Abismo de pasión #11 3/26/12: Gabino’s day starts out with a bang and bang
Gabino is trying to get Antonia drunk at the Cantina. Really? She’s really going to fall for that old trick? I mean the guy is practically force-feeding her. She also seems to believe his stupid line that he’s not a bad guy, it’s just complicated being the boss of others. Right...
Paloma gets home to the yerberia and yells at Ramona for lying that her dad is dead. That spotlessly reliable source Gabino told her otherwise!
Next morning the cock crows, literally and figuratively, as Gab wakes up with his latest victim, Antonia, beside him. Shoot, that was way too easy. We get a gratuitous body shot of him but he is so mean to her I want to pull out all his chest hairs one by one. She says they're gonna get married right? He pushes her back by her face and asks her why would he marry a cualquiera, an easy lay such as she? It was her first time, she says. Too late, the belt buckle has spoken.
Disgusto wakes up hung over when Lolita knocks on his door to tell him Carmina has disappeared. He doesn’t care.
Antonia is working in the kitchen all teary and depressed. She gets even more so when Fina shows up and fires her because everyone in town knows she went to the cantina and ended up with Gabino. Gee, I wonder if she’ll fire Gabino too? (rhetorical question) Antonia pleads she was deceived and promises to behave like a decent girl from now on. Fina agrees, as long as Antonio remains in her debt the rest of her life. (Eh? sounds like a crappy deal to me.)
Gabino cockily rides up to work. When he gets off his horse Carmina strides out of the shadows with her rifle cocked. (Sorry, I can’t seem to stop saying that word.) Sadly, he manages to knock the rifle out of her hand just as it fires, he says next time he’ll kill her. She has a meltdown.
Lolita tells Disgusto that Carmina took the rifle and went to the procesadora. A short time later he arrives there as Mara the nice secretary attempts to calm down Carmaniac. He gently retrieves the rifle and roughly grabs Car like a sack of habaneros and throws her on the horse. He’s such an a$$. He takes her home and they have a fight about it. He says nothing merits killing a man (point taken). They fight some more about him being the father of her child. Unbelievably, he says the important thing is that she recovers. He wants her to go back to the clinic.
She refuses so the doctor makes a house call. Doc Talk tells her she’s stronger than she thinks. She takes his hand and asks a big favor, could he please tell Augusto she couldn’t have been pregnant before she married him? She can’t stand another family scandal. Pwetty Pwease?
Lolita and Blanca talk sweetly about preparing Elisa for school. Then they smile and talk about Lolita’s “upcoming” wedding, you know, that one that will probably never happen, especially when Blanca comments how bummed Elisa will be when Lolita leaves.
The doc advises Disgusto to take care of Carmina. He doesn’t know why she tried to shoot that guy, but she’s not in her right mind. It’s hard to lose a child and Carmina needs help. Doc Talk says the child’s death was likely precipitated by the accident.
Braulio finds Antonio in tears and looking for Padre Lupe. Padre’s not around so Braulio wants to help. She flings herself on him in time for Lolita to get an eyeful. Antonia give Brau a kiss and oopsie, mild-mannered Lolita goes Loloca, slaps Antonia and breaks up with Braulio. Wow, that was a short engagement.
Augusto blasts through the doors of Casa Haranguo with an earful for Fina. If she wants nothing to do with his family then why did she go to the clinic looking to torment Carmina? He tells her Elisa and Carmina had nothing to do with Rosendo and Stef. (Well, he’s half right.) The Widow is Whack (see Friday's recap for meaning). He tells her she is a liar and a hypocrite.
Augusto blows my mind: He tells Fina that they (she and he) are the ones to blame for Rosendo and Stef running away. Furthermore, Fina had better tell Gabino to stay away from his family, because the next time it will be Augusto who tries to kill him and he won’t fail.
Lolita finds Elisa waiting on the school steps. Elisa want to know why Lolita is crying. Lolita says even though she’s not Elisa’s real mother she feels like Elisa is her own daughter. They hug and say how much they love each other, awwww.
Gabino is on a roll today. Now he’s getting into it with Mara who has questioned why Carmina showed up. He tells her to remember that he gives the orders around here. Mara says what she remembers is he’s not her boss, rather he is an opportunist who sucks up to Fina. Gab says he can get her fired like that and if he wants to he can get Fina to marry him because all women become very stupid around him. He obviously didn’t get the memo about the third party listener because Fina pops up and tells him HE is the estupido. What would she ever see in a man like him? Long story short, she fires his butt and makes Mara’s day.
