La Fuerza del Destino #70 Mon 11/14/11 The Galvan Kids Throw Tantrums All Evening Long and Give Celia a Lot to Pray About

Camilo and Antolín talk over beers at a bar. Cam is bent out of shape about Ivan’s expected return and the fact that despite time and tenderness, Lucia will never feel for him what she feels for Ivan. Anto suggests patience. “When we least expect it, life gives us surprises.” Cam is worried that Lucia will go running back to Ivan when he shows up. Anto doesn’t think that will happen. Ivan’s got his life with his wife and son, and Lucia has hers with Cam and their daughter. Plus, Lucia would never separate a child from its father, and that’s Camilo, RIGHT? (Camilo takes a big gulp from his beer in answer.)

Tony calls Dirty PI, who is hanging out with Bob. Dirty PI claims he was out of town the last few days, and that’s why he’s been out of touch. But he had a colleague follow MP, and they reported nothing happened. Tony is livid. How come he didn’t tell him his daughter-in-law has been frequenting the casinos?! They found the gambling chips among her things. Dirty PI tries to play it off. Tony asked him to report if she had a lover, not if she’s gambling. Tony says everything is important, calls Dirty PI incompetent, and says that he’s fired and that he’ll report him to his superiors. He hangs up on him. Dirty PI is ticked and tells Bob what happened before taking off. Bob’s beginning to think MP is a hindrance (estorbo).

At the Ag Association, Lucrezia is telling JJ how she’s been put in charge of Camilo’s experimental crop of cártamo (safflower). Since Lucrezia holds JJ’s opinion higher than God’s, she’s asking him if Camilo is making a smart move by growing it. The government has been pushing the farmers to grow it for some time, it does well in this climate, and it’s used in a lot of things. However, it’s really susceptible to disease. “Well, then it’s a bad idea?” JJ tells her honestly that if, with his cleverness, Camilo finds a way to strengthen the plant, perhaps through crossbreeding, then it could be a very profitable crop. Lucrezia doesn’t like these crazy modern ideas.

JJ changes the topic to more personal business. When is Lucrezia going to tell him why Lucia married Camilo? Lucrezia claims it was love, but JJ notes the VERY premature birth of their daughter. He asks if Camilo married Lucia to cover up that she got knocked up by Ivan. Lucrezia denies. JJ claims he’s discreet. Yeah, so discreet that you blackmailed me for water the last time I told you a secret. Lucrezia is sure that if he had any other useful info he would just blackmail her again. “Nope. The baby is Camilo’s child.” JJ doesn’t believe it. (And neither does anybody else JJ, so how exactly would you blackmail Lucrezia with a secret that isn’t a secret?)

The maids at the McGuire Mexico house are scared to pick up the phone since it hasn’t rung since the patrones left. When they finally answer, Tony tells them he’s coming tomorrow, with Benito and Bruno, but no Ivan and Alex (no one mentioned MP). The maids are excited to fix them some yummy food. Tony then informs Benito that he’s traveling with him to Mexico. Benito is disappointed since he planned on playing Good PI, and following MP while everyone was away. He tells Maria that he wanted to do it for Alex, more than anyone else. He knows that one of them will catch her in the act sometime soon. “That woman is not only a hussy/flirt (coqueta), but also shameless (cíníca)!”

MP pours herself a drink and stalks around her messy gilded cage. “This house is a damn prison.” She picks up her phone and interrupts Bob and Juliet, who are having dinner and wine at home. MP scolds him for turning off his phone. She wants to see him tomorrow and expects him to cancel his other appointment. When his wife comes around the corner, Bob pretends he’s speaking to some guy named Ishmael who wants to play blackjack next week. He hangs up on her and tells Juliet Ishmael sends greetings and kisses. He gets a little too affectionate, raising Juliet’s suspicions.

