Cuando Me Enamoro #151 Monday 11/21/11 How Sharper Than a Serpent’s Tooth It Is To Have A Thankless Skank or How To End a Velorio in a Few Easy Steps

Here are a few preliminary images from the Sand Hill Crane Festival at Bosque del Apache, NM. So worth getting up at 4AM in the predawn cold!

Thanks to Lila’s suggestion of “ungrateful skank” that started the gears in my head to whirl and a nod to William Shakespeare for this King Lear line in Act I, Scene 4; but before either of these I read in junior high Mad Magazine’s really fun version: How Sharper Than a Child’s Tooth It Is To Have A Thankless Serpent. So, I was hardwired to be a literature student, no? So, let us begin now that Univision is announcing we are in ultimas semanas.

Warmed over from last week from the wonderful recap by Doc Carlos. Fina gets funds, Roberta gets instructions from mom and Augie, Matilde wlll get a surprise, Priscila wants to celebrate her return to her old beau with a great glass of wine. Alison and Anibal have a great little romantic tour of the valley around the hacienda and flirt while Anibal tells her what a deadbeat dad Augie is and she counsels his right to make demands on him but Anibal wants to stay far away from this cad of a dad.

The velorio continues with sad music and questioning neighbors who can’t believe Zeke’s life which seemed so sweet with wife, hijos and with more reasons than most to greet each day with gratitude instead resulted in his tying his rope into a noose.

Regina tells Roberta that lunch is ready for them as Roberta descends the stairs with her gift package saying she has a gift for Selene who is waiting in the car outside. She‘ll be right back.

Roberta sulkily hands the bow tied money to Mama and Fina says don’t forget that I need you and I love you. Robrata (not a typo) sneers as she jerks her body out of Fina’s clutches. The Psychiatrist astutely observes that Roberta doesn’t seem to like her, but when Fina tells him that she is her true daughter not Renata like everyone thinks and she is the one that will get him his funds, he decides it is better to be allied with than estranged from her.

Regina takes a very strange turn when Panchita spills the Fina sighting. She gets some details about what Panchiata says who even thinks herself that it was a vision that couldn’t be but she saw her in the car then saw Roberta go up to her and hand her the box with a bow. Roberta looks askance, while Regina stops the conversation when Roberta returns and wants to know what they are talking about. Regina pretends it is about lunch and Panclita leaves quickly getting the silence suggestion a whole lot better than Alfonsina or Matilde ever get it. Regina is cool and calculationg at lunch.

Augie Doggie texts Roberta that now is the moment for her to call her sister and tell her damnation to Zeke story. Roberta has her phone on the lunch table and leaves the room to take the message. Her parents don’t seem to tell her how rude this is but I will. Gonzo gets the dissonance but weakly asks if anything is wrong which Regina denies. I so want Gonzo to begin to occupy his body again.

Renata is comforting Alfonsina and gets the call. Roberta calls with her odd claim that this disgraced one is dead when he didn’t answer yet for taking advantage of her saintly virgin self. And forced her to have relations. Renata is so taken aback that she blurts out to a shocked Jero and Alfonsion and a grinning Aug that, Zeke abused YOU! Oops, Augie does still have powers over skank #1 aka evil twin sister, Roberta. I wonder what they will be serving for the post velorio dinner? Bitter breast of crow, poisoned veggies and Arely cured wine? What would Martha Stewart say about this? I’m eating peanut butter cups to fortify my resolve here.

Roberta gives the play by play account all innocent but just a bit tipsy from the fiesta last summer going back to Augie’s Cruz de Desamor. Alfonsina remembers the fiesta too where she saw Zeke leave with the sultry Roberta. She remembers the fact that Zeke didn’t come home until really, really late. She says, I can’t believe he abused Renata’s sister. Roberta on the other end of the phone stops laughing long enough to whine into the phone that she was too embarrassed to tell the truth. She didn’t want to cause more problems with Renata and Augie since he was so kind and helpful to them and she knew Augie had such confidence in his manager Zeke. So that is why at the earliest hour the next morning she left to return to Mexico City. Renata is indignantly doubtful that this could happen while Augie now waits smugly at her side. She tells Roberta, we are going to clarify all of this she can’t believe it. Roberta laughs again getting off and sayng well Renata didn’t believe me but at least I have planted the seeds of doubt in her nitwit sister. Augie says he can’t believe that Zeke disgraced him. Renata says her sister tells so many lies that this may not be true either. Augie suggests maybe his gullt was another reason Zeke wanted to kill himself. They argue about who would know what Zeke intended, perhaps his friends could verify it. Augie says maybe Lazaro would know. Renata insists that she go see what is happenng with Alfonsina right now. She takes off and Augies is right on her back with that ever present smile.

