Cuando Me Enamoro #179 Tuesday 1/3/12 HEADLINE! THREE AMATUER COMMANDOS ACCEPT MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ASSIGNMENT

-->
Dateline: Ensenada, Mexico
Present time: Preantepenultimate Episode
Live Feed to Caray Caray Newswire

Jeronimo Linares, Matias Monterubbio and Anibal Linares have accepted the apparently impossible assignment of attempting to rescue Renata de Gamba Monterubbio de Linares from a shrimp boat off the Pacific coast of Mexico. Renata, 24 and pregnant with her first child, was kidnapped yesterday by a gang of several men in a terrifying ambush on the road from Tijuana airport to Ensenada. According to eyewitnesses, the attack left Renata drugged and taken by unknown henchmen to a waiting shrimp-boat trolling in International waters off the Baja California Coast.
Anibal, the young driver of the vehicle in which Renata was riding was dragged from the truck and shot in the leg with an automatic weapon. Two other young women known as Alison (a minor) and Adriana were terrorized by the kidnappers but left unharmed.

Shockingly, television cameras were actually able to catch the live action as it happened on board the Buenaventura VI shrimp boat. The wood-hulled Buenaventura VI, valued at three and a half million pesos, measures 98 feet in length and has an output of 300 horsepower. She has a huge freezer for storing shellfish.

Renata was delivered unconscious to the boat where wanted fugitive Augustin Dunant was waiting on-board. Dunant, who is suspected of involvement in multiple dirty-dealings and homicides, received her unconscious form with an unwelcome kiss and had her placed below decks in a small cabin. Upon awakening, Renata found herself in a lower bunk of an unfamiliar and smelly boat but she was unbound and able to make her way around the cabin, exploring possible means of escape. There were none.

Miraculously, as Renata explored her prison she discovered a plastic sleeve enclosed image of the La Virgen de Guadalupe taped underneath the top bunk of the cabin and after multiple plaintive “Por Favors” the Virgin answered Sra Linares’ prayers. and, back on-shore, the rescue mission was planned and put in place.
The hastily made plan appeared simple but was complicated in its execution. Monterubbio, stepbrother of the kidnapped woman, Linares, and Anibal Linares, the young driver who was injured in the ambush and the natural son of Dunant, all took part in both the surveillance and active operations of the attempted rescue. In addition to Anibal’s leg wound Linares went into he rescue effort injured—with a battered appearing face and probable broken ribs due to an earlier attack by Dunant’s henchmen. Some at Televisa questioned Linares’ fitness for the role, but as the main protagonist in this telenovela, the job was his to refuse.. Presumably, Linares’ ribs were taped-up by his ex-lover, Marina, a physician who is also pregnant with twins by Linares.

Back on the Buenaventura VI, as Augustin Dunant is moving in on Renata he is observed drawing air sharply into his nose with a sort of “sniff”. According to Dr. Elna Jung Freud, a psychologist who has never treated Dunant, Augustin may have a serious problem with cocaine abuse or, more likely, may be suffering from “snifferous odorus underwearus” an inevitably fatal form of obsessive-compulsive disorder focused on Renata Linares.

In addition to his obsessive relationship with Sra Linares, Sr Dunant is also obsessed with his fencing swords. Sure enough, Augustin has thought to bring a pair of these aboard the Buenaventura VI, fencing being such a common activity performed on ones shrimp boat.
File by your girl reporter on the scene, EJ.

Our reporters were also covering the action on shore at the Hacienda La Bonita. The Kitchen Cabinet of La Bonita—Laz, Kari, Manuela, Mati, and Alfonsina—were convened. All want to find out about Renata—and they want to know the truth abut what happened to Ezekiel. Just at that moment Melesio is brought in (unwillingly) to the living room at La Bonita. The Kitchen Cabinet runs into la sala to see a shocked Melesio as he is confronted a bruised but still standing Jero! Jero asks if Melesion is surprised to see him alive. All in the room confront Melesio about Augustin’s dirty plans—Where is Augustin holding Renata??? Alfonsina said he has Renata on a ship. Gonzo, Matias and Regina chime in to tear Mel a new one. Regina just wants him to tell her where her daughter is! Melesio claims he doesn’t know. Of course no one believes him and they retrieve his cell phone from his pocket—this is how he communicates with Auguie. There is a ray of hope! Melesio finally says that he is supposed to get some documents to Augustin so he can leave the country. Lazaro takes Melesio out and secures him while Jero to Regina that he will find Renata.

On board the Buenaventura VI nights falls as Regina prays desperately for help in her cabin while Augue enjoys a self-congratulatory glass of wine on the deck of the ship.
Next day, en la sala, the handsome investigator has something new to tell the group. There is a boat that Dunant may be on (I am still going to call it the Buenaventura VI). However pinpointing the location of the boat may be very difficult. And another problem! When the boat is international waters nothing can be done by the Mexican police. It looks like our heroes may have to go commando and take matters into their own hands.

Out in the barn, where Melesio is being held, Lazaro is interrogating him when Alfonsina saunters in dressed in her high boots and camisole dominatrix outfit. Melesio, that lying dog, claims he knows nothing about Ezekiel’s demise. Alfonsina (whom I suspect may have worked her way through Ag University as a part-time guide to S&M) screams “Habla!” as she slaps Melesio hard across the face. Seeing Alfonsina’s avenging fury and knowing that she is armed with testimony from Dr. Nesme, Melesio spills the beans. He claims he-himself-personally didn’t have anything to do with Zeke’s death, but Don Augustin witnessed everything. Everyone is muy impactada.

Jero is in the living room with Regina, Adri, Matias and Gonzo when the guys and Alfonsina drag in Melesio in the house. Jero plans on contacting his ‘folks’ in Ensenada and in the Cost Guard to find Augustin and Renata. The investigator takes his leave. Now Laz tells Jero that Melesio confessed that Ezekiel was murdered by Augustin. Alfonsina explains that ‘Zeke knew many things’ (about Augustin’s behavior) and for this he was murdered. Jere, who still has Melesio’s phone in his shirt pocket sees that at this very moment Augustin is calling. He tells Mel to take the call and not give anything away. Augustin confirms that he is sending his guys to meet Mel and get the documents he is expecting to Pier Five on the embarcadero in Ensenada in two hours.

