La Que No Podía Amar #34 Friday 2/10/12 The Grand Kiss-Off

capítulo 34

Lo del Pasado:

In the hot ‘n happenin’ mini-metropolis of San Gabriel, Michael and Maripaz enjoy their first—and their second—kiss together, leading Viewerville to assume that M&M are now an item and marked for each other.  Rogelio and Ana Paula share a moment of cordiality as Rosaura must explain to the two of them what old, dear friend is in the hospital at death’s door she needs to see back in Tuxtla.  Speaking of Tuxtla, Gustavo is walking through the same parking lot as Cinthia just as she’s about to be assaulted.  He immediately intervenes and stops her attacker—wouldn’t you know—the same thug with the worm-shaped scar on his neck who, under Bruno’s orders, beat Gus up and left him for dead.

Lo del Nuevo:

Gus recognizes the thug.  “—Miserable dirtwad!!”  Thug Dude is surprised by Gus but pulls a pistol out of his pocket and shoots.  Though he misses Gus, he buys enough time to escape.  Sin screams at Gus to just let him go.  He returns to Sin who, except for a nasty sprain and scrape on her arm, is safe and sound.  The two pairs of eyes lock and it’s Gus Galahad all over again.  ‘—You recognized him?”  “--Yeah, they beat me up and nearly killed me.”  Sin admits she’s lucky he showed up when he did or she’d be up Spit Creek without a paddle about now.  Gentleman Gus absorbs the warm words of praise and gallantly offers to take her to Big Sis, The Nurse, to get Sin’s arm cleaned up and bandaged.  The two finally remember to introduce themselves.  Sin and Gus are mesmerized by each other.  (I guess when you got “IT” you got “IT”.  Right, Gus?  --That sighing sound is actually Team Gus deflating.)   El Destino takes over and there’s an immediate attraction for each other which is made obnoxiously obvious by the uber-long screen shots of their googly-eyed grinning from ear to ear at each other.

Back at Hacienda del Fuerte, aka Hell-Fuerte, Tía MentiRosa, is playing long and loose with the truth as she explains that the person is a man she could have married.  (Something tells me Rosie was never even on Feddy’s radar screen!)  Rosie says he’s now at Death’s door and is quick to refuse AP’s offer to go with her to Tuxtla by suggesting that now that AP and Ro-Hell are getting along so much better her job there is done, and Pau's place is with hubby. It’s best she return home since Rogelio already thinks of her as a meddling mother-in-law [suegra metiche].  Oh-Hell smiles politely but doesn’t disagree with her.  Rosie leaves to start packing.

Mikey and Maripaz kiss a third time.  He’s all for getting to know Maripaz much better, if that’s the way she wants it….

Ro-Hell asks if Pau is sad to see her aunt return to Tuxtla.  Yes, she says, she will be.  She mentions she knew there used to be a man in Tia Rosie’s life.  She sacrificed that “love” for Mikey and her, though.  Oh-Hell says he finds it hard to believe.  Rosie doesn’t come across as the benevolent kind to him.  BUT, if Pau says she was, then she was.  Pau adds that after all the years of sacrificing for them, now that MentiaRosie is ill and cannot work, she wants to take care of her.  Pau’s dimples sparkle naively and as appreciatively as ever that again Ro-Hell doesn’t demand the last word on the subject.  Oh-Hell smiles knowingly but says nothing.

At TOHIT, Gus fills Big Sis in on how he and Esteban are trying to stop Big Dave’s hotel from being finished because of the numerous building violations.  The only thing that bothers him now is that bribery charge David’s held over him.  Sure it’s his word against David’s, but right now the fishermen believe David’s version of things, so legally it looks bad for Gus.  Sin comes out of the ER and is hungry.  She invites Mercedes and Gus to eat on her peso, but Mercedes has to work.  Mersnotty’s tells the two of them--Sin, having passed Big Sis’s snoot’n smell test--to go without her.

Sin tells Gus her best friend was going to meet her for lunch.  He says fine, but he wants to stop at the police station first to report her assault.  Sin gets all starry-eyed and says she’s sure her friend “will enjoy meeting the man who saved my life.”  Gus looks like he’s seeing Sin through his own set of hearts and flowers--something which Big Sis is happy to see.  (Too bad Viewerville can’t appreciate it more.  Bleh.  JR had his best on-screen chemistry with pretty charming pretty Carmen.)

Back at Hacienda Hell-Fuerte, Rosie tries talking Pau into trying to make the best of the situation with Ro-Hell.  Rosie purrs encouragingly at Paula. “--He’s not such a bad sort.  He’s anxious to teach you to ride and even gave you that pretty horse!”  Pau gives that irritatingly spoiled, bored, complacent teen-aged-girl look.  “—Let him love and spoi-i-i-l you!”  “--Well, he did say he was hoping we could be friends.”  “--Wonderful!  There are many others who would want to be his friend!”

Gus meets Vanessa when she joins him and Sin at lunch.  He can’t stop staring at Nessa and he doesn’t exactly know why.  They all sit down at the table.   Suddenly Sin’s cell starts ringing.  It’s Big Dave but she ignores it.  (Damn it’s as annoying as he is!)  Gus asks if she isn’t going to answer it.

At the same time, Margarito wanders into Ro-Hell’s study to ask him if, since Rog and Pau are married, they might adopt him.  Oh-Hell is at a loss for words for once and Viewerville’s inquiring minds want to know why.

At the restaurant, Sin finds a quiet spot to blow off Big Dave who tells her he’s free now and is coming to join her and Vainessa at the restaurant.  She says they’ve already eaten and Nessa is into girl chat and discussing her daddy’s depressing state of health.  She’ll see him tonight and they can go out then.  Fine.  Click.  Sin sits back down to enjoy the new view and lies that it was just a friend who’s gotten her a copy of her father’s will.  Oh, says Nessa.  You have one now?  Yep.

At Hell Fuerte in the kitchen, AP tells Mikey that MentiRosie’s going back to Tuxtla and why.  AP leaves to take a phone call and Mikey takes the time to ask Consuela all about Maripaz's favorite things.  The love-bug has apparently bitten him bad.

In town, Maripaz is getting the 3rd degree about Michael from her ma.  Maripaz doesn’t admit to half the stuff they discussed--not that any girl in her right mind ever would—or to how serious things have gotten between her and Uni-brow Boy.  She tells Mama only that while Efrain’s out of town, Mikey’ll be in charge of the rancho—more like fetching for the rancho, which in my book, translates to being Effer’s gofer.  (Dunno. Sounds pretty risky even giving Mikey that to do!)  Well, aren’t they dating now?  Maripaz says not particularly and if and when anything major happens, Mama will definitely be the first to know!  In the meantime, stop playing 20 questions!

