Abismo de Pasión #36 4/30/11: Dam Remains Dressed...Oh, and Elisa cries
Insomnia and week-end migraines have conspired against me; hence tonight's recap will be crap (just more fodder for the fan, yes?) Please pardon the scant info and odd organization. Needless to say, fill-ins will be in order.
Flo reminds Unkahunk he boinked a minor.
Fina confronts Unkahunk and wants to know who really called.
Dam gets smarmy, tells Elisa he loves her and smoochies ensue.
From "Televisa Presenta to first commercial break
Elisa lerves Damián but their lerve is impossible. If he leaves Flo for her, it will be Steffie all over again and the Harper Valley PTA will have a field day with that. He doesn't love Flo and can't stop thinking about Elisa or get her out of his heart. He won't lose her a second time and the Andrea Bocelli-esque theme plays on. Later, the Sleazel pops in, but she has no real lines other than to be nosy about Dam's visit.
Ingrid gets snoopy at the PRO CE SA DO RA and Grabby Gabino catches her. Did Maru sneak a peek? You decide. Gab slimes into his squeaky chair and calls the Castañon residence. Lola answers and he hangs up. Lola and Carmina circle each other and discuss callers who call and hang up. (Lola's veiled attempt to let Duck L'Orange know she hasn't forgotten that hang up a few episodes back when Lucio was in the hospital?)
Elisa is still bustin' out all over (*ahem*) with the news that Dam lerves her. She tells Lola and then cries about suffering and she wishes Dam hadn't professed his love.
Dam is heading into the church and Kenia (spelled Quenia on my CCs) is looking for Gael.
Dam wants Padre Loopy's blessing on to break up with Flo and lerve Elisa forever. Padre is Mr Negativo and brings up all the issues they will have. Not to mention how it will hurt Gael, who has always seen Dam as a rival. And while Dam may be Mr. Man, what about Elisa? Is she tough enough to withstand the spitstorm on the horizon?
Theme song to 2nd commercial break cliff-hanger
Gael and Assusto discuss the harvesting of habaneros. Assusto, usually so obtuse, notices Gael's mood. Gael spills the habanero sauce about the Team Habanero and the Greenhouse plan.
Paolo calls Carmina and they plan to meet at the only inn in La Ermita at 3.
Meanwhile downstairs, Dam is breaking up with Flo...who flips out and pulls a master Clingwrap ™ maneuver. She begs and pleads and while I don't like this chick all that much I cringe for her utter lack of dignity.
Paloma and Elisa discuss the latest Dam drama and Elisa insists she needs to make Dam forget her. Paloma the voice of reason, tells girlfriend she needs to go after Dam toute de suite.
Apparently Flo ran right out of the Hacienda and over to the plaza so Kenia could conveniently run into her and tell her she needs to see Paolo...like yesterday. Kenia spills the dead rabbit beans and Flo wishes she could trap Dam so conveniently (aw hell.)
Duck L'Orange awaits Paolo at the Inn. Pop! Goes the Bitter Sleazel...Fina shows up instead of Paolo!
Mid-episode cliffhanger to final credits
Fina knows Duck L'Orange served Elisa up on a silver platter at the cenote. Fina digs in her claws. She tells her she hates Elisa because she reminds her so much of her sister and the miserable life she has. Elisa is the product of love between Assusto and Steffie. She's the daughter Carmeany will never have. Carmina says she does't have to explain anything to Fina. If she sent Paolo to the cenote, it was to keep Elisa and Dam apart. Fina says Dam has no interest in Elisa. Carmina fires back with an "Oh yeah? Well then why did he come to the house to see her. So nyah!"
Paolo and Dam blah blah and Paolo finds out that come hell or high water, Dam is cancelling the wedding.
Gab forces his way into Casa Castañon and tells L'Orange he wants the little house of blue. She balks. He reminds her about the plane tickets and postal robbery so she could fake the paternity test. He suggests they trade. Or maybe arrange a kind of time share with the house. She'll take the morning humping shift and he'll take the afternoon shtupping shift.
Flo brings Kenia to Harangue-o ™ Hollow and introduces her to Fina as a friend. Fina insists the lovely young lady stay and keep Flo company. Oh, and why not go say hello to Paolo? His room is the third one on that hallway.
Enrique and Dam. Blergh. Enrique Dam has been so kind to him and that he (Quique) has not been such a nice guy. Quique worries and wants Dam to forgive him for anything he may have done to upset Dam. Dam is a little confused, but I'm sure at some point he will flash back to the conversation and all will be made clear.
Flo tells Fina about the break up. Flo knows it's for Elisa. Fina promises things will return to normal.
Kenia confronts Paolo and I really don't need to recap this. Just think of everything slimy men say when they don't want to take responsibility for getting a woman pregnant.
