Cuando Me Enamoro #161 Tuesday 12/6/11 In Which We Examine Love In Its Many Telenovela Guises, Complete With Subjective Anvil Scores*

RECAP BY ELNA JUNE

*Anvil scores are non-rigorous, non-scientifically derived, utterly subjective prognostications predicting the likelihood that a couple will be together or an individual character will be alive at the end of the CME Ultimo Capitulo.
0= “No likelihood of survival for the couple or individual” and 5= “Will absolutely make it”.

Tonight’s episode is not so much about plot as it is about atmosphere. Here we have an opportunity to slow down and examine the experiences of our characters.
Key points reprised from last night:

• Augustin and Anibal continue to cohabit, at Augie’s convenience and under Anibal’s rules;
• Fina, Blanca and Roberta watch Dr. Deadmorals osculate a check
• Roberta and Germy have already made use of the love nest and Roberta wants MORE
• Jero gives Renata the ultimate proposal of marriage at night, with fireworks, wine and grape stomping fun
• Jero and Nata are getting married again, on Viernes.

Ensenada

Anibal and Alison are holding and getting to know their respective pillows. Actually each is imagining their pillow as the other, and they talk, kiss converse and remember with the almohadas. Music plays, “Alguien, que me tome como soy”. The kids are adorable. This is young love, as sweet as it gets.

Anvil Score (couple)= 4. I’ll give Anibal and Alison an 80% likelihood of being together at the end of the show. For life, not so likely.

At La Bonita Renata and Jero are rolling around in bed, literally. They giggle and flirt as Renata drinks the glass of water that she sent Jero to fetch for her in yesterday’s episode. Really, she just wanted the scoop on Matilde and Carlos’ big blowup. They talk about “horrible” jealousy and “more painful” lies with their bad consequences and start down the slippery conversational slope of their own previous jealousies. Luckily, we are only treated to a quick refrito of those past destructive moments (Jero’s jealousy at Renata being sent to Augustin’s by her father and for her own protection and Renata’s jealousy when she sees Jero kiss Marina). Quickly Jero and Renata agree to cease and desist that topic of conversation and go back to loving embraces.

Anvil Score (Jero and Renata) = 5. These two are bound to be together happily ever after.

DF
In the maid’s bedroom, Coni is with Amparito. Alas, the bebe is crying.

Ines and her husband talk over Constanza’s insane (but understandable) behavior with Corina and Trojan Baby Amparo. Husband, always the lawyer, reminds Ines that she is just a volunteer at El Centro Esperanza but Constanza is now the sister-in-law of Regina, the founder and director. It is a delicate situation, he says.

Anvil Score (couple)= 5. They are a great example of mature married love in the TN.

Next morning, DF

Julieta, Adri y Matias are having breakfast and conversation regarding the proposal that she run Chema’s restaurant. Julieta has talked with her father and sister and they will visit with Chema’s dad about their decision. Julieta then drops the bomb that she saw Roberta entering an apartment in her building at night. “Ay,” says Adri rolling her eyes to heaven, “Do not do this”.

Anvil Score (couple) =5. I think Adri and Matias will be a couple at the end of the show. Renata’s best friend, her “cousin” in a relationship with her stepbrother, all good, if a little incestuous.
Anvil Score (Julieta)=4. Julieta should make it to the end.

DF and Ensenada
Meanwhile, back at Palacio Gonzolo, Roberta embraces Gonzolo and Regina and welcomes them home from their honeymoon. Roberta says everything is going great at Empresa, she’s learning, etc. Liar, liar pants on fire, Roberta. Just then Renata calls on the phone and invites them all to come to Ensenada for the upcoming Friday wedding. At La Bonita Jero is horsing around and tickling Renata like a teenager. Renata is ecstatic on the phone—this time they are getting married without deceptions, without lies and with sincerity. Jero continues to tease Renata and call out to Gonzolo over the phone, “Father-in-law. My dear father-in-law!” Another cute scene. Jero stands on the edge of the sofa and pretends to fall on Renata, who is convulsed with giggles. These actors are having a lot of fun with the end of this TN. Back in the Palace, at hearing her sister’s good news Roberta grimaces like a cat with a fish bone caught in its throat.

Anvil Score (Gonzo and Gina)=5. These two need to be around to help with the grandchildren, no? David in IN?

Anvil Score (Roberta)=1. I think Roberta is too far gone to be redeemed, even in TN land. There is a slight possibility that she might donate an organ and save her sister but…nah, I don’t think so.

Anvil Score (the wedding happening on Viernes) =0. Between Augustin, Fina, Roberta and Marina I give his wedding NO CHANCE of coming off without a hitch. Anyway, Renata and Jero are still married in the Church, so who cares?

More musical montage with Alison and Anibal flirting and kissing, running through the winter spare vines, splashing one another in a pool, sliding on a children’s slide and playing in the wine crushing vats. More young love.

Elsewhere at La Bonita, Carlos is hobbling along chasing Herminia and Matilde. He calls after Matilde not to be infantile. But she won’t talk to Carlos and triangulates through Herminia to tell “this gentleman” that she does not desire to speak with him. The subject of Prescila is broached and Carlos tells Matilde that Prescila only WORKS at La Bonita. Matilde flounces away leaving a clearly frustrated Carlos in her dust.

In her bedroom with the acid green walls, Roberta calls Auggie to tell him about the impending nuptials. Next FRIDAY. Predictably, Augustin blows a gasket. After hanging up the phone he brushes rudely past Anibal who just happens to be at the door of his study. He jumps to the conclusion that Anibal was eavesdropping. Anibal says no, and Augie tells him he has to go to town.

Anvil Score (Augustin)= 0. He is multiple murderer and he gloated about Zeke. Furthermore, I hate his taste in coats. He dies, badly.

