out a place where Leon can work.

Meanwhile Nasty is sucking on his little flask. Right, that tiny thing would last about 5 minutes, max. He must have a quart of tequila stuck down his pants or something. He croaks “Kari, I need you in my life, in my arms. (glug glug) I know I failed you Kari, just give me just one more chance, we could be happy (glug glug).” Gross!!

Nata tells Jero how much she likes the Bishop as they join the others at the hospital. Matias tells Regina that Gonzo is making great improvements. Small talk small talk. Berta says Regi is supposed to go home and get plenty of rest but Regi insists she’s going to home to wash up but then come right back to the hospital. Jero decides to drive Regi home, then Matias decides to go home for a shower, thus leaving the two sisters alone.

Chema’s dad thanks Coni and Adri for respecting his wishes to keep Chema’s terminal illness from him. They assure him that their whole family loves Chema. (Except Matias that is, tee hee.)

Berta tells Nata that she told Fina she never wants to see her again. Nata says she told Fina the same thing. “How are you gonna do that?” smirks Roberta, “after all she is your TRUE mother.” Nata says no duh, she can’t forget that. Berta gets a few more digs in about Fina then says if only Regina had raised her things might have been different. Maybe she wouldn’t have... “Hated me,” finishes Renata, and she flashes back to Berta accusing Nata of stealing everything and everyone from her. Back to present time Nata says Berta never loved her as a sister. Roberta tells Nata “YOUR mother always stood in our way. Do you think now there could still be a chance for us? I’d love to have a good relationship with you.” Renata stupidly relents, admits she’d love it and gives her sister a big Renata hug. Berta sneers over her shoulder and thought bubbles “My hate for you will never end. All the world loves you except for me, and I’m going to pass myself off as Regina’s daughter so they’ll accept me. Never, ever will you know the truth!” Never say never, I always say.

Tony visit Hons to clarify something about Fina. There is another crime that nobody knows about. Fina killed Comandante Cantu because he found out that Pepa and Fina are the same person. At they same place they also found Pepa’s ex-lover and she killed him too. No, Tony didn’t witness it but Fina admitted it to him. Hons gets right on the phone while Tony continues whining about his guilt, boo hoo. Couldn't the bullfighter go to jail for withholding evidence or something?

Berta grouses insensitively about Chema's tumor then takes off. Nata tells Coni and Adri they have to be strong for Chema. They don’t know if they can pull off the happy face charade but they’ll try to pretend everything is normal.

Marina is dressed up super sexy but hurling in the baño, not so sexy. She recalls Alfonsina’s crappy advice to fight for Jero. She says she can’t do it, she knew she was getting into a relationship with a married man. She can’t do anything to harm Jero, nada. She doesn’t look convinced.

Jero brings Regi home. She asks him what it is he wanted to tell her. He takes a deep breath and admits he’s going to have a child. She’s thrilled that she and Gonzo and going to be abuelos. Uh, no, he continues, I’m not having a child with Renata, but with Marina. It is she who is expecting my child. Doh!

Avances: Fina slaps some feathers out of The Goose, then she appears to have a meltdown. Gonzo opens his eyes. Augi pops back into the hospital and has to force a smile when he hears Nata and Jero are about to remarry.

Ooooh! Nice touch with the title! Impressive!

And of course we know who it describes - perfect! Especially the nursing part!

Audrey

Good stuff, Sylvia.

If they ever rerun ENDA I recommend it highly. Leticia Calderon did her first series villana and she was brilliant.

Bloody hell; Mathilda didn't get rid of that stupid headband.

Thanks Audrey, I ran across those lines from Tam o'Shanter recently and thought Roberta! Or Fina! It could also be Blanca!

UA, the plot of ENDA reminded me of an opera. I love opera.

Thanks for sharing even more of your birthday with us, Sylvia! I loved the title. How fitting for Roberta. Also loved the Arbor Dicho of the Day. Somewhat relatedly, I just finished reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (highly recommend), although THAT healthy Dicho would apply more to Renata, and not at all to Roberta.

Do they ever re-play telenovelas? You have gotten those of us who didn't see En El Nombre De Amor the first go-around wishing they could see it now. Maybe thru Daily Motion?

