Cuando Me Enamoro #178 Monday 1/2/12 "Shrimp Boats Is a Comin', There's Dancin' Tonight"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMtKQd4TKi4S

I can’t help myself! I have had this old Jo Stafford tune from the 1950’s running through my head since Sylvia identified the boat as likely a shrimp boat. The song refers to a shrimp boat with sails but the photos confirm the questionable luxury where Augie has planned his delusional romantic conquest of Renata.

Review from Friday: Padre Sev worries about his modern family, Roberta plans her new independence in Europe with Mama Fina when they are able to cash her dandy check, Regina and Adriana arrive at the airport Anibal and Alison greet them under watchful eyes then Anibal goes for the truck. Jero worries about cleaning up before Renata sees him so Sabina goes for soap. In the car on the way Renata talks to Carlos and then Jero about meeting up at La Bonita or wherever she needs to go to see her husband this very day. They talk sweetly about their love, the coming baby and their plans for living happily ever after, when a flying black pickup truck changes everything. Anibal swerves off the road in response to the truck which turns into a special chauffeur job that Augie planned to get Renata to her honeymoon on the shrimpyloveboat. Augie’s henchmen drive off with Renata leaving a traumatized Alison and Adriana in the back seat and a wounded Anibal on the ground. Jero begins screaming that something happened with the connection so Carlos calls Renata’s number again. The traumatized youngsters decide to answer Renata’s cell phone. Adriana tells Carlos that Augie’s men hijacked the truck and escaped with Renata. An injured Jero is determined to ignore his ham sandwich face and broken ribs and pursue Augie to rescue his beloved.

At La Bonita Matilde and Alfonsina scream about the abduction and leave Manuela (with all the children I assume) to encounter the white truck victims before rushing off to the police station to tell them what they know.

Augie gets word on his shrimp boat that his special delivery is on her way. He smiles with satisfaction at his brilliant plans.

Adriana calls Gonzo and Regina on Renata ‘s phone to tell them what has happened.

Honorio hears from Gema that she will continue to invest HER money in Empresas Monterubbio even though German will be out of the picture. Hon and Mat determine that Roberta can’t be trusted to ever work at EM again. NO….S….. Sherlock.

Mat gets the call from Adriana about the abduction and just like that the whole family knows the latest when it used to take them months to communicate half as much.

Somehow, Alfonsina and Matilde have arrived at the scene jumped into to the ambulance in time to accompany an officer, with Adriana, Alison and the injured Anibal to the police station or hospital. (the editing is a bit choppy but we get it all done). Adriana tells what happened to Renata and Alfonsina assures the officer that she will tell all she knows to the police that Melecio told her about Augie’s cruise plans. The officer swears Augie will not be able to escape them. Which practically assures he is home free and they won’t be able to outrun his nuclear powered shrimpcruiser.

At the villa de bolas, Mat rushes in to collect Gonzo so they can go to the airport Regina cries but sees to go with them for the fastest tele-transported trip to the Baja ever.

Adriana talks with the investigator at warp speed bringing him up on the dastardly deeds of Augie. Alfonsina then declares that she has information from the foreman of La Cruz de Desamor that Augie has left his vineyard for the high seas.

Roberta arrives and screams for service from Panchita who tells her everyone left to rescue Renata. Roberta calls Augie who assures her that she won’t hear from Renata again. Thank god for that, now she is out of her way she responds then tells him the family already knows that Renata has been nabbed. We see Renata’s unconscious body brought onto the boat. Roberta screams more at poor Panchita. If Roberta has such a way with people, perhaps she should try human resources next? Well, maybe after she is miraculously redeemed? Any bets?

Marina shows up at Padre Sev’s and learns from Antonio about said Renata’s abduction. Finally she is thinking clearly and is worried that Augie will do Renata harm. They leave to go meet the injured Jero at La Bonita.

Anibal, in an examination gown seated on the exam table with Alison learns that even though he was just grazed and not really hurt or dead, the doctor assures him that he has to make a declaration with the police since all cases involving firearms the hospital must be reported to the police too. Anibal wants to rush out to rescue Renata while Matilde assures him that the declaration will help the police get to Renata sooner.

Gonzo, Regina, Adriana and Mat discuss events in the La Bonita Adri is updating Honorio on the phone when the guys bring in a limping Jeronimo. They all try to get him to bed while discussing the action plan to rescue Renata. It takes all of them to get him into his room.

Gonzo and Mat discuss that surely this animal won’t hurt Renata like he did Jeronimo. And they all liked him for so long. The masks have all dropped.

Pay attention, amigos, tonight we get one and only one sweet momentary reprieve. Kari gets to tell Lazaro that she has news, and not bad news but what they have been dreaming of. While he is nervous as a cat, she holds her belly and he guesses her news as she tells they will have a baby. He does his famous cry that we all knew he would and talks with cupped hand that he is greetings to this baby. He is his Papa calling through Kari’s stomach. He is talking to his son (hijo). She says maybe it’s a girl (nena). They laugh in delight. Okay, sweet moment is over, back to the salt mines! There is suffering to endure here!