Inside La Bonita Renata snags Matilde and pulls her aside for a cozy little chat. Renata heard the fight between she and Carlos, heard the shouts. Matilde tells Renata that Carlos lied to her about Prissbutt. “I understand perfectly,” says our empathic Renata, but you are no saint yourself, Mati. Don’t permit this situation to ruin your relationship. It’s foolish. (Go, Renata!) Renata starts in on a lecture about the perils of jealousy. She points out that…Finally she reminds Matilde of the far reaching effects of jealousy. It has had consequences for Renata. How? Asks Matilde. Renata draws a deep breath and says “Because of jealousy and because of not speaking, Jero began his relationship with Marina. And now the consequences (call them twins) are irreparable. Think about it! She warns Matilde. This may be my favorite scene in the TN.

In the next room Carlos has come back in the house after chasing Matilde. He is raving at Jero about Matilde. Matilde has given Carlos an ultimatum—it’s her or the heifer. Jero asks if Prissybutt is important to Carlos. Carlos, in what I think is a somewhat evasive answer says “Si!” and holds up his bandaged hands. He remarks that he can’t do his job without her. (Really? I doubt that MiCharlie).

Jero tells Carlos he had better figure something out and he has to do it on his own.

Anvil Score (couple)=4. I am optimistic about Mati and Carlos. If, as they say, men marry their mothers then Carlos had found someone in Matilde to equal his controlling and histrionic mother. Prissybutt hasn’t got a chance again THE HEADBAND.

Anvil Score (Prissybutt)=2.5. Likely alive but out of the picture.

DF
Gonzolo returns to Empresa and falls into the welcoming arms of Matias, Honorio and Adri. Hons says he looks great, totally healed. Gonzo says it is all because of LOVE. Love heals, blah, blah, blah. The group discusses the news about Renata and Jero. They have had their problems and setbacks, but they are having a wedding next Friday. Everyone needs to be there. Hugs all around. The smarm meter is starting to overheat as we change scenes into Regi/Gonzo’s house of the stone balls, where Ines is hugging Gina and welcoming her back from her honeymoon. Her only disappointment is that her Mother wasn’t there to enjoy this moment. (More of Fina’s dastardly deeds). Ines hates to tell Regina but there are problems with Constanza. Don’t tell me it has something to do Corina and that bebe! says a furious Regina.

Cut to Honorio calling Cons. She is all dressed up (as usual) with her pretty feet in high platform shoes stretched out on the twin bed in the guestroom, holding said bebe. Hons tells her that Renata and Jero are having (yet another) wedding in Ensenada next Friday and Gonzo want the whole family to attend. She should get her clothes and things ready to go. Coni equivocates, she is very happy for Renata but doesn’t know if she can go to the wedding. Honorio really loses it now. “Constanza are you listening to me”, he yells. Yes, she is listening but what is she supposed to do with Amparita? Hons hits the roof. You mean you are not going to Renata’s wedding because of this creature”? “I don’t know”…Coni starts again. Honorio is beside himself,” This is not your responsibility! Where is her Mother? Call that woman right away and tell her to come and get the baby!” Again, Coni hesitates… but Hons tell her that her priorities are all wrong. If she prefers to take care of the baby—who is not hers! —Over going to the wedding of her niece, it is her problem not his. He slams down the phone.

Anvil Score (couple)= 4. I think Honorio and Coni will work it out. They may have to adopt a child but…

Cut back to Gonzo/Gina manse. I cannot believe it, Gina rants to Ines and she pours her a cup of coffee. She explained everything to Coni. This is not how they do business in the Center. Ines gently reminds Gina that Coni is now her sister-in-law and this complicates things a bit Gina is going to talk to Constanza.

Another photo and music montage. This time it is sweet moments Laz and Kari’s DF honeymoon. For my money, they are the cutest couple on four feet. The city is huge they have discovered. Their four feet are sore from all the walking. They canoodle on a park bench while taking a much-needed break from sightseeing. More music. More love.

Anvil Score (couple)=5. These two have been through too much not to make it. Nesme is still out there like a black cloud on the horizon but Super Laz will prevail!

Jail
Meanwhile, a guy who looks like a really mean Mexican Jesus is giving Nesme a (well-earned) hard time. Nesme is at the jail bars looking threatening and miserable when bad-Jesus winds him up. “It’s visiting day, and no one came to see you and I. You are alone like a dog”. I take exception to Bad-Jesus’ simile comparing Dr-I-only-die-my-hair-on-top (thank you r la O) to un perro. No dog deserves such a comparison! Nesme bends his nose against the jail bar to express his despair. “Kari. You will always be mine”. Maybe not, Alvaro.

Anvil Score (Nesme)=0. Nesme has to go. There is no redemption for this dirtbag.

Ensenada

Jero and Renata sit on bench outside Padre Severino’s house waiting for Antonio. Renata is nattering, shall she dress in normal or wedding attire? Marina comes to the door and hears Renata y Jero discussing the wedding, flirting, and declaring their endless love for one another. Marina is stricken and grabs her non-existing bump as outside Renata laughs. Antonio arrives and Renata goes to help him with the children’s fingerprint project.

Anvil Score (Marina)=1. I hope I am wrong, but this weekend’s musings on the CME board convinced me that Marina may be a goner.

Anvil Score (Antonio)=2.5. Antonio could be collateral damage in another wedding shoot out. I only give him a 50/50 chance of making it to the finale.

At La Cruz Saul defends his poor performance with Marina to Augustin. Saul protests that he has only seen her three times. “This is your last opportunity”, Augie snarls to him as he hands him more money.

Anvil Score (Saul)=2. If Saul irritates Augustin he might just go the way of previous Dunant henchmen. Bye bye, Saul.

Prescila and Carlos are working. Prissybutt pretends to be concerned about Carlos and offers to talk to Matilde. Trust in me, Charlie.

Marina sees Antonio. Marina is seriously depressed. (What is new?) Antonio goes to the cafeteria to join Renata for the fingerprint project. He gets a full set of fingerprints from her as they chat with two of the cutest kids ever.

