Una Familia Con Suerte #28 Mon 11/14/11 In which Pancho asks El Jeque to sell him a wife.

Candy is on Pina's radio show to talk about the Catgirl escandalazo! Pina sez, "She's such a fogosa (sparky gal) and we are great friends." Candy and Pina work up a great head of steam dissing disloyal husbands: "The man who took off your mask is a bad man!" "He wants to be treated like a king, men like him treat women like rags, humiliate us, ignore us."

Suddenly Pancho shows up: "This program is cancelled forever! Your husband has been charging it to Avon." Pina: "It was ok with Fers." "Do you see 'FERS' here? No! And even Adoracion is being paid by Avon. Even your dog's expenses! The Titanic is going down! It's over!"

Candy is mad: her chance to express herself on the air and be a celebrity is being stifled by her own brother! She and Pina yell that he doesn't love her. Candy: "That's it, I'm going to Arabia!"

Pepe gets Ana to record and burn a cd of a love song for Monica. He sneaks into Monica's office and leaves the cd with a love letter written in crayon: "For my siren, from your king! I love you and will wait as long as I have to." Freddy comes in, reads the letter, and steals it.

Arnold tells Vince "I'm a feminist, I hate men who treat women badly." Pina arrives crying: "He killed my program!" Arnold gives her those strange Bach drops. Vince tells her to go cry someplace else, he has to prepare for his meeting with the Arabs. They leave, Pina wailing: "Arnold, my show is all I have. My baby, Freddy, doesn't pay any attention to me, my husband doesn't give a damn. I have nothing."

Vince yells at the jeque's people. Interpreter: "He just wants to talk with Candy and see if she can be bought or acquired. She is central in this negotiation." Rebe: "Tell him it's absurd." Vince: "Tell him she's cold as the Arctic!" Interpreter: "He says he can warm her up." Jeque: licks his lips, eew.

Pancho arrives. "Tell him we don't sell women, they're not pillows or camels or merchandise." Undeterred, el jeque offers 1.5 million dollars per woman. Candy, arriving and hearing this, faints. Rebe goes for alcohol and meets up with Chela in the hall. Chela says "We're Pancho's women." Rebe thinks that sounds like a harem.

Booze fumes revive Candy, who's delighted that both the jeque and Vince are crazy for her! "Chela, see how important we are? Who else has ever offered so much for us?"

Lupita turns down Alex again but all the kids swarm up and hug him. He offers Lupita a huge house he inherited from his granny for a more deluxe kids' joint. Tomas shows up and hugs Lupa, they've reconciled despite his awful hair.

Pancho: "Let's go on with the meeting. Ali Baba, here in Mexico, our society is based on family. Even if we're poor or lose at football, our families support us. Not God or Allah or Methuselah can separate us. You have a mountain of wives?" Yes, he has (counting) 17. "OK, sell one to me!"

Pancho sends everybody else out of the room. Chela says she's honored by the offer but can't accept, because the children need her... She is so convincing el jeque gets sentimental about his own 43 children and embraces Pancho, sobbing... He'll sign the contract with no further conditions. Pancho and el jeque are best buds!

Pepe asks Monica if she liked the present he left. She didn't get it. Later Freddy pulls out the wrinkled paper he stole from Monica's desk and reads it to her. "Is this naco bothering you? I can sic the police on him..." "No, I can handle him..."

Ana puts on makeup, imagining Freddy's preferences. Then the imaginary Freddy laughs at her. "I am darkness and he is the light!" she dramatically declares. "Nobody likes me the way I am," she complains to her spectral mother. "Very soon you'll have a love that will make you happy, but sometimes we suffer," her mother counsels.

Tomorrow: Pancho catches a pants-challenged Vince embracing Candela in his office!

Terrific recap Melinama. My favorite line of the recap: "they've reconciled despite his awful hair". No kidding, Tomas has a dreadful do. That would be a deal breaker for me. Oh, and what about those stupid sunglasses? Seriously NOT a chick magnet. Lupita where is your head? Starting with his hair everything about that guy is a mistake.

I SO enjoy Vince's anger at El Jeque's offers for Candy. Speaking of El Jeque, the poor guy looked like he was about to explode into laughter in his scenes with Pancho. I'd love to see the outtakes for this show.

