Cuando Me Enamoro #120 Thursday 10/6/11 The Tragedy of Love is Indifference*

*Somerset Maugham

Alternate Titles: 1) People need to talk but nobody does, 2) Renata reluctantly agrees

Redux and to quote Marta: Marina arrives at Jero’s… he is surprised she is there. She wants the truth from him. He takes a deep breath before dropping the bomb… My heart, my body and my soul want to be with Nata.

Tonight we continue with a lot of “I’m sorry to hurt you” and “I had to know the truth” and sad, understanding smiles. Maritata was hoping there would be a space for Them but she wants him to be happy. She’s going to return to Ensenada to care for her uncle but then...who knows? Good luck with Renata, Maritata says, imparting a love’s lost kiss on his cheek. She leaves and sobs outside the door as the loud music drives out any sympathetic thoughts we might have for her.

Ezequiel approaches Lazaro for his help with Augustin’s latest demand. It’s not an easy vine shoot problem like before. This time it’s a real toughie (algo bien grueso).

Jero calls Nata, he wants to see her tomorrow, please it’s super important he urges. Renata reluctantly agrees.

Back to weepy and top-heavy Doc BalconyBoobs perched precariously at the top of some stairs. She sobs she has lost him but she loves him so. Step back you fool!!

Nata’s phone rings again and this time it’s Augi calling to offer his apologies for his last phone call, excusing himself because of his fury. She wearily manages to get a dig in about his jealousy along with her forgiveness. She says they Need To Talk. He doesn’t get the hint and changes the subject back to himself, griping that Arely was the wine saboteadora, no doubt due to her jealousy about their relationship. The nerve, and after he was such a gentleman with her! (Ha!!!) She does a little “I told you so” about Jero being the culprit but this only sets Augi off on more Jero-bashing. He says Renata is his highest priority and as soon as he cleans up this wine mess he’ll head out to the DF. Good because, she repeats, they Need To Talk. She removes her ring and thought bubbles she doesn’t want to hurt Augi but she still loves Jero and she’s got other plans independent of Augi’s.

Over at La Bonita Carlos pleads with Mati to stop harping about that curse crapola. The padre just has the flu; loosen the headband and get over it. Aw shucks and all right, she agrees. Laz and Ez stride in and want to talk to Carlos pronto!

It’s nighttime in the DF where Matias and Adri discuss their trip (to the Sea of Cortez!) and relationship. He wants her to talk to Chema before they leave. Oblivious of the anvil, they enjoy some sweet kisses and face caresses.

Laz sneaks into Arely’s room and wakes her up. He grabs her watch from her nightstand, says he’ll explain later, get dressed, no noises or lights, and trust him.

At the hospital Berta, Gonzo and Regina happily inform Renata that Berta will be rooming with Regina for a while. Nata’s not super excited about this and says she was planning to look after sis. Regina gushes that they should all stay at her house and remain united. Berta urges sis to come, she needs Nata now more than ever and it will be an opportunity for Berta to start making amends. Renata reluctantly agrees.

Under cover of darkness and the well-lit courtyard, Laz and Arely jump into the SUV and speed off. Herminia, peeking out the curtains, wonders what’s up with that?

Next morning Mati asks Herminia if she’s seen Lazaro, his bed hasn’t been slept in. Herminia looks abundantly guilty and shrugs. Mati prods, Kari sneaks up behind and Herminia spills, Laz left with Arely last night. “What? Where?” demands Kari, “No puede ser!!” she cries, dashing out of the room. Mati scolds Hermi for being chismosa. Sheesh, she just told the truth.

Ez visits Augi in his office, looks around suspiciously, and tosses Arely’s watch on the desk. Doesn’t el patron recognize it? It’s Arely’s, proof as it were. Augi asks how Ez did it. Ez nervously recounts the faux fable (fábula falsa). She was going to return to the DF last night so he had to act. He went looking for her pretending it was a chance encounter. He offered her a ride to the airport and she accepted. They stopped at a cliff to check the lights of the car, then he bonked her on the head and dumped her and her suitcases into the sea. We see a split screen of Laz and Arely throwing her suitcase into the inky black bay. Augi cheerfully observes not many have the cold blood it takes to do what Ez did. He says Ez is the only guy he can trust and pushes a big wad of cash his way. Ez says the money’s not necessary, he did it to prove Augi could trust him. Augi makes him take it and, alone, says “One less problem in my life” as he casually tosses the watch aside and gets back to his paperwork.

Laz puts Arely, now in traditional dress, onto the bus where she thanks him profusely. He says what she can do for him is to take care of herself and go someplace where Augi can never find her. (Which begs the question, why did she bother to show up in the first place? Don’t bother trying to answer, it’s rhetorical and we know why anyway.) She promises that Augi will never hear about her so Ez is safe. She plants a real, live kiss on him before he leaves, prompting him to kiss his rosary. (Funny! Did he ad lib that?) How many of us really believe she is gone for good?