Jero catches up with Alfonsina who is recounting that Zeke didn’t come home with her that night but Jero counsels that Roberta lies a lot and maybe she shouldn’t be believed now. Alfonsina is out skanked and takes off. Augie feigns remorse and responsibility since he made Zeke take Roberta home.

Inside Lazaro is comforting little Panchito, he promises that he isn’t his papa but he will be there to counsel him if he needs someone papa-like and he will look after his baby sister and mama too. Panchito says he knows his papa loved Lazaro. And I loved him, we have been friends since we were boys. When Alfonsino breaks in with the rage of a Furie. This is over, she screams, She wants the ceremony to end and everyone to leave. She screams, he is the worst of men when Ponchito, protests protecting his papa. Once again with the lack of sense and sensitivity of a dull witted woman she denounces Zeke in front of her son and all the neighbors. She calls him disgusting (asco). He was a man who wasn’t worth the trouble. Lazaro wisely covers Panchito’s ears and says don’t listen to her she is really upset and full of pain. She doesn’t know what she is saying. Your father was a good man and a loyal man a brave man. No he wasn’t she screams. She throws flowers around beating at the coffin with exploding blooms while the astounded crowd looks on. She even heaves one of those giant horse wreaths. It must have been powerful fun.

Alfonisna spreads her venom first to her baby daughter talking to Zeke but saying, I hate you, I hate you right over the baby’s crib when Matilde and Karina who can’t imagine why she is having this tantrum enter and stop her from screaming of her hate to the innocent infant. She wants them all to leave even though Matilde wants to stay with her. Karina wisely picks up baby Luz, then Matilde grabs the diaper bag and the two leave a raging Alfonsina alone in her bedroom.

Inez is pleased about the new foundation’s success. When she asks Regina why the long face, Regina starts to tell of the bad scene with Roberta as reported by Panchita saying she saw Fina, how strange.

Fina and Blanca discuss import businesses, Roberta can further screw up the business if she is on the inside. Blanca explains how they need to bring in someone who could pose as a client who would then have problems with some of the imports and demand an investigation.

Inez says being raised by Fina has caused Roberta to be awful. Regina seems mad that Roberta is accused, she is changing, she insists. Inez says change like that doesn’t happen in one day and one night. Regina is thinking and asks if Fina could have escaped and Roberta could be in collusion with her. Inez, says if it was Renata I would say absolutely not but with Roberta, well she is something distinct. They decide a call to the asylum is in order.

In the kitchen of the Center, the Trojan baby mom is further pulling Constanza in with how the baby cried all night and she is so tired. She has no money, Consta thinks she needs a doctor but Trojan Mom refuses to be taken. She pulls on Consta’s heart strings letting Consta coo and fuss over the sweet baby.

Chema shows up in the kitchen to inroduce Julieta to Consta he explains she is Matias girlfriend and Julieta covers by saying oh, yes you know how when Chema and Adriana got involved as novios, I met Matisas. Consta seems to get the game.

Back at Jardin de locas Blanca wants further to nail Daniele who betrayed her. As they woerry if the real daughter stands up and their money schmes is found out when the Dastardly Director of the Demented (see, more than one 3D man here, best put on your 3D glasses for the rest of the episode) approaches that their little escapeades out of the asylum are over. He is worried aobut the complaints of someone who called onbehalf of Regina Soberon de Monterubbio and wanted to assure that the Fina wasn’t escaping the asylum recently. It could blowing his cover. JFina is so disgusted up to here with that horrible Regina Soberon . Her revenge is more certain. He shlud be worried that the Blanca/Fina machine is more than he bargained for.

So Inez confirmed with Dr. DoNoGood that Fina is for sure in the prison asylum so Regina stupidly concludes that Ponchita saw badly. Hmm. This bad turn is interrupted with Julieta and Constanza bringing in a still buff looking Chema and he announces the big moment of his restaurant opening. Regina tells him she can’t come since she and Gonzo have a wedding and honeymoon so will be away. Chema gets a phone message from his doctor’s office who wants to see him the day after next at 10 in the morning. He has to work that in to the busy preparations of his grand opening and other big plans.

Adriana has apparently received the bad news that Chema’s tumor has grown. Matias asks did he take a bad turn? She hugs Matias while they question why do the good die young.

Honorio casually mentions to German that Gonzo is grateful for his taking Roberta under wing to make her feel good. German non-commital, says he was just trying to make her feel better and it doesn‘t mean more than that.