Regina tenderly cleans his face while talking with Jero. Regina tells him she now knows Renata is her true daughter and how joyful it was to tell Renata and see her reaction. He wishes he could have seen the mother and child reunion. He reveals that he knew Roberta was a fake and he knew that Roberta was Augie’s lover. He adds that she needs to tell Gonzo because he is sure that Roberta knows what Augie has done with Renata.

The old sniffer is at work, preferring his women unconscious. It’s like old times. Renata jerks away from him as soon as she is comes to. He tells her that now she is his and they will go off together. He screams and they fight she has always found him kind and can’t believe the nice guy is gone. He swears he has never lost control and has demonstrated his undying love. She shirks off his advances

Gonzo hears from Jero that Roberta has to be questioned if they are to find out where Augie has gone with Renata. She surely knows. They plan to call her.

Augies continues to plant his rancid kisses on Renata and assure her that she will get used to his idea since there is no alternative. (Ick, this conversation was so disgusting.) But Renata realizes that Augie is talking about Jero being dead and her being an available widow (viuda) so she might as well begin to accept his icky advances. Her future is with him. She says you want my body? You can take my body but my heart and soul will always belong only to Jeronimo. Apparently Augie only transmits but doesn’t receive since he only recoils an inch from her slaps but continues trying to turn her on with his winning masculine ways. Renata hugs a picture of the Virgin de Guadalupe and prays to her for a solution out of this trap.

Roberta gets ready to get into bed when Honorio and Constanza enter her bedroom. She tries to kick them out using her nasty sense of righteous indignation. They reach Gonzo on the cell phone so he can ask Roberta to tell them where Renata is. She insists she doesn’t know. Gonzo reveals that they know that she is or was Augie‘s lover. She swears she didn’t tell Augie anything including that Renata was going back to the Baja, and she has no idea where Renata could be now. How could he believe that she could do such a thing. She plays indignation with such flair. He adds that Adriana says they ran into her with their suitcases so she must have guessed and told Augie. What does that have to do with anything and how could her Papa believe Adriana over her. Hon says his daughter is a lot more believable on all fronts that Roberta is. She isn’t giving in an inch and neither are Hon and Con. Gonzo back at La Bonita isn’t too satisfied with this standoff either.

Antonio and Marina arrive at La Bonita. Marina offers to take Jero’s blood pressure and assess whether he has a temperature perhaps needing an antibiotic. Regina is glad for the medical attention. They all leave Jero’s bedroom so Marina can examine him.

Augie has had time to bring great wine on board. So he dines on shrimp? thinking how clever he is and how Renata will cave to his demands.

Augie comes into Renata’s tiny cabin with a tray of food which Renata throws to the floor. The gloves are off and Augie informs her she will have to get over her annoyance or it’s tough (jaringarse) sooner so later she will comply with his fantasy.

Roberta calls Fina to complain about her Papa’s unjust accusation. Fina thinks it is great that Augie has taken Renata off their hands so she won’t have to finish Renata off herself. Check one more annoyance off the list. Something tells me that Fina and we all know that Roberta isn’t ready to meet Mom on an adult to adult level…

Carlos, Mat and another helper arrive to grab Melecio at the cantina while he waits for Alfonsina who seems to be late for their dinner date. They guys take him into custody with a minimum of fuss. He just looks confused about why Alfonsina isn’t there.

Laz arrives in the living room and is brought up to date on Marina arrival and the examination in Jero’s room. Anibal swears to all present that he is totally with them and wants to help bring Augie to justice in any way he can aid them.

Marina tells Jero she feels responsible for his beating and for Renata’s disappearance when she found out that Augie used her via Saul. She tells Jero that she and Renata have found friendship when they were working together to rescue him. And she wants to assure him that she realizes now what her role is and that of her children. She tells him that she will never use her children against him again but wants them to know him and respect him. He call her not only a good woman but a great woman. (Maybe he is sketching plans for an episode of Modern Family here.)

Renata finds her cabin door unlocked so goes exploring first below deck then climbs up. Arriving on deck in the dark, she scans far out at sea while creepster Augie asks her if she got bored being in her cabin. He points out the obvious that she is far out to sea and there is no escape so she might as well go back to her bed for the night. He assures her that there is no option but him and there is no more manly man than him. She pushes past him with a disgusted gesture of rejection but he grins in the night as her turns to black and white.

I guess this is my last recap on this racing paced story. It sure has been a fun ride. I will watch with bated breath for the next 4 nights with all of you. Feliz año nuevo y buenas noches, amigos mios.

Cheryl, I haven't heard that old song in years! Doesn't Jo Stafford have a wonderful voice? Thanks for that blast from the past which made such a perfect title. Now onto our drama...