David is also enjoying wine and dinner with a woman who is not his ex MP. It’s Lucia’s friend who’s had a crush on him for a while. It looks like the feelings are mutual. She tells him he’s all a woman could ask for, after listing his great qualities. Well, not everyone, considering MP dumped him. She knows MP is flighty, but she is a one man kind of woman, like Lucia. David points out that Lucia married Camilo. She is certain that Lucia has never stopped loving Ivan. But she loves him in silence so as not to hurt Camilo. David thinks Cam deserves to be loved for real. She agrees, but brings the conversation back to her and David. In fact, she wants to take the conversation back to her place! David begs off for another day since he’s got so much work the next morning. (Hmm…is our boy ready to take the plunge?)

Benito and Tony prepare to leave, but MP is in an alcohol induced stupor. Tony gives Maria their numbers in Alamos and asks for any reports of funny business from MP. Maria is on it.

Once in Alamos, they are greeted warmly by the maids. Tony says his heart is in two places—his house in L.A. and this one. The maids have kept his return a secret, but David is already in the offices in the other wing of the house. He’s happy to see Tony. Tony gets right to asking why Camilo is quitting. David says it’s up to Camilo to tell him.

At ranch Socorro, Perla is running a fever and crying, and the Curiel women and Camilo are concerned. They decide to take her to the hospital.

David and Tony have still not heard from Camilo and Tony is getting antsy. After Tony exits, the secretary looks at David with concern and says Tony is going to find out everything. David thinks there’s no avoiding it.

Tony is greeted by Cleto at Ranch Socorro. Carly greets him warmly in the living room. They make small talk, but then both admit they didn’t like how their last conversation ended. Tony decides to tell Carly the whole story, so that she won’t judge Ivan harshly. Outside, Lucia, Camilo and Lucrezia return with Perla. They see the car and Benito waiting outside and assume Ivan is inside. Lucia decides they need to just get it done with and enter the house.

Carly explains how hurt she was by what Ivan did, but she understands. Anyway, Lucia has moved on and it’s best that Ivan does too because… She doesn’t get the chance to finish before Lucia, Lucrezia and Camilo walk in with Perla. Greetings all around. “And who is this beautiful little girl?” “She’s our daughter. Camilo and I got married.” (Wow! Tony’s got great game face. He doesn’t even flinch at this news. But he does look at the baby really hard.)

Saul and Gordo look in the shattered fun house mirror in the Meandragon House of Horrors. Saul doesn’t want to go outside with his crutch (muleta) because he doesn’t want people pitying him. But he’s antsy to leave the house. He tries to practice walking without the crutch, but can’t without much effort and pain. Gordo wonders why JJ won’t pay for the last surgeries for his leg. “Because he hates me.” Saul swears he will find a way to get that money. He doesn’t want to be a damn cripple (cojo) the rest of his life! Gordo says he can count on him. After Saul leaves the room, Gordo questions the maid about Judith’s whereabouts and if she has a boyfriend. (Yuck!)

Lucrezia takes the baby to her room and updates Carly on what the doctor said. Perla has an ear infection. Tony wonders why they didn’t tell them about the marriage or baby. Carly says it came as a surprise to them too. But so is love. Tony pretends to buy it, tells Camilo he’ll see him in the office, Carly that they’ll see each other again soon, and congratulates Lucia on her baby and good choice in husband. They all breathe a sigh of relief and Camilo goes off to talk to Tony in Casa McGuire. Lucia gives Carly a big hug.

Camilo tries to convince Tony that he and Lucia love each other, and got involved as soon as Ivan left—Lucia because she wanted to get Ivan out of her heart (un clavo saco otro clavo/one nail drives out another), and he because he really loved her. Tony doesn’t press for any details, but he doesn’t think this should affect their working relationship, nor does he believe Ivan will want the lands back. Camilo thinks Ivan will surely be upset that he married Lucia. Tony believes in the power of their long-standing friendship. Camilo is decided; he’s resigning. Tony has no choice but to accept. He’ll have David prepare the paperwork. They shake on it.