Carlos calls Jero to give him the skinny on Arely. Jero angrily says Augi is much worse than they ever imagined. I think he says that every time they discuss Augustin.

MariTata, thankfully having avoided a fall down the stairs of doom, confirms that the padre has the flu and says he must rest for at least two weeks. She hands him a mask and we get a short PSA about contagion. He’s sure Matilde will die because he can’t perform her ceremony. Maritata sadly comments she will stay to help him. Nosy Padre suspects she’s sad about Jero and she confirms they are finished, “Terminamos.” But she’s not returning to the DF, at least not while Padre is sick.

Back in the DF Fina, in sixties mod cum Mao cum workout disguise, hands a letter to her reluctant accomplice Nurse Raquel. Raquel says she heard Fina is a murderess. “Lies, all lies,” insists Fina. She greases Raquel’s palm with cash (lana) and nursie takes the note for Roberta.

When Berta is alone Nurse Raquel gives her the letter which Berta feebly tries to refuse but can’t resist reading. “Roberta, blah blah blah you don’t know how much your rejection pains me. We are together in this business and don’t even think about betraying me because you know very well if you do you’ll lose everything! Love Mommy”

Adri shows up at Chema's and tells him they Need To Talk, to finish the conversation she started the other day before he got sick. What? he says, he doesn’t remember it at all. Uh, whatever, she says, can they go for coffee now so They Can Talk? Well, he’s busy now but what about tonight at her place? (NO! Talk NOW you dumb bunny Adri. It’ll take 30 seconds tops.) But no, she agrees to meet the guy-who-remembers-nothing tonight. At her place. He says he will be there. He won’t remember. Gah!

Nata walks in and sees Berta’s letter. Berta quickly rips it to shreds vowing she doesn’t want to see her mother ever again. “All it said was lies, pure lies like always!” she insists. They bond about being daughters of a murderess. Nata says their mom is a killer whot kept her from the love of her life. Berta rudely throws all the pieces of paper all over the floor so the nurse can pick them up and put them in the wastebasket located next to Berta’s bed. Nope, our entitled Berta has not yet progressed much. Berta suggests Renata forget Jeronimo and find someone whose brother their mother hasn’t killed.

Over at LA BONITA Doctata meets with Carlos and Mati to tell them about Padre’s influenza. He’s out of commission for 15 days and they should look for another padre to marry them on Saturday. Mati’s indignant, no way will she be married by another, tell the padre to take care of himself and they’ll get married at the end of the month. “End of the month?” murmers Doc MissedAMonth. “we’re already in the middle of the month and...” And what, says Carlos. “We’re in the middle of the month and I’ve missed my period,” thought bubbles Doc BunInTheOven. Carlos gazes at her suspiciously as she quickly exits.

Evil Berta starts working on Renata’s fears. Berta says at least she can’t have children so they won’t inherit mommy’s evil. She suggests Nata avoid Jero, just imagine if she has a child who ends up damaged like their mom! Nata sighs that evil isn’t inherited. Maybe not, says Berta, but some flaw could get passed on. And she can’t avoid the fact that their mom killed Jero’s brother. Renata should leave Jero in peace so as to avoid their future fights. He’ll find it very difficult to forgive and overcome the murdering mother part of the family. Berta insists she has no doubt that sooner or later Jero will blame Renata. (Again, I add.)

Nurse Raquel brings the ripped up letter to Fina and reports her sister was in the room and Berta is getting released in just a couple of hours.

Berta gets Renata to leave the room so she can make a call on Renata’s phone. She calls Augi, “Ha, fooled you! It’s the evil sister.” He reports that Adri has Berta’s phone and told him she was in the hospital. Berta says he needs to get his buns down the DF pronto because Renata’s in bad shape about mom and is making noises about having kids with Jeronimo. He says he now understands Renata’s existential crisis. (Hee!) It’s over Berta’s head and she says Huh? Just get down here. He reminds her to erase the call and she mutters “Duh, estupido!”

Kari is crying to Alfonsina about Laz and Arely sneaking out the night before. They man bash and assume the worst. She’s going to see the Padre because she suspects he knows some secret and she wants to know the truth.

Mati, in spite of her support for the padre, is now crying because their wedding is postponed. Carlos comforts her as Laz walks into the room. Mati immediately forgets her grief so she can jump up and give her brother some of his own. Where did he go last night with Arely? Laz insists he’s done nothing to be ashamed of. Then why did Herminia see them sneaking out and why didn’t he tell anyone, she demands? Carlos says they wanted to tell her but ...listen up and not a word to anyone!