He follows her begging for his job on his knees. She sneers that his lack of dignity is incredible. She relents and says she’ll allow him to stay on one condition. She’ll talk to him about it at the hacienda. She leaves and the entire factory bursts out in laughter at the Belt Buckle Buffoon. Braulio calms everyone down.
Fina blows my mind: At the Hacienda de Haranguo Gab whines that Mara provoked him. Fina says she knows exactly who he is. On the subject of Antonia he is to say that nothing happened between them because she’ll not allow the whole pueblo to gossip about her.
Fina tells Gabino she won’t force him to marry Antonia because Antonia doesn’t deserve a boor (i.e. buffoon) like him for a husband. But if he wants to continue working for the hacienda he has to respect Tonia. One word about Antonia and he’s fired.
One more point of business, did Gab tell Augusto that someone close to him was the real father of Carmina’s brat? Augusto thinks it is Rosendo and blames Fina. Gab says he meant the father is one of Rosendo’s employees, that’s it. Gab admits he’s a dumba$$ for even mentioning such a thing to Augusto. She agrees and wishes that the entire family would all just leave La Ermita. He says her wish is his command. With that she forces a wee smile through the botox mask.
It is night and a mystery person, hunky build, belt buckle gleaming in the moonlight, splashes fuel around a storage building. He lights a match, gasp! It’s Gabino! He licks his lips as the flames shoot high around the building and roast the habanero plants.
Ramona, who has a knack for being in the wrong place at the right time, and Paloma are out for a nighttime burro ride and see the Castañon facility explode into a ball of fire.
Augusto and his staff inspect the carnage and wonder how they will save their livelihoods. Lucio joins him, the whole pueblo heard from Ramona about the fire. Augusto says they lost everything. I think he says something about the fire being a sign it’s time to cut off all memories of Stef. Good luck with that dude, since you are the father of her DAUGHTER and are married to her SISTER.
Braulio is at Casa Castañon trying to explain things to Lolita. He accuses her of looking for reasons to not marry him. She says this wasn’t the first time Antonia distracted him, and that’s why she doesn’t want to marry him. She lies that this is the truth.
Augusto takes all the pictures that have Stef in them, even the ones from Elisa’s room, and burns them while Elisa watches. Such a cruel, cruel man. She holds her amulet, kisses it and recalls times with Damian. She removes it but then quickly puts it back on. “You’ll always be my best friend”, she says. More past kiddie scenes swimming in the cenote. Children Elisa, Gael and Paloma jump in, grownup Paloma, Gael and Elisa emerge. Elisa still wears her amulet and we get an eyeful of her shapely gams.

The episode was quite a roller coaster ride. Gabino really showed his nasty (and hot--did you see how low those briefs and jeans rode on him as he got dressed?) side tonight. He was downright scary as he lit that fire.
I think Ughy said that the land where he was cultivating the peppers belonged to Stefi's dad, so it's burning was symbolic of him needed to get rid of eveything to do with her. You're right that her daughter and sister will always be there in his life. But I think he has every intention of ignoring said daughter and sister, forever more. Jerk! Thanks for noticing how gently he handled the gun, but how roughly he handled Orangina (not that she doesn't deserve it).
And poor Lola sacrifices herself for the wellbeing of Elisa. She's more of a parent than Uhgusto is. But I felt so sad for her.
Alfie also showed even more of her nasty and crazy side. I didn't think it possible, but she achieved it.
The kids are now young, shapely/buff, adults. Let the games begin!
I'm going to miss little Gael; that kid is adorable. Mark Tacher has a great body but his face does nothing for me. Men's lips shouldn't be too full because it looks indecisive.
Gabino is a total creep. Every time I see him I feel violated.
As for Mark Tacher, I've not seen him in anything yet so I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride while I make up my mind, heh.
Vivi, thanks for that bit about the land belonging to Stef and Carmina's dad. I kind of thought that might be what Ugh said, but I wasn't quite sure. Interesting observation about the three children. I wasn't intending to recap this episode but it had so much good stuff in it I couldn't resist.
La Paloma
Gabino has probably knocked up Antonia (who wouldn't know about protection & certainly wouldn't have been carrying a condom around), who goes running to Braulio, who'll marry her (since he's broken up with Lolita) and agree to raise her kid so she won't be the town pariah.
Disgusto is cruel, I hope Elisa had a picture of Estefania hidden away.
Lucio & Disgusto should rebuild themselves a business from the ashes.
Boo! the children are gone. I wonder how Elisa has coped with growing up in Hell House.