Jero and Renata are talking about Roberta being a liar. Jero details that she lied about the affair she didn’t have with him and with the one she did have with his brother and about the baby. Oh, let me count the ways. Regarding what Zeke did or not do, Jero suddenly remembers Selene who said not only was Roberta lying to Renata about having relations with Jero but she really was having a fling with Augie Doggie when Renata was engaged to him. He tbinks better of telling the true believer Renata that Augie is probably behind her sister’ sudden confessions but says It is probably Zeke but he prefers not to talk about it now. His moment of discretion is rewarded by Renata trusting him further and asking him to talk to Super Laz to confirm if Zeke had told him anything about this supposed violation of her sister. Perhaps Renata is less than convinced too. Jero casually agrees to talk to Laz for her. Silence serves him well here, and he has dodged Renata’s revamped defense of Augie.

Augie drives and talks on his phone that he wants Linares out of his way and something dastardly is planned for him to get all his money back. Who but “Mal Ecio” could he be talking to? Roberta isn’t in charge of kidnapping or executions yet.

Alison and Anibal get stuck in the car on they way home. They determine that the windshield wipers work so it isn’t the battery and giggle at their predicament of being in the middle of nowhere and out of gas.

Jero and Renata back home continue to talk that it is important to her to verify if Roberta is lying like she always has before or if there is dome truth in this claim that she was violated.

Priscila and “mi Charlie” come back in from their little tour. Renata and Jero cordially greet her. Priscila is glad to see the beautiful hacienda which Renata agrees is so pretty. They are trying the good wine and Jero and Renata decide they want some too. When Carlos limps over to retrieve the wine, Jero sarcastically says thank you MY CHARLIE.

Alison flags down a friendly car on the dirt road but Augie pops out and gets begged by an inonocent Aliosn to help them they were touring the fields and ran out of gas. Anibal, what are you dong with this car, asks Augie accusingly. You know this man, Alison is surprised yes this is Augustin Dunan. You mean your father? Where did you get this car? The innocent couple say, from La Bonita, Augie has the ability to make someone totally innocent feel guilty so they mutter, yes Renata knows we have it. We were driving around since everyone else is attending the velorio.

Jero and Renata excuse themselves; she is leaving tomorrow for the wedding of her dad and Regina and he is leaving right after to join her in Mexico City. More teasing ensues about the Charlie name. Priscila acting as though these will be her peers says she is enchanted with such a handsome couple so in love. Just when she is in full flirt, the funereal gang including Manuela , baby Luz carried by Kari, and Laz carrying Ponchito with Matilde still wearing her headband come in explaining they had to leave the Alfonsina storm and bring the children. In the confusion, Carlos introduces all including last his girlfriend, Matilde. Priscila openly gasps, you didn’t tell me you had a girlfriend, mi Charlie! Matilde steps forward to the pretty face and says, not only that I am his fiancé and we are about to marry. In a bedroom, Kari and Laz talk while they tuck in the sleeping children. Kari ways well Mati stepped up and that Priscila is too pretty. Lax doesn’t worry when she asks about his opinion of the Roberta romp and says Zeke did tell him about. You knew, asks a surprised Kari. Laz says yes he did tell him, but he is pretty sure it was not a violation but a mutual seduction.

Augie makes some devil’s bargain. He is sure Renata want her car back, I will take you now and come back with gas tomorrow to get this car back to Linares. He leers at the young ones and licks his jutjawed lips, wonder if he ever cuts his own tongue doing that. He has more evil plans in the air than a circus juggler has tennis balls.

Roberta steps in talk to German about their working relationship which German takes into his own hands and as she presses chest against chest, He says his original intentions have changed. And what has changed, asks Roberta so coyly. I want to be closer to you. He now is enchanted with her and plants a big kiss on her ready lips. .

Next steps: Ha I avoided having to mention Maritatas but look out Elna June, she could be on your radar for Tuesday night. Jero and Renata look too happy and that can’t continue as we know. Trouble rumbles through the valley. I am feeling a bit sorry, but I know as a newbie you can let it roll off your back easier than I can. Good luck with your first CME recap and welcome back to the recapper gang. I know you will do a wonderful job. Just enjoy yourelf and we will all be there to aid and abet and support you in every way.

Wow, so many great lines, where do I begin? Since we are in doble skank mode how about: "Augie does still have powers over skank #1", and "Alfonsina is out skanked". Yes indeedy! She was really on a roll tonight. All that stuff I said about her earlier, being a crappy mom and just thinking about herself and all that? DOUBLE IT! (And yes, it looked like fun.)

Tonight I was fast forwarding through Alf but trying to catch the in-between sweetness from Laz and Kari. It looks like they are gearing up to be great parents. Makes me wonder if Alfonsina is going to make it to the end of this one.