But wait! Our cameras on board the Buenaventura VI caught the action between Sra. Linares and her captor, Sr Dunant. When Dunant came to Sra Linares cabin he asked her why she had not changed clothes. She asked why she would change and Dunant answered, “For me! So that you always look beautiful. Look, here is your favorite perfume.” He sniffs the bottle and tosses it on the bed. Renata, with a disgusted look on her face throws the dresses back in Dunant’s face. “Enough of your tantrums!” Dunant tells Renata. “You will put them on!” “What if I don’t want to (change)?” asks a still defiant Renata! “Do not force me, my love!” screams Dunant. “You will not like it, not later!” he threatens.

On shore in Ensenada, Jero has contacted the Coast Guard and they think they can track and locate Augustin’s boat with their GPS systems. Jeronimo, the handsome Inspector, Gonzo, and Matias, set up a system to spy on Melesio as he receives docs in a manila envelope. They check out the docs and see that Augustin is pretending that Renata is his wife!

Carlos and Anibal meet Jero and Matias on the dock as a small motorboat comes in to dock. When they tell Carlos and Anibal what is going on Anibal proclaims, “My father has no limits!” Melesio meets the launch coming in from the sea and gives the sailors Augustin’s documents (passports). They get back in the launch and had out to the shrimp boat after making sure they have everything. But wait! Our cameras caught sight of Anibal stowing away on the little launch. O my!

On board Buenaventura VI, Auguie is drinking wine as Renata comes in dressed in the new red silk dress. She asks Augustin to let her go. He says no. She tells him she hates him—he says he prefers her hatred to her indifference. When he steps out of the room for a moment Renata sees the telephone left on the table, tries to make a call and gets only a voice mailbox. Augustin, hearing the phone beep, comes back into the room, grabs Renata, turns her around and gives her a tremendous slap across the face. “You are not going to leave my side”, he says. “Then kill me”, says Renata.

Auguie’s henchmen sailors go back to the Buenaventura VI to take the passports back to Augustin. Augustin comes back into the galley and asks a ragged-looking Renata, “Perdoname.” But Renata is not happy and she walks away from Dunant holding her belly. Back on the embarcadero Jero sends Carlos, Gonzo and the dirtbag Melesio to the authorities where Melesio is told to spill his guts. Matias and Jero meet with the Coast Guard authorities who invite them to go on the coast guard boat to locate the Buenaventura VI and Dunant.

Meanwhile Renata grasps on to her sweet memories of Jero. “All will be well”, she tells the baby in her belly and herself as she puts her face in her hands. She continues to hold her belly as the coast guard guys speed toward the shrimp boat.

Augustin is back in Renata’s cabin telling her that, “Now we start our new life as husband and wife as he fondles the false passports. He tries to kiss Renata and she turns away with a mumbled, “Don’t touch me.” After examining the passport Renata says that she is not Fina’s daughter nor is she Augustin’s wife, when she spots Anibal behind Augustin! QTH! After seeing Anibal Renata tries to distracts Augustine by apologizing to Dunant while Anibal hides somewhere in the engine room of the boat. Anibal begins pulling apart wires to damage the boat’s engine. After a very short time Anibal is caught in the engine room by a sailor—O no!

Now Jero and Matias pull on wet suits (trajas de neopreno) leave the Coast Guard vessel and board a tiger-striped tiny zodiac boat to come toward the Buenaventura. Meanwhile, while Augustin is babbling to Renata about how they are going to travel the world, Anibal is dragged by the accosting sailor in front of Augustin and Renata. Anibal, in the manner of most teenagers, chooses this inopportune time to confront Augustin in front of Renata with the news that he has proof that Augustin tried to get his Mother to abort him. Renata is appalled but as this very moment the Coast Guard calls and tells Augustin’s crew that they have them located on GPS. Augustin orders the crew to make for international waters as sailors drag Renata and Anibal up onto the deck. Augustin grabs a sword —one of a pair he happens to have hanging in the galley.

Jero and Matias jump off the Zodiac about a half-mile from the Buenaventura VI, and swim toward to shrimp boat while Auguie menaces Anibal with the saber he is now wielding. Impulsively, Anibal picks this time to confront Augustin about how he treated Ani’s mom, with the info that he has the check signed by Auguie for a abortion. Renata is witness to all of this. Auguie screama at Anibal and cuts his face with the tip of the sword while Jero and Matias, reach the deck of the shrimp boat after their long swim (QTH) by climbing the anchor chain. Pretty slick commando behavior, I say. Jero comes upon a bad guy trying to attack Matias and tips him overboard. Good guys one, bad guys minus one but Anibal and Renata are still in BIG trouble.

Renata pleads for Anibal’s life while Auguie slowly stabs Anibal in the chest with a sword. Matias locks several bad guys in the engine room and then fights with the captain while Augie spies Jeronimo as he calls out “Dunant!” Augustin attacks the unarmed Jero him with his blade.

Renata remembers the second hanging sword in the galley, grabs it and runs to give the sword to Jero. Anibal is now attacked by a bad guy with a gun, whom Matias then tips overboard. Matias is the real commando here; he is everywhere at once!

Augustin chases Jero and strikes him two blows—one in the right front shoulder where he had the ugly injury from being beaten nearly to death by Auguies’s bad guys. As he tries to escape Dunant, Jero is dealt a terrible slash on the back of his right shoulder. Renata reaches Jero and gives him the second sword. Jero and Augie continue to fight. There is nothing romantic about this sword fight. Jero looks like he is having a hard time holding on to the grip of his sword as the fighters thrust and parry, advance and retreat while Jero bleeds copiously from his various wounds. Augustin is clearly the better fighter here and he is not injured. Soon he scores a terrible sword slash that knocks the sword from Jero’s hand. Augustin shoves his thumb into Jero’s right shoulder wound and Jero drops his sword. Augustin goes in for the kill but Jero recovers his sword and begins fighting left-handed! .” Matias nurses a smashmouth from several violent hand-to-hand fights and watches helplessly as across the boat Augustin’s stunt-double jumps up and with a tremendous martial arts high-kick to Jeronimo’s jaw knocks him to the ground.

Jero falls to his knees in front of an insane Auguie who raises his sword overhead as if he is going to smash a helpless watermelon or decapitate the now-helpless Jeronimo Linares. Renata pleads, “Augustin, Augustin”, as the sword heads in on a perfect arc for Jero’s neck.