Team Habanero talks about going to Mérida to get a bank loan. Elisa is a little distracted. Gael walks her home and says she is drifting away from him. She denies it. Gael tells her the told Assusto about the project. Elisa gets mad because it was her place to tell her father. Not Gael's. She leaves in a huff.
Flo drags Elisa's reputation in the mud to Kenia, saying that Elisa has flirted with Dam, Paolo and even Gael! (So that's 2 out of 3 guys that Kenia would not want with Elisa.)
Dam visits Elisa and tells her he tried to break up with Flo. Elisa doesn't think he should do that. Dam thinks they should fight for their happiness. Elisa insists he forget her. Dam thinks they can face anything together and should fight for their happiness. They can't stop how they feel. There are aborted smoochies and Dam leaves in a mini-huff.
Assusto scares Elisa (because he is skulk pouting in a corner) and confronts her about her business dreams. He isn't supportive. Finally he says at least it will keep her busy and she won't be running around with men.
Enrique talks to Sabrina and I wonder why I care. (BTW, according to Quique Dr. Whipped gives good advice...too bad he doesn't listen to himself.)
Lola talks to Elisa who decides she can't fight this feeling anymore. Pop goes the Original Sleazel to announce Elisa has a visitor. The grin on Elisa's face says she thinks she knows who it is.
And she's WRONG! It's Flo!
Flo is going to pull the ol' "drug/drunk him and tell him he's the baby daddy trick. Joy.
I kept laughing during the episode b/c Cynderella won - Elisa did cry though no hysterical/ugly crying today.
I'm glad Nem-ho and Fina hate one another too much to join forces. But that could be a fake out and they'll help one another later.
Glad Kenia got invited to Harangue-o ™ Hollow (so true). Though she will be a thorn in Elisa's side, she'll also be giving grief to Ingrid and Paolo.
W/the fake pregnancy on the horizon, we're still waiting for Elisa to have a good day. And her father's comment just earn him a lower rung in Hades for me.
Elisa had some potential good moments laid out by the writers, but she doesn't even allow herself a little joy. She's just preprogrammed for sorrow.
The bitch list keeps growing: Carmina, Alfonsina, Florencia, Begonia, Ingrid, Kenia, and I imagine Sabrina will soon be swept into it.
I agree Karen, I think that alliance will soon grow between Alfalfa and Nem-ho. Their hatred for each other will be overshadowed by their mutual hatred for Elisa. I look forward to the day when the truth comes out about Rosendo and Estefania.
Some of my faves: Harper Valley PTA, Pop goes the bitter sleazel, She'll take the morning humping shift and he'll take the afternoon shtupping shift, and skulk pouting.
Wasn't that a scream when Fina invited Kenia to stay and directed her to Paolo's room?
Poor Damian, he means well, and he did the right thing by dumping Flor. However he's a bit clueless about the Harper Valley PTA and putting Elisa in a bad situation. And Flor, as annoying as she is, she has pretty good instincts about what is threatening her relationship. Now if only she wasn't getting a little Enrique on the side I would think she is sincere.
Yep, Fina and Nem-ho are gonna be a match made in hell.
So sorry to hear about the migraines, but good for you for powering through. We are the beneficiaries of your dedication. Thanks Sara! This was a rockin' recap no matter what you think!
Karen-True, no hysterical/ugly crying. But crying all the same. I wonder if it's possible that Nem-ho and Fina won't join forces, but will work independently. Either way, Elisa is screwed.
Kathleen- you are very right about the potential good moments. I think Elisa inherited that strong moral compass from her mother (A personality trait that Assgusto the Obtuse apparently never remembered when faced with rumors of her infidelity.)
The bitch list is pretty long, but for some reason this grove of beeches doesn't make me want to punch things like the crew over on LQNPA.
Sylvia- It was hilarious when Fina sent Kenia off to greet Paolo. I didn't pay close attention because I was taking notes, but I seem to remember that Flo had some great expressions during the "stay with us" and "Paolo's room is over there" conversations.
I'm also waiting for at least a little good to come Elisa's way. Hopefully the habanero project can be something that goes right. Boy I hope so.
Prediction: Dam Fine will not have sex with Flo, so she'll get knocked up by Whipped Jr. Notice how dark he is compared to the rest of the Whipped/Kravitz familia? He could make a baby with Dam Fine's coloring.
"Oh, and Elisa cries" and cries and cries. Can I say after yesterday's comments on whether she would shed said tears or not, I found I was cracking up every time she started instead of paying attention to why AGAIN she was blubbering. The writers really need to turn off her faucet so we can start taking this girl seriously again. I know why she's sniveling, but it's getting old.
Amazing how Dam and Gael at times can be so clueless. Say they take after their dear old dad it seems ( wink wink).
Forgive me for this...but why is Paolo still so sexy even all beat up. This actor is perfect for this role--just exudes the charm to hide a real scumbag.