I loved how both Nata and Jero coughed (i.e. gagged) when Pris kept calling Carlos "Mi Charlie". Too funny. I daresay Jero's "Mi Charlie" was ad libbed. What do the rest of you think?

Priscilla is very hot, but a long term fixture at La Bonita? Nah, too wimpy. I think.

Cheryl, of course I LOVE your title, Shakespeare and skank in one package. Brilliant. Thank you for posting so quickly because I was dying to read your take on things. Now that I'm satisfied it's off to bed with me. More tomorrow.

Thanks Sylvia, I always hope for a bit of reaction before I am off to sleep and I am so glad it was you. Interesting about Jero ad libbing the Thanks, Mi Charlie line. It was certainly spontaneous so could definitely be.

I love how comfortably Super Laz and Kari have slid into an easy closeness whether seeming to move in unison over what to do with Alfonsina's children or discuss secret thoughts with great ease like Zeke's infidelity. And we knw they are right about all of it.

Brilliant title Cheryl. A little Shakespeare can always add a nice touch. I agree with Sylvia, so many wonderful lines and comments.

The whole Alfi implosion scene just made me want to throttle the woman. Much Ado About Nothing. Again, no regard for her children at all. How the blazes she could scream at her son like that? Self-centered idiot. When Kari and Laz took the little ones back to the hacienda I thought, Good, and keep them. She doesn't deserve them. I wonder if that's where the plot is going? I'll stop ranting now....

Thank goodness for Priscilla. We were able to have a light-hearted moment after the MeMeMeltdown. Jero is going to have a field day with the Mati/Pris interaction and his "Mi Charlie" to Carlos was absolutely hysterical. Not sure if it was an ad lib, fantastic if it was, but poor Carlos is going to wish he was only dealing with Mama when these two women go at it.

Anyone else grossed-out by the GerBer makeout at the end? Maybe he's just a sloppy kisser, but I got a definite "ewwwwww" sensation watching those two. Hopefully we don't have to see much more of that. And Berta - after that smirk and phone call - just get the anvil ready. She's hopeless.

Elna June, looking forward to your recap. You'll be fab! I'm guessing some "fun" stuff at the Wedding:Part Two.

Good Mornin' Cheryl! Thanks for ranking my thankless skank in the CME titles hall of fame!

Aye! Redemtion crowd. Let me say that you all are the most loyal of people and salt of the earth. Please, leave Roberta to the telenovela gods. Did you hear what she said? "Oh, too bad he's dead, I would love to go back to Cruz de Amor and hit that again!" Oh yeah, that skank deserves a shank (homemade knife).

Alfonsina. Umh umh umh. I don't like to cuss so early in the morning. What a hypocritical, cud for brains, raging cow.

Ok, I'm fussin', let me continue. Regina! REGINA! Fina tried to kill you three times, she masquerading as a nun after having flipped the bird to the Mother and Child, sang at your wedding and gunned you and your groom down! (Yes, Cheryl I so want Gonzo to begin to occupy his body again, too). Panchita tells you she sees Fina outside in a car and Roberta gave her a bow topped box, which you saw and you think she's hallucinating? I know a doubt is planted, but my Gosh, these people are asking to be abused, shot, stabbed, defrauded, I could just scream!

Ok. Ok. It's only a novela, ultimas semanas, ultimas semanas.

Besides, got an EJ recap to look forward to. Looking forward to it EJ!! Thank you Chery, spectacular cap. Can't wait for comments!

Lila

Cheryl, superb from beginning to end. As Sylvia, daisy and Lila noted, this was brimming with marvelous lines. I smiled at "cad of a dad" and "Arely cured wine" - clever and witty as always. Beyond that, your narratives are enthralling and enlightening. Gracias.

Sylvia, Alfonsia was in full destruction mode and I also wondered if her inexcusable rant in front of and to her son was a foreshadowing of (more) doom to come. Kari and Laz's parenting skills were on full display, natural and loving. Uh oh...

For a moment, I really thought Regina was going to realize that she is dealing with a cold, calculating monster who is capable of anything. I'm hoping she will realize the depth of Fina's treachery and that she will stop at nothing until Regina is destroyed. Regina must also realize who and what Roberta is. A liar, manipulator and now very clear, unredeemable. (Lila, thank you for adding what Roberta said about Zeke. 'nuff said.).

I think Pris is definitely going to stir the pot. I don't think she is going to back down too easy. And wow, she looks absolutely gorgeous. Sylvia, I hadn't thought about Jero's adlib but thinking back, feel you nailed it. Nice touch.

What a wonderful way to start the day - a fabulous recap and terrific comments.

