El Mundo de Telemundo, Week of November 28, 2011: Discuss Amongst Yourselves.

LA CASA DE AL LADO

The casa of the title can refer to the Conde mansion with its stylized black and white interior; or it can be the Ruiz digs, where no one talks about the elephant in the room. Literally. It depends on the perspective of the speaker. This shifting perspective is especially evident now that Javier Ruiz inhabits the Casa Conde and Pilar has moved in to keep an eye on him and take care of her sister, Rebeca.

The transition hasn’t been easy for Javier. Intruders – including the entire Conde family – enter as easily as they did before and evil still lurks in every corner.

And then there’s the whole servant problem:

Where’s Nibaldo?
The viewer has seen him lying, bloody and inert – though not necessarily dead – in a public park. The police are called after a young couple spot him. But the only one of our characters who knows about Nibaldo’s misfortune is the one responsible: Ismael.

Hilda is gone too (but only to la casa de al lado, thank goodness).
She agrees to help look after Pilar’s kids – it’s only right. After all, Diego saved her from Javier and Andrea also helped to fend off her monstrous father.

Back to the Future:
On Wednesday we saw Renato accepting a mysterious shipment of books and then “accidentally” dropping a copy of Condenados in front of Emilio. We were nonplussed, especially when we noticed the conspiratorial look Renato and Eva shared.

Then Carola finds her copy of the new book snuck into her handbag and guesses correctly that it must have come from her parents.

But from what we learned last night, it seems as if Novelera’s brilliant deduction was correct – Renato has rewritten Condenados, at least in part. One thing we know: in this new version, Ignacia survives. We’d know a lot more if these people weren’t all such maddeningly slow readers. We’d know, for example, if veneno is still in Sebastian’s future in this edition. (And again, hats off to Hombre for guessing that one!) And of course we don’t know if a murderer’s plans can be derailed by writing out his evil deeds.

The red tongue of the stairway swallows them up and spits them back out, over and over and over. And the house just keeps on laughing.

Pilar marches up the stairs in those wild lemon-colored stilettos. She’s going to check on her sister. But when she hears Rebeca say the word Pilar , she races back downstairs to share the miracle with Javier. She wants him to call a doctor to come and evaluate her. Gladly, he says -- now neither manic nor depressed but rather back at baseline bastard – just withdraw your domestic violence accusation and I’ll do whatever you want.

Meanwhile Ignacia arrives at the front door. Just as she is declaring her love for Javier and begging him to admit he feels the same way, Gonzaki bursts in looking for Pilar: She’s living in this house now, right Javier?

Poor Ignacia. She races angrily up the stairs closely followed by Gonzaki. Fuera de aquí, she screams at Pilar.

Are you nuts? asks Pilar (though we all know this is just a rhetorical question.) You think I’m here because of Javier? ¡Te lo regalo! ¡Quédate con él! I’m here for Rebeca!

Then Pilar turns to Gonzaki: I’m here to protect my sister. And like you said in court, you’re just my lawyer. So butt out, buster!

Pilar struts off on the lemon stilettos and Ignacia clumps back down on her impossibly steep wedgies.

Now Renato bursts through the open door and tells Javier to get lost. Ignacia asked her parents to protect her and that’s what they’re going to do. He insists she come back home with him.

Javier smirks and preens here, telling Renato: You’re the one who needs to get lost. ¡Esta es la casa de papi!

Now the red tongue spits Gonzaki back into the foyer. Javier reflects ruefully that the house is filled with people who hate him. (And the viewer reflects that the trick would be to fill the house with people who don’t hate him.)

Gonzo leaves with these words:
Cuídala, Javier – es la única cosa que tengo en la vida.

And the viewers finally let out their collective breath – Amazingly Pilar hasn’t blurted out Rebeca’s progress to Gonzaki. Yet.

It was a dark and stormy night...
Hilda and Emilio are hosting a party to celebrate their upcoming wedding.
So what if Emilio hasn’t told Hilda he turns tricks for a living?
So what if Hilda still can’t bear to be in the same room as her baby?
So what if the party house has no water? (Sure, you can buy ice and get food delivered – but are they planning to bring in Porta-Potties?)
And so what if crazed killer Ismael is lurking in the shadows?

The heavens weigh in with an opinion – fierce winds, rain, bolts of lightning.

The usual suspects file in ...

While in la casa de al lado, Pilar tells Rebeca she’s just going to pop in on the party and toast to Hilda and Emilio’s happiness. (Better let Sebastián taste the champagne first, Pilar.) Javier is safely in his room and all is well. Va a ser una noche muy tranquila coos the oblivious Pilar to her helpless sister. But the frantic expression in Rebeca’s eyes tells us she knows better. She remembers the terrible things that have happened to her already ...

Outside the storm rages. Pilar stops for an umbrella and steps into the wild of the night.

Inside, Javier, fully dressed, emerges from the shadows.

Hola Jean,
Would you tag this for me when you get a chance? Gracias!

LA CASA DE AL LADO

NovelaMaven, I enjoy this recap more than the show itself. tnx a lot.

apparently our lovely Sebastian, is going to leave us. good luck, Ismael! do your best please.
but then what will happen to Anderson Chuncler? we don't have any other good candidate.

Gonzo's face was priceless when Pilar said you’re just my lawyer. pobrecito!

LA CASA DE AL LADO - VIERNES

Wow! Great recap, NovelaMaven. This one is SO full of idioteces. I just can't BELIEVE Hilda. She's distressed that Emilio brought their child to the party? She's all giggly and bridal as long as the kid isn't anywhere in sight. I still can't figure out if she doesn't want the kid because she has some disease or if she just didn't want a kid of any flavor, no matter how healthy. She certainly seems to be over the post-partum depression. From what I know of this syndrome, you're depressed all the time, not just when the baby's around.

And, yes, having a big party with no water is the height of folly. I suppose they can make the case that Emilio paid for all the champagne and goodies, since Pilar's credit cards are cut off. But Pilar keeps employing Karen (who, unlike Yolanda, doesn't seem like the type to work for free out of loyalty). And she offers Hilda a job as well. Right. A seemingly average house with two children over 12 years of age needs TWO servants. And how the heck is Pilar paying for this? And, if she has any money at all, why doesn't she get the water turned on herself?

MI CORAZÓN INSISTE - VIERNES

Boy, this one has turned so very wrong. It's disappointing on so many levels.

Let's see, our rich-kid architect, Andrés, has mad skilz in defeating guys hand-picked by the cartel leader to help out the Godson of their old crony, Tiberio. He punches them once and they're out cold for the rest of this episode, at least.

They have spent what seems like 50% of the last two episodes having Rodrigo arguing with Soledad about her being there at all. Over. And. Over. Again. Then, what do you know, after they've wasted more than enough time for Ángel to have been on his way to the Islas Caiman she takes them right to the rancho.

I'm speculating about Monday. Will they have a time jump and show Adelita and Daniel cooing over the baby? Will Chabelita be todding around on chubby little legs? Will there be a boda? Will it feature Elvis and Mariyn?

At any rate it will at least be over.

And, I agree with you, NovelaMaven, I'm not the correct demograpic for Una Maid en Manhattan either. And it will be a relief to be only watching two. Unless they come up with something amazing, I plan to be down to Flor Salvaje when La Casa ends.

FLOR SALVAJE – VIERNES

We begin with Amanda gazing at her sister in the tub with Rafael Urrieta. Ana pipes up that she and Rafa are making love. Amanda stuck her hand in the tub, seemingly moving the suds out of the way, and observed no evidence of sexual congress. She tells Ana she’s lying. He gets out of the tub and orders Ana to stay there and clean the tub.

The increasingly tiresome Sacramento tells the girls that someone else might have written the letter given to the nun that said she was going away forever. I now see why they made a point of showing Amanda beginning to learn to read and write.

Rafael, grinning happily, proposes a toast for the return of Flor and Alicia. When Ana pops in asking for her glass, Rafa tells her to go away and finish cleaning the tub. He slyly asks if Flor missed him. She tells him she’s there so he’ll leave the ones she loves alone. And, if he doesn’t do that, she’ll set him on fire in his sleep.

Frigida turns up at the medicatura and proceeds to snarl at José María over the patient he’s attending. She says she won’t forgive him for turning his back on her. From context I gathered that this means not running a medical practice AND a hacienda so she won’t have to see the other fruit of her husband’s loins on a regular basis. JM tells her that Amanda and her sisters are coming as well. More hysteria.

Ana asks Rafa how he can continue to pursue one who doesn’t love him. When she also tells him her sister only looks at him with hate, he tells her the same thing he’s thought bubbled, that hate is the other side of the coin of love. He tells her he never saw her sister so strong. He expected her to be beaten and frightened (because of the fire at the merendero), but it was not that way at all. It seems the fiera despertó otra vez. He says he knows she didn’t come for him but, rather, to protect Sacramento and her sisters.

When Frigida hysterically asks how she can bear the presence of Sacramento, JM loses it. He says that, if his father could bear being with her so many years, then she can bear complying with his last wishes. She fires back that Raimundo amused himself at their expense. He replies that, if his father decided to enjoy himself in this way, it was because he never had a minute’s happiness at her side. And, of course, since she knew that, she decided to torment him on his deathbed until he could not take any more. And died. WOW!

Zahra shows up to help out with Alicia. Amanda tells her she’s now Flor. So maybe I’ll switch back to that again. She tells Zahra that la felicidad no se hizo para mí and that this is the only place she knows to live. She left Sacramento because she loves him. But she’s going to be stronger than Rafa. She won’t permit him to harm the ones she loves, and she’s going to get her revenge.

Filomena tells Diana that she has to go to Nueva Esperanza with Enrique to prevent any possibility of his seeking out that other woman. And, of course she’s going. Drat!

Ines reads a magazine like Cosmo, that has articles about how to attract men and wears a uniform that’s short and unbuttoned at the top. And later, she strips to sexy undies and gets on the examining table. JM scolds her. She blurts out that she loves him and that telling Rocío to stay away didn’t really work. JM is shocked that she did that. Hard to tell if he cares that Rocío would have been hurt by that.

Olga goes to the hotel and convinces Francisco to give her a job as a cook.

Ana comes to confront Flor. She keeps on lying, telling her sister that Rafa gives her everything to make her happy. He’s my man, so stay away from him or else…

Rafa calls all the P’s together to witness his declaration that he’s a changed man. He asks for peace with Flor. Just then Sacramento, Susana, and Beba show up.

LA CASA DE AL LADO - VIERNES

Hilda
novelera, I totally agree with you. Mabel may be considered as a depressed woman but as you said Hilda doesn't seem to be depressed at all! the whole thing is una gran tontería. the water thing as well...

MI CORAZON:
You are so right, Novelera. This is one of the lamest ends to a novela I have ever seen. It sort of looks like they ran out of money and interest and are just killing time and our brain cells.

You could be right about Monday's episode. They could deal with Ángel in the first 10 minutes and have the rest of the episode be boda's & babies. I'll watch but only because I've got to see it to the end.

As for Maid in Manhattan, I'll give it a try. It might be amusing.