Speaking of scumbag - when Gab starts yanking Highlight's chain, I do find myself sort of cheering him on. He relishes driving her nuts so well.
And now I will admit my "I'm so pithed" moment from last night--we have a fake pregnancy coming? Really? I swear to heavens this has to be in Altair's contract because it seems to be the only plot she is always stuck in. This poor girl needs to get a new agent and a new role.
Oh, and Padre better fess up soon or Kenia (bleh) spills the beans to Gael.
You couldn't post a bad recap if you tried! As always a hilarious recap--so witty!!
I'm still sticking w my crazy theory that Dam and Kenia are brother-sister. They look alike and last night there was definitely a moment when they bumped into each other.
Cinderella--lol "Dam Fine"
Daisynjay--ITA about Altair!!! Mi Pecado: faked pregnancy, Llena de Amor: faked pregnancy, Abismo: what appears to be....a faked pregnancy!!!
If Fina only knew the object of all her bitterness and hatred is the person she's about to team up with!!!
Thanks again, Sara!
Looks like Kenia will pee in cup for Flor to get a positive pregnancy test. Clever girls.
I also laughed when Kenia got such easy access into the Arango home and Paolo's room to harrass him. Ha!
Altair's character's pregnancies are not always fake: In Mi Pecado she was pregnant, lost the baby by flinging herself down the stairs and blamed the heroine for it (a gutsy and crazy move); in En Nombre de Amor, she was impregnanted by her lover and passed it off as the galan's; same in Llena de Amor... It's always a little different each time, but she does always USE pregnancy (fake or real) to try to hang on to the galan. I hope Damian doesn't fall for it, but if she does a test and gets a positive result (via Kenia), it will definitely give Damian pause in his Elisa plans.
I think Padre is right that Elisa isn't strong enough to stand up to all the drama their relationship would cause right now. I think she needs more to build her confidence and her independence by getting her business up and running. But there are SO many people plotting against her right now, that I don't know how the poor girl is going to make it. I'm not even sure why a bank would have faith enough to invest in her business, and she can't get anything going without that money.
I'll check in after reading the whole thing. Thanks so much!
R la O
you were on a roll woman!
can't decide which one of these i like best... haven't even finished reading the recap but have to run to a meeting.. be back soon.
the Harper Valley PTA will have a field day with that
the Andrea Bocelli-esque theme plays
Gab slimes into his squeaky chair
Lola and Carmina circle each other and discuss callers who call and hang up.
it will hurt Gael, who has always seen Dam as a rival. And while Dam may be Mr. Man,
Gael spills the habanero sauce about the Team Habanero and the Greenhouse planDam is breaking up with Flo...who flips out and pulls a master Clingwrap ™ maneuver
Anyone else also feeling oh so sorry for the poor Kenia-Paolo baby? The sweet thing will be gorgeous, but with a mother like that and a father who could care less---either there is an extra small anvil coming it's way (HATE THAT) or hopefully Kenia sees the light with someone else and that poor thing has a chance at a decent upbringing.
Kenia may be underaged but she's no newbie at scheming.
Stuff the characters learned in this episode:
Alfie learned Carmina is behind some dastardly deeds on her own niece Elisa.
Disgusto learned Elisa wants to revive the greenhouse.
Kenia learned Gael lives at the church, Elisa is the town ho and Paolo has been hiding out at Haranguo.
Florencia learned she's being kicked to the curb.
What if Kenia went into hiding and gave her baby to Florencia to pass off as Damian's?
If Damian were proposing running off with Elisa and starting fresh someplace like Mexico City where people probably wouldn't care if she was the town ho or not, I think Elisa would fight for their love but Damian clearly plans to stay in La Ermita, so no.
Do you think Disgusto will purposely try to sabotage the greenhouse? I think Lucio may try to be a co-signer at the bank.
Harper Valley PTA
Spitstorm on the horizon
toute de suite (love it when you throw in French)
Humpin in the morning, stuppin in the afternoon (yup, that's our Gabino and Carmina)
I understand Elise's fatalism but jeez, I'm also getting tired of her defeatism and sniveling. Too bad, 'cause I'm pretty sure we'll see a lot more of it.
Crackin' fine recap. Hope you feel better. Always like "condensed". Melinama is the master of that and we could all learn from her. But a pox on migraines!
I'm out of the loop on this one as I've been to busy lately.
I wish Elisa wouldn't cry as much. Her character is supposed to be strong.
Also, Altair's characters and fraudolent pregnancies, I swear it seems like it has to be part of her contract to fool the galán with that. This is also a new development for this version, for all the mistakes of Gina/Flor in the original, I actually think a fake pregnancy would have been beneath her. But it seems she is also getting her villany amplified.