Diana

You know what guys? About Alfonsina, here's some positive reframing, cause I know there are those who care about her. I think the TN gods know that she is destructively distraught (I thought she was going to flip poor Zeke outta his box!) and so caught up in Auggie's lie, the only thing that can happen is that she be sent to to other side where she can talk it over with Zeke and see he WAS a good man, a loving husband and father. Laz and Kari will take care of the kids. Laz and Kari ARE great together, aren't they? Agree with the ad lib, gonna go back and listen just for grins!

Lila

Thanks for the kind comments Daisynjay, Lila and Diana. This was so over the top it was actually fun unlike the death of Zeke and the discovery of his swinging body. I just wish Augie had stayed around to be impressed with this full tilt boogie tantrum. I would like to see that clenched jaw drop open in pure awe and Alfonsina's abilities.

Yes, Priscila is going to be great fun since she and Matilde look evenly matched natural rivals: headbands -vs- lipgloss. Whooeee! FUN!

Cheryl- I echo everyone else's appreciation of your prose and the fab title. It seemed like you had fun with this episode. Almost as much fun as the Alfi actress had having the major, flower throwing meltdown. Whew!

Sure, everyone else has been surprised to learn that Zeke had a record and may have slept with Berta. But everyone immediately understands that he hid the record because he was ashamed. And if something happened between him and Berta, it sure as hell wasn't rape. Why is Alfi the only one so quick to believe the worst? She needs to get a grip. No wonder she and Doc Weepy have become such fast friends.

I hope she gets hold of herself soon because her son needs her.

There is no redemption for Berta. She just enjoys causing pain too much. No thought at all about the pain she was causing a widow with children! And then thinking about what a shame it is that she won't have the chance to roll in the hay with Zeke again. Ugh!

I will cut Gina some slack for thinking there must be some other explanation if the director of the asylum says Fina is still there. But I hope she continues to watch Berta closely and to be suspicious and cautious as Inez suggests.

Oh, loved the "mi Charlie" teasing scenes. Jero and Nata were giving each other all kinds of sly looks during that scene. That "mi Charlie" business is not going to fly with Mati. Loved the stare down of the two beauties (headband vs lipgloss) as Mati staked her claim. He may be Pricila's Charlie, but he's Mati's fiance!

Thanks for this masterpiece, Cheryl. Your description of Alfonsina's rampage captures the action perfectly. I don't think that I've enjoyed a funeral more since Juan Q brought the mariachis to mark the passing of Sam Cachon.

I always enjoy the scenes in the manicomia courtyard because Blanca an Fina stand out as the only two socializing and conversing as ll the rest mill about aimlessly each seemingly lost in her own lonely reality. Last night, one of them was entertaining herself by flapping the lengthy dangling sleeves of her straight jacket.

Mati seemed to be channeling Jerry by positioning herself between Carlos and Pris, just like Jerry does whenever Augie nears Renata.

Renata clumsily spilled the beans about Zeke in front of Alfi. I wonder, if that had been Mati...?

Cheryl, "headbands -vs- lipgloss"

excellent.

The photos are awesome.

Carlos

"Headbands -vs- lipgloss", ha ha ha!!! Good one Cheryl.

Wow, you put some pics up after I read the recap. They are amazing! I have only seen one Sand Hill Crane in my life. To see so many at once is absolutely mind-blowing.

For some reason my DVR didn't record the last few scenes so I missed the Germy Berta smooch. Blech. Thank goodness.

I also missed Berta's slutty comment about Zeke. I had hopes for that girl for a long time but I think I've got to move on. Trashing a dead man? Trashing our Ezequiel? Ya basta!

Alfonsina is seriously challenging one of my longstanding credos which has stood me well through life: Don't hold people responsible for things they do during weddings and funerals; both events seem to bring out the worst in people. I'm afraid after Alf's embarrassingly public mecha-meltdown and shriek-at-the-children fest I DO hold her responsible. She is so far from perfect she is the last one who should be casting stones. As Diana so succinctly puts it, "Uh oh..."

Oh, Cheryl, I just opened this up & haven't even started reading yet -- but I have to thank you for those beautiful photos.

(My word verification is psyco -- how did they know that I'm just about to read of the doings of Alfoskanka and the ladies of the manicomia?)

Güera

Hi all, I just put the pics up a few minutes ago so they weren't there last night. I have so many to sort that I needed a clear morning head to pick a couple so you can see how I spend my time these days.

I did catch the Roberta comment about enjoying Zeke as it flew by but didn't add it, so thanks Lila for reminding us that skanky is as skanky does.

You're welcome, Cheryl. Berta's comment just floored me! "headband vs. lipgloss" HAHH HAHAH HAHA HA HAHA HAA :d

Lila

;D

Lila

Cheryl, where to begin. The King Lear/ skank via Mad Magazine title was a hoot. Start to finish this was a romp.