Lucrezia wonders if Tony was mad. Carly tells her that Tony just wished Lucia well for finding a good man. Lucia’s already long face looks twice its length, and she mopes off to her room. Lucrezia, who has no emotional intelligence when it comes to her younger daughter, asks for news of her oldest demon spawn. Tony didn’t tell Carly anything about MP, but he did tell her that Ivan hasn’t forgotten about Lucia, and they know that Lucia hasn’t forgotten Ivan. That might be so, but they both are married to someone else and each have a child. Carly points out that Ivan married for Alex, and Lucia married for Perla. She had hoped that what had happened to her (falling in love with her husband after marriage) would happen to Lucia, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. The big difference is that Lucrezia’s bio-father disappeared off the face of the map, but Ivan is still very present. Lucrezia’s not worried about all that “feelings” stuff. She wants to know if Tony’s going to make them give back the loan. He’s too much of a gentleman, says Carly, but Lurcrezia thinks ALL men are the same.

Tony gives Good PI Benito a mission- find out when Camilo and Lucia got married and when their daughter was born.

Ivan and Alex have some quality father-son time on their boat in the Sea of Cortez. They chat about the marine life they have seen so far and still want to see.

In the kitchen, Benito chats with the maids and gets the gossip on how quickly Perla was born after the wedding. Meanwhile, in his office, Tony is trying to get info out of David. David admits he knew Lucia and Camilo were getting married but made a promise to Camilo not to say anything, more because Lucia didn’t want them to know. Tony asks if the reason Lucia wanted to keep quiet about it is because she was pregnant with Ivan’s child and marrying Camilo for cover. David admits he had the same suspicions, but Camilo denied it. They joke about David not falling for any of his dad’s tricks now that he’s in charge of McGuire Inc. David laughs it off. He knows his dad too well for that.

Alex spots the white limestone cliffs off the boat and says they look like an iced cake (pastel glaceado). Alex wants to call Lucia so that he can share all that he’s seeing. Both Ivan and Alex are sad that they have no phone signal. Ivan wonders if Lucia is thinking of him as he is thinking of her.

Benito is very pleased to report that Lucia and Cam got married a month and a half after they left for L.A., and that the baby was born six months after the wedding. No incubator was needed. The baby left the hospital two days later. Benito’s conclusion—either Lucia was cheating on Ivan, or Lucia had Ivan’s baby and married Cam to cover it up. Tony makes Benito promise not to tell Ivan. “Sí Mister.” Benito has something else to say. He spills the beans about hearing MP speaking to her lover on the phone. He intended to follow her but now he can’t do anything. Tony says he’ll handle it.

Lucia continues to work on her thesis and Cam comes in to check on the baby. He tries to get affectionate, but she doesn’t even look up. Lucia asks how things went with Tony, and he tells her it went well and Tony accepted his resignation. Lucia then slips in a question about how Ivan is doing. Camilo shares his displeasure at the question, but Lucia doesn’t think the question was out of turn. They both want to know how Ivan is, for their own reasons. “Yeah, me because he’s my best friend (amigo de alma), and you because you haven’t been able to forget him.” Camilo storms out.

Antolín is begging Carolina to marry him. (If only she could see the HUNK she is turning down!) She doesn’t want to tie him to a blind woman. It’s not important to Anto, plus they can try another surgery. “He who doesn’t take risks, doesn’t win.” Caro then goes to her next standard excuses—the surgery costs too much and she doesn’t want to leave Gerry alone. Anto is not on board with a living arrangement like Camilo and Lucia have. Caro doesn’t see why they couldn’t live in the house with Gerry since there is plenty of room. Anto wants to get his own house where his princess can reign. Caro points out that she already runs things in the Lomeli house. Anto is not on board with this. He could understand her wanting to stay when Alex was in the house, because he’s a child. But Gerry is a grown man! There are plenty of men who live alone. Anto finally catches on that all of these have been excuses. He thinks it’s a lie that she loves him. She swears she loves him, she just can’t leave Gerry. “Then marry him!” Anto storms out leaving Caro crying on the couch.