MI Corazon
Novelera, I feel your frustration and I don't blame you for bailing on M en M.
But Jean I'm hoping you will give it a shot, I will be along for the ride as Telemundo is the only Spanish channel I get, and I can't do a later time slot.
What happened to Mi Corazon? It had so much promise, suspense, surprises, wit. Everything good about that show died about a month ago. All I'm looking forward to is a reprisal of some of our favorite characters to attend the finale as ghosts...
Sadly,

NovelaMaven, as usual outstanding! Best line in your piece...back to baseline bastard! lol. A close second was Ignacia struggling in the too high wedgies, haha. She looks like a clown in those kicks along with the dress that appears to be hand stitched by Omar the Tent Maker.

Novelera, great job with FLOR too. This thing has changed directions so many times now...

FLOR SALVAJE

One of the things that’s constantly hard to watch with both Sacramento and Amanda is their general ignorance to the world around them. Not that I’m blaming them, they both grew up in pretty harsh conditions.

The story with Ana trying to seduce and win Rafa is past tired.

Breaks my heart to see Rocio going through this with JM. As Novelera pointed out, Ines apparently has no concept of tact. She may as well have run her over with a truck with her comments. The scene with Olga comforting her was very good. So well acted by both girls.

The actress playing Diana is good. The role is good because she’s not a bad person at all, quite the contrary. The scene where she was being honest with Enrique was good, you could see him not wanting to hurt her. When it comes to beautiful actresses in novelas, we’ve seen so many…but this girl goes right to the top, amazing beauty.

The girl playing Alicia continues to impress.

So the next chapter will be Flor taking over the 4 P’s and working her revenge plot against Rafa. All the while we’ll get to see Sacto and the girls suffer.

LA CASA

I know Javier has been through the ringer as of late, what with everyone abandoning him and him trying to rape Hilda and then cutting his arm reaching through a plate glass door trying to take her against her free will and all….not to mention that last charade with Gonzo, Ignacia, Pilar and Renato! But what’s up with dude giving up his writing?? We haven’t seen him holed up in his den writing in some time…

What’s up with the judge granting a week when el demandado is a no show?

How about Carmen yelling for Carola to come down and eat, then setting out to count the money all over the kitchen table….then looking all surprised when Carola shows up and asks where did the money come from? The Carmen character looks to be chock full of stupid, I guess she’s what the writers use for filler so then can connect the dots and keep the story moving ;)

I came in too late to know what’s going on with Hilda not wanting her baby?

I loved the look on Javier’s face when Gonzo was leaving and told him…“cuídela Javier, es lo más bonito que he tenido en toda la vida“ Priceless!

Interesting turn with Renato’s copies of the book being different in not only the cover, but the story too. Remember, didn’t Ignacia already dodge a bullet from Ismael when he was still on the run recently? Just like the new version says she’s shot at, pero la bala no le da.

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN

I know it hasn’t started yet but I’m a sucker for romance. The movie was on yesterday on tv and while not the greatest movie, I like the story and am looking forward to this one. Especially since there’s another woman involved. She looks like the wife of Teo in La Reina, no?

MI CORAZON:

I've also been disappointed at how they've dragged out these last two weeks. So many flashbacks, repetitions after commercials, and when there is action, it's ridiculous (as Novelera's examples show). I also think they'll wrap things up quickly and get to weddings, but who knows?

Yes, I miss Tiberio and Debora (and Veronica, and Ramon, and Marcelo and Laura and Correa, and Fulgencio and Rugeles and Apolo and Felix. They really killed off just about everybody. I sure hope we get a least one more scene with Vicki, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I probably will watch Maid en Manhattan, because I like to watch a show at 8, have a break at 9, then watch again at 10. We'll see.

LA CASA DE AL LADO
Great recap, NovelaMaven.
I was relieved to find out that Renato and Eva were involved with the book in order to help their children, which given their characters I surmised.
Novelamaven, it was interesting that you mentioned the white and black (and sterile,Im saying) house of the Condes. I've noticed that in their new apartment, which is done in warm colors, there is a huge picture on the wall,a green background with a woman in yellow, which happens to be from a wall painting from Pompeii, which we know was destroyed by a volcano. Is that symbolism??? The Condes were destroyed, but wind up as better and warmer people? And while I'm at it, has anyone noticed the huge painting of Van Gogh's STARRY NIGHT in Gonzalo's apartment? Maybe that was foreshadowing of his mental illness. And finally, for some reason Sebastian has what looks like an eye chart in his consulting room. I am constantly trying to make out what it says, but so far I think the top line is A X, and the next line is YUIZ. Maybe there's a clue in there. Or maybe it's an inside joke. If anyone has better vision than me, let me know the letters, please.

I agree with all the comments. It's definitely beanie time. And will the real Andeson Cooper, I mean Anderson Chuncler please stand up already....

LA CASA DE AL LADO:

Thanks, NovelaMaven, for another wonderful recap. And Novelera, right on the mark with your prediction that Renato was rewriting Condenados to prevent the family from worrying. Correcto! Of course, just like Renato's idea of faking his death, there's no way this will work, but Renato's heart was in the right place.

So who is Anderson Chuncler. My latest theory is Gonzalo, mainly because none of the characters suspects him. He also knows lots of Ignacia's secrets. The motive? I think he originally wrote LA CASA DE AL LADO to help plan his revenge. I think his dim brother Ismael has no idea that Gonzo wrote it, thought HE discovered this cool book that he could make come true!

I think Gonzalo wrote Condenados, too, having refined what he planned in the first book. The key would be if there is a character like Pilar in both books, and she's way more sympathetic in the second one (not the one Renato rewrote, the original second book).

The only other character (besides ones we've never seen) where it makes some sense to me to be AC is Mabel, but her love of Renato seems to negate this.

Course I've been wrong many, many times :)

BTW, I really like the way Pilar is dressing these days, shorter skirts, higher heels, lower cut blouses. Don't care too much for her character, but I forgive that each time she teeters into the room!

Rand, Hilda and Emilio had divorced (he had taken her virginity and then basically abandoned her to solve all the family mysteries). She moved back to Mexico to have the baby. But the family felt sorry for her, and whisked her back to Miami to have the baby with U.S. medical care. The baby represented everything bad about her life in the U.S., mainly rejection by the rich, uppity people here. Then when the baby was born, she (still unnamed, right?) had Turner's syndrome, which scared Hilda. Then she developed post partum depression.

The depression is much less, and Emilio and others are giving her much more support, but I guess the old issues are lingering, and she can't bring herself to get attached to the baby, after rejecting her for so long. I think she's also afraid of getting hurt again if she commits to loving. It took a while for Emilio to get her to take him back. And what's going to happen when she finds out the nature of his trabajo!?

LA CASA -- viernes

Thanks for the kind words, amigos. I really enjoy reading your comments.

Novelera and Alex, I'm inclined to give Hilda's character a little more slack. As Hombre says, she's recovering from her depression but I think she has a way to go yet. She was traumatized by the way she was treated before and after giving birth and she and her poor nameless baby never had a chance to bond. I think she can get there with continued emotional support and encouragement. Of course Emilio's secret life as a Silver Boy is a ticking bomb -- there's no telling how Hilda will react when it finally explodes.

NJ Sue, I'm convinced the visual details are chosen quite deliberately -- it's one of my favorite things about this show -- and I agree about the sterile, if stylish effect of the black and white Casa Conde. And I've been very aware of the print of "Starry Night" in Gonzalo's apartment and how aptly it reflects his mental state. I hadn't paid much attention to the eye chart in Sebastián's office but I'll look again. Also, I didn't pick up on the Pompei image in the more modest but definitely warmer Conde apartment -- how interesting.

Hombre, you're a pretty good guesser so I wouldn't dismiss your hunch about Gonzaki being AC. Still, I keep thinking it's Javier. I know. Too obvious. What can I say -- I just can't resist a good red herring.

LA CASA -- viernes

Rand,

"The Carmen character looks to be chock full of stupid, I guess she’s what the writers use for filler so they can connect the dots and keep the story moving"

I think so too. I'm having a hard time finding anything interesting about Carmen except, as you say, as a plot device to move the story along.

Since ALL the Conde kids are adopted, I wonder if the parentage of the other two (Emilio and Ignacia) will be important. For a while it looked like we were headed there and then the story veered off in another direction.

LA CASA

as for Gonzo being Anderson Chuncler, I think he's already given up his revenge plan. he even tried to give their house back to them. if he is AC why did he say to Ismael that AC is a fake?
I think he is honest when he says his only desire is to go away with Pilar and begin a new life.
I guess AC is one these: Sebastian, Ismael, Ignacia

MI CORAZON:
I agree with everyone's complaints about the substandard last few weeks. Did a totally new and inexperienced production crew take over? As for the lame final episodes, I wondered if the lame script was actually faithfully following the dated 1998 original TN, "Yo amo a Paquita Gallego" by Julio Jiménez, based on "Romeo and Juliet". However, the below description shows that "Mi Corazon" writers already took a zillion liberties, and greatly improved and updated the plot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yo_amo_a_Paquita_Gallego

"Mi Corazon's" final episodes could have been jazzed up by at least adding more police discussions of the mysterious crime histories of Diana, Angel and Tiberio, with NEW flashbacks of their previously unshown Harvard and corporate escapades. Andres and the police could have interviewed former classmates and ponzied co-workers. These scenes would be more plot-advancing than the incomplete and incomprehensible parachute club outing.

As for Andres' laughably too easy takedowns of Angel's men, he got such training at the military prep school Marcelo stashed him in. Still, I don't buy his lucky knock-outs.

Other silliness: Couldn't Soledad help the police locate Tiberio's ranch through google satellite maps? Wouldn't Lola's feet have fallen off by now?? -- she's been tied standing up to the bed post now for more than a day with no food or water! Soledad got to change her position every few hours and was spoon fed when handcuffed.

Okay. Let's try this:

Suppose one person wrote "La Casa" and someone else wrote "Condenados"? That is, let's say there are TWO Anderson Chunclers (and then there's Renato gumming up the works with his revised "Condenados").

I still think Javier, outwardly "el perro fiel" but inwardly smoldering with resentment at being treated as an "empleado" and envy for the Condes' wealth and power, wrote "La Casa". We know he was in cahoots with Ismael to embezzle from Renato. But what if he was also egging him on, keeping his hatred alive? What if he used the Mora family's anger for his own ends? (The one thing he didn't count on was Iñaki falling in love with Pilar.)

I think Javier WAS surprised when he found a copy of "Condenados" on his desk because he really DIDN'T write it. The author of that book is going to be a shock. Like you, Alex, I'd like it to be Sebastián. But that wouldn't be a big surprise since the writers have taken so much care to paint him as creepy and suspicious.

I don't think it's Ismael. I suppose it could be Mabel, but I think it's someone outside the Mora family.

Ignacia? If so, she plays dumb REALLY convincingly.

Who's left? Pilar? We know she wasn't the shadowy figure who left the book for Javier because she's too tall and willowy. The figure could have been Sebastián or Carmen or Emilio ... Or someone we haven't met yet?