Cue the music. “Cuando me enamoro…” Yep, that’s where they left us. Lordy, lordy is this a cliff-hangar.

The avances are the same as they have been the last couple of days. I’m not going to talk about them because they are too close to being spoilers!

Good morning, all. Sorry about the crummy spacing and typos in the recap. I am still trying to master the posting process.

What an exciting epi! I am exhausted just from recapping and I didn't even have to fight with swords.

Enjoy!

EJ

Elna June, my oh my you really outdid yourself tonight. I love your alter ego girl reporter persona. You were totally in charge of tonight's events. And wow, what an episode!! I am still hyped up and it is midnight. I hope I can sleep.

My honey does not thank you for “snifferous odorus underwearus”, as I laughed so loudly I awoke him in the next room. I, however, thank you profusely because I know a huge explosive laugh is good for the soul.

Creepiest moment for me was when Augustin told Renata he preferred her hate to indifference, hate being one of the great passions. Gah, kudos to those who claimed he enjoyed flying his freak flag. The dude is seriously damaged. I suspected he might eventually physically abuse Renata but I kept hoping he would refrain. Guess not. His character followed form with his contrite and tearful apology that she drove him to it. That whole scene seemed uncomfortably real.

Biggest hooray moment was when dominatrix Alfonsina slapped the, ahem, truth out of Melesio. I thought of our own Doctor Carlos, how proud of her he would be, and cheered her on.

Que the hell was with the Coastie's tiger-striped zodiac? Can't say I've ever seen that before. And what was with that olympic swim to the shrimp boat? I agree with your incredulity. Matias maybe, injured Jero no way. Unless of course he is compelled by LOVE. Looks like I'd better put my magic beanie on for the rest.

I found the commando fight scenes very enjoyable. Hee, loved your comment about the stunt doubles because of course THEY WERE, but they were very good too. Matias finally got to vent all his pent up anger, about time. I literally gasped at tonight's conclusion. They left us hanging with that???

OMG, EJ! I can't find all the words to describe how wonderful this recap was. Superb, Fantastic, Imaginative, Hysterical...Take a well-deserved bow, one of the best recaps I've ever read!!!

The best: "“snifferous odorus underwearus”. I just let out a big EWWWWWW and scared the cat when he left Nata in that one scene, but not after taking a big whiff. Gawd!

Now I've got the Mission:Impossible theme again firmly planted in my brain. These guys have nothing on Tom Cruise. I was on the edge of my seat last night-I was hugging everyone's tees for comfort. Anibal, bless him, that kid has been trained well in his new Superman role. But I was so worried he was still going to be fish food. I think I stopped breathing there for a minute as Nutjob moved in with the sword on him.

As for Jero--backstroked to the ship, easier onthe breathing, then has to pull himself up the anchor rope--yeah, I parked the beanie a bit. But they didn't exactly show him in fine fiddle against Auggie--but of course we know how this battle plays out, but what fun!

And Matias--yeah, Sylvia he worked out his anger issues. But I also was thinking, now you made up for all the jerky behavior early in this TN. These three are definitely going to be the walking wounded for quite awhile. (And poor Anibal-Auggie deserves a special place in hell for scarring that handsome young face.)

So one villian will most likely meet his demise tonight, and that leaves two nights to deal with Fina and Berta. Let the good times roll.

I hope to catch up and read the last week's recaps shortly so I sincerely thank all of the recappers for what I am sure are marvelous recaps in advance.

EJ, I did not see this but your recaps was sensational. I am truly sorry I missed this episode. I was riveted to your "storyline", and hung on every word. "the young driver who was injured in the ambush and the natural son of Dunant, all took part in both the surveillance and active operations of the attempted rescue" was a perfect description and conveyed all of the high action that ensued. I love that you infused your sensational humor “snifferous odorus underwearus” an inevitably fatal form of obsessive-compulsive disorder" - simnply great.

It's obvious Sylvia and daisy enjoyed your recap as much as I did.

I am looking forward to one of our heroes vanquishing Augie (one down) and as daisy noted, onto Berta and Fina. I suspect none will survive and I don't expect any tears will shed on their accounts.

Diana

Oh EJ! You outdid yourself amiga. I love the news report format! Perfect for this crazy episode. It was so much fun! It reminded me a a Highlander episode-- men fighting with swords, exotic isolated locale, pretty girl in a sexy dress, and a (attempted) beheading! Your report also sounded like a "Watcher" recording all the doings of the "Immortals." Well done amiga.

Jero held his own pretty well, despite his injuries. (My beanie was happily and firmly in place for the fight and the swim.) Can't wait to see how he manages to not lose his head.

Augie just got worse and creepier by the second last night, didn't he? All that sniffing and the slap and threats. If he was already using violence after only 2 days, imagine how much things would have escalated over the course of weeks or months. I have no doubt that he would have eventually raped Nata, and hurt her badly in the struggle. Blech!

Very original Elna June...loved your Brenda Starr routine (are you too young to remember that character?) and your description of Alfonsina's garb :"high heels camisole dominatrix outfit" was spot on. Was I hallucinating last night or did her camisole change from green to pink when they changed rooms? Couldn't decide if it was an editing glitch or I'd taken too much Advil for my head cold.

My big laugh of the night was when Jero jumped in the water and started swimming through choppy waters to the boat. No way...even inspired by AMOR. But who cares? if I wanted grim reality I could watch the news. Thanks for the "trajas de neopreno" by the way.

They had Renata looking bedraggled and very sexy last night...just the way Augie likes his women evidently. I agree with Sylvia that the hard slap to the face and then the groveling apology is very typical of abusers. She would be in for a very rough life indeed if Jero and Matias didn't rescue her.

Kudos for another crackling recap Elna June Freud. Much fun.

