La Que No Podía Amar #16 Lunes 1/23/12 Another Indecent Proposal
Rogelio: Very well, then. What do you want to tell me?
Rosaura: You have no idea what it is to be poor and have nothing to eat. Or you wouldn't find it so easy to criticize me when I'm looking for the best for Ana Paula.
Rogelio: And according to you what is best for Ana Paula?
Rosaura (as though she were reading pornography): I don't want her to have to work. My niece is beautiful. And good. She deserves to live like a queen.
Rogelio: I can give her that life.
Rosaura: Yes; other men also, like Bruno or ...
Rogelio: Like nobody. Because nobody can give her as much as I.
Rosaura (starts becoming confused): Don't take this the wrong way, but there are other things that my girl values more.
Rogelio: I'm listening.
Rosaura: She is a decent girl. Amusing, and very innocent. Like you won't find. On the other hand, you have money but also this little inconvenience...
Rogelio: Shut up! Listen to my proposition. Surely that is more than a little inconvenience.
Rosaura: Nobody. I was singing. Sometimes when I sing I scream. [Audience gives thanks for the warning] Hija, enough of the sadness. Singing or crying, I can only think your brother is going to prison. For years. Along with the thieves and evildoers.
Ana Paula: I'm very worried, too.
Rosaura: It's so unfair. A boy so good, so hard-working, who had a good future in front of him...Who knows for how long? You have to help him.
Ana Paula: Yes, but not like that. Aunt, do you really think marrying Bruno or anyone else would solve this problem?
Rosaura: Many women marry to have someone to protect them...
Ana Paula: Yes, Aunt, before...
Rosaura: Think about what you want. This whole family depends on you.
Rogelio: You look sad.
Ana Paula: It's about my brother.
Rogelio: Is that the only thing?
Ana Paula: Also... well, it's personal. (She fingers the shell necklace Gustavo gave her)
Rogelio: I see. What pain to be relating this to someone with no feelings. Or that's the last thing you said to me.
Ana Paula: You and I are very different. But that should not interfere with my work as a nurse.
Rogelio: Paula, truly, do you think me despicable?
Ana Paula: You could be very different if you wanted to.
Rogelio: I'm glad. (moving closer) I'm glad because I have a proposition better than you being my nurse.
Ana Paula: What?
Rogelio (removing his hat): Paula, marry me.
Rogelio: Don't be naïve. Do you think everyone marries for love?
Ana Paula: I will do so.
Rogelio: Paula, listen to me. Let's start over again.
Ana Paula: I will return to the hacienda to work for you. But how can you now think I could be your wife? I don't understand; I think it's absurd.
Ana Paula: No. Our deal is only about work. As for marriage, I've said I'm not in love with you.
Rogelio: No, not necessarily. Neither would I say that is true of me.
Ana Paula: Therefore I don't understand.
Rogelio: Because this would be better than business.
Ana Paula: What would you win by marrying me? We are very different. Our worlds, too.
Rogelio: Yes, I know. But I like the way you are. Your laughter, your [need help here]
Ana Paula: Yes, yes, yes. But that's not enough for marriage.
Rogelio: For me, yes. (moves closer) You are a beautiful woman. A beautiful woman. You know that. (He strokes her hair) Don't worry. You just need to be my wife in name only. Of course there can't be intimacy between us. You'd provide companionship...I don't want you as my nurse, but as my wife. It's the one way I can demonstrate that I can have the woman I want at my side.
Ana Paula: Therefore you're doing this as a whim. [caprichio]
Rogelio: Yes. Yes, this is a whim that will get your brother out of jail and fix your family's lives.
Rogelio: No, because one way or another you will pay what you owe me. Marry me or whatever suits you. You'd be married to me till-death-do-us-part because we'd be married in church –
Ana Paula: No, of course not. We'd have a civil ceremony. To marry without love in the church is unforgivable.
Rogelio: If it makes you feel better we could have a prenup.
Ana Paula: What's that?
Rogelio: A contract we both sign before getting married. For every month you pretend [fingir] to be my wife I will deposit money into an account independent of any salary as a nurse. I will guarantee your future and that of your family.