Celia is reaming Carmen out. All these months supposedly in school and they haven’t seen any sign of it—no homework or grades. How do they know that she’s really taking classes or just using the money? Carmen tries to bs. These are computer classes, so they wouldn’t see her carrying homework. And by the way, she needs money to buy a computer. Celia wonders what happened to the money her brother gives her as an allowance, and why is she always wearing new clothes? How can she go to school in old rags?! (trapos viejos) Carmen outshouts Celia, and storms out (that makes all three Galvan kids this evening). Celia begs the Virgin for help, just as Camilo sulks into the room. Celia throws in a plea to the Virgin for him too.

David brings the good news to his family that he is now the director of McGuire Inc. Mexico! The Mondragon women cover him with hugs and kisses. JJ says he knew Camilo wouldn’t last, but he always knew David had the right stuff (tamaño/ the size). (Let me take a few seconds to LOL here! He even said it with a straight face!) He knows that he was hard on David, and even doubted him at some point. But now David’s demonstrated to him that he knows what he’s doing. “I’m proud of you.” David thanks him but doesn’t seem to be buying it. JJ sees a perfect partnership forming between him at the Ag Association and David at McGuire Inc. Total Mondragon domination of the region. (Bwahahaha!!) He could become David’s advisor, since he knows SO much and David doesn’t. He sends the women off to paint their nails while he continues to try to scam David. The first order of business that he wants David’s help with, is a big loan from the McGuires for the hydroponics.

Judith and Esther are on the other side of the door hoping that David doesn’t bow to JJ’s pressure. If he does, then Esther swears she’ll divorce JJ. Judith says she’s heard that song before, but Esther never follows through.

Lucia admits to Carly that she thinks she made a mistake marrying Camilo. She thinks she would have been better off as a single mother. “You’re scaring me.” I care for him (lo quiero) and I’m really grateful to him, but I don’t love him. It’s an effort for me to make love to him. And you know why? Because it’s not love (amor). It’s for wifely duty.”

Camilo is having the same discussion with Celia and telling her Lucia is only going through the motions to satisfy him. There’s no passion; no love. Celia thinks that women often need more time. Camilo knows that’s not the case, and with Tony’s return things have just gotten more complicated. Camilo thinks after all this time, she should love him. Celia thinks perhaps the shame of having another man’s baby is part of the problem. Camilo doesn’t think in this day and age that’s a real excuse. But he does know that if Ivan comes back and tries to take Perla and Lucia away from him, he won’t allow it. He swears!

Avances: Benito snaps pictures of MP and Bob in the act. Camilo looks really fine shirtless. Tony tells Carly he knows Perla is Ivan’s baby. We again hear Camilo vow to not allow Ivan to take his women. The announcer says it’s war!

Info on safflower (cártamo):
Used for coloring and flavoring foods, in medicines, and making red (carthamin) and yellow dyes, especially before cheaper aniline dyes became available. For the last fifty years or so, the plant has been cultivated mainly for the vegetable oil extracted from its seeds. In April 2007 it was reported that genetically modified safflower has been bred to create insulin. Dried Safflower flowers are used in traditional Chinese medicine to alleviate pain, increase circulation, and reduce bruising. They are included in herbal remedies for menstrual pain and minor physical trauma.

The safflower, an annual plant, is native to a climate with a long dry season and a limited rainy season. Its defenses are very poor against numerous fungal diseases in rainy conditions, after its seedling stage. This greatly restricts the areas in which it can be grown commercially around the globe. The plant is also very susceptible to frost injury (from stem elongation to maturity).

You learn something new everyday.

Wow, that was up fast Vivi! Thanks! And an extra bit on safflower too! Obviously the writers know a lot about Mexican agriculture.

I'm just wondering if Ivan returns to Sonora before or after he kicks MP to the curb? How long is Tony going to keep quiet with Ivan.

Those old fart meddlers (metiches)! They pushed real hard one direction, and now they're ready to backpedal and start messing around with young people's lives all over again? Figures!

[Oh, Camilo, we never should have gotten you involved! Why don't you just back off now and pretend it never happened, OK?]

Audrey

Thanks Vivi! My ears perked up at the mention of Carthamus tinctorius. Here's a painting I made a few years ago. I grew some in my garden up here in New Jersey, and of course it lasted until the frost. A very beautiful yellow-orange thistle.