Augi and Ez are inspecting the vines which seem to be improving. Ez says he’ll keep an eye out for further outbreaks. Augi wonders if there has been any gossip or news about Arely’s accident. Ez says he doubts anyone will find her. Even better, laughs Augi who is now in a good mood. He informs EZ he’s heading off the Mexico City to take care of his priority Renata. He trusts Ez to take care of his vineyard and Ez breathes a sigh of relief at Augi’s departure.

Kari visits the Padre who is dutifully wearing his mask. She reports she’s living with Alfonsina because of Lazaro. He’s been catting around (andar coscolino), that’s why Padre suggested they not marry, right? Padre’s all “Huh? No!” He scolds her for thinking that of Laz. “Then why did you advise me to postpone our wedding?” she demands.

Ack! Cut to Doc ShouldBeDead over at the prison hospital. He’d rather stay in hospital instead of going back to jail, but the real doc says Doc Ick is fine and it’s time to call Linares.

Short scene with Carlos and Mati in the office, kissing and loudly promising to keep Arely’s secret, when the phone rings. It’s the prison doctor; Carlos gets rid of Mati so he can talk. The real doc tells him that Doc Ick is ready to go back to prison in a couple of days. Doc IWannaBeFreeToDoEvil writhes in bed, no doubt plotting his escape.

Regina, Gonzo and Jero receive the DNA results. Dum da dum....drumroll please.

“Thank you God,” gushes Regina, “after 25 years I finally know my daughter is alive and I can hug and kiss her. She has a name and I have the privilege of knowing her.” Jero can’t stand it and asks the Drama Queen who is her daughter, Renata (hopeful smile) or Roberta (frown)? “My daughter is...my daughter is...ROBERTA!”

Avances: Fina, disguised as a hayseed, smacks her maid and skulks around.

Dicho of the Day:
Donde fuego hubo cenizas quedaran = Where there was once love, some still remains. (lit. Where there was fire, ashes remain.)

Vocab:
acantilado = cliff
algo bien grueso = a really a tough one (problem), something rather difficult
andar coscolino = catting around, flirting, demonstrating loose morals
fábula falsa = tall tale, faux fable, lie
lana = cash (lit. wool)
rechazo = rejection
Terminamos = We’re finished.

Ok, Cap'n...tonite, I have it right! Excellent recap! Loved "Doc BalconyBoobs"!!!! Loved it!! Also loved your title. Perfecto!! The vocab you provide for us is always appreciated. :))

Justin.tv didn't have Univision Pacifico until the very last 15 minutes of CME, so only saw the last 10 mins.

Somebody...PLEASE, please, please SLAP Regina in the face until the cows come home. This woman is CLUELESS! The Scarecrow is smarter than she is. OY!!

So, Roberta is a candidate for being reformed? Really? I'll believe it when I see it.

...and Doc of the Grand Tetons...I will really throw up if she turns up pregnant. Surely, the writers aren't going to do this to us...are they?

Gracias, Cap'n!!

Susanita

Susanita, I'm afraid with all the in-our-face clues the Doc of the Grand Tetons is most likely preggers. It is still too early for Renata and Jero to hook up so something's gotta get in the way. And that something will likely be a baby bump, darn it!

What a bummer you only saw the last 15 minutes! Not that much action happened though, just lots of blabbing and whining and kvetching.

I suspect you are probably right, but gosh darn it! I don't want this to happen. Between Roberta and her continued lying; Augustin and his out of control anger and manipulation; a preggers Doc of the Grand Tetons is the last thing Renata needs.

Glad to hear that I didn't miss too much. I hope Justin.tv won't let me down tomorrow!

BTW, love your avatar. That cake makes me hungry every time I see it!

Susanita

Sylvia, I enjoyed your wonderful recap along with a fresh, fragrant cup of coffee. I always anticipate your recaps and the way one delicious line segues into the next: “But no, she agrees to meet the guy-who-remembers-nothing tonight. At her place. He says he will be there. He won’t remember. Gah!” Capturing that we are driven to distraction by characters delaying important conversations that must take place before that storyline can proceed was outlined perfectly in your alternate title: “People need to talk but nobody does”.

I think my favorite line was your description of tonight’s episode: “Fina, disguised as a hayseed, smacks her maid and skulks around”. I literally laughed out loud – that was great. Of course your vocabulary and dicho were marvelous and greatly appreciated.

Is anyone surprised Regina thinks Roberta is her daughter? There will likely be much angst before the truth is revealed.

I have to give Arely props for planting that kiss on Laz. She did it in a playful way and I don’t think she did it to hurt anyone but just went for it. I also wondered if Laz’s reaction was scripted or impromptu. I think without Kari, they would have been a good match. And I agree, I think she might return before the end.