You get special kudos tonight for your translation because almost all the dialogue was screamed and yelled. My word, it is difficult to understand people when they are howling and crying. Still, you pulled it off with your typical good-natured humor. (Even though you must have felt like barfing every time Augustin's jut-jaw poked out onto the screen.)

I couldn't help but laugh when Fina and Roberta kept trying to snatch the check from each other.

One of my favorite lines: "just like that the whole family knows the latest when it used to take them months to communicate half as much." You are so right about that. Tonight's entire episode was, as you noted, a weird time warp of events and disseminating of information. I thought it was hilarious how, smack dab in the middle of the drama, Kari happily informs Laz that she is pregnant.

Ewwww! Augustin was at his all-time low tonight. Rancid kisses is right! Blech. He is disgusting. I'll bet Melesio spills his guts with a minimum of prodding.

Thanks Cheryl! More tomorrow as I'm off to bed, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your recap and tonight's episode. Last week, ay! It's been great fun to be on the same recapping team once again.

Thanks Sylvia, you have been a wonderful teammate too! I love how the dramatic telenovelas end up giving us lots of laughs while the comedies sometimes can make us cry. This one has done both. Are you sticking in for El Talisman?

Cheryl, this recap is again a perfect example of your wonderful way with words. Many thanks for all your recaps through this fun ride!

( Loved your "NO….S….. Sherlock."-- just tickled me for some reason.)

Such a wonderful moment with our superhero Laz! Just knew he would holler like that. Those rooms must be wayyyyyy back of the hacienda, thought someone might come running. We needed that.

But then we had to deal with way more Auggie than my stomach wanted to deal with. Lord, that habit of his with the sniffing...disgusting. for a minute there I kept thinking, Nata, people tried to warn you...but then I thought, honestly, you just don't expect to get kidnapped unto a shrimp boat.

Jero is in such horrid shape, yet that preview with him in the wet suit. No way could he go diving--he could barely walk last night. How long does poor Nata have to be on that boat??

I rather like seeing the relationship with Gina and Jero. They are the perfect example of a man and woman being best friends, almost a brother/sister...I have always had male friends like that and a lot of people don't believe you can be that close without "romantic" undertones. When he put his head on her shoulder, so sweet and wonderful he had someone he could be vulnerable with instead of the "patron".

Oh, and yeah, Anibal came out with just a leg wound. That young man better inherit Auggie's fortune--minus the jackets.

May Berta just rot in ...well you know. Just despicable.

Thanks, Cheryl, for keeping up with all that fast paced hysterical speech. The CCs were just rolling by!

Roberta at Human Resources? lol and Augie as the old sniffer who prefers his women unconscious. Bleh to both those characters.

How nice to see Anibal okay and to hear Laz's scream.

I will check in later, but wanted to say thanks for clarifying so much.

Word verification: slyce - what we hope happens to Augie with his own sword.

Oh Cheryl- Thank you for so beautifully detailing the CME adventures of last night, and for all your other wonderful Monday recaps on this show.

Augie really was at his disgusting best (worst) last night. What with all that sniffing and getting up in Nata's space. I'm sure he got in a few stolen kisses and sniffs while she was out cold. I was creeped out when he said how lovely she was when his henchman brought her on the boat bound, gagged and unconscious. Blech! I thought I heard him say he would keep her docile with injections, of which he already had the prepared syringes, if she didn't start playing nice. Yikes!

Jero needs to heal fast, get some good pain maids in him, and start working on adrenaline if they are going to rescue Nata soon.

There was an announcement last night that Familia would be moving to the 7pm slot starting next week, meaning El Talisman will become the 8pm show. That makes a lot more sense, but not sure how it affects this group as most usually watch the 7pm show. Also, the final episode (181) of CME which is two hours is being split between Thursday and Friday (no 2 hour finale night). So Amy, you will likely have the happy, happy final hour (at least I hope it’s happy).

Ai ai ai. Two weeks visiting my mother, who I think is literally the last adult in America who doesn't have cable, and when I turn on the TV everyone's pregnant and Renata is a seaborne captive in a vest made out of hamsters. GUAU.

This has been a wild ride for sure! Many, many thanks to all the recappers -- I was able to sneak in reading the summaries but couldn't get to the comments, more's the pity -- and I'm so happy I am home in time for the final week. I think this will be my first TN wetsuit scene. (If anyone knows how to say "wetsuit," please pass it along. That's news I can use.)

Oh, drat. I guess I'll say thanks Vivi for the news, but I'm not happy about my 7:00pm slot now filled with a show I'm not watching (nor care to). What a bummer...

Thanks for your recap Cheryl. You have made late Monday/Tuesday a special treat for me during this TN. And your comments keep me laughing this morning.

Wow, I don't think I've seen a bad character as delusional as Augie. We know he's off but last night was both icky and infuriating. He'll most likely die but I would like some humiliation/suffering for him as well b/c he's harmed so many.

Daisy - your observation of Jero/Regina was nice. I too enjoyed his being vulnerable with her and resting his head on her shoulder.

Thanks for the time change heads up Vivi.