LA CASA -- viernes

NovelaMaven, different writers for the 2 books is a great idea.
as for Javier, he has the best motives to write such a book but I don't think he knows about Gonzaki's real identity: 1) if he had known he would have used it to keep Pilar away from Gonzo, 2) if he had known he would have been much more careful about such a dangerous murderer.
I agree with you about Sebastian & Ignacia. but still we have some strong clues making them related to AC: Sebastian's foto, Ignacia's hallucinations.
and Pilar... why not? unlike Javier, she can still has an unknown side. I think we can add her to the list. see this foto

LA CASA

Alex,

Good point about Javier not knowing Gonzaki's true identity. If he had known, at some point, he would have blabbed it to Pilar.

As for adding Pilar to the list of possibles -- okay, let's. That would be fun. Even the moon has a dark side -- why not Pilar? :)

GENERAL

The thing that puts me off about Una Maid en Manhattan is that it seems from the promos more like the Univisión novelas that I got so tired of seeing. A poor, but kind and quite pretty, woman meets a rich, high society guy. He's attracted to her and they could get the thing over in two weeks. But there's a rich woman who feels entitled to have this guy. She keeps trying to get the galán and pulls a ton of dirty tricks on our worthy heroine.

Meet cute, lots of obstacles, boda, wash, rinse, repeat.

I switched to Telemundo because I thought the plots were more interesting. I adored Doña Bárbara and La Reina del Sur. I liked Alguien te Mira and El Clon. And I'm currently really liking Flor Salvaje. But MeM seems too much like a cliché.

Novelera you're right. It's what I've liked about Telemundo too, the sci-fi, the mystery, drama, etc. I'll probably watch a little though, fast forwarding the unbearable :) Aren't DVR's great!

Hombre, thanks again for the help with La Casa.

You too NovelaMaven, your stuff here is gold, makes it a treat to share in the lunacy :)

It's too bad Telemundo dropped A Corazon Abierto, when they ran season 1 late at night I really enjoyed it. Based on Gray's Anatomy and filmed in Colombia I think, that would be a fun one here too, was a great show.

Rand, yes! I liked A Corazón Abierto also. I never have watched Grey's Anatomy, so the plot was not known to me. I understand there was another season filmed, but, if it was shown in the US, I was not aware of it.

Novelera,

I found a website that has tons of novelas and shows that you can watch online. Season 2 was there but I couldn't bring myself to sit in front of the computer for it. It didn't air in the States. Some really good actors in that one too.

Rand.

MI CORAZON and UNA MAID:

Novelera, you're right, Una Maid does seem like those Univision formulaic shows. But Mi Corazon is like them, too. Maybe Telemundo sets aside the 8 o'clock hour for shows like that, and show edgier dramas at 9 and 10.

Mi Corazon

It was a pleasure reading everyone's recaps and comments.

I'm a little upset that they did not transform Eveltina, that's all I've been waiting for. With all those flashbacks it does appear that this novela ran out of money. And seriously whoever thought of that concept should be given their hat in hand and shown the door. I watched the last two weeks via DVR and each episode took me 15 minutes, I gave that FF button a workout. Thank you for pointing out Andres skills - I too thought something quite not right here.

I would hope they would bring back Tiberio and Chabela, but I guess not. But at least Lola did not have the same postending as Paquita. I wonder if they felt the actress could not handle it. I cared more about Vicky then I did Soledad, and I am sure that's not want they wanted.

And I too will not be watching Maid in Manhattan, none of the actors interest me.

I hope there is some kind of enjoyment with tonight's ending.

Nellie, what do you mean by the following?

"...But at least Lola did not have the same postending as Paquita. I wonder if they felt the actress could not handle it...."

Did you see the original TN? Did Paquita (Lola) have a terrible ending?
--Mary

Mi Corazon
Nellie, I agree with you 100% ---I cared about Vicky much more than about Soledad. Soledad and Sofia were both fairly wooden as actresses go, I thought.
I, too, am holding on to the end only to see A) Etelwina makeover and B) reappearance of Tiberio as a ghost (oh please oh please oh please!!!)
J in Oregon

Mi Corazon:
I also wondered if the finale fizzle was caused by damaged or lost tapes that forced editors to work around unusable or missing crucial scenes with flashbacks to meet airing deadlines, but then I came across this comment on another site:

"The end of the novela is near ;-(
Author: j3r (---)
Date: 10-10-11 07:10 PDT10-10-11 07:10 PDT
they stop filming the novela in 2 weeks. the actors said it on twitter. so most likely they're done shooting around october 23rd. so yeah the novela will end around november 18"

I wouldn't mind the excessive flashbacks if there were powerful scenes in between, but all we get is fizzle instead of sizzle.
--Mary

Mi Corazon
Mary--I don't think we've had a powerful scene since Tiberio died!
I'm guessing that extended schedule has more to do with the start date of the replacement show, M 'n M--maybe contractual obligations by the main actors, etc. It would have been better to have a decent suspenseful ending without all the filler, even if we had to watch Cantinflas movies for a week to take up the slack.
J in Oregon

Mi Corazon finale:
IMHO, this was, after the opening expected bloodshed, an enchanting ending that recaptured the TN's most sorely missed qualities not seen over the past few weeks. No more annoying flashbacks and the finale granted many recappers' fondest wishes with perfecto fairy tale-like staging.

Angel shoots Andres in the shoulder area and drags Lola outside for the police stand-off. It looks like Angel has demanded a gettaway car which pulls up, but unexpectedly Andres stumbles out and shoots him dead. Soledad and Camilo rush foreward, and Lola finally gets to hug her mom.

Andres recovers quickly and everyone back in LA soon celebrates with the returned good guys.

Soon, a very pregnant Adelita is chirping good news to Lopez's gravestone and nearby Lola is doing the same at Tia Chabela's gravestone.

Hope I'm not getting the sequences out of order. Sofia and Camilo have a dreamy wedding and then we see Adelita and Lola fussing over Etelvina at a posh salon. They instruct the beautician to remove her mustache! The makeover is for Soledad's stunning wedding to Rodrigo. Adelita and Lola carry yellow flowers as they escort Soledad down the aisle. Guests toss yellow petals at Soledad as she passes. Afterwards, in front of a mariachi band, Pepe says something about his beloved mustache lady, and from the crowd emerges a glamorous mustache-free Etelvina in an off-the-shoulders fushia gown to dance with him.

Lola has a gown ready for her own traditional wedding to Andres, but a late night phone conversation with him has her dashing outside in a green leather jacket and black shorts to hop on his motorcycle. Once again, they zip off to Vegas for their Marilyn Monroe and Elvis wedding try-again. Before their elopement vows can be finalized, Camilo barges in. Commercial break!

Camilo has brought along little Marcos, but I didn't catch what Marcos said. We then see that the chapel has filled with family and friends who have learned to keep up with their slippery salamander bride.

Right after the vows, Adelita goes into labor, and later while she and Daniel are cooing over the new baby, Daniel gives her a ring.

Outside a casino, we see from behind a flamboyant woman in an animal print dress with a middle-aged cowboy heading inside. Soledad and Rodrigo are already wandering around inside among the slot machines. Soledad is jolted by her glimpse of the animal print lady behind her and is stunned to see that it's Vicky with long curly hair. Vicky tears up and blows her an air kiss while Soledad directs oblivious Rodrigo's attention elsewhere. Vicky tells her date that there's too much smoke in the room for her eyes, so they head outside.

Think Lola and Andres are toasting each other in the last scene.

Wish this episode was two hours long, that we saw more of the Vegas wedding, and that the custody of Marcos got explained (maybe it was, but I missed it).
--Mary

Mi Corazon:
LOL, J in Oregon, those Cantinflas movies do come in handy as holiday or delayed TN filler!
--Mary

Mi Corazon
Mary, thanks for the finale recap. I got my big wish--an Etelwina makeover--it was all I could have wished for! The brief glimpse of Vicky was bittersweet, but a nice surprise. I could only wish for one last glimpse of Tiberioooooo....
J in Oregon

Mi Corazon:
J, I also liked the perfecto "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" aspect of Vicky and Soledad's chance rendezvous. Would like to have seen Lola's face when her surprise posse starting filling up the Vegas chapel pews. Since her previous weddings were always spoiled or forced in some way, we should have been treated to more scenes of this keeper wedding. It looked like even her funny plain Jane maid Francia got a makeover.
--Mary

Corazon

It's over. I got the makeover that I wanted, I did not notice the other makeover. Formula all the way. Nice to see Vicky, hummm I wondered how she was making her living? Rodrigo a cop and he never noticed her at all? Didn't notice his wife was acting strangely? Ah typical.

On the previous version of this, the Lola character (I hope this is okay to state) does go out of it like Soledad did in the beginning, she has to be placed in a psychiatric unit, but of course then reovers and does marry the Andres character, at least that's what I read.

Good luck to all who will be watching Maid in Manhattan. The actress who plays the "bad/evil/antagonistic" part was on Eva Luna and I could not understand her, she seemed to swallow her words, I hope sound editing does a better job here.

MI CORAZON:

Thanks for the recap, Mary. This was a sweet finale, and everyone looked good in their various dress up outfits. I especially liked Lola in her tiny spangled shorts she wore for her Las Vegas wedding.

I think all Marcos said was "Elvis!"

It was funny how Sofia and Camilo were going to live together, but Andres wouldn't allow that, insisting they get married first (which they did).

They actually DID stop the wedding again, at least for a second, as Camilo rushed in to the wedding chapel, yelling, stop the wedding, but just long enough for the family members to get to their seats. It was also funny to hear the Elvis wedding guy doing the vows in English and having Andres and Lola agree in Spanish (except when Andres got tired of all this and blurted out "I do"!

I think Daniel took the liberty of naming Adelita's child, a boy, after Rodrigo and Fulgencio. When he put the ring on Adela's finger, he said "when you're ready", but she finally fully accepted him, and said yes.

Soledad looked very beautiful at her wedding, but Lola's dress at that one was a stunner, showing off her absolutely incredible figure. I'm glad my DVR was taping!

Thanks to all the commenters who stood by this cute, but sometimes dragging show.

LA CASA DE AL LADO:

Another Blockbuster episode, which left me boca abierta! Just as in Condenados, Sebastian WAS poisoned! At the party for Hilda's upcoming wedding, he's really nervous about it. He gives one champagne glass to Pilar, then picks up one that was sitting off by the side. He drinks. A few minutes later, he staggers into the kitchen, blood comes out of his ears and nose, and he's dead!

So this means he's not Anderson Chuncler, right? Not really, although he seems less likely. But he could have written at least the first book. Now that Renato re-wrote the book to take out Ignacia's death, Sebastian was messing up Renato's plan by digging into the inconsistencies too much. Renato may have wanted to put a stop to this!

Meanwhile, in the same party, the lights go out. Did the person who killed Sebastian do that? Nope, Javier, next door, talks to a guy in the power company, telling him not to restore the power until Javier gives the order.

And there's still ANOTHER evil doer in the Ruiz house, as Adolfmael holds a gun to Karen, and later binds and gags her in her bedroom.