I think the doc taking care of “DocShouldBeDead” might be a good match for the Doctora. Hmmm.
Thanks again Sylvia.
Happy Friday all!

Diana

Oooh...love that elegant title Sylvia. Somerset Maugham..way to go amiga.

You were on fire with your Doc monikers too. My fave of all is DocBunInTheOven, though I'm horrified by that plot turn.

Does this mean we'll have a madre soltera who dies and Renata and Jero end up raising the poor orphaned baby?! Ugh and double ugh.

If I had my druthers this would be a shorter telenovela and we'd get these infernal impediments to romance out of the way faster. As for Regina, I just have to shut my eyes when she's on the screen, she annoys me so much.

Clearly we're at that extended part of the story where I turn into a Ms. Crankypants again. Better get myself some cognitive therapy and just belt up.

Thanks Sylvia. Always a fun ride with you.

Sylvia- I loved that title. So poetic and so true for our characters.

Of the three "Talks" (the I'm going to dump you talks), only one of them happened because Marina took the bull by the horns and flew herself to D.F. to hear it from Jero. If she is pregnant, I don't know what is going to happen, because it's not a fake pregnancy or a pregnancy from some other guy, and Marina is a good person. This is not the norm. What will she, Jero and Nata do in this situation? Has there been another tn where the galan really DID get someone, who was not the heroine, pregnant and she had his baby? In some ways it would make sense because Nata would be forced to deal with the same situation Gina did-- finding out her husband had gotten another woman pregnant. You know how tns like to draw these parallels.

As for the other two "Talks", Augie knows what is coming and will try to find any way he can to divert Nata's attention or throw her off the break-up track somehow. And Adri should forget about her "Talk" with Chema and get him to a doctor since the guy is blanking out whole evenings. This is not normal. Even for the most absent minded person. Or she could just pretend he imagined the whole kiss and I have feelings for you conversations, since he's already so confused anyway. At this point he MUST know there is something seriously wrong with him. He looked worried for a brief moment when Adri mentioned the visit he didn't remember, and then tried to play it off. Is he too macho or too scared to go to a doctor?

Great job, Sylvia. Excellent!

So Marina's pregnant?

Surely a beautiful white mare and several scruffy burros are snorting sighs of relief.

She's a doctor for goodness sake.

So Arely has safely disappeared? Well thank goodness something good has happened.

So now Renata is taking couples counseling from Roberta? I guess Selene was all booked up.

Now, what with Mati's curse and all, I expect the Padre is about to experience the worst case of flu... ever. I guess they don't have Flumadine or Symetrel in Mexico.

Looks like Chema's toast and Blanca has been reactivated... was there any good news last night? Oh, I forgot... Arely's safe.

("...listen up and not a word to anyone!")

Carlos

Sylvia--No wonder you are the Cap'n. Our ship is currently pointing into a storm but you make it sound like fun.

I'm going to hold out for a red herring. There are other reasons why a woman misses a period. Not good reasons. Maybe this is one and being a Doc, there'll be a self-diagnosis. She certainly did look concerned when she realized she was late.

Carlos--Ha! No way. My eggs have expired. Got two to grow to maturity and now I'm a grandma.

Off for a weekend of fun. You all enjoy and I'll read the rest of the comments later.

As always, Sylvia, making my Friday morning great. Had to get up early to send out some reports, but working from home and kicking back now with this awesome recap.

Loved the "Doc BalconyBoobs". That had to be the best one yet for our lady Doc. So not happy about the pregnancy turn, and so weird because they really never showed or inferred that Jero and she had turned that corner. I guess talking about living together should have been a clue...Kind of a tired plot line and had hoped better from these writers.

But I like your parallel idea Vivi. That really would make sense why they are going down this road...don't like it, but explains it better.

As for Berta - man, you just can't keep a spoiled brat down can you? Even if she throws Fina over, she's still not looking to end her manipulating ways is she? And Nata just needs to STOP listening to these people!!! Evil genes...honestly.

Well, we had our Arely sighting for plot purposes and off she goes again.Loved loved the Laz reaction to the kiss.Guess we need to ratchet up the "kill" numbers for Augs, even if he doesn't do it himself, so we can justify whatever end he gets. Why can't he add Doc I'mSoSickOFHisFaceAlready to that list!!!???

Poor Jero - he was so deflated at Gina's news. He wanted Nata away from Fina, and now she appears to be the true daughter. Hello people....why would Fina have treated her REAL daughter like crap for so many years. Beanie is on overload with these people. Even Gonzo should know better...