I must sacreligously say the Bishop is muy guapo. Is there a Catholic rule that the hotter the priest, the pinker his adornments?

I wonder what estranged Chema's father from his "excelente muchacho". Chema is such a good kid. I can't imagine a parent not being proud of him. Poor beautiful Chema.

Carlos, what is the survival rate for telenovela induced brain tumors? I hope it is as high as the survival rate for telenovela induced childhood leukemia. Didn't you put that at 90%? I hope he survives and gets a clean bill of health right when Adri realizes she loves him more than Matias. Yes, her ring from Matias is huge, but I still am not thrilled with that relationship. We have seen Matias in the face of adversity and it is not a pretty sight. He has failed the true test of a good person. Too many temper tantrums and chairs kicked over. Maybe he can redeem himself if he is super nice to Chema now.

I am trying to gear myself up for a Fina - Blanca pact! This should be good.

Now, Sylvia, go enjoy the rest of your birthday. Maybe you can have something stronger than iced tea.

Rosemary la Otra

Rosemary LO, I have been enjoying a lovely Sauvignon Blanc this evening. The past two days have been super hectic/busy for me and I am putting my feet up. Ahhhh...

One of the Spanish language channels has been replaying older telenovelas. I wouldn't be surprised if ENDA pops up. It sounds like we should keep our eyes open for it.

Fantastic title Sylvia! Your recaps are always entertaining & informative.

This episode was bizarre , first I saw Padre Cristobal then heard the theme from EDNA & felt like I was in the twilight zone!
It was such a great novela and so many of our current actors were also in it, Chema, his father, Honario Raphael,Inez just off the top of my head !
Are there only 50 actors in Mexico?

I like Marina but her crying about Jero being the "love of her life" and her baby that was made out of a big love is too much for me. She didn't really know him that well or that long. It was LUST Marina !
My husband wants a doctor that dresses like Marina , pushup bras and jingling earrings , Not too distracting!

Is Audri going to play chema's girlfriend just to keep him happy his final days/ weeks /years?

Sylvia- Sounds like you had a lovely, relaxing birthday evening, even while giving us a stellar recap and perfect title.

Rosemary La O- You're thinking like Tia Carlota who tried to seduce Padre Juan Cristobal MANY times, including once in Church while he was conducting mass!

My theory is that Matias will be the one to sacrifice his relationship with Adri for a while, until Chema kicks the bucket. He seems to be realizing what a good guy Chema is and how important he is to the people he loves. I would be less annoyed by this than I was in TDA when this situation came up. I am in disagreement about not telling Chema what he has, but it was his father's decision and not what everyone else wanted. Anyway, it seems like Chema's brain refuses to accept bad news, like Adri breaking up with him, so he probably wouldn't remember. It was so painful to watch him getting his heart broken over and over again by Adri. I don't think I could watch him being told over and over that he's dying.

Elle- I think a lot of TN producers have preferences for certain actors, so it's not suprising that ENDA and CME, which have the same producers and writers, have a lot of the same actors. I ran down a list yesterday of the CME-ENDA actors: Chema, Julieta, Chema's dada, Honorio, Inez, Kari, Lic Soto, Rafa

Busy day today, so I won't be on much. But I'm meeting Emilia and Mike for lunch today!

I believe the reason for the estrangement between Chema and his dad was over Chema's career choice. I think dad wanted Chema to have a straight laced job like a lawyer or something. But Chema decided to be this hippy dippy organic cook who makes food deliveries for charities, and plans to open his own restaurant someday. Dad thought he was doomed to fail and was beign foolish. He probably hasn't tasted any of the delicious feasts Chema has whipped up on the fly for people like Adri.

Can't believe you got up such an awesome recap on your birthday!!! We shouldn't be the ones getting the presents! :) Hope you had an great day.

It was so fun waxing nostalgic with good 'ole Padre, well Bishop, Juan. Brilliant way to get Nata to realize that you can't blame yourself for your family members.
As soon as he brought up Carlotta, I had high hopes that we would do a quick trip back to the women's prison with Fina and Blanca and get to see how our wheel-chair ridden ENDA nut job was doing. Guess different prison, bummer. I recall we left her laying on the ground in said chair. Now that would have been the icing on the cake!