After lunch, Nessa and Sin head down the street and giggle about what a good looking dude Gus is.  “—Don’t forget you’re engaged now!”  “—No harm looking at the menu!”  Sin totally ignores Effer who’s there as her personal chauffeur, scratching his dirty, sweaty neck or his balls for all Sin cares.   She is totally oblivious to him on the way out of the restaurant as Vainie and she giggle like teenyboppers over the length of Gus’s eyelashes [pestañas].  (His best and only good feature IMNSHO).

Across town, Mersnotty’s and Gus arrive home.  She’s all Chatty Cathy over this new, very attractive, elegant female friend of his.  Definitely upper crust!  Yes, Sis, and they’ve even exchanged cell phone numbers.  Good, cuz Gus, you’ve got to try going out with new girls!  He suddenly frowns.  Big Sis has stepped in it again.  Gus deflates and is very negatively sigh-and-frown-impactado.

Back at the hacienda, Dani is on the phone with AP and has told her about the nasty firing kerfuffle with Vainessa. Pau blames herself for all Dani’s problems, and says she’ll try helping.  Dani remains emotionally strong, and emphasizes she doesn’t want or expect a thing from AP.  Once Pau hangs up, Ro-hell asks her who she’d thought to help.  Pau mentions how Vainessa threw poor unsuspecting Dani out on her asset-less backside.  (Yeah, after being dumped by Doofus at Pau’s wedding, no less. Let’s hope the diosito has a reward of a real man and an even realer wallet in the not-to-distant future for Blondie.)  Oh-Hell offers to send Dani cash and give her a recommendation to a buddy of his there. It’s not her fault he married her best friend instead of the boss’s daughter, he says.  Pau says money won’t be necessary (I say speak for yourself, sister!) but the reco will be very welcome.  The two of them start to open up a bit and talk about their friendships with Dani and Bruno.  Bruno’s relationship changed over time, Rog says.   Bruno was once his friend, later a marriage prospect for his sister, and then he ended up Rog’s employee.   Why did they become so distant, she asks.  Rog explains that Bruno resented his buying their family’s hacienda.  His father was in a bind and had to sell because he’d lost all his fortune gambling.

At the same time in Tuxtla, Thug Dude calls Bruno on his cell to tell him how he ran into Gus and that Gus recognized him.  Bruno’s pissed and reminds Thug Dude he was supposed to stay out of sight.  “--Well, it’s not that easy! I needed money, man.  Can’t you lend me a hand [o’ cash]?”  (Now that’s rich.  The crook needs money and is reduced to purloining purses to get his pesos, but yet he can afford a cell phone?  Something’s wrong with this picture.)  Bruno, stingy attorney, apparently hasn’t paid the poor felon what he promised?

Rog asks the Cupcake if she’d tell him what her boyfriend was like, now that they’ve started to get to know each other a bit better.  Our dimpled dollop of frosting on sweet-buns demurs and says it’s really too painful, that she’d rather not.  Oh-Hell, a bit embarrassed, says sure, he can understand and changes tack.  “I can imagine, but perhaps by opening up to me the memory will become less painful.”  Pau says she’s not so sure.  Ro-Hellio has officially turned into Ro-Mellow Yellow.  One look into the poor dude’s deeply pained eyes and you can tell how much pride he’s swallowed in choking out the next couple of sentences.  “—Awww, tell me.  Mmmm, w-w-what was it about him that won you over?”  Ana Paula’s expression doesn’t give him (or the rest of us) a clue.  Poor Ro-Hell.

In Daddy’s big office, behind Daddy’s big desk, Big Bad Ass Nessa has Sin hand her over the copy of the will.  Afterwards, she confides in Sin that the man she’d always thought to be the picture of perfection turns out to be no better than the rest of manhandling mankind.  He had a lover and cheated on Mama!!  (Gawd, I can’t imagine!! Why would Feddy be so cruel and thoughtless, after marrying the epitomy of matronal compassion, benevolence and spousal selflessness?  Hmmmm.  Anybody wonder what Elsie La Vaca might have hidden away in her gigantic walk-in?)  Sin lends Nessa a sophomoric shoulder to cry on.

At Hell-Fuerte, AP now has an answer for Rog.  She is reluctant to discuss the man she loves.  Despite the fact she’ll never see him again, she will always love him.  He is with her and will be till her dying day.  Rog politely asks her how long they dated.  Not long, she admits.  Oh, he says, from the great emotion she’d shown he thought surely they were engaged.  No, she admits, but what they shared was enough to know that she’ll never forget him and she could never love anyone else ever again.  A small chuckle escapes from Rog, and he excuses himself with a smile.  “--Sorry, but you’re so very young, Paula.  You say that now, but with time—“  “—No, I don’t believe so….My feelings won’t change.”  “—Alright.  But, could it be that you’re  saying this because he died and you idealized him?  Look, that usually happens when loved ones pass away.  We remember all the best things about them; we put them on a pedestal and we forget their defects.  I’m just saying.  You don’t think?”  She looks as if she could be thinking it through.  (What a salesman!  I am not worthy!) Rog allows himself a secret, knowing smile.  He’s seen the first crack in her armor.

Meantime, Sin tries to tell Nessa to forgive and forget.  After all, her daddy didn’t leave her mama and he does adore his little girl. He is also still alive!  She should take advantage of it. Sin sure can’t but wishes to gawd she could! Nessa tearfully insists that she can’t do it.  She feels emotionally pulled between supporting Mama and forgiving Daddy.  (Yep.  Sucks to be you, babe.)

That night, on her way back to the hotel (we suppose) Sin run’s into Effer who is trying his best to shower her with compliments and win back her lagging affections.  No luck.  She gives him grief over not being around when she nearly got attacked and robbed earlier.  What else is he there for, anyway? He was told to bring the truck around and drive her, he says. Doesn’t matter, she says, just as well he wasn’t there at the time.  Anyway, she’s going out with Big Dave tonight and enjoy the sites.  Effer reminds her she can go to all the fancy places she wants, but she’ll never have as good a time as in bed with him!  Just then Dave calls to say he’s working late and will have to cancel.  She gripes about him working so much.  He reminds her it’s to be able to spoil her more, all of which she repeats for Effer’s benefit.  She hangs up.  “--I will never be yours.” He brings up the “little engineer” she met. “--Guess I should just think about my Consuela.”  Yes, she snaps back.  “--Think about Consuela while you drive.  I’ve got to leave.  Let’s go!”   (Damn, is she cold!  She can be just as brutal as Bro-Hell!)

It’s dinnertime at Gus and Mersnotty’s.  She mentions over coffee that Esteban has gone back with his ex-wife.  Too bad, says Gus, cuz they’d have made a great couple.  Naw, they are just friends.  Just then Gus gets a call from Sin inviting him to dinner. Guau!