I have not had the honor of meeting Our Queen Melinama yet, but I am a fan of the succinct recap. Also a fan of:
-master Clingwrap maneuver
-morning hump shift and afternoon shtumping shift
-and ESPECIALLY the spelling of Quiqui. NOW I get the K-word. I've been reading it in it's English pronunciation and wondering why we are using that awful word. I knew there was some other meaning. Glad you clarified it for me.
Vivi - The old pee in the cup trick? Not a bad plan if you are those two manipulators. Why am I craving poppyseed muffins now?
Anon 207- I agree with your speculation of the baby handover. Given telenovelaland Flo could wear Clingwrap up until the day before she fake delivers.
R la O
I'm relieved I'm not the only one who cringed at the "K-word" for Enrique. I thought I was being overly sensitive. I much prefer "Quinque"!
That may be what's Dam saying one day as he hears said male's voice canoodling with his conniving better half ( and we know he'll be stuck with Flo for a good number of episodes.)
I agree that seems that Dam and Gael got their 'cluelessness' from dear dad...
but i have to admit i too enjoy the Gabino has Carmina's number and Alfie has Carmina's number skids... with all the damage Carmina is delivering to Elisa indirectly, SOMEONE better have her number!...
speaking of appearances... they REALLY are making DZ look like Cesar Evora with that haircut and the makeup... even over the 'bumps and bruises' makeup i can see that.
i found it hysterical that when Padre Loopy saw Dam he was assumming that whoever Dam had fought with was in MUCH WORSE shape than Dam, and Dam laughed it off...
Dam and Elisa have great chemistry and I'm looking forward to the next.
Maru has Ingrid's number and of course, she had Gab's long ago. "Gab slimes into his squeaky chair" had me laughing out loud.
Karen, I keep thinking Augie has sunk to the lowest possible level, then he opens his mouth and bam! Yup, he earned "a lower rung in Hades" for me too.
The whole TooFar family is very creepy.
You have Daddy who is clinging on to his lover for dear life;
Mommy who is straddling her son giving him a massage;
Brother who is stroking Sister's hair who is laying her head on Brother's lap.
And quite frankly, I think Begoña would be jealous as a woman if Enrique had a girlfriend. I think she'd be more jealous of Enrique having a girlfriend than Edmundo having a lover.
So sorry you had migraines over the weekend. I can understand how you feel when trying to write after a migraine! Thank you for putting up the recap—valiant job!
What an epi! I am with Karen; I am still waiting for Elisa to have a good day. My snarker is starting to heat up what with all the tears and all. I can only take so much sadness, loss and stupidity before irreverent EJ begins to rear her ugly head.
We know Elisa has survival skills and can suffer and cry like an arrow-stuck saint. We know that Boyer can bring the beech to the party (a la Teresa). It is only a matter of time before those two elements inevitably collide. At least that is what I hope. Just bring a leetle more beech, Elisa, and I'll be a lot happier.
A late thank you to you, Cynderella, for your delightful recap of Friday last. I was under the weather and didn't really get a moment to comment, but that recap was your best so far. Thanks alot for the running recapper commentary and the objectification of Gabino. You made my day!
No spoilers follow; only speculation. Ah, Flo, do ya' really have to wear the fake pregnant pillow? Is Flo going to take Kenia's baby and pass it off as Damian's? Is Elisa going to suffer even more when Augusto (idiot) tells her that she is Damian's half-sister—at least in his little pea brain?
Stay tuned, amigos, this is starting to get fun.
"Elisa is still bustin' out all over..."
My favorite scene was watching Alfy invite Kenia into the bosom of her home and for good measure direct her to Paola's room as Flo squirmed. Good stuff.
My favorite lines have already been named by everyone else, but Harper Valley PTA is my fav-o for the day. :-)
I wonder if Angelique Boyer is being groomed to replace Adela Noriega in these type roles that require lots of crying. It's a stretch for Adela to be cast in a twenty-something year old character, these days. Just sayin'...
Oh, BTW, FOUR WOMEN CRYING in today's epi of El Tal. We don't realize how good we have it.
Bwahaha! Just watched El Tal and ITA that Elisa has serious crying competition from her Fresno sisters.
"I wonder if Angelique Boyer is being groomed to replace Adela Noriega in these type roles that require lots of crying. It's a stretch for Adela to be cast in a twenty-something year old character, these days. Just sayin'..."
A twenty-something year old virgin martyr. Although, who knows where Adela is hiding these days.
Oh my, four crying females? Oy.
I've only seen Adela in DVD versions of EPDA and FELS...yeah, she cries a river.
" Just think of everything slimy men say when they don't want to take responsibility for getting a woman pregnant." An ordinary person might wonder about your real-life experiences after reading this comment, but your telenovela amigos understand exactly where you are coming from!
Mother's cookies. Ewww.
Your telenovela amigos know exactly where you are coming from. Indeed.
Tony and Lucy on el tal. Double the ewww.