Thanks Cheryl, what fun it has been having you as a recapper for this entertaining show. I've always admired your work and your keen wit was perfectly suited to this TN. You never disappointed.

As a child, I loved Shrimp Boats is Acomin'... I was 8 yrs. old and had actually been on a shrimp boat. We would drive to the bay and buy shrimp right off the boat and eat them that same evening.

daisynjay, you cracked me up today with:

"...Nata, people tried to warn you...but then I thought, honestly, you just don't expect to get kidnapped unto a shrimp boat."

I wonder what is going to happen to the doctora. She certainly looked healthy enough last night.

I was disappointed that Melesio didn't put up more of a struggle, but I think that Matias was even more disappointed than I was.

Carlos

Thanks for the title, Cheryl. I love that old song -- and Jo Stafford.

I'm so glad we got our moment of sweetness with Laz and Kari. I loved the yell and the shouting at the stomach. He will always be our Super-Laz.

I also breathed a sigh of relief when we found out for sure that Anibal was wounded and not dead.

Thanks for the update on Univision's plans. Suerte is more typical of the 7 pm slot. But it's so far along that it will be hard to catch up if I stick with this time slot. I hate when they play those timing games. They really messed me up with time changes with Hasta que el dinero nos separe.

I love your style, Cheryl. Sorry that this is your last recap for this series. I've enjoyed every minute.

Güera

Re: El Talisman. Cheryl I do plan on watching this and likely recapping it as well. However I've checked my Tivo schedule and TV Guide online and cannot find when it will air.

According to my Tivo Una Familia Con Suerte goes back to two hour shows, 7:00 - 9:00 for at least a week! I don't know if the programming is all screwed up or if they intend to make us wait for El Talisman like they did LQNPA. I'll keep checking and if anyone else hears something please let us know. I'm not very happy about Familia moving into the 7:00 P.M. time slot though. I guess I could handle recapping the 8:00 p.m. show, harrumph!!

I also loved Cheryl's comment about Roberta being in Human Resources. Yes, this is another profession that is not portrayed very nicely in these telenovelas. (Although Honorio could give them a lesson or two.)

Blue Lass, vest made of hamsters, LOL!!

Vivi, I thought I heard Augustin threaten Renata with injections too. That caused the greatest look of horror on her face last night, not being sure how the drugs might affect her baby and all. She probably knows Ughie would be quite happy if she lost her baby.

Güera, I have been watching Familia and the plot moves at a snail's pace. I don't think you will have any trouble catching up with what's going on. I really hate it too when they start moving the programs around. Estupidos!!!

Cheryl, thank you Amiga! You DO indeed have a talent for making awful action understandable, more than tolerable, even fun! Laz and Kari; Jero and Regina both provided two warm fuzzy respites from Ugghie's revolting ranting. Were you joking about miracle redemtion for Roberta? Oh, she gets more hateful every episode. I do think Fina is going to accidentally take her out and this will be part of her punishment. Maybe the writers will horribly disfigure her so she won't be able to befuddle everybody with a wig or a hat again. I, too, wonder how they'll kill off Marina: some rare but deadly complication which also causes the babies to be born early? 4 days to go.

Thank you, Cheryl, you have helped to make this a Super Fun Ride!

Lila

Daisyinjay, you have been such a faithful commenter and so funny I wish you would take up recapping. You already have the quick wit and keen observatons. It's been a pleasure seeing you here so often.

RosemaryLO, you too have been such fun on this Mr. Toad's wild ride. I always appreciate your humor.

And Vivi, oh Vivi, what would we do without you. You are the supreme recapper that isn't even a regular recapper on CME but you have bailed us out countless times. Yes, Jero needs a miracle cure. At least his raw steak face cleared up a lot on the ride home, that was a good makeup job including all the swelling around his eyes is gone. I think Augie and Roberta have had the most fun being more and more evil. Augie is even scary in his unhinged state.

BlueLass, welcome back to the closing week. This should be fun. I feel your frustration of being telenovelaless. It happens to me everytime I go to Mexico where I can get new TN's but lose the ones I was watching at home. At least you can get better on line videos that we can't see here in the States. Jarocha helped me with some sites when I spent a day with her in Mexico City in October.

Karen, It's been a pleasure to see you on tis CME bus so often wiht your snark and snap. The rest of this week should be a foot race to the finish line. There is still so much to be resolved.

vivi, I was wondering why they are still so non-commital on El Talisman only telling us that it is coming soon. I'm not sure if I will jump to new show if it is to be at a different time. I actually enjoy Familia quite a lot and may go with early humor -vs- later evening with sturm und drang

Glad to be back and enjoying the last of CME. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful recaps and comments. I feel I belong to a great community of literary intellectuals (I do use the term loosely) who love the fun of exercising our minds through our emotions.

I settled in to watch CME while in Puerto Rico but to my great chagrin, they were just getting ready to lynch Ezequiel and Chema was still alive--I just couldn't bear it and turned it off.