So Nata is moving in with Gina and sis, Adri is heading to a love tryst, uh convention, so who's with poor Coni?? I mean Adri will probably not wind up going becuase we can see the windup to a disaster with Chema (can't remember things now and he's still doing the eye thing- I'm hugging my Tee), but they don't know that. Was just wondering....

I have a feeling I'm going to need to lay in some serious antacids to deal with the Gina/Berta plot as it unfolds next week. Gina will probably go into saccharin mode dripping sweet nothings all over Berta.

I'm with you Judy, would have been happy to just start moving to the end now instead of conjuring up a bunch more impediments to out lovebirds...as long as this doesn't take a serious downhill TDA route, I will try to deal with everything we get. And if continues to make Augs blood vessels burst, that's not so bad....

Off for more coffee, kitty has curled up in my freshly dried basket of towels and I don't have the heart to move her. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

ok, Carlos... you get the 'DUH' award of the year... 'don't tell a word to anyone!'... to Mati?? Mati... lets say if there was a 'gossiper' award in the town, she would win by a landslide... so how 'good' would be a promise of hers to 'not tell anyone'... ??

dand yes, Adri, should have used the chance and got it over and done with. Remember Matt is very ansi about going public with your relationship again and he is not to blame for your 'undecisiveness'. So should have taken the bull by the horns like Dr Tata and done it and ya!
now Chema's 'health issue' will come to light before you get to talk to him.

Cap'n Sylvia... great recap! Still laughing at some of the snark...

Good morning everyone. Like most of you I am a bit baffled by this Marina-missed-a-month plot twist. Jero and Marina were definitely getting cozy but the writers never showed us an overt passion scene. Maybe that is symbolic.

JudyB, I truly hope we don't have a madre soltera who ends up dying. I like the character of Marina and I would hate to see her get bumped off just because she's inconvenient.

Vivi, wouldn't it be interesting if Marina *is* pregnant and she and Jero just has to deal with it? The parallel to that could be Adri's mom who became pregnant with her one true love (Hons) but never told him. I think Marina is more up front than that.

Diana, I like your idea about Marina getting her own version of Hernan the Galan. The prison doc seems pretty nice but I think Marina likes her men a bit spicier. Hey, we haven't met Carlos's brothers yet, have we?

Carlos, not much good news last night I'm afraid.

And Marta, if anyone told Mati a secret they might as well tell the Padre too. You get my drift.

OK, I might believe that Chema forgot he made a cappuccino for Adri, but how could he forget a whole table full of empanadas and sweet treats? Did he eat them all and forget that too? That boy ain't right.

I had to read all comments hoping I was not the only one lost w/the prego part. It's never even been implied that Jero & MariDoc took it to that level. If anything, after any kissing scene he would think of Nata.
I researched in esmas blogs and they too were furious as to why they would just add that to the story. I guess is their way of extending it but still...that's major. At least they should have had Jero really mad at Nata and then out of despecho. So disappointing! :(

Yesterday I spent the whole day at the White House and on Capitol Hill, with Jill Biden and Shakira, among others, for the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. Shakira is one of the newly elected commissioners. The day was spent speaking about the educational, and other, challenges facing Hispanic youth, and tapping the minds of the country’s leading experts in the Hispanic community. Great discussions. The evening was the swearing in for the new commissioners, including Shakira, and a nice reception with food from across Latin America. Shakira gave an eloquent speech on the educational challenges and opportunities for Hispanic youth and spoke about the 15+ years she has been focusing on this topic throughout the Americas. I was impressed. Here are my fuzzy camera phone pics. The one I took of the Univision reporter wouldn’t download for some reason, but you can see Jill and Shakira: http://on.fb.me/rfiflJ

One two three four
I declare a bra-strap war.
Matilde, Areli, Marina, Kari. Someone please send them a pack of those little gold safety pins.

What a fun re-cap of a dreadful night. Step away, indeed, DocBalconyBoobs! So funny!

I am worried that Judy may have it right with poor Marina dying. Remember the dream interpretation after Renata's dream about Jero and Marina marrying?

This would play into Renata's heart problems. Maybe when they find out about her heart problem they will say she can't have a baby.... or maybe she'll have her tubes tied thinking she is Fina's spawn?

It looks like the DNA place returned the toothbrushes. Let's hope Gonzo sees those and recognizes Fina's handwriting and insists Regina not trust her, and have another test done.

Can't wait for tonight as Sylvia's description of the avances is very intriguing. Hayseed Fina. Poor Eulalia. Of course we couldn't miss Renata's blubbering. Does this mean her meeting with Jero will bomb?

Rosemary la Otra

May I add.... I would love to have Vivi's job! Good for you, Vivi!

R la O

Sylvia thanks for your recap. I too am disappointed with Doc Tatas potential pregnancy. And I think I'm even more disturbed by Judy's prediction she might die. This all seems like another unfortunate example of why tns should not be extended.