-- cad of a dad, bow tied money, Robrata, jutjawed lips, headbands -vs- lipgloss ---priceless!

QTH? Fina has told the doctor the truth about which daughter is the real one??? Hard to believe that she would give such important info away -- gives him something to hold over her and she likes to be the one in control.

I loved your dig about our irritating chismosas "Panchita leaves quickly getting the silence suggestion a whole lot better than Alfonsina or Matilde ever get it." And the menu for the post -velorio dinner was a chuckle.

The Alfie meltdown was fun to watch -- but how dare she!? Perhaps it is her own guilty conscience that is eating at her. After what she did she has no right to judge anyone. But it may be a self defense mechanism.

It is getting harder and harder to hold out hope for Roberta -- but I still think that she has a shock waiting for her which will turn her around.

Carlos-- nice call on the way Mati & Jero position themselves as a way of staking their claim, Watching the Pris / Mati moves is going to be fun.

Lila -- the skank deserves a shank LOL!

There is so much wonderful stuff to comment on . I could go on all day -- but y'all have better things to do than read my novel length comments.

Cheryl:

Wonderful recap. The title is a masterpiece. It belongs in the Caray Hall of Fame.

Magnificent images! The sunrise and birds should be in National Geographic or Smithsonian magazines. Thank you so much for both of these gifts to all of us on this gray November morning.

Sylvia and Daisynjay, I had the same thoughts about Alfonsina. Her kids have been abandoned in this situation, thank heavens for Kari and Laz who are really stepping up. How could she drip all that toxic sludge over baby Luz?

DaisynJay, Cheryl, Lila thanks for wishing me good luck on recapping tonight. Wow! There is so much going on, I am sure to miss something so please correct, add etc. so that we get the complete picture.

Vivi, Berta never had much of a chance at redemption and now she is surely a goner. Her gloating lasciviously over 'Zeke's dead body was a double-yuk moment.

Guera—your word "Alfonskanka" is my favorite comment of the day. I LOL. I may use that—with attribution, of course—tonight.

Again, great job Cheryl. Do you mind posting the recap for me tonight? Thanks much.

EJ

All:

I get the general drift about the word skank, but anyone wanna provide a full definition? Can't wait to see your definitions.Big grin.

Still LOL at "Thankless skank" in the title and Shakespearean references.

EJ

Oh my, checking in at lunchtime and saw the beautiful pictures you just put up. Outstanding!!

Lila - love your rant!!! "I don't like to cuss so early in the morning. What a hypocritical, cud for brains, raging cow." Sounds good to me.

"How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth..." oh my, I heard that so often during my childhood (Mom wielded Shakespeare like a cudgel) but it was a delightful title.

And the pictures...particularly the last one with the streaks of sunrise in the background...Simply breathtaking. How much more so it must have been to actually be there! You are leading a blessed life Miss Cheryl.

Loved "Robrata" and "I so want Gonzo to occupy his body again".

As for the episode itself, I found it so negative and disturbing, I almost turned it off. First of all, cute little Allison bothers me. She wasted no time persuading Hanibal to think about suing his biological father, then suggests taking her host's car without permission for a long ramble. Not a good character sign.

The Alfonsina behavior...quick to believe the worst.... and ugly out of control behavior nauseated me. The writers are presenting her so badly, I think she's going to be added to the body count, with the children going to Laz and Kari.

The Augustin/Roberta menace, the Fina/Blanca scheming, that disgusting German/Roberta kiss (not really a kiss, more like two Mack trucks ramming into each other)....ugh!...I just found the whole episode depressing and off-putting. Really ready for a Thanksgiving break from these awful scenarios...Bring on the Happy Ending por favor!

There...have I kevetched enough? Do I need to add it's another cold gray rainy day here in central Ohio. Toil and trouble, toil and trouble!

Thanks for your recap Cheryl. The comments have been hilarious as well and it reflects how great your work is.

I'm not having sympathy for Alfie. I hope she shapes up soon for her kids sake.

I can't wait to see that smile wiped off Auggie's face.

Observations before reading the recap and comments:

I no longer want Roberta redeemed. That reprehensible piece of skanky trash must go down.

Re: the telehone convo with said skank, out of character for Nata to make that kind of faux pas in front of Alfie.

And speaking of Alfie. Does that woman have NO control over her behaviour?

Now on to the recap and comments.

Robey

Forgot something:

Priscilla doesn't know what's going to hit her. P is going to underestimate our Mati because she's going to think she's just a country bumpkin. We know better. Should be fun.

Robey

A skank is. . .