So yesterday evening, after thouroughly enjoying the exciting episode, I thought back to how we got to this point with our main couple after almost 180 episodes. They've been through a lot! I played one of my memory games and was able to outline a timeline of the relationship between Jero and Nata in 20 turning points:

1) Jero and Nata crash into each other in the D.F. airport and are instantly drawn to each other. This is not long after her 24th b-day. Around this time, her step-brother Matias (who has lived in Spain these many years without coming home) returns to Mexico. Their childhood crush turns into an adult crush and soon they are dating. Also around this time, she meets Augie, a client of her company, who is instantly smitten with her.
2) Jero and Nata continue to run into each other and their attraction continues to grow. During this time she gives him a false name (Adriana), his brother dies, he swears revenge on “La Bonita”, and then he finds out Nata is the girlfriend/step-sister of his friend Matias, that her real name is Renata, and that there is a good chance that it is she, and not her sister Roberta (whom he has been dating secretly), who is La Bonita. He is confused by his attraction to Nata, and his plans for revenge. She is confused by her attraction to him, and her sense of loyalty to Matias.
3) Jero and Nata decide they can’t fight the attraction any more. She breaks up with Matias and makes herself totally vulnerable to Jero. He continues to hide the truth from her, while also continuing to fall hard for her, but at the same time also feeding his hate for La Bonita. Matias and the MR family find out about Nata’s “betrayal” and she resigns from the company, leaves her home, and commits to Jero. He woos her majorly while continuing to lie and tell half truths about his life (including that he lost all his money).
4) Jero proposes, Nata accepts, despite her family’s objections and concerns. She decides to go off to Ensenada to live with Jero, whom she believes is flat broke. Despite this, and other obvious signs of unconditional love, Jero continues to “test” Nata to see if she is La Bonita. Despite all proof to the contrary, he continues to be confused. He then becomes certain she is “the one” when her evil mother tells him so. He continues with the marriage plans in order to get revenge.
5) Nata nearly calls the wedding off when Jero’s obsessed ex-girlfriend tries to stop the wedding. Realizing he might lose her for real, Jero sincerely declares his love and convinces her to marry him. He continues to let these feelings of love take over during their wedding night when they make love for the first time. Unfortunately, Nata mentions his brother during the afterglow and Jerko grows cold. He decides he cannot make love to her again because it makes him lose control and focus. He also feels extremely guilty about being with his brother’s woman. He abandons Nata at Adri’s mother’s funeral and makes her travel to the hacienda alone to meet him after.
6) Jero turns into Jerko permanently in the hacienda- making Nata sleep in the guest room, having angry fits, accusing her of things she has no idea about, having major jealousy snits about Augie, and then turning briefly tender and romantic at times when he senses Nata is about to dump his ass. This continues up till Nata’s heart attack-induced, nearly fatal, car accident. She decides to live with Augie while recuperating.
7) Nata and Jero declare a truce to save face when her family makes a surprise visit, and pretend to have a happy marriage. They let wine and passion take them and make love for the second time.
8) Nata digs to get to the bottom of why Jero is acting like a crazy jerk. She learns bits of the Rafa story little by little, making her vacillate between caring understanding, and confused anger at Jero. When she finds out the whole truth of the “suicide” and that Jero thinks she is La Bonita and that he married her for revenge, she shows him evidence of her innocence, and leaves him for good, throwing her wedding bands at him.

Jero-Nata Timeline:
9) Just before she leaves Ensenada, a hurricane strikes and Jero is swept away by a raging river right before her eyes. She stays long enough to nurse him to life and health and leaves for D.F. to unmask Berta and start divorce proceedings (civil and religious). Jero follows Nata to the D.F., only to get screamed at and slapped around by her and her family. Jero is miserable (and realizes he was a big stupid jerk), and Nata is miserable. They both cry a lot.
10) Berta flings herself down the stairs, accuses Nata, and fakes the date of her miscarriage. Jero is supportive of Nata and sticks by her side, but Nata is still too angry to forgive him, plus he may be the daddy of her sis’s miscarried baby.
11) Nata goes to Ensenada briefly to try to prove Berta’s innocence after she is accused of Rafa’s murder. She and Jero have a mini-reconciliation and they make love in the tree of love. He thinks they’ve fixed things; she is still needs more time to heal and leaves. They both cry a lot.
12) Jero decides to win Nata back by wooing her aggressively. He also secretly saves her family’s company from financial ruin. The wooing and the generous gesture work. Nata can’t fight her feelings anymore and they decide to meet for a date. Unfortunately, the cops are after Nata and her father and Augie spirit her away, without her phone, to Augie’s hacienda to hide. NO ONE is to know where she is or why she’s there, not even Jero.
13) Jero is devastated that Nata ditched him without a word. He becomes pissed when he receives divorce papers. He loses it when he finds Nata is secretly living with Augie and assumes they are lovers. Out of spite, he lets the attraction he feels for Dr. Marina turn into a relationship, with public kissing (and one sexual encounter). Nata gets pissed about this and accepts Augie’s crazy proposal of marriage. She only lets him kiss her once. Jero and Nata continue to act like crazy jealous people for a while.
14) Jero gives Nata proof that Berta lied about him being her baby-daddy. They go to D.F. together to unmask Berta (again). Nata finds out that Jero’s help to her company was even more generous than she thought. They both acknowledge the love/respect they have for each other, leave the rancorous feelings behind, and wish each other well. They are both sad.
15) Jero finds out Fina was behind Rafa’s murder, everyone finds out about Fina’s other crimes, and Berta has a major heart attack. Jero is by Nata’s side through all these trials, providing a strong shoulder. They both decide they can’t continue in their rebound relationships. Jero dumps Marina. Nata makes a date to dump Augie.
16) Nata finds out that although Fina treated her like crap her whole life, and pampered Berta, it is actually Berta who is the real daughter of Gina. Jero is there for her after this painful revelation, and they finally decide to make up for good with a whole night and morning of lovemaking.
17) Nata breaks up with Augie and finds out Marina is pregnant. She confirms this with Marina, tells Jero the truth, and they decide to confront this new challenge together as a united team. It is not easy for either of them, particularly Nata. They have up and down days around the subjects of Marina, her pregnancy, and Nata’s past and continued relationship with Augie. But they don’t let these things separate them.

Timeline:
18) Fina nearly kills Gonzo and Gina. Jero supports Nata through their hospitalization and her mother’s criminal trial. They work to reverse the annulment proceedings for their religious marriage.
19) Their religious marriage is declared valid and they decide to renew their civil marriage. On the day of their civil wedding, Jero disappears and it is made to look like he abandoned Nata for Marina. Nata vacillates between disbelief, anger, grief, and deep sadness, made more profound by the new knowledge that she is pregnant. She returns to D.F. to forget Jero and to raise her baby alone. She cries a LOT.
20) Upon finding out Jero did not leave her for Marina, Nata works to find him. Just before they reunite, she is kidnapped by Augie. Jero works to find and rescue her.