Vivi - thanks for sharing the story and pics. Your job sounds very exciting.

"Vivi, wouldn't it be interesting if Marina *is* pregnant and she and Jero just has to deal with it? The parallel to that could be Adri's mom who became pregnant with her one true love (Hons) but never told him."

Sylvia- Yes. Although we joke about it, there IS a continuing theme of the "spare girl" running through this tn. Some women bow out gracefully (Agatha). Some women refuse to bow out (Pepa/Fina). In both these cases, they became pregnant by men that didn'tove them. They both handled it badly. Agatha didn't tell Honorio and denied him the right to see his daughter grow up. Pepa/Fina refused to back off or work out a reasonable agreement with Roberto. And in the case of Gina, she freaked out and didn't let her husband explain how it all happened or try to work with him to find a reasonable solution so that he could care for both his children. Connie also reacted badly, even though she wasn't even in the picture when Agatha and Hon were an item.

Both Hon and Roberto also handled the situations badly. Hon wasn't really listening to Agatha when he broke up with her. Otherwise he would have picked up on some major clues and given her the opportunity to tell him what was going on. Roberto reacted by trying to cover up what was happening and kept it from Gina.

Both Nata and Jero will have to react better than the folks in the generation before them did. It will be a test for them and their relationship.

Vivi, how exciting!! I tried the link but it says "content is currently unavailable". Maybe because I don't have a facebook account? I know, I'm one of the few, quit laughing.

I adore Shakira and like her more any time I've seen her interviewed. What an interesting day you had. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Oh Sylvia, a winner as always.

I am SO unhappy over this Marina pregnancy plotline -- but you made it so much more fun with your balcony boobs and Dr. bun-in-the-oven lines. I also loved --loud music drives out any sympathetic thoughts we might have for her. My feelings exactly. She's a very nice person and a good doctor -- but her teen ager like stalking and slavish clinging have always driven me crazy. So now I don't fee sorry for her I just say "What were you thinking? You're a doctor for heaven's sake. Where's your birth control????"

And Nata-- when Adri speaks nod and listen.
When Berta talks stop up your ears!

poor Zeke is surely on the spot these days -- but he is doing a great job of snowing Agustin. So it looks like they lanted the newly stolen rootstock on Cruz de Amor this time instead of hiding it on that other property. Keep your withs about you Zeke -- lots ofstories to keep straight.

Thanks again Sylvia -- loved your recap as usual!

Wowsers, Vivi. Spending the entire day at the White House and with Jill Biden, no less! Still considering myself a relative newcomer to this blog, I never realised that you were involved in and a member of the highest levels of the US government! Amazing and fantastic!!

Even more amazing that you can find the time to be a part of this blog!! As everyone has said, you always have the details right; you never get it wrong; you know about just every TN out there down to the last detail, and you've figured out these TN way before the rest of us!!

Congratulations to you on your work at the White House!!

On another note...Marina missing a month does not necessarily have to imply a pregnancy. There could be other reasons including general hormonal issues and, dare I say it, malignancy.

It will be interesting to see how this story line develops.

Susanita

Sylvia- Perhaps I'll put the pics on Flickr and then you'll be able to see them.

Given that I work on increasing the number of low-income students who go on to post-secondary education, that this is increasingly an important topic for our government and private sectors, and that I live and work in DC, it's fairly easy to get pulled into these White House things. But I have to admit, I was pretty star struck yesterday, and so was everyone else. But being DC, most of us tried not to act star struck and act like it was totally normal to spend an evening with Shakira at a DC reception. LOL! All the cell phones did come out when she came on stage though, but not when she was walking through the reception. People were really respectful.

Cap'n: I join you in not being part of the Facebook crowd! If that makes me a 'loser' so be it!

Given my previous comment re Marina, have I missed something here? Have they actually come out and said that she is definitely preggers or are we just dealing with her thought bubble that things have gone awry with her menstrual cycle?

If they haven't said that she is definitely preggers, then I think there are other plausible reasons for the monthly mishap.

Susanita

wow Vivi, what an opportunity. Sounds as though that is very important work you are engaged in.

Some of the possibilities everyone has come up with for playing out the BalcoyBoobs baby bungle are pretty interestng. I had forgotten about the dream that Adriana interpreted and the threat of death hanging over someone. That makes JudyB's prediction plausible. But the other suggestions -- that this all wor out as some kind of parallel to the other sets of unwed parents and how they reacted -- are very intriguing.

I love the creativity i this group.

"Surely a beautiful white mare and several scruffy burros are snorting sighs of relief." Oh Carlos, you are a hoot sometimes!