As for AP, she’s finishing up the exercise session with Rog.  (For the umpteenth time I’ve got to deflect my eyes as he arranges himself in bed.  The dude really needs to try some more fashion-worthy skivvies.  Anywhoo….) Rog now tells Pau he hopes she didn’t think that what they chatted about a while ago had an ulterior motive.  She quickly says she didn’t.  “--We agreed to be just friends and I appreciate and value your words” (of grizzled wisdom, dare I say).  In fact, she was happy that he’d brought it up.  It means he’s worried about her.   “—You have no idea just how much,” is his serious reply to which she is totally oblivious.  Yes, Cupcake’s actually in a good mood now.  She thanks him again for the book on riding because it’s been so interesting.  He mentions then that Margarito wants them to adopt him.  “—He’s such a bright little boy and so loving.  I would adopt him if I could.”  Well, then, says Rog, why don’t we?  Pau is wide-eyed impactada. “--What are you saying?”

At the same time, in the kitchen, Margarito is asking Maria if she knew his mother and father.  She knew his mother, but never learned who his daddy was.  (And this is important because????)  FF>>

Upstairs in Rog’s bedroom again, Cupcake says it’s just that she never thought he’d be one to protect Margarito.  Oh-Hell’s expression turns deeply serious as he flashes back to the day he (notably dressed in faded blue-jeans, pale blue shirt and off-white ten-gallon Stetson)  fell off his horse while trying to rescue the toddling two year-old M-grito from stampeding cows, only to be trampled himself and left paralyzed from the waist down.  (Viewerville still wonders how the toddler managed to escape.)  Oh-Hell returns to the present.  “—I have conflicting emotions about Margarito.”  “—But why?”  “—That’s not important now.”  His voice cracks just a bit.  “--So, what do you say. Do we adopt him?”

Turns out to be a double-date for Gus and Sin.  Esteban and Vainessa arrive and the girls are surprised to find out that Gus and Esteban are old friends.

Back at Hell-Fuerte, Pau confesses that she’s begun to see Rog in a different light, now that she realizes he does care about others.  Ro-Hello is becoming Ro-Jello again.  He looks down at his legs sheepishly.  He opens up to her in a way he never dared to before.  His eyes mist up.  “—Paula, help me.  Help me to be the man I once was.  I don’t want to be the beast that everyone fears anymore.  Help me to achieve it.”  The hellacious Beast-Man looks emotionally beaten and physically drained—so totally weak and helpless, sitting alone in that wheelchair.  AP is drawn to him.  She lifts his chin and forces him to look into her eyes.  She smiles back and says she’d love to help him become the generous and happy man he once was.  Maria has told her what he was like.  No, he says, Margarito describes him better: a big ogre!  No, Pau says, you were a very angry man, but you’re not that way now.   It makes me happy to see you like this, but we definitely can’t adopt him.  He takes her hand and says he doesn’t understand.  She pulls her hand away sharply.   “—We can’t lead him on when in a year we go our separate ways.  We can’t let him get his hopes up believing in a family when there really isn’t one.”

Back at the restaurant, Nessa corners Sin in the restroom and says Sin should talk!  She’s got two guys on the line here.  Shouldn’t she tell Gus she’s engaged?  Well, admits Sin, Dave’s got to work.  And, she’s lost out on so much in life, having to take care of her brother, that now she plans to make up for lost time.  She’s going to enjoy herself when and where she can till the wedding.

In his room again, Oh-Hell tells Pau she’s right.  Pau suggests they look for his mother or any of his relatives that might be around there.  Maria walks in at that point with refreshments and Rog mentions that Maria was the one who took the boy in when they left him at the hacienda.

Esteban asks his ex why so sad.  Oh, all the crap about her daddy, says she of the heavy-handed husband dump.  Gus looks over at Sin and remarks that relationships can be a real downer.  “--Sounds like you’ve been really hurt by one.”  He says yeah, but he’d rather forget her.  Sin says she’d like to help him forget.  Gus smiles mischievously when the double-entendre finally gob-smacks him between the eyes.

Maria tells her story: Mgrito was barely a baby.  She thought the mother was a friend of Nessa’s since it was their engagement party and a big celebration.  The mother left him with Maria while she supposedly went to the bathroom.  She never came back for him and she never returned.  AP says well, with a description perhaps somebody around there in town or the area would know something.  Too difficult.  Anyway, Maria had Ulises put a notice in his store window, but nobody ever responded.  Oh-Hell gripes and moans to himself.  “—Why did that woman ever have to come to my hacienda?  Why?”  AP looks over at him and ask why he sounds so enraged?  “--Because—!”  He stops himself.  “--Nothing.  It just gets me why she would abandon him like that.”

At the restaurant, the double-date is so much fun they decide to do it more often.  Sin wants to go dancing.  Nessa begs off.  She and Gus agree to go themselves, then.

Back in Rog’s room, he gives Pau a book he got as a boy from his daddy and tells Pau he wants her to give it to Mgrito.  Pau is touched by the gesture.  Rog then asks her if she thinks there could ever be anything more between them.  What do you mean, she naively asks. (Oh. Come. On.  You mean you really have no clue?)  He rolls over and looks her in the eye.  He confesses that he’s in love with her.  (How can you deny a set of dimples and dark brown puppy-dog eyes like that, girl?  Are you NUTZ?)

Esteban and Vainie return home.  He likes Sin, he says, but he can’t get over that she’s still Rogelio Montero’s sister.  Vainie says yeah, but she’s nothing like that jerk.  However, the company still has a contract with him and it can’t be undone.  Still have to do business with him.  Stevie looks like he isn’t so sure he believes that.

Meanwhile, Paula starts to dance around the subject. “--It wasn’t something I expected—“  “—It’s very simple.  Just a yes or a no.”   She can’t promise Rog anything right now.  Why, he asks, frustrated as all get out.  “—Why?  Because of my paralysis?”  No, she says.  Not at all!  The problem isn’t with him!  It’s with her!  What’s the problem, he asks.  She’s just so sure she’ll never love again, she answers.  “--But why don’t you at least try?  I am just as hurt as you, but even so, I am ready to do anything—even the impossible—because of all of the splendid nobility you bring out in me.” “—I don’t know what to say.  I didn’t get married thinking we’d ever be a couple.”  “—I never thought I’d ever feel anything again for anyone, but you made all of that change!”  Tears begin rolling down her cheeks. “—I guess then that I should tell you about me.  I never have forgotten the man I loved.”   “—It could be like I told you, that you did idealize him.”  “—No, he was really very special.”  All right, he says.  But, he’s not here now.  “—On the other hand, I am!  I am here, here opposite you.  Paula, I love you.  You can’t live for a memory of a dead man.”  “—I don’t know.  I need to think about it.”  (Holy frijole, Cupcake!  Get with the program already!)   Rog snickers a tad and then looks guardedly into her eyes once more.  “—What can you lose?”

At the club, we are treated to a bit of Tuxtla-style Fred and Ginger ala 2012 as Gus shows us he can really bust a move.  Sin shows she knows how to follow his lead.  They flirt throughout.  He compliments Sin on her dancing prowess.  Sin says it’s all in the company she keeps.  Or maybe it’s vice verse.  Anyway, they are taken by the moment and the moment screams, “Mouth-meld!”  They do and suddenly for Gus it’s Ana Paula who??