What is it now with every episode we have to have a Doc Tata weepy moment. I'm becoming more indifferent to her constant bemoaning. Is this a setup to having her slowly convince herself to trap Jero. Lord, Jero and Nata better do whatever they need to do to make it official again.

Forgot to add, title was brilliant. Berta's "I'll always hate you" has guaranteed her the anvil. There's no reason for it. She pretty much has everything and if she acted half-way decent people would "love" her too. Done with her.

Hugging my Chema tee. Adri may have to just "play along" with him on the girlfriend front since he's convinced they are together. Lame plot line, and we'll get to see Matias stew, but I still hate they are doing this to him. TN rule upholds - must have tragic good character. Maybe we'll get to see his "heaven moment". That may be fun.

By the way, ENDA episodes are still up on Daily Motion. I know what I'll be doing over the weekend. May just have to catch a few...especially into the second half. Did love Inaki, but I was all about Gabriel (Erick Elias), and his scenes with Cesar Evora are worth a few kleenex moments. I'm prepared!!

Sylvia, you sure deserve that sauvignon blanc. All this and on your birthday too. Love that title! I haven't seen this yet but I'm looking forward to those flashbacks. (looking forward to going backward -- is that an oxymoron?)

Rosemary & Audrey belated happy birthdays. That's a lot of October birthdays in this group. Mine was Oct. 6. It's a great time of the year for a birthday. I love fall -- and I just heard recently that Oct 5 -- the day before mine is the single biggest birthday of the year -- more people born than on any other day. Just count back 9 months --- New Year's Eve.

Güera

Sylvia, thank you for doing this most excellent recap on your birthday. I thought the episode was a non-stop kleenex fest. As usual, you managed to turn sadness into smiles: "verbally dance a wierd minuet" and "harpy in the headband" were my favorites. Your title could not have been more perfect, nor could the ending - your dicho. To me, I felt these captured the essences of Fina and Roberta perfectly.

Padre Juan was the highlight for me. He radiates strength yet a tender kindness. His scene with Nata was amazing. I didn't feel there was any acting - it seemed utterly real.

I totally agree with UA and others that ENDA was wonderful. Very sad though. And, absolutely beautiful music.

Wonderful comments everyone.

I'm also waiting anxiously for Carlos to weigh in. Is there any hope to expect a miracle for Chema?

Diana

Telefutura reruns Televisa novelas that previously ran on Univision. Latele Novela Network -- which you need cable or satellite for -- doesn't run Televisa programs but has novelas from South America. It's currently showing India and Siete Mujeres which are both from Brazil and the Argentine Montecristo and Mujeres Asesinas.

Feliz Compleanos, Sylvia!

Just nippinng in to say I am so proud of Matias-of the gorgeous lashes, for not adding his jealousy to his princess' emotional load.
Readcha later. ♫ ♪

Guera - how can your birthday be Oct. 6th when I thought you were my Aug. 8th birthday bud? Okay... who else here is August 8th? I know there is someone.

It's almost like the writers are overly stereotyping a hormonal pregnant woman with Marina. I agree with Elle that it is over the top. Great love? Sorry, Doc, doing it once on a desk does not constitute a great love. If it did, I'd have had many great loves in my life. j/k about that.

R la O

Elle, if Audrey plays Chema's girlfriend the charade could get a little old if he sticks around for four months. Four. Months. Think about it Adri.

Vivi, when I watch these shows with the same actors I am reminded by some of the old British sitcoms who used the same bucketful of actors over and over again. Not that I mind.

Lunch with Emilia and Mike? Sounds like a blast. Have fun!

daisynjay, Oh I'm sure there is only one prison just like there is only one hospital, one bank, etc. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled for Carloca. She's the one in purple, right?

Güera, I never thought to count backwards for all these October birthdays. In my case my dad got drafted so mom and dad decided it was time to increase the family.

Diana, I absolutely loved the scenes with the Bishop and Renata. She even teased him, wow. The actors have great chemistry.

This episode was a kleenex fest. I fear Chema is toast.

UA, darn, I don't get that channel. There is another one in my area that is showing old telenovelas though. I will keep checking. And thank you for the birhday greeting. It was a very good day and I plan to extend through the weekend.

Bonney, I think Matias will man up through Chema's ordeal. I hope.