That is a BEAUTIFUL painting LXV. Wow! And it is a pretty plant/flower, and very useful too!

Audrey- I agree about the old metiches. Tony thought it was best at the time to spread the rumor about Ivan living with MP as true man and wife (although it was only one time) in order to help Lucia move on. And Carly pushed Lucia and Camilo to marry each other, hoping/assuming Lucia would grow to love Camilo. Now they both see the consequences of their actions. Had Lucia not given up on Ivan because she thought he was sharing MP's bed every night, then she wouldn't have married Camilo (causing him all this pain and jealousy). She would have just accepted being a single mom, thinking that she and Ivan were pining for each other from afar. Now the situation is even messier than it was before. And that's pretty darn messy!

Thanks for the recap Vivi and the info on safflower as well. I'm wondering how soon until the final weeks notices start showing up.

I'm really concerned about Camilo. His he-man attitude does not bode well for him living to the end of the TN. Perhaps his continued negative reaction will actually cause Lucia to show some passion.

Audrey - ITA, mostly I enjoy Tony and Carlota but their last round of "help" move us to this sad new epoch. If only both had put more of their attention to poor Alex.

Beautiful painting LXV!

Thanks for the recap Vivi. It was quick.

I feel very sad for Camilo. He knew this lack of reciprocal love could happen and he claimed he could accept it. Even his Momma told him. Now he is acting all pissed off. I like you Camilo but tough cookies. Deal with it.

Vitriol Quazi

BYW - thanks for the lesson on the safflower. I was wondering about it.

Vitriol Quazi

I vote for Camilo to dump Lucia & take back up with Judith. I betcha Judith wouldn't lay there like a lump in bed! I'm sick of Lucia's long face, pining and crying when she has a perfectly good husband in Camilo. Yeah, yeah, yeah, she doesn't love him, but she was quick to marry him to cover up her situation.

Yet, she claimed to be so "in love" with Ivan and hemmed & hawed about marrying him (BEFORE the MP custody situation.)

Had Ivan & Lucia married when he wanted them to marry they might have had a better chance against MP in family court, as Alex would have had a father AND mother in Ivan & Lucia.

So I'm really not feeling sorry for Lucia b/c for somebody who claimed to love Ivan so much IMO she never showed it. Hiding things from Ivan and lying to him.

Tony told Camilo no wonder Bruno didn't like him, Bruno knew Camilo was aiming to take Lucia away from Ivan.

Except, Camilo DIDN'T take Lucia away from Ivan. Lucia went WILLINGLY to Camilo to cover up Perla. Had Carly & Lucia never involved Camilo in the Perla situation he probably would have been content to moon after Lucia from afar.

I can understand why he's melting down. Not only would he be losing Lucia, he'd be losing Perla...a baby he's grown to love as his own child. He seems to be more attentive to Perla than Lucia, that's for sure.

Anon207- Thanks for mentioning Tony's comment about Bruno's feelings for Camilo. I forgot to add that.

There have been so many wrong decisions made by everyone, it's hard to know where to resolve this mess. I hear you about Lucia. I'm ready for her to take control of her own life and her own happiness and start making some decisions for herself.

If she just can't stand having Camilo in her bed, then divorce him already and work out a custody deal for Perla. Then get on with her life. She is approaching this situation with the same hesitation and lack of decision-making as she did when she was with Ivan and he wanted them to get married already-- everyone else be damned.

As for Camilo. I am annoyed that he thinks Lucia SHOULD love him by now. He knew the deal when he married her. He also needs to let go, now that he sees it's not working. But I do understand his fear about losing Perla. She is HIS daughter (in all the important ways) and he loves her dearly. That's the only thing he should be focused on, because he and Lucia are a lost cause. However, if Ivan wants to fight for Perla, he has every right to. Lucia didn't inform him she was pregnant, so it wasn't his choice to be out of his daughter's life.