Wow Vivi. Your memory is just astounding. And I know darn well you could do the same kind of timeline for every telenovela you've watched. Sure could use some of your braincells, lady. Thanks!

This is so clever, Elna June. What a spectacular way to close out this TN. Excellent.

I was so disappointed in Mel. What a wimp. Surely he could have held out for at least one more of Fonzi's slaps. He did look good in that faded Madras shirt, however. Alfonsina? Well, more please.

Vivi, the sword fight could have fit perfectly into any one of the Highlander episodes. Imagine the quickening fireworks display on the shrimp boat. Too bad Susanlynn isn't watching this show.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that Jerry looks like a goner. Hasn't this poor man suffered enough?...Nah.

Carlos

Well, Elna June, you have distinguished yourself as the premier news anchor for this tn as well as the clinician identifying a totally new mental disorder (snifferous odorus underwearus)! Can we call this new disease "Augie Syndrome?" Is there yet an ICD9 code for this disorder? I loved every line you wrote.

I once had a cracked rib, and thus found the probability of Jero's heroic exploits on the low end of the truth scale - that is until I put on the beanie Emilia knitted for me, then everything made perfect sense! Of course you can swim with a fractured rib in the best Olympic form; of course you can climb up a 20 foot anchor chain; of course you can engage in a fencing match.

I found it odd that there were two swords, but only one pistol on board Augie's love boat.

Vivi, you amaze me with your index of significant events. I am afraid that my memory could not have produced such a list of signicant and orderly events.

Surely with last night's episode ending with Augie's downstroke, they won't put us on hold? Poor Augie, he just wanted to get screwed, but will wind up getting skewered.

David

Elna June, What a fabulous recap. I loved your reporter style to frame the Highlander like action! And I never watched Highlander but I got the image straight off. What a fun two episode sword fight. It looks like they are throwing in all the possible endings we all speculated about. I need to go back and finish the recap and comments. We are being swept. Loved the preantepenultimate episode! Brilliant!

Poor Augie, he just wanted to get screwed, but will wind up getting skewered.

David--love this!!

Vivi--can I borrow your brain sometime?? I thought I had good recall - you are amazing!!

How in the world do you all keep coming up with new angles? LOVED the newscap, EJ! Masterful!

Daisy, I, too, parked my beanie -- right next to the SWIM FINS that go with every wetsuit; otherwise you pretty much just bob around like a cork. But whatever -- I am just glad to have "traje de neopreno" in my quiver. I almost put my own on in solidarity, but I didn't have a sword, so what's the point?

David, "he just wanted to get screwed, but will wind up getting skewered" sounds like a perfect recap title to me. Or maybe a hit song. That's brilliant.

EJ, I forgot to thank you for the new word, preantepenultimate! Now there is a word that has been brought out of obsolescence if there ever was one. Nicely done amiga.

Vivi, you have an amazing brain. Thank you for reminding us of the timeline. Fun stuff. You're right, last night's episode was very Highlander-like. No wonder I enjoyed it so much, not to mention it was awesome.

EJ, I'm with Diana. One of the best recaps. Ever.

great summary in 20 steps, Vivi!
now EJ... brilliant! now how do I match that for tonight's finale of the Mission Impossible on high seas? ...

I was so afraid when Anibal grabbed those wires... i was ready to watch the shot of the Coyote getting electrocuted by the Acme brand engine

Marta, you shouldn't have any worries about following in EJ's esteemed footsteps (or wordsmithing). Your unique Marta style will always be a delight and nobody can match your conversation-translating prowess. Not even close.

JudyB, you are right about Alfonsina's shirt. I went back and checked and sure enough she went from green to pink, however I think I saw a sunrise in between so maybe it is just a case of someone actually changing their shirt for once.

I also peeked back at Monday's episode, the scene in the police station, and Alfonsina said her name is Alfonsina CAMPOS Flores!

Campos? Wasn't that Blanca's last name also?? Is Alfonsina related to Blanca? Doesn't make any sense, but who knows.

I just hope someone - anyone picked up the gun the guy who went for a swim dropped and is aiming it a Augustine. Do we know where that gun went?

Mary, that's what I was getting but, as you say, why? Way back when I was sure there would be some sort of alpha beeyatch climax in the wine country between Fina and Blanca but then Fina had to go and give Blanca flying lessons. There is probably no relation and I'm obsessing over a common name.

But the gun, now that little detail could be very important. Another detail, why did Matias leave the gaff on top of the bad guy? He'll wake up and his weapon will practically be in his hand!

What a wonderful recap! I'm going to miss CME. Ii started watching La que no podia amar and really like it so far, but hate the time slot. Talisman looks pretty good too... hmmm.

I love all of you recappers!

Sylvia: yeah, the gun, the gun??

I don't know where it went - I was so focused on everyone just standing around just allowing creep head Augie to beat the tar out of Jero wondering why, why doesn't someone throw something at him - a line, anything. But they just stood around - come on guys haven't you heard of power in numbers? Geez

Oh and another thing, did a lot of Jero's bruises wash off after his 10 mile swim to the boat?? LOL

@ Sylvia and Mary: yes, Blanca and Alfie are/were hermanas but the angle never really came up. I don't recall either mentioning the other.

OOPS sorry for double posting - don't know how that happened. :(

What a day!!! an utterly awesome recap by EJ and the remarkable Vivi the Brain and her Jero/Nata timeline.

I love movies/TV. I'm usually good at allowing "artistic license" to stretch credibility. But sometimes even I have to say "QTH?!" Jero diving into the water, swimming for what looked like a freakin' mile, getting beat up and cut up. Sorry, by this time this guy would be dead. They should have allowed him to seem more healed at the hacienda for me to even remotely buy it. It was massive beanie time.

When I saw Anibal stowaway on the boat, I thought, what a sweet boy--but totally useless with that leg. He did, however, manage to help.

Thoughts on Marina: I think all she needed was some breathing space. To be away from Jero and Nata and allow herself to be happy to be pregnant, get back to work, think things out. Even though she's still in love with Jero, and it will be hard for her, at least until she meets someone else, she'll be able to make it work. This is assuming she survives.

I think Jero is going to do that Hollywood thing and turn around and skewer Auggie just at the last second.