Rosemary LO, you almost made me snort my entire cup of tea!! Bwahahahahaha!!! Thanks for the huge LOL. My honey just popped his head around the corner to ask me if I was OK. At least it got him out of bed.

Great recap, Sylvia. I'm glad that you took time out of your special day to bring it to us. I'm happy that you're extending your birthday into the Weekend of Sylvia.

but...

"...harpy in a headband..."?

Rosemary la O, I'm afraid in my experience that TN brain tumors (unless spurious) are uniformly fatal. Can anyone recall an adult with a brain tumor surviving?

(I Miss Chema tee shirts are now ready for shipping.)

The unholy alliance should be fun.

I didn't see ENDA but I'm enjoying the crossover. I suspected something was up when the bishop came in.

Carlos

Thinking about Chema today. Thanks for the estrangement explanation, Vivi. I think it is admirable that Chema chooses to deliver food to charities and embraces organic cooking. His father should have been supportive. If he knew his son, he would know opening a restaurant suits him so much more than being an abogado. Hopefully, given that our sunny dispositioned Chema is not retaining bad news, he will see his dad and have forgotten there was ever a rift.

Oh Carlos, I knew you would hate harpy in a headband but I couldn't resist. Disculpeme por favor!

I had totally forgotten that Adriana has been down this road before -- trying to keep the truth from her dying mother. She looked so sad when she said that.

I'm with you Sylvia on the hug between Berta & Gina. Her expression was hard to read. She really does seem to be starting to appreciate Regina -- even as she plots to deceive her forever. Could ambivalence be the path to eventual ( way down the road) redemption?

Güera

Guera and Sylvia - I would use the word "conflicted" when trying to read Roberta's face when hugging Regina. I am still hoping she'll look at Renata for the great sister and friend she could be, and stop looking at her as the enemy.

The actor who plays Chema was a crooked lawyer in ENDA (he did straighten out in the end). He's a much better person as a chef/produce delivery guy! Too bad his dad can't see that, haha.

I am really enjoying this crossover. Padre JC was one of my favorite characters...a priest with a backbone and some spunk! Plus he's great at giving comfort and convincing people they aren't responsible for the evil things their relatives do.

Is Adri now going to offer to marry Chema while they wait for him to die and don't tell him he's sick? Seems like we've just seen this plotline recently...did Mejía stick his hamhands into our lovely novela?

Thanks for the literary and illuminating recap, Sylvia!

RLO: I agree with you re: Adri and Chema. I just don't like Matias.

Julia: Surely since Adri and Chema have been, according to Chema, an "item" for so short a time that with the little time he has left, it wouldn't be necessary for Adri to think she has to marry him. I hope so anyway.

I'm finally accepting that Berta is beyond redemption. With everything that has happened, the last being her father almost dying, and she still has these evil thoughts, there's probably no hope. I'm not a Berta fan but, considering who raised her, it isn't surprising she's warped beyond help.

Big month for birthdays (my father's was 10/19). Happy birthday to all the October babies.

Robey

Disappointment! Emilia and Mike's train was delayed an hour and I had to get back to the office. So our meeting will be delayed till when they're next back in DC. Since their son lives here, that shouldn't be too far down the road. I can report that Emilia has a nice and warm phone voice, with a lovely southern accent!

Sylvia:

Thanks for a wonderful recap and happy belated birthday. I popped in to CME yesterday after too much work and too much life and...
Voila! Padre Papa indeed. What wonderful scenes with PP and Renata.I agree with all that PP and Silvia have amazing chemistry. She really is a brilliant actress.

Hola to all my dear amigos. I hope to be back on Caray on a regular basis for the end of this TN. I think my life is settling down a bit.

Thanks again to all who are recapping this terrific telenovela! I haven't been able to watch much but your recaps have kept me in the story.

Cheryl and Emilia and Mike--have a wonderful lunch. My best to all,

Elna June

Oops, amiga Vivi:
I thought it was Cheryl who had the lunch appointment with Mike and Emilia! I bet you are all disappointed to miss one another.

Smiles,

Elna June

Oh my - so many birthdays! As a sister to a fellow Libra, wonderful folks born this month!! Hope you all had the best celebrations!