Of course, there is the shadowy possiblity that Perla is the result of the rape (and I'm really starting to think that's the case). That would mean that neither Ivan nor Camilo would have bio rights to her, and therefor Camilo would have more rights to her as he is the registered father.

Vivi, I agree with you about the rape. They couldn't just let a detail like that drop. I think this thing is going to get a whole lot messier before Ivan and Lucía march down the aisle together. You know that Saúl will be walking before long and he's just a volcano waiting to erupt. What I want to see is Estér suing that sorry a$$ JJ for all the years of pain and suffering

Great work, Vivi.

That Carmen is possibly spending her "school" money on clothes would not surprise me. She's some piece of work and it's hard to see how Arcelia could have had three kids like hers.

David needs more time, but he will be OK in the end. Lucia's friend is a nice girl and just what he needs. At least someone can come out of the Meandragon casa and get happy despite all the poison.

Here's an explanation of the broken mirror superstition:

http://www.snopes.com/luck/superstition/breakmirror.asp

http://www.homeofbeliefs.com/break-mirrors-superstition/

I understand the symbolism of Saul looking into the shards of the mirror, but one would think that this family would have gotten rid of it by now.

If he doesn't get spotted, Benito is going to enjoy playing gumshoe in tonight's episode.

LXV, that's a beautiful painting.

Word verification: putsmo, as in we will have more putzes before this story is over.

Lucia wanted to be a single parent, but Carlota pushed and maneuvered her marriage to Camilo, even initially setting it up with Cam behind Lucia's back. In fact, if you think about it, many of the show's disasters have had Carlota behind them.

I knew they were going to use "Camilo stole Lucia from Ivan" as a point of discussion which is so ridiculous when Ivan married MP and LEFT. Did he once think there might be consequences from him and Lucia having been together? Seems not!

Lucia just sits around like a limp puppet with a long face. given how uninterested she is in her life and baby, I'm thinking it's not Ivan's either. But I still cringe at that plot development - that was so gross! What, so Saul is finally going to find out about Lucia's baby and come riding in to make some claim? Jeez! That is just so disgusting to contemplate!

LXV, extraordinary safflower painting! Wow! And I love botanical art.

Audrey

Lucia is 25, 26 years old. Carlota didn't force her marry Camilo. In fact, Carlota wanted her to up and marry Ivan when he wanted them to marry. Lucia is just as weak and cowardly as Gerardo.

Speaking of him, Lucia could have told Gerardo & Carolina about her being pregnant by Ivan and she could have convinced Gerry to move back to Mexico so she could have the baby. There was nothing left for Lucia or Gerardo in Alamos anyway; Alex was gone, Ivan was gone. Lucia could have had the baby as a single mother in Mexico and nobody there would have cared, plus with Gerardo (and maybe Carolina) there she would have had some family support/

But no, now it's time to trash Camilo to justify Lucia & Ivan getting back together. Blech.

Great recap and discussion, with sunflowers (info and beautiful painting) to boot!

Just couldn't agree more about Carlota and Tony. I enjoyed them at first -- enough already now! Can't wait for things generally to pick up and roll to the end.

LXV -- also in NJ and wishing that I could look out my window and see a field of sunflowers as lovely as your painting.

Vivi in DC as always thanks for your recap and the reference on Safflower; indeed, we learn something every day.

LXV & Traveling Lady a big shout out to you ladies; I always feel giddy when I meet someone from my backyard on the net; what part of NJ are you? I’m on the northern part which borders Rockland county NY. And LXV, thanks for sharing this gorgeous wonder; you mentioned a painting? Love to see the actual flower.

Audrey, agree with you on the “stolen Lucia away” line; but I think Tony said it more out of annoyance than anything else; he immediately apologized to Camilo. However, it’s fact that Bruno has no trust for Camilo; simply because he was never a loyal friend who had betrayed Ivan more than once. I have no problems with him being in love and marrying Lucia; but I do feel uneasy with ALL of them omitting it to Ivan. If they didn’t feel guilty by what they were doing; they should all have a clear conscience and be open about their actions.