Adolfmael also grabs Ignacia, rushes her away at gunpoint somewhere, and says he'll spare her life on one condition. She has to agree to help him kill
Gonzalo!!!! She says okay (sure, why not? :)

Javier cuddles up to Rebeca, hissing in her ear that when he's bad, he's really terrible!

Nibaldo isn't dead, although he's in a coma, and may not last through the night. A bunch of family members visit him in the hospital.

Gonzalo rushes to the country house, and Adolfo has returned to his basement. Gonzo yells at him for messing up Pilar's party, tying up Karen and killing Sebastian. Adolfo says, wait a minute buster, I didn't do number 3. It could have been Pilar! Yes, she certainly has a motive for getting rid of Sebastian, who has been bothering her, so she could be with you. But wouldn't it be funny, big brother, if the one you've been tricking all this time, has been tricking YOU? Pilar is so good and kind, no one would suspect her. And she's a psychologist, can get inside people's minds. Can you really trust her?!!!!!!

So, we are TOTALLY thrown for a loop now, with no clue as to who poisoned Sebastian. Emilio and others are sure it was someone at that party. If so, we only have Gonzalo, Pilar, Karen, Renato, Eva, Ignacia and Emilio (I'm ruling out the kids). My latest guess? Eva, who's secretly psycho! Any other ideas?

LA CASA:

Of course, Javier is still a suspect, and wasn't Yolanda at the party, too? But she's way too nice to be a killer. Or is she?

LA CASA:

Oh, right, Hilda was there, too. I give up.

LA CASA -- lunes

Thanks for a great recap, Hombre!
And what a fabulous episode!

Yes -- The guest list included Hilda, Karen, Yolanda, Emilio, Renato, Gonzalo, Ignacia. And PILAR.

I would love for it to be Pilar. That would mark a new stage in this novela just as unmasking Julián did in "Alguien".

So let's go back to the Bloody Party (as Telemundo is calling it in its promos). Sebastián is a prince right up to the end:

He's afraid to drink his champagne so he sets it down. He watches Pilar, the woman he supposedly loves, pick up the suspect glass and drink. Only when she seems to be unaffected does he pick up another glass -- the one with the poison -- and drink.

The only person who seems to have been positioned to poison the glass that Sebastián was likely to drink from -- Pilar.

Eva has been kind of a dragonlady from the beginning. It's unmasking Pilar as the Blonde Amazon Murderess that would pack a dramatic punch.

Like Ismael, I find the irony delicious to contemplate -- Iñaki worrying what Pilar will think when she finds out he's a murderer and all the while her own hands are stained with blood.

And then there's Javier gloating that when he's bad, he's terrible. Wouldn't it be wonderful if his intended victim, Pilar, were aún más terrible.

Karen was hilarious last night with her bawling Spanglish "It's so cute -- I'm so emotional -- emocional ..." reaction when Hilda and Emilio ask Renato and Pilar to be godparents at their daughter's baptism.

For the first time, Hilda spoke the words "my daughter".

GENERAL

I appreciate being able to choose between Univisión and Telemundo in prime time. I love the way Telemundo takes chances and comes up with Spanish language programming we (or at least I) haven't seen before. Sometimes I love the results -- think "La Reina del Sur" -- and other times not so much -- think "Aurora".

On the other hand, I haven't lost my taste for the big, fat melodrama, Mexican style, that Televisa dishes up so expertly.

The station that most consistently airs shows I want to watch -- Telefutura -- is actually an offshoot of Univisión. I only discovered what a treasure their programming is when I subscribed to a Latino package a year or two back. I was too late for "India" but not for "La Pola" and "La Hija del Mariachi".

Telefutura has a more international flavor than its almost exclusively Mexican parent, Univisión. In the case of the shows from Colombia, I love their subtle, sly touch with comedy and their grittier and more real-world approach to drama. It's also fun to listen to different dialects and accents of Spanish in these programs. And we're all here to polish our Spanish, right? Right:)

LA CASA DE AL ALDO

Hombre, tnx for the great recap.

well, now Sebastian is removed from our list. if Ignacia is really going to be the next victim then we will have only Pilar and Adolfael! no? I too would like it to be Pilar, and if the writer hadn't pointed to her tooo obviously (via Adolfael and then Gonzo's dream) I would have been sure about her.
according to a non written rule, this murderer mustn't be any of minor characters (Karen, Yolanda, Hilda); and I can't imagine any motives for Mabel, Renato, Eva, Emilio and Carola to act so all along.
so in my opinion let's keep Ignacia, Adolael and dear Pilar in the list ;)

LA CASA DE AL ALDO

NovelaMaven, I liked Karen too, so hilarious.
and interesting point about Hilda saying "my daughter".
I also liked Mabel shouting at Adolfael "dejalo en paz" while he was teasing Gonzo. actually Mabel is one of my favorite characters in this show!! especially I like the way the actress portrays her.

LA CASA:

Alex, I agree that since the writers focused so much on Pilar, that makes her less likely to be the killer. But she still could be.

However, as to motives, I think EVERY character has all sorts of motives. Renato wants to save his daughter by getting rid of prying Sebastian. Eva has lots of secrets, and could be behind any sort of treachery. Gonzalo seems to be over his initial revenge, but he's a bit deranged, so who knows? Hilda has mental issues. Emilio seems like such a dope, always jumping to the wrong conclusions. Could it be because he's trying to throw every one else off? Pilar and Javier have various motives.

I also think it's possible that one person wrote La Casa de al Lado, a SECOND person wrote Condenados, and a THIRD person poisoned Sebastian.

I don't think we can discount anyone yet. And although I agree it's usually a major character, what about all those old mysteries where "the butler" did it? That would mean Nibaldo. Unlikely, but...:)

Mi Corazon
Oh no--did I miss seeing Rosa de Francia made over at the wedding? Too bad. She was one of my favorite characters.
Well, even though M 'n M looks predictable and formulaic, I still enjoy those if the characters are interesting.
I really like the actress who plays the villainess (Eva Luna), but not so crazy about the hero (Aurora). We'll see.
Thanks everyone! All you commenters added greatly to my enjoyment of Mi Corazon! Hope to see you on M 'n M.

MI CORAZÓN INSISTE - GRAN FINAL

Thanks for the recap, Mary. I was pleased with the final episode.

For once, the unwritten rule was broken, the galán actually did kill the villain. I liked the determined look on Andrés' face when he did it and there was no BS remorse after.

Yes, they did have Elvis and Marilyn after all!

Soledad was gorgeous with her hair up and with her great wedding gown. I wish she and Vicki would have hugged in the casino, but I guess Sole didn't quite trust Rodrigo not to revert to cop mode and arrest her. That leopard print dress was a scream!

I was pretty sure Adelita was going to have a boy. Another girl would have been repetitious.

I guess the budget didn't run to an older version of Chabelita. I didn't see Rosa de Francia at the wedding, so maybe she was the one caring for Chabelita, who must be a year old by now.

LA CASA - LUNES

They showed Capítulos Culminantes last night, so the end is in sight, sometime in January, I believe.

I was also amazed that Sebastián let Pilar drink from the glass he thought was poisoned.

I'm getting bored with Adolfmael's breaking and entering routine. It's been done to death.

Javier had the shortest turnaround to being a "better man" than any character I remember. I think he's over wanting Pilar back, but he definitely doesn't want to be found guilty of spousal abuse.

LA CASA

Hombre, you are right but what I meant by "motives" is not only about the murder, but also all their acts all along.
e.g. if Gonzo is behind it why does he act as if he is suspecting Ismael?
if Emilio is AC, why was he so afraid of Sebastian?
unless there are 2 or 3 different persons involved - as you say. though still I can't explain how these 2/3 are connected to each other.

FLOR SALVAJE – LUNES

We open in the 4P’s bar, where Sacramento, Susana, and La Beba are staring in amazement at Amanda, who has morphed into Flor. Rafa tells Flor they should take the conversation into the street, with a dark hint about something bad happening if Sacto stays there much longer. She tells the three of them: Estoy en el único lugar que me corresponde. She also tells Sacto that she felt suffocated with him. She wants them to go back to Timotes and leave her in peace and that she’s already forgotten them.

Olga’s new boss, Rigoberto the Chef, is a real jerk. He resents Zahra being around and is offended that Francisco has gone over his head to hire Olga. HE should do all the hiring of kitchen staff. His sous chef is the black actress who has been in so many Telemundo productions, usually playing someone’s nanny.

Diana is another jerk in this episode. She’s snooty that no one takes their luggage upon arrival at Francisco’s hotel, and it only gets worse.

Ana seems stunned that her sister is no longer caring for the younger ones. She pipes up that people thought she was bad, but Santa Amanda Bendita is worse.

Alicia is in terrible shape. José María gives her a sedative, but says she’ll awake with the same craving. He tells Zahra not to be manipulated because she’ll try to get money and/or liquor.

Flor tells Rafa that, if the bar can be re-opened, she wants it to be entirely hers, I assume legally. She tells him she learned how to manage a business at the merendero, the one that he had burned down. They make a bet. If they can get the right to re-open, she will get 100% of the business. If they can’t re-open, he’ll get what he wants most in the world. I assume that’s her in his bed.

Francisco tells Enrique he won’t even be able to work with Diana stuck to him like glue. Diana gets on the phone with Filomena and gripes about Nueva Esperanza, telling her the people here live in the 1500’s, there’s no pool, and her bed is hard. Boo hoo!

Flor goes to sit with Alicia and tells her, although she’s not awake, that rejecting Sacto and the girls was the hardest thing she ever did, but someday they’ll understand.

Zahra comes to rag on Rafa for what she knows he did, somehow threaten Flor into leaving her family. He tells her she was the same; she would have done anything, including killing, to have him. When she angrily disagrees, he points at her stomach, saying she already did so. Wow! I wish I could hit the guy myself. He forced her to have an abortion and now she’s a killer.

Rafa asks La Mina to follow Flor and keep an eye on her day and night.

Francisco is sitting with Olga when Diana and Enrique come up. He politely introduces them, but the rotten Diana makes a crack about her getting the job in a hotel kitchen when her previous position was in a bordello. Enrique snarls at her after this.

Correcaminos is not working out in the little store. Dudi covers her mistakes with his own salary from the business.

Francisco and Zahra have dinner with Enrique and Diana. Diana does it again, seemingly unable to control her acid tongue. She says something about some women being born to do whatever comes easily, while some are born to be educated and classy. You don’t mess with Zahra like that. She smiles sweetly at Francisco and asks him if he told Enrique who is back in town yet.

Sacramento shows up to plead with Flor once more, without the girls. They fall into bed together and seemingly have a great time. But when she wakes up with him in her bed, she tells him he’s her first client and he should pay her and leave. Yikes!

LA CASA -- lunes

Say -- Pilar has previously killed ONE of her men -- Ricardo Merino. Sure she was defending Diego but killing him was ... well ... overkill. So maybe she's going down the list. If so, I hope Javier is ahead of Gonzaki.

And if you want to talk about motive for killing Sebastián, you might extend the suspect pool to us viewers. We had to put up with that meddling sanctimonious twit too!

