La Fuerza del Destino #87 Tue 12/06/11 After Years of Bringing Her Flowers, Antolín De-Flowers Carolina

As Gloria hasn’t had the chance to check in with us yet, I thought we should put up a discussion page before the end of the day. You can tell from my title what MY favorite part of last night’s episode was. :)

Here is the quick bullet points version of what went down:
-JJ has decided that Ivan is his prodigal son and demands that he come visit him. He couldn’t care less about Saul. He tolerates Judith and David. No one wants to break it to him that Ivan is his bastard son who hates him.
-Tony and David try to convince Ivan to have some pity and kindness in his heart for JJ and play along. Tony wants him to forgive, and tells the story of how he long ago forgave his wife who had cheated on him. Ivan can’t forget how JJ abused his mother and treated him as a child.
-Camilo starts getting too big for his britches already and gets a swelled head about getting to rub elbows with important government people. He drinks too much, to Antolin’s dismay, and babbles about beating Ivan now that he’ll have more power than him.
-Camilo gives Antolin management of his ranch so that he can dedicate himself full-time to the presidency.
-MP finds a man she CAN refuse and says no to Saul’s advances. She thinks about REAL man Camilo and is more turned on to learn he’s the new Ag Assoc prez.
-Ivan, Lucia and Carly go to see Lic. Zavaleta about Lucia’s divorce. They tell him Ivan is Perlita’s dad, and about Cam’s jealousy and unreasonableness, but don’t tell him about Camilo’s infidelity. Later, Carly says she is willing to testify about the infidelity if needed. Lucrezia opposes this, because of the scandal…naturally. Lucia finally asks her mother why her happiness is less important than MP? We’ve all wondered that too Lucia.
-Camilo yells at Zavaleta, who is the best lawyer in Alamos, that he will get the best lawyer in the next largest town. He refuses to give Lucia her divorce. He threatens Ivan that he will fight for custody of Perla. The DNA test doesn’t scare him because he doesn’t think the judge would look kindly on a guy who abandoned two pregnant women to run off to the States.
-Ivan and Lucia get frisky, despite Carly and the lawyer telling them to keep their distance—meaning NO SEX. For now, they stay strong.
-Antolin and Carolina, on the other hand…Anto doesn’t want Caro sleeping alone in the house at night. Either Rosa starts staying with her at nights, or he’s moving in. Guess what she chooses. He takes her to dinner at a nice restaurant and takes her shopping. Once they get home, the flirting and kissing begin, and they go to the kitchen to make dinner #2 together, since he’s a man with “ferocious appetites.” His words, not mine. He asks which bedroom should he take—Gerry’s, Alex’s, or hers? Any but hers, she says. But later that night, she can’t sleep. Anto can’t sleep either, and he comes knocking on her door asking to just share her bed with her. They try the back to back thing, but sleep is still not what either of them was wanting. Anto makes the first move, turns towards Caro and starts caressing her waist gently. He also starts nuzzling her neck, which leads to passionate kisses. Caro goes with it. (Yeah, I re-watched the scene a few times.)
-The next morning, Caro’s already up and bringing coffee and juice to the bedroom for them. Anto starts to apologize for pushing things the night before, but Caro does not want apologies. She’s very happy, and they express their love for each other. But Caro thinks they need to get married, like now.
-Caro and Celia meet for the first time since Caro regained sight. It’s a tearful, happy meeting. Celia is beside herself with happiness that the two will get married soon and offers to help Caro with all the preparations.
-Since she has power of attorney over JJ’s accounts, Esther decides to pay for Saul’s surgery. He’s over the moon. Wish I liked him so that I could actually be happy for him.

Avances: It’s Gerry Springer, Alamos style! The DNA test results are in, and…Camilo’s not the daddy (we already knew that), BUT neither is Ivan! (Some of us already suspected that.)

Thanks Vivi! You are so thoughtful.

I just hate, hate, hate where they are going with the DNA thing! It just burns me up, it's so disgusting.

I think this TN should have be named Los Pecados de Carlota (The Sins of Carlota).

Audrey

Absolutely, Audrey. Carlota has enabled almost every bad thing that has happened in this show. Not telling Lucia about the possible rape (that, judging by the previews, seems almost certainly to have been an actual rape) is right up there on her list of sins. Aside from the baby, Lucia could have been exposed to diseases, and now she could have passed those on to Ivan and Camilo. Carlota should have taken her straight to the hospital for a checkup and whatnot.

Not that Camilo will have time to experience any STDs; his head is going to swell so big it will explode any day now. I loved Antolin's reactions to his drunkenness.

For a split second I was offended by Antolin's saying that Carolina needed a man such as himself in the house to protect her, but then I remembered that MariPaz is after her. She definitely needs Antolin there. I did find the circular reasoning amusing: "Let's get married, Caro!" "We can't get married so soon; Gerry just barely died!" "Well, with Gerry gone you're alone now, unprotected! I'll move in!" "But we aren't married!"