At long last, the wool has been pulled from Nata's eyes regarding Augie. She'd better be able to do more than pray.

Loved the title Cheryl--I do remember that song, too (I was just a child). Thank you for this one and all the other perfect little essays.

The first LOL was the O S* Sherlock, but followed by...it takes all of them to get him into his room, then..Augie only transmits but doesn't receive and Augie had time to bring great wine on board..and dine on shrimp?

The rest is pretty worrying. Boy, how Roberta can keep on lying with a straight face. I guess she's not afraid of hell.

Gald to be back. Oh, and I added that last Nesmeism to our list. I don't think we'll be hearing from him again so it came to a perfect conclusion--he's irrelevant!
NOK

Cheryl, I haven't started reading your recap yet. I played the Shrimp Boat song first to get in the mood. It's been years since I heard it - perfect for setting the mood. The tune will be in my head while I read your recap. Back later with my comments.

Cheryl - You have been my beacon of light on Tuesday nights as I get home from my Tuff Tuesday, as I call this day of work , and no matter how challenging the day I can keep moving on knowing I have wine and Cheryl's recap ahead. So thank you so much for that and for sharing your photos.

R la O

Cheryl, thanks for a wonderful recap. I especially liked your reference to Jo Stafford's song. I was born in 1947, so don't remember her rendition of it, but it continued to be popular through the early 50's, and I remember it quite well. I thought your suggestion that Roberta go into human resources was a scream. . . maybe in the North Korean Army?

It interests me that many criminals like Fina and Augie think they are expanding their horizens (Augie, any port in the world; Fina, Europe) when in fact they are shrinking them - Augie confined to a boat, Fina living in a flea bag hotel and only able to go out in the rat warrens of Mexico City, or to a jail cell, or to a plot of burial ground.

As if Nata didn't by now know that Augie is a rat, he has to cap it off with the declaration that she is a widow. The look on her face was priceless: "I am viewing pure evil, and you don't know all the facts, you scum bucket."

This has been a wonderful tn, and thanks to all the recappers and all the wonderful comments.

David

Carlos, thanks for sharing your memory of the song and the wonderful shrimp eating. I sometimes think that after a childhood in landlocked Wyoming, I was compelled to spend so many years in Massachusetts because of the access to the supply of fresh seafood.

Yes Marina did look well and in fact much prettier in her lovely dress. It helped convey her new serene state of mind. It was a touching scene. The best scene for me was that Regina and Jero moment. Daisyinjay, I have also always had deep friendships with men that didin't begin or end as romantic episodes. It is nice to see it here as another example of the smart writers who favored nuanced subtleties to deepen character.

Güera, thank you for your kind words. Yes, I signed in relief to know that Anibal was well enough to be mad as hell. He's lucky Melesio wasn't on the detail crew, he would have enjoyed using Anibal's sweet heart as a target. It will be interesting to see if they have him sing so we find out his role in poor Ezekiel's end. They may show him with a tiny drop of human kindness at the end.

And good morning to Lila. Thanks too for your support. I am still so tickled that you jumped into the recapping pool with such bravery resulting in such success.

The thing is, I'm not sure if Nata wouldn't have ended up in the exact same position, even if she never became friends with Augie. He was determined to "have" her from the moment he laid eyes on her wearing that black suit and red bustier at Empresas Monterrubio when he was their client. If she had rebuffed his friendship, he still would have ended up kidnapping her out of frustrated desire. And especially when she got together with his enemy Jero, which was also destined.

NOK and Emilia and David, good morning and thanks for joining us this morning. David, I agree that Roberta better get a plan B, so maybe the North Korean army would be a well deserved choice. Too funny. And I really liked your analysis of Augie and Fina's self image expanding while their real worlds are shrinking. It's really a big part of their problem, isn't it.

RosemaryLO, I am really touched to learn that I brightened your Tuff Tuesdays. I feel so honored.

Well, add me to the list Cheryl...I listened to and sang Shrimp Boats is a Comin' and it will be playing happily in my head all day. Alternating with Candyman by Christina Aguilera which is a different kettle of fish altogether.

Simply supreme sentence:while Augie continues planting RANCID KISSES on her.

Lordy! what an image! However, I wish Renata hadn't batted away that tray of food...you need nourishment when you're pregnant. And who knows when the next tray is coming? or whether it will contain a syringe? I'm sure that's Augie's ideal scenario, ravishing and sniffing an unconscious Renata. Bleccch and then some.

Delightful recap of a disturbing episode. The noble comportment of Marina is a sure as shootin' sign she's destined for an early trip to heaven.

For some reason, I was more put off by Roberta's continued lying and denials last night than I was by Augustin's disgusting behavior. Maybe because I know people who lie like that in real life but haven't had the misfortune of being connected with an Augie. He's way too telenovela for me to take seriously.

Sorry to hear Familia is moving to 7 pm. I just find it horribly boring and, as Sylvia said, the plot moves at a snail's pace. But needs must...7 pm is when I feel like watching TV. Or maybe I'll just liberate myself from the tube, as I keep promising to do.