Ready with favors,

and light of leg,

her charms you can savor,

and won't have to beg!

Lila

I think we should give Alfonsina a break here. I mean she did just lose her husband to suicide. But good for Karina and Mati getting the baby out of there.

Roberta on the other hand...I was all for her redemption given the way she was raised, but she looked way too happy destroying a dead man. She needs to go back to being miserable at being used by people, or she's going to lose my support for good.

And I liked those two kids, anibal and Alison. A nice bit of light in a less than happy episode. At least until Augie showed up.

Kelly

Great recap, Cheryl. How do I love it? Let me count the ways: One, really awesome birdie pictures. Two, funny title. Three through one thousand, all the clever quips everyone's mentioning that I'm too lazy to write out. Very, very funny.

Man, I was just settling in for more gloomy funeral and then it got good! Yikes. I know Alfi was furious and grieving, but how could she take Roberta's word as truth? And even so, how could she look right in her innocent little son's face and keep yelling those things? Good for Kari, Mati, and Laz taking off with the kids posthaste.

I can't wait to see the fireworks between Priscila and Mati. Pris is a great addition to the show just for the teasing she gives Jero the opportunity to do.

Alison is still a mystery to me. She's kind of trouble, but she seems more high-spirited and impish than bad to me. I think she just has that teenage shortsightedness going on. She wants to go out for a drive. Oh, oops, no more gas. She likes Anibal so she wants him to get support from his father. Never mind what problems getting involved with such a nasty man could bring.

Big congrats to Fina for being Univision's La Villana de Noviembre! (//novelasyseries.univision.com)
Maripaz from La Fuerza was nominated as well, but too amateur to win (at least that's what I got from my bad spanish). But good news- Christian de la Fuente might be the galan for Silvia Navarro in Lidia de amor! He'll look good with his shirt off, which is of course one of the most important characteristics of a good galan.

Love your poem Lila...and it is indeed a good definition, skank-wise.

Lila, I was going to offer my version of skank but after reading yours I ain't even gonna try! You nailed it.

EJ, I can't wait to read your recap tonight (or tomorrow or whenever it's ready). I think you are going to have a lot of material to work with and the hardest task will be how to edit. Feel free to copy me on your recap, just in case Cheryl has nodded off for the evening. Any one of us would be honored to post it for you.

Cheryl--magnificent photos, episode title and recap--my goodness, all rolled up in one.

However, for future readers and searchers, this is Episode #151, although we would all want to go back to #142--the shoot-out scene?

Minor enhancement--Augie says while he's talking on the phone to Mal-esio, that he doesn't care how much it costs or how many people he has to pay, he wants Linares out of his life..[for good]. Nothing about getting his money back.

Also, he accuses the two teenage "hoods" for stealing a car to go joy riding. How much you want to bet he actually did that himself at one time.

I agree with Vivi--cut Regina some slack. She is the epitome of Trust in the Goodness of Your Fellow Man--until it hits her in the face, literally. If 3D Man says she never left the manicomio, she's going to believe it.

Regina doesn't even want to believe Inez when she advises to take it easy with Roberta and not to trust her conversion because people can't change overnight.

Regina actually trusted Fina to go through with the exchange of money for identification and even accepted the articles for DNA testing without a murmur--thinking she had been so clever to pick Roberta's brush out of her purse to compare.

Alfonsina is in melt-down now? Don't throw water on her or she might disappear into a puddle with a broomstick nearby if she hears that the congress of bodies between Berta and Zeke was consensual.

How ya gonna prove it was seduction if the truth-teller is dead while the lie-teller is alive. Augie Doggie needs to be unmasked as another congressional body (and I don't mean representatives or senators). In a way, I feel sorry for German, he has no idea who he's tangling with.

BTW--Berta is listening outside the office door to German tell Gonzo why he approached Berta at first was that he felt sorry for her, being excluded from the business and ostracized by family members and robbed of her fiance and all. At first she bristles, but when she confronts him, she softens and realizes what a potential tool she has in him. This is getting interesting.

As for the two ladies in white. I could care less, but as Carlos pointed out, they are the only ones engaging in normal behavior. They need to get a little more crazy--or they may end up like Jack Nicholson in the Cuckoo's Nest, crazier than the crazies.

The white gowns seemed so antiquated, but in reviewing Sortilegio, the first psychiatric clinic Raquel was taken to for detoxification and treatment, the "residents" were all wearing the identical white gowns. They must have laundered them and put them in storage for the next manicomio scene. Interesting we didn't see that in MEPS--or did I miss it?

I have more to say, but I've taken up too much space already.

Lila:

Thanks for the poetic definition of the oft used word skank. I am ROTFL...