Rosemary LO, I had forgotten about Adri's dream. Yikes! Who's it gonna be? Marina? Roberta? Chema? (Well he's a goner for sure so he doesn't count.) Adri made it sound like someone in Renata's dream and that is Nata (nope), Jero (probably not) and Marina (gulp). Very true that pregnancy is not a given as you all very wisely point out. If she faints however...

Susanita, hermana, high five on the no facebook. I've got nothing against it I just 1) don't have time, and 2) don't want to share everything I'm doing. Mostly it's because I'm lazy.

So how is Gonzo going to handle this DNA "proof" thing? He is supposedly a smart guy, CEO of an international corporation, is he just going to assume that the toothbrushes were on the up and up? Sneaking someone's hairbrush is hardly fool-proof. I don't borrow hairbrushes as a rule but my sister's is probably the only other one besides mine that I would use. Just saying.

I'm having fun with Fina's disguises. She's much more imaginative than Blanca in that department. Knowing how they love to recycle props, I wonder if it's Mariano's hayseed outfit from Teresa? I wonder if the pear bathrobe will make an appearance?

Sylvia, once again, great recap.

It would not surprise me one bit if Dr. Teton got herself pg on purpose or else she missed that class in medical school. She was very determined that she and Jero would be a couple. So, she deserves whatever she gets. I am sure Padre Tio will not be happy.

Also, if we are looking at parallels, Nata will also turn up pg. Question is will they both deliver on the same day like Fina and Regina?

Regina is driving me nuts! At least Fina has that wonderful, evil cackle.

Vivi, it sound like you had a terrific day.

Rosemary

Cap'n: A high five right back at you, hermana!!! My reasons are the same as yours. :))

Look forward to your putting the photos on Flicker Vivi so we can all enjoy them. Although theoretically I'm on Facebook I never write anything and have totally forgotten my password.

I like your theory on the present generation handling their relationship issues better. I never understood Regina's attitude towards her husband since the infidelity occurred BEFORE they met, fell in love married super-fast and conceived immediately. Just telenovela bad luck that the girls were born the same day. Clearly that was the fastest courtship and boda on record.

Sylvia: Great recap. Laugh out loud moment: "Back to weepy and top-heavy Doc BalconyBoobs perched precariously at the top of some stairs. She sobs she has lost him but she loves him so. Step back you fool!!"

I was wondering if Marina is preggers maybe the fact that she's been exposed to the flu might cause her to miscarry-assuming the flu is the pandemic variety.

The big Nata having evil children convo might be a hint that she's preggers too.

Vivi, what a wonderful evening and my admiration on your endeavor. I spend an evening a week (I refuse to let work interfer) tutoring kids with the school district. I get excited whenever I hear anything that promotes education for kids anywhere. Thank you very much!!!

JudyB, to be fair, from Pepa's point of view Regina was the other woman. Pepa had Roberto first. It's another example of the cathedral and chicken shack thing we are discussing over on the Familia Con Suerte thread. Regina is the cathedral (or steak) and Pepa/Fina is the chicken shack (or hamburger). Of course Fina ended up with a palace so her revenge thing is pretty stupid. I guess the fact that Regina is once again La Otra is just too much for her to stomach.

Well done, Cap'n. Loved it. "Carlos pleads with Mati to stop harping about that curse crapola. The padre just has the flu; loosen the headband and get over it." really made me laugh. I think Carlos needs to quit with the chaste smooches, get a bit more ravishy with Matilde, and take the opportunity to whip off the headband, and then lose it.

I can understand Regina's initial reaction to finding out about Pepa...even if that fling came before Roberto and Regina got together, he never told her about it. He kept the fact that he had another child a secret from her, and when Pepa showed up, what was she to think except that he had been and was still cheating on her?

Just spit it out, Adri! Why is she making such a production out of this? We have other plots going on; we don't need to keep Adri and Mat apart forever.

Laz didn't seem to mind the smooch too much. Maybe one of these days he'll realize that Kari is a pitiful sappy wimpy bore and maybe he could do better.

"Maybe one of these days he'll realize that Kari is a pitiful sappy wimpy bore and maybe he could do better." Ouch! Heck, maybe there is a veritable fireball wrapped up in that brown paper bag of a woman. Maybe? Hard to imagine.

Was I too harsh? Kari seems nice enough, but she also seems intrinsically uninteresting. She has no spark.

I agree with Julia re: Kari. I'm not fond of wimpy characters. I like the chemistry between Laz and Arely.
I know that Laz and Kari are destined to be together, just like Jero/Nata, Carlos/Mati and, unfortunately, Adri/Matias (she can do sooo much better).

Too harsh? Never. Bring it on. The truth hurts sometimes.