LA CASA

"And if you want to talk about motive for killing Sebastián, you might extend the suspect pool to us viewers. We had to put up with that meddling sanctimonious twit too!"

very true! haha

"I hope Javier is ahead of Gonzaki"

here I think even Diego is ahead of Gonzaki. Gonzo was really worried about Pilar being AC. so he doesn't know who AC is.

LA CASA:

Okay, after thinking about it some more, I AM getting on the Pilar bandwagon. The original book was called The House Next Door. It was all about the Condes' getting killed. But that should mean that the author lived next door. Thus, Javier and Pilar are the prime suspects to be Anderson Chuncler. And of those two, I'm going with Pilar. As Adolfael said, those long hours in her consultorio (or home with the kids at school) could have provided her with plenty of writing time. And yes, NovelaMaven, she did come on quite a bit too strong in killing Ricardo Merino. How ironic if Gonzalo and Pilar are like a modern day Bonnie and Clyde. But although they're in love, can they trust each other?

MI CORAZON:

I bailed on this over a month ago, when they kept saying ultimos capitulos, when in reality it went on for a few more weeks. what is that?!?!? apart from La Pola, I have yet to see a telenovela where i have not lost interest in the last 2months. they just love to draaaaaag it out.

LA CASA

What if Pilar set out the champagne glasses as a loyalty test--

She knows he is terrified of being poisoned (after all, she wrote the book!)...

So if he allows her to drink from what HE thinks is poison, he flunks. He gets a "D" as in DIE!

If he had tried to protect her -- if he had warned her not to drink from that cup -- maybe he would have passed her test and would still be around to annoy us.

LA CASA

"although I agree it's usually a major character, what about all those old mysteries where "the butler" did it? That would mean Nibaldo. Unlikely, but...:)"

when I watched the 1st episode I wished the servants were some serious mysterious characters extending the suspect pool. but Karen, Yolanda and Nibaldo... never have been of that kind! :)

"What if Pilar set out the champagne glasses as a loyalty test"

wow! great idea!

Mi Corazon:
Everyone, don't fret if you missed Rosa de Francia's "makeover" -- if my eyes weren't playing tricks, I glimpsed her sitting with everyone at Lola's wedding and she wasn't in her maid's uniform. Since everyone was dressed up "on short notice", I wondered if everyone guessed ahead of Lola that she'd elope to that chapel and almost beat her there. Or maybe Andres conspired with them to surprise Lola? Was granny Carmen Mirabal there with Marcos? Anyway, wish we got to see more of the revelry. I would love to see the same cast in an English mini-series version on NBC.

Don't think I'll watch Maid in Manhattan since the original movie was so-so.
--Mary

Great comments everyone.

Novelera, nice recap with FLOR.

So what can I say, I'm at a loss for words and still can't believe the scene last night with Flor and Sacramento. He wakes up with a smile (the boy is dumb) and she's 100% preocupada. So he's got his blinders on thinking everything is just peachy and I'm expecting her to say something like, nothings changed, that was the last time for old times sake, not roll. But instead she's asking him for money???? What! Then she repeats it! Just pay up boy, and git! lol. That was TOO MUCH!

LA CASA

I don't even know where to start with this one. Ismael shows up to tie up Karen, for what?? Because he was bored? Wow.

Then he takes Ignacia and after a drive tells her he wants her to help him kill Gonzalo, thats that, so you can go ahead and get out. And then she's like "right here"? Like she'd prefer he get her all the way back home and safely into bed. This guy shows her 10 different types of crazy and then she questions him when he's about to let her out of the car?? lol.

FLOR SALVAJE - LUNES

Rand, I had a somewhat different take on the Amanda/Sacto coupling. She doesn't love him, but she's fond of him. I think she enjoyed the sex. They've had good sex before.

But to me the reason she told him to pay up and get out was to drive him further away from her. She didn't want him to have any illusions that the roll in the hay changed anything. She knew that asking him for money would be the ultimate insult. Her main motivation is keeping him alive. He HAS to stay away from her or Rafael will kill him. Rafael's burning down the merendero and the awful note he sent to her by Rufino convinced her that he would destroy anything that kept them apart.

So, her solution is to leave the sisters with the man they love, keep all of them away from her, and get revenge on Rafael Urrieta.

Of course, this is a telenovela and they can't do the logical thing. They started with absolutely nothing in Timotes and got by. Sacto even had a job before he lost it being a jealous fool. There's no reason they couldn't go far, far away and start over again. But Amanda has turned fatalistic. She believes that she can never escape from Rafa, except maybe by destroying him.

Mi Corazon
Mary--like John Lennon said, Give "Una Maid en Manhattan" a chance!
It surely won't be a piece of fluff like the movie. You just know there will be villains and dirty tricks galore!
I'm talking it up because I don't want to be viewing it "a solas".

FLOR SALVAJE

Novelera, great points.

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN

Well I just saw the premier.

First, there's some really good actors here.

Tons of Mexican slang, listening to a lot of it reminded me of listening to my Mexican friends.

The pilot was really well done imo, you could start to see several different stories unfold and how some will come together in New York.

The actor playing the powerful narco who was abused as a boy en the pueblo is very good. I forget his name, first saw him in Dame Chocolate a long time ago. He's the real life husband or boyfriend of one of Telemundo's presentadoras.

For some reason the hero, Eugenio Sillar is working construction in the city but you kind of know that it's a front, not sure why yet. One of the guys on the construction site befriends him immediately and does some nice favors for him, so you know when the time comes he'll no doubt receive some generosity.

The lead actress is good too.

I guess I expected what we saw in the previews for the first show but actually it was a lot more serious, much more drama than I expected.

It'll be interesting to see the history between Maritza, Victor and Miguelito unfold as there's 2 guys there that love her and she hasn't even met Cristobal yet.

The scene where Miguel found out that Maritza had a child was really well acted. The surprise on his face and then the sadness was really well done. And then to know that Victor is the father made it even harder to swallow for him.

Una Maid
Rand, thanks for the recap. I hoped this wasn't going to be simply a do-over of the movie (which I haven't seen), and was pleasantly surprised by the intriguing plotlines that are being laid down. Always intriguing to have a villain you feel a bit sorry for (Miguelito).

UNA MAID

J, I agree. I'm glad I've got the DVR set because at that hour I'll need it, last night was kind of a fluke that I caught the show when it aired.

FLOR SALVAJE

Wow! This thing has finally turned in some new directions and has my interest again.

Looking forward to watching Amanda come up with a revenge plan and ultimately seeing Rafael go down hard. This could be really good.

Alicia finding out about Francisco owning the hotel was gold, this girl could act in movies I think. Then when she confronted him in front of Zhara, Enrique and Diana, really good.

Well I didn't think it would be possible, but now I can see it. The last scene when Cat said hello to Sacto at the petrolero, you could see it in his eyes. And after what he went through, who could blame him?

Speaking of that, the look in Amanda's eyes when he finally accepted it all and called her nothing but a ramera and a zorra, and worse, and then actually broke stash with the dollars and paid her. She was horrified.

One of the best episodes in a long time.

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN

I didn't really give this a fair trial since I was running around trying to get my house ready for the holiday house tour we have every year in our neighborhood the first Saturday in December. That is also why I haven't been posting.

The Michoacan travelog was like an Univision novela. But I HATE THE KID! I can't stand precocious, smart alecky kids in novelas. The lead actress, then known as just Litzy, also was cast with an obnoxious kid in Frijolito. So I turned it off in the middle but I may try again when I have more time.

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN - Gran Estreno

Marisa lives in Michuocan, Mexico. She works at an Inn. Her son Lalo (Eduardo) gives informal guides to tourists in the Monarch butterfly preserve. He wants to go to America. He knows some English because his father, Victor is American. But he doesn't like his father, since he left to go to America. Marisa also isn't too fond of Victor, and when Victor comes back to Mexico, she rejects his attempts to get back together.

A powerful druglord, Miguelito, comes back, and also wants Marisa. She hates him, but he uses his power to get what he wants. When a local guy, Esteban stands up against his men, they take him out to the woods and beat him to a bloody pulp. Big mistake. Either kill him or don't take him out. Miguelito shoots his henchmen who goofed DEAD.

After Esteban staggers back into town and into the hospital, Miguelito's men seal the deal by shooting him and HIS WIFE dead. Marisa was right outside the door, and knows Miguel is responsible. She tells the cops, who are afraid to confront Miguel, to call the army, which apparently they do. By this time Miguel has bought the Inn, and Marisa is leaving, to go to Morelia. She, Lalo, Miguelito, and maybe even Victor are inside the Inn when the cops and army show up and want Miguelito to surrender. No way will he do that!

In New York, Cristobal gets a job in construction. It sort of looks as if he's like the rich owner pretending to be poor, but we're not sure. He's befriended by Lucas. They're ordered around by the cruel foreman Ronnie. They have to do way more than average work. Cris even goes to live at Lucas's with 2 other guys. Lucas is suspicious of Cris's expensive cell phone. Cris calls Sylvia (Veronica from Mi Corazon), his rich former girlfriend, and says he's moved on.

Yes, if Marisa comes to New York and meets Cris, she'll have 3 guys after her (Victor, father of her child, Cris, and Miguelito, mean guy from back home). The guy who plays Miguelito also played a similar role in several other novelas, Dame Chocolate and Perro Amor. His name is Khotan.

LA CASA DE AL LADO:

We get a breather from all the action of the other day. Only a few things happened.

Gonzaki asks Adolfael if he has proof Pilar could be bad, and he doesn't. So Gonzo gets the copy of keys to Pilar's consultorio, and will probably snoop around there.

Emilio confronts Renato about the books, especially after Carola says her Mom must have put one in her handbag. Emil swipes the keys to Renato's car and finds the box of Condenado books, so Renato has to admit that he wrote them (but nothing about the fact that it was a re-write yet).

Ignacia begs Javier, come away with me. He hesitates for a few commercial breaks, then says okay, I love you, but wait til after tomorrow's hearing in which I'm going to drive Pilar and her case into the ground.

Sebastian was definitely poisoned by rat poison, put in the champagne glass, and Emilio, Gonzo and others know this, but don't know who did it. Hilda and Yolanda find a can of rat poison sitting out in the kitchen.

Hilda is very, very gradually warming up to her baby daughter.

The doctor attending Nibaldo tells Yolanda it's pretty hopeless, but Yolanda tells Nibaldo to fight, she ORDERS him to fight. Who could resist that? I'm pretty sure he'll recover. If he does, and tells people that Adolfo shot him, well big deal, everybody already knows Adofo's a killer, and absolutely NO POLICE are looking for him. Interestingly, Gonzaki knows where he is, but hasn't turned him in. Those two brothers sure have a weird relationship.

LA CASA:

Also, Pilar catches Javier kissing Ignacia. She says, fine, take her, just give me a divorce. Nope, says Javier, not unless you drop your abuse lawsuit.

Javier also says he'll drop the abuse lawsuit if Pilar lets him have Diego, to give him a macho makeover. No way.