Ana Paula: And that's for you. What about me? I only have to pretend to be your wife?
Rogelio: Yes. Pretend. One year. One year. And for every year after that there will be an important allowance.
Ana Paula: I don't know, I don't know, and I don't understand. Why do you want to do this?
Rogelio: It's because I want a wife. My conditions [need help here]
Ana Paula: Therefore, look for someone more like yourself.
Rogelio: I have chosen her. And I have my reasons. But for you the lack of money is an important motive.
Ana Paula: I don't know –
Rogelio: Don't take too long deciding. (puts his hat back on) The offer won't be open forever.
Commercial Break
Vanessa: Yes, but it's where we are.; we couldn't help it.
Rogelio: Yes, yes, we need to prove it to ourselves. (touches her cheek) Vanessa, I want you to think about it.
Vanessa: There is nothing to think about. Understand. I was unhappy with Esteban because I couldn't forget you. It was a nightmare because I couldn't love him. On the other hand, you – (moves in for the kiss. She's far more into it than he is, even as he touches her neck. She returns the touch, but then they separate) What's wrong?
Rogelio (with a flat affect she doesn't see but we do): Nothing. I'm enjoying – very much enjoying – this moment. (cupping her head)
Rogelio: Don't do anything before you think about it well. Look, Vanessa, since I've been in the wheelchair, I can't have children. I'm sure that will factor into it.
Vanessa: Rogelio, if you're afraid –
Rogelio: I'm afraid of nothing. I'm just informing you.
Vanessa: My love, before I was very young and because of that I was afraid you'd be like this all your life. But now I'm different.
Rogelio: But this won't change.
Vanessa: I'm more mature now. I just know I want to be with you and nothing else is important.
Rogelio: What irony. For a long time I waited to hear these words from you and now I don't believe them.
Vanessa: What proof do I need to give you? Despite your breaking the contract with my father I want you.
Rogelio (kisses her forehead): As you wish. Make the plans and we'll see how things go.

So sorry to hear you are not well. I hope you are fully recovered very soon.

Podía starts at 10PM EST tonight, due to the presidents state of the union address.

I'm somewhat confused about when they'll be broadcasting LQNPA tonight on the East Coast. Last night's broadcast claimed that tonight there would be a special two-hour presentation, but the State of the Union speech makes that unlikely. The Washington Post indicated that Univision would broadcast the State of the Union at 9 and LQNPA for one hour at 10. I'm not quite sure how to set my VCR (yes, I still use a VCR, not a DVR).
Feel better UA.

Recap is up. It's not my usual standard for this series but I hope it will do.
What a horrible scene when the police came to arrest Miguel not caring that he just had surgery to reconnect his fingers.
That happy dance and singing from money hungry Rosaura was way over the top LOL.
Tonight's show is for two hours but I'm not sure what time it's coming on since it's also the State of the Union address from the President tonight as well.
I know he's suppossed to be the galan but I'm thinking AP would still be better off with Gustavo, and Rogelio and Vanessa can both get redemmed at the end and spend their lives together. Or make each others lives hell. Either way is good for me.
The music is the best thing about this show. Besides Cinthia's abs of course. And the horsies.
Kelly
Poor Miguel. Is it just me or when Miguel is in the prison cell, he runs into the Jeffe from LFDD? It looks like the same guy.
I'm glad Gus was saved, but I don't think Mercedes will let Ana Paula near him.
And the Tia. I can't wait for the anvil to hurl on her. She is the most obnoxious, avararious, soulless being I have ever seen. She would sell her own soul to the devil if she could get lots and lots of money. She is treating Ana Paula like the precious.
"Rosaura (as though she were reading pornography" and "MentiRosa does a victory dance and sings so badly this author wants to mute the TV" had me laughing out loud. Simply splendid.
I so appreciate the dialog translations. So, Rogelio is captivated but not in love. Ana is far from either.
I don't like Rogelio playing with Vainessa as a spider would a fly. A better revenge would have been to continue to ignore her and allow the wedding to speak for itself - to let Vainessa stew in regret and anger.
Can't wait until tonight.