Robey

Mary, dont worry about the bruises... just think that 24 hrs ago Jero was lying in Sabina's cot on the virge of death and now he is s2wimming the high seas with a perfect backstroke while Matias is losing his breath after climbing up the anchor chain (how did Jero get up there first?)... LOL

Alfie and Blanca sisters? Really?? Well maybe she'll somehow get aome of the money that Blanca took from EM? Nah... Sisters huh?

Good Wednesday everyone!
Wasn't that an episode last night?

Sylvia: So sorry about you honey's interrupted sleep, but I am glad you got a giggle out of the fictitious disease. I have always wanted to make up my own DSM. I couldn't agree with you more, Augustin played the abuser to a "T" last night. Hit the victim, make it her fault in your own mind and try to worm your way under her defenses. Disgusting but well written and acted.

Daisynjay: Thanks for the feedback. I was so worried about Anibal! He was limping from a GUNSHOT wound going in before being tortured by his father with a long pointy object. You will notice that in writing the news report I made a typical news-reporter mistake and made Anibal's last name "Linares". In my mind he has already been adopted by Renata.

Diana: So sorry you missed the actual episode and I am glad you enjoyed the recap. Thank you very much for your kind words.I can't wait to see how tonight goes.

Vivi: I loved YOUR recap of the entire TN! Congrats on having such a prodigious memory, friend, and for providing such a perfect synopsis of the action. I am glad you enjoyed the recap.

EJ

Martaivett: No kidding - he could barely stand up and now he's swimming, climbing, fighting. Must be the ocean air! LOL

yes Robey, i guess either Anibal will step in the way and take the fatal blow or Jero will find some sharp object and nail Augie while Aaugie wastes the time taking such a wild swing with the sword (a la kevin Costner in Robin Hood p.o.t.)

Anon, there always seems to be one or two plot lines that are left hanging. One of the trademarks of this telenovela is that they have had very little of this, but the writers seem to have left the Blanca character hanging. We never found out what motivated her either. I don't remember that Blanca was ever connected to Alfonsina but they do have the last name.

Remember folks, if you have seen the show already NO SPOILERS for the rest of us!

Mary, I just re-watched the fight scene (which was very well done I think) and it looked like the gun went overboard when Matias knocked it out of the bad guy's hand. Even though they used stunt doubles I'll bet the actors got pretty roughed up.

Sylvia: Too bad about the gun going overboard.

How could people have watched the show already? Do they run these shows over and over?

Mary, it has already aired in Mexico and the blog has an international readership. Have you ever checked out the sitemeter at the bottom of the home page?

JudyB: How funny about the camisole changing color! I missed that but since Telvisa wardrobe department seems to have an endless rainbow-like supply of camisoles I am not surprised the continutiy person got a little confused.

David: I loved your comment about Auguie, "He just wanted to get screwed..." You made me laugh out loud. I think we can surely call Dunant's disorder "Augie's Syndrome". LOL.

Really, Lisardo played this as one-sick-reptile, didn't he? And by the way, what is with this one-name singer/television star thing? Lisardo? Lucero? Are Lisardo's off-spring little lizards?

Carlos, I have to agree with you that I was hoping for Melesio to tolerate a little more of Alfie's sadism. She deserved a turn at him and she has such TALENT at the anger/violence thing. By the bye, I sent you an e-mail a couple of weeks ago. Did you get it?

EJ

Oh. Didn't know.

The sitemeter?? No. What is that?

Huh! I didn't even think about the possibility of a Blanca-Alfie connection because of the last name. I don't remember either one of them ever talking about their families, only Blanca calling someone Papa on the phone once. Perhaps the writers had something in mind originally but then dropped it. I'm fine with that. I story was rich enough, with little filler, without that plot line. We'd have to add another 20 capitulos to connect Blanca to Ensenada via Alfie!

It does look like, although stunt doubles were used in many instances, the actors also had plenty of opps to get banged up. Even during the scene with Nata and Augie, I noticed a red mark and bruise on her arm where he had grabbed her. They were not afraid to get really physical in those scenes.

Glad you like my timeline of Nata-Jero. It was interesting to remember backwards to what got them to this point. All in all, I think the depth and intensity of their relationship makes total sense and evolved in a logical way.

The sitemeter is a very cool feature that gives log-in info, etc. Go the Caray Caray homepage (or any recap really) and scroll down to the very bottom of the page. There will be a little icon with some vertical green bars. It might say "sitemeter" next to it. Click onto it and it will take you to the Sitemeter page. On the menu bar to the left you will see numerous options for accessing log-in info. Click onto "By World Map" and you can see where in the world people have logged on. Under the map you have the option of viewing from 1 up to the past 100 visitors, just click onto the number you want.

Blue Lass: I am delighted we will both be recapping the new TN together. I predict we will have great fun fun! I thought about the lack of fins too, QTH? I think you needed a new neoprene beanie to get through that whole section of last night's action.

Marta Ivett:
Thanks so much for your compliment. As our mistress of dialog for this TN I am sure you will be inspired by some of the words in tonight's sword-fight wrap up. Hopefully, you will get to write about Augie's wrap-up, as well. How satisfying that will be! I look forward to working together on Talisman.

Anon: Alfonsina and Blanca are SISTERS? Sylvia, you hinted at this, how do we know? Anon, ar eyou Jarocha? ¡Guau!

EJ

EJ

Vivi, thank you again for doing the Nata-Jero romance timeline. It must have taken a long time for you to recall everything. It really makes these last few episodes much more meaningful. Also, I don't feel so bad about Jero getting banged up as I am reminded what a Jerko Antihero he was in the beginning, LOL!!

EJ, I was quite happy that my guffawing woke my honey. Serves him right as he is always kicking me in his sleep...or at least he claims he's asleep. Hmmm.

EJ, I hinted that Blanca might have ties to the wine country, not really a stretch as every other character seems to. Alfonsina saying her name at the police station was a total surprise to me. I don't recall that she and Blanca were ever connected. I think Vivi is right, it was a possible plot connection that the writers decided to drop. Maybe they decided to add Anibal and dump Blanca, no pun intended, hee.

Sylvia- It took me about half an hour while I watched Familia. It really isn't that hard if I just sit and think.

I loved this episode so much I'm saving it on the DVR to watch at least a few more times, and I enjoyed the recap just as much. The news bulletin format is brilliant. You did a phenomenal job, Elna June, and double duty as girl reporter and psychologist, no less!