Another music and photomontage. Matilde is recalling her courtship with Carlos. He asks her to marry him with a Crackerjack ring. She encounters Prissybutt who tells her that she does not want to cause problems for MiCharlie and she will go to a hotel. Carlos later encounters Pricilla in her room packing her suitcase.

Coni’s house.

Regina meets Coni to talk about El Centro Esperanza and the situation with Amparita. “She is not your daughter”, Regina tells Connie. Corina has responsibility for her. Regina reiterates that Coni’s behavior is breaking all the rules. Regina threatens to report Amparita to DIF. (Anybody know if this is child protective services or the police? Another agency?). Later Honorio tells Gonzolo about Coni’s behavior. “My sister adores Renata. I’ll talk to her”, declares Gonzo.

Marina has gone to see Saul at this hotel. She tells him, “I do not accept your proposal but I will accept your help getting out of this place”. Ta dummm.

It appears that other recappers will get to choose Anvil Scores for Fina, Blanca, and several other characters. Good luck and happy scoring to all!
---

Vivi intruding here. DVRs and VCRs may have cut off since our show went a bit over, so I'll add the final scene that our show ended on: Augie comes upon Nata at the cafe working on the fingerprint project. She keeps her distance as they chit chat about Jero being free, and she points out that it was Augie's fault that Jero was thrown in jail in the first place, in Augie's quest to clear his name. And he didn't even really do that yet. Augie says his conscience is clear, and people just like to envy a "winner" like him. Jero walks up with the paperwork from the courthouse for the Friday wedding. He embraces and kisses Nata and then begins to wax poetic about his love for Nata, clearly in an attempt to annoy the hell out of Augie. It works. He's so happy with his mujer, that he invites Augie to their Friday wedding. Augie is NOT amused.

Avances: Jero is not happy with Marina's plans to leave. Nata is ticked at Jero and tells him to let Marina go if she wants to go!

Vivi - A masterpiece - your finest recap to date.

Could anyone NOT love a summary that includes "prognostications",
"osculate" and "equivocate"? Nopis.

The subjective anvil scores were so clever and fun. BTW, I agree with you on the anticipated fate of our beloved characters love lives and length of life.

I had high hopes for Roberta's eventual redempmtion but ITA that it's too late. Even if Roberta were to donate an organ, the host recipient would reject it.

As much as Marina's incessant whining is grating and annoying, I did feel somewhat sorry that Renato and Jero's (much deserved) happiness continues to be a dagger in her heart. I'm fearful she will not make it to the end, although I hope she does.

More Kari and Super Laz please!

Vivi, the dialog tranlations were so helpful. Gracias for a memorable recap.

Diana

Elna June - my apologies! I just re-read (did I have a choice? it was marvelous).

Again, a masterpiece. Amazing.

Diana

Diana- Oh yes. This was all Elna June genius. I did add a bit at the end, so go back to read it.

Elna June- Just fabulous! I love the score card. I think most of our couples are solid, if going through some rough pactches right now.

Mati really does need to take everyone's advice to grown up and approach the situation in a mature way. She's not helping her case with this bratty attitude.

So all the MRs and extended family are coming to the hacienda for the wedding Augie intends to foil. Oh, this should create lots of drama. And Coni will be left in D.F. with the Trojan Baby and Blanca and Fina on the loose with their night pass. More mayhem to come! How soon will "Friday" come for us?

Oh, my favorite moment last night, aside from the chat Nata had with Mati, and Nata and Jero canoodling everywhere, was Augie’s reaction to finding out Nata and Jero are getting married from Berta. “Que qué!!!” LOL!

I also thought it was funny that Nata hopped up from the couch when Gina said she was putting Gonzo on the phone. Like he was about to walk into the room and catch her making out on the couch with her boyfriend. I love Nata’s laugh, but was struck by how almost cruel it can sound as Marina listened in. Poor Marina. Ok. That’s as much sympathy and pity that I can muster up for her.

The Pear Robe Project:
This weekend I decided to play a memory game with myself to see if I could remember in which tns I've seen that pear robe, and the real challenge, what scenes. Then I tracked down the episodes and got screen shots. My intention is to do a special Pear Robe post on the blog. I found the robe four times:STUD, Dinero, ENDA, and Llena.

The question I have is, did the robe appear in Gancho? It just seems like the kind of item that would have appeared in the hood in that tn. But Moni always wore a pink terry robe at home, and of course her pink shiny robe in the ring. Please jog my memory if it made an appearance there so that I can track it down.

Did the robe appear in any earlier tns I may have not seen? I can give it an honorable mention, but likely will not be able to find an image of it unless you know the exact episode it appeared in.

Thanks for indulging me. :)

EJ! Damn, girl, you killed it! Scholarly, witty, and I can tell you had FUN writing this! "Meanwhile, a guy who looks like a really mean Mexican Jesus" -- I cracked up through the whole thing!

I was thinking of an annoyance meter as I watched even before I read your recap. I was enjoying Laz and Kari, they had just heaved that big sigh in unison when Dr. Shoescrapings appeared (big annoyance score) -- your "Mean Mexican Jesus" comment immediately lightened that moment. Other annoyances, Maritatas OF COURSE, wearing even tighter skinny jeans now that she's pregnant, Prissybutt and always Auggie.

I can't believe we're going to get another wedding kidnapping and/or shooting....aye! Somebody's going to die OR there will be no wedding as Jero freaks out over the departure of masochistic, morose Maritata in which case maybe Auggie will kidnap Renata while Jero runs off after Tata. I got a feeling the fingerprints will be used somehow in the search for her and the discovery that she is Regina's daughter will be made at the same time. . .

Well, EJ, your theme of prognostication got me carried away! Stellar, amiga, now, galactic recap!

Lila

Mike: My heartfelt condolences to you and Emilia on the passing of your mother. I couldn't say anything more eloquent that what Judy noted: "We all want that but often it's not the case. Although the hospice nurses say "no one dies alone...they all see their loved one who have already passed on at the moment of their death". But how much warmer to have your own living loved ones with you as well."

Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.

Diana

Vivi
Thanks so much for posting this. I have to run to early meetings. More later.

EJ

Elna June, this is awesome. I also enjoy your scoring system. Clearly there's still a fair number who are doomed.

I believe the next to go (really,,, I think this time for sure) is Alvaro. I think that sad scene is a prelude to a suicide. In fact I thought it was going to happen last night.

I appreciated Renata's little chat with Matilde as far as it went... I just don't think she went far enough. She told her how to deal with Carlos but not with Pris. I think everyone sees what Priscila is up to and the untenable situation that Mati is in.

Now is the time for Carlos to take a stand since Jerry could but won't. (Yes, he sounded very wise in his chat with Carlos, but he's the master at La Bonita... Pris is a disruptive force that he should deal with).

Carlos can see the pain that Pris is causing Mati. Sure, he doesn't want to hurt his old friend (and lover) but there are times in every life where difficult and unpleasant choices must be made.

Mati is accused of acting immaturely and perhaps she is, but Priscila is there to take away her novio by any means possible (she's already poisoned Carlos) and no one seems to be helping Mati. Face it, is Nata's wise but lame advice about jealousy really going to help her deal effectively with someone like Pris? I think not.

Vivi, I love your Pear Robe Project. I'm pretty sure that Priscila wore it in MEPS and I think that Marely may have worn it in Juan Querendon. I'm also fairly certain that I saw it in Gancho... either Estrella or Isabel.

Carlos

EJ - I haven't had a chance to watch or read the re-cap yet, except for the great title and I can't wait to see what Subjective Anvil Scores are all about and what rankings are given. What a fun idea! I'll add my two-bits later.

Mike and Emilia - I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. I love thinking of Mike out on his bike, the wind in his face, getting refreshed and ready to start anew.

Cheryl - your re-cap was stupendous. I had to LOL at the end of your title: "But enough about me". Thanks for posting those great pictures! It looks like you were standing right where Regina and Gonzo were eating.

David - how proud are you? And how proud are we that we know you? Your handsome son looks just like you, and those darling babies are simply delicious! Emilia - Their beanies are adorable and so is David's.

The most haunting comment goes to Lila: Would Roberta take a bullet for Regina? Panic panic, is it going to come down to that? Cheryl, how would you feel about Roberta (die already!) actually dying doing something altruistic?

Word verification: flites, which is funny as I am heading out the door to pick my son up at the airport.

Rosemary la Otra

Oh Carlos. I think you are far too easy on Matilde. Pris has no power if Mati doesn't fall for her tricks and fall into the jealousy trap. Right now Pris is positioning herself to look like the adult in this situation. She is speaking reasonably to Carlos and (seemingly) pulling herself out of the picture by going to a hotel. Mati is making herself look like a baby.

Same with Carlos. Jero is giving him the power to change this situation. That's what asking him if he really needed Pris was about. If he let Jero make the decision for him, how would he confront other difficult situations in his relationship in the future? Carlos has to be the one to take the bull by the horns, or headband.

Pear Robe: I didn't see Juan Q. Yes, I remember Pris in the robe in MEPS now! Perhaps in a scene fretting over being pregnant by Vlad. Still can't place the darn thing in Gancho.

EJ thanks for your great recap. I loved your prognosticating anvil ratings and agree with most of your predictions.

I'm going to chalk it up to end of the year grading and the end of the semester madness as I have NO sympathy for Mariana. Yes overhearing Jero and Renata must have been painful but almost every time we see her she is crying over a questionable night of passion (on a desk). Her pity party may turn malicious and her actions moving more towards Fina as her hatred of Renata grows. Thank goodness for you recappers as I can't watch her scenes and FF on to important plot points - thanks, rant over.

From yesterday, seeing Jero in that white suit did open my eyes to those in the JS fan club. To me he has always been a handsome man but he looked really great in white suit.

Elna June, what a fabulous recap. I love the anvil thene with telenovela psych scores and your brilliant diagnoses. They all deserve you as their compassionate analyst to help some of these inept boobs.

Vivi, thanks for posting and attaching the ending which was such a fun moment for me too. I had a good night's sleep and woke to post for EJ but you were the rescuer at the ready.

Wow, what another positioning capitulo, so many twists and so much build up and I will smile all day at Augie's clenched jawed reaction at the romantic couple. I am glad they are sprinkling the build up with happy moments for SuperLaz and Happy to delirious Kari.

I haven't read this but I'm so intrigued by the title that I can't wait.

Güera

So I have a question for all you lovely MOMs. If MarinaTatas continues to wear those painted on jeans will the little munchkin twins need beanies from our fashionista Emilia that are cone shaped?? I'm not sure I could crochet a cone head beanie..

Regarding Alvaro, I wanted to get out some handiwipes to clean the jail bars after he canoodled with them. But, for once he didn't swear to go after Kari again but seems to truly regret that he has lost someone he down deep loved. Too down deep for me but at least he isn't part of the night visitors like our white gowns.

About Taxco, Rosemary L.O. yes I think I was in one of the restaurants across the plaza from the cathedral that was where they filmed our Gonzo and Regina. The group from the UI school spent half our lunch time there taking pictures of each other with that beautiful back scene. And to Rosemary #1, your comment yesterday about a CME or all Caray2 reunion should definitely include Taxco. And the beautiful scenes with SuperLaz and Kari were near where I stayed in October and where Jarocha and I spent our afternoon strolling near Palacio e Bellas Artes. Another great reunion spot.

Diana:
Thank you for your ever-so-kind feedback. I loved your comment, "Even if Roberta were to donate an organ, the host recipient would reject it". LOL!