And Diego and Andrea (mainly Diego) are thinking of "moving" their Aunt Rebeca to their house. Rebeca's not heavy, but these two are very little. Can they do it?

LA CASA DE AL LADO -- martes

Great job, Hombre! Thanks.

I agree -- this was a relatively uneventful one after Monday's wild ride. Now all the players are running scared, looking suspiciously over their shoulders.

Gonzaki's SECRET to-do list just got a little longer:

Find "Carolita" (He overhears Eva mention she has been coming to the apartment so it's obvious the Conde family knows where she is.)

Take care of the Rebeca problem. (Pilar has told him that Rebeca is starting to talk although so far all she has said is "Pilar")

Investigate Pilar starting with a search of home and office to find out if she's been fooling him all along.

His PUBLIC to-do list:

Represent Pilar in court when she accuses Javier of domestic violence.
-----------------------
Up until now, Javier has had emotional amnesia. One minute he's jumping Hilda, the next he's oozing over Rebeca. He's sooooo concerned about leaving his son in Pilar's care that he offers to trade Rebeca for Diego. And now -- forget Diego, forget Rebeca, forget Pilar (well, once he's squashed her like a cockroach in court) -- he's promising to go away with Ignacia, his one true love.

I'm completely ready for fate -- or should I say doom -- to catch up with Ignacia. I've had enough of her drama queen, hand on heart, "Te lo suplico"'s to last me for a while. Her role has been one of the most thankless in the story, one of the least nuanced and the most grating. The actress is doing a fine job of hitting that same false note over and over.
-------------
Hombre, I'd be surprised if Nibaldo recovered. Now that we're in the final stretch, I expect our players to be removed one by one...
As Karen would say -- oooh spoooky.

FLOR SALVAJE – MARTES

After Flor insists he pay, Sacto, as usual, goes way overboard, telling her she’s the worst person in the entire world and maldita la hora en que me enamoré de ti. He goes on to say that he’ll be her curse and calls her a whore. And to the same degree he loved her before, he will now hate her. I think he should be able to figure out what’s going on, that she’s being so cold to save his life. But no, he’s not that smart.

He also tells her she’ll regret what she’s done. He’s going to become the most powerful man in the area. Her sisters will be princesses and go to college, but she’ll just be a prostitute.

Very frustrating. Francisco interjects before Zahra can say WHO returned to Nueva Esperanza, telling Enrique that it’s Lourdes Guerrero, who’s moving to town since her husband is the mayor.

While Flor is dealing with Sacto and Zahra is with Francisco, Alicia drinks a good sized bottle of booze and passes out.

Susana has overheard Manuela and José María talking about the problem with Frigida accepting them being there and also the fact that they are under age and Sacto is not their legal guardian. She’s very sad. Sacto returns to the hacienda and tells Susana that it’s as if Flor Salvaje had taken over Amanda.

La Mina, spying for Rafa, finds out that Sacto was in Zahra’s house with Flor. When Flor comes into the room, she asks if they did the deed. Flor says yes they did and she made him pay for it.

Since their school uniforms are in Timotes, the girls have to piece together something to wear to their old school. Frigida says that Susana is trying to provoke men with her bare shouldered outfit. She also says that they have to take the sheets every day to the kitchen and boil them to kill their lice. Boy, where is that pie cart from the Univisión bloggers that is supposed to run over the villain. Frigida needs a two-ton pie cart.

Flor tells the truth to Zahra. She does love Sacramento. Rafa had the business burned down. She knows he’d eventually have Sacto killed. And Sacto can’t leave the area because he needs to be near José María and Manuela, his family, as well as to be near Cat’s child when it’s born. She also tells Zahra that she’ll make Rafa suffer for killing Pablo. Just killing him is too easy for him, she wants lots of pain.

Mina goes right to Rafa and tells him that Sacramento spent the night. He asks if they slept together, and she tells him not exactly slept. But she tells him about Flor making him pay. But his eyes blaze at the thought that he touched her. Mina tells Rafa, gently; that she doesn’t think Flor will ever accept him after what happened to Pablo. He pipes up that Flor knows he will never abandon her like Pablo did. He denies that he did anything to him to Mina.

Rigoberto, the chef, comes to Francisco to resign over Olga’s being hired. He feels threatened. Francisco butters him up, saying that every great chef has pupils. He should teach her. He seems to buy it.

Rocío spills the beans to Alicia that Zahra’s new boyfriend is Francisco, her old nemesis. Alicia goes to the hotel yelling at Francisco.

Enrique goes to Timotes before Francisco has a chance to tell him Alicia is back. He meets up with a prostitute and asks questions about the cartel gunfight. He eventually ends up in Alicia’s old room and is told by the landlady what a disgrace Alicia was.

Sacto goes to the oil fields and glad hands with his old compañeros de trabajo. He takes Avelino aside, confirms that he used to work on a hacienda, and hires him to be his right-hand guy. He runs into Cat, who smiles and says “we” are happy to see you, rubbing her stomach.

Mariano Guerrero shows up to talk with his sister Rocío. He starts out with “in an election, someone wins and someone loses”. Rocío isn’t buying it and asks about all the last minute voters the governor trucked in. He starts to beg her forgiveness and actually gets tears in his eyes. Bah! Rafa shows up asking what this desgraciado is doing there.

Thank you Hombre! I missed some of that and was glad for a second set of eyes. But it is a shock to see the heroine dressed in something besides rubber band dresses (Mi Corazon).

LA CASA

Hombre & NovelaMaven, tnx a lot.

"Those two brothers sure have a weird relationship"
very true, Ismael asks Ignacia to help him kill Gonzo and then see how he acts in front of him!

"Investigate Pilar starting with a search of home and office to find out if she's been fooling him all along"
it's interesting how Gonzo is worried about Pilar being the same as him.

LA CASA DE AL LADO
Thanks for great summaries and comments.

I think Novelamaven's idea about there being several people involved makes sense.I especially found interesting her comment about the first book being called the
house next door" makes it seems as though it was written from Javier or Pilar's perspective. It makeds a lot of sense. To watch Javier writing all the time is such a red herring that it makes it hard not to discount him as the author of the original book. But I think he makes more sense than Pilar as the author. He certainly has more of a motivation. We know that Renato is the author of THE CONDEMNED. I am thinking it was Adolfo who killed Sebastian. The rat poison container was found in the kitchen where Adolfo was discovered by Karen, necessitating his tying her up, but not killing her. I think his main motivation now is to screw with Inaki's head about Pilar before he kills him. He obviously was successful!!

Re Pilar: Although she always seemed to like the Condes, there was Javier's affair with Ignacia. And maybe ifthey were brought down, that would mean Javier would lose his position and relationship with them, which would be a good revenge if we accept that she is totally deranged, which I don't think she is.

By the way, I think Nibaldo will live.

LA CASA DE AL LADO -- martes

NJ Sue,
"We know that Renato is the author of THE CONDEMNED"

Do we? I had the impression that someone other than Renato wrote "Condenados" and later Renato (and Eva) published a bowdlerized edition of the book, removing all the threats to their family, starting with Ignacia/Irene's death.

It's true that the rat poison was found in the kitchen where we saw Ismael lurking. But if it had been there the night of the murder, wouldn't the police have found it? [Haha. Don't even bother answering -- just hang on tight to your beanie.]

Rat poison has been used before in the story -- remember the poisoned chocolates? Could the two episodes be related? Are we going to hear from crazy Maribel again?

LA CASA

"Rat poison has been used before in the story -- remember the poisoned chocolates? "
but the results were too different! fortunately :)

LA CASA DE AL LADO
You're right:Renato and Eva fixed CONDENADOS, but Renato didn't actually write it. Has Ignacia not read his version? if so, why would she be so hysterical about being the next one killed? Renato's purpose in the rewrite was to change Ignacia's fate so she would not be so frightened and upset.

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN:

A lot changed from the first day. Miguelito is in the inn with Marisa and Lalo as hostages. His henchman is outside, holding Victor by the throat. Victor breaks free, and gets shot in the shoulder as he yells out that Marisa and Lalo shouldn't worry about him. The cops shoot the henchman. Miguelito makes a break for it, and is killed by the cops! No more bad guy, although he has other gang members in the area.

Now Lalo likes his Dad, Victor, for saving their lives. Victor proposes to Marisa (they weren't married), and she initially says no, she doesn't love him, and would never get married just to get U.S. citizenship. But after his heroics, she decides to give him a chance and says yes.

They all go to Los Angeles for the wedding. There we see Marisa's mother, Marcela, and Victor's mother, Gloria. We also see Marisa's step-father Teo, who calls Lalo "Victor". We also see Victor's sister Yasmin or "Yaya". Marcela isn't too happy about the wedding, thinking Victor will never change. She also doesn't like Gloria, since years ago, she apparently made a play for Marisa's Dad, who was married, then dropped him, and somehow he died. Marcela blames Gloria.

After the wedding, we find out just why Victor had to "change". First he gets roaring drunk and embarrasses everyone, then Marisa catches him having sex with a floozy named Blanca!!! So much for his changing.

Back in New York, Cristobal is trying to get proof that Ronnie (not sure of that name, could be Bruno) the foreman, is stealing from the company, and maybe using substandard building materials. Ronnie's on to him, though, and has his buds trash Cris and Lucas's apartment. Cris also goes to Sylvia's rich girl apartment, gives her back her keys, telling her he doesn't care about her money, and all that, he doesn't love her, and it's over.

So the stage is set for Marisa to come to New York somehow, and meet Cris.

LA CASA DE AL LADO:

Okay, now we know who Anderson Chuncler is! (maybe). Gonzalo goes to Pilar's consultorio, and finds a box with new copies of La Casa de al Lado and Condenados, and also the two original manuscripts. So it's Pilar!!! There is a small chance, though, that this was a setup by Adolfael, who could have planted these things? Not likely, but possible.

Pilar sure doesn't act like a deranged killer. She has her spousal abuse hearing, and can't find Gonzalo (he's so upset that Pilar "tricked him", he can't bear to face her. So she represents herself. She recites all the horrific things Javier did, but then he points out that she's not so lily white, she has an ongoing affair with her lawyer! This seems to make the judge decide that there's not enough evidence to proceed with the hearing, and Pilar is shocked, starts crying, until a surprise witness shows up to testify for her. It's Diego!

Our young foolish couple of Hilda and Emilio gets separate advice. Karen tells Hilda to love her child, because life is no fairy tale, and a child is for life. Yolanda tells Emilio to tell Hilda the truth about his escort job, because the truth hurts - but it doesn't kill. Nibaldo could die, but she's there for him, despite what he's done.

Ignacia tells Renato goodbye, she's leaving with Javier (earlier Pilar told her it was highly unlikely Javier would actually leave). I don't think Ignacia has read the revised Condenados, and she still thinks she's next up for a bullet (she may well be). Also, Adolfmael keeps bugging her, driving her around, asking her to help kill Gonzalo, and although she's SURE there's some connection between Gonzalo and Adolfael, Adolfo won't spill the beans. So she's ready to make her grand exit (again).

Andrea and Diego actually tell Pilar they have a plan to move Rebeca to their house, but we don't know what it is.