I was curious about those funny "curative" drops so I finally got around to looking them up. Strange Bach drops is right. They are an actual product!

Thanks Melinama. I'm glad you can't help yourself and are still doing recaps. They are much appreciated.

Melinama- I really enjoyed this recap. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us some details. Love that Pancho and Chela's impassioned speeches about family won the jeque over.

When did Lupita get back together with horrid Tomas?! Is this girl blind? She was looking at Tomas and Alex side by side practically, and she STILL chose Tomas! Actually, both of Pancho's daughters have horrible taste in men. Ana is pining for Freddy. Yuck! At least fantasy Freddy is as big of a jerk as real Freddy. But it makes me wonder even more what Ana sees in him.

Tomas is gross. I can't believe Lupita took him back. Those sunglasses look like something you'd find in a cereal box.

Comcast inserted another ad right in the middle of Chela's arrival so I missed her greeting to Rebe and most of the scene with Alex. Thanks, Comcast! (And thanks Melinama for covering it!)

So Pina's show doesn't even make money... it's funded by Avon... if it's so popular she should be able to get someone to pick it up and syndicate it for real money.

Regarding the Flores de Bach, I couldn't figure out whether that was a generic name for herbal tinctures or if it was a brand name. If they're a brand name then the company can't be happy with their portrayal... Pina's the most screwed-up character, she takes a bottle's worth at a time and says they don't work but she keeps using them anyway!

Vivi, all I can figure is that Ana is attracted to badasses and she thinks Freddy is badass. She doesn't know him well enough yet to realize that he's just a plain ass.

Maybe Elena will soften Freddy up for her. Better yet, maybe Elena will soften him up for herself and then Ana will find herself a better badass.

As for Tomas, who cares. I hope Pina uses him up and throws him away and even Betty won't take him!

Julie, if you do a search on "bach flower remedies" you will find their website; there is also a wikipedia entry on the subject. AND, there are also Bach Flower Remedies for pets! I once knew a guy (who owned a successful chain of brewpubs) who said there is no such thing as bad publicity. I wonder if Bach Flower Remedies would agree with him?

I am really starting to feel sorry for Pina. She really has nothing else to do but that radio show. I love how Arnold consoled Pina. He cares more about her than Vince.

Gracias Melinama,

El jeque is so funny, 17 wives & 43 children. His Arabic sounds like English to me with a Spanish accent.

Lupita must visualize Tomas cleaned up, hard to believe but the actor is very good looking.

Variopinta

Like Sylvia, loved the "despite his awful hair". I just shut my eyes when he's on the screen.

Missed this last night but your description of the previews..."a pants-challenged Vince" will certainly have me glued to the screen tonight!

Thanks Melinama. Always witty, always memorable.

Thanks for the recap! So funny and succinct!

I especially liked "they've reconciled despite his awful hair." Ugh, what does she see in him?! She must have seen him as Juan Vicente in Niña de Mi Corazón so she knows how swoon-worthy he can be with a better coiffure and personality ;). Alex is so much better, though. Think, Lupita!

Pina really cracks me up.

Funny moment from last night, when Chela sat down at the board room table and the jeque kept slyly touching her shoulder, and she had to keep slapping his fingers away like annoying flies.

Great recap. Thanks for the vocab as I was wondering what Candela had to do with a bonfire. Enjoyed the comments. Tomas has a ripped body - that's all I see in him, but Lupita isn't interested in that. Maybe she's just afraid to let go of her childhood since she and Tomas have been together since kids.

I think Lupita is holding on to Tomas just because he's familiar and lower class. For one thing, her family has had a lot of big lifestyle changes, and it may be too much, too fast for her. So she wants to keep teaching in the old hood and associate with the people she's known forever just for the comfortable familiarity. But also, she might be worried that her old neighbors will think she's become a snob if she not only moves into a big fancy house and goes to a fancy school, but also ditches her old novio for a new rich guy, even if they like said rich guy.

Of course, I think she should hang on to the old friends but ditch the cheating loser. Why does he want her, anyway? Just for the challenge?

Monica should have thoroughly reamed Freddy. How dare he take things off her desk and read notes left for her, then confront her as though she's the one who did something wrong? She should break up with him just for that; it portends a nasty controlling relationship.
