Una Familia Con Suerte #107-108 Thu 2/2/12 Pancho actually lets Chela be a big girl and go on a date.

In Repeatsville, Pancho tries to wield the heavy hammer of narcissistic patriarchy and Chela tells him where to shove it. The kids agree that Pancho has no business arranging Chela’s playdates and keeping her off the dangerous big-kid slide and cutting her meat. She isn’t a little kid, let her live her own life.
Meanwhile, Pina sobs wretchedly and asks Vins if he’s really going to leave, when she’s pregnant and Freddie has just lost his best friend. He doesn’t know, but he’s definitely sleeping in the guest room.
Next day, Adoración plays hooky and heads to the other side of the tracks to make Chato listen to her. He answers the door looking like her daft grandfather and she huffily tells him Pina was the one who threw the pot, not her. Hard to tell whether that information gets through the haze of idiocy. For some reason Chacho wanders out wearing giant old-man pajama pants. Since when does Chacho have a big gut?
Freddy strolls into breakfast and kisses Ramona, Meli, and Pina good morning. Abeja reproachfully nuzzles his arm like she’s waiting for her kiss. Freddie asks Pina what’s wrong, and she says she won’t tell him because he’s in no state to hear more problems. Of course that just makes him worry more. Meli sassily reports that Pina must have been fighting with Vins. Speak of the cheating devil, and he rolls in like a thundercloud. When he’s pressed for news, he tells Freddie that he’s going to have a new little sibling. BOOM, says Freddie’s fingers.
Lupita’s looking low and still in black, but she’s putting on lip gloss and planning to go to school. She and Ana agree that Pancho is jealous over Chela’s interest in Enzo, but when they repeat this to Pancho he squawks and insists he’s just worried Enzo is a no-goodnik. Then he distracts them with loud laughing and hugs, his usual modus operandus.
The kids are excited about a new baby, but Pina coldly tells Vins to tell Freddie what they discussed the night before. Vins won’t in front of the niñas. Pina has no such reservations. “About your AMANTE,” she says. Vins tells “Miniyuyis” to go watch cartoons with Ramona. They take Abeja so she won’t hear unfit things either. After they’re gone, Freddie says, “so Mom knows about Candy.” Pina is incensed that he ALSO knew and said nothing to her.
Candy cries in bed and Pancho barges in to ask her how she’s feeling, his favorite question for people who are obviously feeling horrible.
Freddie follows Pina to her bedroom, where he tells her he just recently found out about Candy, and she tells him how awful Vins was to her. They cry and hug.
Pancho tries to get friendly with Rebe in her office, but she is cold to him and makes phone calls about the bank meeting to ignore him. So he calls her from two feet away and says they need to talk. She isn’t interested in talking about Chela; who cares if it’s jealousy or not?
The Pesketeers are convened in Vins’s office, and two of them are rather nonplussed by the bombs Vins has just dropped. Poor Pina, says Arnoldo. Celeste tries to interrupt with actual business. Vins doesn’t want to go to the bank meeting; “I Want Candy” is the only tune he knows. His backing band is not playing it; they physically hold him back and order him to the bank. Pina mopes in, eyes and nose a shade of red I don’t think Avon would advise, and Enzo and Arnie try to melt into the wallpaper. Suddenly Vins is in a hurry to get to the bank. Arnoldo has time to talk, though.
Pepe tells Moni he’s surprised about her dad dating his aunt. Moni says she thinks Enzo is really in love with Chela.
Glamazon Barbie accosts Enzo at his place of…okay, not work, but gossip and paychecks and business attire…because she wants to talk with him. Her attire indicates she had the impression that he works at an all-day cocktail party. She isn’t entirely wrong.
Chela tells Candy she’s dating Enzo, or plans to anyway, and it is NOT to make Pancho jealous, although he believes otherwise. She’s a little embarrassed and uncomfortable, though; it’s been so long since she’s dated and she feels rusty. There’s probably a lube for that. Candy tells her to take the bull by the horns, just go for it. Candy dials Enzo, conveniently providing him an excuse to avoid talking to Sparkle Barbie, and hands the phone over to Chela. Enzo invites Chela out for lunch. Chela freaks out but Candy’s thrilled to have a little project getting her fixed up.
Moni tells Pepe she just wants to meet her biofather. She doesn’t plan to blame him or be angry at him, she just wants to know who he is. They talk again about moving in together and Moni says she needs a bit more time. Pepe is very understanding but his face suggests this is requiring an effort at patience.
Freddie tells Ana he’s never been so in love with anyone else.
Enzo parks outside the mansion. He’s all dressed up today, in a white button-down shirt and tie and three-piece suit instead of a t-shirt and sport coat. Chela walks outside and he’s all “pardon me; I can’t resist” and he kisses her. She does indeed look rather rusty at this kissing business. They kiss all through an advert break and then Chela remembers to be indignant. He apologizes profusely.