But not from the recaps. You all are terrific writers and raconteurs. Always worth a read and a comment.

Cheryl, I can't believe you finished your last recap for this tn. What a wild ride! I agree that you make Tuesdays much more fun. Thank you for all your recaps, comments, helpful translations, friendship... You are a black-belt recapper, m'dear.

There were many favorite bits in your recap, but I really loved "Augie only transmits but doesn't receive..." Absolutely spot-on description. Aren't we glad this tn isn't in 3D? We'd all be bruised by Augie's jut jaw!

And, Blue Lass, maybe everybody kept having cases of the stupids because Renata killed all their hamsters for her vest!!

Who else thinks the first thing Jero should do (well, after rescuing Renata...) is get rid of that torture chamber headboard on his bed? Thank goodness Regina let him rest his head on her shoulder. She probably saved him from permanent brain injury.

Word verification - thrus. What somebody will do to Augie with his sword.

Aw, Cheryl, you are the sweetest. I'm afraid my language skills at this point are just this side of mediocre. Most days I'm grabbing 65-70% of dialog. You guys would be getting one weird translation with me handling things. But I'll keep working on my skill set- who knows, one day maybe I'll get there!

OMG, I kept trying to make the jeringes from syringes into a phrase I found in the Oxford Spanish Dict. into a slang phrase from Mexico. I was in such a hurry, it didn't soak in that he is ready to use drugs to direct her behavior. Thanks to Vivi, JudyB and others for that lightbulb turned on. I need to go back to my recording. Everyone's speech was so uzzi blasting fast, I couldn't get it all. eeeewwww, I know Augie is looking for an excuse to snuff Jero's offspring but that is callous. He already doesn't care if he has to kill Renata to make her submit to him. That is totally creepy, macabre.

Cheryl: Thank you so much for your awesome recapping. As a newbie, they have helped me out a lot. Incidentally, how many TNs do I have to watch to be catergorized as a vet? This is my third one.

Auggie trying to kiss Nata had me so disgusted. He's the type that would rape her while she's unconscious. And I agree about Roberta, the continuing lying thing makes her a sociopath.

Watched the new TN last night. Prissbutt is in it.

Robey

I don't watch this one,but I was stalking the comments and I'm dying to know: Who is Prissbutt (since I am watching the new one.)

Great recap! I am still kicking, beating and berating myself for not watching this one.

Robey, I think finishing one tn makes you a vet.

Roberta really doesn't know where Renata is. I loved the way everyone is assuming that she is holding back info -- when in fact she doesn't HAVE the info. She didn't even tell Ugghie that Nata was returning to Baja. He assumed that was her destination. It's one of those "boy who called wolf" scenarios.

Cheryl, I loved your description of Auggie --The old sniffer is at work, preferring his women unconscious. It’s like old times. -- He is too creepy for words. Nata was certainly taken aback when Auggie threatened to drug her. The first thought that went through my head was what would that do to the baby -- was that her thought too?

I fear that you are all correct about Marina. Her noble behavior in this episode and the previews which show everyone at her bedside proying for her to pull through make it look like she may have a saintly death. If that's what they have in mind I hope the writers save those twins. I really liked the way Marina closed the circle of the plot by saying that she wanted her twins to know and respect Nata & Jero's child so that their children would never know the pain of a relationship like that between Renata and her sister.

The previews also do seem to let us in on the fate of Roberta & Fina. With or without last minute redemption for Berta???

Güera

Hey Sara! The pretty actress playing the humble maid at the hacienda in No Podia (we only a glimpse of her last night) is Priscila in CME-- a character who has been giving our own humble maid in CME's hacienda a hard time. Maybe this is her karmic punishment-- to be a humble maid in her next telenovela life. :)

Judy - of course Roberta's lying would get to you a lot given that horrid ex friend of yours who blamed you for making him lie. Roberta was blaming everyone else for not believing her.

Ha! Priscila's punishment is to be a maid. Love it. And I like the idea of Roberta in human resources. She'd save the company a fortune sinco no one would dare make a claim against the company if they had to talk to her.

And I liked the vest until Blue Lass mentioned the hamsters. Now I can only see a bunch of poor little Herschels (childhood pet). But if anyone can wear hamsters well, it's Renata. And I thought the injections were to "take care of" the pregnancy. What would he do about that if he were to live long enough (which we know he won't unless it's as a fencing school dummy)?

Can someone explain the word cínico to me? I got that it means cynic (or however that's spelled) but they seem to use in place of um, "jerk" let's say? Renata used it on Augie last night and I'm sure she must have meant something a little stronger than cynic.

Kelly

Cheryl, thanks so much; your recap really put the cheer in my Cheerios this morning. Well, I didn't eat Cheerios, but anyway. I loved all the witty bits everyone has been mentioning.

Creepy as he was, I actually enjoyed watching Ughie stop pretending and just let his psycho flag fly, and Renata's reaction to this. This actor is doing a bang-up job of playing a truly unhinged freak.

