El Talismán #27 Thu 3/8/12 Does Pancho Eat Everything With His Hands?

Dear Talismaniacs:

Our dear Sylvia is traveling and is unable to recap this evening. She asked that we put up a header and chat amongst ourselves.

A couple of starter topics:

1. Why did Camila's hair (at the party) stick up like a cockscomb in the back?
2. Why didn't Antonio change his shirt from yesterday?
3. Why is Elvira such a beast?
4. Why didn't we get an invite to the tacky party at the cheese ball apartment?
5. Why did El Tal get moved to 1PM?
6. When shall we start with Julia's challenge of Haiku recaps?

The answer to these and other important questions will be considered in your following posts.

I will take up the Haiku challenge in the morning after meetings and coffee.

Post away!

That coxcomb thing has bugged me for years. What makes anybody think this is elegant or even acceptable?

As to this program getting moved to 1PM, I'd be glad to see it go to make room for something the actors don't have to be ashamed to be in.

Can't say; didn't see
In a big hotel again
No Spanish TV

Does anyone know the ratings numbers?

My poor haiku which is inspired by the show as a whole:

Avocado plagues
My mind with what could have been.
What were they thinking?

"SNORT"
I'd like to be there
When Syl vi a gets the news
Por fin its o ver.

Mike - I loved the Panchito's Anthem! So funny. Would you believe that was my FAVORITE album for years. My husband still plays the cd in his car. Always and Forever is one of the best songs ever. I love me some Luther, but even his version of that song did not compare. I remember calling the radio station back in my college days and asked them to quit cutting off the Oooh-oooh-oooh at the end, telling them they were missing the best part.

Also, Mike, coincidentally, my son was at that gum wall last week while in Seattle for an interview. I will show him your funny comment on Sunday.

Off to watch. Can't wait to see Miss Mexico World's hair.

Going to TJ?
Not so fast little bunnies
Mamá has other plans

Was that a strange engagement party... or what?

In medical school we were cautioned against always searching for zebras and yet in this they are everywhere I look.

Carlos

Avocados weep
Pancho has fingered the food
The pseuds will eat snails

Hey Carlos, As I said yesterday, around here when you hear hoofbeats, think zebras.

(Also, think zebra even when you don't hear hoofbeats.

I spotted a new zebra tschotchke yesterday -- an urn-like thing on the coffeetable at AlcaTrash. Maybe it contains Mrs. Pig's ashes.)

Ooooh, everyone is choosing up new teams. Will LuCrazy join team Pig?

Did you notice that Alberta referred to her patrona as "LuCrazy"?

Faded woman grasps
Nails scrape gold, man, land, air
Sad lady, all hands are oiled.

Oh my, this is fun. Writing about El Tal Mal and impermanence? How great is that?

All the Haiku are great. Really love Carlos' offering:

'Going to TJ?
Not so fast little bunnies
Mamá has other plans'

and NM's:

'Avocados weep
Pancho has fingered the food
The pseuds will eat snails'

NM, this is GOOD. Seriously.

La Infanta Azul:

A pragmatic question...I loved the new dress—your court painter is awfully good—But you look to be a lithe little thing, how did you get through the Big Hotel's revolving door?

What is up with large hotels and no Spanish language TV? Arghh?

Thanks, Julia, for the Haiku inspiration.

What a dull party! Did anyone EAT the food with the Special Panchito Seasoning? Ick, Yuck, Barf!!!!!!

Trying to Haiku
Not so easy as it seems
Old Chevrolet Boom.

Oh, that was AWFUL! Maybe I'll try again with my word verifications!

EJ, the hotel has to arrange itself around ME.

So, what were the high points last night? Somebody, please...take pity on us hotel-dwellers...

“High” points from memory

EL Pig summons LuCrazy to AlcaTrash and urges her to turn her back on the Belt Buckle. If Lu helps him, he’ll lend her a trotter with Operation Seduce Pedro.

Operation Poison the Pig has been aborted but now El Pig is afraid to ingest anything in his house. With good reason.

Divorce, Fresno Style: Anto is still looking for a hit man to dispose of Doris.

Doris is softening up the F-girls and Anto is scaring them with his crazy.

Doris spends another evening Chez Brigitte where she still has lots of fans.

The Pi Man and Cami are inexorably drawn back to Fresno. Much to LuCrazyCryBaby’s chagrin, Pi avoids El Tal. Instead, he and Cami go on a shopping spree so they can spiff up for their Night Chez Renato.

There is a side-by-side dressing room scene and each emerges modeling various looks. The winners: a short blue cocktail dress for Cami and an understated suit for the Pi Man.

Cami gets to wear heels so she is taller than everyone, including the Pi man. Here’s where Geno would come in handy.

El Viral points out to Armando that he is still screwed. As soon as Fabiola realizes he was toying with Flor, she won’t have any part of him.