LOVED..He says nothing merits killing a man (point taken).
She can’t stand another family scandal. Pwetty Pwease?
LOL same i felt when on DWTS Len said about William Levy 'you were lacking on the body!' and the whole crowd went PHTTTTT!!!
Blanca offered Lolita to make her wedding dress (awwwww but did she have to jinx it for Lolita?)
Doc talk to Augusto right after Orangina begs Doc not to tell Augie that she was pregnant before they got married... and Doc is reluctant, but goes with the generic 'the events precipitated the labor'... (nice saying much o nothing doc!)
Antonia give Brau a kiss and oopsie, mild-mannered Lolita goes Loloca, slaps Antonia and breaks up with Braulio.
LOL that scene definitely pulled th wrong string on otherwise sweet Lolita!. but Braulio is so right, she is just looking for an excuse to call off the wedding because of Elisa.
Augusto blasts through the doors of Casa Haranguo with an earful for Fina. .. lol nicely put!
Augusto blows my mind: He tells Fina that they (she and he) are the ones to blame for Rosendo and Stef running away....
well, not quite Sylvia, he said that maybe it was not Estefania but Rosendo to blame, not them.
She leaves and the entire factory bursts out in laughter at the Belt Buckle Buffoon.
I have to admit that was a GRRRRRRRRRREEAATT moment for me!
Ramona, who has a knack for being in the wrong place at the right time, and Paloma are out for a nighttime burro ride and see the Castañon facility explode into a ball of fire.
(and then they run through the whole town yelling that Augie's invernadero is burning down! Is this the Ermita version of 'The British are coming!?
I think Ughy said that the land where he was cultivating the peppers belonged to Stefi's dad, so it's burning was symbolic of him needed to get rid of eveything to do with her.
yes he did say that the invernadero and the land were both from Este's dad... and that the fire was a sign that he had to cut with everything 'Este'.
i will miss young Gael and Elisa... and even Paloma..
I can't wait to see Livia Brito on screen... she certainly is pretty.
we just needed Padre Lupe to swim with them... would a priest swim in thermals?
Anyone else get overload when they have to watch Carmina pouting and racing her explanations more than needed. Gees--I had to tune her out a couple times last night. But looks like she has the Doc under her spell. I see smmochies down the road???
Disgusto--dumba**. I can't even go there about the picture burning, or for that matter anything he does.
Gabino--sorry waking up looking all buff and then he still had his socks on, kind of cracked me up. But the man does have a rockin' bod...is there a workout gym in this TN we haven't seen?
The poor heart of gold women-both working for nut jobs, and both are going to pine after someone they won't be with. My bets are with Anon207 on the A/B paring, but I'll betcha still still pines away for AbsGab.
I just knew when the kiddies ran to the pond we were going to get the transformation. I teared up a bit, these kids were all awesome.
Let the gratuitous shirtless scenes begine with the heros. Oh and for the guys, I see the "girls" will be making appearrances as well. Not much for wardrobe to do on this TN.
So Disgusto decides that the burning of the greenhouse, which is obviously ARSON, is a sign from God that he cut himself free from all ties to Stef. Gah, what an idiot!
That was such a delightful scene of the kids at the cenote stripping to their undies and jumping in the pool together. I hope I like the adults - I'm still having a hard time reconciling Angelique as the grown up Elisa. I'm curious to see if she can play the super good innocent girl that Elisa is. The others are fine even though I'm not a Zepeda fan (at all).
Audrey
recap. Many of your marvelous lines have already been noted but my favorites included: "Spotlessly reliable source Gabino", "belt buckle buffoon and "Good luck with that dude, since you are the father of her DAUGHTER and are married to her SISTER." Most excellent!
ITA with you Vivi "And poor Lola sacrifices herself for the wellbeing of Elisa". How sad...Lolita obviously loves Braulio but she loves Elisa more. ITA with Anon and daisy that Braulio ends up marrying Antonia.
I'm not buying Gabino as a chick magnet. Dude, you have so much self love, it only gives us more to loathe. Blech.
I missed the last part of this (sorry, watching William Levy) and thankfully, missed Ughy's burning Stefi's pictures. He is beyond despicable.
Carmina achieves new lows of BSC daily. Kudos to Sabine - her acting is stellar. I hope she is able to relax and distance herself mentally when she goes home at night.
I hate the children are gone!
Sylvia, thank you for another wonderful recap.
Diana
And he can give Gabino a run for his money in the ABS department.
I actually like Zepeda as a bad-guy, didn't watch his last TN, so curious to see how he plays the good-guy Damian character.