Freddie calls Ana “My Precious.” I’ve never seen The Lord of the Rings but I understand that isn’t so much a good thing. She wonders if he’s maybe touched in the head owing to his recent troubles, but he says he really loves her, nothing to do with Alex’s death or Vins’s and Candy’s affair.
At the bank, Pancho is deliberately and childishly trying to rile up Vins. Vins isn’t taking the bait, for once. The banker is happy with Avon’s reputation, financial history, and current project plan, and he approves the bridge loan, pending an audit (Uh-oh!).
Pina cries to Arnoldo and he tries to prop up her self-esteem. He asks why she stays with Vins. Because she loves him, and they’ve been married 20 years, she says. “But he’s so horrible to you!” Arnie says. “He’s mean, he ignores you, he cheats on you, there’s no romance.” “Well, that’s love,” Pina sighs. “NO. That is NOT love!” Arnoldo insists. “That’s codependency, masochism, loneliness. Not love.”
The banker leaves the Avon crew alone again and Pancho is back to picking fights with Vins, despite Rebe trying to stop him. Pancho says Candy finally did the right thing, ditching Vins. Vins thinks he was behind it and says he saw her kissing a guy she says was her first love, some dude with a braid. “Why the braid?” Vins puzzles. Pancho is alarmed.
Arnoldo tells Pina she deserves a man who will listen to her, value her, and not lie to her. Pina thinks she’s worthless. He assures her she’s smart, elegant, and great at her job. Mentioning her job sets her off; Candy has trounced her a bit in that arena as well. Arnoldo says if that’s the kind of woman Vins wants, then there is no point in chasing him. She and Candy are nothing alike. Pina wants to die.
Speaking of men who aren’t worth the trouble, Chato storms Casa Irabién, looking for Pina to confirm the facts of the flowerpot fiasco. Ado tries to shove him out, saying she really wasn’t the one who beaned him, but she’d like to crack a pot over his head NOW. They make up and it’s gross.
Chacho, meanwhile, is having to play sidekick to Pancho all by his lonesome. He stirs his coffee with a lollipop. He senses that although Pancho is thrilled about his work triumph, he’s bothered by something else. Pancho makes him sit down to hear the big news that Chela checked “yes” on the “will you be my novia?” note Enzo passed in kindergarten.
Having escaped the Romper Room, Enzo and Chela are dining like adults at a grown-ups restaurant. Chela’s still a little confused and asks Enzo why he likes her. He says he was attracted to her passion and sincerity when she yelled at him at the police station, then again when he saw her at the gym, and she gave him such great advice about Monica.
Moni calls her mother to ask again who donated the other half of her DNA. GlamaMama is more interested in talking about Enzo’s love life. Moni is highly annoyed that her mother is yelling and demanding about this when she’s trying to discuss something more important, but figures she may as well tell her. “Her name is Graciela Torres. You don’t know her. BYE.” She hangs up and vents to Pepe.
Enzo asks Chela if she felt anything when he kissed her earlier. A lot of tickly mustache at the very least, I would think.
Pancho fans Chacho, who has gone all Three-Mile Island meltdown.
Chela says she’s going to be totally honest with Enzo. He says that’s why he likes her. This is something she’s never told anyone. He says she can trust him. Really?!, she asks. To warm her up, he confesses a little news of his own: Violeta told him it was a mistake to leave him, and claims she loves him. Chela doesn’t much like that.
Rebe tells Pancho the loan is confirmed. They must have done a lousy audit. Chacho leaves in a snit and Pancho tells Rebe that Chacho is madly in love with Chela.
Chela confesses to Enzo that she’s had the hots for Pancho since even before he started dating Laura, but when she realized her sister liked him too, she stepped aside. (Sure, toots, let yourself believe you were ever in the running.) She claims no one else knows this. Doesn’t everyone know this? Enzo says then maybe it will just be more of a challenge to win her over.
Freddy and Ana pull up in the driveway and Freddy excitedly starts texting Alex to tell him Ana forgave him…oh. Right. But at least Ana is there to comfort him now.
Pina notices Ado is totally desgreñada (disheveled). What’s up? Ado insists she was ironing, but Pina is no fool. She knows Ado was with Mr. Mostacho Ancho. Gross. Chato makes a quick escape. Keep running, dude. Don’t turn around.
Ana sees Vins running like wildfire across the lawn toward the Lopez house. She and Freddy start to head after him, but Fred decides he’d better go check in on Moms instead, so Ana chases Vins alone.
Vins knocks on Candy’s door and insists they have to talk.
Not wanting to be accused of withholding information again, Freddy immediately reports this latest development to Pina.

