Una Familia Con Suerte #3 Thu 10/6/11 Pancho gets thrown out of Avon and is then offered the presidency.
- Fernanda arrives at Avon with a new puffy hairdo and a snazzy scarlet dress, and gets complimented on her "nuevo look." She has a meeting with Rebeca Reviño, who has gotten huge breast and butt implants since the last time I saw her in a telenovela. Rebeca is Fernanda's friend and confidante, and Fer is trying to lure her into coming back to work at Revlon. Rebeca doesn't want to because she doesn't want to see that skunk Veents (he must have done something lousy which we'll hear about eventually), so Fer plays the cancer card, "I'm dying, you need to come back and help me." Rebeca agrees.
Fernanda thought-bubbles sadly about her nephew Vince - he has everything, money, power, but he can't wait to take over her business. We see this confirmed when Vince's creepy lawyer friend Enzzo Rinaldi, father to the yukky snobby Monica (who is currently going out with yukky snobby Freddy but we sense that won't be lasting long...), comes to visit. A scantily clad bimbo minces in and says: a very "folklorico" guy is making a scene in the lobby. The dastardly duo dream of the day in the near future when Vince will be Pres and Enzzo will be Vice-Pres. Vince tells Enzzo they shouldn't put on their party hats just yet because auntie still isn't dead.
As if Fer can hear them panting for her demise, she decides she'll teach Vince a lesson. She compares him unfavorably to the noble yet humble Pancho Lopez and tells Rebeca about the enchanting casa popular: "They all yell, they all talk at the same time, but they love each other, they're so full of life!" - After Candela shows Pancho the lady he saved on the cover of Forbes Magazine, proving she is a millionairess and owner of a huge business, he gets it in his head that Fer was messing with him and lying to him and in high dudgeon goes with Chela to Avon to yell at her. They don't get any farther than the lobby where Pancho lectures loudly on the socio-economic dialectic. The security guys throw him out and his car is almost towed but he charms the tow-truck guy out of it.
- He and Chela go home. Chela is very jealous of "la flaca" (the skinny one) Pancho was eyeing in the lobby (Rebeca of the giant implants). He is amused and tries to kid her out of it. He gets registered mail - it's from the evil lawyer Enzzo: if Pancho doesn't pay up they'll all be out on the street. He and Chela start planning the festival that's supposed to pay the mortgage. Isn't that like having a bake sale to pay for college? He'll let everybody in for free anyway, I'm sure.
- Again Lupita kisses her boyfriend Tomás on a dark street corner but won't let him fondle her pleasure mounds. Her friend warns that remaining a virgin until you marry is old-fashioned and if Lupita won't put out, Tomás will find a girl who will, and in fact he already has one - he is macking in the back seat of a car when his buddy Pepe comes looking for him.
Tomás pushes the girl down to hide her (since no doubt his buddy Pepe would be irked by the wriggling, after all Lupita is his sister). All three (the girl hidden) go to a club where I think Tomás gets rid of Betty, the back-seat floozy. He tells her that Lupita is the "cathedral" while she, Betty, is just the chicken shack. - At the club the awful Freddy, his friend Alex, and the awful Monica are already enjoying the pleasures of urban youth. Alex asks Freddy why he's with Monica - Freddy explains it's because she's of the proper financial background and "our fathers want to see us marry." The friend points out that love does not seem to be part of the equation.
I believe the fresas and the nacos are about to have some more face time at this disco. - After hearing that Pancho had come to see her and been thrown out, Fernanda goes to his house. He is in high dudgeon but she charms him out of it and soon they are knocking back tequilas.
She offers him the presidency of her company, telling him he's a natural leader and has the qualities she needs - qualities like integrity. He points out he's a vegetable peddler and might send her company into the abyss. She says he doesn't have enough faith in himself, he says he's a realist and turns down her offer as the episode ends.
The preview for tomorrow? It was the recap we'll see at the beginning of tomorrow's episode - in other words, they show us again what we already saw today and which we will see yet again at 8:02 tomorrow night. Over to you, Julie!

"Fresas" and "nacos" - in the parlance of The Outsiders, those are "socs" and "greasers."
I agree with Pancho - what could he possibly know about running a cosmetics company?

I know I'm going to seem obsessed about hair, but what in the heck is with the cornrows on the starboard side of their heads and normal hair on the port side? First Tomas and now Lupita's friend. Is the friend Tomas's sister? His hairdresser? Well whatever, Tomas is a creep.
I think Pancho, humble as he is, fancies himself to be quite the entrepreneur. I laughed when Fernanda told him he was intelligent, a natural, and he quickly answered "of course".
Wow, no kidding about the Avon product placement. It blows the Garnier product placement in CME right out of the water.
Thanks again for the wonderful recap. Why aren't more recappers glomming onto this one? It's tons of fun and great fodder for good-natured snarkiness. It definitely reminds me of Juan Querendon. Hopefully Mayrin Villanueva won't be the harpy on jet fuel in this one that she was in JQ.
"Pancho lectures loudly on the socio-economic dialectic"...great way to synthesize what was a long stretch of garble to me.
I think Mayrin had the bust implants in Juan Querendon but the butt additions are new. Ah, the eternal quest for body betterment.
Sylvia, I have to agree with you on the hair. It only looks a little skanky on the girl (who seems skanky enough anyway), but Thomas looks like someone played a trick on him while he was passed out drunk or something.
Also speaking of hair, I liked Fernanda's better before the makeover, though I'll admit the more modern new hairstyle makes her look younger.
I was a huge fan of Vicki-Vicki-Vicki from Hasta que el dinero--now Chela. I loved when they were yelling in the lobby at la flaca--that was pure Vicki.
Also--the other woman in the family (I think it is Pancho's sister?), is that Karin from Hasta que el dinero?
The timing of this show is perfect--my Spanish class ended recently and trying to keep up with Pancho's rapid dialogue will be a good challenge.
Looking forward to all your funny recaps.
Re: Mayrin, I don't understand why exceedingly beautiful woman have to artificially mess with themselves. I guess physical beauty doesn't necessarily align with inner confidence.
I'm not sure what the standard timetable is for weekend recaps these days, but I won't be home this evening, so tonight's recap probably won't be done until Saturday or Sunday. (However, I have a sneaking suspicion that Pancho ends up taking the job after all.)
as to tomas'hairdo: asymetrial hairdos are all the rage among the young folks in big cities. some of them actually share one side, and dye the other some outrageous color!

(Not that there isn't enough trouble brewing already!)
I'll have the recap up tonight.