Wiping tears of laughter from my eyes,

EJ

Thanks Lila for pointing out Roberta's observation:

"Oh, too bad he's dead, I would love to go back to Cruz de Amor and hit that again!"

Actually of all the things said about him, I'd bet the deceased Zeke might be beaming most about that.

It was Roberta's unique way of mourning the now not so dearly departed.

Carlos

Hey all,

I just came back from a fun extended lunch with Karen from Indy who is in DC visiting her sister. My new pic is of the two of us in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in my neighborhood. I gave her a tour of the Basilica, and we giggled and made all kinds of un-Catholic comments throughout. She is a lovely lady, super smart (a professor of sociology), and also lots of fun.

Cheryl- I love the pictures! Thansk so much for sharing them.

Carlos- You are bad. :)

Gee Cheryl, great follow up recap to Carlos's great Fri episode, and super bird pictures!

Are the nominations for skankhood closed? I feel like NOK "In a way I feel sorry for German, he has no idea who he's tangling with."

So I want to nominate Roberta. Here's my formal nomination:

Roberta's a skank like no other
Whose attention can cause you to smother.
She'll pull down her pants
And give you your chance
But you won't take her home to see mother.

David

Lila -- your skank poem -- perfect!

Güera

A limerick! David, you are a man after my own heart.

NOK, "She is the epitome of Trust in the Goodness of Your Fellow Man--until it hits her in the face, literally". Like mother like daughter!

Hey Karen, great to see you! Vivi, it sounds like you two had an awesome time. It makes me feel better knowing there are such smart people amongst us. Not that I didn't know it already but confirmation is always good.

Cheryl: Awesome recap, awesome pics. I don't have anything more to add to what I wrote previously. Looking forward to the US ride.

Robey

That Germy/Robrata smooch was not so much a kiss as it was like when you smash two lumps of play-doh together and moosh them up to make a new color.

OMG!! The skank limerick!! This is so much freakin' fun!! ROFKASLMAO! (rollin' on the floor kicking and screamin laughin my arse off)

More, more skank defs! They don't have to rhyme (is rhyme spelled like that?)

Yah, Carlos, I think Berta's comment about Zeke was a skank's expression of grief!

Lila ;D

Wow, you all went way off the grid this afternoon. I am dealiang with print making for my pics to be in the NM photography show all December at the Fair Grounds.

Vivi, thanks for sharing the great picture of you and Karen all lovely and saintly in the cathedral, fabulous.

I second the motion that Carlos is bad! Or as they say in Maine, wicked good also works.

Lila and David have led the way wtth poem and limerick. Makes me wish I could ride Ode To A Skank or maybe a briefer Haiku. I'll think about the definition I bring to bear. Interesting challenge Elna June

And Elna June I hope you got my email confirming that I am ready to post for you later tonight.

Cheryl--If you still can, don't forget to change the Episode No. from #142 to #151.
NOK

Mil gracias, NOK, I just corrected it to 151.

Gorgeous pictures Cheryl and a superb recap!

In the previews last night, we saw one short scene where a guy says to Regina: "Roberta no es su hija." I was hoping that scene would be in last night's episode. I'm chafing at the bit for that huge chunk of chismo to be revealed.

I agree with you about Gonzo: Gonzo, please re-inhabit your body as soon as possible.

But soft, what light (comedy) through yonder computer screen breaks?? Cheryl, I loved your title and all the way to the end of your recap. Excellent. Also your photos. You're so talented!

Commenters, way to go also. What a great bunch of writers gathered here. The skank poetry (??) is hilarious. I thought of a really lame limerick but promptly forgot it. Consider yourselves lucky.

Vivi, thanks for the photo of you and Karen. What fun.

I don't like not being able to yuck it up on Tuesdays with you guys. I am always the last to comment and say THANK YOU to Cheryl. Your title is a masterpiece, and I am certain your profesoras de literatura would be so proud! Perhaps you can send them samples of your current work? Wouldn't they be amazed at your creative usage of "Thankless Skank" in such a superb title with "Sharper Than a Serpants Tooth"? Thanks for sharing your history on that line.

Loved the "Robrata" too!

I need to take off my work clothes, then I am looking at your pictures and reading comments. TuesDAYS may stink, but savoring your re-cap on TuesNIGHT is awesome!

Rosemary la Otra

Awwww, RosemaryLO, I am touched by your compliments of my little Monday opus (is opusito a word?) I do it with love and extreme enjoyment while I also totally soak in all the positive energy I get from the bloggers' appreciation of what we recappers do.

Photography is my all out passion so I truely am touched that you all mentioned my work with such glowing compliments. It makes me personally feel terrific. So thank you all.