Thanks for this recap Julia. I couldn't catch this episode but am so happy Pina had dear Arnold telling her all those great things. And that her attachment to Vins was NOT love.

Also thanks to CHF and Ezra for your recaps.

Thank you so much Julia for this great recap, loved your title too. Arnold is so good giving Pina advice and he was so right. She didn't deserve the treatment she got from Vins. Pina really needs her self esteem back. I hope she finds it. I really worry about her baby. She has been through so much stress.

Loved the kiss between Enzzo and Chela, even though it was akward at first, it looked like it was getting better when she broke it off and yelled at him lol. She really looked like she liked it though. I hope Violetta doesn't cause too much trouble between them, since Moni told her who the woman is that Enzzo is interested in.

I am really liking how Freddy is being with Ana and his Mom. I love this side of him, so caring without ulterior motives. He is actually very sweet.

I thought is was funny watching Vins running down the lawn with the flames at his back lol. But I don't think he should have been trying to talk to Candy. He needs to settle things with Pina, before he starts chasing Candy again. And to try to knock down her door.

And why did Pancho talk to Chaco about Chela? I know Chaco is in love with Chela, but Chela is so not in love with him. Pancho ended up hurting Chaco.

I like how Chela and Enzzo's date went, and she told him about having been in love with Pancho. I hope this relationship goes a long way. They are so good together.

I was being flaky when I posted the first time and left out the end of the recap. It should all be there now.

I thought this was a good episode. Our baddies are getting more human and likable. Well, some of them. Pancho still needs to grow up, though.

I wonder why DramaMama and Enzo won't tell Moni who her biological father is. Just dragging it out, or is there a real reason they don't want her to know?

Julia, I always thought the Precious y'all mention was from an episode of the "Big Bang Theory" lol. I didn't know it was from the "Lord of the Rings". I have never seen that movie either.

I too wonder who Moni's Daddy is and why Violetta won't tell her.Maybe they will show more flashbacks and we'll get to see who it is.

Oh Julia, what a masterful recap. I started laughing from "Repeatsville" and didn't stop until "Keep running dude." Special mention needs to be made of "haze of idiocy" and "BOOM says Freddie's fingers"

Oh heck, special mention needs to be made of every other line. Simply great stuff!

I like your spin on the kiss. Being the catty mean girl I am, I was thinking that the two actors had terrible technique. The idea that Chela was rusty is obviously correct (duh! she's been pining for Panco all these years!) and in that case the kiss was played beautifully.

I really hope Chela gets over the Pancho crush and finds someone.

After hearing Vivi's take on the Pina/Vince story line, I think I concur with Arnie.

I'm with Julia and Madelaine in wondering who is Moni's dad.

Oh, and Abeja steals every scene she's in. I never pay attention to the humans when she's onscreen.

Are all of the comedic TNs this charming or is it just the Lopez family? I am really really really enjoying this show. (Wow, I'm sounding like a broken record.)

Julia- This was such a delightfully witty recap. Great way to start the day.

I laughed so hard when Ana and Freddie saw Vince running across the lawn with flames trailing him. So cartoonish. So funny.

I also like that Freddie is now 100% in sweet mode. He always had that side to him, but only really showed it to his parents and Abeja before, while to everyone else he put on his airs of cold self importance. He's actually a big softie and the "Nene" moniker fits perfectly.