It also annoys me that both Lucia and Carly always proclaimed that they didn’t care what people thought of them but their actions about protecting the family and everyone else be damned paint a different picture. I don’t know if someone else has the same reaction as me when Cleto announced the arrival of Tony; Carly appeared clearly more annoyed than concerned to the point Cleto offered to shoe him off the property. She recovered right away and even faked being civil but I didn’t like how she reacted considering both Tony and Ivan have been more than generous to them.

Anon207, I hear and feel the same about Lucia; to me she’s a wet blanket with no passion; hopefully, once Ivan returns we can see some sparks (long shot!). I would however, agree with your assessment of the current situation with Camilo--being sacrificed in order for Ivan and Lucia to be reunited—if all of sudden they’re turning him into this controlling; jealous person. Not the case; they have been slowly establishing him as someone who envies his best friend for both his financial and amorous success. His current smoldering, possessiveness and his bouts of jealousy are just a continuation of his flawed character. I personally think that his character is by far the better written in this TN.

I want to care about Saul’s current situations, but I can’t muster one iota feelings. ???

Antolin continues to be the only ray of sunshine in this TN; I still love Ivan; but I want him far away from both Lucia and Maripaz (which I’ll never get—poor me!) and raising his child(ren).

Myo-

Myo - what bugs me, is that I see this as the writers setting us up to have this illogical statement repeated over and over again. That is so annoying, but I see the writers trying to establish it as a big deal and a way for Ivan to return in a betrayed rage, when it is so stupid!!!

Maybe just being in love with your friend's or sibling's wife/girlfriend is considered a big crime in Mexico. I get that feeling sometimes. And if you act on the attraction when they become available, then it's a big crime because you were attracted when you shouldn't have been. Is that it?

Camilo, of course, has been set up since day one. This TN is as much about his destruction as it is about wimpy, cowardly Lucia and anger-management-challenged, poor-judgement Ivan somehow miraculously getting together in the end despite all the odds! I couldn't care about them at all. Now, why was I watching? Probably just because MP was hardly on and no perverted ogling from JJ, LOL!

Audrey

Thanks, Vivi. Great recap, plus a bonus botanical lesson! Awesome.

Lucia has had NO character growth in this entire show. She is still as passive as ever. I wonder whether we will see her take charge of her own life by the end.

I kind of feel bad for Camilo, but what did he expect? He thought Lucia would fall madly in love with him by now? Meanwhile, she's just had a baby, she's taking care of a newborn, she's trying to write her thesis, AND Camilo is being jealous and annoying and pushy. Even if she were otherwise inclined to fall in love with him, I think she'd be too tired and irritated right now to feel very amorous.

If Camilo can find a way to grow the safflower on a large scale and can make it more resistant to disease, he could make himself and the Curiels VERY rich. A crop that grows in very few place in the world, and can be used to make insulin, in a world with a growing diabetes problem, is like striking oil or gold. He should concentrate on that and his daughter and just forget the other crap.

Myo - ITA I don't care about Saul and if he is indeed the rapist...it's too awful to contemplate though we know an anvil along these lines is coming.

Audrey - ITA, the Cam stole Lucia plot is stupid but so was the MP forcing Ivan to marry her, yet here we are.

I do think Lucia is in some sort of emotional stupor or depressed. She seems to have no joy; she does everything rather mechanically (and I'm not faulting the actress here).

Vivi - ITA w/your assessment of Lucia (see above) and Cam. I was annoyed when he said its been three months and she still doesn't love me. Seriously. What leads you to speculate Perla is not Ivan's

Anon207 - it would be great if Cam would dump Lucia. As you said Judith would take him in a heart beat. But the writers have set up a scenario in which we are to believe Cam marrying Lucia is further evidence of his jealousy of Ivan.