The party at Rita’s apartment:
Tracy is hiding in the kitchen although she’s dying to say hi to Cami. (She’d love to tell Cami that Renato is a fraud but she’s afraid.)
Pancho is the waiter, supposedly, but all we see him doing is drinking the champagne and touching all the food as well as eating much of it. He continues to pooh pooh Tracy’s warning that Renato is a Bad Bad Man.

El Viral is aghast to see Camila accompanied by that lowlife, Pedro. Even Renato notices that there is no love lost between her and the Pi Man. Armando tries to smooth things over.

Pi Man recognizes that Renato was the slug in black tie who leered at Camila et al the night of the Gala when they crossed paths in the hotel. Don’t worry, he tells Rennie, he won’t tell El Viral her novio goes out piropeando when she’s not looking.

Rita overhears Camila saying there’s something suspicious about Renato. Camila ends up apologizing and admitting that the two “families” will just need some time to get acquainted.

El Viral wants a big, EXPENSIVE church wedding. Renato says fine but let’s have quickie civil ceremony first. She is flustered but agrees.

Renato asks Armando for his mother’s hand on which he places the hot potato ring, which, until recently, lived on Rita’s finger.

There are a bunch of people at the engagement party. Who are they? Must be part of the low-life circuit, the seamy seething underworld of Fresno where one can rent-a-butler, pilfer-a –mansion for a night or rent RentaRita for months at a time. I look for Oscar in the crowd but fail to spot him. Perhaps because he is too short.

That’s what I remember ...

Didn't watch last night
Someone tell me what happened
Luni schedule sucks

I don't think poetry is really my thing. So Pedro and Camila hauled themselves back to Fresno for the lamest party ever? Is that what I have to look forward to when I have a chance to watch it?

I am going to keep watching this show just to see Evilra get what she deserves. I hope she ends up scrubbing toilets in exchange for gruel. What a useless snot.

Thank you, NovelaMaven!

Now how is Pigorio planning to help Lucrazy seduce Pedro? This has real comic potential. I hope it's more creative than just blackmail or roofies.

Oh just one more thing
[NovelaMaven, in dingy raincoat, hand on doorknob, turns back to face Talismaniacs]

The fake journalist shows Belt Buckle the fake article incriminating Pi Man in Mariana’s disappearance. It will take a day or two to yellow the article so it will look convincingly old. (Because no one has access to the internet or the newspaper morgue. And Camila will swallow whole anything negative about the man she looooooves.)

How will the Pig help Lu? You'll have to watch tonight to find out!

Thanks for this EJ and your summary NM. I'm kind of torn about this new TN. While anything will be better than El Tal, this poor putrid TN has created some of the greats 'caps in my recent memory; I get guaranteed laughs from all the recappers and our community.

One step closer
To oblivion

Mil gracias, NM!

Roofies...hmm...could we finally get "galán falsely believes he has been intimate with villainess"...?

Your haikus all shine
Like glitter on Doris' mask
or Panchito's drool

Camila and Pedro were having so much fun trying on clothes. He looked handsome in everything. I liked the blue off the shoulder dress the best for Camila. I hate to go clothes shopping. Everytime I go, it's a bigger size.

Camila's hair looked so pretty at the salon, long and wavy and flowing. What happened on the way to the party? No, that rooster look does not suit her.

I actually loved Elvira's dress, the black with the hot pink. I would ditch the cape, even if it is faux fur, and the spider web hat or whatever that was on her head.

Panchito was so funny tasting everything. Were it not for the violence this really could pass as a spoof of a spoof of telenovelas.

Poor Aaron Diaz acts his heart out. I wonder how he and Blanca are handling the news of the schedule change. Embarrassed? Defensive? Spilling boda bag contents?

Not a fan of the LOUD vibrating phones. I give a startled jump everytime one goes off. Why so loud?

R la O

One thousand points (of glittery light) for that haiku, RlaO.

For the week ending Feb. 26, El Tal was the third-rated Spanish-language program at 14.0, behind LQNPA (17.0) and UFCS (16.2). That isn't too bad, really, but not great for a 9 pm show.

I think for the ratings of Spanish-language shows, they only count percentages of Hispanic households tuned to them. I wonder how many of us who are not Hispanic watch them, and whether counting those would make any difference in the ratings.

Camila & Pedro
Try-in' on clothes

Saw it before
Didn't want to see it again

It's not Haiku, but it's how I felt.

Novela Maven--I wish you could title the recap, The Case of The Disappearing Suitcase....

Doris Rolled in with it; It sat in the Living Room; Antonio Scowls; Argues with Doris; Suitcase Disappears; Doris Disappears; Antonio Disappears; Alberta Disappears (from the Living Room, that is).

I wish Tweedledee and Tweedledummy would Disappear.

Loved, Loved, Loved Piedrito growing a pair tonight. He was cute and sassy. Where has he been for the last 26 capitulos.

See you all tomorrow!!
Anita