Sylvia - I almost noted "The Purple Queen" when talking about Carlotta. Crack me up someone remembers that as well. Berta seems to favor that color too. Seems to be the designers color choice when they want to show "evil"in a female character. Bummer because I love the color - but honestly could not wear or even THINK if using purple eye shadow for many moons after ENDA.
And a nod to the music...I still have some of the songs in my IPOD. That was one of the best soundtracks!

Carlos - it is with great sadness that I'll put in my pre-order on the Chema tee. Better not even think of doing the same for Laz. Don't want to jinx him.

I have "En Cambio No" on a CD in my car to sing along to while I drive. ENDA did have good music.

I used to wear purple all the time but in the last year or two I've been wearing more blue and green. Gotta fool people into thinking I'm not a villain.

I'm anxious to find out Gonzo's status. I've read a lot of stories of people who survived being shot in the head and the outcome is so varied, from people like Rep. Giffords who needed months of therapy, to people who seem normal but can't recognize other people, to various disabilities. It's kind of morbidly fascinating.

Awesome title Sylvia. You've raised my IQ points up a notch or two just reading that. And I love the arbol dicho, one of the best.

I'm going to join Dr. TaTa's whine fest and say I'm getting a little weary of the flashbacks. I'm ready for a
"4 meses después" and moving the action forward. But wouldn't want to miss a word of your great recap, Sylvia. It was terrific. Have another glass of wine! And celebrate for another week or so....

Just Clarification Please: I thought that The First Mrs. M. died when Matias was a child Then he married Fina and adopted the girls. That was when Matias when away to school because he did not get along with stepmom. Therefor he would have been a child at his moms funeral. I am confused.. Please help.

Elna June! It's great to hear from you. We look forward to your joining in as your life settles down. This is a novela for the wine lovers. Not that it talks that much about wine specifics but the scenery from the actual Baja wine country is stupendous.

Vivi, such a shame that you were not able to hook up with Emilia and Mike. I was able to meet them for coffee one afternoon and it was such fun. I hope to see them again sometime and spend more time with them. They are even more delightful in person than they are in their comments.

Julia, I am also very interested in how they will deal with Gonzo's head injuries. His poor sister has just gotten her speech back, what will he have to deal with?

Conflicted. Yes, that is a great word to describe Roberta's face in that one scene. She might feel conflicted but she always reverts to her mean, spoiled self in her actions.

Anon, Gonzalo and the first Mrs. M were divorced and she moved to Spain. After Gonzo married Fina, Matias went to live with his mother. She didn't die until he was an adult.

Fabulous recap, Sylvia. I'm also a big fan of your title -- so very apt.

But am I the only one who was reminded of early David Lynch last night -- malevolent dwarves, loonies weaving about in long, white gowns, demon doctors who won't die, a hunky bishop dropping in from another story ...?

PS Happy belated Birthday Sylvia!
Sorry I forgot earlier.

I forgot about Carlotta and her evil purple clothing & eyeshadow, too funny! I would put my money on Carlotta anyday in a evilfest showdown with Fina or Blanca.
I also forgot about Kari, Julietta & Soto being on ENDA also.
Thanks Vivi!

It reminds me of Old Hollywood when the studios "owned" the actors and put them in all their films. Margaret Dumont was one of my favorites, in Marx Bros & WC Fields films( I'm not that old just like old movies!)

I have to FF all of Dr. Drunk-o-the clown scenes. ENOUGH ALREADY!

Novela Maven, no I hadn't thought of David Lynch, but your description certainly of our novela certainly makes it sound surreal enough. I don't know if you consider Wild At Heart one of his earlier films, but it reminds me that we can add homicidal mother to your list.

Yes, Sylvia, homicidal mother definitely heads the list.

I was thinking of "Twin Peaks" -- his eerie, surreal tv series that had the Maven household spellbound in the days before my telenovela obsession took over and my tv could only speak Spanish:) That's roughly the same vintage as "Wild at Heart", isn't it?

Yes, I just checked IMDB and Twin Peaks aired in 1990, the same year Wild At Heart was released. I also read that David Lynch "Has a taste for...a polarized world (angels vs demons, Madonnas vs whores), and debilitating damage to the skull or brain." I'm not sure what to say about that, except that it sure sounds like CME!! I think you called it amiga.