Ro-Hell continues trying to persuade AP to give him the green light.  “—You ought to give yourself a chance to dream and hope again, to feel a reason to smile, like I smile because of you.  And if it doesn’t work out, then, at the end of the contract we each go our separate ways.”   Well, for all Pau knows, Gus is dead and done for.   She thinks it over and all that Rog has just said to her.  (I love this guy’s maturity.  --Awww, who am I kidding?  I love those dimples and dark brown eyes!)  “—Ok.  Let’s give it a try.”  Ro-Hell rolls up, caresses her face and assures her she won’t regret it.  He bends in for The Kiss.  Neither set of dimples can resist the magnetic pull of the other.  And…..Viewerville, we have contact!  This kiss is not to miss!

Good Morning Jardinera and congrats on your grandson's first birthday, and chorizo yum. Please take your time, looking forward to your recap.

For a moment there I thought you were really making chorizo.

Jardinera-your recaps are worth the wait! Happy First B'day to your nieto!

I'm with Audrey, are you really making chorizo from scratch or are you making already made chorizo and having it for breakfast? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm guessing that "still making chorizo" means she's still working on her recap.

Think I'll run to the store, I want chorizo with my recap.

Audrey-
What a bozo I am. I reread it and of course. I'd blame it on being early here, but I'm a morning person and this is usually my time of day.

In the meantime, I want to thank Elvira, Alexandra and 5 ft. for the funny, witty and informative recaps these past 3 days. I didn't get a chance to comment but have been enjoying the show, recaps and comments from all.

Looking forward to your recap, Jardinera.
Well, I have to say my Spanish skills are stretched to the limit because Friday night's episode had no CC's. Not in Spanish or Ingles. Well, one unimportant conversation had CCs. That was it. Why is that happening?
To answer Urban and the others mystified why ET is getting so much more attention, I think ET is now on a better viewing time, and it is fun to make fun of it, it is so bad. I am giving up on ET, I just don't have time, so I watch nothing at night and record Podia and watch it the next morning.

Hey, Cathyx, for a moment there I was convinced she was truly making chorizo.

Emarie-
I wonder if the fact that so many of us stopped watching El Talisman here, if it's any indication that that show will not do well. Maybe they will move it to the middle of the night like they've done in the past with shows that aren't highly watched.

I think the ET folks are having a grand old time ragging on the novela. But if you read the comments, you'll see that half the posters aren't even watching it. And many comments are jokes about dangling avocados or hoopla over Anita's "store".

Quite a few watchers just couldn't take it anymore and dropped out this week - from actually watching, that is. I suspect the comments party will last quite a while longer.

Audrey

Looking forward to your recap, Jardinera. Meanwhile, here is a link to a dump of the caption data from the episode. I wrote a program last weekend, while snowbound, to pull them out of the data stream and dump them to a web page. I have found them useful, since I cannot get them to display on screen, and maybe others can make use of them as well.

If you buy chorizo, make sure you read the ingredients. I recall seeing some once that began with "salivary glands, lymph nodes, and tongue trimmings". At least they disclosed it...

Wow GatoViejo, I'm impressed.

Sorry now I didn't tape the show.

GatoViejo:

Wow. Your program knocks my socks off. This is a recappers dream, esp with the English translations side by side with the Spanish captions. Does your program work for other TN's?

Again, wow!

Thanks for doing this and sharing it as well.

Whoa, GatoViejo,
this is great! Wish I had this for every episode!

GatoViejo: I love you! Will this be available for every episode? My Spanish CCs are always complete garbage and even seeing them after the fact will help me pick up vocab.

YWIMC. I reorganized a bit and made this new link which should always take you to the latest episode. There is also a link for looking at older ones (there is a week's worth there now).

My local broadcast ends at 10PM Mountain time so I should be able to get the latest episode uploaded by 10:30.

Elna June: there is no technical reason why this would not work with any TN that has the closed caption data. Someday, if I can get this process to work on full automatic I may branch out to others that I don't watch. For now, since some manual intervention is required, I am just sticking to the one.

Yes, I'm lazy. That's why I make the computer do this stuff for me. You recappers are amazing in your dedication and hard work; I just hope these transcripts are helpful in some small way.

So, it looks like Margarito is Rogelio's son. I suppose I should have seen that one coming.

¡Gracias! Gato Viejo. I can't believe this. Now I can read the whole thing back and see exactly what I missed (which is most of it)

GatoViejo: There are just not enough thank yous in the world for this!!!!!!! I am so excited right now.

As for M-grito as Rohell's son: I don't know why, but I was a little disappointed with Rohell about that. Wasn't he with Vainy at the time? Why was he rolling around in the hay with the other woman? I know-- I shouldn't be surprised by his douchebaggery.....

I love how the Spanish CCs mention "pestañas" that magically become "eybrows" in English....delicious ones at that.lol. I saw that Friday night, but wasn't paying attention to the Spanish.

Jardinera, I have been waiting with bated breath, and now I am out of breath from laughing my head off. This is the best writing!!!! I copied down so many quotes, but these ones are my faves:

"Sin, having passed Big Sis’s snoot’n smell test"
"And…..Viewerville, we have contact!  This kiss is not to miss!"

as for: "...[pestañas].  (His best and only good feature IMNSHO)." I Totally Agree.
—and—
"(Something tells me Rosie was never even on Feddy’s radar screen!)" YES!

Gracias, Jardinera, and hope your nieto's birthday was a blast.

Great going here, with all the encouragement for Cupcake Eyre and her Sr. Rochester. This ends on a great note for Lunes.

I must compliment the series writers on creating yet another mystery: What happened to Rogelio's mother whom nobody has said anything about yet. Did she abandon them at some point? Rogelio could be Margarito's father, but was he also abandoned by his mother? And what did happen to Margarito's mother, anyway? Did she commit suicide, get murdered, disappear? Can't wait to find out.

Jardinera--As I expected: worth the wait.

I particularly liked:
"Gawd, I can’t imagine!! Why would Feddy be so cruel and thoughtless, after marrying the epitomy of matronal compassion, benevolence and spousal selflessness?" Why indeed.

Like you, I sort of avert my eyes during terapia scenes. Couldn't they have put him in sweats and a pair of socks? His legs are so pale and I don't like anyone's bare feet.

I actually kind of liked Sin in this episode.

It is not a kiss to miss...in fact I'm about to go re-watch the episode now.

Thanks, Jardinera; excellent work as always.

I suspect we have not seen the last of Margarito's mom; there will be an appropriately inopportune moment at some point.

And Sara, it looked to me like Margarito-ito was maybe two years old when they showed up at the engagement part so there may not have been overlap between Vanesa and Margarito-mom (Margarita?).