Maybe, from a morality play point of view, Kari hasn't worked hard enough to deserve Lazaro. There he is, being very proactive and saving people's butts all over the place, and she's stuck on 'poor me'. And she is pretty clueless. On the other hand she was in a very abusive relationship which included rape so I will cut her some slack. She's not very interesting though.

I agree that Adri could do better.

Mil gracias, Cap;n Sylvia. What a wonderful recap to enjoy this morning. What hilarious lines and another offering for the list of the 2nd most named character: Dr. Tatas, Tetons, Balconyboobs.

Roberta needs to die, she is definitely not worth redeeming. I am so through with her. Maybe she will get in Augie's way by threatening to tell Renata about her affair with him and he will snuff her himself even though he likes his dirty work done by underlings.

Regina is supremely stupid so deserves to let the viper Roberta move into her house. Roberta is going to have so much trouble maintaining the nice girl reformed of all evil ways. It reminds me of the old joke that heaven and hell are perhaps the same place if you imagine a committed sinner having to sing in the heavenly choir and not be able to slip out to the brothel or bar while the good folk will think the same place is heaven. Renata will love her time at Regina's even though we would all like to line up to slap Regina silly.

Oh and Sylvia I love the Maughm quote " the tragedy of love is indifference" I had never heard it but it really works here.

Nope, Julia. I agree. Kari is a sweet women who's been thru a lot, so it's not like we don't like her, but I'd just rather see Laz with someone who is "spunky" and matches his humor. Sometimes I think he's in love with what Kari use to be versus the woman she is now.

Ok, this IS you, Cap'n! Mil gracias! Bangin' recap, Girl. Well, Berta the Bitch is back! Oh, she needs to have a big one, for real. I hope the truth accidentally gets out, Berta ain't all that smart and we know Gina's not: doesn't take much to fool that one-track minded wad of wet tissues! Sheesh! Just wanted to say thanks, will go back and read y'alls comments. I hope there's lots of smacks upside Gina's head. And what's with Chema? Is he crazy or evil? I hope he's not going to do anything to Adri. She really does not owe him all this attention!

Lila

Julia,

"Maybe one of these days he'll realize that Kari is a pitiful sappy wimpy bore..."

Perhaps, but that kiss between Lazaro and Kari when he proposed had me perspiring, rewinding, and looking for some cigarettes.

Sylvia said it for me,

"Heck, maybe there is a veritable fireball wrapped up in that brown paper bag of a woman."

We got a glimpse that day. It reminded me of Coni and Beto (Gancho) and Ilitia and Brandon (LldA).

Carlos

Sylvia, yet another masterpiece and thank you!

Now, you ladies quit beating up on Marina. She can't help being ample. What? Implants? Oh. Well just be nice. And, no, I don't want her to become an unwed mother. (I date myself w/ that term)

Fina in bib overalls and a straw hat... Good lord, she's competing w/ Blanca for Reina of BSC now. The maid (Eulalia?) needs to file a hostile workplace complaint.

We seem to be well into the part of any TN where characters go squirrely to the point that bipolar disorder seems like a mild eccentricity. Look at Regina who WAS all poise and intelligence who has become the blubbering specialist. Look at Marina who WAS a class act and now behaves like a 15 year old. Fooey. Pull out of this dive, writers, and soon. Even Berta is trying to behave like a human being with intrinsic worth - though we know better.

Julia, I like your point about Kari. Sounds like Lazaro may end up with what JudyB once referred to as "a project."

Vivi, I do not know how you can handle living and working in DC but bless you for doing something really worthwhile.

Vivi, I'm so jealous that you got to meet Shakira. I adore her. Nice change from the usual D.C. bigwigs ;).

"One-track minded wad of wet tissues!

Bring it on, Lila! You too Julia.

You are both cracking me up.

Carlos and Mike as well, and Cheryl with her Heaven Story...goodness...lots of fun discussions today. Thanks all.

You guys are on fire today! Poor Kari. I still have sympathy for her.

Here are the fuzzy Shakira/Jill pics on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/65450998@N06/sets/72157627840620038/

Vivi, those shots are wonderful. We're so proud of you for the work that you are doing and very envious that you got to rub shoulders with Shakira. Good job!!

Fun pics Vivi. Shakira definitely wins the Great Gams award. And you certainly deserve to be in such sparkling company. Someday somebody should be thrilled to get a picture of YOU m'dear. You're doing meaningful and much needed work.

Vivi, Way to go. I really like Shakira and I am so glad she is using her multicultural background and her success as an artist to benefit so many other people. And to think one of our own was there to see it.

Poor Kari, brown-bag boring and whiny and Laz kissed his cross in gratitude for the hot kiss Arely gave him. I just hope their is a fire inside Kari that will expand into a warm fire with some much needed fireworks displays to make Laz forget all about that kiss from Arely.