Renato and Eva admit to Emilio that they rewrote Condenados to protect Ignacia. Emilio again says someone at the party poisoned Sebastian. Yes, it certainly could be Pilar. But it could also be Adolfo, and I still thought I detected a funny look on Eva's face (not shocked enough). The mysteries continue!

LA CASA

Great work, as usual, Hombre. Thanks!

Yes, there is a chance that the writers are toying with us, that Ismael has made Pilar look guilty just to screw with Iñaki. He could have planted evidence in Pilar's home and office and then directed Iñaki right to it.

Then too -- Remember Ismael using the dream phrase with Ignacia -- "You should have stayed in your 'taller', painting, and none of this would have happened..." She is startled and jumps to the conclusion that Ismael is Anderson Chuncler. Of course we know he has read the books very carefully so quoting a passage doesn't prove he wrote those words.
------

That judge was some piece of work. Pilar talks about Javier's physical and emotion abuse, that after he impregnated their neighbor, she learned he had a long-standing affair with her; he had an affair with her own sister; he monitored her every move; he followed her; he broke her cellphone and wouldn't let her have another; he forced her to have sex with him; and in the end, he actually hit her. Yes, she was unfaithful to him but only after discovering his "double identity", his long-standing infidelity. And she has witnesses to all her allegations. But once the judge hears her admission of infidelity, he is ready to throw the whole matter out! What????

Diego's entrance was certainly dramatic. Will he convince the judge to take his mother's words seriously?

LA CASA DE AL LADO

Hombre, tnx for the great recap.

this time it had been as it seemed!
I think it is a setup by Adolfo, and Adolfo was our first suspect when we heard about AC fist time. but later they tried to confuse us with Javier, Sebastian, Renato and now Pilar, while Adolfo was there before our eyes all along. he has been always jealous of Pilar (for atracting Gonzo's attention) and in many ways tried to eliminate her from Gonzo's life: by shooting her, by revealing Gonzo's true identity and...

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN:

thanks for the recap, Hombre. i'm just happy Miguelito's out of the way; one less contender.

LA CASA - MIÉRCOLES

Great recap, Hombre.

Yes, I think Pilar has been set up. It's probably Adolfmael, but it crossed my mind it could have been a patient who had access to her office - Ricardo Merino's sister?

I certainly hope Pilar shows more judgment than I think she has and gives Gonzaki the boot. Despite thinking that she wrote those books, he's supposed to be her lawyer and should have been there to do his job. I think in a real legal world, not a TN legal world, he could be censured, if not disbarred, for not appearing for his client.

And, NovelaMaven, I was also outraged at that judge, the very picture of a fat, lazy member of some old boys' club, getting ready to dismiss Pilar's case because she had an affair with Gonzaki.

Una Maid en Manhattan
Thanks Hombre for the comprehensive recap.
I am sooo sad that my new favorite bad boy, Miguelito, is already dead!!!
What was the purpose of having him be in the story? He didn't really make Victor look like much of a hero, and once he was dead, what was the point in Marisa leaving town?
Just crying bitter tears already,
J in Oregon

LA CASA

"Despite thinking that she wrote those books, he's supposed to be her lawyer and should have been there to do his job."
Gonzalo is not a normal person, and Pilar is his world. if he loses his "pure motherly Pilar" he won't care for his job nor anything else on earth :)

Novela Maven -- I totally agree with you that the best telenovelas lately have been on Telefutura, and especially the reruns of Colombian telenovelas. But I have read (don't know if it is true) that RCN (the Colombian channel) and Telemundo have signed some sort of contract that will stop Telefutura from doing Colombian rerns. I hope it isn't true.

LA CASA - MIÉRCOLES

I had another thought last night. I guess these writers must forget what they wrote before.

Weren't Karen and Yolanda supposed to appear as witnesses in Pilar's spousal abuse case? So she shows up with nobody and her son has to put in a last minute appearance?

FLOR SALVAJE – MIÉRCOLES

Sacramento talks with Cat, promising to be a father to their child, even to attend doctor’s appointments before the birth, but he doesn’t tell her he and Flor have split

Mariano tells Rocío that she should forgive him because they’re siblings. He leaves her with a mysterious envelope.

There’s a truly heartrending series of scenes with Alicia. Firstly, she screams at Francisco that he’s the cause of all her problems and slaps him hard. Zahra tries to get her to come away with her. But, of course, Diana can’t resist and pipes up that she can’t believe that this is the woman Enrique painted. And furthermore that Enrique is NOT going to return to her. Zahra tells Diana she’s not well. Enrique shows up after Alicia is no longer there. Francisco tries to have a private conversation with Enrique, but Diana insists on staying. Diana bites the bullet and tells Enrique Alicia is back. Enrique is practically in tears, saying it’s all his fault. Diana gets to see how much he still loves her.

Rafael comes to Flor to find out what really happened with Sacramento. She tells him of course she doesn’t love Sacto; she can’t love anyone because he’ll kill them. He smirks that she must have been thinking of him while she was in bed with Sacto. Two huge slaps to his face! He grabs her and kisses her against her will. She reaches behind, breaks a beer bottle and threatens him with it. She tells him she and Sacto made love the whole night long, and that she’ll make love with whoever requires it. He gets furious at the thought that she’ll have other “clients”. He decides to give her money to be with him and throws it on the bed. She tells him she’s a prostitute and will be one for the rest of her life, but she WILL choose her clients. And, by the way, pick up the freakin’ money and leave.

Mariano comes to tell Cat that Sacto and Flor have split. She’s pretty happy at the news. But Mariano again tries to convince Cat that he’s the better man, that he’d love her child like his own. She pushes him away. He says he needs to spend a few days there, with Lourdes of course, until they’re settled in NE. Cat isn’t pleased, but when he reminds her of saving her from the snakes, she relents. On his way out he tells the guys that this place is a great hacienda for a mayor. [He would have his hands full getting shut of Lourdes, even if Cat did accept him.]

Enrique goes to see Alicia. What a sad, sad scene. She tells him everything is true: she drank too much, then became addicted to drugs, and mixed up with very bad people. She tells him she met his wife and she’s very beautiful and elegant, the right wife for him. She tells him she’s tired and needs to rest. Later on she tells the P’s that she feels like she’s dying for having done the right thing.

Flor tells Rocío that she has to appear to forgive Mariano. That one needs to keep their friends close but their enemies closer. She tells her that’s the way to get revenge on him. She wants her help in re-opening the 4P Bar. Since Rocío got SO many votes and has such influence, Flor thinks the Governor will listen. And if that’s not enough, she will offer him “a little extra”.

We are treated to another insult fest by Rafa toward Ana. He tells her he only has to be in the same room with Flor to get completely excited and “ready”. When she whines, he tells her he’ll never want her around and to get out. Later she tells Fideo she’s not going to stand for Flor stealing “her man”. Boy, Ana and Rafa are actually equally delusional!

Anon 5:45

"But I have read (don't know if it is true) that RCN (the Colombian channel) and Telemundo have signed some sort of contract that will stop Telefutura from doing Colombian reruns."

Wow. I hope not. But if it is true, maybe Telemundo will run those novelas instead. (I know you can usually dig them up online but it's a lot nicer watching them on tv.)

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN

Just like Hombre said, a ton of changes after only one day. I don't get it. I also don't get the way Cristobal is in so much trouble from the very first minute. Oh well, maybe they're setting up filler so he can become recognized and important, apparently he isn't rich after all. Not yet anyway. I think Novelera said a couple of days ago that she hates the kid. I'm right there with you on that one, the little dude is 100% annoying.

FLOR SALVAJE

Excellent recap Novelera. I agree with you, the scenes with Alicia were heartbreaking.

I look forward to seeing incredible revenge taken on Rafael and Mariano.

Mina does nothing for me, never did in Padres Pobres Ninos Ricos or El Clon either.

Diana is going to get her heart broken badly. I feel for her, she never had any fault in any of what's happening. Maybe Enrique never really loved her the way she loved him, but she hasn't shown us she's a bad person. A little snobby, eh, yeah :)

Ana....ehh no. Same tired act.

I'd like to see Jose Maria man up and get back with Rocio.

LA CASA

The lunacy is starting to lose me, can't really get up for the finally here. It has its moments though, the other day when Pilar caught Javier and Ignacia and he chases her out in to the foyer while trying to pull his pants up, had me cracking up. Miguel Varoni is SO good!

I mean, dad sees his daughter freaked out about a book, so he goes to the trouble of re-writing it and changing plot lines, then secretly dropping it off in places. All in the name of getting said daughter to calm down??? I know, grab a little tighter on to my beanie :)

FLOR SALVAJE - MIÉRCOLES

I agree, Rand. I don't see how in the world José María can even be conflicted about the choice between the gorgeous, intelligent, kind Rocío and the immature crybaby Ines.

I'm always intrigued by the different reactions our male bloggers have to some of the female characters than we females; ergo...

I can't STAND Diana. At first, of course, Filomena was the bad influence on her, and she might have been willing to let Enrique go before they married without the constant Filomena pressure. But especially since she arrived in NE, she's been a complete jerk. She whined that the hotel wasn't up to her standards, she insulted Zahra when they had dinner together, she insulted Olga when Francisco introduced her, and she very well knew the effect her words would have on Alicia, that she didn't think this was the woman he painted. The poor creature feels badly enough as it is. She gets that cold, snobby look on her face, and I'd just like to slap her silly!

Novelera,

She's no doubt a snob, I agree with what you say about how she treated Olga. Not good.

Lately I think her mean intentions are her defenses, she's in the "jungle" and definitely a fish out of water. Add to the fact that the only reason she's there is because she knows Enrique is there to find Alicia so yeah, she feels threatened and rightfully so. She feels him slipping away and she's scared because she really does love him.

LA CASA DE AL LADO – jueves

Diego to the rescue (again!)

After the judge hears Diego's testimony, he decides:
1. Javier is not to come near his children for six months. During this time, he will be undergo a psychological evaluation.
2. He is to restore power and water to the family house immediately.
3. He must pay Pilar a monthly stipend commensurate with his income.
4. If he doesn’t comply with the court’s decision, he will be held in contempt.
5. He is not to leave the country.

Yolanda doesn’t want to be the one to squeal.
But she has to do something. Ask Emilio to tell you about Orlando and what he does for a living, she tells Hilda.

Beauty and the Beast – or – Bonnie and Clyde?
Gonzaki is waiting outside when Pilar and Diego get back home. “Where were you when I needed you in court?” she asks him. “What happened to you?”

His response: “I discovered your secret – I know you wrote those books planning the deaths of the Conde family. I found them in your office. And I know you killed Sebastián too. I’m not judging you – I just want to know why you did it.”

Pilar looks at him as if he is speaking in tongues. She denies knowing about any books and is furious that he invaded her office. He must be crazy! She never wants to see him again!

Javier sulks back to the Casa Conde muttering angrily about that maldito enano Diego. Between slugs of booze, he tells Rebeca that her sister will NEVER be allowed back in the house again. Cue the doorbell.