I'm already starting to suspect I may be more invested in Gael and Paloma then the two leads because of the actors involved as this goes forward.
Daisy, I don't think you have to hope aganst hope for the Doctor-smooching -- you can catch it right in the credits. I wonder where old bony-knees Begona is while that's going on?
So, you all think Gabino's shirtlessness was gratuitous? Hmmmm? Just asking.
But in the meantime: four little words. FIRE (NOT IN FIREPLACE.)
Mark Tacher will win you over, trust me. I became a believer in La Hija del Mariachi.
Gabino: I am so over you. He is a pitiful villain and so predictable. His begging Alfonsina was pathetic.
It looks like we are going to have to put up with Orangeada for the full season. I was hoping that Angustion would put her on a train to nowhere, but, he's too lame and weak to do that.
I could not agree more with...
(Mark T) has that "puppy-dog" aura about him for me, if that makes sense. (we have given it other names like the 'IT' factor, etc in LHDM forums)
And he can give Gabino a run for his money in the ABS department.
I'm already starting to suspect I may be more invested in Gael and Paloma then the two leads because of the actors involved as this goes forward.
Cap'n Sylvia - Thank you for the thorough and entertaining recap.
UA - ITA with you completely re: Gabino. This actor does RBG (Resident Bad Guy) very well.
The Orange One - Sabine is doing BSC very well.
Aaaaawwwwwww... the kids morphed into adults. No 'despues'ing (for a change), just morphed. I rather liked how the transition was handled; different from other telenovelas. (I cannot write "TN" because I live in Tennessee, so every time I see "TN" at Caray Caray, I think y'all are talking about Tennessee instead of a 'novela. ;o) )
Augusto is a complete Neanderthal.
His IQ must be ten points above that of plant life. He does not deserve sweet little Elisa, nor did he deserve Estefanía. Methinks Carmina is perfect for him.
Looks like, in the opening credits, that The Orange One will be macking on Dr. Idiot at some point., Eeeew.....
May I add that the scene that made me wince the most was when Disgusto forced Carmelonless to get up on his (high) horse instead of driving her back to the ranch in his camioneta, as Maru was pleading with him to do. As much as I despise the Orange one, Disgusto's sadism at that point took my breath away.
There's Car with a fresh incision from stem to stern (which, according to Doc Blabbermouth, was opened and infected by the time he checked her) and he makes her saddle up?
I was also very sad to see the kids morph into surgically enhanced torsos and calendar models. Meanwhile all the horrible adults seem to have leaped the time gap unscathed.
Anon207, I think you called it on the Antonia/Braulio thing. Sigh.
Things jumped at me while watching this episode: Augusto using a HORSE (!) to take Carmina back and Josefina getting involved in Antonia and Gabino's business. Those were weird moments for me, now I don't doubt it is a choice of this version to portray these adults as unsympathetic as they can. The Gabino/Antonia thing was new as well.
UA: Count me in as another one who can't look at Gabino. I can't find him attractive at all. Besides the character's nasty side I think it's the long hair, men with that much muscle shouldn't have long hair.
I'll be honest, as much as I liked the Paloma character in the first version, I never care for her pairing with the Gael character. I liked her more with another character and I liked him better with the Elisa character (although I liked the Elisa character with the Damián character better but I was okay with all possible outcomes from that triangle).
Even as a fan of the original, I wouldn't mind if the adaptation switched couples around depending on chemistry between the actors. I think that the basis is there to go crazy and change combinations. In fact, I actually hope they do this so this version can have its own seal (besides the nastier villains).
Jarocha
Thanks for the recap. Ab fab and you turned it out in a flash.
NM, Jarocha and Doris:
All I can say about Tangie on the horsie is...ouchie. Sadistic is the only appropriate word for Disgusto's behavior. I thought Sabine winced a few times to show us her pain, but I wanted a full blown holler from her. Lord, that girl can rock the rabid kind of crazy. She scares me...
EJ
I don't think you become "that" cruel overnight. I'm wondering if Disgusto was always an asshole and Estefania was the beauty that tamed the beast.
Gosh, after all the talk about Mark Tacher I can't wait to see him in action. A new telenovio, wheeee!!!
Blue Lass, Gab's shirtlessness was definitely gratuitous. His wearing socks proves it. I didn't even notice the socks, rowrrrr. He is one Hot Nasty. I will love seeing him get what he deserves, but in the meantime more gratuitous nekidness puhleaze.