Jardinera: A terrific recap; really worth waiting for.

What I really like about this telenovela is that is rings psychologically true in regard to both dimples. She is very young, naive, idealistic, and her feelings seem very real to me. He is really acting like a grownup --putting his feelings on the line and wooing her, rather than forcing her or manipulating her. I also like the fact that they have begun to really talk; share their thoughts and feelings, and their past lives. I have a feeling as the novela progresses we will find that many of the reasons for Rohell's bad behavior have some validity or are at least understandable form his pov (i.e. Margaro causing his accident, the truth about Bruno's hacienda, his lack of confidence in Cynthia). And I still like the fact that he doesn't burst her bubble re Tia, and tries to help the people who are important to Paula. I didn't like the adoption thing about Margarito, which seemed manipulative, as did his trying to find out why her novia "conquered" her.

The way the arc of this is going I think that Paula and Gustavo will be meeting soon. I think the writers really had to make inroads in her feelings for Rohell before she could come in contact with gustavo again. Otherwise she would have no conflict about leaving Rogelio. Now that she has given her word to trying for a relationship, has really kissed him, and is beginning to have feelings for him, it's not going to be so easy. I think for the most part these writers are doing a good job, as are the actors.

If Rohell is not the father of Margarito, which it seems like he is, could it be his father? I didn't watch from the beginning and am not sure when his father actually died and Rohell took over.

I don't recall ever seeing Rogelio's father, but the possibility that Rogelio and Margarito might be brothers is interesting, and one I had not considered. If that's the case, though, I don't know why the mom would have bolted once she heard about the engagement.

Thank you so much Jardinera, this was so worth the wait. Loved the line about Mersnotty and passing the sniff test lol. So now we know why Rohell was paralyzed. And poor baby Margarito. Rohell had a heart of gold, maybe he will get it back.

Loved the kiss of Sin and Gus. Gus has a lot of chemistry with Sin. I'm thinking Sin is going to kick Dave to the curb. Besides Gus is way better looking and a better person than Dave any day.

Poor Cupcake has idealized Gus so much she can't see the forest through the trees. I think Rohell is really falling in love with her, but it will take her a year to see it. I don't know if they should adopt Margarito, but I think it is a good start that they think about it and keep on teaching him and showing him love. Except for Maria he hasn't had any solid family. I don't know if Rohell is the baby daddy but to me it seems Effer might be. We all know how Effer is lol.

I am glad the Tia is going back to Tuxtla, but poor Fed. We all know she is going there. Hopefully the news that the Cupcake is his daughter doesn't kill him. He never knew the Tia's sister was pregnant so I wonder how he will take this, and if he knows what the Tia is really like, and how will the Vainy one take it. The Vainy one I think will never take it. She will be on search and destroy mission.

What a sweet episode this one was. Thank you for fitting this recap into your obviously busy weekend.
I really hope AP means it when she says she'll try with Rogelio. And I agree with you about those puppy dog eyes. How do you say no to those? I wonder if they will start sharing a bed together now.
I'm guessing that Margarito is not Rohelio's real son. I have nothing to base that on except just a feeling. And if the story that Rog told about how his father acquired Bruno's family land is true, then he's in the clear about that. I'm also hoping that AP has enough time to totally fall for Rog before Gus makes an appearance. Maybe even actually have sex with him. If she doesn't, then she simply will not give Rog a chance.

Fantastic job Jardinera! I also can go for some chorizo about now...yum. I thought you were serious about making it from scratch.
Our local health food store sell SOYRIZO which is very good ..believe it or not.

So glad Tia is leaving the Hacienda, but hope she doesn't end up killing poor Fed, between Tia, Bug eyes & Vainess the guy doesn't have much of a chance.

My 21 year old daughter saw Rogelio and Cupcake kissing and remarked "eeewwwww, he is WAY too old for her..gross"

My feelings exactly and I loved Carlos calling him and old coot in a wheelchair! Just dont get what all the ladies see in him, I find him lukewarn, certainly not HOT !
Now put FC in that chair...HUBBA HUBBA different story!

elle,
ja,ja, FC is 2 years older than JS. I don't think your 21 year old daughter would appreciate him either. He is my true love however. I don't think FC has been a father of anything but small children, but Pedtro Moreno in Familia at 30 is the father of a 20 year old. TN's have a real problem with the age thing.

I hope Rogelio & AP get it on before Gus enters the picture, pregnancy would help the situation, for Rogelio at least.

Jardinera- Superb recap and I love the title.

Gato Viejo- Long time no see! Those transcripts are really cool.

Uhm, you can wish all you want, but the writers were definitely putting a big old arrow over Rogelio's head as Margarito's daddy. The woman came there specifically asking for Rogelio, no one else. Then she freaked when she heard he was celebrating his engagement. Yep, he's the daddy.

I do like that the writers have given us a bit more reason and complexity to the reason why Rogelio emotionally abused (yes, that's what it was) Margarito. He partially blames him for the accident and so sort of hates him on some level. It will be quite the shock when he finds out he's his kid.

Once scene that you glossed over that I also found interesting was when Vain and Sin were talking about Fed, and Sin pointed out wistfully that not only is Vain's dad alive (unlike hers), but that he's always been loving and caring with her (unlike her father, is the impression I got). From what we've heard, it seems like Papa Montero was proud of his male child, and cold and distant with his daughter (and well as being a male chauvinist). This may have a lot to do with her personality.

I also appreciated the difference between Rogelio's beliefs about love and heartbreak, vs AP's very young point of view. But he also has to acknowledge that it took him 8 long years to get over Vain, and she didn't die. So he can't expect AP to immediately be ready for relationship #2.

Maybe vainy is the kid's mom. She was preg at the time of the accident and didn't want anything of Rohill? is that food for thought?

Vario Are you talking about the Enzo character? 'Cause yeah, I really can't see him as Moni's dad. He looks way too young to be her dad. It's one of the few times I've been unable to suspend my disbelief. There's no beanie strong enough for that bit of casting.

Jardinera: Thank you. Great.

Gato Viejo: I have missed a few beats - are you automatically translating the captions?

Sara, yes Enzo. The whiskers make him look a little older. He was recently in a magazine w/o whiskers & he definitely looks 30.

nj sue- Cynthia mentioned some episodes back that their father died not too long after Rogelio's accident. We've not heard anything about the mom. I get the feeling she died long ago. But perhaps she just got the hell out of Dodge and dumped Papa Montero.

Thank you for this excellent recap! Love the snark as usual, in particular Mersnotty's "sniff test." I think she needs to have her sniffer rechecked, though!

Re: Rohell being the baby daddy of Margarito. NO SPOILERS, this is what I noticed when I first saw this episode. The mom looked ill. She had bags under her eyes. I felt when I first saw it that this was the reason why she visited. She wasn't long for this world. (Again, no spoilers, this is just what I immediately thought when I saw this ep.)