The gun did go overboard when Matias hit the guy. And fortunately this turba de facinerosas (mob of criminals, vocab from UFCS)seems to have only had one gun.

The guapo dude who was holding the gun and Renata on the deck looked really familiar. Have we seen him somewhere before? I'm sure he's played multiple bit parts but I feel like I remember him from something in particular...but what?

Of course Jero can swim half a mile, climb the chain, and hold his own in a swordfight despite all his injuries. He is the hero, after all. This Telenovela Beanie by Emilia is so handy.

So what I'm left wondering is, will one of our good guys actually make Ughie into Shark Chow, or will he cause his own demise? It would be a real breach of form for the protagonist to kill anyone. Anibal would be too tormented if he did it. Matias, maybe? Or will he fall on his own sword? Perhaps Jero will duck out of the way of Augie's wildly swinging sword, and it will swing around so hard Augie will take his own head off.

OH, I like the idea of Alfi/Blanca being sisters. Blanca had some bucks stashed, and though Fina helped her self to some, once she gets her "due" Blanca's money, belongings, etc. need to go to some next of kin. So, problem for Alfi not having the money and means with Zeke gone, etc. She'll inherit what Blanca had. Who knows...maybe she was really rolling in personal dough. Not a fan of Alfi, but love those kiddies. Want to see them well taken care of.

EJ this was a great recap. Since I wanted Augie dead and tormented by the end of the episode, I shared Mary's sentiments and got upset the lookie-loos would not help Jero. Your recap brought a smile to my face.

Vivi- kudos to you for your memory. And thanks to you and Carlos (Cheryl, Judy, and Sylvia) bringing up "Highlander." The image of a quickening on a shrimp boat was delicious.

Mary and daisynjay, I like your thoughts about Alfonsina inheriting Blanca's stash. Hopefully they are not all ill-gotten gains that have to be returned somewhere. I'm sure our writers will figure out a way for getting the money to Alfonsina. And if they don't, well then we will!

"Perhaps Jero will duck out of the way of Augie's wildly swinging sword, and it will swing around so hard Augie will take his own head off." Ha ha ha!! Julia you are so darn funny, that is the best demise yet. And the momentum will make him fly over the side so there will be no gory mess to clean up. Off with his own head and shark chum to boot.

I also recognized the cute bad guy but can't for the life of me recall where I've seen him. Maybe a bit part in Juan Querendon? There were a lot of uncredited good-looking guys in that one.

Great Recap Elna June!

I always find it funny when our heroes have superhero powers, remember when Colunga rided a bike and was shot so many times in MEPS and he was as good as new a few scenes later? haha.

Jero is a hero.

Jarocha

Hi, Karen:

I have to confess that I have never seen 'Highlander'? Is the show a riff on Diana Gabaldon's excellent 'Outlander' series of novels? It sounds like fun television.

Julia: Really, you have the perfect ending for Augustin. "Accidental suicide by centrifugal force with his own sword." Better than a "Clue" ending.

EJ

"And by the way, what is with this one-name singer/television star thing? Lisardo? Lucero? Are Lisardo's off-spring little lizards?"

I think its a cultural thing that comes from Spain and is pretty common in Spanish speaking countries. Especially with singers.

My guess is that is easier to promote them by using just one name.

Lucero is catchier than Lucero Hogaza León.

Thalía is catchier than Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda.

But dropping a name is something that everybody does in the media. It's rare that an actor would use their full name as his stage name.

Another example: Silvia Angélica Navarro Barba is not as easy to promote as Silvia Navarro.

Some Indian actors also drop their last names, especially in the south.

I was just wondering who is going to help Anibal run his hacienda. I'm thinking since Jero has Carlos and Laz, maybe Alfonsina would be willing to take on the job. I'm determined Anibal survives this.

I'm going to do that give the benefit of the doubt, "artistic license" thing and give the characters standing around while Jero and Auggie fight it out some slack--that it would be dangerous to interfere in a sword fight, that they might actually cause more harm.

Jarocha: Always thought that a hoot that FC got shot so many times in MEPS and then turned up just a few months later all well and still buff. And I wondered, if they had him take off his shirt we would see scars. I figured, no.

Robey

Jarocha:

Thanks so much for commenting. I always love getting your perspective.

Yes, I DO remember Colunga's remarkable recovery in the final episodes of MEPS. It sure looks like Soler is going to repeat that rapid recovery in CME.

EJ

Robey: Colunga has super healing powers. His skin shall never be marred like that.

And upa, I meant "when Colunga rode a bike". I need to proofread before I post.

Jarocha

Guau! ElnaJune!!!
I picked my jaw up long enough to pause and forward your 'report' to my daughter -an assistant news director- cause you are a show stopper!

"I need to proofread before I post."

Several times, ugh. I meant "ups" not upa.

EJ: Good for Soler then haha. He drank from the same fountain as Colunga.

Jarocha

Jarocha: FC was my first TN hero (MEPS). In fact, I didn't watch another TN after MEPS until STuD. I'm watching CME because of SN. I'll probably follow Juan Solar. I know he was Jerko a lot of the time in this TN, but I like him. I like his acting. I don't think I'm going to wait for my four to turn up in the next one (the fourth being Lu), but not sure which new one to commit to.

Waiting to check out El Talisman.

Robey

Fernando Colunga was my first telenovela hero too, Luis Manrique in Alborada, sigh. I think he will always be my favorite but I have many second-favorites.

Ej - Oh how I loved those Outlander novels. Now there's a TN in the making...just have to transport the characters from the scottish highlands to Mexico. Jaime had long, red hair....who would play him? Now, I could definitely see out Sylvia as Claire.

Highlander, if I remember, heros and villians were all immortals of strength and smarts. The original tale starts also in the Scottish Highlands so there's a lot of swashbuckling, even into present day.

Bonney Churros:

Wow. So nice to see your comment—it knocked me out! I am so flattered, thank you. I hope your daughter knows I had my tongue firmly in my cheek as I wrote the recap AND that I know it is full of typos and grammos. Big grin.

EJ

Elna June, I don't recall receiving an Email from you and I checked back through the last month and can't find one. I'm not sure what happened. Could you send it again?

Alfonsina is Blanca's sister? No puede ser.