Marta: I liked both guys and thought all the actors had mad chemistry with each other, even Gael/Juan de Dios and Julia/Elisa had MUCH more chemistry than many leads in other novelas. The only thing that made me prefer Pablo/Damián was how adorable he could be. I wonder if Zepeda can be adorable because I think Tacher can probably beat him on that. If this happens, I don't know where my loyalties will lie in this story lol.
Jarocha
I wonder if Zepeda can be adorable because I think Tacher can probably beat him on that. If this happens, I don't know where my loyalties will lie in this story lol.
exactly... Mark will give David a run for his money in audience preference...
- sorry, I can't seem to stop saying that word
- she forces a wee smile through the Botox mask
- good luck with that dude, since you are the father of her DAUGHTER and married to her SISTER
- Belt Buckle Buffoon
among others.
La Paloma - So YOU are Wm. Levy's inspiration on DWTS? I wondered who the lucky girl was.
Doris - What's up with that. Lol. Eeeew eeee what's up with that. Now it's.stuck in my mind.
Vivi - Let the games begin! And may I add: May the odds be ever in your favor!
R la O
So I think Zepeda can play tender. I don't think he can play adorable, simply because he doesn't have the looks for adorable. I think his good guy turn in Fuerza was compromised by his lackluster leading lady.
I think I still may put in the order already for my I heart Gael tee shirt and hold off on Damian for a bit.
My curiosity is piqued on how Boyer plays Elisa. guess we'll start seeing tonight.
I haven't seen this episode yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Now that I've read the recap I know when to cover my delicate eyes to spare them from various abuses.
Couldn't watch last night because I had to see part of DWTS. I feel sorry for WL. Those judges and that Brooke woman have no shame and no manners. They treat him like something they bought in the XXX shop. They should tone it down because it's coming off as gross and rude the way everyone keeps saying he should take his clothes off. Yes, I know we often request shower scenes here, but we're saying it on a website the actors don't read, not to their faces on live television.
Anyway. Back to our show. Bring on the swimming scenes! I'm really curious to see how things have shifted during the time jump.
Blue Lass, I like that you think Gabino could be redeemed. His character is interesting enough that it makes me wonder about his background. I doubt we will get any knowledge of that though. He seems to have nobody close except his horse.
Jarocha, great comment about how they are portraying Augustin as a jackal instead of a sad and embittered man. I'm looking at Anon207's comment that one doesn't become such a big A-hole overnight and that Estefania might have tempered his beasty side. I think her death definitely affected his demeanor and maybe the beast that lurked underneath came out in a rage. Also, he is drinking a lot and that definitely does not help. Finally, Carmina is around and even though he thinks she's full of it she still manages to get her digs in and fill his stupid head with doubts and suspicions.
All in all I am really liking this cast. I think Angelique Boyer will do a great job as Elisa. I like Zepeda although it's hard for me to imagine him as the grown up version of angel-faced child Damian. I'm looking forward to getting to know the Tacher and Brito.
They treat him like something they bought in the XXX shop....
i did watch the DWTS while my media room tv was taping Abismo and ITA with you that they are making WL's participation into a freak show of sorts, as if he were the only well built man on the show ever, maybe the only one that carries a body like that and still can show decent dance moves...
funny how his wife is always there in audience with black wig on...
Well, if Damian loses out to Gael in the romance department, there are always plenty of walls in La Ermita.
R la O - What's up with that? Ooooeeeeeee! LOL Whenever one of us says that, the other starts singing ….. Gotta love SNL.
(for those of you who are thinking "qué cosa???" here is a clip, you'll need to open in it's own tab and wait 30 seconds:
http://www.hulu.com/watch/102975/saturday-night-live-what-up-with-that-james-franco
I only saw William Levy's first dance that was supposed to be Cha Cha but sounded more like rap to me.
Jarocha
Doris, thank you for the link. I had totally forgotten that Gerard Butler played the Sexecutioner, LOL!! I am a huge fan of SNL. You and R la O are a scream. OOOOeeeeee!
This was our triangle back then: Pablo/Damián, Julia/Elisa and Juan de Dios/Gael.
Jarocha
daisynjay, I heard the song Cuando Me Enamoro on the radio today and it made me feel very nostalgic.
You're kind to accuse me of being Sweet William's dance inspiration. If I ever met him face to face, I'm sure he would be polite, but stumpy gray-haired arthritic women in their 60s (that's me raising my hand) are not usually so inspirational.
Obviously some Levy followers in the studio audience, but most of the DWTS crew doesn't seem to understand why he has so many fans. Caraymates, we have some educational work to do.
So sweet to see his son in the audience last night!