Vince is being so cold to Pina. I hate that. I agree that he needs to get his house in order before he should go knocking down Candy's door. He and Pina have a LOT of issues to get through, even if all they are getting straight are the terms of their divorce. They have a child on the way after all.

Loved Chela and Enzo going on a date. Pancho needs to back off, but it is a bit of poetic justice for all the crap Chela pulled when Pancho started dating Rebe. But Pancho should have learned a lesson from that and know enough to stay out of Chela's business.

I am also getting annoyed with the way Pancho tries picking fights with Vince and Enzo in moments when everyone can see that they have other things on their minds. I'm still annoyed about his behavior to Enzo the other day after he and Moni had that big reveal, emotional conversation. Pancho does need to grow up. His kids (Lupe and Pepe specifcally) are reaching maturity faster than he is.

Sara, in my not-so-humble opinion, sometimes the comedic telenovelas are among the very best. Al Diablo Con Los Guapos and Un Gancho Al Corazón are some of my favorite telenovelas ever.

I think it helps if the powers that be use extreme discretion about stuff like special effects and "funny" sound effects and stupid costumes. Cram in too many of those, and the humor seems forced and not very funny to me. Especially the sound effects.

All Pina's crying was very sad, but to me the most sad moment of this episode was Freddy so happy and texting Alex, and then BOOM, as he would say.

Doesn't Tomás need to show up to be Pina's friend? It would be nice for her to spend more time around people who appreciate her.

For all Pancho's posturing about being the loving guy who CARES, he doesn't possess much emotional sensitivity at all.

You go girl Chela. Que beso! Its about time she has her own life. They make a cute couple.

Violeta sure is an amazon. How tall is she? Enzo looks like a midget next to her.

What ever happened to Bob's Big Boy?

And just who is Ramona?

Anon- Everyone looks like a midget next to Glamazon Barbie. Moni especially, who is one of the shorter cast members.

Nico, aka Big Boy, went to the countryside to see his mama to have her cure his tummy ailments. We don't know if he'll return. Ramona is Meli's friend, but really she's Daniela Castro's real life daughter-- both girls are. It's a great way to get to spend time with your kids while you work, no?

Julia- I've seen al diablo on DVD and loved that one. Why have I been such an idiot in ignoring these gems?

Don't forget to mention the funniest TN of all time----
La Fea Mas Bella!
That is the star of all comedic TN!

Sara I'm with you, this happens to be my favorite TN, I am just asking the writers not to mess it up.

And ARNOLD, please can you be my best friend! Love ya big guy.

On top of this the scene with Freddy reaching out to text his buddy, wow, a real life moment, and the writers and actores did it magnificiently.

Rebecca be careful you're being cold to Pancho is going to push him into Chela's arms, now that Pancho is jealous.

Tks much Julia.

Now that Freddy has stopped being such an ass, he is actually cute. Not as cute as Alex or Popeye or Pepe though.

Couldn't they have found s/b better for Adoración?

Maybe Pina will end up with Arnaldo.

Monica's pop is probably s/b we already know.

I searched to find out how tall Cecilia Galliano is but couldn't find anything. Sebastion is 6'1 or 2 & she is just a little shorter than he is, but she probably was wearing heels.

Thanks Vivi for responding to my questions regarding Ramona, Big Boy, etc. Sometimes its hard to keep up with the pace of this TN. I wish a teeny bit of the humor from Familia would spill over to Talisman.

So so funny, Julia. I no longer have to check the sidebar...I know your style immediately.

Some of my favorites:
[Pancho] has no business arranging Chela's play dates.
and
[Vince mewling about Candy] his backing band is not playing it.

And of course Glamazon. She was quite scary last night with her black magic marker eyeliner and furious "I'll cut you" look about Graciela. Seems like we're going to be in full drama mode for quite some time.

Totally agree with your assessment of Pancho. Not only immature, but seriously the most annoying voice and mannerisms on the planet. Sure hope the actor is not a bit like that in real life.

Julia, here I am watching the episode, enjoying your recap, and unwisely eating a salad which I almost blew out my nose when I read "There’s probably a lube for that." OMG that's so freakin' funny! OK, back to the recap and I'll check back in soon.

Wow, just a terrific recap of a very fun episode. Thanks Julia!