Carlos

EJ - "Highlander" was a great series (from an average movie) with Immortals battling with one another. The only way they can die is if their head is taken off so all of them are swordmen/women. [One of the sayings in the show is 'there can be only one' and it should be Duncan McCleod b/c he is noble and just whereas most other immortals are kind of like Augie - crazed for power.] Another plus of the series is that many English actors/actresses (I'm quite bias towards the Brits and Jane Austen) pop up throughout and make for interesting villains or old friends of Duncan.

Vivi, I absolutely loved your 20 point recall of CME from the Jero-Renata centric perspective. It was a sterling act of recall and then to find out further down in the posts that you actually did it in a half hour and while multi-tasking with watching Familia. Hilarious! It is good thing that Familia moves at an ooze speed so you weren't distracted in your monumental task.

Don't you find that the beanie-time moments have gone so much better since so many of us are sporting Emilia La Fashionista Beanies? So much better than the old aluminum foil versions.

Colunga and Alborada were my starter obsessions too! Still love both. I have one friend who made tapes of the entire first run of Alborada in the US and continues to run through it back to back. I guess until the tapes start fraying she will not stop. But why should she?

Don't you find that the beanie-time moments have gone so much better since so many of us are sporting Emilia La Fashionista Beanies? So much better than the old aluminum foil versions.

Yes! It's like going from a first-model Nimbus to a Firebolt!

I thought it was hilarious that Augustin kept his jacket on during the swordfight. Any hero worth his weight always removes his outer clothing and sometimes even his shirt prior to a sword fight. Hmmph.

I get why Auggie is always wearing windbreakers--preparing for a life at sea.

Robey

Brilliant, E J, absolutely brilliant!

EJ- Just had to put my two pesos in on a fine recap.

Maybe your cameraman could encourage Matias and Anibal to, I don't know, maybe HELP the severely injured guy fight off a sword instead of just watching? Wasn't there an ax or something they could get?

Kelly

word- Inglighs. If my spanglighs were as good as my inglighs, I wouldn't get to read such fine reports as this one. Again, outstanding.

Our internet was down all day, so I'm just reading the recap....EJ--this was beyond classic. Innovative, it was, clever and suspensful (including a few belly laughs in between the action). Thank you. Now, on to the comments before it turns into 7 pm. time.
NOK

I also wanted to note that I was proud of Jero when he found out Nata had been kidnapped. He kept a clear head and didn't wallow in histrionics.

I'm also glad Nata was only on the boat for such a short time. I was afraid it was going to be a long drawn out thing. Can't wait to dispatch Auggie and get to the downfall of Roberta. Hope it's slow and gruesome.

Robey

Oh yes, our Emilia beanies make the experience SO much better. They are so fashionable that we have worn them out of desire and not so much out of necessity during this tn. And if there is any time for the beanie to be used, it's during the finale when all the stops are usually pulled out to foil the bad guys.

Slightly off topic, I looked everywhere last week to see if I could purchase some Mexican wine for El Gran Final...nada! I guess I could have ordered some directly from a winery and paid an exorbitant price plus customs, or driven down to San Diego where I hear they sell some at one store. I'm sure it's a complicated reason why we don't import Mexican wine probably having to do with trade agreements and such, but it seems a shame that we can't import wine from our own next door neighbor.

Cap'n- What store? I've looked for some and can't find it. I think there's a wine bar in my 'hood that has some but haven't checked it out yet. It'd be nice to get a bottle for the finale.

Kelly

Kelly, maybe it is a wine merchant and not a store but here is the contact info:
Torrey Wines,
10473 Roselle Street * San Diego, CA 92121
Phone: 858-455-1944 - Fax: 858-455-1448
Hours: 8am-3pm PST Monday-Friday

As far as I can tell the only Mexican wine they sell is Chateau Camou.

Torrey Wines is wholesale, which is a bummer since they're down the street from where I work (and near a fencing school!). But she gave me the name of another place I'll call. Will let you know in case you're ever down this way without your passport and want to stock up.

Kelly

Aww, Elna Jung, that was spectacular! You should be free-lancing for the New York Post. Too cool.

Terabyte aka Vivi, how CAN you do that?

Glad everyone got by with mi Esposa's crocheted beanies. I had to get the steel mixing bowl for this one.

To be a wet blanket, wasn't BSC Blanca's last name Ocampo? As opposed to Campos.

Now, mi Esposa is finishing up a couple of promised beanies. Then she'll be turning to booties. Yep, that's exactly what that means - nuestro primero nieto! Due around July 1st. Looking like a great year for us.

Mike, you're probably right about Campos and Ocampo. That's me again twisting history to suit myself. I do that with song lyrics too. La la la it's my little world and I'm in charge of it!

Hey, great news about your first nieto!! How exciting. That calls for a nice shot of Mezcal to be poured as a toast tonight to you and Emilia. I'll toast you two during the show tonight.

Granny E here - YAY!!
EJ, I can't think of any superlatives that haven't already been used. So, guau, maraviguau!!! Loved it. Brenda Starr has some powerful competition.

I was yelling at all the lookers to throw something, anything, at Augie. Ropes, shoes, baseballs, brickbats... Too bad they didn't have one of the balls from Monterrubio Manor. That would have made a dent.

Julia, I love your idea for Augie to decapitate himself. Oh yeah.

Mike and I always watch the 7:00 tn, whatever it happens to be. But, since we haven't watched the one that is being moved - and doubled up - we probably will wait for a new one at 7:00. Hope to see a lot of you wonderful people there.

Just stopping by to say how much I loved this:

"Preantepenultimate Episode"

Congratulations to Mike and Emilia! That lucky baby will have the best-shod feet around, and terrific grandparents, too.

Congrats Mike and Emilia. My honorary daughter just had her second--a boy. Happy New Year!!

Robey

Sylvia- The Wine Bank in downtown SD says they have some Baja wines. They're above my usual budget of "better than 2 buck chuck but not as good as $15", but a splurge may ok. So it's between wine shopping and the gym. Hmmmm.

Kelly

Kelly, or you can buy some two buck chuck and dream of Valle de Guadalupe. That way you can work out AND enjoy a glass of wine with the finale.

Hi, Sara:

Well, we have mutual admiration, then, because I really appreciated your intro to Rogelio et al.

I was trying to find a way to indicate that we were nearly at the end but not quite...

Thanks for dropping by.

EJ