Well, Ughi has to fall asleep sometime...Renata just needs to wait, then get her hands on those syringes and make sure his beauty sleep isn't disrupted.

SO relieved Anibal isn't dead, just injured...again. Is he the new Carlos, as well as the Laz-in-Training?

Wait a minute, Roberta might not know exactly where Renata is, but she knows that Augustin has her and she refused to divulge that little detail, so she's still holding back some very important information. But of course no way will she reveal that now so I guess I'm splitting hairs here.

Kelly, we have struggled with the translation of cínico because it definitely does not seem to mean "cynic" as we use it in English. In Spanish it seems to mean something more along the lines of shameless (doing something and feeling no shame whatsoever), selfish, self-serving. If you look up Cynicism on Wikipedia and check out the paragraph Origin of the Cynic Name I think you will get a better idea of what the translation from Spanish might be. Your sense that "jerk" is an appropriate translation is a good one.

Kelly- cínico/a is used a lot in these tns and definitely has a harsher meaning than cynic does in English. It seems to be the equivalent of calling someone a "hypocritical, heartless jerk"- that's what I get from the context in which it's always used.

Julia- I think Augie was also very happy to not have to pretend, and getting to let his freak flag fly.

Cheryl:

Thank you for a TN run full of wonderful recaps. I have truly enjoyed all of your wonderful translations and witty words. I am willing to recap for the new TN on Tuesdays, and hope to share duties with Lila, if she continues on recapping.

The time changing thing makes me crazy. Like Sylvia, I could recap at 8:00 PM but I prefer the 7 PM time slot. Sadly, I don't love Familia, the plot is too slow for me and I have a hard time understanding/interpreting the slang.

It sure has been a pleasure hanging out with you guys.

EJ

Yes, I know Roberta doesn't know the exact location of Auggie but.....and maybe I'm mixed up but I also thought Roberta was still denying, to her father anyway, that she'd had an affair with Augustin. That just really annoyed me.

And Rosemary la Otra, oh yeah..I'm sure my past experience is part of why I hate dishonesty. Plus to me, it symbolizes cowardice. If you're gonna do it, fine...but own up to it. Don't lie. (Evidently politicians NEVER take this advice.)

Oh I had no idea how Augustine met Renata - I guess in the early days of this TN I missed a lot of episodes because it was so frustrating trying to figure out what was going on. So thanks to whoever said they met at the office.

I hate that this is now going at warp speed - so after tonight there's only three more episodes left. How will Jero heal; Nata be recued; Roberta and Fina get what's coming to them, in just 4 more hours?

I'll miss you all - won't be watching the new one at 8.

Mary

JudyB, very true that Roberta never admitted her affair to Gonzo. She has become a master of deflecting those questions. When he told her Adri told them of her affair her response was "how can you say those things to me?" So basically a non-answer which is absolutely a lie. I find the more furious people become when they are challenged the more likely they are to be lying.

Oh hell yes, Augie and Roberta have the most fun in these doomed days. Icky factor aside, they are both doing a bang up job of acting. Flying his freak flag freely! Let's hear it for open psychopaths. On the other hand I agree with Judy that denying and lying are a strong form of cowardice.

ElnaJune, I hope you and/or you and Lila continue your recapping. What a gift you both are to all of us. If you are reading the messages from Melinama on time and TN changes, I have just opted to stay on the early showing so will begin recapping Familia next Monday. I will react with great enthusiasm to No Podia and El Talisman which both look interesting.

My other activity for meeting 2012 goals with mi español will be to begin attending El paisano, an Albuquerque based division of Toastmasters so I can learn to stand and deliver speeches and talks en español.

Next to enter more photo competitions again in 2012 as I began in 2011, here are the results from the December camera club exhibition.

Guau Cheryl, I'm impressed with your 2012 goals. Good luck with them both.

I was thinking during that sweet scene between Jeronimo & Regina that I don't remember when & how they became friends. I know that they have known each other a long time and that he has been a major financial supporter of Regina's Center. But does anyone remember where they met? (It's not that important to the plot -- it's just nagging at me.)

Güera

Cheryl, congratulations on placing! What a stunning photograph. I think I have only seen your nature shots so far so this one, the colors, the moment frozen in time, were wildly surprising and superb. Well done amiga! You are so talented, I'm glad you plan to do more in 2012. And you are very brave to start attending the spanish-speaking toastmasters. I know you are quite fluent but wow, I am so impressed.

Guera- I seem to remember Regina saying at some point that Jero's father used to be a big donor to her center and Jero took over donating after his father passed away. So I'm guessing she met him through his father when he was a young man/teen, soon after she started up her center.

Wow Cheryl. That photo is spectacular. You should be on the cover of magazines m'dear.

And really impressed that you're going to be speechifying in español. I'm comfortable giving speeches in English, and I once auditioned for a singing class in French, but that's it for me. I'm still at "Dónde esta el baño?" when it comes to Spanish.