Vivi:

Could you post a photo of the "pear robe"? I cannot bring this garment to mind. Of course wardrobe is re-used again and again in TNs produced by Televisa.
One set of wardrobe items that may not see much future use is Renata's outfit of last evening. Chocolate brown shorts and tights, orange leather boots and jacket. Lordy that was a fashion/time-specific look!

Lila: Dr. Shoescrapings. Hahahaha! Wonderfully funny image.

Carlos: Yes, methinks doom hangs ungentle over several character's heads. As for Jero, Carlos and Mati...You have a point that no one is stepping up to rescue Matilde from this situation. Jero COULD have fired Miss Priss last night but she was Carlos' employment choice, not his. Doesn't that, aside from the fact that Carlos got himself into this sticky situation, make dealing with Prissy Carlos' problem? ITA with Vivi that Jero is empowering MiCharlie to step up to accountability here.

On the other side, I also agree with you that Jero has played the role of s$!# disturber here, and you are the only one who calls him to account. You have an eagle eye for Jerry's misdeeds, amigo.

Karen:

"I'm going to chalk it up to end of the year grading and the end of the semester madness as I have NO sympathy for Mariana".

Anyone teaching at university at semester's end deserves our heartfelt appreciation. What a completely stressfull atmosphere! Your situation is MUCH more sympathetic to me than Marina's. Hear hear for all educators!

R la O: How exciting it is that you are picking up your son. Is he home for the holidays?

EJ

EJ- Oh, you'll see the robe when I do my special Pear Robe post. You can't forget it once you've seen it. Which is why it boggles the mind that they use it so often.

Nata's outfit last night fit perfectly with David's description-- Sponge Bob Squarepants. :) No, this look must never be used on another heroine again.

Lucia over on Fuerza gets to wear HUGE beautiful earrings as her signature look. She's lucky. But she is a very boring heroine. I'll take Nata Squarepants any day.

Good Morning!

Ok, I LOVE - I mean LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Anvil-o-meter! Love it.

My predections:

MariStoreBoughtbutI'mcarryingthe twinsinthemTatas: = 1 - I know, I know, it must be so difficult facing this alone but seriously, pull up them-there boots honey and hold your head high - you got two wonderful babies on the way and a man who will always be there for them - and stop blubbering all over town - it's so embarrasing already and pathetic. No sympathy for her at all. So yes, she needs to go otherwise she's going to make everyone's life miserable with her pity party.

Roberta: - = -0 Everyone hates her so she will be miserable anyway; especially after everyone finds out she is the real SonofFina.

Fina: - = -0 and can't wait to see her go - but she should spend 10 years on death row first, reading the daily newspaper society column about all the fun the Monterubios are having.

Blanca: 2 - I think it would be more fun to keep her in the nuthouse forever - with no hall pass.

Dr. FutureWormBanquet: Either he needs to hang himself or maybe we could set him up with Roberta.

MsPrissButt: 2 - she needs to take the first train out of Dodge or hook up with Augusfiend.

And last but not least:
Augusfiend: -0 survial. I predict his jaw will permanently jut completely out of place and he will no longer be able to chew - thereby slowly starving to death. We can only hope.

Enough about them. It's me and Mi Jero time - and right no one wears a suit better than him! Ok, so as the end nears, where, where am I supposed to go for my daily Jero-fix? I mean really? You think MariStoreboughtbut...Tatas is having a pity party.

Love,

Mary

Thanks Vivi---Love those anvil scores.

Women who refuse to grow up make me nuts. Coni needs to stop letting hormones take over her brain and start acting like an adult. Marina needs to stop setting herself for perpetual sobbing and marinating the twins in sorrow by getting the hell out of town and staying there. Coni, you're too old for the mommy scene, and Marina, you're a damn doctor with a brilliant mind. C'mon ladies, put on your big girl panties and start acting like mature women.

I don't care how "understandable" their behavior is, it's time to grow up.

Elna June -- what a clever recap. I love your anvil theme and mainly agree with you prognostications. I just can't give up on Roberta. Her demise would be so hurtful to Gonzo, Gina and Renata. Please let their be some sort of redemption. I don't see how but I can always hope.

The contrast when the scene jumped from ecstatic Kari & Laz straight to Alvaro in prison made me shudder. I hope that he won't be using that stash that Nata gave him to cause more trouble for the honeymooners. I really had hoped that Antonio had turned him around.

So glad that I caught the final scene. Oh the jaw! I loved how Jero came up and said that he for once agreed with Auggie that we all end up where we belong and that he (Jero) belongs right where he is at the side of HIS woman. Auggie almost swallowed his tongue from biting it.

Favorite scene -- Nata advising Mati.
I also loved the juxtaposition of Jero advising Carlos. Jero is trying to get Carlos to face his own feelings and resolve his situation on his own. Good advice.

Güera

EJ - Just got home from the airport. It was just a quick pick-up of my son returning from a 3-day Pharmacists' Conference in New Orleans. Not quite like David's wonderful reunion!

Now.... off to start on last night's show and your re-cap.

R la O

Subjective Anvil Scores are the best. SAS...gee, just add another "s" word and we're really in business. Any suggestions for SASS?

"Roberta grimaces like a cat with a fishbone in her throat". Oh, what a great image. You've described our Roberta perfectly EJ, and Diana's quip that even if Roberta donated an organ, the recipient would reject it is too funny. I'm losing hope for her redemption but these stories do often include repentance before demise, so maybe there will be a heartfelt deathbed scene. I can't see Roberta managing a happily-ever-after scenario though.

Sorry amigo mio Dr. Carlos, I have to agree with Vivi and Elna June that it's the telenovela Carlos who has to deal with Prissbutt. It's call "triangling" when you expect someone else to deal with a problem of your own making, and it's not recommended. Step up young Carlos and take charge. (And grow up young Matilde, please.)

I'm tired of watching Marina cry but I have a daughter who's grieving the end of a romance right now, so I'll still going to cut the Doctora some emotional slack. I just don't want to watch or hear her any more though (the Doctora not my daughter!.