If I were Candy I would be very concerned at the way Vince is treating Pina. People like Vince typically do not change their MO too much. If he's treating Pina like this now odds are he'll treat Candy like that somewhere down the line. Ah well, this is a comedy and not real life.

Arnold was fantastic in this episode. He is an interesting combo of someone who can be extremely sensible about other peoples' love lives but rather foolish about his own choices.

Nellie, wouldn't Arnold be the best BFF? As long as he didn't fall in love with you that is. He needs to find a girlfriend, not a kid like Ana or someone who is already in love like Rebe.

Sylvia, that's the fundamental thing I don't get about Vins's and Candy's relationship (and a lot of real-life relationships). Firstly, HOW can she be so in love with a guy who treats people like that, especially someone so close to him who hasn't done anything against him. What's the attraction? And secondly, how does she think he won't eventually do the same to her? Why would she want to be attached to a guy she KNOWS lies and cheats? It's such a mystery to me.

Based on comments Chela has made previously, Candy seems to have history of chosing the wrong sort of man. And Vince is that! But he is fun and cute in his own way.

Anon, we humans do tend to resist breaking our patterns of behavior. Especially, it seems, if they are not particularly healthy for us. In at least one case she has maintained a friendship with one of them, that handsome, sensitive long-haired ponytail man.

Also, I think it would be hard to resist, at least for a while, the focused attention that Vince has been paying to Candy. You're right, he is cute and fun in his way, (when he's not being a cruel jerk). I don't blame him for wanting to leave his marriage if he truly doesn't love Pina, but there are kinder ways to get the message across.

Yo Amo a Juan Querendón and Hasta Que el Dinero Nos Separe were also very enjoyable "comedies."

I remember seeing the ads for Yo Amo a Juan Querendon and thinking it looked cute.

Another reason to like the comedies: they almost always get the 7-8EST/6-7CST slot....so when Looneyvision messes with the programming it doesn't cut into my bedtime. I don't know what to do now that LQNPA is going to air at 10EST/9CST. I'm usually in bed snoring by 9:30 CST! Thanks, Looneyvision -_-

Pepe, thank you for the Juan Querendon reminder. I LOVED that telenovela. I didn't watch Hasta Que and I kind of regret it. So many telenovelas, so little time.

I am a bit behind on episodes and waaaay behind on recaps and comments... but from the five seconds I saw tonight, it appears that we are still suffering from a comedy deficit.

We're just gonna have to make our own fun for a while, I guess.

Amen, Julie!! I had the same thought. What is it about Fridays? Two bummer Fridays in a row.

I know we've had some bummer episodes, but I am finding the drama in this comedy more compelling than the drama in the dramas right now. I am way more concerned about Pina, Lupe, and Freddy, than I am about Rogelio, AP, and Camila.

It's easier to feel for people who have made us laugh, and it's definitely easier to care about the characters we relate to most. Some of the characters in the dramas are very difficult to relate to.

And the contrast is much starker when a cheerful story takes a dark turn, or a kindhearted character meets a terrible fate. I mean, if anyone remembers what STuD was like - their idea of contrast was to go from "total bummer" to "absolutely wretched." I remember wishing that a big flood would come along and wipe everyone out. It would have been the happiest day of their lives.

Julie, except for maybe that day when Valentina got bitten by the rattlesnake (total bummer so far) and then Jose Miguel rushed in, ripped off his shirt to use as a tourniquet and then sucked the venom from her leg. Questionable medical practices aside, her total bummer turned into our total pleasure. At least that's how I remember it, heh. But in general, yep, absolutely wretched was typical. I'll never forgive the writers for having Ivana heave Benita over the balcony.

Yes, the snakebite was one of the happier episodes, as were the ones when JM took a shower. But we had to suffer an awful lot in between!

Poor JM definitely suffered a lot. Luckily for us he was an extremely clean and hygienic sufferer.

Oh, and I'm sure WE were all very clean sufferers as well.

What hilarious commentary to start my day!

Huzzah for hygienic suffering!

Hey all, the recap is half-written but I need to go to bed. I've lost 3 of the last 7 days to migraines, including today. Yeesh. And I have to admit that recaps are harder to write when the episode is like 85% downer. But this one will be done in time for the football, which, due to my geographic location, I am required by law to watch.

I'm sure WE were all very clean sufferers as well.