Karen- I only suspect the baby may be a product of the rape, because there is really no other reason for the rape. Plus everyone keeps speculating about Perla's bio-daddy and assuming it's Ivan's. They also seem to be setting up a battle between Ivan and Camilo, not only over Lucia, but Perla too. It would be the shocker of all shockers if a DNA test proves Perla is not Ivan's. Carly would be forced to finally come clean about what happened to Lucia and what she knows. It still REALLY bugs me that she never told Lucia and let her decide how to proceed. Lucia should have been taken to a doctor immediately for a blood test (to see if she had been drugged) and to see if any evidence of sexual activity had taken place. Plus there was the added possibility of pregnancy and disease to be aware of. Craly chose to shut her eyes and pretend that nothing happened. I think this will be the way she will pay for all the times her inaction has lead to grave consequences. I don't think she would ever forgive herself for this one.

Vivi- Thanks for the info on what they were growing. I didn't have the computer on last night to check and forgot to write it down. Wonder if they are trying to push this crop in the area and that's why it gets special mention. It makes a pretty good oil for dry skin, lightly applied, like olive oil but you don't smell like salad.

I think it's time for Carlota to come clean about the rape. We only have 31 more episodes and the following things need to be resolved before the FPS (felices para siempre) for Ivan and Lucia:

David needs to be cured of his problem and also become head of the Mondragon family.

Ivan needs to find out about MP's adultery and take action.

Judith needs to achieve her independence and find romance.

Gerardo needs to find romance, maybe with a newly divorce Esther (although I think she's too much of a snob).

Benito needs to move his family near to him.

Antolin, Saul, El Gordo, JJ, Carmen, Lucrezia, and Maripaz need to pay for their sins.

Tony and Carlota need to resolve their issues.

Tony needs to find a girlfriend for Bruno.

I don't think Perla is the product of the rape; that is against TN law at this stage of the story. But the speculation will make for several major confrontations before the end.

I'm beginning to think the supposed rape is just a ploy in case they wanted to take this somewhere else & changed their minds. Saul is enough of a scumbag w/o that. Gordo eying Judith is enough to make your skin crawl.

We do need a love for Gerado, but I don't see Ester in that role, maybe it is Carolina after Antolín is punished, noooooo.

Word verify pinges, we have a few of those.

I'd like to believe that Saul was too drunk to actually complete the act. But he thinks perversely enough to want to set Lucia up to believe she was raped even if it didn't actually happen.

Thanks for all the nice words about my painting. I love it too and I apologize fore the shameless self-promotion, but I just wanted to share. It's not for nothing that I live in the "Garden State". We can grow almost anything, if only for a season. Myo, I live in Jersey City, a stone's throw away from the Gran Manzana. I'm guessing you must live up Rt. 17 or the Palisades.

I agree with everybody that these protagonistas have been awfully lukewarm. Not sure I would want to watch David Z. again in a leading role. He's just kind of "meh" and poor Sandra E., an absolutely beautiful girl, but no heat, no passion. And between them both, no chemistry.

Maybe DZ should go back to being a bad guy, I thought he was good in Sortilegio & STuD. It is probably just a matter of direction though.
DZ is going to be in a novela with Angelica Boyer, I'm not impressed with her.
Sandra is ONLY pretty & no acting ability, a shame.

Vivi - Clifton area, also very new NYC. Just read that NJ is the most densely populated state in the union -- makes sense with three of us here watching and commenting on LFDD!

Vivi, great recap. Good writing, as usual, thanks!
Fantastically lovely painting LXV.
OK, does anyone remember Lucia's friend was with her at that bar/club and gave a signal to someone just before she drank that drink...? Isn't she the one who set Lucia up to be raped?

Emarie- No way. Lucia's friend did not set Lucia up to be raped. Some guy asked her to dance and she went. Then when she came back to the table and found Lucia missing, she just thougth Lucia had gotten bored and gone home, which was the reason Lucia insisted on them driving separate cars. The person you saw signaling to the waiter to put the ruphi in the drink was a man's hands, and then we saw the man's feet. Lucia's friend was cluelessly dancing away on the dance floor.

Thanks, Vivi. Have been tied up for days and days. I appreciated the last two paragraphs since the dvr cut off the last few minutes. BUMMER!

Thanks Vivi, thats a relief! I should have noticed those were guy hands and not girls hands.