Loved this line -- Fina, Blanca and Roberta watch Dr. Deadmorals osculate a check
I also enjoyed --- Marina is stricken and grabs her non-existing bump

The justifications which accompany your SAS are very amusing. I was actually thinking the same thing as I watched Allison & Anibal -- They'll make a happy couple at the end of the show but long term not so much.

I bet you are also right on when you give the odds of a wedding coming off on schedule on Friday a ZERO chance. Too bad -- but likely.

EJ: Awesome recap. I love your Anvil scoring. Fav line: “Meanwhile, a guy who looks like a really mean Mexican Jesus “. Only going to say it was a good thing I wasn’t eating or drinking when I read that.

I’m not a mother, so I don’t know, but is it really necessary for Coni to be holding that baby all the time?

Still loving the great Laz and Kari scenes. The last few eps have been fun with Laz and Kari and Jero and Nata frolicking about.

The Nesme scene was a little disturbing. I thought I saw something—but maybe it’s my imagination? I don’t want to say anything except. Ewww! And Ewwww! Again.

Did Nata tell Antonio not to say anything to Marina about the wedding?

Vivi: Thanks for furnishing the last bit of the ep. I learned from MEPS (or was it STuD?) to set my DVR for 5 minutes after the end. One of those TNs ran over for almost 5 minutes because the previous one always ended late.

I’m glad Marina decided not to marry Saul. If she really was going to put her and her babies in the care of a man that “had” a gambling problem and who showed up and told her it was over and she believed him without any proof but his word, I was going to say she must be the stupidest woman alive.

Carlos: I totally agree with you about Mati (shock, I know) and the needed advice on how to deal with Priss. She’s out of her league dealing with a manipulative B like Priss, unless she gets some advice on how to do it and then watch out Little Miss Priss. Mati is a force to be reckoned with.

Mary: “Fina: - = -0 and can't wait to see her go - but she should spend 10 years on death row first, reading the daily newspaper society column about all the fun the Monterubios are having. “ Love it!!

I remember someone saying that most everyone was going to continue on after CME with the TN in that time slot—which I believe is El Talisman. But the other one, I can’t remember the name, is going to have Ana Martin (Benita from STuD). I might have to watch that one. Speaking of AM, I started recording old Mexican movies with some of the older TN actor’s I’ve seen. I just finished Blue Demon vs. las Diabolicas (1968) with AM and just started a 1955 one with Silvia Pinal (Tizzy from STuD).

Is Matias growing his hair out for his next TN? Looks like it.

Robey

Robey- La Que no Podia Amar is the one with Ana Martin, as well as Jose Ron (Matias) with hair, and a bunch of other people. It will be starting first since it looks like Fuerza will end 1-2 weeks before CME (which is being replaced by Talisman).

I guess I just don't know what advice one could give Mati regarding Pris, except stop acting like an immature jealous brat and keep your cool. Your man loves you and you're just giving him reasons to think he made the wrong choice with you, and perhaps he should give that other girl a chance. Which is exactly what Manuela and Nata told her in much nicer ways.

EJ, a masterpiece is right! I love your anvil rating theme and scheme. It is pure brilliance and a fun game. Nice job amiga!!

"Roberta grimaces like a cat with a fish bone caught in its throat." Ha! Possibly my favorite line of the night.

"Mean Mexican Jesus" totally cracked me up too. I don't actually think it is the same actor, but he sure looks like the guy who played the role of the lascivious witch doctor in Labios Rojos, the film I saw with Silvia Navarro and Gorge Salinas.

I believe I noted a first last night, Augustin doing the jut-jaw while smiling. Of course it was a forced smile (after being invited to the boda) but still.

Well, we have been waiting for a gathering in the wine country for all hell to break loose and it looks like Telenovela Friday is the day. I wonder who the lucky recapper will be to get that episode?

So that was Prissbutt's way to "help Charlie", to infuriate and be condescending to Mati? I say get her out of the house NOW. I'm with Matilde on this one. Mati just needs to throttle back and not be so up front with her anger.

Robey, "I’m not a mother, so I don’t know, but is it really necessary for Coni to be holding that baby all the time?". My thoughts exactly.

Vivi, I kind of recall the pear robe being in Gancho but I can't remember who it was. I know for sure it hasn't been in CME because I've actually been keeping an eye out for it.

EJ, thanks again for your terrific recap. What a great episode as the anvils gather for a showdown.

Oh, forget to say great title and thank you to Vivi for posting and adding the end.

EJ - I finally got to Watch, Read, Laugh (our version of Eat, Pray, Love) and want to thank you for such a fine piece of telenovelamanship.

I am loving your Anvil Scorecard! I want to participate, but have to leave for work. I really need to either quit my job or get one where I can access the computer. I hope others will continue to give their rankings. I don't want a spoiler, but I love to predict!

EJ - loved House of Stone Balls!

The park where Kari and Laz rested looks like the same one from where Fina kidnapped Renata.

Off to work, but I'd much rather be analyzing anvils in our SASS game.

R la O

Hi All,

Been dealing with the flu here and am finally seeing a glimmer through the man-hole cover.

I don't think I was sufficiently verbal about Cheryl's great photgraphic talent and recapping abilities. You are really gifted.

EJ this was amazing; not only a gret blow-by-blow but a superimposed sliding scale for disaster! Great concept, and yes, we need to keep Regina and Gonzo safe so they can be abuelo's

For those of you who asked, my son does not speak Spanish, so I think his future in TN' would be very limited.

David

Great idea of doing the anvil score. I completely agree with all of the scores you gave, except for Hon and Con. I would give them a 5.

My take on Matilde/Carlos is I think Matilde was right to give him back his ring. If Carlos can be so obtuse and not realize what effect having an ex girlfriend working closely with him whom he didn't even tell Matilde about, then he's not ready for marriage. He cares more about having his ego stroked by an ex who wants him back than he does about his fiance. He needs to tell Priscilla that he is not interested in her and that she needs to back off. If he doesn't do that then Matilde will have future problems with his woosyness. And also, if all he needs Priscilla for is doing hand work that he can't do, then get someone else.