As for the timeline of Rohell (assuming Rohell is the baby daddy) knocking up Margarito's momma and getting engaged to Vainessa, I don't know how old Margarito was in that, but over a year? And then we account for 9 months of pregnancy? Who knows what might have separated Rohell and baby momma (assuming again that he is baby daddy), but he could have easily had time to start dating Vainessa and get engaged to her, after he and baby momma went their separate ways (if they did so soon after she became pregnant). Of course I don't know how long Rohell and Vain dated. I do recall that Sin said that Vain was her best friend before she started dating Rohell, so presumably Rohell knew Vain for a long time, even before they started dating. So they may have had a shorter dating period before getting engaged.

I laugh that they actually did specifically mention Gus's eyelashes! That is hilarious! "Oh he with the beautiful eyelashes" is what I call him! LOL.

As for Rohell's age, sometimes he looks older, sometimes he doesn't. It doesn't bother me as much as that guy in Familia only being 30 and the father of a 20-year-old! Rohell's puppydog eyes and dimples make up for a lot! He may be an old coot (LOL, love that!), but at least he's an attractive old coot, and with his dimples and excellent bone structure, is likely to stay very attractive well into his AARP years. I'm just saying.

Thanks Vivi for the info on Rogelio's dad. I realized that Margarito's mother seemed upset to hear that the party was celebrating Rogelio's engagement to Vanessa, but thought that Maria would have known her if she were involved with Rogelio. Also he made some comment when Maria was telling the story that indicated that he was angry that she left the kid. I got the sense that it was more than just a general displeasure at her doing it. IU felt that he knew her and why.I think JS's acting has been very specific and transparent. I think that if he knew the child was his, we would have been given a clue by something in his acting. But who knows???? I could be completely off base and maybe the child is his but he has no idea. Or maybe his mother abandoned him and cinthia (as Vivi pointed out we dont know anything about her) and he was reacting to that.

Elle, my 21-year-old self would have killed to change places with Ana Brenda for that kiss. I was into older men because guys my age couldn't handle my GPA.

Since we've had flashbacks I hope we get one of Papa Montero to get a picture of what he was all about. I'm picturing someone with very outdated attitudes and a very limited worldview. Which could have driven his wife away.

Jardinera, thanks so much for another masterpiece! Loved the "Gentleman Gus" and "Galahad Gus" references. Also, so glad we got to visit TOHIT again with this show--LOL

Also,
"Mikey’ll be in charge of the rancho—more like fetching for the rancho, which in my book, translates to being Effer’s gofer. " Agree!

"Pau gives that irritatingly spoiled, bored, complacent teen-aged-girl look."
Though I love the Cupcake, I knew the look you meant immediately! What a perfect description.

"One look into the poor dude’s deeply pained eyes and you can tell how much pride he’s swallowed in choking out the next couple of sentences."
Yes, Rohell was really working hard to walk (roll?) thru this minefield carefully. And then, by the end of the show, I think he is just so filled up with his feelings for AP he just couldn't keep them inside anymore.

nj sue, "And I still like the fact that he doesn't burst her bubble re Tia,'
Me too, I like that he's got Tia's number but doesn't say a word to Paula. Though that actually is good strategy on his part as well.

Vivi, "The woman came there specifically asking for Rogelio, no one else".
I'm not sure, but I think Maria cut her off before she said who she was looking for? I'm with Cathyx, I'm leaning toward M-grito not being Rohell's son. Maybe his brother. Madelaine's thought of Effen being the father is interesting.

GatoViejo, thanks for the link! What a nice resource.

Sinthia, you go girl! She needs a 3 ended candle to burn!

Since the woman never told Maria her name before she took off, I don't think Rogelio has any idea that Marg is his. I am guessing that she will appear again to get the truth of Marg's parentage out in the open. I think it will make Rogelio's already complicated feelings for Margarito even more complicated.

She didn't get a chance to say she was there for Rogelio, but she asked three times, in a shocked/surprised voice, if this was the engagement party for Rogelio after Maria mentioned it. That says to me that's who she was looking for.

From Gato Viejo's transcript:
•Eres una invitada a la fiesta de compromiso con Rogelio, ¿verdad?
•¿compromiso ¿compromiso de Rogelio?
•Sí, claro. Io?Í, ya, promiso con Rogelio, ¿verdad?
•¿compromiso de Rogelio?

Love this recap Jardinera. What a kiss too. Rog laid in on thick. What girl could resist those dimples and puppy dog eyes indeed.

I guess Cinthia wants to find out if Gus can dance as good in bed as he does on the dance floor. AP who LOL.

This is just speculation, but I'm beginning to think that Rog may be Margarito's father. When the boy asked Maria about his parents, she told him she knew nothing about his father and the next scene cut to Rog.

I too wonder how did Margarito survive that stampede myself.

Vivi, I'm hoping that M-Grito's mom's surprise is a red herring. For some reason, I'm not keen on the idea of the kid being Rohell's son.

What is Rohell's dad's name. If it was Rohell, I mean Rogelio, maybe this woman thought the dad was getting married. This assumes that Rohell's mom was properly out of the picture--dead or divorced?

Pasofino: No, I don't translate the captions; there are two caption streams (one Spanish, one English) in the broadcast data. Both are time-tagged (per line). I just extract them, attempt to reassemble whole sentences and set them side by side.

Since the two streams are independent and asynchronous (I imagine two typists separately flailing away) The program cannot reliably synchronize them. So, to minimize the drift between the languages. I group them into 15 second blocks and set those side by side. You will notice that you sometimes need to look up or down one block to find corresponding pieces of dialog. This is why.

Thanks, Jardinera. Hope that your grandbaby's b'day was one-derful. Every time I look at AP, I can't help thinking ..Kardashians?...Marlo Thomas. The age difference between her and Oh-Hell is jarring, but that's novelas for you. Just keep your disbelief suspended. I am not happy about the Gus/Sin pairing. Sin is such a maneater, and Gus is such a tasty little male cupcake.

Too bad Gus is such a nice guy. He won't be able to enjoy the revenge factor in boinking the hated ex-boss' fiancee.

Susanlynn, "Gus is such a tasty little male cupcake"
True!

GatoViejo, "He won't be able to enjoy the revenge factor in boinking the hated ex-boss' fiancee."
True! Cupcakes don't do revenge.

I personally think that Gustavo could redeem Sinthia if he's truly over Ana Paula.

But all hell will break loose when Rogelio finds out he is the ghost he's been competing with.

Hi all! Thanks and glad you all liked the finished "chorizo". LOL! Wish I could make that stuff! Hubby makes Swedish potato sausage and that's the closest I get to the production end of stuff.

I was wondering if Rog is a Jr. or not myself. My interpretation of the abandonment scene was only that as the richest hacienda in the part of the world, she was leaving her child there rather than an orphanage which might have been too far away. She could have been a distant relative or an unfortunate conquest of either Effer or Rog. My thought when he spoke angrily about why the woman had to come to his hacienda was only that 2 yrs. later it resulted in his paralysis and run of bad luck after trying to save him from the stampede. I guess I was too straight-laced in my interpretation, huh.