Diana
The way he got up from the wheelchair convinces me more and more that his paralysis is psychological. It was how he escaped from Vainessa in the first place, like Ronnie Cammereri in Moonstruck with actually losing part of his hand.
Tia MentiRosa's expression when he got in her face in that scene was priceless. She should be very afraid of him.
I think it's vile, vile, vile that David and Rogelio are heaping more upon poor Miguel by having David press bogus charges. But I'm not mistaken, but wouldn't Miguel go to jail regardless, because of the deaths of the victims? It seems like the wheels were turning against him because of that, even before Rogelio started interfering. I'm not sure how much impact the pressing charges is going to make (obviously some, otherwise Rogelio wouldn't want to do it), since the death of the victims seems to be the primary concern at the moment. I guess that Rogelio wants the charges pressed just to add that little "extra" that (he hopes) gets Ana Paula running to him all the faster.
I had missed some of the nuances of the proposal scene when I was able to see the episode with no CCs, so it was nice to see it finally with CCs and also to read this recap. It seems to me that Rogelio is smitten (but still conflicted and/or in denial about it). It also seemed to me that he started out just saying to Paula, "Marry me." If she had accepted at that point, I think he wouldn't have brought up the whole business deal thing, the "in name only" thing, or any of it. When she balked at the proposal, only then did he mention that it was in name only, don't worry, etc
I also think that he's going to enjoy marrying Paula, just to stick it to Bruno and any other man who said that Rogelio wasn't up to having a wife anymore (if you know what I mean). Especially Bruno, since Bruno's the one who "reminded" Rogelio that never again can he make a woman happy. But still, even with all of that, Rogelio is smitten with Ana Paula and that is his overriding reason for wanting to marry her. He may deny it to himself, but that's it. When she was at the hacienda, it brightened his days and he wants that back.
While I think he's not seriously considering Vainessa as a wife, he wants to see how this all plays out, what she says, how she reacts. He was stuck on that hacienda, stewing over her, for 7 years, and I guess he needs to get it all out of his system. Also note that he never actually "proposed" to her and is noncommittal. "Make the plans and we'll see how it goes" is what he says. Sneaky, sneaky!
UA, I also wonder if his paralysis is psychological. (This is not a spoiler, BTW!)
Maybe Rohellio will turn into a galan one day but he's pure evil right now and totally selfish. Ana Paula has given him some sense of happiness -- or maybe a desire to be happy again -- but he has no problems causing her pain.
I think Osvaldo Benavides is doing a great job as Miguel. So glad Gustavo doesn't have amnesia - I was afraid of that.
Diana, I'm with you about the way Rogelio is treating Vanesa. Truthfully, I don't like the way he is treating any of the other characters, but the way he is treating Vanesa reminds me of Jerónimo in CME.
At the moment I can see no good reason to keep this guy alive.
Carlos
Sin-thia won't like this one bit. One more person in the house is one more person who can find out about her Lade Chatterley action.
Finally, I think Tia MentiRosa will have hell to pay as well. I'm sure Rogelio could arrange for her to have medical appointments that will disclose that she is far from ill.
I loved your description of Tia’s singing, I had the same reaction, ouch!
Madelaine-Yes, what is that varmint Rohell up to? I wondered all the same things you did. Poor Miguel, in with (I swear) the same bunch of prisoners on LFDD, I thought that when I saw them, too. And he is totally helpless with them (and apparently everything in life, including how to groom one's eyebrows, and how to stop driving and pull over to the side when you are tired, etc), unlike Antolin from LFDD who could take care of himself.
Is Rohell just a sadist? I still think he is like a crime boss. He has all these people beholden to him, he has all kinds of criminal connections (like David, who is clearly a criminal). He can put people in jail or get them out by pulling strings.
Rohells paralysis just might be gone now, I think he knows he can walk now and is laying low to get revenge on everyone.
Vengeance is a very destructive thing, but in this case I'm going to love Rogelio getting back at Vanesa. Of course it could lead to someones murder.
I hope Gustavo remembers what happened, but more likely AP, Daniela or Miguel will find Gustavo's stuff in capitulo next to last. Rosaura has to pay for her sins.