Renata's shorts reminds me of the woman in Las Tontas No Van al Cielo who wore them with tights too. My daughter thought that was an funny looking fashion statement.

Is that actor who is starring in Talisman the same actor who was in Un Corazon Abierto? He was so hunky in that, I hope it's the same actor. Sorry I don't know any of their real names.

I thought Prissbutt was leaving the house to go to a hotel. She made it sound (to Charlie) like she was doing it for his sake, but them said something to Mati about her curse as she was leaving (out of earshot of Charlie). This seemed to be her plan. Not sure how leaving helps, but she will be coming back and using Mati's curse against her. Sure, Mati's headband may be on a little tight, but she believes in her curse (not much crazier than other beliefs) and needs help seeing that Prisbutt will be the cause of Charlie's future pain (I assume), not the curse. Maybe Allison can help here? And Annibal. He's a kid that shouldn't be messed with, but in a good way. Not like his father. More like SuperLaz.

Marina. She doesn't deserve to die, but she clearly can't handle twins if she can't even deal with the pregnancy. Maybe she'll give up custody to Renata and Jero and go back to DF. It'd be less said than dying in childbirth, and less annoying than having her around to cry about Jero for the next 18 years.

Kelly

Great recap! I love the use of the Subjective Anvil Score System (SASS) to predict the outcomes. (Does that work, Judy?) I'm so late to the party here that my favorite lines have been mentioned...I won't repeat yet again, but I really enjoyed the reading!

We might need to resurrect Ferro's Ugly Crying Scale for Marina. Maybe she's named Marina because she's such a waterworks.

Did Paula maybe wear the pear robe in Gancho? Somehow I can envision her in it but I can't remember specifically; maybe I'm making that up.

I'm putting the wedding happening as a 1 on the scale. I'd like to think Augie will be thwarted! We're getting close enough to the end for it to be a possibility, right? And that would make him even more furious and spur him to an even bigger spectacular showdown in the final week.

Well, I'm sure the writers are having Constanza hold the baby so much in order to show the dangerous obsession. But...as a mother...if I'd been given a baby who was missing its mother and finding itself in a strange environment, I would hold it a lot just to give it reassurance. Infants who are well loved and whose cries for comfort are met, grow up believing the world is basically a good place. And granted, it's not always so, but growing up distrustful and cynical is no advantage either.

Robey: "Did Nata tell Antonio not to say anything to Marina about the wedding?"

No. Tony wanted them to work on the campaign inside the parish house. Nata suggested the cafe instead because Marina lives in the parish house and Nata knew it would be uncomfortable for Marina and for her to be in the same space.

Oh my gosh! I am working at home today (as if you couldn't tell from all my post). I've got the tv on some random tn in the background- Ni Conigo, Ni Sin Ti, and the Pear Robe just appeared!!! I swear. It's like I conjured it.

Thanks to Robey, Sylvia, cathx, and Kelly for your understanding and support for Mati.

I'm going to try to explain my position(s) a little better.

First can we all agree that Pris is not a good thing? For some reason Mati and possibly Manuela are the only ones at La Bonita who recognize this. I think that Jerry and Renata may actually derive perverse entertainment watching Carlos squirm and Mati fume.

I agree with Vivi and Judy that Carlos should be more clear and assertive... but he's not. Therefore since Jerry is ultimately The Boss, seeing the negative force that is Pris, he should either instruct Carlos to fire her or if Carlos (for reasons of friendship) simply can't, then fire her himself.

If Pris were innocently there to help out Carlos then I might (note I said might) be less sympathetic with Mati, but she is truly single-handedly trying to deal with a malignant vixen.

Carlos

Vivi, I want you to back slowly away from the TV. Don't turn your back on it until you are on the far side of the room then go take a hot shower, stiff drink, or walk outside. This is toooooo scary. But I can't wait to see the Pear Opus on C2, I just can't remember it but have watched all of the TN's you are mentioning.

David, thank you for your very kind words to me. This crowd is such an extra pleasure to write and share photos with. Coming here to the CME posts every day is better than therapy and almost as good as a Swedish Massage. HA!

I keep picturing that white suit on Jeronimo. To think he looks GQ fabulous while wearing a white suit, white shirt and even a white tie and it doesn't look sharkey at all. Wow! And isn't it fun to see Renata and Jero become the wise relationship counselors already. So cute.

I don't remember the pear robe in Gancho, maybe because that show had so many robes with the boxers and all. (Boxers as in people boxing, not shorts or doggies.)

Vivi, no way! You just had another pear robe sighting? I set Ni Contigo Ni Sin Ti to tape just so I could see it. What a scream.

Carlos, I really have a reaction to women moving in on a man when she knows he's in a relationship. Hence my loathing of the malignant vixen (great description!). I do wish MiCharlie would man up and deal with Pris directly, but I don't think that's going to happen soon. Mati's gut instincts are spot-on, she just doesn't know how to deal with the situation which makes her look 'wrong' somehow and is filling her with self doubt. You're right, she needs some help. If I were Mati I would try to get some assistance from Manuela and Renata. Be strong Mati! Pris said think of Carlos...well think of him and fight to get him away from the poisonous poisoning scheming witch.

Vivi: Thanks for the forthcoming TN info and the explanation of what Nata said about Marina. I just heard Nata say her name and since all Nata's been talking about is the wedding, assumed that was it. Re: your take on Mati. She is being immature, I agree with Cathyx that her reasons are good, it's just her methods tend to sabotage her. I also agree with Dr. C, that she seems to be alone in trying to deal with P--or should I say B.

R la O: Love "Watch, Read, Laugh" that definitely should be our mantra.

Kelly: Marina will have a lot of wind taken out of her sails if Nata does end up pregnant.