Gato Viejo: I wish my brain worked like that.

Thanks, Jardinera, for the excellent recap. Lots of great analysis and snark for our entertainment.

I'm so impressed with GatoViejo's data dump of the captions. What a treasure!

La Paloma

Oh Jardinera: It's a gloomy Monday but your recap made it feel as though the sun were shining brightly and birds were chirping. This was incredible and a delight from beginning to end.

I love your comments: "... there’s an immediate attraction for each other which is made obnoxiously obvious by the uber-long screen shots of their googly-eyed grinning from ear to ear at each other" and "Sin totally ignores Effer who’s there as her personal chauffeur, scratching his dirty, sweaty neck or his balls for all Sin cares" had me chuckling and agreeing.

ITA that "JR had his best on-screen chemistry with pretty charming pretty Carmen". I'm still hoping they end up together - they are the most suited.

I was surprised and pleased at the Cin/Gus pairing but she is cool, scheming and manipulative and he is not. I just don't see them together long term but applaud the storyline nevertheless.

I fell asleep and missed the last 15 minutes which I gather was the best part of the show.Sigh.

Jardinera, thank you! You've made my day once again.

Diana

Jardinera-I sort of took it the child abandonment scene the same way.

Obviously M-grito's parentage is something important. Guess we'll have to wait to find out the dirty details.

If Rohell is the father, I wonder why he never claimed him. I mean, a guy usually knows if he's been rolling around in the hay with someone and surely with Maria's description some sort of bell would have gone off in Rohell's memory.

In the case of M-grito: Everyone is culpable of emotional abuse. Sin treated him like crap in the one interaction we saw (and she only softened up to get info), Effer offered to take him off and work him "muy duro" in episode 2 and Maria stood by and let it all happen for years.

Dear Jardinera and all recappers,

Thanks so much for your hard work and funny, thoughtful recaps. I'm still chuckling at Ro-hell to Ro-jello at the moment.

Since move to 10, I'm hopelessly behind and rarely comment anywhere near day of issue. But still appreciating the recaps and everyone's comments.

J - Can't believe it's been a year since your little grandson's birth. Hope the celebration was excellent for all.

Thankyou all for the well-wishes re: Liam. I can't believe it's been an entire year, myself! However, now that we're past this mile-marker--like any self-respecting abuela, I'm pushing for #2 and #3 nieto. LOL!

Lol! I'm still in the "pushing for a yerno" stage of my daughter's life. She is distressingly independent. Lol

Thanks Jardinera for good laughs with your snarky recap - love the side commentary!

I'm afraid I am in the camp of not finding AP and Rogel attractive as a couple due to the visible age difference. Dimples, or no, to me Rogelio is the old coot in the wheelchair. At 44 (JS's real age) JS looks old for his age - his face is so lined and worn/droopy. Is he a smoker in real life? My husband's face at 50 looked way younger. Another comparison would be Rafael Novoa (Pedro in TN) who is 42. That's what a healthy 40-young man looks like, even when some gray is creeping into the hair.

The story would have been more believable with an actor that looked say 35 max onscreen. The longer I watch this TN, the older Rogel looks to me - and I think it's because AP is next to him so much now. It just gets to be a bit of a turnoff with AP appearing so young in spite of JS's incredible acting skill. Another way to solve the problem would have been to cast an older-looking actress for AP so the contrast wasn't so starck.

I'm still really enjoying the TN very much. And Tia Mentirosa may be the first TN villainess that I really enjoy. I just love her conniving self LOL!

Audrey

Unfortunately, JS is a smoker. I dearly hope he kicks the habit sooner rather than later. He also needs to have that hairline taken care of. He'd also look a little younger if he'd wear some blue and red instead of 100% black.

Some cosmetic dental work would do wonders as well. that tar & nicotine isn't helping his gum line any. Anybody still smoking after 35 really ages fast.

Wow, ladies, way to kill a Jorge Salinas buzz, lol. (I'm just kidding) I guess because I'm older that I find him quite attractive, even after pointing out his nicotine stained teeth, bad hairline, and wrinkles. I do get the problem with age differences, that's why I quit watching El Talisman. I just found it too unbelievable.

What an entertaining recap, Jardinera.
I've just now finished reading all the comments.

Pirate Babe, I tend to think like you:

"When the boy asked Maria about his parents, she told him she knew nothing about his father and the next scene cut to Rog."

Case closed.

Thing is, Rog is sure being coy about the whole matter.

Happy birthday to young Liam... he's certainly got a great grandma for telling him stories.

So who was supposed to be watching Margarito at the time of the stampede? And even now they let the cattle amble across the front lawn. Anyone ever hear of fences?

Carlos

Maybe free-range makes for better beef?

Anyway, I'm on a forum elsewhere where photos of our galans are very appreciated. Someone just commented positively the other day about the smile lines near his eyes.

My bet is that somebody is going to make him look younger by the end of the series because he'll be transformed by Ana Paula's love.

Audrey: While JS was filming this TN, he was in and out of the hospital, at one point collapsing and being taken by ambulance. He was close to death. When he was asked why he kept working he replied he had a contract to fulfill. When he married Elizabeth Alvarez, he also had an ambulance standing by. This could be the reason he looks haggard.

Thanks for that reminder. Here's hoping he gets better as Rogelio gets better.

You will all love tonight's episode.

May I ask where you are finding the episodes online for this series ( to see in advance)? It is not on YouTube. Daily Motion does not have it either.

Thank you.

@UA & Novelera: "My bet is that somebody is going to make him look younger by the end of the series because he'll be transformed by Ana Paula's love."

We can only hope. I'm sorry to hear this about his health, but his appearance on screen mirrors the character's condition. You don't sit in a wheelchair for 7 years without it's taking a big toll. I'm hoping for a positive change by story's end.

And, as for smoking, I consider it a life-changing (and saving) miracle that I managed to quit. It is the hardest thing in the world to do.People who are struggling with this have all my support and understanding.

vertelenovelas.net. Not everything is there but I'm grateful for what I can find.

On another note, how does Univision's transmission come in to the rest of you? My picture is so dark that it always look like day-for-night shooting.

Shout out to Gato Viejo from Audrey's household.

Wow - we're so grateful that your snowbound self took on automatically generating the transcript. How do you even get the data off the TV into your computer to be able to extract the CC feed?

My husband looked at your web page source code and was very impressed with your elegant use of style sheets. As he had never even heard of XSL he didn't know some of the things you did were possible! "I guess I'm out of touch!" says DH.

In some scenes , he didn't look good so that probably does explain his aged appearance.

I completely agree with this. I really don't have a problem with the age difference.

Regarding JS's haggard appearance, yes, I also think it had to do with him getting increasingly stressed out and ill as filming progressed.