Julia- I felt the same at first too. Like why does she need a man in the house?! But he did also suggest Rosa, so he was more worried about her being alone at nights. I didn't think about MP, but I did think about Gordo, who is still on the loose and out to get Anto. Caro, alone in a house at night, would be an easy target. I am now glad that he's in the house. And of course, there are other benefits... But if they don't want Caro at the altar with a huge baby bump, then they do need to get married soon.

I have been livid about Carly hiding the possible, now certain, rape from Lucia from day one.

Thanks for putting up this page Vivi and your title summed up the less depressing aspects of this TN.

Well now that it seems your foreboding is correct, I am very s/mad at this horrible situation. Why do TNs throw in rape to an already challenging narrative (I know there are worse ones out there).

Yes, Audrey your new title would be extremely appropriate. And now I hope we don't have to live through ugly accusations and Carly remembers. As Julia mentioned, who knows what else Lucia could have been exposed to from sicky Saul.

Caro and Antolin and Arcelia were so deliriously happy it felt like anvil-baiting. I hope this is baseless! They have to end up alive and blissful!

I'm not watching this one but I HAD to drop in to say the title has me laughing out loud. Literally. Apparently I just scared the heck out of my poor honey who is home sick from work.

LOL Sylvia! Glad the title brought you a laugh. :)

Hola all......... i have not been in tune to commenting sine i have been going to school evenings and am barely keeping up with this novela.....I wanted to tell all Fernando Colunga Fans that he is in a play at Los Pinos Teatro in Southgate California....and i will be going to see it this sunday..... Tks mucho Vivi for subbing.

Who would have thought that just because Antolín & Carolina were in the same bed, they would congress!!!!!!?????

Yuck, slime ball Sául is the father.

Variopinta

Thanks Vivi for your recap.
Loved the love scene with Anto and Caro. It had to be one of the most really sensual that I have seen on a Televela; much better than Ivan and Lucia on the beach.
It didn't seem unreasonable in that context that Caro shouldn't be at home alone at night.
Now MP alone at night, that's OK.

I am really peeved at this DNA situation. Lucia should be very angry with Carlota for not alerting her to the rape. Obviously this will create issues with the divorce.

Oy vey, Maria.

Ay I don't think I'm going to watch tonight it just seems so messed up. Ugh!

I agree, Emarie. Great scene. It was nice because it was simple, not theatrical, and you could believe they really just wanted to be together and were actually attracted to each other, whereas Ivan always looks like he's trying too hard and Lucia always looks bored.

Thanks, Vivi.

I absolutely agree about scene between Carolina and Antolin.

Ivan is learning a lot about forgiveness. He still has a ways to go, but is getting there. The information about Tony's wife was interesting.

The situation is so absurd and the product of bad writing and a lack of imagination. I'm too close to the end to throw in the towel. I'll be there until the end, hoping that the good folks get some measure of happiness.

What has Carlota hidden? Let's count:

She hid Lucrecia's true paternity from her.

She hid the fact that Alicia was the true daughter of Teodoro and the rightful 3rd heir.

She & Lucrecia hid the fact that the 3rd heir had come back, to get a loan on El Sucker Ranch. (<--CRIME)

She and Lucrecia conspired to hide Maripaz's pregnancy (causing Lucia to lose a year of school. Too bad for you, Lucia)*

She & Lucrezia hid Alex's kidnapping from the authorities so they could keep hiding Alex's existence (<----CRIME)

She hid the existence of Alex from Ivan.

She hid Maripaz killing the lady on the road (<----CRIME)

She hid their blackmail troubles from Tony.

She hid Maripaz stealing the pearls and pawning them.

She hid Lucia's rape from her.

She urged Lucia to hide her pregnancy by marrying Camilo.

She and the El Sucker crew hid Lucia's pregnancy & marriage from Ivan & Tony.

Now she's going to hide Maripaz/Camilo for Lucrecia's sake?

Carlota CLAIMS she doesn't care what the town thinks but her actions say very much the opposite.

*Why exactly did LUCIA have to go with Carlota, Lucrecia & Maripaz? Maripaz had gone off to the States when she was 13 anyway, while Lucia stayed behind. Lucrezia & Gerry were divorced. Lucia could have stayed behind with Gerry and a story could have been invented that Lucrecia & Carlota took Maripaz back to the United States.

Great list Anon207. Carly's lies, obfuscations and protecting Lucrezia and MP have caused a LOT of problems, most of all for Lucia (who she should be protecting most of all) and Ivan.

Total agreement about the Caro-Anto love scene. It was sensuous and real. Hard to believe it's the same writers and directors who worked on those crazy fantasy love scenes with Ivan and Lucia. Even without the chemistry of Anto-Caro, the Ivan-Lucia love scenes would work better with this kind of simple set up.

Carlota didn't hide these things because of public opinion; she did this in the name of family harmony (i.e., to avoid fighting with Lucrazia). Not that this is a valid reason, because this family is in need of major therapy.

Gerry wasn't in Alamos for most of the year they were all away, not to mention that it would have changed the plot for Lucia to have been with him because she would have known about Alex.