David: Your son could always learn Spanish :)

My word verification is crocy--the kind of tears Berta cries when she's being manipulative or suspected of doing something wrong.

Robey

"Vivi, I want you to back slowly away from the TV. Don't turn your back on it until you are on the far side of the room then go take a hot shower, stiff drink, or walk outside. This is toooooo scary." HAHH AHAHA AHHAAH HAAA! WHOO! That is soooo funny! You're fine, Vivi, I have seen conjuring work first hand. . .me and the girls at work don't even question it anymore or even hum the "Twilight Zone" jingle.

Mati is expressing her anger and fear childishly but I agree with those who say her instincts and fears are well-founded. Carlos is the one that needs, like Jero said, to be honest about HIS feelings. I think he was the dumpee in the relationship with Prissyass and invited her to "help" at the hacienda as suggested by one of mis amigos, to stroke his ego. Speaking of stroking, he let's Pris do that and coo "MiCharlie" to him in front of the Duenos, I can see her taking this as encouragement. Carlos had better stop this bumbling dunder-head act and send Pissypants packing!

Guera (how do you get the little dots over the U, I need to make a keyboard cheat sheet), anyway Guera, what a kind soul you are, and so patient.

Redemption for Berta? Let's see, she could take a bullet for Regina or Renata, have a near death experience and confess to her part in La Mentira. . .she can even survive and be changed as these experiences are often transformative. Or, she could get in a bad car accident that throws her free while Fina and Blanca combust in a firey preview-of-hell crash. Repeat near-death experience for Roberta as above.

Or, as I suggested earlier, Auggie kidnaps Renata and she is lost but both the fingerprints and a Roberta confession save Nata in the knick of time and Gonzo and Regina forgive Berta because of her eeevil nature and nurture at the claws of Fina?

Now, all those who wish it so could really think on these and it could conjure a redemption for Berta!

Lila

Carlos, mi amigo:
If Matilde were to get some loving but stern counsel, and if she could take the advice and put it into practice, she would be formidable. Prissy would be a tabby housecat to THE HEADBAND's Siberian tiger.

I can easily see both sides of this story. Like you,I think that Renata and Jero have enabled Prissy by just sitting back and enjoying the show and not expressing disapproval at her behavior. On the other hand, some would argue that Jero and Renata are responding to Carlos' obvious ambivalence about Prescila. If they have concerns that Carlos might end up choosing Prissy over Matilde they might want to keep a wary distance while the situation shakes itself out.

I stubbornly say that the fix in this situation comes down to Carlos. He should protect Mati, he should be clear with Prescila, and he should be clear with himself about what and who he wants. His uncertainty and fear of conflict first set up and now maintain the crazy-making atmosphere for Matilde. I think she has every right to feel hurt and confused. She just needs some grown-up self control and communication skills and BLAMMO! She could let both Prissy and Carlos have it!

Sigh. Advising TN characters is so much easier than dealing with real people. I love how they don't talk back.Grin.
EJ

Lila- I'm pro-RobertaRedemption, but I think we may need Vivi to get on board to make it happen. It's going to take special skills to conjure up this one.

Kelly

Lila:

In the last two posts you and I said much the same thing in different words. We are on the same track! Big smile.

I'll consider Roberta redemption concepts. Gotta go back to work.

Yah, EJ, I saw that! And Kelly, I think we could make it happen. I don't think they'll kill Roberta, the theme of twins and stolen babies is too strong but it's gonna take some blood. Hmmm, could Fina be on her death bed and Roberta cry out "Mama!" followed by a confession by Berta? And speaking of stolen babies, the first baby they need to fingerprint is Amparita. I think that little tyke will be reunited with its poor Mama and then Connie can be the Godmommy and fulfill her maternal yearnings til Adri and Matt's little bundle comes along!

Lila

Lila,

On my MAC if I hit the option key (also known as the alt kry) and the "u" together it will put the two dots over the next vowel. Don't know if it works on a PC

Güera

Elna June, your analysis of the Mati/Pris situation is spot on. Indeed, ideally Carlos should take the initiative, open his eyes to what is going on an solve the problem. I'd invoke the old surgeons' dicho... "A chance to cut is chance to cure."If Carlos is not inclined to operate then maybe Jerry should sharpen his scalpel and cut Priscila loose. She is a cancer on La Bonita.

Oh Carlos, would that we all had as staunch an advocate as Matilde has in you. I'm downright envious. They didn't make enough of you, querido amigo.

If Carlos is waffling, maybe Mati deserves better.

Robey

Oh thanks for the Mac operation to put dots over a letter. I know most of the other Mac commands to alter letters. But no, this is completely particular to Apple products. There are different commands to alter letters on a PC.

If Mati refuses to listen to anything Carlos says and just talks over him when he's trying to say something, maybe Carlos deserves better.

Better does not equal Priscilla. I was thinking ME.

Doctor Carlos, I agree with JudyB that you are a unique treasure and we do need to get cloning directions for making more fine folks like you in the world. Matilde should thank her lucky headband every morning so you will stay as her staunchest defender. Bravo! And I still have hopes that you will be reconciled to the Jeronimo total reconditioning as the perfect mate for Renata.

By the way, I forgot to write in on your excellent recap last Friday. It was so full of your inimitable humor, I totally enjoyed it. My only excuse was being flat out with six parties in four days including the opening of the NM photog.Exhibit The party season has started early in December here. It is actually kind of calming to drop in here between gala events to laugh and kick back with my amigos..

Julia: Good point. I think they're both handling this situation estúpidez.

Robey

Güera! I got un-lazy and looked it up. On a pc you use ALT plus the numeric pad to produce all kinds of accented spanish letters. If I want to get unlazier I can even program Microsoft Word to do this automatically. Thanks!

Lila

Thanks Judy and Cheryl, you are so sweet. I've just finished watching tonight's episode and it looks as though this discussion will continue tomorrow. Can't wait.

Carlos