I grabbed this screenshot from a previous episode. I don't think the lighting is all that forgiving, yet he doesn't look that old here: Link. Or here, from episode 3. Yes, he looks "older," and his smoking is no doubt a major contributor to that, but somehow he's looking more tired as the episodes progress and I recall finding that noticable when I first started watching this show.

I've added a special pair of shades to my TN beanie. They flip down to shield my eyes from Jorge/Rohell's signs of aging, enveloping him in a golden glow that lets me enjoy his smile and puppydog eyes.
La Paloma

I can usually tell if someone is a smoker by the look of the complexion, especially women.

Guaranteed, Rogelio will wear a white suit in the church wedding with AP, WALKING down the aisle.

I thought it odd that Esteban didn't know Cinthia. Cinthia didn't go to her best friends wedding? I think they might have explained it in the conversation but I had a hard time understanding it. Maybe Cinthia was pissed at her dumping her brother or Rogelio forbid her going.

I suspect that Sinthia would have been royally peeved with Vainessa for having jilted her brother and would have not attended her wedding.

Rogelio will walk down the aisle.

I think we also have a story without a regular Padre.

So sorry to hear of JS's medical problems. As for age, I am terrible at guessing ages. Also, so many people look younger or older than their years. When I met Hub, he was 16, and he already had a little steak of white hair in the front of his black hair. Then, someone pointed out his mother to me at a baseball game, and I said, ''You must mean his grandmother.'' She had pure white hair. His grandfather also had a head of frosty white hair. Hub was salt and pepper by the time he was 30 and completely white by his 40s. Some people have mistakenly thought that he was my father....we are the same age. However, he doesn't smoke, so if people look at his face instead of the white hair, they can tell that he is younger. My dad on the other hand still had dark hair when he died at 80, but being outside working on the farm and being a smoker made his face look older. However. people always thought he was younger than he was. My mother didn't quit smoking until she was 89. She died at 90. Although she lived a long life without many medical problems, she had very sallow, wrinkled skin. My sister smoked , too. I just was looking at a picture of her at age 40. She is rail thin, pale, and her red hair looks brown. She looked haggard and ill. Then, her husband died of lung cancer at 50, and my sister quit smoking cold turkey. She gained weight , her hair returned to its red color , and her skin became healthylooking. Oddly, even though my parents and sister smoked, I never did because the friends I hung around with did not smoke. As a high school teacher, I noticed that kids are more influenced by their peers' behavior and habits than that of their families.

I finally had time to finish your recap, wonderful, thank you!
I don't see any reason to assume Mgrito is Rohell's. I think this has Effer written all over it.

I'm still a total sucker for Ana/Rogelio, age difference notwithstanding. I think their chemistry is great, and that kiss at the end of Friday's episode sealed the deal for me. But then, Jane Eyre/Mr. Rochester are one of my favorite parejas of all time, even when I was a teenager ;)

I'm really hoping they make it all the way to the end in this one (or in tn fashion, get back together at the end of all the trials and tribulations that I assume are in store for them... it's still pretty early in the story).

TEAM ROG!

Any references to Rog's walking by the end of this tn I believe are speculative, right? We don't know, but if the tn formula is followed he probably will be and we'll know something's up if he ever decides to start wearing colorful clothing again.

Anonymous, you can see all episodes here: http://laquenopodiaamartv.blogspot.com/

I found this site when they took the episodes off of Daily Motion.

Be careful, though... it also has episodes a lot farther ahead than where we are currently in the US, so if you're not a spoiler person you may want to be sure not to "accidentally" look ahead :)

AnotherAmy

Elegant is right, you Old Cat! there's nothing there but the text and a link to your stylesheet and a couple of enclosing tags. Beautiful. We should all write such clean and accessible code.

Thanks for that link. The one I was using didn't have Monday's episode and I thought I'd be up the creek.

"I think this has Effer written all over it."
----
I have no idea who the progenitor of M-grito is, but that line just cracked me up.

As for Rohell walking: the esmas site includes in its "personajes" page the info that Mersnotty has known Ernesto, a spinal specialist since forever. It was part of the elenco post I did. Hopefully not a spoiler, just a reminder of info we know.

PS: I love the older guy/younger gal pair up. Like UA, younger me would have been all over it, too.

I agree that the "older man" thing is working for me. I actually think it works in the storyline, because as we see, Gus is moving on quite nicely with Sinthia. Does anyone believe that the old coot in the wheelchair would bounce back in the same way? Plus, he's no longer got that starry-eyed (unrealistic) idealism in him. These are all important contrasts between Rohell and Gus.

There are some scenes where Rohell/JS looks just a little too tired (it seemed like I noticed it more starting with the wedding and afterwards). But even so, he's such a good actor, it isn't a bother for me.

The same issue came up with Guy Ecker in "Eva Luna." I think the age difference between him and Blanca Soto may have been 18-19 years. Now, Guy Ecker doesn't (I presume) smoke, and he looks fabulous for his age, but sometimes there was a scene shot which made his neck look old and stringy. It should have been so easy to avoid such shots with softer lighting and so forth.

As for JS, I've been noticing that he has less flattering shots as the show progresses. (This becomes noticeable to me especially, I guess, because I'm doing screencaps for my recap.) I think it's just that the poor guy was getting more and more tired and overworked, and was revving up for getting deathly ill. (I heard that he had an 80% of NOT SURVIVING. My goodness!)

But here in an earlier episode, with more flattering lighting, he could pass for late 30s, I think: Like here. The lighting is so kind to him here.

- Elvira

Yes, I think we are watching JS getting sick because it is very obvious to me now. I heard about his pulmonary embolism during the novela which was very sad and he was very lucky to survive it.

Audrey

I was into older men when I was in college and for a couple of years thereafter. It's not a leap of logic that a student with a high GPA would want someone more mature and way less insecure than 90% of the guys her own age.

I don't think Cupid pays much attention to looks or age; just look at Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. They're farther apart in looks and age, I think.

I think JS is handsome, but I would have guessed that he was in his early fifties.

Now I hate to think of him with smoker's breath. That kiss just isn't the same anymore!

Aleta

Thank you very much for the information about the online links.

Indeed it all started with a pneumonia which JS caught, probably because of the scene they filmed when he fell into the water to save AP.

He eventually got cured of the pneumonia, but because of his weak immune system and the huge amount of work which made him tired (he was in the play Perfume de Gardenia by that time also), the illness developed into something more serious. Being a workaholic, he left the hospital several times to work on the telenovela, despite the doctor's advice and even got married, because he insisted that the date should be left unchanged, since he made a promise to Elizabeth. Of course, she wanted to cancel the whole thing, but he didn't want to. He had an ambulance outside the venue where they were celebrating, just in case. Several pictures from the party showed him STILL smoking cigarettes and eventually he was hospitalized for a third time and that illness was almost fatal.