Javier tries to block her entrance but Pilar strides right past him and up to Rebeca. He drags her out of the bedroom and throws her onto the Rape Banquette. He’s still macho man! But before he can unzip, she clobbers him with the booze bottle and runs down the stairs. He’s right behind her, bleeding and holding his head. He falls down and is still.

Meanwhile, Ignacia has entered downstairs, shlepping her suitcases and giant purse. She gazes in horror at her fallen hero. “What did you do, Pilar?” she cries.

Don’t lose your focus Pilar – it’s a trick! Oh no! Canny Javier springs up and grabs her in a choke hold. Ignacia babbles ineffectually but does nothing to stop what looks like a murder in progress. It is Javier himself who finally pulls away and seems horrified at what he was about to do. By now Hilda, worried about Pilar, arrives at the door and she leads her back home.

Gonzaki retreats to the family abattoir wanting a heart to heart talk with his little brother. He was afraid to tell Pilar the truth about himself but maybe now...

Ismael interrupts him sardonically: “... maybe now that you know she’s worse than you. ... What are you gonna do, plan massacres together?”

Ismael blames Pilar for coming between the brothers and turning them into enemies. Gonzaki says it isn’t so. He needs his brother. But Ismael isn’t buying it and chases him out at gunpoint. Next time, he promises, he’ll pull the trigger.

Ignacia finds out that Pilar’s win is her loss. She and Javier aren’t going anywhere. She brushes off Javier’s promises to protect her. She knows she’s doomed to die. Her cell phone interrupts her theatrics and she steps aside to answer. It’s Adolfael...

The time has come, he tells her. She is to get Gonzaki to the agreed upon place at the agreed upon time tomorrow ...

Nibaldo’s condition has improved slightly, the doctor informs Yolanda. Her love, it seems, is stronger than anything medicine has to offer. Are we still in the same novela or what?

LA CASA DE AL LADO
Great summary.

I never bought into Pilar as the author and murderer. It was such a pleasure to see her energized, and not the sniveling, deer-in-the- headlight Pilar we've had to put up with for this whole novela. Also glad that she wants nothing to do with Gonzalo after his accusation and betrayal --not being there for her at her crucial moment with Javier.

I still think that Adolfo used the rat poison to kill Sebastian. When I last posted I said I thought his main motivation was to screw with Gonzalo's head re Pilar. This turned out to be true. However, what I thought was interesting was that it wasn't just a revenge thing, but because he was jealous of Pilar and Gonzaki's love for her. He felt that it was because of Gonzaki's love for her that their "team" was broken up and their relationship changed --sufficiently for Gonzaki to try and kill him, which he pointed to as the changing moment, (No kidding!!!)I wouldn't be surprised if Javier wrote the books, and that he and Adolfo initially were in the plan together. All the characters keep saying that Sebastian was killed by someone in the house during the party. Adolfo was there --and I still can't think of anyone else having a motivation.

LA CASA DE AL LADO

awesome recap, tnx NovelaMaven.

as the best scene(s) of the week I vote for the Gonzo-Adolfael scene(s). the theme is interesting and the 2 actors are very well teamed up.

what about Diego's plan to save his tia? forgotten again?

LA CASA DE AL LADO:

Great summary, NovelaMaven! I especially liked the "rape banquette" phrase. That little bench sure does get a lot of action.

NJ Sue, at that point, I totally agree with you. Adolfo and Javier may have written the books. Adolfo probably poisoned Sebastian. It makes perfect sense. Until the next thing happens to throw us for a loop!

BTW, Carola told Emilio that Matias once said, the most obvious person is usually the guilty one. And the truth is right in front of you. She KNOWS the truth, and despite her fugitive status, she's going to confront that person. But who's she talking about? Gonzalo? If so, I'm not sure she's making a smart move.

Javier was sure wild last night. Faking that he was knocked out! He's got more ups and downs than a yoyo. And Ignacia isn't much different. She was so excited to see Javier's packed suitcases (lots of pink and purple clothes, what's THAT all about), but then he comes flying down the stairs, starts choking Pilar, and later tells Ignacia he can't go, court orders. Now what, Ignacia? What's a drama queen to do? Her last words, after Adolfo said make sure to bring Gonzalo to this specified place tomorrow were ¿Qué hago? (what am I going to do?). I can't wait to find out.

UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN:

Now that Victor has shown his true colors, Marisa and Lalo are leaving. Lalo's dream is to go to New York, so they're off. Marisa doesn't tell Victor where they're going, but he finds out later anyway.

She meets up with her childhood friend Belinda (Rita from Pasión), who offers to put them up. But she's got an insufferable husband named Hugo. Marisa and Lalo check out Queens for new digs, and find a nice place, owned by a slobbering, sniveling old rich guy named Estanislao, who talks with some kind of European accent. He's like a dirty old man, but for now, Marisa and Lalo are on cloud nine, having their own place in the Big Apple.

Lalo is tested at a school, and I think he's TOO smart, almost as if that's a problem. Marisa is job hunting, and Estanislao says she could work in one of his properties.

Meanwhile, Cristóbal gets in a fight with Ronny. Both Cris and Lucas are fired. Cris goes to jail, but is bailed out by a rich lawyer friend named Tito. Lucas is starting to wonder how Cris has so many rich connections. Cris convinces Lucas to beg for his job back. BTW, when Cris was taken away, I think he had snatched some papers that proved Ronny was stealing and using substandard materials. But messing with Ronny could be dangerous, as he's in a syndicate or gang, of some sort.

At the end of the episode, Cris, Ronny and Tito are going to some meeting, and we'll find out what's really going on tonight.

LA CASA -- jueves

Well NJ Sue and Hombre, I agree that all the arrows are pointing at Ismael as Sebastián's killer at the moment. I'm still not sure though. It's so hard for Ismael not to brag about his kills. Also, logistically, it's hard to figure how he got the poison into the particular glass that the victim drank from.

Besides, everyone on this show is such a gifted liar that I don't know if I'm ready to believe Pilar's denials.

Ah well, we'll find out soon enough.

Alex, I sure hope Diego follows through on his plan to rescue his tia. He has already saved Hilda and his mother. Why not Rebeca? He's little but he's brave and smart.

And I totally agree -- the Gonzo-Adolfmael scenes are really compelling.

BTW, Hombre, I thought Javier was throwing PILAR'S clothes into the suitcase. (The other day, she moved in. After his humiliating loss in court, Jav has vowed to keep her out of 'his' house forever and I suppose he was going to throw the suitcase out to the curb.)

LA CASA:

Right, Pilar has all those pink and purple clothes! Thanks, NovelaMaven!

LA CASA - JUEVES

Was that or was that not absolutely wonderful seeing Javier being the one "squashed like a cucaracha" in the courtroom? I backed up the DVR and watched it again!

The incongruous thing was that the judge was all ready to dismiss the case before Diego appeared, but he had in his notes the copies of the emails Javier sent to Diego. Those were sent before by Gonzalo. Huh?

These Conde kids are unbelievable. Emilio finds the books and IMMEDIATELY accuses his father, the same father that has unconditionally loved and supported him, who warmly accepted Hilda, and on and on, of writing the books and murdering Sebastián.

God, the characterization of Ignacia is tiresome. She stands there and watches Javier nearly kill Pilar. And she seems to be seriously considering bringing Gonzaki to a remote spot so Adolfo can kill him. Can you say accessory to murder?

I don't have much hope, but I surely hope Pilar sticks to her guns and refuses to take Gonzaki back.

He did say he was going to tell her who he really was. Doubt that will happen or, if it does, she won't believe him.

FLOR SALVAJE - JUEVES

I managed to misplace the notes I had for this one, so thanks to Deb on Telenovela World for her Photographic recap, which reminded me of key events.

Piruetas sneaks into Alicia’s room through the window. He has always had a thing for her, and he apologizes for the way he treated her before. She cons him into taking her to the 4P Bar and getting into the liquor. She gets roaring drunk.

Ana sees the ghost of Clara again after being banished to her old house by Rafa. She works herself up into a rage and goes into the street and begins screaming at her sister. She then grabs a handy knife being used by Fideo to peel potatoes and repeatedly tries to slash Amanda. She is restrained several times by the Ps but breaks loose again. Rafa shows up and stops her. He sends her back to Clara’s old house. Later he goes and tells her again that she’s a stupid Indian and it makes him sick to even look at her.

Fideo comes up with the bright idea of a suicide attempt to get him remorsefully back in her arms. [As if]

The imbecile Ines is sobbing buckets of tears in her room and says what she’s done is so bad she can’t even enter the church to confess. Bah!

Rocío goes to the medicatura to get some sedatives for Alicia. She is all business and ready to leave as soon as she gets them. José María looks at her longingly and asks her to stay a while. This guy needs a swift kick. When Rocío is ready to commit to him, he runs away from her. But, when she’s given up on the whole thing and moved on, he wants to be with her again.

Ines’ mother charges into the medicatura like a bull, accusing JM of having raped Ines. He tries to say there must be a mistake, but she isn’t having it. Then she proceeds to spread this rumor all over. Rocío looks sad and leaves.

Cat gets all dolled up with a sexy dress and a ton of makeup and goes to Hacienda Rojas to seduce Sacto. He isn’t buying it, and tells her he needs time to recover. Cat is very sweet until she’s not (usually a very quick turnaround) and she starts snarling insults about Flor. And she’s mad that he considers Susana and Beba to be his family. What about her? It’s always all about Cat all the time.

JM tells Sacto about what happened with Ines. Ines, meanwhile, has “confessed” with the priest her mother sent to her bedroom that she had gotten nude (nah, just panties and bra, for crying out loud) in front of José María. The priest looks dumbfounded. And that’s it? Nothing else? Sacto and JM show up at Ines’ house to straighten this out. I can hardly wait to see her mother’s face when Ines spits out what really happened.

Earlier on José María and Sacramento were riding the boundaries of the Hacienda so Sacto would become familiar. Rufino and some other jerks point guns at them. Later, Sacramento has an idea. He’s a dunce with women, but smarter in other areas. He thinks it’s odd that Hacienda Rojas borders the new lands Rafa bought and that Rafa has oil while they have none. Also, Rufino tells Rafa about JM and Sacto appearing at the border and asks “What if he finds out about the linderos (boundaries). Sure enough Sacto goes to the registry office and looks at the two sets of property documents. He’s right. It appears that Rafa moved the fences adding land that belongs to Hacienda Rojas to the lands he just bought and, bingo, more oil.

Una Maid
Thanks Hombre. I hope we won't be seeing many more scenes on the building site, that is very stressful, as is watching Marisa being subjected to groping by her smarmy landlord. Ecchhhh!!!!

LA CASA

Just a couple of quick comments. I know it's all been said and it's all true, Javier is up and down so fast you don't know what to expect. He gave the ol college try to another rape and then about 10 minutes later professed his love to Ignacia. lol.

And Ignacia, supposedly ready to go anywhere with no plan whatsoever all in the name of survival...is gonna hang around and help kill someone because a guy on the phone is telling her that's what she has to do. Huh??

Behind closed doors used to be a great series. Now watching ep 140 and it's gotten so boring. It's now a pain to watch.