I noticed I had a few irregular items left in the CME Emporium. This is it. Doors Closing.

> White linen overblouses in ladies' sizes only, with a 'Jero is My Hero' patch, tastefully stitched over the left breast

> My current flannels have trailers and pink flamingos on them, but Nata's red plaid with black velvet pockets look much classier

> Initialed trowels to go with Adriana #1 Pink Eyeshadow packets

> Extensive line of beautiful white vendimia outfits (with sewn in velcro 6” from the bottom so they can be reused—saves having to dye the whole outfit)

> Matilde line of headbands. Even if strategically placed, not guaranteed to hide any grey; more likely to hide forehead wrinkles

> Mati's peasant dresses with corset, I would love one for the Renaissance Faire

> Garniner dark circle eraser that Renata plugged a few times in the beginning. ( I actually purchased one--works fine)

> I would like to order a case of shiny hair gloss that all the TN women seem to use.

> Large stone balls, for your staircase to be featured in the home decor section (They come graduated for that distance perspective you might prefer, or two the same size which can be strategically placed side-by-side for maximum enjoyment)

> Special 50/50 raffle item: Manuela will come to your house, cook for a family of three adults one of her fabulous meals and finish it off with one of those sweet hugs of hers.

> Where is Jero?? I want a “Where's Jero” tee shirt.

> Ensenada version of Spy vs. Spy game

> Replacements for lost dice

> I thought that brown velvet track suit [of Fina's] looked so comfy. It looks like what I wear for the most part, only I don't have velvet yet. Santa? (Note from Santa—we’re out of brown velvet, how about an off the shoulder red velvet number w/ white furry trim)—Pardon, this number has been withdrawn, Mrs. Santa still wears it.

> I Heart Gonzo's New P.I. shirt

> Did anyone come up with a T-shirt "Justice for Zeke”

> Introductory coupon for shampoo, cut & hairstyling at the Mas O Menos Muy Fina Beauty Salon

NOK

NOK, I'm ready to purchase 10 raffle tickets for Manuela's Meal-N-Hug special. I'll even volunteer to slice the squash.

Even though Fina did a great job on her own locks I'm reluctant to let her stand behind me with scissors. I think I'll pass on that one.

Great list!!

Sylvia, I was goin' for Manuela's dinner also. Reckon she'll be willing to come all the way to the east coast? I agree with you about Fina cutting hair. NEVER turn your back on a psychopath bearing sharp pointy objects!

NOK, thanks for the closeout sale. I'll take the Where's Jero shirt and add "Oh, there he is!" underneath! Thanks for all your lists. What fun!

Word ver: spinglep - sounds good but what does it mean?

Spinglep: This novela is spinglepping towards the finish.

I wanted that dinner too, but maybe I'll go for the white vendimia outfit plus one headband. I may try to make it down there next year and I want to be prepared.

Kelly

Word ver. Taing. Taing! This is almost over.

Oh for heaven's sake, mi Reina, "spinglep" is that noise you make when you first get up in the morning. Usually hot tea helps. We've talked about this. (The rest of you may wish to duck now lest you become collateral damage when the iron skillet swingeth.)

Cheryl, thank you thank you thank you thank you ! Not for just today but for all the CME recaps and especially for taking such good care of Emilia and me when we were out your way in October. And I'm sure you'll ace the test at the El Paisano course! You seemed quite comfortable chatting w/ that nice couple from Monterrey.

Was anyone else aghast at Agustin partaking of vino rojo w/ SHRIMP??? Is there some reason that a nice chilled Chablis was not to be had???

NOK, glad to see the initialed tRowel available, but suspect Televisa will snatch that up. You know, as cute as the Adriana actress is - really, with those little girl cheeks she oughta be on the label of Campbell's soup - she has a heavy hand with the henna. Que pena...

And the shrimp boat song, Cheryl! Too cool. Haven't thought about that one for a long time. Never knew the singer's name. Thank you! Unlike Carlos, shrimp boats never made it up the Mississippi and Ohio to northern Kentucky. But like Cheryl in Boston, I can make up for it here. Had some lovely, plump York River oysters and scallops last week.

David, 1947 here also. I figured you and I were close in age. Boomers, Aquarians, whatever.

Looks like it'll be a bomb ride (Strangelove reference) for the next four nights. This has been a truly good TN, IMHO.

Thanks to Emilia, Mike, NOK, Robey and Sara (did I leave anyone out?) for joining in the comments on the last week of adventure with CME and thanks to all of you who are so supportive of my photography efforts. I love waking up and thinking about photography instead of other more pressing problems. It is a true joy for me. I have just begun to do people shots again after years and years of not doing many.

wow, EJ!! just read your tuesday night summary. LOVED the cop show air on the storytelling... not sure how i will be able to match the excitement on it... but will give it a try.

can someone tag EJ's recap for tuesday night? i dont see it listed so had to comment here.

Thanks Marta. I just tagged it.