I look to an Amor Real ending, where the heroine falls in love with her husband
We are all going to go to bed very depressed when El Talisman comes on.
I struggle with why Rogelio wants the charges pressed against Miguel. I don't get it. It seems like Miguel is in enough hot water as it is. All Rogelio has to do is be the 'white knight' and solve the problems in exchange for marriage to Paula. Okay so maybe he wouldn't be a white knight for saving Miguel on those conditions . . .
Anyway, it seemed like it was David's idea to claim that Miguel was working off the clock, and Rogelio just went along with it and said it was a good idea. David is crooked enough on his own and wants to cover his company's butt. So Rogelio, douchebag that he is, tells Ana Paula that David "was" going to press charges, but that he (Rogelio) talked him out of it. This earns Rohell a little bit of hand porn from Ana Paula as she grabs his hand briefly in gratitude. So what's with the pressing the charges now? Is it so he can again claim that he "talked David out of it" or say that if she marries him, he can fix it all with David. I guess that's what it must be. It's mostly a bluff.
I still don't get it, though. IF Rohell is thinking enough ahead (which I guess he's not) he'd realize that IF he marries Ana Paula and IF she ends up caring for him and he gets a "happily ever after" with her, that IF she ever finds out about the douchebaggery with Miguel that it may undo all the "happily ever after" stuff he secretly hopes for?
Okay, never mind answering that. This is a telenovela! LOL!
Even though Rogelio stopped David from "helping" Miguel, Rohell could tell himself that David wouldn't ordinarily help out someone like Miguel (and he wouldn't, that's what David said) and that Rohell simply said to not do any extra favors. The pressing of false charges elevates everything to a new level. Unless, of course, no charges are ever pressed (or never really get anywhere) and are just a bluff only. Still pretty douchebaggy, though.
Sorry for being so long-winded; this has been on my mind for a while! LOL.
Until I saw the avances I thought that Mercedes would prevent Ana Paula from finding out about Gustavo. However, I think we all know that AP will end up with Rogelio so it will play differently from what I thought.
I imagine Rogelio wants Vanessa to get excited planning the wedding so he can bail on her at the last moment and let her be humiliated ,exactly like she did to him.
Emarie I totally agree with your Mob Boss comparison of Rogelio, he does seem like the godfather Don Corleone, keeping people in his back pockets, making them offers they cant refuse!
POOR Miguel I really felt his anguish last night, didnt big mouth Tia mention something to him about the bad things that happen to people in prison? what a witch.
Did anyone watch the novela INDIA last year ? I think David here looks alot like Bahuan, Maya's 1st love, even the necklace he wears.
I'm losing respect for her.
Carlos
What got me is that Mercedes hauled off and slapped AP right accross the face in public. You wouldn't see that in this country. Except on Jerry Springer.
If Chiapas is as backward socially as previously implied, I'm wondering whether Mercedes thinks she's past her prime. Or whether she thinks everyone else thinks that.
Carlos, I am with you on Mercedes being a hypocrite. She has no margin for faulting AnaPau and should at least listen to her. Maybe they will be friends later. I can't tell if Jorge gets top billing droit du seigneur with the lovely virgin of his choice or will the age appropriate galan recover and come to claim his love?
Not to mention that that's how Gothics play.
That's my hope. God help me but I'm still on Team Rog.
I am on pins and needles wondering what the schedule is tonight. My grid says SOTU address. *shrugs*
I felt so bad for Miguel last night!
I agree that RoHell is out to avenge his being stood up by Vainessa. I think he's chosen AP for two reasons: 1) he's not totally indifferent to her, and even misses how she brightened up his days at Hell Fuerte. I believe he's got the hots for her but is too proud/too unsure of himself to admit it; 2) he wants revenge for what Vainessa did and he's been thinking about getting the chance for the last seven long, lonely, bitter years. I bet he's going to "persuade" AP to marry him and then rub Vainessa's nose in it. He will get points with AP for it and he will pat himself on the back for getting even in such a brutal way with Vainessa. He willhave to pay for it in the long run according to TN rules if he is to really end up with Pau in the end.
Kelly
And as long as they can get the Televissa programs with the strongest stars.
Thanks UA! So sorry you were so ill.
